#Poppy playtime theory

Kevin Barnes is not "the mean one", "the evil one" or anything like that.

The way I see it, he was 1. definitely abused by his parents and 2. is possibly autistic (?)

1. Kevin generalizes the word "parents" when he has that whole rant before he tries to kill us.

"Hurt back. ALWAYS hurt back. Parents. Scientists. Everyone."

I don't think it's that hard to believe that whatever parents he had (biological or foster parents) would hurt him which is also why he had such a negative reaction to when Jack's parents appeared. That whole incident would not be his priority since it happened over 10 years back. He was likely hurt by those who claimed to be his parents, retaliated and was put into the system. Whether it was his biological parents or (multiple of) his foster parents.

2. I also think he might be autistic. His mind functions on a "You hurt me, so I hurt you" kind of logic. While this could just be entirely because of the abuse, I think there might be that other factor.

During the boss fight, he yells, "Everything's to loud! TOO LOUD!!"

We don't know how and if Jack, Matthew and Kevin communicate mentally. We've only seen them do it outwardly (and it's not like we can read their minds). This might be all 3 overwhelming each other with their thoughts, but I can definitely see this being a part of Kevin's meltdown

We don't get much about their characters, but I think you could read him as such

Round 4 everyone!:D The grand finale to a series I had no idea was gonna be a thing-

I also wanna mention that these posts probably were the most engagement I've ever gotten on Tumblr EVER, it was kinda overwhelming ngl but I'm nonetheless grateful and super happy about it!:>

But now let's get into the thick of it:

These share the common theme of: I'm not sure how to start this, this time my excuse is the fact that I already talked about each of the boys sharing Doey meaning that covers all the basis for his personality and a lot of his interactions.

So instead let me talk about some things that they scrapped for Doey.

So- first things first, some scrapped content that we know of, the first was that apparently Doey was at one point planned to be an antagonist for chapter 2, at first I couldn't really see it but then I did think about it and it weirdly fits when you compare him and mommy longlegs??

Like their gimmicks are kinda similar, both of them are toys that can bend,stretch and twist their bodies however they wish and even from a design standpoint they kind of go together.

Mommy is long and spindly, pink from head to toe meanwhile Doey is big and round with his main color being blue. And I know pink and blue are not opposites on the color wheel but people often associate them as opposites. Not to mention mommy has cool accent color and doey has warm accent colors.

The point I'm trying to make is: they weirdly go together.

Its giving the main big bads henchmen vibes with how they are sorta matching opposites.

Ngl I love that-

It makes me wonder about what could've been, I wouldn't trade my boy does for anything in the world but simply IMAGINE what a more antagonistic Doey could be like, maybe he was more calculating and hid his crazy better or go full hulk on us, maybe he was simply an obstacle mommy would throw at us in the game station.

Some food for thought.

A second thing that was scrapped from chapter 4 was a side quest for Doey where we go to retrieve a book for everyone to read.

And you know what?

We. Were. ROBBED.

FUCKING ROBBED.

I think a little side quest where we just get to contribute to the safe haven would've gone a long way in making the loss of it all the more gut wrenching.

And it just hammers home the fact that all of them are still CHILDREN.

Just imagine: we retrieve the book and then we get to see a little scene of Doey reading to the toys, maybe we even get to sit with them and listen to the story as well, or heck maybe WE get to read the book to them if we wanted to.

And afterwards we get new voice lines from the toys talking about how they really are starting to like us! Maybe even talk to US! It's a little thing that does a lot to make us feel like a part of this community, no longer an outsider.

And a tiny scene like that would make Doeys outburst hurt so much more.

Because we gave him a taste of something better only for the worst possible thing to happen right after.

Like Matthew could've finally gotten to sit back, enjoy a story and experience his first break in YEARS.

Kevin could've started to be more comfortable around us, seeing how much effort we put into helping them, even when it was small things that "didn't matter". He might even start viewing us as a safe adult to be around!

And Jack could just feel like a kid again! Imagine if he doesn't even know the story since he isn't from the orphanage, and he just gets so excited hearing something new and just-

UGHHHHH MY HEART IT WAS SUCH A FUMBLE!

Sometimes, To Win You Play Both Sides

If Dogday and Catnap thought the other was delusional, it would be funny since the irony here is that they’re both actively listening to the same person. (Implying that Dogday was part of Safe Haven which is likely since Dogday mentions Poppy, seemingly being on her side)

If Dogday was a spy to know more about the Prototype’s plan like I previously theorized and built a relationship(whether accidentally or intentionally) with Catnap, it would make sense if the Prototype also pretending to be Ollie already knew about that. Hell, he might as well been the one that introduced the idea of being a spy.

Let’s say, eventually out of a twisted joke he used the Fake Ollie persona to convince Dogday to try to get Catnap on Poppy’s side due to their bond. Surely Catnap would listen, right? Meanwhile, the Prototype is voicing his “concern” that Dogday might be a traitor and a spy to Catnap which Catnap is reluctant to believe.

The Prototype purposefully sets them up against each other and he might as well have grabbed popcorn because this would’ve been one hell of a twisted joke he set up since he knows that if Dogday admits he was a spy and on Poppy’s side, Catnap would be livid. Not only that, in Catnap’s eyes, his superhero is proven right again, isolating Catnap away from another person and maximizing loyalty to the Prototype.

Essentially, this would benefit the Prototype since that means one less bigger body on Poppy’s side/in the Safe Haven, Catnap would be further isolated and in loyalty to the Prototype, its not like Dogday can mention the idea of talking with Ollie to anyone so no one will find out as long as he stays in Playplace, and lastly, he could get a good laugh as he completely won again.

And we all know how that interaction went:

Looking back…this is the most Prototype thing to do.

A Random Doey The Doughman Thought

Okay, so I’ve been listening to the Doey Commercial Jingle on repeat today and one verse in particular stood out to me:

So many toys in one(Woah)Triple times the friend and triple times the fun(Times the fun)

Now, aside from this particular verse and this image from the in-universe commercial:

Being subtle foreshadowing to the nature of Doey’s creation, a thought occurred to me:

Was this commercial made before or after the Bigger Bodies version of Doey was created?

Like, if we take this commercial into account Playtime Co. either:

A. Added the concept of “triple times the friend and triple times the fun” to the tagline of their Doey toy and Playtime Dough as a cruel nod to their crimes.

Or

B. Playtime Co. deliberately added Matthew and Kevin into the mix JUST TO MIRROR THEIR PRODUCT’S TAGLINE.

So, it’s been in my head for quite a while… but… I feel even worse for Catnap after the whole “revelation” from ch 4 of 1006 being Ollie, cause it just makes CN’s situation even sadder.

Like we have "Ollie" warning us about how much of a "monster" Catnap is and how dangerous it is to be in Playcare cause of it... But I wonder now if he actually was just brainwashing us into thinking that Catnap was a devil just so we would be on edge all the time? Dont get me wrong, I am not saying that CN wasnt dangerous, but we barely see him during all the chapter, just once inside the house that, we dont know if it was just an hallucination like the Huggy from the TV, then we see him when he pushes us destroying the mask but didnt harm us past that, just letting us there, then we see him on his shrine, and, after the mini critters and Dogday encounter, briefly when he warn us to leave (IF it was him and not the Prototype trying to lure us). Finally we see him a last time in the confrontation at the end. We dont know for sure if he is even stalking us. Just that he is aware where we are (and that could more possibly have to do with the Prototype than Catnap himself)

And I know some people will try to add Dogday's dialogue in the mix... But considering the recent info, how much if what he said actually happened? Or what if he ended up there because they found out he wasnt actually loyal to 1006? And how do we even know if Catnap is related to any of the deaths of the SC? But going back on track... Now knowing that the Prototype has been the one luring us, and tricking us... How much did he plan ahead? And, if his dialogue says something... Then does it mean that he never even cared for Catnap, his most loyal servant, even a little? At the end is all about him and Poppy isnt it? Like, have you stop thinking, how messed up that Theo, the kid that almost died for his "friend/god", Catnap, the one that was indoctrinated/gr00med into following blinded the Prototype (just like you claim Poppy was by "Ollie"), Catnap that was hinted to yave been a loner with a soft spot for other toys, tortured by the assholes workers like many other toys, was just "another" piece that could be discarded? Damn, that is really sad.

And, just a slight note: the why I address Catnap instead of, lets say, Mommy Long Legs, is cause she didnt seem to be attached to the Prototype, it mostly was her wanting to be free and, following the Prototype to not "be a part of him" so those are different situations. And no, this isn’t also to throw shade to the doggo or trying to excuse CN’s actions, it’s just me overthinking at an inhumane late hour xD thnks for read.

I'm mad. I'm mad. I'm so mad. What the fuck was this chapter. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS CHAPTER?! This was the most traumatizing chapter yet. Btw on a totally unrelated note can i just say the voice acting of everyone was just CHEFS KISS. Everyone did such a phenomenal job. Now back to the game.

I feel so bad for doey. The fact that he stayed when he could leave for the kids that were there. My dude protected them for so long and now every single one is dead! I felt mad at prototype yes but you cant deny we're still a reason for that even if not directly. The moment we entered the safe haven and saw what the prototype did.. I genuinely cried.. Bro, those kids.. Those poor kids.. AAAAAA WHEN I FUCKING GET YOU YOU SON OF A-

Also seeing kissy like that.. My baby.. MY BABY! Thinking about it from her perspective only one she could trust was poppy and after what happened at the end and poppy left she's alone again, maybe cant even trust poppy again i dont know MY BABY DIDNT DESERVE THAT!

Ollie wasn't a shock obv. I think the only reason poppy belived him to be real wasn't out of naivety but more so desperation. I feel bad for poppy too but like doey kissy and riley are up there this chapter.

ALSO POOR RILEY I SWEAR TO GOD EVERY SINGLE PAGE OF THAT JOURNAL AND WHEN WE FIND THE KEY AAAAAAAAAAAAA I've never felt this attached to a character i didn't see or meet. And the way she brutally wrote everything in detail too is just.. Ugh..

Idk wtf prototype is planning to do with all those orphans but I'm mad. I need that thing to cease to exist.

About the doctor, I'm sure he'll be back he's too smart to not have a backup in case things go wrong. Tho if he's a narcissistic i doubt it but yeah.

Talking about coming back I KNEW HUGGY WASN'T DEAD! I FELT STRANGE EMOTIONS WHEN I SAW HIM AGAIN LIKE SCARED BECAUSE OF THE MONOLOGUE AND THE SETTING BUT ALSO EXCITED? IDFK MAN HE'S LIKE A FACE OF THE FRANCHISE SO IT WAS HYPE LMAO

Anyway yeah thats all i gotta say lmao dont mind me yapping. Regardless tho i loved this chapter WAAAAAAAYYYY MOORE THAN THE LAST ONE. Puzzles were just enough, story was intriguing,everything was perfect. I loved it. The storytelling was also on point and every characters introduction was also perfect. I loved loved loved it. CANT WAIT FOR CHAPTER 5! Share your theories with me if you'd like!

Project Doey

The scientists at Playtime didn’t invite Jack’s parents to visit so they could see their son; they allowed them come because they knew Doey would kill them. They were counting on Doey lashing out and taking out Jack’s parents, which is why they locked them in the room together. This way, Jack’s death would be swept under the rug, and Playtime Co. could avoid further lawsuits due to their negligence. At this point, Playtime Co. was likely in financial turmoil and couldn’t afford the repercussions of another lawsuit.

When Kevin said “Everything hurts! The parents, the scientists…” I wonder if he was actually referring to his own parents rather than Jack’s as primarily thought. He had a problematic historic and anger issues, those are some of the indicators of an abusive environment… 🤔

Does anyone here have a theory that 1006 is also an orphan like me? I thought he was a kid all along despite many theories that he was the factory owner.Now I think I'm not too unreasonable to come up with this hypothesis, but chapter 4 will decide whether it's right or wrong :))

Anyway I still built a human child image for 1006, I called him Oliver :3 He is a 10 year old kid, a smart kid that is hard to find. He has a calm and mature personality compared to other children, he is sometimes considered strange/unfriendly because he rarely smiles or greets anyone. But he's not a bad guy, he just has some emotional expression issues.By the way he hates scientists and knows the truth about the playtime company before he was captured as the 1006th test subject. I will go into him more :)))

Poppy Playtime Chap4 Spoilers but the implication that there are multiple kids that make up Doey is so haunting especially with the whole using them to silence the parents thing works

Like on one hand what happened is that the kid we saw fall in was the first to be made into one of the little doh guys and then, after killing the parents, had more kids made and just tossed into Doey

And on the other hand, the idea that kids fall into the doh all time and the whole “come meet your kid we saved them we swear” *locks door* fiasco is just protocol is terrifying.

I need to know how far along the orphanage project was versus when the kid fell in to know if they were the first doh boy or if that’s just one incident of many

We have seen that a bunch of toys have flesh, blood which means also blood vessels and even bones and teeth INSIDE of them.

And several(including Doey himself) talk about being hungry and clearly needing something to sustain themselves as we see characters like catnap be severally malnourished so arguably they also have some kind of digestive system inside of them.

And I know Doey can squeeze through really tiny gaps but if we choose to believe they are still kid organs meaning they are kinda small as they can no longer develop(the skull we find in one of the toys was more in line of a kid skull not an adult one judging by how it’s structured) who’s to say he is simply shifting his organs around and very CAREFULLY can just pass the organ through a gap when shifting around, implying that there may be a limit to how tiny the gaps he can squeeze through can be!

Subject 2000: The Angel

I thought about the theories about who the player might be and I really liked the theories that that the Player is either P.W. or that they’re an experiment themselves….so I combined the two ideas.

Meet my idea/version of our protagonist.

Right: PW when he was a biologist working on the Bigger Bodies. He wasn’t often listened to whenever he had ideas and sometimes was considered like a ghost. Dr. Sawyer was too busy paving the “Golden Path” and even after he was removed, the Doctor barely cared about PW’s presence. Regardless, he had a weird amount of loyalty to the company even if he wasn’t fond with the experiments. Surely there were better methods for these projects but he supposed it didn’t matter nor change things, that’s the truth he’ll have to accept.

Left: The Angel, he doesn’t remember what exactly happened that killed him, did they take him? What was his role again? Who were these people exactly? Lab Coats, that’s what he knew and he knew he was part of them. The guilt rising but nothing he could do about it now. PW, as an experiment, doesn’t have a mouth, unable to speak but still looking just perfectly human enough where he looked identical to his original self…just with some stitches and without much need for sustainable like food or water(though eventually, he’ll need it. It took him a while to figure that one out). He’s a survivalist, no time to feel bad about whenever a toy dies or gets hurts. Regardless, he keeps his odd loyalty like his original self…even if that meant blowing everyone up for Poppy’s plan.

Fun fact: his skin is much more paler as it was all peeled off from his dead body to his new very identical body.

He doesn’t screw around when it comes to survival or violence. Think twice.

He often wears a mask to hide his mouth-less face , it helps with people not noticing a lot.

The Angel of Death had arrived.

Anyway, I figured if he were to be a toy, he would have to look human enough to be considered human by Sawyer, Mommy, and Delight while also looking familiar enough for Delight and Mommy. I wouldn’t be surprised if slight differences of a nobody’s face would throw Sawyer off in recognizing them. Remember PW, despite being a biologist, still sort of talks about the heads in the book like people he barely met. He was roped into this situation and now he’s one of the only workers left standing, unsure if he had any connections to the other coworkers or not. Maybe the other experiments?

After watching Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 I want to suggest a possible theory.

What if our protagonist is Rich or the Kid character Rich was comforting? Like, what if Rich survived because something happened to his wife during the Hour of Joy and has returned to find out the fate of his coworkers. One of them being the Kid he mentored, and he was unable to protect them from the disaster. Or it’s the unnamed Kid character who probably missed a day of work, maybe called in sick, and the Hour of Joy happened. And now, the Kid has returned years later in hopes of finding his former boss and mentor, Rich. Whatever the reason, the game always returns to Rich.

Pretty sure someone already made this connection. I find it cool the three boys seem to represent this psyche theory.

Ego- Jack (I think people underestimate how much voice he has. I can see him being the mediator between Kevin and Matthew when they argue)

Super ego- Matthew

The devs did a great job with this character design! I can tell it was well thought out.
