tarmac gets mistaken for pharma, a LOT, especially once she starts studying to be a doctor, since pharma was a big name in the medical field. she's only gotten mistaken for tarn a few times but if pharma was annoying imagine how bad tarn is. "oh sorry you reminded me of the serial killer/torturer. whoops im sure youre chill"

What if roommate Pharma starts to cause a little trouble. Serial killer troublemaker Pharma trying his best to push Ratchet towards him... by pushing others away
He may still be studying, but he's got good hands. He can already perform some of the most delicate surgeries out there and barely leave a welding scar. And he's got a good use for this skillet now
After Ratchet hooks up with a mech, Pharma will quietly track them down. Within the next 1 or 2 days, the mech will wake up with some malfunction. It's usually not much. Maybe a dead wrist joint or a twitchy wing or a miscalibrated knee or something. It's something that is annoying and will need to be fixed but like. Honestly does no harm.
Pharma's so pleased with himself. It fills him with some kind of twisted satisfaction to see those who steal Ratchet from him suffer from a little inconvenience. His favourite part about this is that it becomes a bit of a rumour. The party ambulance curse. You have a bit of fun with Ratchet and will have something on you fall apart in the next few days.
Mayhe mechs actually starts to avoid Ratchet for a little bit. At first it's just those who are a little more paranoid. But later, as the pool of mechs who are still accessible to Ratchet shrinks, even those mechs have to concede to the fact that the curse is very consistent. They always wake up faulty soon after. And, maybe after a while, they avoid Ratchet's company too
Ratchet is understandably frustrated. He doesn't believe in some stupid curse. He knows someone is up to no good here. He grumbles about this to Pharma every night and Pharma is so smug to have all that Ratchet time to himself. It doesn’t even bother him that Ratchet knows it must be the work of a surgeon. Of course his clever little Ratchet would know.
It's all good for Pharma. He gets so much of Ratchet's undivided attention. Now he hopes Ratchet will eventually run out of options for mechs to bring to his berth... and... well.... Pharma will always be right here. Waiting.
aaaah not quite a yandere Pharma, but almost... It’s so exhilirating to have Ratchet come back to the dorm every single night, fuming because he couldn’t have a date and he has no idea why... But Pharma knows. He knows why he has Ratchet all to himself now <3 It makes him feel naughty and prideful at the same time.
It would be funny if Pharma thought that perhaps Ratchet would think he was kind of romantic? Of course, if Ratchet were to find out, he would definitely NOT think that.

rant incoming bc I've been spending my downtime at work preparing my taper regime & I'm just thinking about how utterly fucking demented it is that psychiatrists are so uninformed about medication withdrawal. it's literally their JOB to keep up to date with this shit!! like I still can't believe mine recommended I cut my dose in half twice a week then drop off within a month after 15 YEARS of being on this stupid fucking SSRI & having it change my brain & body. we know SSRI wd (along w/AP wd & especially benzo wd) often is faaaaar longer lasting & more dangerous than even fucking fentanyl withdrawal & tapering too fast can literally break you, permanently. it's not just a few weeks of hell but a possibility of a lifetime of total anhedonia, pssd, & a fair chance you might just kill yourself (or even someone else) bc it can make you psychotic even if you've never had those symptoms before. how fucked up is it that mentally ill people have to just do our own research bc we can't trust the people who went to school for like 8 fucking years & get 6 figure salaries NOT to just be useful idiots for big pharma??
it's even more grotesque when you think of all the people who aren't capable of doing this type of self advocacy bc they're just too ill, or bc they're in one of the fucking maximum security prisons we call "psychiatric hospitals", most of which have not progressed whatsoever from the 60s except they've switched from ice pick lobotomies to chemical lobotomies. despite all the evidence of the unbelievable harm they're doing, mentally and physically (patients treated w/APs on average live 20 YEARS shorter than those who are not due to their effects on the body).
and people literally just do not care. mental illness is criminalized, especially if you don't have deep pockets bc god fucking forbid you're sent to a state institution/concentration camp rather than a private one. state asylums are where all possibility of a recovery goes to die. the staff are abusive sociopaths and all they do is forcibly pump you full of meds to make you compliant & physically assault you & treat you WORSE than serial killers on death row. that is not even a slight exaggeration. killers are treated better in prison than patients in these hellholes.
if you want to learn more about anti-psychiatry & why it's a necessary modern civil rights movement I suggest checking on it the websites psychrights.org & madinamerica, they have many well documented horror stories about just what goes on at these facilities & how medication is destroying people's lives.

I was wondering, how would Pharma be pressured in the Penpal au if the relationship got leak?
I can see why Tarn might be pressured to use their relationship for political optic or to act a certain way since he's an activist/influncer for the Decepticon, not to mention, his relationship with both faction leaders, but what about Pharma?
So I don't have screencaps for this at the moment, but something to bear in mind in canon (which I draw on heavily for all of my fics) is that on post-war Cybertron, it's explicitly said that neutrals hate both Autobots and Decepticons, but they hate Decepticons even more (because any Decepticon who turned traitor obviously got murdered by the DJD, so there's not much if any Decepticon representation or advocacy among neutrals). Also, it's a canonical fact that Decepticons remaining on Cybertron were literally living in slums outside of the city proper and being mostly homeless/unemployed because no one wants to hire them also getting serially murdered at one point, so... taking cues from canon, PPAU being a post-war scenario means that society is in a state where not only are the Autobots and Decepticons struggling to mend relationships with each other, there's also the neutral presence tipping things against the Decepticons.
So, with the Decepticons already being unpopular in general, and the DJD being unpopular even among Decepticons (given their role as fanatical torturer-murderers)...
And with Pharma being CMO + eventually some sort of minister of public health (aka federal/international level political position), it's easy to assume that there's a shitload of public scrutiny of all times, especially given that he's 1. following on Ratchet's term, who seems to be more or less universally loved and respected and 2. was apparently "famous for being forged" (whatever that means/is up to interpretation) even before the war happened.
So on the one hand, Pharma might be pressured to be open/proud about his relationship with Tarn and to make it a political point to remain partners with him to reinforce the reconciliation/reform movements going on (that Decepticons are capable of change + Autobots and Decepticons are capable of uniting with each other).
On the other hand (or in addition), Pharma could and would absolutely be subjected to nasty levels of public ire from people in pretty much every social group. Decepticons judging him for dating someone whose job it was to persecute them, Autobots judging him for dating a Decepticon murderer and one of Megatron's top enforcers, neutrals hating him for a mix of the previous two reasons. Plus Pharma is a doctor, which means he's already kind of held on a pedestal of "productive, noble, essential worker of society" so the planet's best doctor shacking up with the planet's best murderer would certainly cause a stir.
Maybe not a stir in the sense that it'd be horrible and unforgivable and would ruin Pharma's career. I mean, Decepticon-Autobot reintegration is literally the major political movement on the planet and it's precisely the point that Pharma and Tarn wouldn't be legally punished in any way for being together. (And if anything, Megatron and Optimus-- possibly being in a public relationship themselves-- would support Tarn/Pharma and deliberately throw their support behind them). The problem is just that socially, people aren't so quick to forgive or forget their grievances/prejudices, and there are ways to punish people beyond the reach of the law.
So, picture the sorts of things that happen in the real world to celebrities, politicians, and other famous figures who attract mass hate (even from a niche/minority of society): the harassment, stalking and cyberstalking, death threats, libel and slander, being constantly subjected to unwanted press attention, being filmed/photographed without consent, having people close to them being threatened/hurt as a way to hurt the person being Cancelled TM. Multiple things on that list can and do happen to Pharma, with the explicit intention that Pharma deserves to be punished/shamed for associating so closely with Tarn.
Plus, in Pharma's job, it figures that people he works with would have strong emotions about their boss being associated with an infamous killer, no? How would Decepticons trained to fear the DJD in every capacity feel safe, perhaps wondering if Pharma is one whisper away from telling his lover to kill someone? What would anyone, regardless of faction alignment, assume about Pharma's personal character that he's willing to not merely be coworkers with Tarn (professional torturer, sadist, murderer, fanatic) but to literally be his lover and canoodle with him? It's not fair (or perhaps it is), but Tarn can't outrun his reputation no matter how hard he works to reform, and people will project Tarn's crimes onto Pharma because Pharma committed the crime of loving Tarn. It's not like the common public knows about all the things Tarn and Pharma talked about in their pen pal letters, it's not like they would believe Pharma when he says that the Tarn he loves isn't the Tarn the public knows.
Basically, even though this is a post-war romance AU (and was originally intended to be romance-focused), I decided to lean more into the post-war elements and explore how Tarn and Pharma are such (in)famous public figures that they are essentially not allowed to love each other as just "Tarn and Pharma" (or Glitch/Damus and Pharma). They aren't quite the "arranged/political marriage" fanfic trope, but they suffer from the same publicity element where their relationship will forever be tied to some sort of political statement or social action. They can never be two regular people in a romantic relationship who can exist publicly without harassment.
It does actually become a point of contention in their relationship (before and after it's leaked) that they simultaneously want to keep their relationship private to not be shamed for it and so that their love isn't tokenized/turned into a political statement. Yet simultaneously, keeping their relationship secret only adds to the feelings of shame/fear they have; sure, they love each other and want to be together forever, but they're still hiding their relationship's existence from the public for the sake of their reputation, so does that mean their love isn't actually as strong as they want it to be? The shame is especially great on Tarn's end, because at least Pharma is respected and revered as the planet's best doctor. He's literally just an ex-enforcer who did some of the worst shit the Decepticons ever did because he followed and worshipped Megatron absolutely. He feels like he's dooming Pharma just by being near him; Pharma would have been okay if only he hadn't loved Tarn. If only Tarn had had the strength to keep their relationship to letters only, or to break up with Pharma and tell him he deserves to be with someone he can actually live a normal life with. Many issues all around

What Is SolCorp?
Tumblr media
SolCorp Pharmaceuticals was originally founded in the years following WWI by a small collective of knacked people who came together with the goal to protect knacked people everywhere from the prejudice of normal humans.
A brief history of knacked people as taught by SolCorp:
Knacked people have existed in some capacity for as long as people have, in gradually growing numbers, but they were relegated to fables for a long time. Miracle workers. Shamans. Saints. Witches. The era of witch trials taught knacked people that those who were different would always be persecuted and never accepted into human society. To survive, knacked people would need to hide. They started referring to each other as simply having a knack for certain things. “Martha next door sure has a knack for knowing what people want,” was a lot safer than, “Martha can read your mind.”
They hid for a while, but when globalization accelerated, it became harder and harder for knacks to fly under the radar. After a series of violent incidents, a group came together and established an organization dedicated to keeping their secret from getting out.
A goal that monumental was going to require a monumental network. They chose to establish a pharmaceuticals company that could both fund their pursuits and give an excuse for knacked people to gather together. And when SolCorp was unable to find and recruit enough knacked people to complete their goals, they began to grow their own in their labs.
SolCorp Pharmaceuticals has its headquarters in Los Angeles (referred to as LAHQ) as well as satellite offices across the United States and the world, including Chicago and Philadelphia, US; Manchester, UK; Kyiv, Ukraine; and Cairo, Egypt.
Sol is a working pharmaceuticals company and knacks have allowed for medical advancements that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible. This pharma front is their public face and is run by knacked SolCorp agents. The larger portion of SolCorp’s population is engaged in administering the coverup and providing for the needs of knacked people. These include teams who erase any evidence of knacks, deal with threats, provide medical care or housing, and much more.
Where do Sol agents come from?
SolCorp finds natural-born knacked people and removes them from their lives, effectively saving them from outside threats, usually with the help of telepaths to remove the memory of their existence or establish some reason for them to be missing indefinitely or dead. When old enough, they are assigned a job that suits them.
Once you work for SolCorp, you always work for SolCorp. In return, they will take care of your every need and protect you from humans.
Then there are those people who were made by SolCorp. These generated knacked people (gens) were artificially created in their lab, modified to have knacks, and grown ex-vivo. They are then raised and trained by the Terre Department to be good, upstanding Sol agents.

Lost Light 22-25
Lost Light 22
love how pissed Magnus is at Megatron lmAO he talks to Megatron like a jilted ex
I will admit, it does kinda suck that we never got the time to address that it was Terminus's fault Megatron got stuck in the functionist universe, Roddy and Magnus think Megatron ran away and Megatron thinks Roddy and Magnus abandoned him and I don't remember this ever being cleared up
damn this thing can just punch a planet to pieces, no wonder both Drift and the Grand Architect were like “we gotta do something about this thing”
aw man, that casual drop that Terminus and alternate Orion Pax are dead... lines like this make me wish we weren't forced to jump to the end so fast, we could've maybe expanded on this if we'd been given the time...
it was very likely not on purpose but it is kinda funny that Drift is the first one to get shot on not-Pharma's order lmAO especially after he “needed to see the prisoners (Ratchet).” Some part of Pharma was just like “this fuckin hand-slicing boyfriend-stealing bitch”
ADAPTUS, that's the name of the god that took over Pharma's body, I could NOT fucking remember lmAO
aww, cute that Megatron remembers the Scavengers
I also wish that we could've gotten more between Megatron and Drift, but again, we were forced to jump to the end and honestly I'm grateful we got these two panels at all
god. Still so fuckin wild that not only are the guiding hand still around, we've already fuckin met them all. I remember not taking the news that Rung is Primus very well lmfAO
Lost Light 23
this fuckin panel of everyone reacting the the reveal is so funny gdhfsjk Whirl thinks this is exactly as funny as I've been finding it throughout this reread, Tyrest is in the back quietly having a crisis, this is great
ghfd Rodimus being like “yeah yeah shut up for a second Adaptus, we're still processing the whole Rung is Primus thing”
IT WAS HIS HAT MR. KRABS, HE WAS NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!
wild that Drift's account of the Guiding Hand and the birth of Cybertron wasn't too far off, but it was Adaptus that betrayed the others and not Mortilus
also wild that literally everything about Rung has been foreshadowing for this reveal, his serial code, his coming back from the brink of death, the jokes about how forgettable he is
“Not even my beloved Ratchet will be able to...” oouUUGHGFHDFJ in a way, Pharma ended up helping us stop Adaptus... by being so gay for Ratchet that it distracted him long enough for Tyrest to kill him dead lmAO
Tumblr media
still so thankful for this
“Hey, Froid? Shut up.” lmfAO GET HIS ASS
love the squad coming up with their own plan despite “The Magnificence” telling them they have to do things exactly as they say. Hell yeah, fuck destiny, make your own destiny
So Epistemus was the one who ACTUALLY orchestrated all of this, or rather the Omega Guardians speaking through what's left of Epistemus. I'm not gonna lie, this is definitely a bit of the lore that just went in one ear and out the other, especially since Nickel just unceremoniously crushes the shit immediately after it shows its true colors and then we go do our own plan lmAO so like. Truly none of this monologue matters beyond telling us this thing is why this is happening and being a cool little bit of lore if you care about that kind of thing
Lost Light 24
god, Rung still breaks my heart, he tells Rewind and Chromedome they're lucky... he puts their hands together........
fuck I forgot about Fort Max and Red, okay NOW the whole gang's all actually here for real this time lmfAO
oughfdhj Rung deleting his patient files and reminiscing about the first time he met Skids... he loved that guy........
aaaaAAUUUGH GOD... HE GAVE EVERYTHING HE HAD TO MAKE THOSE MATRIXES........
love Drift being unable to really explain what is meant by “be a good person,” and I love everyone else chiming in with more nitpicks about how to define “a good person.” It's a good question! And there's not really a set answer! Which is why that's not really what the morality lock's truly about, it's about being at peace with yourself, and that's what makes the part where everyone manages to open their respective matrixes hit so hard. It means that, if only for that moment, they all felt okay enough about themselves to bypass the lock, tangible proof that they are indeed good enough despite everything
“Ratchet, if this is it, I...” “I know. Me too.” This is another moment that, now, is very sweet and gay, but when this first came out it still hadn't been explicitly confirmed that Drift and Ratchet were in love with each other so I was burning alive inside from wanting so badly to believe they were canonically together but not wanting to get burned lmAO not to mention how many people were insistent that they weren't gay and therefore would never believe that they were unless it was quite literally shoved right in their faces lmAO I wanted both confirmation and indisputable proof that Dratchet was real
that being said, as much as I personally wanted that proof, I'm glad Anode and Lug are the ones to get an on-screen kiss and an explicit “I love you,” the trans lesbians deserve that W
love that Ratchet is the first one to open his matrix, he really is soft at heart and that kicks my ass every time a piece of transformers media confirms it lmAO soft old man full of love... a romantic underneath it all........
love that Swerve and Misfire open their matrix together, love how excited Lug is to open hers, love that Tailgate gets to open a matrix just like how Ten drew him doing on his skateboard, love that Whirl gets to open a matrix at all
fuckgfhdajsk Roddy's speech is hitting me just as hard as it ever did. I've teared up a handful of times, but so far only two parts of this comic have made me full-on cry during this reread, Rewind's final message and this speech from Rodimus, they're both so fucking good, so filled to the brim with love I can't fuckign stand it lmfAO
as cool and dramatic as it would've been to have Megatron be able to open the matrix (for real, like how striking of an image would that have been, on par with/parallel to him standing in the Necrobot's flower field), I'm so fucking glad Rodimus got to do it instead, he deserves to feel okay about himself after how much has been stacked against him
get vaporized, idiots
“Don't forget me” I wON'T!!! I WON'T EVER FORGET YOU RUNG
Lost Light 25
still absolutely hysterical that after so many crumbs of Dratchet and begging for explicit confirmation, I finally got it on the same page that reveals that Ratchet's fucking dead lmfAO I'll take it, it's still a W because it means that all their previous interactions throughout the comic are now romantically tinged as dictated by canon so I was right all along lmAO Fandom interactions aside, I like. Still can't believe this, I had already read Chromedome and Rewind's interactions as romantic and turned out to be right about that, then Cyclonus and Tailgate's, then Drift and Ratchet's, but because I personally liked Dratchet the most and their buildup was a bit more subtle than CDRW or Cygate (though not by much if we're being honest, they just never had a big plot-relevant death scare that forced them to explicitly declare their love like the other two couples did) I didn't want to just assume they'd also be canon because it would break my heart if they weren't. But they WERE... I WAS RIGHT ABOUT ALL THE GAYS........ and more than just going “neener-neener” at the fandom, it makes me happy to be right about all of them because like. It feels good to have seen the love present between all these sets of characters and for it to be properly realized in canon instead of just remaining platonic because no gays allowed or brushed off for different cishet pairings that fit the status quo more. It's not about fitting in, it's about the love, they're misfits who are happy because they love each other dearly and they're like that on purpose and how is that not the best fucking thing ever
ugh, hate that Prowl's right about everything he's said since he showed up in this issue lmAO and even though the Knights of Cybertron turned out to be a bust, at least the crew had something good to bring back home in the form of a whole 'nother Cybertron filled with new life, we achieved something on more than just a personal level so ha ha fuck you to everyone who had no faith in us lmAO
god, everyone's going through it in the non-quantum duplicate ending, I definitely understand why this upset so many people lmAO
absolutely fucking obliterates my heart that nobody remembers Rung. I vaguely remember there being some sort of scrapped arc or dialogue or something that implied there was still a trace of Rung left and the quantum duplicate version of the crew that travels to another universe had to go find him and I cling to that idea very hard lmAO I can't stand the idea of everyone just forgetting and moving on from him forever, especially after he left that final message
“And this is my wife, Anode.” BEATS MY CHEST LIKE A GORILLA I know that the words “conjunx endura” would function just the same but. “Wife” hits different and I am about it
lmAO AWW I said earlier that Fort Max and the Scavengers were cute, I forgot that they literally do have a moment where they talk again and become friends
oh I forgot we actually get somewhat of an explanation as to how exactly Drift started getting future visions. Granted it's more of a theory but I've been paying attention this time around and it makes sense to me lmAO
“Treat him well, doc. He's a keeper.” awwWWWUUUHHHH ❤️❤️❤️ I remember a lot of people assuming there would be/wanting for there to be drama between Rodimus and Ratchet over Drift and I'm still so grateful for this panel for being like “nah fuck that” lmAO everyone involved in the Roddy/Drift/Ratchet trifecta is a good person who loves the other two and that's that on that *bangs gavel*
hjfsdk love all these moments they're reminiscing on that we didn't get to see, here you go kids, have some fanfic material
MAGNUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️WAAAGHFGSHFDJAGFDJfsdhj
god same Swerve, I'm not ready for this reread to be over, what if I just reread it again after this lmAO
absolutely wild that after all the on-screen romance between Cyclonus and Tailgate, Rodimus is the one who gets a kiss from Cyclonus lmAO don't get me wrong, this kiss is everything, it is an unbelievably powerful and sincere gesture coming from Cyclonus but it's just very funny to imagine Tailgate being like “where's MY kiss?????”
“A present from Ratty. Sorry- from Ratchet.” god... that is still such an ugly-sounding nickname lmfAO the thought/reasoning behind it is very sweet, I remember Jro saying on twitter he got it from an old children's story that he liked, but. I hear the word “ratty” and I think of a wet chinese crested dog
ohh my god I forgot that Roddy lied and said that Megatron opened the matrix when he himself couldn't... swEETHEART........ urgh and the parallel between this and when Rodimus spoke to him before the first trial...
oughfsgjd Magnus and Megatron... it's like. Honestly fucked up how sweet they are together lmAO like could you fucking imagine in any other continuity
at least CyWhirlGate is winning in the sad ending lmAO
god the fuckin one-two punch of Rodimus clearly not being happy in this universe and Whirl refusing the gift of Ratchet's hands... Good for Whirl for knowing he's not broken and I'm sorry Roddy baby you deserve better
I fully understand why a lot of people were upset by the sad version of this comic's ending, especially since we see it in so much more detail than the happy quantum duplicate ending, but like. I dunno man I like that it's left so open for this version of them. I remember it being explicitly stated that this was done on purpose as a way to hand this series off to its fandom and let them make whatever kind of continuation they want, and I really love that a lot. In fact, it's kinda got me looking at some now four-year-old notes I jotted down about some ideas for fics to write. I love that it's presented as “not quite right” to have everybody go their separate ways and to have things end “more realistically” and that even though there was only the slimmest chance of the quantum duplicate trick working, it worked because that WAS the right ending. This comic's story was always more about the journey than the destination, more about the characters and the love between them than about completing our objective, and I think this ending reflects that perfectly
For as much as fandom keeps killing my passion, art is still so fuckin good and worth making and engaging with lmAO rereading this comic was an excellent decision, I really needed this to help reignite my passion, and fuck I gotta make something again lmAO

silly goofy post war victory au where everyone is alright. the war ends when victory and vos (hes the same age as victory in victory au) are little kids. victory is raised by a megatron and optimus working on their issues and slowly falling back in love as they coparent their accidental allspark baby. tarn accepts the end of the war with extreme difficulty and has to learn how to untangle his own identity and sense of self from a dead cause, all while raising vos. tarn and pharma meet organically and then... bam, tarmac!
everything is alright here. although megatron and optimus are slightly mortified that victory's bf is a serial killers child.

On the could be/could get away with being a serial killer political compass Shinobu is absolutely up there in the could be/could get away with it corner with Douma of all people
Oh absolutely. im turning her around in my head like a disco ball. Like in my head, Douma is a master manipulator that can easily create a cult atmosphere where even if it's extremely obvious he killed someone, he could just say "whoops, looks like he had a heart attack and also is missing all his skin for some reason", and everyone would simply bury the body for him. Shinobu, on the other hand, would devote a fair amount of energy to seeming normal, but, also have a lot of fun turning crime scenes into these crazy mysteries where her poisons have all sorts of bizarre effects (rashes, foaming at the mouth, truth serum, delayed effect, hallucinations) but are totally untraceable. So even as fellow serial killers, she would look down on douma for being so careless about the aftermath, as it would really only take one successful whistleblower to discover everything.
Also, in kimetsu gakuen, its confirmed that shinobu is in the pharmaceutical research club, so im imagining that gotouge saw her probably as a doctor that creates life saving drugs for people in need, but...
The pharmaceuticals industry is full of the absolute shittiest people alive. Researchers prey on poor, incarcerated, and disabled people to do clinical drug trials, and often falsify their results, with disastrous consequences (see: the mmr vaccines cause autism study that plagues us today). Patent owners for life saving medications can jack up the price at will, signing death warrants purely out of greed. Even the dealings between pharmaceutical sales reps and doctors they want to prescribe the drugs are shady, with under the table deals being struck to get the commission money of making a sale, or so doctors can sell free samples of medication to patients for insurance fraud purposes.
What I'm saying is, i have like thirty percent of a fic that is half serial killer femme fatale shinobu poisoning powerful people for revenge, and half an amateur journalism piece on white collar crime in Big Pharma.

I finally finished pain hustlers, and I think it was you who said it? But it needed way more Pete and a lot less Liza. Like I finished that movie and then sat there, hoping they would give me more Pete. Like I feel like for as long as the movie was we are missing so much about Pete, and I don’t even remember what I learned about Liza. Is it just me?
I think part of that is Chris’ charisma. Your eye gravitates towards him on screen. But I just wanted more from the characters. The script was all over the place, and the direction/editing was very flashy, but there was no heart. And when you’re talking about a movie involving big pharma and corruption in drug reps, you need heart.
I look at it from the point of true crime podcasts. What makes a good one? The ones that dive into the serial killers background. How did they grow up? Was there always signs? Was this the misfortune of nature versus nurture? It’s not for people to feel sorry for them, but to show that they are human. These characters were missing that human element. And they were bouncing from character to story, and it was just choppy. Maybe it was better suited for a limited series, say four episodes. I don’t know. But Pete was the more enduring character, and Liza for all the background we got…I just didn’t care 🫣 that’s awful I know. She was completely complicit on this scam. She knew what she was doing and kept doing it.

it's been a rough few days to be in healthcare in England
I know it's made international news in some places, but for those unaware, a serial killer nurse just got busted for killing several infant patients after a ton of fuckery impeded the initial investigation
I'm not linking to any news articles about it because it's all anyone can talk about and we're all so fucking depressed about it
naturally it's a scandal and everyone's morale is in the shitter regardless of whatever anyone's role might be, clinical, non-clinical, or otherwise
it's not the first time something horrific like this has happened; Stafford Hospital, Wrightington Hospital, the Bristol heart scandal, the Alder Hey organs scandal, and a whole fuckload more
but still, understandably, everyone is feeling pretty horrendously bad over this current situation
just makes me wonder what Ratchet's initial reaction was to finding out just how many medics had sided with the Decepticons-- in four million years of war, plenty of moral injury to go around, many crimes committed, and much to think about
in at least one continuity (IDW 1) Ratchet very nearly joined the Decepticons himself, and he watched Pharma's decline from excellent, honourable Autobot medic to becoming a T-cog stealing, patient killing, staff endangering maniac (which I've talked about at length previously) -- the distress of which is painfully relevant at the moment, really
or what about finding out how many medics never picked a side and went neutral, fleeing to safe havens like Crystal City for as long as they could to avoid the war-- understandable, but also prevents them from treating any war wounded on either side and effectively removes them from alleviating strain on wartime medical staff, resulting in overall greater numbers of fatalities and poor outcomes
(not to mention additional wear and tear on staff; if some of these neutral medics had been around to assist Ratchet, would he have aged and worn out so severely?)
IDK this probably sounds fucked up to even talk about right now given the seriousness of the current IRL case, but fiction is how a lot of people deal with bad shit and I'm not an exception to that-- hopefully it doesn't come across as being in poor taste
I'm taking tomorrow off work, thank god, so hopefully I'll be able to take a break and finally get around to answering some things in my inbox-- thank you to everyone who's sent me messages especially about Cybertronian medicine because I love thinking about that and I really need stuff to keep my mind off this horrible IRL case at the moment <3
