Our 60th episode!

We just released our 60th full episode of Corona After Dark: A Tangled Podcast! Did Nezerdnia MEAN to send Corona a dragon egg? Tristan had a great theory about this, and I think y'all should hear it!

I rewatched Pascal's Dragon, this was an episode I did not like too much at first (as much as I like Pascal, I'm not a fan of the animal side kick episodes too much) but rewatching it I noticed how great Rapunzel is here in this episode. I loved how seeing her make decisions and take on a commanding role. Her authority is show cased really well here, and it was a joy to see how decisive and confident she is handling the conflict of the episode. I feel bad for disliking this one at first.

My favorite part of the episode is when she gets to experience real flight. 🥰

I remember when the episode was new, it really hit me hard, because this was the last push before the series ended, and Pascal having to say goodbye to the dragon (whose name I hate, so I don't feel like typing it right now) made me feel like it was the fans saying goodbye to the show.

Happy (belated) Appreciate a Dragon Day! I was so busy colouring these guys that I missed it ^^

Kazilik, just based on the description of Iskierka and her parents

Kazilik, based on one that Laurence remembers seeing at the Nile

Berghexe, based on a drawing I did 11ish years ago and the Berghexe butterfly (Chazara briseis)

Regal Copper, the pattern has no specific reference but I tried to use colours from a few butterflies: the large copper (Lycaena dispar), the fiery/golden copper (Lycaena thetis) and the ruddy copper (Lycaena rubidus)

Pascal's Blue, went with the colours I picked about a year ago

Sea Serpent, based on the dragon moray (Enchelycore pardalis)

Longwing, I just love their colours :3

Was you into RISE OF THE BRAVE TANGLED DRAGONS per chance??

I pity ANYONE who considered me a friend back in late Highschool/early college. I was OBSESSED with these guys 🫠 some of the AU's were amazing. I used to love the jokes of Hiccup and Rapunzel getting their own series/sequels and Jack and Merida getting nothing 😂

I've only really stuck with HTTYD out of all the fandoms, and I've been obsessed with it since the first movie came out when I was 13. The others all still hold a place in my heart though💖

Did you like "Pascal's Dragon?"

At the time it aired, I liked it a lot. To me, Pascal was the audience and Little Big Guy (whose name I've never liked) was the series. We were nearing the end of the road, and we all had to get ready to say goodbye soon. It was well placed/timed to really get me in the feels.

In retrospect, there are a lot of aspects I do still like about it: I have no issue with an episode focusing on Nigel's backstory, and of all the S3 callbacks in the series, some of my favorites are in this episode. Plus, Rapunzel got to fly, and I love that for her! The moment she puts her arms out and smiles, with her hair floating all about it, my heart sings. That, and her throwing her weight around, demanding the guards stand down. It's great!

But it's also a monumental disappointment, in that it was the last in a line of S3 episodes that made it look (to me) like Matthews was going to make a comeback, which he ultimately didn't. And while I don't mind Nigel backstory, I don't like that he outright defied Rapunzel, which basically counts as treason, and saw no punishment for him. It shows the kind of ruler Rapunzel is, which is good, but I don't like the idea of her letting people walk all over her. I also dislike Little Big Guy's name (as I mentioned) and his design isn't great. Plus, sharing his traits with Pascal? Random. I mean, I don't mind people making up their own lore for dragons in their own fantasy worlds, but what a strange direction to pick. Plus, Pascal really didn't need another focal episode while Lance got none.
