In times of escalating real estate values, many people must opt for smaller kitchens when renting or buying a home. This New York penthouse has sacrificed a large kitchen for other amenities and consequently, the kitchen is short on counter space. But a clever designer minimized the problem by building in movable drawers that roll out to offer another work surface.

Throw back to these (almost) 1:1 replica Ticketmaster tickets I made while doing crew for a uni production of TGWDLM this past May. (Done only using the Hamilton tour tix I had on my wall at the time as reference!)

I. Hurt.
And I was hurting anyway, I'm pretty down this morning, but this hurt came from an outside source, and affected me in a way I'd honestly not have expected.
See, we bought Nimona last week. After seeing the movie, my kids wanted to read it. And I ended up reading ahead, and I just finished it.
Bonus content at the end, it said, and I was like, oh, an epilogue to the epilogue maybe? That'd be nice. I don't love bittersweet endings, I'd rather...
...no, it's not the conclusion.
It's CHRISTMAS.
In a book that'd had no religion that I noticed up to that point, BOTH bonus extras...were Christmas.
Ya know, usually it doesn't bother me. Usually I just suck it up. I think it helps that I was raised around mostly Jews and people who, if Christian, it didn't matter much to them. I'm from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the descendent of Lower East Side immigrants, and while the world outside was brutal - my grandfather was a World War 2 veteran and among the soldiers who liberated Dachau, I can't remember a time when I didn't know that most people would look the other way if people like me were slaughtered wholesale - my bubble was safe, we were accepted, we were insiders.
I honestly can't think of another time I've interacted with a piece of media and felt so immediately, instantly knocked across the face by OUTSIDER as I just did when I excitedly turned the page to see what these fun extra bonuses were...and it was fucking Christmas.
I didn't even read them.
I'm honestly. So disappointed.
I don't have a thick armor for this kind of hurt. I'm Jewish, and as an adult living outside my old UWS bubble, that's often meant I've felt like an outlier, but I've hardly ever had this feeling where I was welcome to something only to be suddenly, violently shoved out the door.
And I've heard nothing, n.o.t.h.i.n.g. but praise for this book. And on another day, it might not have bothered me. I've never really felt like I had to fight to be seen, especially since I'm tremendously secular. I mean, I've celebrated Christmas my entire life, for starters.
But why. Why was this fantasy setting suddenly Christian? Why was this the touted extra content? Why is THIS special, when the areligious world established to that point was apparently not special enough?
I can't say yet if this ruined the story for me. It's far too soon. But I'm *intensely*, viscerally let down, and...I hurt.
Christians...maybe stop doing this shit.

nd art id - CUR - jane's room
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1 + 2 are miniatures of two of the six Lady and the Unicorn (La Dame à la licorne) tapestries, created circa 1500.
Tumblr media
3 - Jane's folding screen - is made up of the four central panels from this six-panel screen depicting the arrival of a Portugese ship in Nagasaki Harbour, created circa 1600-1625
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4* + 5 are miniature chinoiserie-style french tapestries. unfortunately the images seem to be sourced from my nemesis the Pictures Now collection, so tracking down more specific details about them has proved difficult, but what i have found suggests the designs are from the mid-1600s
Tumblr media
6 - as far as I can tell, all of Jane's opera posters were created by HeR. if they are recreations of real posters I haven't been able to find the originals. but they definitely used the female figure from this 19th c. Japanese print to make the Madama Butterfly poster! bridgeman calls the print 'Courtesan Turning Head' and credits it to Kitugawa Eizan, but I haven't been able to confirm this because the Rennes Musee des Beaux-Arts collections website doesn't seem to work.
*HeR also used #4 in Message in a Haunted Mansion - it's one of the tapestries decorating the main staircase

Frozen Out

A little bit more of Veronica's panties get flashed in later panels, so we will get more contrast on white versus red. But for this story the question is -- did Overstreet get this to an inflated price and notation for the panel where... uh... Veronica's not wearing underwear?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reposting from the initial comments when I initially posted the panel --
Though I realize this is not possible anymore -- I want to get Victor Gorelick, Dan Decarlo, Barry Grossman, and the censor board of the Comics Code Authority of the time into a room and ask them -- who did and who did not do what to produce this panty-less Veronica Lodge? I am going to assume, until given evidence otherwise, that Frank Doyle was not in on it.
And actually, from what I have read, the Comics Code Authority through its final couple decades of impotence was just some low level staff at Archie Comics, the famously clean and non prurient company. So that may explain the final step in the mystery.
On the question of why we have a story where Veronica is slipping and sliding on the ice, creating multiple panels of her flashing her panties -- the reason is because this is usually the domain of Melody in the Josie comics, and at this point in time the company is producing one five page Josie story every other month, with main focus on the Pussycats band.
And now I need to redo the link at the "animation goofs" post.

i feel like DJ dug himself into a pit with his shenanigans, but it's not a very big pit. like he's got this knee-deep hole and he's sitting in it crying for momma. you can get out of it buddy, i believe in you! he just has to work on himself a little and send out some apologies. maybe he needs a lesson in privilege like hope got after she ran away?
A lesson in male privilege?

Rainbow Posy print, Romance Was Born, Australian SS23/24
Pretty sure this has elements lifted from 1970s bedding. Things like the Brentford Nylons sets my Nanna had when I was a tot.
