Cuatro hombres, cuatro voces, un sonido: Quartonal es uno de los conjuntos vocales más solicitados de Alemania desde hace más de 15 años. Y el repertorio de los cuatro cantantes del norte de Alemania abarca desde canciones corales clásicas y folclóricas hasta canciones pop y folclóricas internacionales. Para su tercer álbum para Sony Classical, Quartonal ha seleccionado canciones románticas y romanticistas de los siglos XIX y XX bajo el título "Traumgestalten". Se trata de poemas de Goethe, Heine, Eichendorff y Mörike, entre otros. Las canciones y baladas son de compositores tan importantes como Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy y Hugo Wolf. También hay canciones populares, algunas en arreglos modernos.

Temáticamente, las 15 canciones de "Traumgestalten" giran en torno a temas como el amor, el placer y la naturaleza. Felix Mendelssohn, por ejemplo, adaptó "Wasserfahrt" de Heinrich Heine a una pieza coral melancólica y al mismo tiempo oscilante. Wenzel Heinrich Veit (1806-1864) envolvió la famosa balada de Goethe "El rey en Thule" en una canción folclórica. Mathieu Neumann (1867-1928), por su parte, transformó el "Feuerreiter" de Eduard Mörike en una historia de terror musical.

SOBRE EL ARTISTA

El conjunto a capella Quartonal se fundó en 2006 y es uno de los grupos vocales más prometedores surgidos en Alemania en los últimos años. En 2010, los cuatro cantantes (Mirko Ludwig - tenor, Florian Sievers - tenor, Christoph Behm - barítono y Sönke Tams Freier - bajo) de Hamburgo ofrecieron una sensacional actuación de debut en el Concurso Nacional de Coros de Alemania, obteniendo el primer puesto en la categoría de Conjunto Vocal. Impulsados por su éxito en el concurso, Quartonal se embarcó inmediatamente en una apretada agenda de conciertos nacionales e internacionales. El álbum debut de Quartonal, "Another Way - English Vocal Music", se publicó en 2013 en colaboración con Sony Music. Su lanzamiento fue aclamado por la crítica y recibió elogiosas críticas.

Tras su éxito en el Concurso Nacional de Coros de Alemania, Quartonal cosechó una serie de aplausos en concursos de toda Europa. He can hear the surface thoughts of anyone with a Core Brick if he gets within a certain distance, and even communicate and issue commands mentally

The drawback?

He’s like a central hub for mental communication-if one of the knights wants to talk with another in their head, he HAS to act as the middle man and hear EVERYTHING

On the days he can’t get it to turn off, he gets horrid migraines and stresses out because there’s too many voices in his head that DON’T BELONG TO HIM

The other knights know about this and try to help, but there’s only so much they can do-mostly since none of them can stop actively having thoughts.

Guren insists on going to school in that state, even with his Dad practically begging him not to since he gets what’s going on (to some extent), but teenagers gotta teenager

So, it usually ends with Guren having a horrible day-but once everyone is home and he can’t hear them in his head anymore, they switch to sending him a bunch of texts and the notes for the day, wishing him well and just being good friends

That tends to life his spirits about his situation. It sucks, sure, but he’s got ride or die besties that care about him-and he wouldn’t trade that for the world

Glorious 1838 manor in Birmingham, Michigan has been completely remodeled and given some interesting touches. 4bds, 8ba, $3,999,900.

It has the original side hall entrance- the wainscoting and woodwork have been painted white to brighten and freshen it up.

The formal living room is lovely and has a pretty fireplace. It's open and airy.

Love the dining room. It looks like it's in a conservatory and also has a fireplace.

But, this home has 2 sun rooms. They use this one as an informal dining room.

This is actually the sitting room off the main hall, but they have it set up as an office, so that it's convenient if they have clients coming here.

This is actually the formal dining room. I wouldn't use both sunrooms as dining rooms, though.

The kitchen is spacious and cute. Love the sink and the checkered tile- that's different.

MIT engineers advance toward a fault-tolerant quantum computer

In the future, quantum computers could rapidly simulate new materials or help scientists develop faster machine-learning models, opening the door to many new possibilities.

But these applications will only be possible if quantum computers can perform operations extremely quickly, so scientists can make measurements and perform corrections before compounding error rates reduce their accuracy and reliability.

The efficiency of this measurement process, known as readout, relies on the strength of the coupling between photons, which are particles of light that carry quantum information, and artificial atoms, units of matter that are often used to store information in a quantum computer.

Now, MIT researchers have demonstrated what they believe is the strongest nonlinear light-matter coupling ever achieved in a quantum system. Their experiment is a step toward realizing quantum operations and readout that could be performed in a few nanoseconds.

The researchers used a novel superconducting circuit architecture to show nonlinear light-matter coupling that is about an order of magnitude stronger than prior demonstrations, which could enable a quantum processor to run about 10 times faster.

There is still much work to be done before the architecture could be used in a real quantum computer, but demonstrating the fundamental physics behind the process is a major step in the right direction, says Yufeng “Bright” Ye PhD ’24, lead author of a paper on this research.

“This would really eliminate one of the bottlenecks in quantum computing. Usually, you have to measure the results of your computations in between rounds of error correction. This could accelerate how quickly we can reach the fault-tolerant quantum computing stage and be able to get real-world applications and value out of our quantum computers,” says Ye.

He is joined on the paper by senior author Kevin O’Brien, an associate professor and principal investigator in the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT who leads the Quantum Coherent Electronics Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), as well as others at MIT, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and Harvard University. The research appears today in Nature Communications.

A new coupler

This physical demonstration builds on years of theoretical research in the O’Brien group.

After Ye joined the lab as a PhD student in 2019, he began developing a specialized photon detector to enhance quantum information processing.

Through that work, he invented a new type of quantum coupler, which is a device that facilitates interactions between qubits. Qubits are the building blocks of a quantum computer. This so-called quarton coupler had so many potential applications in quantum operations and readout that it quickly became a focus of the lab.

This quarton coupler is a special type of superconducting circuit that has the potential to generate extremely strong nonlinear coupling, which is essential for running most quantum algorithms. As the researchers feed more current into the coupler, it creates an even stronger nonlinear interaction. In this sense, nonlinearity means a system behaves in a way that is greater than the sum of its parts, exhibiting more complex properties.

“Most of the useful interactions in quantum computing come from nonlinear coupling of light and matter. If you can get a more versatile range of different types of coupling, and increase the coupling strength, then you can essentially increase the processing speed of the quantum computer,” Ye explains.

For quantum readout, researchers shine microwave light onto a qubit and then, depending on whether that qubit is in state 0 or 1, there is a frequency shift on its associated readout resonator. They measure this shift to determine the qubit’s state.

Nonlinear light-matter coupling between the qubit and resonator enables this measurement process.

The MIT researchers designed an architecture with a quarton coupler connected to two superconducting qubits on a chip. They turn one qubit into a resonator and use the other qubit as an artificial atom which stores quantum information. This information is transferred in the form of microwave light particles called photons.

“The interaction between these superconducting artificial atoms and the microwave light that routes the signal is basically how an entire superconducting quantum computer is built,” Ye explains.

Enabling faster readout

The quarton coupler creates nonlinear light-matter coupling between the qubit and resonator that’s about an order of magnitude stronger than researchers had achieved before. This could enable a quantum system with lightning-fast readout.

“This work is not the end of the story. This is the fundamental physics demonstration, but there is work going on in the group now to realize really fast readout,” O’Brien says.

That would involve adding additional electronic components, such as filters, to produce a readout circuit that could be incorporated into a larger quantum system.

The researchers also demonstrated extremely strong matter-matter coupling, another type of qubit interaction that is important for quantum operations. This is another area they plan to explore with future work.

Fast operations and readout are especially important for quantum computers because qubits have finite lifespans, a concept known as coherence time.

Stronger nonlinear coupling enables a quantum processor to run faster and with lower error, so the qubits can perform more operations in the same amount of time. This means the qubits can run more rounds of error correction during their lifespans.

“The more runs of error correction you can get in, the lower the error will be in the results,” Ye says.

In the long run, this work could help scientists build a fault-tolerant quantum computer, which is essential for practical, large-scale quantum computation.

This research was supported, in part, by the Army Research Office, the AWS Center for Quantum Computing, and the MIT Center for Quantum Engineering.

Humor can be a great coping mechanism-if it’s not the only one you have. From watching his best friend get murdered (alongside the numerous attempts beforehand) to the everyday traumatic experience that is the horrors of war, one is liable to snap-ESPECIALLY if you’re a sniper like Ceylan. The dude has had to look his victims in the eye for four years, and while they may have been corrupted Quartonians, you don’t just shrug off shit like that

Humor can only take a guy so far, and once it stops working for even a moment, trouble comes knocking in the form of deadly precision arrows that’ll rip through a skull like it was a wet paper towel

Toxsa

Escapism via Video Games only works if you play them constantly-which Toxsa simply cannot do all the time. Considering this is Toxsa’s ONLY coping mechanism, he’s very volatile and moody when not training or fighting on Quarton.

Despite not being anywhere near a fault line, Benham City has become a strange epicenter for daily earth tremors thanks to this gremlin

This lad is aware he’s fucked up-but does nothing about it. He tries to bury his feelings and trauma in sports, extra curriculars, training, and of course fighting Corrupted up on Quarton. He dares not to be alone with his thoughts-lest the darkness come swiftly for his mental well-being

The guy doesn’t even TRY to go fishing anymore-the silence can send him over the edge in mere minutes nowadays. But he has to hold himself together around people because he has venomous knuckle stingers and electricity as an element-not a great combo for blowing off steam at all safely

Gen

Shit home life, shit coping mechanisms, and still denying being gay has made Gen quite the mentally disturbed teenager. He can hold himself together longer than the other knights, but if Guren is in any kind of danger, Gen goes batshit feral-moving just as quickly as the whirlwinds he commands to engage the enemy in what is sure to be a quick, painful death

Yet he still denies to everyone that he’s gay-despite spending a LOT of time in his days thinking about Guren nonstop.

The denial is damaging to his psyche at this point, and yet, he still refuses to admit he wants to kiss a boy for fear of rejection-the fact that Toxsa and Ceylan have been dating for six months has somehow not changed this
