Please join us for Julia Callis's solo exhibition "Bread and Clutter" at 7pm on Saturday, November 10th at Public Pool. Featuring music stylings by Jake, Claire and Shells. For all we consume and what consumes us. Bread and Clutter draws on the intimacy between person and object. A scene translating the evolution of thoughts, conversations, and mundane objects, deemed precious solely based on their impact within the experience. Leavening Agency: permeate and modify or transform (something) for the better. Julia Callis is a painter born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Though trained as a printmaker, her paintings posses a flatness that mimics that of a print; building depth in layers opposed to strokes. Callis composes paintings by meticulously dissecting personal events and interactions she finds meaningful. Pulling from flashes of conversation and following a nonlinear thought process, she floats tangible objects within the work’s abstraction to infuse particular importance to something supposedly mundane. Callis received her bachelor of fine arts from the University of Michigan and is currently making work out of her studio in Hamtramck, Michigan. julia-callis.com Light refreshments as Butter, to the Bread and the Clutter on a first come first serve bases.
