The Dellbridge House, seen in the exterior shots of Peregrine’s home in Ms. Fisher’s Modern. Built by Ian, Max, and Malcolm Dellbridge for their parents between 1957 and 1960. Reportedly inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Fallingwater,” the house is located in the Eaglemont suburb of Melbourne.

The Special Doctor (Rewrite)
Tumblr media
A young man stares out the window of the moving Taxi watching as the scenery goes by mindlessly although his forest green eyes that are covered with thin framed circular glasses looks beyond it while thinking about the letter that's been send to him a while ago when he had stayed at one of his usual residence, the letter rests loosely in his fingers which his hand is laying on top of his briefcase and satchel that are on his lap as his shortish dirty blond hair flows in the wind from the cracked window. Once again his eyes return to the parchment even though he has read the letter almost a hundred times although not in a habit but more then out of nervousness, he has visited many loops in his pursuit of farthing his knowledge in medical and medicine but being the new guy never gets any easier.
Dear Edward,
It's been a while since you last wrote to us, I hope you are fairing well both mentally and physically on your travels as everyone misses you dearly. They hope you could visit soon but I believe that have to be on hold for now as I have a favor to ask of you; a ymbryne that was once a student under me has written not to long ago that something terrible has happened to one of her wards. Hopefully you can forgive me for asking but could you go to her loop in Cairnholm, Wales? Please, try to help her the best of your abilities.
Love
Esmeralda Avocet
I stayed in her loop for quiet some time even more then I usually do in a loop while continuing my studies of any medical knowledge under the sun before moving on but I kept in contact with her all this time as she was like a grandmother to me, my eyes drift to the black and white photograph that's been weathered to more of a light tan with white instead. Miss Avocet stands proudly with her head held high as her wards either stand or sit on the ground near her as the photograph is taken and my small smile grows a little bit bigger at seeing the familiar faces.
Dear Edward,
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this favor of mine which I have written to her about this and will be expecting you, beware for that I have not told her of your peculiarity knowing you'll tell her about it on your own. How's been your traveling? I hope you did not have any trouble with the Wrights or Hollowgasts as I worry for you dearly every hour of the day when not seeing you for so long, I'll be waiting your letter once you have settled in her loop and hopefully this will be a place for you to finally call home as Peregrine is an excellent Ymbryne.
Love
Esmeralda Avocet
P.s
Look for the old orphanage, she will have someone waiting for you there.
By the time I got finished rereading the letters once again I see the port in the distance so I gently folded the letters and slip them back into their envelopes before putting them back into my worn lather satchel in the side pocket inside, I tilt my head to take a look up at the cloudy sky to see two faint shapes flying through the air causing a small smile to appear on my lips.
"Thank you" I give the driver a nod with a smile as I hand him the money I needed to pay for the fair and when I lean back up to step aside for the taxi to drive on which I slip up my old fashioned circular glasses up my nose before strolling to the port that's at the end of the street.
"Good morning gentlemen and sorry for interrupting your conversation but how do I get to Wales from here?" When strolling onto the docks I see a small group of four rough looking boatman talking near some crates so I stroll up to them and asked them asked them a question which one of them points me into the direction of a small rusted metal boat at the end of the, it's the smallest of the all the boats that are docked here and the oldest so I thanked them before walking to it.
"Good morning Sir! Is this boat for hire?" I called out to the old man doing some maintenance on the old rustic boat.
"Tha' it is and where you needing to go?" His voice is thick with a rough scottish accent as a short white beard covers his chin and can tell he takes pride in it with how kept up it is while standing tall with his short frame showing me he won't take any bullshit from anyone, his beer belly hovers over his belt although I can tell his packing more muscle then fat.
"Can you take me to Wales?" I questioned when he walked over to the part of the boat I'm standing by on the dock so I have to look up at him slightly.
"Vistin' or staying?"
"Staying" I answered his questioned without hesitation hoping he'll take me.
"One wa' trip, 20" He holds out a hand to me over the railing which I quickly set my case down onto the wooden dock to pull out a twenty dollar pill from my lather wallet I keep in my satchel before handing it to him, when I get low on money I take a job or two until either I can't stay any longer because of my agelessness or I have enough money saved to my liking.
"Come 'board" He gestures me to come on his boat which I quickly pick up my case and walk on aboard.
"Mak' youself comfortable, we'll be at Wales in thy hour." He gestures to the only bench the small boat has before walking into the control cab to get the boat on it's way which I sit on the metal bench that looks like it's been pulled off the street and welded to the front of the boat, so I wait patiently as the old man gets the boat start after pulling the walking plank in and pull the boat away the dock.
Ca' Ca'
I smiled to myself at hearing the two bird calls coming from on top of the control cab and had to hold my laughter when hearing the mummers of a argument.
"That doesn't sound like a raven call at all!" The plummy male voice hissed.
"So! Humans always get ravens and crow mixed up anyway! so why dose it matter what call I give!" A thickly male voice hissed back which I rolled my eyes at the two arguing like usual so I pulled the book I've been reading and continued where I left off as I wait to arrive at Wales.

Oh boy, this is about to be a blast from the past. Thanks @skarabrae-stone for the tag!
Rules: Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass this onto other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
So I only recently started writing again, meaning I've only got 2 works that are from the last decade, but honestly I'm still very fond of those older ones; they do an excellent job at being what they are.
Doing the no pressure tags above the cut because I don't know if that messes them up: @stonemaskedtaliesin, @zyrafowe-sny, and @firecoloredwater, plus anyone else who sees this and has written something! Hyping yourself up is good practice!
Columbo: Turnabout's Fair Play | 19k (Incomplete) | T | Columbo x Ace Attorney set between AA3 and AA4
Summary:
Technically speaking, Mr. Wright, this isn't my usual beat. But Detective Gumshoe - you know Dick, right? - I owed him a favor, see? And it had been a slow week, so I figured I'd look around, see if I could give the guy a hand. Real stand-up guy, he is, we could use more like him. And anyway, I know you're a real busy guy Mr. Wright, so I'll make this real quick, get out of your hair. I know you and he were real good friends, so I'm sure this is a difficult time for you. Oh, uh, just one more thing Mr. Wright. Why were the two of you such good friends again?
As I say in the dedication, this is the idea that helped me break a very, very long dry spell, so it has to take the top spot for that if nothing else. @stonemaskedtaliesin had introduced me to Ace Attorney, I had introduced them to Columbo, and at some point they went looking to see if there were any crossovers and were disappointed to find none. They come tell me this in discord and I, like a fool, say:
"Well, actually, it makes sense there aren't any. I mean, they're kind of contradictory worldviews. The whole point of Columbo is that he always gets the right guy, and the whole point of Ace Attorney is that the police never get the right guy."
Fortunately for all of us, I continued:
"I mean, for it to even work you'd need some kind of convoluted setup - maybe that would stop the AA police from just arresting someone immediately. And who would be the killer anyway? Well, ok, there's an option there, but who should they murder? Maya? That'd be mean, but that's the obvious choice. Hmm...nobody likes him, I could murder him, but how--oh."
And at that point I stopped talking because the end of this story materialized in my brain and I wanted to make sure it was a surprise. Spoiler culture may be overblown, but murder mysteries are an exception, I feel.
Anyways, if you're a fan of either series, enjoy gen fic, like seeing characters get what they deserve, or just want to see Columbo at an anime convention, this is the fic for you! From a writing standpoint, it's been really fun to experiment with a very limited POV, to try to mimic the feel of a television camera. And of course, Columbo's dialogue is a joy to write. (As you'll see later, dialogue is one of my strengths)
Song of the Peregrine [Podfic] | OG fic is 39k (Incomplete) | T | Chrom/F!Robin but honestly it's mostly gen | Kid Icarus Uprising x Fire Emblem Awakening
Summary:
There were reports of something in the skies of eastern Ylisse. Something with wings as black as pitch and eyes as red as rubies. Dark Pit has no clue where he's managed to land himself, but it turns out that Pit and Palutena don't have a monopoly on annoying. He can leave these humans anytime he wants, and he will. Soon. Any day now. If the Shepherds have it their way, that day won't come any time soon. (In which Dark Pit ends up joining the Shepherds, and the world tilts.)
The original fic is @stonemaskedtaliesin's, but I like to consider myself its honorary godparent. We've spent a lot of time worldbuilding for it, and it's so good you guys. It's going to be amazing. There are long term plans.
I started the podfic because I wanted to listen to it as I fell asleep. The audio quality is definitely shakier in the first couple chapters as I figure things out, but it's been really fun learning new skills and doing lots of fun silly voices.
...still need to finish editing chapter 5.
Anyway, blanket recommendation to go read this if you know anything about Kid Icarus (Fire Emblem is a bonus but not necessary, iit's pretty well-explained in-story) and if you like podfic, hey! You're in luck! Fun fact: this is the only Awakening podfic as of right now. Yes I'm also surprised. Maybe if I ever finish this one I'll set out to try and change that. goat milk and oats Grima would be so much fun to voice.
Warrior Cats Smoofs | 8.5k | G | Gen | Warrior Cats
Okay I'm kind of cheating here but that's going to be a theme for these last few answers. I wrote these over a decade ago with my best friend at the time. She had internet, I didn't, so we had a joint account on the Warrior Cats Wiki and the Warriors Fanfiction Wiki, which are both Fandom now I believe. I archived them to AO3 because of that, and because even years later they would occasionally get a new comment from someone who really enjoyed reading them. And, as I said, I'm still very fond of them. My handle on most of the internet still comes from these stories and that account. They are simple, silly, dialogue and stage directions only parodies, and they were a blast to write. I still remember the melody we came up with for the ending jingle. I'm pretty sure these guys (plus the playwriting class I took) are a big part of why I tend to be very dialogue-heavy. I like fun purple-prosy descriptions, but sometimes a few spoken words can convey a whole lot of actions. Show Don't Tell taken to the extreme, I guess.
I'm pretty sure The Library was our most popular one back in the day (to the point we made a sequel)! The Auction was the first (though doesn't hold up quite as well...lol they're all 15 years old anyway). I'm very fond of Christmas Caroling because all the lyrics are singable and that is my PET PEEVE IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO IT THE METER HAD BETTER BE RIGHT OR AT LEAST CLOSER THAN A CATHOLIC HYMN. Most of all though, I'm fond of all the memories these have. I don't know where Moss is now, but I hope they're doing well. It is also fun to see where I've come from over the years - like I said, upon reflection it makes sense that I tend to default to pretty dialogue-heavy.
The Palutena Trap | 4.7k (Incomplete) | T | Gen (past Palutena/Medusa | Kid Icarus Uprising
Summary:
Kid Icarus meets the Parent Trap.
That's it, that's all I've got.
Ok now this one is cheating because it's not published anywhere yet except in snippets on tumblr. This was actually conceived at almost the same time as Turnabout's Fair Play, but I'm trying to only focus at one at a time, so this one won't properly see the light of day until TFP is finished. (We're getting there! We're almost at the end of Act 2 out of 3!!) That does mean that I'm going about writing it in a very different way - there's going to be lots and lots of editing once I finally set down to publish this. Which is probably for the best - I'm sure there are bits of tfp that would be better if I wrote the whole thing and then went back to edit.
My favorite part of this story is still the normal-people jobs I've given everyone, since this is technically a modern AU. We have an investigative journalist who lives on a yacht, mob boss, butler who's retired MI6, and front woman for a punk band which is actually a front for an eco-terrorist group, for example. I talk more about this story here and here. Aside from that, my favorite thing is exploring the relationship between Dark Pit and Lady Palutena, and between Lady Palutena and Medusa.
The former gets off on the worst possible foot in canon, and it's only ever obliquely addressed, so it's a lot of fun to play with and extrapolate from. In this version, Dark Pit is a child whose mother gave up everything to do with him (and said some pretty nasty things in the court record). So that's where we stand: how do you reckon with that? What does it mean that you still want some kind of relationship, or at least answers? What is family and blood, in the end?
The latter relationship is one that's...well, I wouldn't say it's canon, but it's definitely canon-compliant. It's rather like Narumitsu, in that I look at it and go "hm. whatever is going on between those two, they're not normal about each other." This is true in canon, and if anything it's less true in The Palutena Trap, since despite the name the story is not about getting the parents back together so much as reconciling a mother and son. But the more this idea ferments in my brain the more I want to have some kind of meeting at the end. Maybe it goes badly, maybe it goes less badly, but I have this mental image in my head: Imagine the messiest divorce you've ever seen. Ugly, dragged through the papers, all kinds of legal issues, you part ways never to speak again. You hate her guts, and you can't go a month without thinking about her because she's always got Yet Another Stupid News Article coming out. You find out your kids have been playing some switcheroo on you, and when you meet her again you're coldly civil, both of you clearly holding yourselves back from starting a slugfest in the local forum, and then you see: she's still wearing your wedding ring. The one you picked out, the one you put on her finger 14 years ago. I just. IDK they're not normal about each other and the complexity and ambiguity of it compels me.
Vaguely Remembered 2nd Grade Writing Assignment | like 2 pages maybe | G | Gen | The Land Before Time
Alright this one's definitely cheating but this has already been a lot of reminiscing about the past, so here's a toast to the very first thing I ever wrote: an adventure story starring the main cast of The Land Before Time. All I remember about it is it absolutely sucked to get started but once I did it was longer than it needed to be and I used the word Petrie-ball™. Yes, including the ™. The Petrie-ball™ was how they solved the big obstacle, I think. Like I said, I don't remember much of it, but I remember how proud and happy I felt when it was done. So here's to you, long-forgotten fanfiction adventure story. Here's to the first of many, with many more to follow after.
(Also, if you want to see more of TFP, Palutena Trap, or Peregrine Podfic, you can bother me in a few hours for WIP Wednesday! If you want more OG Peregrine you have to bother @stonemaskedtaliesin instead. Actually, make sure you do that, I know they've got chapter 8 waiting in the wings and I NEED to see how that scene with Pip and Lissa plays out)

Movie adaptation of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."
Let me start off by saying that this is entirely all my opinion. I am open to others' opinions, and I hope you are open to mine. And there are going to be spoilers in this review.
I recently finished reading "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." It is first in line out of six books. I am currently reading the second book, "Hollow City."
I decided to watch the movie adaptation to compare it to the book. I like doing that because I want to see if the movie captures the true essence of the book.
I have to tell you that the "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" movie does not live up to the book at all.
I'm sorry. I did not like it at all. There were so many changes that didn't fit into the continuity of the book so far.
Like, there is no inherent leader to the hollowgasts (hollows) and wrights and there was no fight at a carnival.
And the fact that Olive and Bronwyn's ages were flipped around as well as Olive and Emma's powers were flipped.
Now I understand that movie adaptations change some things but why did there need to be a carnival fight? It was not needed.
The year of the loop changed from 1940 to 1943.
I understand why the movie adaptation did not get a sequel.
I mean, the movie was an adaptation for a book that is first in a series and needed to be dealt with as such. Like, why not end the movie on a cliffhanger to see if there was any way for sequels for the other books in the series?
As I said, I read the book and I now wish that I hadn't watched the movie and that the movie didn't need to be made.
With all that being said, I rate the movie 3/10.
I rate the book 9.5/10.
I am currently reading the rest of the books and will give a detailed review once I am done with them.
Happy reading!!

For @techmomma‘s Mythnoir AU:
Peregrin Wright was human once.  At least, his family was so lightly fae-touched that he might as well have been human.  The only indication that he had any kind of faerie blood in him was that he had the Sight, allowing him to see through most common and weak glamors and behold the non-humans wearing them for what they really were.  But in this city, the Masquerade was more of a courtesy than anything, and didn’t really impact Peregrin’s mostly human upbringing beyond making him more tolerant than usual for his non-human neighbors.
Ever since he was a child, Peregrin had a very active imagination and developed a talent for writing stories.  He also became increasingly fascinated with the macabre and occult, channeling those interests into tales of subtle horror and strange, unworldly places and events.  Where most pulp writers wrote increasingly gory and blood-soaked thrillers, Peregrin gained a following for his apparent restraint, focusing more on vivid, even whimsical, descriptions of grotesque, unsettling scenes and their psychological effect upon his characters than just gruesome for gruesomeness’s sake.
This was not just a mere stylistic choice.  As a young man, Peregrin served briefly during the War (for there’s always the increasingly but not yet so distant War in noir), albeit in an unglamorous but safer role as a rear echelon signals officer.  Safer, but not entirely, and Peregrin saw enough senseless death to last him multiple lifetimes.  Writing his brand of weird horror served as a way of processing his own fears and increasingly dark thoughts and keeping himself grounded by openly embracing the darkness and terror within him.
(As a side note, the War was largely between human nations.  The Council remained officially neutral, though individual non-humans did get involved for their own reasons, most secretly, a few not so much.)
But Peregrin didn’t emerge from the War unscathed, though not from enemy action.  It was then he was gripped by the Hunger.
As with many things in his life, there was no single, defining point when the Hunger appeared, instead growing slowly and subtly over time.  A fellow soldier with culinary talent introducing him to the virtues of rare steak.  A seeming immunity to reek of decay.  An increasingly sallow and sunken appearance, despite a growing appetite.  Lingering, unnatural thoughts when passing by the long lines of covered corpses by the field hospital.  His stories growing ever longer, more intensely detailed, and with deepening wells of horror awaiting any unsuspecting readers as a means of exercising control over his demons.
It wasn’t until he reacted to the presence of a rat in his tent by mindlessly pouncing upon it and biting the back of its neck that he realized that something had fundamentally changed about him.  But the taste of warm blood and raw flesh was unlike any meal he had experienced before.  His horror was shoved aside as he quickly consumed the poor creature, leaving nothing but a pile of snapped bones.
In the stories, this would’ve been the point where the tragic hero, realizing the monster he had become, would go irrevocably mad.  But for Peregrin, such shock and disgust barely lasted the night.  Of all of his strengths, his greatest one was his ability to get used to just about anything and approach such drastic changes with a clear head.  No one was any the wiser.
When the War finally ended and he was mustered out, Peregrin took up writing full-time, settling in a small, modest studio apartment in the non-human side of the city.  By this point, he had fully become a ghoul, unabashedly feasting upon the dead.
Contrary to stereotype, Peregrin is always clean and well-groomed, at worst smelling faintly like a musty attic.  His apartment, increasingly choked by stacks and shelves of books, is no dirtier than an old library, plagued only by dust and the occasional spiderweb in the corner.  Instead of raiding graveyards and the sewers for dead flesh, he instead eats raw chicken or beef bought from the grocery store and always with a knife and fork like a civilized being, though when he’s feeling fancy he’ll lightly season and sear his steak or buy some blackened bones.  And while his modest income from his stories only allows for a simple glamor, even without it he could pass for a human, albeit a very pale and gaunt one and only in dim light.
For the most part, Peregrin leads a quiet, unassuming life, content to write his stories and add to his growing library of esoteric and occult knowledge.  Occasionally, though, trouble finds him, whether it be ghosts from the War (figuratively speaking.  Usually), the consequences of possessing books that the Council would have a collective fit if they knew he had them, or simply from living not far enough from the rough parts of town.

Other bands?
If anyone wants to send in requests for either Pink Floyd or Trex, I’d be happy to start writing about them too

I think it's just the French version. Hugh was the only one who didn't get captured from the wrights. Also the only attack Horace did is telling the wrights where Miss Peregrine is and said it was in the drawer and he said "what drawer?" The Horace said "In you mothers knickers drawer!" Then Horse spits on him, but I don't think that's an attack but people's can correct me if wrong.
I have something to say :
I have one of the early french version of the first 3 Miss Peregrine books if that makes sense and I noticed that they made a mistake in Hollow city , they literally said that Horace attacked the wights or gypsies with "his" bees . Is it also in the english version ? Or is it just the french version ?

Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!
Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.
There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.
The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.
The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST
I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.
I apologise if I’ve accidentally spelled something wrong or used a wrong name for something, I’m not familiar with every series listed.
The matchups are listed under the read more
There may be spoilers ahead

10 Visionary Filmmakers Who Are Saving Us From Boring Movies, Part 1
10 Visionary Filmmakers Who Are Saving Us From Boring Movies, Part 1
We have hit the point of no return, ladies and gentlemen. There are approximately 300 movie sequels and reboots planned for the future. This includes Michael Bay directing Dora the Explorer and The Birds. There is also a trilogy based upon the video game Tetris in the works. But the future is not all bleak. In a world of bland commercial entertainment, ten filmmakers from across the globe use…
