disability as a deterrant aside, it is Really interesting to me how many people who want to get into writing just. do not want to read. at that point you have to ask yourself do you actually want to write, or do you just have a story in your head you want to get out, because there are multiple different mediums for that. you could do black out poetry honestly

#when i started planning a story of mine i wanted to get serious about #i immediately had to sit down and add like a shit ton of books (fiction and nonfiction) i #id have to read to nail to tone and style and world im going for #reading to write feels. inevitable why try to worm your way out of it #and AGAIN. if you bring up adhd or dylsexia or whatever the fuck i will point to the FIRST PHRASE in this post #having difficulty reading ≠ not wanting to read but one can affect the other #i find it Very had to read now without aids like plugging it into speech to text or finding an audibook #or literally leaving my phone and computer in another room and locking myself in a quiet space until ive finished #in dead silence #isolating chamber-ing myself to read a book is not normal. i used to never have to do this i want meda #meds #but you GOTTA find a work around if you want to write

Modern technology in one story.

Today I bought myself a new WiFi adapter for my PC. My old one is like 18 years old, could legally drink and also was crooked from birth. Which made it impossible to screw it securely to the case.

So I'm reading a small booklet how to connect it properly (always do it, even if you think you know it). Taking out the old one. Connecting the new one. Turning on my PC. It has no idea what even "network" is.

Okay. Back to reading the booklet. It has small coquettish text "now look to the other side ;)". On the other side is the internet link to the driver download page. Which is cool. I can obviously download it. WITHOUT THE INTERNET YOU KNOW.

Turning off the PC. Connecting the old adapter. Turning on. Putting the link in the browser. 404 page not found.

Okay. I can use google. Found the site. Found the drivers page.

Clicked the link. It leads to Intel site (mistake). It redirects me to a "we are not working with russians, go fuck yourself". I JUST WANT TO DOWNLOAD FUCKING DRIVERS (please read it in the same cadence as 'i just want lunch!' from subway rant).

Okay, turning on the VPN. Downloading the drivers. Installing them. Turning off the PC. Swapping the adapters. Turning on the PC. It finally works.

Trying to screw the board to the case. The screw is bigger than the hole. I can't screw it down. Just like the old one

Curtain closes.

a lot of ppl seem shocked i used ms paint to make that last image but. it’s honestly not hard if you already only use a few layers on other programs. or if you spent most of your free time on the computer as a kid editing gen 3 pokemon sprites so using ms paint is like riding a bicycle to you . or something

"Saturdays by Twin Shadow (feat. HAIM)" is how I've mentally started every post I've made here on a Saturday for the past however many years that song's been out.

I decided I needed bath bombs so I set out to do that and only realized my error when I saw the traffic control person as soon as I turned into the mall. On the Saturday before Christmas. lol

My upstairs neighbor moved out a month ago so I no longer hear about their sex life through my ceiling. My next door neighbor moved out last week so I no longer have to wear my active noise cancelling earplugs to muffle their snoring. It’s quieter around here, but the hot water takes longer to find my tap in the morning.

I deleted a whole chapter about that computer case. You’re welcome.

Never did end up doing Christmas cards this year. I’ve got mixed feelings about that.

I want to do a bunch of dumb end of year data analysis things, but I have to pull a bunch of data to do it, and that’ll take me like a dozen minutes, and that's like a dozen minutes that I could spend not doing that thing. You see my dilemma. Stay tuned, I guess?

I’m the only one on my team not scheduled off on Monday and I think Tuesday next week (and, actually, most of the next 2 weeks). It’s easy enough to keep Teams active and my work email open while I tinker on side quests.

The checkout person at LUSH is always like “oh, are these a gift?” as I unload 9 bath bombs from my basket, as if they don't get many solo middle aged dudes stocking up on bath bombs on Saturday afternoons.

Turns out I miscounted and have 1 too many bath bombs so I’m taking a bath about it.

#that first line was going to be the whole post 🤷‍♂️#I intentionally don’t schedule these 2 weeks off so that I can provide coverage while folks spend time doing family stuff #the property management company lowered the asking rent by $150/mo on the longest-vacant units and they're still not finding any takers #that dude next door S N O R E D so freaking loud #like me wearing regular ear plugs NEXT DOOR weren't enough!!#this week i learned about sleeper computers and that generic family computers from like 25 years ago are going for $200+ on ebay #i do enjoy pulling data from web apis so maybe i'll do that next week instead of whatever i should be doing for work #unrelated: i hate when the definition of a word is a different form of the word #like indulgence is the act of indulging and indulging is the past participle of indulge and i have to look up 3 words to confirm what i kno #you're a computer just figure out what i want and tell me the answer!

So the good news is whatever safety measures are part of my computer charger worked! The bad news is it is no longer a functional charger. It’s a little too melted to work

#the person behind the yarn #time to order ANOTHER new charger #this is not the one I ordered a few weeks ago #but this is the one I had at my desk that I almost never moved #my dad says I am hard on chargers and I admit on my non-desk charges #*chargers that’s true when it comes to wear from bending the cord near where it plugs into the computer #but I feel like this one isn’t my fault #the not-off brand chargers are so expensive #but I gotta say the fact that this one did not catch on fire makes me want to get another one from the company directly #like. good safety stuff!#would be better if it didn’t melt but not catching fire is an important safety standard!
