#also intrigued by vertex as a name choice. thought it might be the name of a fox species but its? the highest point on a skull?
*slides in* hello and thank you for allowing me to infodump on my writing decisions
name was decided on bc of two factors, which were:
Lucasfilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo came up with [the species vulptex] from the Latin word for fox and the name of the fox genus, vulpes, and vertices (singular: vertex), or the corners of any polyhedron, a shape associated with crystals.
In geometry, a vertex (pl.: vertices or vertexes) is a point where two or more curves, lines, or edges meet or intersect.
and i thought that would be neat fitting :D
forgotten fox ficbit
With Palpatine's dying breath, he curses Fox to be Forgotten.
(Fox isn't really bothered.)
---
There was a personnel transfer authorization sitting in Marshal Commander Thorn's crowded inbox.
He didn't remember requesting a fourth commander. The Guard was in desperate need of one following Thire finding Palpatine's wrinkled ass dead in his office, and the ensuing shitshow about the former Chancellor being a Sith and also controlling the war from both sides. Interim Chancellor Organa was incredibly competent and parsecs better than their previous natborn overlord, but even he was being swamped by the uproar in the Senate and the peace talks with the Separatists and the doubled amount of assassination attempts and the petabytes and petabytes of datawork--
Thorn couldn't remember requesting another commander, but he also couldn't remember the last time he slept.
Commander Vertex stood calm and at the ready on the other side of Thorn's desk, all-black helmet tucked under his arm as he waited patiently for Thorn to remember how to read. His hair was stark white, and there were vine-like scars wrapped around his neck that disappeared down into his blacks. The remnants of Sith lightning, Thorn knew, now that they'd been briefed on what that kind of thing looked like.
Vertex's file was sparse, mostly redacted, and marked him as coming from the Special Operations Brigade, which Thorn could entirely believe.
"This isn't part of an investigation, is it?" he blurted, brain-to-mouth filter entirely gone after five too many cups of caf and an inadvisable number of stims over the past month. "The Guard was already cleared of suspicion involving the former Chancellor's death--"
Vertex held up a hand. Thorn's mouth snapped shut.
"It's not," Vertex said, his voice firm, reassuring. There was something about it that made Thorn relax, as if his beleaguered hindbrain knew that the other commander had everything under control.
Spec Ops troops were amazing.
"The GAR is just reallocating resources given the recent upheaval," Vertex continued. Thorn nodded along like that all made sense. "I'm here to help with anything you need."
The word 'help' triggered a sudden burst of manic hope in Thorn's chest, and he lurched forward across his desk, grabbing Vertex's free hand in both of his own. The commander didn't even blink at the sudden movement, calmly meeting Thorn's wide, desperate eyes.
"Can you--" Thorn struggled to keep from sounding like he was begging, which he definitely was. "Can you do datawork?"
Vertex's sigh was entirely exasperated, and the roll of his eyes oddly, familiarly fond.
"Yes, Thorn. I can do your datawork."

I’ve heard the “baby ludi case” come up a lot recently. I haven’t heard of this. What is it exactly?
Basically it's a really obscure piece of web promo material that was released in short "articles" written from an in-universe pov, which people typically fail to take into account when they discuss it (usually it comes up in discussions of whether or not the Jedi steal children). The articles are about a news story of the Jedi providing disaster relief (after an earthquake iirc) and finding a Force-sensitive baby in the rubble. She's presumed orphaned, renamed, and brought to the Temple - and then it comes to light that her mother was alive after all, and wants her back. Except the Jedi can't/won't give her back, because "her mind has been opened to the Force" (keeping in mind this is from 2002 promo material so how the Force works is a bit, heh, wonky.) "Ludi" is the baby's actual name.
If you've read the story, which most people haven't, you know there's BARELY more to it than that. It's a bit of in-universe drama told exactly like a sensationalized tabloid story.
So imo trying to draw worldbuilding conclusions from it is kind of badly missing the point that Hidalgo tried to make:
The "Baby Ludi" custody case appeared in several HoloNet News postings, created to promote the release of the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, the second installment of the Star Warsprequel trilogy.[1][2] In his original pitch for the HoloNet News website, author Pablo Hidalgo called the "Baby Ludi" story a trivial one that the media would latch on to in the face of the impending Separatist Crisis. He compared the fixation on the story to the real-life examples of Elián González, O. J. Simpson, and JonBenét Ramsey.[10]
(from wookieepedia, emphasis mine)
It's not so much proof that the Jedi steal children rather than a purposely ambiguous, vaguely worded, oversimplified telling of what's implied to be a very complex situation, for the sake of showing how easily people get distracted from more relevant topics and how eager the public is to have an opinion on things they aren't sufficiently informed on. The focus isn't the content of the story itself but the form.
The links to the story are on the wookieepedia page if you want:
And here's what I wrote about it a while back:
Also, it's such a trivial bit of lore that it never had any relevance to the movies/TCW. It's been quoted in a reference book in the current continuity, but for all intents and purposes it's Legends and always has been.

REBEL ROYALTY - BREHA AND BAIL ORGANA
HOLOCRON FILENAME: Breha and Bail Organa
SPECIES: Human
HOMEWORLD: Alderaan
AFFILIATION: Royal House of Alderaan; Republic; Rebel Alliance
AIM: Peace and freedom for the galaxy
STATUS REPORT: Killed with the destruction of Alderaan
In contrast to some others in the ruling elite, Breha and Bail Organa break the mold because they are equally committed to their own people and to the trials and tribulations of the wider galaxy. These deeply compassionate leaders of Alderaan provide uncommon leadership through the waning days of the Republic and the dark times of the Empire. While Breha attends to affairs on their home planet, Bail represents Alderaan in the Galactic Senate and later becomes a leading political figure in the Rebel Alliance. During the final days of the Republic, he is a frequent friend to the Jedi Knights. Bail harbors Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi after Palpatine declares all Jedi traitors, allowing the Jedi Masters to escape the purge of Order 66. The Organas also agree to adopt Leia, daughter of their deceased friend Padmé Amidala and the recently anointed Darth Vader.
During the Imperial era, Bail and Breha secretly organize many rebel cells into a unified Alliance, recruiting them with the help of agents known as “Fulcrum” or inviting potential allies to banquets at their palace. Breha is also in charge of her planet’s finances and secretly funnels money to the various rebel cells and sends aid to any planets suffering under Imperial rule. Their tireless work to organize and fund the groups that will become the Rebel Alliance is critical to their future victories. Though they are killed when the Empire destroys Alderaan, Bail and Breha’s rebellious spirit lives on in Leia. Statues are erected in their honor after their passing, but the Rebel Alliance they helped build and Leia are their lasting legacies.
“Do you think they’ll finally accept that the Empire will only be defeated through direct action?” —Breha Organa

Al óleo / Oil on Canvas (2019)
Tumblr media
Director: Pablo Lavado
Stars: Sarah Benavente, Chico García, Juan Antonio Hidalgo...
Summary: María, a young student of Fine Arts, decides to spend a weekend with Julio, her partner, in the house of her parents' town. Once there, the young woman will have to face a reality already forgotten. The solid mentality of her family means that practically nothing has changed in the life of his brother Hugo and his father, Arturo
IMDb classified this movie as a comedy. I don't know about you, but I didn't laugh that much. Apart from that one scene where the trio was coming home drunk after a night out, talking, laughing... Yeah, that was cute, but it's still not a comedy as far as I'm concerned. The character of María was a distraction to me. She had some nice remarks about feminism, but other than that nothing special about her. It's obviously not something I was looking for as I'm interested in m/m romance and a big part of the movie features her in the spotlight. Her boyfriend, though, that's more like it. One sexy hunk right there :D
As you can see from the summary, María comes home to spend a weekend with her family, but there are some quarrels between her and her father mostly because of generational differences and different mentality. I was curious to see whether or not her father would show some homosexual tendencies toward one of the other guys in the movie because there were certain parts where he was just lingering around, showering or looking at himself in the mirror and I thought that's indicative of something, but I was wrong as that didn't happen. Oops. Just my dirty mind again.
The only gay part about this movie is a hint of a forbidden/secret romance between two cousins. One of them is in a relationship with a woman and is expecting a child. There's nothing explicit about it though, apart from some hidden glances and some kissing in the pool at the very end of the movie. This whole romance aspect between them is not very highlighted so I wouldn't call this movie a romance. It's more of a slice-of-life of certain people living their lives in modern-day Spain.
I don't know what else to say about this one. It wasn't anything special. It has cute and handsome actors, nice visuals and a certain lazy summer day atmosphere. If you like that kind of movies, go for it, but for me personally it was too mild and slow-paced so it didn't leave that much of an impression.

Hii I'm new to the Fandom and I'm obsessed with your blog! I ADORE your point of view really its making me love star wars more and more, my question is do you have any recommendations on which books to read to understand more about the lore and where cannon is right now??
Hi!  I’m glad if I can help you like SW lore more and thank you for such kind words, I deeply appreciate them.  And, oh, what a tricky question that is, without meaning to be!A lot depends on which part of the SW lore you’re looking for–are you looking for technical terms or character backstory tidbits?  Lore on Force woo?  The stories that help better inform the structure of Star Wars?  Because I feel like my answers would be different for each of those! So, I’m going to do a “here’s what I think is the best places to start when getting into SW supplementary material” list:1.  THE TV SERIESIf you haven’t watched The Clone Wars and Rebels yet, those should be first on your list!  TCW is there to help give you the bigger picture of just how awful the Clone Wars were, how politics dragged everything down into the mud, and will give you a ton of feelings on established characters.  I’m currently in the middle of a rewatch and its kicking up all these feelings I had and you can really tell that this is what George Lucas’ world looks like when they have the time to explore it.  (Though, hell, even with this show, it only covers things in broad strokes, especially because it is still aimed at younger audiences, too.)And Rebels is just a really great series by itself, but it also does a fantastic job of showing you just how complicated the war against the Empire was, how hard it was to wind together these various minor factions into one bigger Rebellion, as well as it does a lot to show what it’s like for Jedi after the genocide of their people.  It also has some killer cameos and resolution to things started in TCW and moments of confrontation for all the characters. Both of those really only have minor moments of exploring the Force Woo Lore (but there’s really not one singular place that explains it, imo, it’s something you have to piece together to see the bigger picture), but they’re fantastic for echoing the narrative structure of Star Wars and its themes.2.  THE COMICSThey’re the next best stop, they are also really great stories in terms of the character arcs, as well as the next best place to get more on the themes of Star Wars.  There have been so many moments, more than anywhere else, that I have wanted to just absolutely (virtually) SCREAM, because HOLY SHIT THAT WAS A HELL OF A MOMENT or HOLY SHIT THAT UNDERSTOOD STAR WARS SO WELL or just had really amazing moments.  I would recommend starting with:- The Star Wars 2015 comic (by Jason Aaron) and read it concurrently with Darth Vader vol. 1 (by Kieron Gillen), as they’re meant to go together.- Then read Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith (by Charles Soule)- After that, in any order:  Age of the Republic comics (by Jody Houser), Obi-Wan & Anakin (by Charles Soule), Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu (by Matt Owens), and Kanan: The Last Padawan (by Greg Wiseman).- I also really enjoy the Star Wars Adventures comics from IDW, the Poe Dameron comics (by Charles Soul) are incredible and give a lot of context to the sequel trilogy and Shattered Empire does a lot in the same vein.3.  THE NOVELSNovels are trickier, because some are good for lore but aren’t necessarily stories I would recommend to new fans, others are amazing stories but don’t necessarily have a lot of lore.  So, I’m going to focus on the books that I think do the most bridge work and help you understand the bigger picture of Star Wars:- The Star Wars Battlefront II video game (okay, not a book, bear with me) does an amazing job of giving more context to how the Empire ended and how it connected to the First Order.  You can do a search on YouTube for “Battlefront 2 game movie” or similar search parameters and watch it like a movie, it’s about two hours and it’s wonderful.  Fall in love with the characters with me, understand why Jakku was important, and get some amazing cameos (and stunning planets) for the OT trio!- The Aftermath trilogy by Chuck Wendig also does a ton of showing how the Empire’s fall wasn’t instantaneous after Endor’s moon, as well as the faltering early steps of the New Republic, and a ragtag bunch who hunt down Imperial war criminals and all come to love each other AND I LOVE THEM, sobs.  I would add in the caveat that I think these work massively better as audiobooks, so check if your library has them and maybe you can check them out on-line and be prepared to give the books a little time to grow on you.- Bloodline by Claudia Gray shows Leia six years before TFA and the New Republic still faltering and how she discovers the early origins of the First Order and loses her position in the Senate and starts up the Resistance.  It’s at its best when it’s a Leia book, but it also does do a lot of groundwork for the connections between the OT and the ST!- From a Certain Point of View by various authors, is a collection of short stories, many of which are hits and many of which are misses, but the hits are amazing.  If nothing else, “Master & Apprentice” (by Claudia Gray–not to be confused with the full novel of the same title), “Time of Death” (by Cavan Scott), “There Is Another” (by Gary D. Shmidt), and “An Incident Report” (by Daniel Mallory Ortberg) are all MUST READS.  I read all of them and I’m glad I did, but if a story isn’t gripping you, feel free to skim over it for the next, they’re only connected by theme, not events.- I loved both Spark of the Resistance (by Justina Ireland) and Resistance Reborn (by Rebecca Roanhorse) as books set between TLJ and TROS, where I grew even more fond of the characters getting to have adventures together.  I also thought the Dooku: Jedi Lost audiodrama was probably the best PT era canon book to recommend, too.4.  THE GUIDEBOOKSGuidebooks are more fun when you’re already invested and just want to look up a thing or two, but there’s at least one that I think is a must-read from cover to cover:  Star Wars Propaganda: A History of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy by Pablo Hidalgo.  It doesn’t sound like it would be that interesting–a history told through art?  But it’s an absolutely stellar bird’s eye view and explanation of how things happened in the GFFA, how the Clone Wars happened, how the Republic fell, how the Empire rose, how the Rebellion fought back, how the New Republic rose, how the First Order knocked it all down again.5.  ANYTHING ELSE?I love the game Jedi: Fallen Order and I think it does an amazing job of staying true to the Jedi Order, their culture, and the themes of Star Wars.  You can do the same thing of looking for a movie-version on YouTube, it should be about four hours long to cover the majority of the game, and I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the world, it was clear they really cared about the story and the lore and making this feel like a game where you got to experience becoming a Jedi. This isn’t a list of “stories I thought were good” but ones aimed at establishing the best understanding of the bigger galaxy, as well as stories that I thought were really good for new fans!  While I put them generally in the order I would suggest them, if something’s not working for you, feel free to drop it and move on to another thing, either coming back later to the dropped one or not, because this should be fun and not boring work.HOPEFULLY THAT’S A GOOD PLACE TO GET YOU STARTED and if someone else would suggest a good Starting Place For A New Fan, feel free to chime in!

Please be prepared for posts of my random thoughts about TRoS, lol. Here’s the first 10!
1. I appreciate their dedication to Poe whump. I love that Oscar was so careful about not forgetting that he’d just had his arm blasted, his body language, the way he was so conscious of it, and then the fact they even gave him a sling when he got out of his x-wing because there’s no way it wouldn’t have been hurting like hell after being in battle.
2. The Finn/Poe/Rey hug was the most beautiful moment in all of Star Wars, full stop.
3. God bless Adam Driver and his ability to portray Kylo Ren and Ben Solo as separate but the same, so you know at the end you’re finally seeing Ben, not conflicted Kylo, and yet he is still Kylo, he still fights like Kylo, but he’s free in a way that Kylo never was.
3. On a similar note, that bit where he fires blindly straight at his opponent - just like Han! - and that bit right after Rey has transferred the saber to him while he’s standing surrounded by the knights of Ren and he does that cocky little ‘hey guys’ thing - just like Han! Love it.
4. Luke using the Force from beyond the grave. I stan one man.
5. The one thing I wanted the most from the sequels was Leia to help bring Kylo back to the light. When Carrie Fisher was tragically taken from us I figured this dream was gone forever and then somehow they STILL MANAGED TO GIVE IT TO ME.
6. I was not expecting Han. Kylo envisioned Han to help him finally make the right choice. My heart.
7. Thank you Pablo Hidalgo for fixing it so Poe’s entire backstory isn’t retconned, and making me have extreme amounts of feelings for why BB-8 spent so much time with Rey instead of Poe.
8. Yeah, so maybe the Poe/Zorii did feel weirdly obligatory but I still ship it, and the bit at the end made me laugh. I like to imagine she went off and had sex with Rey instead, lol.
9. I guess people are mad about it because it’s “not enough” but I don’t care, I ship D’acy and her lady. Kiss your girl, D’acy!
10. D-0 is so fucking adorable I will never be over it.

Happy Star Wars Month!
Happy Star Wars Month! Compiled here is a chronology of what the Kylux fandom has been through so far. This is by no means complete, and is specifically tailored for events in the USA, so it’s being provided as an open source document to share and distribute because each fan’s experience is different. We should all be so proud of our accomplishments, from art to fics to comics to toys and so much more!
I want to thank everybody who helped compile this list; it was truly a group effort. The link is below, though I’ve included the entire list under the cut.

How about we all just boycott the TROS novelization. The only thing D/LF understands is $$$, so cutting into their profits is the best way to show our displeasure.
I’m seeing a lot of pain on both tumblr and twitter today, from quotes from the novelization that are particularly hurtful. I feel it too, and it feels horrible.
On a bright note, I’d like to add that Pablo Hidalgo (I wish I could find the tweet) tweeted that novelizations were only canon when they did not contradict the movie. We know what we saw on screen with the kiss, and it is *not* how the novel describes it. So the novel can be disregarded wherever it contradicts the movie.
Also, the general audience and the casual fans most likely won’t ever read the book. So the kiss remains the kiss as a very large part of the audience experienced it in the theater. And nobody who saw that kiss thought it was based on “gratitude.”
I’m so sick of getting kicked in the teeth by D/LF. I’m hoping this is the last big blow for a long while. I don’t know how much more I can take.
