A Glimpse of Negative Effects in Media Convergence (Despite All the Positive Effects It Has)

Entering the globalization era, media now becomes the high core of civilization, either to socialize, to get the information, and many more. Growing up as a millennial, I do realize that all forms of media can’t live separately as the lines between them are getting blurred day by day. 

We used to see mobile phones as a communication tool that was used to only make a phone call or to text your significant other, probably; but now, the importance of mobile phone as an example of media convergence has emerged thoroughly. Movie preview, mp3, games, video, camera, and even television remote are all those contents that are highly consumed nowadays, call it by adults, teenagers, and even children (who aren’t actually appropriate enough to consume it, anyway). 

The fast pace of this modern era keeps getting thicker each time the technology boosts up their levels. However, the mistreat of this media convergence is not a rare thing to be found in public, as I may say. As the internet connects people to grow closer and closer, all contents can be accessed without any strict gatekeeper. The use of mobile phone which becomes effective as a video or camera is now mistreated by people, especially the young adults. For example, the production of amateur soft-porn by high school students can be found everywhere, even in local or international scale. And that escalated quickly, well, thanks to the hi-tech mobile phone. 

If I discuss the core problem of this media convergence way deeper, it would be a long post to go. However, at least we can see a glimpse of its negative effects despite all the positive influences for public. Now, it is our job to anticipate this modern era with more awareness and to analyze the development or the advantages-disadvantages before it gets tricky and becomes bad viruses in local, regional, and also the global scale.
