Meanwhile the actual humans doing actual work based on actual knowledge concluded that there wasn't cheating going on
Watching a video on speedrunning. "This guy accused this runner of cheating. He taught himself audio analysis to do so." And how did he "teach himself"? He asked ChatGPT. HUNDREDS of pages. And often realized it wasn't realiable, but still decided to trust it to make accusations
The NERVE
The obsession with AI has to fucking stop
#fuck ai#anti ai#video games#speedrunning#It's the same conversation I was hated for#Person told me they use ChatGPT to summarize stuff#I tell them it's bad at that and unreliable#''oh I know I'm checking everything afterwards''#Why use ChatGPT on the first place?#''I'm bad at summarizing''#So is ChatGPT. And you'll never learn it if you use it. And you have to do the work anyway#So why use ChatGPT?#''you wouldn't understand''#No I really don't which is why I was asking#But at that point people had ganged up on me and told the mod they were ''uncomfortable''#And told user how great it was that they found something that worked for them#When they said it didn't really#I feel like I'm going insane#People who use ai have completely different brain chemistry I think#They don't even realize#Cognitive dissonance so bad

I genuinely think it's so horrible that people are using chatGPT for anything more than coming up with titles or funny stuff and I say that cause I was researching for a science project and was having trouble understanding so I copy and pasted a sentence or two and asked chatGPT to summarize and I fact checked that, realized it was wrong but I still didn't understand, then I reworded like three times before it explained it in a way that both made sense to me and agreed with what I found when fact checking it.
also, there was some drama at my school and one person involved wrote this really long thing about how she didn't appreciate when people talked behind her back about her dating people who she didn't even know she was dating (a big part of the drama is people thinking that they were dating her and her having no idea) and someone had chatGPT summarize it and chatGPT butchered it. I wasn't going to summarize it for people but I did because if people went on the chatGPT summary they would have gotten so many wrong ideas about it
Just for funsies, my friend and I asked chatGPT to write common app essays about certain things and we used it for an example of what not to do. like the AI made very convincing childhood stories for hooks but then did every single thing we were told to avoid while writing our own essays.
what has chatGPT done to prove to people that they can rely on it??? cause from my experience, it's doing the exact opposite. ChatGPT has been uniquely horrible at anything and everything I've seen it do. You can't trust it to summarize or reword stuff without fact-checking (so what's the point), it can't write opinion pieces or personal essays because it will fall into every you shouldn't do this trap, it won't even cite quotes correctly. Like, you can't even ask this thing to find relevant quotes in a text because it will make stuff up and cite it wrong. Beyond little things that don't really matter and don't have to be correct, like titles and names, chatGPT fails horribly.
I honestly feel a bit let down. like I already knew it wasn't great, but I keep hearing my classmates talk about how useful it is for summarizing texts and stuff and like, it's so so horrible for that actually
