In a bold move to streamline bureaucracy and cut costs, the UK government is reportedly considering the closure of hundreds of public bodies. The plan, still in the consultation stage, would mark one of the most significant overhauls in decades—targeting quangos and arm’s-length agencies that operate outside direct ministerial control.

Why Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) is Key to Better Public Sector Management
Hey Reddit!
I wanted to spark a discussion about how Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) can improve government programs and public policies. M&E helps ensure accountability, transparency, and better decision-making, making public sector work more effective.
I recently came across a comprehensive course that dives deep into M&E in the public sector, covering topics like program evaluation, performance measurement, and policy impact. It uses real-world case studies and discussions with experts, making it a great resource for anyone involved in public management or policy.
Why is M&E so important?
Improves Decision-Making: Data-driven insights help refine policies and allocate resources effectively.
Ensures Accountability: Tracks progress and ensures transparency in government actions.
Enhances Policy Effectiveness: Provides evidence on what works and what doesn’t.
If you're interested in learning more about M&E, check out this course: Public Sector Monitoring & Evaluation.
What are your thoughts on the role of M&E in public sector work?
Let’s discuss!

Navigating Public Sector Accounting & Budgeting – Challenges & Best Practices? 🤔💡
Hey everyone,
Lately, I’ve been diving into the complexities of public sector finance and how government institutions handle budgeting and financial accountability. It’s fascinating (and sometimes frustrating!) how different it is from private sector accounting—especially when it comes to IPSASB standards, budgeting techniques, and capital investment decisions.
One of the biggest challenges I see is balancing transparency with efficiency—public sector budgets are under constant scrutiny, and mismanagement can lead to huge consequences. Yet, outdated financial systems and rigid processes often slow down much-needed reforms.
I recently came across a training course on Advanced Public Sector Accounting & Budgeting that covers key aspects like financial reporting, cost analysis, and capital investment appraisal. Thought I’d share in case anyone else is looking to level up their understanding of government finance!
🔗 Here’s the course link if you’re interested
Curious to hear from others—what do you think are the biggest challenges in public sector financial management today? Have you worked in government finance or budgeting? Would love to hear any insights or experiences!
