When you say you make a living from your podcasts, do you mind sharing more details? I have a somewhat successful blog (tootallyy different subject matter haha) and have always wanted to do a podcast as well but don’t know if I could support myself with how much time would be involved. Thanks 🙏🏽🙏🏽
yeah i would always encourage someone to start a podcast esp if they have a platform with followers already to launch it out of! just keep your day job for a while to see if you're successful
some stats:
90% of podcasts don’t get past episode 3
Of the people who don't quit before 3 episodes, 90% will quit after 20 episodes
so if you make it to 21 episodes you're already in the upper echelon
however, the VAST majority of podcasts do not make money like probably 99% if not 99.9%. so keep your day job and see how it goes! lmk if you have any further questions i'm happy to help!

What Are You Doing to Take Care of Those You Love?
Last Tuesday, our team launched Season 3 of our Lagralane Spirits podcast. The theme this year is all about Bourbon. And thank God, because after doing this work, you need a damn drink! Podcasting is no joke. Everyone says, “Hey, do a podcast!”… but very few people talk about how much gosh darn work it takes to do a podcast! It is insane! One would think that you could just hook up a mic to…

Podcaster Profiles: Rich DeSisto -- A Man of Many Audio Talents
Tumblr media
Remember the 1952 movie classic Singin' In The Rain? The musical is about the transition from silent films to talking pictures in the 1920s Hollywood. A key plot point is that Lina Lamont has a difficult time adapting to talking pictures.
In the 1940s, comedian Fred Allen had arguably the most popular show on radio. Sadly, Allen was never able to make the transition to TV.
Radio personality, podcaster, teacher, podcasting coach, and producer Rich DeSisto moves seamlessly from radio to podcasting and back to radio in a frictionless transition and as an acknowledged master of audio.
In this edition of Podcaster Profiles, we'll talk to Rich and understand how he made his bones in radio but was able to transition into podcasting to such an extent that he now teaches Studio Operations, Digital Audio Editing and Podcasting at the CBS Media Center in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which is only 10 miles from Philadelphia.
Rich has decades of experience in the radio industry, being a radio personality for multiple radio stations. He currently works for Beasley Media at Magic 98.3 serving Central Jersey. Rich also works for Beasley at WMTR 1250 Morristown, NJ, serving Morris County and the surrounding area.
Listen to one of Rich's radio demos here.
Rich has also done voice-over work for over a decade. With all of these jobs, Rich understands that his voice is his most valuable instrument.
Rich, a South Jersey local, attended the Center for Broadcast Training and graduated with a Certificate in Radio and Television Broadcasting.
In Rich's audio podcasting classes, Rich stresses the importance of students developing a relationship with the microphone.
"When you study for a radio career, the microphone is all-important," Rich notes. "It's a lesson that many indie podcasters learn through trial and error, but there are exercises and routines to improve voice projection, clarity, and register."
Tumblr media
Rich teaches students to use their diaphragm when speaking into the mic, stay hydrated, practice mouth exercises, no dairy, no carbonation, and hum to open up your throat.
In his podcasting class, Rich teaches audio podcasting only.
"While video podcasts are the new shiny object," Rich notes, "Audio podcasting is still the gold standard. Why watch a video of two people talking surrounded by microphones and sound boards."
Rich focuses his podcasting coaching on helping people to leverage their podcast to grow their business.
"Podcasting can be a helpful tool for businesses to improve their brand visibility, create leads for more sales, drive clients to their business offerings, and open up new markets," Rich counsels.
If being a radio personality, podcasting teacher, and podcast coach isn't enough of a full plate, Rich is also a successful independent podcaster.
Rich's Aircheck podcast has been producing episodes since January 2019. In radio, an aircheck is a recording of a radio broadcast that is used for quality control, evaluation, and demonstration.
Tumblr media
Aircheck is a podcast about radio's personality from radio personalities. Each episode includes guests from the Radio industry including, but not limited to, Air Personalities, Program Directors, General Managers, and Owners. In addition to the shared stories, Aircheck incorporates the rewound audio from those special story moments.
Rich, along with Paul Kelly, has interviewed radio personalities such as Danny Bonaduce, Nina Blackwood, and Eddie Trunk on the show. Aircheck keeps its episode length manageable and breaks up its interviews into smaller chunks, avoiding the massive runtimes that podcasts have drifted to in the last few years. Aircheck begins its fifth season very soon.
Podcasting has blossomed from the roots planted by radio. In the earlier days of podcasting, popular radio shows were often played as podcasts with little or no editing. Many of the early podcast hosts began in radio.
A radio personality like Rich DeSisto has been able to maneuver from the past, into the present and prepared for the future through podcast coaching to leverage podcasts for business, teaching audio podcasting to students, producing his own podcast, and still performing on the radio.
Rich DeSisto is a man of many talents.

What are the Best USB audio Interfaces in 2024?
I mentioned mixers before, but there is another great way to hook up multiple microphones – and that’s with a USB audio interface. There are a ton of options depending on how many mics (and instruments) you want to hook up, but we have got the the list of Best USB Audio Interface so you can easily choose what works for you… I don’t want you to fall in paradox of choice. So, today we will talk about only 5 Best USB Audio Interfaces.
In this round up-
Audient iD4 MKII – Best USB Audio Interface for Podcasting and Voiceovers
Sterling Audio Harmony H224 – Best USB C Audio Interfaces for MIDI Capability
Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen – Best USB Interface for Beginners and Mobile Use
Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD – Best budget interface
Universal Audio Apollo Twin X QUAD HERITAGE – The Best Overall
Audient Audio Interface iD4 MKII, Class A Console Microphone Preamp (High Speed USB-C, Monitor Mix and Monitor Panning Function, 2 Headphone Outputs, Mac/PC/iOS Compatible), Black
Audient is one of those companies that doesn’t advertise as much as focusrite, universal audio, antelope, but they are at that class if not better. Being a fan of the EVO 4 and the EVO 8 by Audient, I can vouch for the quality of their preamps. However, the build quality and the interaction with iOS devices, particularly the knobs, on the EVO 4 and EVO 8, left some room for improvement. The iD4 Mark II addresses these concerns effectively.
Tumblr media
Input and Output Specifications
The iD4 Mark II by Audient features two inputs and two outputs, with a sturdy construction and USB Type-C connectivity, similar to the EVO series. It includes one mic/line input with a 48V phantom power button and a JFET instrument input. Additionally, it boasts dual headphone outputs, capable of supporting high-powered headphones requiring substantial gain. The device also provides metal gain knobs for both the mic and instrument inputs, and a monitor mix knob that allows precise adjustment of input levels from your microphone and DAW.
Main Knob and Functionality
One feature is the main knob, which performs various functions, especially if used with computers. Pressing the iD button lights it up and enables different features on a laptop or Mac. However, this functionality doesn’t extend to the iPad. The Audient iD4 MKII USB-c Audio interface also includes a convenient mute switch.
Build Quality and Preamps
In terms of convenience, build quality, and preamps, the Audient iD4 MKII USB-c Audio interface outperforms the EVO 4 and EVO 8, offering extremely low noise and distortion for excellent audio quality. After using the iD4 Mark II for several weeks, I’ve found it a compelling replacement for my EVO 4 due to its durability and simplicity, making it a worthwhile investment at $199.
Sterling Harmony H224 Audio-Interface
We’re now reviewing the Sterling Audio Harmony H224 audio interface. The Sterling Audio H224 is a 24-bit, 192kHz one of the Best USB C audio interfaces. Its metal body has a console-like desktop design that will sit nicely on your desk.
Tumblr media
Overview of Harmony H.224 Audio Interface
The Sterling Audio Harmony h224 USB Interface is a 4-input, 4-output audio interface capable of up to 192 kilohertz, which is impressive for a sample rate. You typically don’t need to run that high, it’s an option if you need it. It’s a bus-powered interface via USB-C and costs around $150.
Key Features
Full MIDI Capability and Analog Outputs
Key features include full MIDI capability in and out, and four quarter-inch analog outputs, making it possible to get into re-amping guitar tracks without using main monitor outputs. This is rare in the $150 price range.
Build Quality
The Sterling Audio Harmony h224 USB Interface has an all-metal housing, which makes it somewhat heavy but in a good way. It feels substantial and well-built, unlike lighter, cheaper interfaces. The knob and tactile functions are well-placed and feel great.
Input and Preamp Specifications
Rear and Front Panel Inputs
The H.224 has two XLR quarter-inch combo jacks on the rear panel and two quarter-inch high-Z instrument inputs on the front panel. The XLR inputs utilize Sterling’s NXS class A preamps.
Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface for Guitarists, Vocalists, Podcasters or Producers to record and playback studio quality sound
One of the greatest audio interfaces, the Focusrite Scarlett Solo, is highly regarded and has received a 4.5 rating from more than 24,000 reviews on Amazon. It is a favorite among both novice and seasoned users due to its features, build quality, sound quality, and cost.
Tumblr media
Packaging and Build Quality
In the box, you’ll find the Scarlett Solo interface, a USB C to USB A cable, and some documentation. The interface itself is housed in a sturdy, brushed metal body that adds a bit of weight but ensures durability. The front and back panels feature a glossy finish, though they attract fingerprints easily.
Inputs and Controls
On the front of the Scarlett Solo:
XLR Microphone Input: Includes 48-volt phantom power and an “Air” button. The air function can enhance recordings by adding brightness and openness.
Gain Knob with Halo Indicators: The signature Focusrite halos are useful for setting levels. Green indicates the correct volume, orange signals that the volume is slightly too high, and red indicates clipping.
High-Headroom Instrument Input: Designed for guitars, basses, or synthesizers. It includes an instrument button for switching between guitar and line-level sources, with its own gain knob and halo indicator.
Monitor Dial: A large, tactile dial for controlling the output to both the headphone and balanced TRS outputs on the back of the interface.
Direct Monitoring Button: Allows monitoring from either your DAW or the interface itself with zero latency.
Headphone Jack: A quarter-inch jack for monitoring with headphones.
On the back:
Kensington Security Lock: For securing the device.
USB-C 2.0 Port: For connecting to your computer or other devices.
Two Quarter-Inch TRS Outputs: For connecting studio monitors.
Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD Audiophile 2x4 USB Audio/MIDI Interface with MIDAS Mic Preamplifiers, 24-Bit/192kHz Resolution
My Client Rachel Initially, acquired it after purchasing the UMC404HD, expanding her setup to a second PC. Despite trying other, more expensive options, Rachel found none could compete with the simplicity of the UMC204HD. In her experience, it’s ideal for both beginners and seasoned creators.
Tumblr media
The more connections, the more control you need to maintain. She suggests checking output levels if you’re not getting the desired sound and notes that hisses typically stem from instruments or mixers set at too high a level.
Now that her son has started exploring multimedia production, Rachel plans to gift him the same interface, confident in its reliability.
Build Quality and Features of Behringer UMC204HD
The Behringer UMC204HD exceeded Rachel’s expectations in terms of size, construction, and sound quality. She had previously used a Mackie Blackjack interface, which worked flawlessly with her Mac but lacked ASIO drivers for Windows 10, prompting her switch to Behringer.
The UMC204HD offers excellent flexibility at both basic and advanced levels. On one end, you can connect a microphone and a guitar, while on the other, you can hook up an entire band’s instruments through a mixer like the Xenyx QX1222USB and input the stereo signal into your DAW.
Sound Quality and Performance of Behringer UMC204HD
Rachel had no issues setting up the UMC204HD with both Ableton Live and Reaper, praising its sound quality. She ran vocal tests with a condenser microphone, noting a neutral track with no hiss or elevated frequencies. A/B comparisons with tracks recorded on her older Mackie Blackjack showed minimal difference in audio quality.
While Rachel is overall satisfied, she did mention a slight hiss in the headphone output when using AKG K240 headphones. However, this noise was limited to the headphone amp and did not affect recorded audio.https://amzn.to/4dV0HUY
I surveyed some users on this, Many users have faced issues when purchasing the Apollo Twin X Duo thunderbolt version for their Windows computers, especially when it comes to compatibility with laptops. However, my client, James, confirms that it does work on Windows desktops, provided the system has Thunderbolt 3 or 4 support, not just USB-C.
For example, James used an Asus motherboard (PRIME Z490-A) and installed an Asus Thunderboltex 4 physical card to ensure compatibility. After configuring the BIOS properly, the Apollo Twin X worked flawlessly on James’ system. He successfully recorded in Pro Tools and produced in FL Studio. However, He noted that the device struggles in FL Studio unless switched to ASIO4ALL, with the Apollo device handling the in/out audio. Unfortunately, recording still remains a challenge in FL Studio, which is why James primarily uses Pro Tools.
In summary, the Apollo Twin X works on Windows desktops but requires Thunderbolt 3 compatibility. Users should double-check their system specifications before purchasing the device for a Windows-based setup.
Build Quality and Design of Apollo Twin X QUAD
The Apollo Twin X QUAD Heritage Edition impresses users with its solid build and sleek design. The device is described as “absolutely stunning,” with high-quality construction and a thoughtful design that functions as a heat sink. The design allows for efficient thermal management, though some users note it runs “hot, but that’s because the entire thing is designed to be used as a heat sink.”
I have discussed about these Audio Interfaces in detail in my full article on Best USB audio Interface in 2024. Click the link to Read.
In this comparison of USB audio interfaces, five standout options: the Audient iD4 MKII, the Sterling Audio Harmony H224, the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen, Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD and Universal Audio Apollo Twin X QUAD Heritage. Each device shows their unique features and benefits to cater to different user needs and preferences and claims to be the Best USB Audio Interface in the World.

Potato I’m coming into your asks with my head in my hands but I have to ask: how the HELL do you draw people kissing, you’ve gotten it down in such a ‘satisfying’ way I need to know your secrets
Tumblr media
okay this is probably going to be really incomprehensible but I am TRYING my BEST
first, we must implement the tilt method. you want your faces to be tilting in opposite directions as to make room for the kiss. the heads tend to make a heart shape if you’re normal and draw the heads completely (oops). And the lips create a zig zag type shape. the person tilting towards us (right figure) having their nose and top lip visible, and the person tilting away (left figure) has just their bottom lip and chin visible.
Tumblr media
and you can use this for two people being close, just about to kiss. although you don’t have to tilt em as far since they have more leeway, but the principle is still there
Tumblr media
you can play around with this tho, and I have a few different ways of drawing a kiss to portray different things-
Tumblr media
1 is more puckered, a light playful kiss that may not last long
2 has the mouths create an O shape, giving an air of a breathy slightly desperate kiss. it gives the impression that the kiss isn’t the focus, these two are more focused on what their hands are doing, how close they are, soaking in the feeling of being intimate ect etc.
3 is wider, closer, there could be some tongue action going on. They miss eachother and they want to smash their faces together as humanly possible
You can also use these when only one person is giving the kiss !!
Tumblr media
PHASE TWO REAL WORLD EXAMPLES because one thing that aids in a good kiss is the BODY LANGUAGE. it gives the kiss more life and feeling, the above examples even have some shoulder action to further the vibe. Anyway. Exhibit A
Tumblr media
a subtle tilt, but that works in favor of creating a more relaxed feel. their kiss is a mix between 2 n 3, wide and open, messy and passionate. they’re definitely taking their time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this one’s a body language one !! just the kiss alone has much less going for it compared to the way they’re tangled together. Ford (right) is more relaxed, more confident. And Arthur (left) is a bit more weary but letting Ford take the lead. Arthur has his lips puckered more, while Ford’s are more relaxed and a bit more open (although it’s very subtle)
Tumblr media
This one is mainly kiss with body language as an aid. Arthur’s (right) head is tilted up instead of to the side, leaving Oscar (left) to pick whichever direction. The kiss is mainly 3, with a hint of 2 to communicate the more desperate and eager vibe. This is also paired with the subtle head tilt away from eachother and solid position they’re in. This creates a relaxed and content feel, like they started off hungry but ultimately don’t want to take it any further.
Tumblr media
Subtle head tilt, a kiss between 1 n 2, and idle bodies make for a relaxed, domestic and intimate feeling. they’re sharing a kiss that was intended to be quick, but they lingered a few seconds too long and now they’ll stay there for a good 15 minutes. hands resting on the other, lips gently touching, words exchanged between moments of no contact.
GOD SORRY ANYWAY I spent way too long rambling about my podcast men kissing I hope this was insightful I’ll take my leave

Five Best Podcasting Support Podcasts Of 2024
Tumblr media
Podcasts created to help podcasters is a noble cause, especially since these shows are focused on independent podcasters who can use all the support they can get. The tips communicated in these podcasts can ease the pain of being an independent podcaster.
As I've mentioned before, Ear Worthy uses a panel of people from around the U.S., from Texas to California, New Jersey to Oregon, and Alabama to New Hampshire. Also, we do not choose the low-hanging fruit of podcasts with high visibility because of marketing by their podcast network. Just because a podcast has thousands of downloads does not make it a quality, ear-worthy show.
In no particular order, here are Ear Worthy's Five Best Podcast Support Podcasts of 2024.
 ***********************************************************************
 One Minute Podcast Tips
One Minute Podcast Tips is designed for people who want to be better podcasters. Considering that millions are either podcasting now or have tried their hand at podcasting, that's a potentially large and motivated audience.
Host Danny Brown makes good on his promise to help people "be a better podcaster in just a minute a week."
Brown is the Head of Podcaster Support and Experience at Captivate.fm, "the world's only growth-oriented podcast hosting, distribution, analytics, and monetization platform for the serious indie podcaster."
Brown knows his stuff and his tips range from creating a newsletter to a decision on WAV files or MP3 files.  Brown discusses the best audio editing software for beginners and a topic for experienced podcasters like using a shock mount for your microphone.
Check out One Minute Podcast Tips for expert help with your podcast.
Danny Brown is one of the most knowledgeable people in the field. Plus, he's from Canada, where podcasting is booming.
*******************************************
 Podcast Workflows
Joe Casabona is a podcast systems coach who helps busy solopreneurs take back their time. Some even say he perfectly blends content creation and technology like it’s the best cup of coffee you’ve ever had (he says that). Joe is also the host of the Podcast Workflows podcast. Podcasting has many masters, but few true gurus. Joe is one of them.
His podcast, Podcast Workflows, is recommended listening for any aspirational podcaster. On a recent episode, Joe asked, "Can long podcasts compete with short attention spans?" In the episode, Joe takes a machete to the conventional wisdom that current media outlets like social media and podcasting are partially responsible for our "alleged shorter attention spans."
"With the advent of any new technology, there will come its detractors," says Joe in the episode.
************************************************
 Podnews
The podcast news source that is pre-eminent in the industry is Podnews.
First published in August 2018, Podnews has almost 32,000 readersworldwide. Subscribers receive a daily briefing in their inbox every weekday about podcasting and on-demand. Concise, to the point, and a truly global view, their daily email also includes podcast tech, podcast events and jobs.
The daily newsboasts an impressive average open-rate of around 43%, significantly above the industry average. Its website’s articles (daily newsletters and in-depth articles only) have been viewed 1,232,730 times over the past 30 days. Its privacy-aware website has achieved a carbon rating of A+, and in May 2024 was cleaner than 93% of webpages globally.
Podnews has also a daily podcast -- Podnews Daily -- that reports the newsletter in audio form. It's short -- less than five minutes -- and reports on key news items such as Lemonada Media exploring a sale, and Dax Shepard of the Armchair Expert podcast signing with Wondery.
Last month, the podcast achieved 53,534 downloads.
Podnews is the brainchild of James Cridland, who has worked in audio since 1989 as an award-winning copywriter, radio presenter, and internet strategist. *************************************************************
 Podcasting Tech
Podcasting Tech may be one of the best shows about podcasting technology, trends, and optimizing your podcast.
For example, a recent show with guest Pat Cheung, the founder of Fanlist, formerly known as PodInbox, explored the evolution of his company and its potential to transform a podcast.Fanlist simplifies the process for podcasters to effortlessly receive audio messages from their fans -- an excellent monetizing tool.
Mathew Passy has many years of experience in radio and podcasting. A native of East Brunswick, New Jersey, Mathew graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. degree in Media Management and Sociology. He has a Media Arts Center Degree in TV and Radio Broadcasting from the prestigious Connecticut School Of Broadcasting.
Passy is also the founder and ex-owner of Suite Recording, a state-of-the-art audio and video recording suite in South Jersey. Suite Recording, with Joe Gangemi in the booth, serves an impressive client portfolio in South Jersey, which has a vibrant podcasting community.
As a host, Passy is in total command of the conversations he has with guests. As an interviewer, he probes for the information that he believes listeners want and expect.
When discussing podcast technology, Passy offers listeners solutions that are cost-effective and swap complexity for intuitive design.
At the end of every interview, Passy always asks his guest: "If you could, what would you improve about podcasting?"
Best episodes this year include Arielle Nissenblatt on podcast discoverability, Joe Casabona on podcast automation, and Lindsay Graham on podcast discovery.
***********************************************
 Podcast Perspectives
Podcast Perspectives helps you understand the ever-changing podcast industry. Hosted by Jeff Umbro, founder and CEO of The Podglomerate, a podcast services agency focused on production, audience growth, and monetization for some of the biggest podcasts in the world, this show speaks to leaders in the podcast space through longform interviews and panel discussions.
The goal of the podcast is to walk listeners through not only the important news and issues of the day in the podcast landscape, but also to go deep on the topics that podcasters need to know today.
Best episodes this  year include the November 19th episodes with 19 podcast leaders, Lisa LaPorte talking about podcast ads, talking with Donald Albright of Tenderfoot TV, and Alex Goldman on the importance of the story.
**************************************************
Honorable Mention: Podnews Weekly Review, The School Of Podcasting, and The Download.
