I feel like "talent" makes it sounds like I burst into a sprint immediately after birth to the nearest PC and started cranking out software at 80wpm, rather than building up skills over the years (often without any particular direction) that let me do what I do today. I don't like that "talent" makes it sounds like some have it and other's don't, because that's not what it is, and I never want anyone interested and capable to think that they "don't have it."

All that said, I _do_ possess the requisite intelligence (which is not a given for everyone, granted), and I am also naturally inclined to this type of work (e.g. performing mentally challenging tasks alone is appealing to me), so there is that to consider, but the only way that anything I can do now can look effortless is only thanks to mountains of quiet, solitary effort in the past, stretching back even to childhood.

It's been everything, all of it together, and all of the things I've omitted or forgotten, that's resulted in anything that makes me look even remotely talented.

Also, one might then think: so you've arrived then, right? False!

Honestly, I don't even _feel_ particularly skilled, let alone talented. Aside from a few bright spots, like when my client has recently told me that "the app is working really, really well" or that "if you were to spend a little bit of time in a specific role for it, you could be a world class product manager", I spent most of my time feeling woefully ill-equipped for the tasks at hand, and that anything that I _do_ accomplish only comes about after more time and effort than a (*waves hands*) "better developer" would spend for the same ("or better!") outcome.

There is no destination, no hope of arrival; there is only a path, and walking it takes time.
