The Middle Eastern Jewel beetle, Steraspis squamosa
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This beetle is a member of Buprestidae, the wood boring jewel beetles. It's range includes Egypt, Sudan, Senegal, the Levant, the Maghreb, and Turkey.
This species of beetle bores holes into the tamarisk tree for it's larvae, who emerge as adult beetles. Since some versions of Osiris's death mention that Set imprisoned his body in a tamarisk tree, the beetles were like identified with Osiris. I think the green color probably added to that association as well. They show up as jewelry, and notably as decorations on the bed canopy of Queen Hetepheres, who was the owner of those lovely silver bangles with butterflies that you may have seen. They appear on a few objects from Tutankhamun's tomb as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Versions of the beetle sometimes were made of gold and used in jewelry, such as the bottom row of beads on this broadcollar. I'd actually seen this one before, and assumed these beads were lotus buds.
Tumblr media
Amulets carved of stone such as calcite, or molded from faience, have also been found, as have mummified jewel beetles. Their elytra (wing casings) have also been found crushed up and used as a pigment.
Tumblr media
Also here's here's necklace made by the Karo tribe of the Omo Valley in Ethiopia using the wing casings of Steraspis speciosa. A similar necklace of Steraspis squamosa casings was found in a pre-dynastic tomb in Armant.

Microneedling Side Effects on Darker Skin Tones and Hyperpigmentation
For individuals with darker skin tones, every new skincare treatment comes with hesitation—and often, a long history of being underserved or misinformed. Microneedling promises glowing, even-toned skin, but if you have melanin-rich skin, you’ve probably asked: Will it really help? Or will it leave me with even more hyperpigmentation? In 2025, the conversation around microneedling for darker skin has evolved, but the emotional weight behind that question still matters. This isn’t just about improving skin—it’s about rebuilding trust in a treatment space that hasn’t always been inclusive.
Why Skin Tone Matters in Microneedling
Melanin-rich skin (Fitzpatrick types IV–VI) reacts differently to trauma. Even minor inflammation can trigger an overproduction of pigment, leading to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Since microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries, the concern is valid. Without proper technique, equipment, and aftercare, this treatment can unintentionally darken patches of skin or trigger uneven tone—especially in those with a history of pigment instability.
In 2025, new technologies, protocols, and provider education are changing this. Microneedling is not only safer but more effective for darker skin—when done right.
Science Behind Pigment Reactions
Hyperpigmentation occurs when melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) respond to skin trauma by sending melanin to the injury site. In lighter skin tones, this often fades quickly. In darker skin, it lingers—and can become darker than the surrounding skin if not treated.
Microneedling, when properly performed, creates vertical microchannels rather than tears, which significantly lowers trauma levels. Devices with adjustable depths allow practitioners to avoid overtreatment, especially in sensitive areas like the cheeks or jawline. Pairing microneedling with anti-inflammatory or pigment-regulating serums can also reduce risk.
Best Practices for Darker Skin in 2025
AI-Powered Pre-Treatment Scans Before starting, clinics use high-resolution AI imaging to assess melanin density, inflammation markers, and sensitivity. This helps develop personalized protocols with safer needle depths and fewer passes.
Depth Control and Pressure Sensitivity Darker skin types are best treated with needles ranging from 0.3 to 1.0 mm. Devices in 2025 are equipped with servo motors that ensure precision and consistency—avoiding manual overpressure that leads to pigment trauma.
Post-Treatment Cooling and Barrier Repair Post-procedure serums often include tranexamic acid, niacinamide, or peptides to calm inflammation and regulate pigment response. Clinics avoid any actives like acids or retinoids during the first 72 hours to protect melanocyte behavior.
Session Spacing Longer intervals between sessions—every 6 weeks instead of 4—give melanin-rich skin adequate time to heal and rebalance pigment distribution.
Emotional Sensitivity and Representation
A growing number of clinics now emphasize trauma-informed care, especially for BIPOC clients. This includes longer consults, inclusive before-and-after photos, and transparent conversations about pigment risk. Because microneedling isn’t just a medical procedure—it’s a trust exercise.
The shame that sometimes accompanies pigmentation struggles—especially for clients who’ve tried everything without results—deserves acknowledgement. Providers trained in cultural competence help bridge that emotional gap, making the journey feel safe and empowering.
What to Expect in a 2025 Appointment
Initial Imaging: AI skin scans assess pigment concentration, vascular sensitivity, and healing history. Customized Plan: Providers map out a zone-based strategy, adjusting depth and serum choice for each area. Treatment Session: A gentle, controlled microneedling session using low-to-mid depth settings ensures minimal trauma. Recovery Guidance: You’ll receive a customized aftercare protocol designed to support melanocyte stability and reduce PIH risk. Progress Tracking: Clinics offer monthly check-ins with photos to monitor pigmentation changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is microneedling safe for dark skin in 2025? Yes—when performed with adjustable-depth, high-precision devices and pigment-safe serums. It’s safer now than ever before.
Can microneedling fix hyperpigmentation? It can help fade old pigment and even skin tone, especially when combined with brightening serums. But improper technique can worsen PIH, so professional care is essential.
How many sessions are needed for visible results? Most clients see tone improvement after 3–4 sessions, spaced 5–6 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions may be needed based on skin condition and goals.
What should I avoid after treatment? Sun exposure, exfoliants, and harsh actives should be avoided for at least 5 days post-treatment. Always follow your provider’s specific plan.
Conclusion
Microneedling in 2025 is no longer a high-risk treatment for darker skin—it’s a refined, evidence-based option that empowers melanin-rich clients with safety and results. When personalized and delivered with care, this treatment can restore not only your complexion, but your confidence. And in a world that hasn’t always made space for your skin, that kind of progress means everything.

type of acids sheet
Salicylic Acid – Best for oily and acne-prone skin. It penetrates deep into the pores, unclogs blackheads and whiteheads, controls excess oil, and prevents breakouts.
Glycolic Acid – Ideal for normal to oily skin. It exfoliates the top layer, brightens the skin, improves texture, and reduces fine lines and hyperpigmentation.
Lactic Acid – Suitable for dry and sensitive skin. It gently exfoliates while providing hydration, making it great for dullness and rough texture without irritation.
Mandelic Acid – Best for sensitive and acne-prone skin. It helps with uneven skin tone, reduces breakouts, and provides mild exfoliation without irritation.
Azelaic Acid – Works for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It reduces redness, fades hyperpigmentation, treats acne, and calms rosacea.
Kojic Acid – Best for hyperpigmented and sun-damaged skin. It helps lighten dark spots, melasma, and discoloration caused by acne scars or sun exposure.
Tranexamic Acid – Ideal for all skin types struggling with stubborn pigmentation. It effectively reduces melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and sunspots.
Hyaluronic Acid – Suitable for all skin types, especially dry and dehydrated skin. It deeply hydrates, plumps fine lines, and retains moisture for a youthful look.
Polyglutamic Acid – Great for dry and dehydrated skin. It locks in moisture, provides long-lasting hydration, and enhances the skin’s elasticity.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) – Best for dull, uneven, and aging skin. It brightens, reduces pigmentation, fights free radicals, and boosts collagen production.

How to choose the right skincare acid for ur skin type
Oily & Acne-Prone Skin
Salicylic Acid (BHA): Penetrates deep into pores to remove excess oil and prevent breakouts.
Azelaic Acid: Reduces acne, fades dark spots, and calms redness.
Succinic Acid: A gentle anti-inflammatory that helps control breakouts.
Dry & Dehydrated Skin
Lactic Acid (AHA): Exfoliates while hydrating the skin.
Hyaluronic Acid: Retains moisture and plumps the skin.
Mandelic Acid: A mild exfoliant that improves texture without drying.
Combination Skin
Glycolic Acid (AHA): Brightens skin and smooths texture.
Salicylic Acid (BHA) (my bff🦅) : Controls oil production in the T-zone.
Hyaluronic Acid: Hydrates dry areas while balancing oil.
Sensitive Skin
Mandelic Acid: A gentle AHA that exfoliates with minimal irritation.
Azelaic Acid: Soothes inflammation and reduces redness.
PHA (Polyhydroxy Acids): Provides mild exfoliation while boosting hydration.
Hyperpigmentation & Dark Spots
Kojic Acid: Brightens skin and reduces discoloration.
Tranexamic Acid: Fades stubborn dark spots and melasma.
Glycolic Acid (AHA): Speeds up cell turnover for an even skin tone.
Aging & Wrinkles
Glycolic Acid (AHA): Stimulates collagen production and smooths fine lines.
Ferulic Acid: Enhances antioxidant protection and stabilizes vitamin C.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C): Brightens skin and fights free radical damage.
Common Mistakes When Using Skincare Acids
Using skincare acids can transform your skin, but when used incorrectly, they can cause irritation, sensitivity, or even worsen skin concerns. Here are some common mistakes to avoid:
1. Over-Exfoliating
Many people think using glycolic or salicylic acid daily will give them faster results, but excessive exfoliation weakens the skin barrier. This can lead to redness, peeling, breakouts, and sensitivity. (especially for oily skin)
Solution: Use exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs) 2-3 times per week and always listen to your skin. If it feels irritated, take a break pleaaase
2. Skipping Sunscreen
Acids like glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Without SPF, you risk sunburn, premature aging, and even worsening of dark spots.
Solution: Always use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily when using serums with those acids.
3. Mixing the Wrong Acids
Not all acids work well together. Using too many active ingredients in one routine can cause irritation.
🔴 Examples of bad combinations:
Vitamin C + AHAs/BHAs → Can cause irritation and weaken Vitamin C’s effectiveness.
Retinol + AHAs/BHAs → Too harsh on the skin, leading to peeling and sensitivity. (by experience 💁🏻‍♀️)
Niacinamide + Vitamin C (unless properly formulated) → Can cause flushing or reduce effectiveness.
Solution: Use exfoliating acids on alternate days and simplify your routine to avoid irritation.
4. Not Hydrating Properly
Exfoliating acids remove dead skin cells but can also strip away moisture. Without proper hydration, the skin can feel tight, dry, or irritated.
Solution: After using acids, apply thick a moisturizer to maintain balance especially if the acids dry ur skin so fast

mdni college student!mark lee x gn! reader wc ꣑ৎ 505
Tumblr media
ㅤ👓 "fuck..." mark mumbled, a moan shortly following his words. your head carefully bobbing up and down across his cock, tongue skillfully running circles and lines against the veins and skin.
"...y-yn..." mark shakily whispered, his head shoved into the pages his textbook, the palms of his hands gripping the sharpened corners of the hardback cover hard enough to leave marks on his hands.
you darted your eyes up at him, gloss coating them from the gagging you had just done over his dick. your knees placed on the cold wooden floor, your thighs slightly lifting up and down as you raised your head upwards and downwards. "mmm?" you said, still around his cock, the noise you made sending vibrations down his dick.
"...shit...!" mark muttered at the vibrations, his top teeth slamming onto his bottom lip roughly, trying his hardest to stay quiet through the pleasure.
taking that as a cue that he was enjoying it, you continued to suck his dick. deciding to lift your hands up to his cock, carefully teasing his balls as you sucked on his tip, no longer able to tell the difference between pre-cum and your own saliva.
mark used the little bit of self-control he had left to pry his glasses off of his face, carefully tossing them onto the desk in front of him. he placed his hands onto his face and covered the glowing pigment of pink on his cheeks.
you felt his cock throbbing around in your mouth, signaling he was close. you quickly removed your mouth off of his dick, earning a whine from him, "in my mouth or out?" you mumbled, referring to where he wanted his semen to go. you placed your head back before he could respond.
"..in.. please" he said in-between pants, him only being able to hold onto the semen at the tip of his dick for another few seconds before it exploded in your mouth, the hot liquid filling up your mouth at a rapid rate, the liquid showing no signs of stopping. you had to swallow multiple times before you could feel the twitching come to a slow halt. you swallowed one last time before looking up at him as he removed his hands from his face.
mark's beautiful face was still panting slowly, his forehead glazed with sweat. his lips slightly parted, tempting you to stand up and slam your lips into his, so you reacted to that urge.
you quickly got up and grabbed his head with your hands, both of them lightly cupping his chin, before you slowly placed your lips on top of his, immediately sliding your tongue in, allowing it to feel all around the inside of mark's mouth. mark began to do the same with his tongue.
"..fuck.." you began to mumble between pants, "...i love you baby..." you mumbled, pulling away from the kiss momentarily to look him in the eyes.
"i love you too, yn..." he responded before you both placed your lips on top of each others.

Seasonal Facials | Best Treatments for Every Time of Year
Introduction: The Importance of Seasonal Facials
Just as our wardrobe changes with the seasons, so too should our skincare routine. Different weather conditions can affect the health and appearance of our skin, requiring adjustments in the products and treatments we use. Seasonal facials are tailored to address the specific challenges and needs that come with each time of year. From combating winter dryness to protecting against summer sun damage, there is a facial treatment for every season.
Winter Facials: Hydration and Protection
During the winter months, cold temperatures and low humidity levels can strip the skin of its natural moisture, leaving it dry, flaky, and sensitive. Windburn, chapped lips, and dry patches are common skin concerns during this time.
Best Winter Facials
Winter facials should focus on deep hydration and protection. A facial that incorporates rich moisturizers, nourishing masks, and soothing ingredients can help restore the skin’s moisture balance and protect it from the harsh elements.
Hydrating Facials: These facials use products designed to replenish moisture, restore hydration, and calm irritated skin. They may include ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides to lock in moisture and create a protective barrier.
Aloe Vera and Vitamin C Masks: Aloe vera is known for its healing properties, making it a great choice for treating dry, irritated skin. Vitamin C masks brighten the complexion and help protect against environmental stressors.
Oxygen Facials: Oxygen facials provide intense hydration and help rejuvenate dry skin by infusing it with a concentrated dose of oxygen and nutrients. This facial leaves skin looking plump, radiant, and hydrated.
Winter Facial Benefits
Restores moisture balance
Reduces redness and irritation
Soothes chapped skin
Rejuvenates and brightens dull skin
Spring Facials: Refresh and Rejuvenate
As the weather warms up, spring is the perfect time for renewal. The skin can benefit from a good exfoliation to remove the buildup of dead skin cells that may have accumulated during the winter months.
Best Spring Facials
Spring facials are focused on rejuvenating the skin, improving circulation, and addressing any damage caused by the winter elements. Facials that incorporate exfoliation and treatments designed to brighten the skin are ideal for this time of year.
Exfoliating Facials: These facials use gentle exfoliants, such as fruit enzymes or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), to slough off dead skin and reveal a fresh, glowing complexion. This is particularly beneficial after the winter months when skin may feel dull and lackluster.
Brightening Facials: With the arrival of more sunlight, spring facials often incorporate brightening treatments to help address any pigmentation caused by winter dryness or cold-weather stress. Vitamin C and licorice extracts are often used to lighten dark spots and promote a more even skin tone.
Microdermabrasion Facials: This type of facial uses a special device to exfoliate the outermost layer of skin, revealing smoother, more radiant skin beneath. It is perfect for those looking to refresh their complexion and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Spring Facial Benefits
Improves skin texture
Brightens complexion
Reduces pigmentation
Promotes fresh, rejuvenated skin
Summer Facials: Sun Protection and Oil Control
Summer brings longer days and increased exposure to the sun, which can lead to sunburn, dehydration, and increased oil production. It is crucial to focus on protecting the skin from harmful UV rays while keeping the skin balanced and hydrated.
Best Summer Facials
Summer facials should focus on oil control, sun protection, and hydration. These facials often incorporate soothing ingredients to calm irritated skin, along with treatments designed to minimize pore size and reduce shine.
Pore-Cleaning Facials: Excess oil and sweat can clog pores, leading to acne or breakouts. Pore-cleansing facials use masks, exfoliants, and steam to remove impurities and keep skin clear. Ingredients like charcoal or clay are often used for their purifying effects.
Sun Damage Repair Facials: After a season of sun exposure, a facial that incorporates antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, can help repair and protect the skin. These facials may also include ingredients like niacinamide or retinol to address sun spots and uneven pigmentation.
Cooling Facials: These facials focus on soothing sunburned or overheated skin with cooling ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile. Cooling facials help to reduce redness and inflammation caused by sun exposure.
Summer Facial Benefits
Protects skin from UV damage
Reduces oil and prevents breakouts
Soothes sunburned skin
Promotes hydration and balance
Fall Facials: Repair and Rejuvenate
Fall marks the transition from warm, humid weather to cooler, drier conditions. During this time, the skin can experience dehydration and environmental stress. Fall facials should focus on repairing and preparing the skin for the coming colder months.
Best Fall Facials
Fall facials are ideal for addressing any damage caused by summer sun exposure and preparing the skin for winter dryness. These facials often incorporate treatments that focus on replenishing moisture, reducing the appearance of pigmentation, and enhancing skin texture.
Anti-Aging Facials: As the skin starts to lose its summer glow, fall facials that focus on collagen-boosting treatments are highly beneficial. Anti-aging facials often include treatments like peptides, retinol, and antioxidants to combat fine lines and restore a youthful complexion.
Deep Hydrating Facials: With cooler air on the horizon, deep hydrating facials are perfect for replenishing moisture and keeping skin nourished. These facials often include nourishing masks and serums that infuse the skin with hydration.
Chemical Peels: Fall is an excellent time to undergo a chemical peel, as the skin is not exposed to as much sunlight. Chemical peels help to remove dead skin cells, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
Fall Facial Benefits
Repairs sun damage
Reduces pigmentation and dark spots
Improves skin texture
Boosts collagen production
Conclusion: Tailoring Facials to Your Skin’s Needs
Seasonal facials are a great way to address your skin’s specific needs throughout the year. By adjusting your facial treatments based on the weather and environmental factors, you can keep your skin balanced, healthy, and glowing no matter the season. From hydrating facials in winter to pore-cleansing treatments in the summer, there's a facial treatment that can provide your skin with the care it deserves year-round.

· · 𖦹 · ·
all you can do is stare blankly at the transponder in misty's hand, nat saying everything you feel as she yells at her.
"fuck you! fuck you! fuck you! fuck you, misty!"
misty looks desperately between you two, a pulse of utter anxiety flushing through her body as you stay completely silent while glowering at her. "i know, i just, believe me, i wish i could undo it."
the next thing you know, misty's on the ground, looking all puppy dog-ish as her mouth bleeds. it manages to break you out of your detachment from reality, and you stumble forward to put a hand on nat's shoulder as she leans over and wipes her face. she looks back at you, nodding to let you know she's alright.
"are you gonna tell everyone?" misty cries, and for a split second, you feel bad after hearing her shaky voice.
"tell me how this could get us home." nat almost sounds like she's begging, like she's praying that this could work, that misty could get all of them home.
something in your heart seizes as misty goes on to explain how the scientist had this "radio phone" and how van's been trying to fix it. the hope that left after hannah killed kodi slowly starts to reappear, and you kneel next to nat, listening intently to misty as she explains her plan.
you feel anxious on the morning of the hunt.
you already know what's supposed to happen, but instances of things going wrong play in your mind. specifically, nat picking the queen card. or you picking the queen card.
if you picked the queen card, nothing in the plan would change. if nat picks it, there's no hope. you believe in her. she can get you guys out of here.
you lick your dry lips and stare at nat, who is putting on this black pigment around her eyes. you think she sort of looks like a raccoon.
"if i pick the queen, you'd still go right?" you mumble. speaking about it just feels weird. it's been so long since a hunt occurred out here. and talking about it makes it feel even more real. "you wouldn't mess the plan up just to save me?"
"i don't wanna think about that." nat responds, because the answer is yes, she probably would fuck the plan up if you picked it, even if she desperately wants the girls to get rescued.
"van says she has it under control anyway." you try to look on the bright side, even if it means rigging the hunt against an innocent teammate. she didn't specifically say the word rigging, but you can guess what she was insinuating.
nat nods and turns to you, rolling her shoulders as she adjusts her fur coats. before you can speak, the question you've been wanting to ask on the tip of your tongue, you hear the blow of a horn.
· · 𖦹 · ·
you feel satisfaction in your soul as mari shoves shauna, and you smile lightly as nat and van rush to keep shauna from pouncing. you're with mari and some of the others, helping her back up, and all the tension comes crawling back to you when lottie starts counting again.
"you deserve everything that's coming to you!" mari tells shauna before running off.
you really hope she has a chance.
you glance at nat as everyone else looks around, wondering what to do. it's when lottie looks at them that everyone starts walking towards the table to grab their weapons. you nod at nat and pull your hood over your head, snaking the cloth around your neck to cover your mouth as you head over to grab your knife.
you start jogging into the forest, not wanting to seem suspicious if you had waited for nat. you hide behind a tree, watching all of them rushing for mari, whooping and screaming, and as nat starts running out with her spear, you follow behind.
· · 𖦹 · ·
nat drops down and frantically pulls away the snow-covered bush and twigs. you watch from behind and keep a look out, shaking your legs with anxiety as you make out the faint sounds of animalistic hollering.
"they sound close." you whisper to nat, kneeling next to her as she opens the box. "hurry."
both of you freeze when you hear a bush rustle from behind.
you glance at each other, barely moving your necks, and you look down at the radio to try and tell her, "close the fucking thing. let's get out of here."
you could almost smile at how well she knows your look as she shuts it quickly, but you're too terrified right now. she grabs the box whlie you shove the blanket back underneath the bushes and twigs, leaving it like it was almost never disturbed.
almost.
you were in a hurry, what can you say?
· · 𖦹 · ·
you swear you hear a third set of footsteps run behind you as nat and you sprint in the direction of the mountain.
you stop nat with a pull of her coat. "i think someone's following us."
she breathes heavily, trying to catch her breath. she thinks so too. whoever it is has been with you guys since she retrieved the box. she adjusts her mask and looks around, squinting for a sign of someone out there. they can't be far behind.
"we hide. wait for them to come to us." her teeth clatter as she speaks, and you step forward to grab her forearms, rubbing them up and down to try and warm her up.
"i take this one, you take that one?" you ask, nodding to the trees.
she agrees and the both of you hide.
the two of you wait for the culprit, your toes freezing and your body on the brink of shutting down. the fuck is taking them so long?! did they get bored of following you? you're just about to come out and tell nat that you should just keep going when you hear the sound of rustling, then the sound of nat pushing whoever it is against a tree.
you come out with your knife, eyes widening as nat lifts their mask to reveal hannah underneath.
"please," she begs, looking between the two of you. "i'm on your side, i swear."
you raise your knife to her throat as nat speaks. "of course you are, you're on everyone's side."
"if i didn't kill kodi, shauna was going to kill us both." hannah explains.
"that's why you're following us? for ssshauna?" nat stutters, the cold clearly taking a toll on her.
hannah gives her story about how she's trying to survive out here, the same as any one of you. it makes you realize how true it is, how all the shit you guys have done out here is just for survival, no matter how fucked up. you start to lower your knife but keep your forearm on her chest, and turn your head to look at nat.
"i think she's being honest." you say, your voice muffled slightly due to your mask. no way in hell you're taking it off. it's too cold.
nat's still shaking, both from the cold and anxiety about whether or not to trust hannah. she lets out an exasperated sigh and pushes off of her, lowering her spear. "okay. okay. what do you have in mind?"
· · 𖦹 · ·
you watch as nat and hannah exchange clothes, glimmers of hope flickering in your chest that this could work. it could. they're both similar in height, nobody could really tell so long as hannah keeps the mask on and avoids talking to anyone. which could be hard you guess. but all you need is for her to be decoy for one night.
all you need is for nat to get to the mountain safely.
"okay," nat sighs, lifting up hannah's mask over her face. she looks at you. "take her back to shelter."
you frown at her, which she misses because she bends down to pick up the box. "no. no, i wanna go with you."
she opens her mouth to shut you down, but you give her a look and continue. "it'll be dangerous alone." you can just make out nat rolling her eyes. stepping forward, you grab onto her arm and pull her in close. "what happens if you get hurt and can't call for help? hannah can do it alone, right?"
you give her a begging look.
hannah understands and nods, giving nat a smile before putting on her disguise.
"fine." nat agrees, handing you the box. "i lead then."
· · 𖦹 · ·
"look," you point up, eyes squinting in the sunlight. "up there would be a good spot to try. i think it's high enough."
nat smiles at you, panting slightly from all the walking you've had to do. "we're really fuckin' doing this."
you smile back equally as hard and lean in to kiss her lips hard, both of you chuckling because, fuck, you really are doing this.
"c'mon." you move the radio box-thing underneath your armpit and grab onto her hand. "we're almost there."
you take your time hiking up the snowy mountain, carefully placing your feet against the rocks as you climb up higher. nat goes first, and you wait a few moments just to look out for her before following behind. your heart sank to your stomach when she nearly slipped a few times, but thankfully, she fell back onto you, and you fell back onto solid ground instead of off the cliff. you had to take a few seconds to get your heart pumping again because holy fuck, that was the scariest thing you've ever experienced.
while waiting, she warmed you up with kisses to your lips and face, mumbling that you only need to walk for a few more minutes then you're there.
and then you're there.
and nat's frantically setting down the radio on the ground, you next to her, holding your breath in anticipation as she sticks the transponder in.
you let out a choked gasp when the battery-signal thing starts up, your face breaking out into a smile. "holy fuck."
"come on." nat whispers to it gently, like it'll stop working if she's any louder. the signal reaches a light green and beeps, and nat rushes forward to take out the phone. "fuck it."
you huddle closer to her, the sound of static discouraging you just a little.
"please, help... please, god, uh, send fucking help!" she yells erratically.
"we're stuck out here!" you screech into the phone as nat holds it—cradles it—and taps her fingers against it repeatedly. "we need help!"
more static and more silence.
you hold onto nat's wrist as both of you cry and scream for help for god knows how long, her whole body shaking along with yours.
then it happens.
the static crackles.
you and nat sit up in an instant, both of you speaking at the same time.
"can you hear me?"
the sound of a man saying, "hello?" over the radio makes you laugh. you don't know why. you fall back onto your ass as nat screams out, "can anyone one hear me?"
tears fall down your face as you look up at her, a wide smile on your lips.
"i can hear you." the man says.

If you’re taking requests I’d enjoy seeing some wildlife from the Arrows’ home planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An arrow ask is like treasure to me so I held off answering for months because I wanted to draw something special baha sorry anon. Same goes for every other ask but rest assured I will get to them Here's a menagerie of balloon animals who share Hanidias with the arrows. All have evolved in accordance with the planet's low gravity conditions.
More info and facts below the cut :]
BELLS A common sight on nearly every continent of Hanidias. Bells resemble jellyfish and crinoids in appearance and have a limited range of movement, only able to control their altitude by inflating and deflating their gas bladder. They are subject to wind currents and they will often be blown in to urban areas in large swathes. When aeroplankton is in abundance, 'blooms' of Bells can appear, which can consist of up to 50,000 individuals or more. These can blot out the sun and cause major blockages on skypaths. When this happens specialised teams of arrows are called in to 'vacuum' up the mass. Bells are frequently involved in collisions with vehicles travelling at high speeds.
BLANKETS
Blankets are widely considered a staple food across the globe. I've mentioned them before in this post. I know you asked for wildlife and these guys are domesticated but they're an iconic part of the landscape so I figured they deserved a spot. The largest blanket farms can be viewed from space and cover millions of hectares. In the wild, individual plankton produce an adhesive substance and cling together in thin white sheets which drift freely in the wind. The feeding tendrils of arrows and kites are specially adapted to break apart these structures for consumption.
HARPOONS
Swift and efficient hunters, harpoons are one of the most commonly feared animals among arrows. They're frequently portrayed as villainous characters in folklore and media. Harpoon populations have faced decline in the past due to poaching (their spears are highly sought after) but conservation efforts have proved successful. Males are distinguished by the extra point underneath their spears. NOMADS Desert-roaming solitary animals, nomads are a rare sight. As their name suggests, they travel for miles in search of food and water. They 'walk' by propelling themselves along the ground with their tentacles and are supported by their enlarged gas bladder. They are capable of gliding short distances.
KITES
Arrows share approximately 95% of their DNA with kites, who are considerably larger. They are characterised by their small bell-to-body ratio and relatively low contrast in pigmentation. Modern arrows appear to exhibit neotenous features with lankier proportions than their ancestors. Kites have less maneuverability to escape predators such as harpoons, instead opting for camouflage with dark colouration to blend in with the landscape below. For context most flora on Hanidias is primarily black and grey.
Kites are often seen sporting tassels on their membranes, sessile filter-feeding parasites which hitch rides on large animals. In large numbers they can weigh down the kite and cause skin irritation.

A gorgeous man walks into a dressing room
for @genderthings Eddie's Gender Week prompt "stage" Steddie | T | 1125 | genderqueer/gender non conforming Eddie | famous Eddie, hair stylist (and drag queen) Steve, first meeting, pre-relationship | Ao3
The new hair stylist walks in on Eddie applying lipstick. Kudos to him, he takes it in stride, placing his bag on the clean area in front of one of the mirrors.
"The doors were open, so I hope it's okay I just walked in," he says with a tilt of a question in his voice.
Eddie hums, focused on sharpening the edges around his lips.
"I'm the new hair stylist, Steve Harrington," the guy introduces himself. "You must be Eddie, right?"
"Ah-hah," Eddie makes an affirmative sound.
"How can I refer to you?"
"Just Eddie is okay, but if you want to keep it more professional, something like chief or captain is fine. Do not call me boss," Eddie says, moving away from the mirror to gauge the symmetry and not happy with the results so far.
"No, I mean, do you want to be addressed as a guy? Or something different."
Eddie sometimes forgets that he's in the creative field now, and a lot of other people he meets are more open to gender fuckery and general LGBT themes. They finally look at the new guy, someone they'd usually dismiss as gorgeous but straight, if not for the pearl necklace around his neck.
"I'm fine with anything, but you can call me anytime."
The silence lingers and as Steve's look sours, Eddie's lips turn up into a grin.
"What?! It's a good line!"
"Sure is," Steve rolls his eyes. "Do you need help with that?" he points to the lipstick still clutched in Eddie's hand. "I do drag on the weekends."
Eddie blanks for long enough for Steve to produce a small make up brush out of somewhere, and pry the lipstick out of his hand. He dabs the brush against the dark red pigment.
"The secret of sharp edges is using a brush," he explains softly. "It gives you better control of the lines."
Eddie can't say shit when Steve's finger gently holds his chin while he's applying the lipstick in small, precise strokes. He steps back, fixes something, and steps back again before nodding to himself.
"I thinks it's okay now."
Eddie turns to the mirror to examine their perfectly painted, symmetrical lips. They look up at Steve's reflection.
"Can you do my eyes, too?"
Steve can, and gives Eddie an impressive, bold eye make up, apologizing all the time that it's "too draggy". Eddie slaps him about it, and informs him that it's perfect.
When Corroded Coffin's actual stylist come into the dress room, they just groan at the sight of Eddie's make up and turn their anger at Steve. For a second, the thinks he's going to be fired, but then...
"Give her an updo, something messy but feminine to match the face," the person instructs. Steve only nods to that. "I'll go pick something in the wardrobe."
Steve is a little terrified, but Eddie only beams at him.
"She likes you!" he exclaims happily, gently slapping at Steve's chest.
"Uh, she didn't seem happy," Steve protests gently, reaching for his actual hair styling kit.
"Don't worry about it," Eddie waves their hand. "Chrissy is always stressed before a performance, but she likes a challenge. We've been friends forever, so I'd know."
"Okay." Steve pushes Eddie gently so he'll rest against the back of the chair, and turns him to face the mirror, then ties his tool belt around his waist. "I'll trust you on that. Now, I'll try to be gentle, but tell me if I pull too hard."
Eddie's hair is a bit of a struggle, since the initial plan was to just tease it as usual and let it be. But Steve turns out to be an expert enough to brush it out and up tying it into a high ponytail, with some strands framing his face. He even takes extra time to curl them and set them in place with hair spray.
When he takes a step back to take in his work, his eyes shine. Not only was he proud with his work, but his model was more than good looking, the make up and hairdo enhancing their features. Their eyes catch in the mirror reflection, but before any of them can say anything, Chrissy is back, carrying a handful of dark fabric.
"I got a few outfits for you to try on. Steve, could you take care of Gareth's hair?"
"On it!"
Eddie gives him a smile and a finger wave through the mirror, before Chrissy descends on them with the clothing she's picked. Steve doesn't have time to look in their direction, curling Gareth's hair and then giving each of the members a simple version of Eddie's eye to match it. The impromptu make over must have put them behind schedule, because everyone is rushing somewhere before Steve can take a proper look at the end product.
It's only after the lights dim that he's ushered by Chrissy to a booth where the rest of the staff is either taking a break or keeping an eye on their work. As part of the styling team, Steve is on the look out for any hair or wardrobe malfunctions that might need touching up during the set.
Gareth comes out first, setting a beat with his drums for the others to walk out to. They're dressed pretty much the same as usual, except for Eddie, whose jeans were swapped with a long skirt, its side slits so high the whole thigh is pretty much on display.
Steve briefly wonders what kind of underwear they're wearing for it not to be visible.
"Hello Chicago!" Eddie greets the audience through the microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen, and..." he makes a dramatic pause, eyes scanning the crowd. "Others. A gorgeous man walked into my dressing room today and did my make up." They flip their hair back and angle their face left and right. "What do we think?" The crowd goes wild and Eddie laughs. "Me too. It goes to show, for the best make up and hair tips, go to a drag queen." With another loud cheer from the crowd, Eddie sticks out their tongue playfully and starts off the first song.
They look stunning, with the strands of hair framing their painted face and the long pale legs wearing heavy leather boots. Steve feels like a fraud, because he's getting paid to make the band presentable, but really, Eddie's beauty is doing most of the work for him.
"Did Eddie just call me gorgeous?" he asks absentmindedly, slowly processing everything he's taking in.
To his right, Chrissy sighs.
"Please don't take it to HR," she says.
"What?" Steve gives her a short, surprised glance. "No. No. Unless, there's something against dating the band in my contract?"
