The majority of RT will be saved by community archive efforts.

The only reason you can read all of Homestuck is because two(?) people built a program to allow you to experience it, all online versions are broken or compromised and will only become more so with time.

Spec Ops: The Line, one of the most important games (even if nowadays it seems trite), is no longer legally available to purchase and can only be pirated.

The Nintendo 3DS shop was taken down, making multiple GENERATIONS of games extremely difficult to access.

My honest suggestion to everyone is to pick something. Just one or two things that you care about preserving, buy some hard drives when they go one sale and just save copies of things you like. For me, I have a huge selection of video game ROMs and ISOs, games I don't even plan to play, but I want to have record of them. I also have backups of a few podcasts that are over but I want to ensure never get lost.

(specifically bc there WAS a hilarious movie recap podcast I enjoyed.... That without warning was deleted and is now gone. I'll never listen to it again.)

Pick the thing you want to archive, and do it. You don't need to save everything but we all should save something.

IT'S BEEN A DOOZY OF A DAY, FOLKS

Yeah I've got a couple asks about it lol. (Always a terrifying experience when you log onto tumblr and immediately wonder why your inbox blew up...)

Man, I don't even know how I'm feeling right now. We've spent so many months working on the semi-confident assumption that RWBY would be cancelled that on the one hand I can't feel very shocked about this. On the other hand there's definitely a wide-eyed part of my brain going, "Holy shit the 'RT is failing' theories finally came true O_O" I'm kinda devastated that a company that's been a part of my life for almost a decade (and for other fans far longer) is just up and gone, but simultaneously I don't care because what I loved about RT hasn't existed for some time now. We've already been dealing with that nostlgia for years, we just got a hell of a concentrated dose of it today. There's admittedly some level of vindication regarding those who've been pulling shit in the company for so long and empathy for those who were just getting by and are now suddenly out of a job. There's regret that (despite my tendency to fall VERY behind on projects. RIP I owe everyone in this fandom a massive apology) I'll probably never have an official end to my RWBY Recaps. And there's worry about how this will impact the fandom...

Yeah, not to jump on the pessimism train, but I feel like this is going to catapult some fans' misreadings into new territory. RWBY is now forever the show that was canonically unfinished and thus its perfection is assured. Think there are major issues in Volume 9 and earlier? Nah, that's setup for Volumes we just never got. Catch a contradition or other mistake? They would have explained that if they could. Any possible issues with the show if it gets picked up by someone else? Well, of course there are issues, RT isn't writing it! This was already a fandom where having accurate, nuanced discussions about the text was hard as hell... but it just got so much worse.

Honestly, I say let it go. If they're going to do anything I'd prefer a complete reboot/reworking so that this story might stand a chance. Airing new RWBY Volumes was already beating a dead horse. Resurrecting the horse to start beating it anew just feels ridiculous. Yes, I'm sad for those fans who wanted an official ending, but we've spent so much time waiting on RWBY, being worried about RWBY's future, and I personally have encounted so many shows lately whose finales soured my enjoyment that there's something reassuring in the combination of definitive ambuguity here: you know you're not getting an ending by RT, so just have fun imagining your own.

Overall, I feel like I've got to sit with this for a while, you know? I totally get why so many fans (partiuclarly RWDE fans) are celebrating and/or releasing a sigh of relief right now. I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen any crabs yet lol. But maybe it's just because I'm "old" my tumblr's standards, but there's something undeniably sad about losing that part of your fandom life. Or at least, losing what led to/represents that life. Getting introduced to RWBY by a friend, binging it for the first time, pulling new people in, finding like-minded friends here on tumblr, analyzing it for thousands of words, tracing its history and watching how radically it has changed... that's gone now. Not actually because RWBY still exists, as do my friends, and there's nothing stopping me from writing as much fic/meta as I want, but it still feels like someone closed a door on that part of my life. That's not wholly a bad thing given what RT has been lately, but I do think it'll take more than one post for me to unpack it all.

A non-exhaustive list of things I've loved from Sleep No More, in no particular order

Gossip Girl Party: to celebrate what we feared would be the injection of our beloved niche show into broad public awareness, Jenny Weinbloom and Russ Marshalek hosted a viewing party complete with trivia, an "Is That All There Is?" lip sync contest, and a mask signed by Hecate as the prize, which I was tasked with discreetly picking up at the Hotel from Careena:

Ginger Lobby: Paul and Austin, Porter and Boy Witch pairing for the ages. As Paul said at his salon: "I met my husband in that phone booth right over there!" You simply could not beat the chemistry and intensity of those performances.

Zebra Fucking Katz: the video for "Imma Read" had some masks and the cast loved it so they got him to play in the Rep Bar after the Valentine's Day show

OG Mayfair: pretty hard to beat the wildest, most surprising, most drama-inducing party in the history of the hotel

HELLHOUND: Every time I walk by the wolf in the laundry area on 5 I think of you, Alex Smith.

The thing with your legs: The way Will Seefried would squeeze your legs together with his while doing the Porter 1:1 – one of the best variations ever done in that scene!

Your Heart Sings: and basically every other improv moment with Nate Carter.

How would you like a chocolate penis?: in the wake of Gossip Girl, the hotel found itself the destination of some number of bachelorette parties. One night mid-performance I stopped by Manderley for water and suddenly heard Calloway call out, "EVAN, HOW WOULD YOU LIKE A CHOCOLATE PENIS?"

Team Hard RT: When Bowmore Spirits set up a promotional event with a tasting and show combo ticket, they did a giveaway on Twitter which you could enter by retweeting their posts. Several of us combined as Team Hard RT (remember the only way of retweeting? RT @ soandso? Well, then a dummy account the brand owned won, and we called them out.

Kelly’s Drink: New Year's Eve 2011 - Kelly Bartnik wanted a gin and tonic in the show, so we brought a flask and glass along and assembled it for her in Bald Witch's shrine.

Mayfair 2 with Will: Will's improvised Porter 1:1 at the gate is one of my favorite performance moments of all time.

MIT Media Lab: My entire experience with this project was an unending list of incredible moments. Working with Felix Barrett. William, Alba, Ben and Careena doing awesome things. Repeated 1:1s in the padded cell. An NDA. The whole thing was a fanboy's dream come true.

My name’s Malcolm: Ben Thys' final show as Malcolm, he ran from the ballroom into the stairwell and surprised an unsuspecting audience member who exclaimed "Jesus!" Ben didn't miss a beat and as he ran past her shouted back, "my name is Malcolm!"

Clyde: If you never got to see the original Lodge, I just feel sorry for you. It was the most excellent little cocktail bar imaginable. It also acquired a groundskeeper, Matt Downs, who in the character of Clyde managed to convince an awful lot of people that he worked there.

Oh but the Hotel only has 5 floors: At my 10th show I still had never been to the 6th floor. I found myself in a conversation with Violet. She asked if I had seen everything in the hotel in my many visits? And I said well everything but the 6th floor. "Oh, but the Hotel only has 5 floors," she said. "Let's see what card you're holding." I showed her my Ace. "Oh you aren't going to want to go with them. Or the 2s or the 3s. In fact, why don't you have another drink and I'll come get you when the time is right."

Every Recap About This Time: this little collab with Kevin Cafferty is some of the only good comedy writing I've ever done, and I'm thrilled any time the tropes in it resurface.

Julian’s elevator: When Zach Martens was on as Man-in-Bar as Julian... I often just outright skipped the show. And he gave me the best solo ride in the elevator I ever could have wished for.

We haven’t been properly introduced: At a Pride party a few weeks after all that May Fair stuff happened, I met up with Nick and Paul and finally got to meet Austin, who walked over and greeted me with "we haven't been properly introduced" which disarmed everything.

Do you know who we are?!?: aggressively making out with a friend and fellow fan at one of the Infernos up on the mezzanine, some random party guest walked by and said, "gentlemen, please!" and we both turned, glared at him and in unison responded: "do you know who we are? Do you know whose house this is?"

Heather Matarazzo: The star of "Welcome to the Dollhouse" hosted a storytelling hour in Manderley one night after the show. Being that I had been at the show, I was animatedly talking with people about everything that happened that night, which got me an aggressive shushing from one of my teenage icons. I may have shouted back that it was my bar and I'd talk as much as I pleased.

NYE Balloons: that I got to be at the center of such an iconic moment was a tremendous gift I will cherish forever

Getting my avatar: Oh how I wish I could remember your name, kind fan who made the pineapple dress and the coins and then made this wonderful sketch of me in my confusion as you presented me with the coin. I use this avatar everywhere and I just want to say one more time – thank you, this is the best kind of magic.

Luke Taxi: for whatever reason, despite being a long-time Punchdrunk veteran, Luke Murphy is basically never in roles with 1:1s. Macduff, Macbeth, Neoptolemus, etc. So when I found out he was occasionally doing Taxidermist, I patiently stalked and hoped someday I'd luck into a show and then somehow actually get it. And sure enough, it was very worth that wait – he hit every note of that creepy 1:1 perfectly. Months later as his departure drew near, I lucked into another night he was in the role. Frances Koncan and I followed intently but when the time came and it was just the two of us with him, he looked at us, sighed heavily, and retreated into the bathroom without either of us. Bless that wonderful man, he knows how to keep us wanting more.

WTF Breaks: in the days before the phone lockdown, the bar reopening after first loop was a great time to meet up with people, express shock at casting and/or pulls, and send some insane tweets about what was going on. Kinda miss these tbh.

Scorched haha the Snake: Tony Bordonaro gave me the meta moment I had long worried would come one night when, as he concluded the Banquo 1:1, he said, "they have (long paused) scorched HA HA HA the snake... not killed it."

Is this making out? Brandon made some excellent memes and this one is my favorite. So I'll take the opportunity to shout out the 3 Speakeasy Barmans and 1 Taxidermist who actually did make out with me.

Telegram_mrsnake: That they made this for me when I came back from unemployment, and gave it this file name... man, it moves me to tears even still.

Macbeth is Evan Matthew Cobb: when Evan Copeland first appeared in the show, this was sent to the cast list. A totally honest mistake, to be sure, as at the time if you googled Evan + Sleep No More, I am indeed the one that would come up:

The Fraggle Room: it's fucking real.

Reverse Porter: Nick Dillenburg, you were in the show for exactly 37 seconds and I stalked the hell out of you and got 7 1:1s across all your roles and they were all wonderful, and I am so glad you took the risk of the Reverse Porter on me... it was unforgettable.

Carnival des Corbeaux: of all the party photos, this one will forever be my favorite. If I had to pick one photo to sum up everything that ever happened in the McKittrick Hotel, it's without a doubt this one:

I remember loving Tommy's entrance/introduction. She was a great addition in s2.

2x02: 2100°

I never noticed Owen kind of side hugged his son-in-law before he was his SIL at the cancer remission party

Is this back-to-back episodes of the first (on-screen) times TK and Carlos call each other babe (Carlos in 2.01 and TK here)? They "moved in" and became domestic immediately.

How did Carlos get away with that obvious (poor!) deflection about meeting his parents?

Also how did I kind of miss TK's kindof delection (embarrassment) from how happy he was and jumping to progress the relationship by bringing up Carlos' parents casually in conversation (and he was soo offended in 2x04 after a full season of avoiding a relationship <3)

"I get to rappel into that?" " 'Get to?' That's an interesting choice of words. " Marjan-TK friendship gets to shine!

At the pool scene, why did Nancy actually freeze???

Ok, she redeemed herself and performed the rescue act.

I didn't necessarily expect Tim to survive, being a recurring character and all, but that impact of the lava ball was shocking the first time I saw it...right before the cut to commercial.

Mateo says he was asked to report on what HE saw? (ig they could just ask everybody, but..) I wonder if he and Nancy will ever talk about/mention Tim's death in conversation. [I think they do when they connect later (to go to counseling???)]

It's actually crazy how little time Captain Vega was there before some insane disasters occurred.

You see the difference in how long they've been together by how Grudd and Tarlos have their comfort scenes and TK not really expecting for Carlos to be waiting on the stairs vs the assurance with Grace waiting in the bed already and simply reaching back to hold his hand. Both couples don't need to say anything. It's a big moment for tarlos, because they're a newer couple.

2x03: Hold the Line

kind of pleased that I just so happened to reach this episode when I reached the s4 episode of og on my binge-watch

Tell me why I don't remember Eddie being from Texas (idek)??

"I think that guy [Buck] is staring at you." (and Marjan's head whip); this was so funny

Buck, Mateo, & TK being the ones to end up on digging duty is the most fitting scenario of what you'd expect for each of them (& ofc Marjan and Paul get out of it by volunteering for the other job)

First time I saw this I wasn't watching 911 and wondered why this guy was even flirting w/Marjan

Why do I think the pep talk Judd gives to the "scrawny" boy about fighting back is meant to be significant to his own exp. (I don't remember it coming up later; could relate to his ptsd idk)? Edit: I wonder if it was him thinking abt his friend we find out abt in 2x09?

2x04: Friends with Benefits

They mention Owen's fear of clowns here, before we ever find out how deep it runs.

This is based on nothing substantial but will Carlos & TK move at the end of season 5??? [oh my god i was right!] prob not (just cuz he wasn't set on staying close to family and asked would he move. "If it was for the right person."

I love the awkward Carlos parents meeting so much. Poor TK. This is why I was waiting w/all the TK getting settled into the new relationship notices (he's so much more outwardly emotional about things than Carlos atp)

note: Marjan is 25. She mentions with her fiancé that they always planned to marry in 5 years when they're 30.

2x05: Difficult Conversations

Gwyn and Owen were such a mess, but they were a perfectly matched mess

Poor Grace (father cheating) / Grace and Judd are so healthy/respectful of one another (Grace reassuring Judd before he has to say anything, and him respecting when she doesn't want to talk about it)

2x06: Everyone and Their Brother

I feel like they've been pairing Marjan, Paul, and Mateo more as a trio this season and it's a fun combo of personalities. Then, they've been showing a lot of Judd-TK.

"What made you change your mind?" "I am going to be a father." Do not do this to me. 😭 Do not say this to him.

and TK deciding he wants to be a paramedic this episode, making his own path away frm his dad (a good arc, I like)

2x07: Displaced

Poor Nancy; it's not just that she's missing Tim, it's that she's missing her old team and how she, Michelle and Tim had their own work fam dynamic

(because this brought unexpected hilarity) the Magnetic Field MRI call >

Did they just randomly mention that Paul has ridden a motorcycle (got into an accident)?

2 times they just randomly have Ronen wearing an earring this episode, & I know it's more fitting for his character than Rafael's, but the fact we'll never get both on screen at the same time..

It hurt my heart how the baby wasn't Owen's, but it led to some good stuff next ep, so ready for that!

2x08: Bad Call

marks 1 year of TK's sobriety

Why have I never noticed JUST how cute Carlos' ecstatic clapping at the end of TK's speech is? (also long Grace-Carlos embrace in bg of Gwyn & Owen talking!)

Carlos and his future father-in-law this ep ❤️ (he actually gave him more encouraging advice than Gabriel abt trusting his gut 😢/ (both words can be helpful) )

TK just straight up told Nancy about his parents baby out of the blue on the way to the call (ok, they're friends!)

2x09: Saving Grace

I know Judd wouldn't feel this way, but the accident was actually his friend's fault by pushing down on the pedal

the correlation of Judd feeling responsible for his friend's accident to feeling responsible while he waits for Grace to wake up

😭😍😭 is all I have left to say for this ep

99% expecting Grace to be in Graduate School for s5; we'll see

2x10: A Little Help from My Friends

the Tarlos move-in episode (well their new home doesn't last long)

TK: "Carlos is making his grandma's ropa vieja.." 🥲 I can't wait for our husband's era

I loved the Mateo-Owen roommate arc

It just occurred to me how technically the fireteam (minus captain) will be only Mateo, Marjan, & Paul without Judd and TK's long-standing paramedic title now. (because this szn we see the 3 of them bounce off of each other a lot more & that will be present in s5)

Carlos was put on the spot during that intervention and he still doesn't feel comfortable calling him "Owen" my bby😄

2x11: Slow Burn

This is the second storyline where Marjan's been put in a position to feel like she needs to step back from something, because of perception w/her online presence.

"...a easy mistake-" "that our son should've corrected" why did I never notice the REAL accusation in that line?! (i think it just feels like it because of Carlos' reaction afterwards; i could write a whole analysis on the Gabriel-Carlos miscommunication + their backstory 😢 s5 is gonna break me!!!)

2x12: The Big Heat

idc, I like Billy now (his deadpan is funny)

The consistency of Judd playing video games in scenes is 💯 (appreciate the continuation)

Again, Tommy went thru it her introductory season. Charles 😭

2x13: One Day

not much to add here; this episode is really sad for Tommy-

but man, I forgot how heartbreaking that opening scene is!

2x14: Dust to Dust

2 weeks since Charles' death

wait I can't remember what happened after Tommy saying she was retiring...

Aww Nancy "..how I wanna be as a paramedic, as a captain, and hopefully one day as mom"

Break Time

Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere! But I am taking a week off from posting deals and whatnot.

The Boyfriend and I are long distance, and today he flies in for a week long visit. And I want to be sure to savor every moment I can. Including a trip to the local Ren Faire this weekend, which should be fun. It'll be my first time going to one.

3. Team names? What inspired them?

4. What species are they? Is there any reason behind that choice?

Nuri is a Cubone because of her backstory, where a rampaging Deoxys killed her mother in the human world, making her fear and hate Pokemon and leading to her actions with Devon corp to transfer the incoming meteor to the PMD world. Basically, Nuri looks tough and arrogant, but she's a lost and grieving child at heart :(

As for Chip... there isn't really any narrative theming as to why he's a Skitty, at least not yet, lol. He does have Nidoran traits though because he's the son of the Nidoking explorer from se2!

9. Does your hero ever recover their memory?

Yes! It's gradual, but Nuri starts to remember everything over the course of the postgame. She remembers her mother's death before they go to Meteor Cave... where she insists on going alone. (Chip follows her anyways because he knows that's not good for her)

It's okay, they resolve everything and recruit Deoxys. (I also wanna rethink how I wanna handle this bit) but I'm thinking that this is the climax of Nuri's character arc...

I'm taking a break from YouTube to work on other secret things but I am archiving everything and it reminded me just how much I did in the past five years. Here's a recap thread of all the series I've looked at:

#1 - The Simpsons

You might say this effort started back in 2002, and the YouTube channel exists just because I wanted a place to upload random Simpsons video game trailers and such. But the focused video creation began with this series in 2019.

#2 - Star Trek Deep Space Nine

I enjoyed working on the Simpsons videos and thought, hey, there's other licensed games. It was only natural for me to move on Star Trek DS9 aka the best Star Trek show. There were only four games based on it but they run the gamut from platformer to adventure to RTS.

#3 - The Books of Dan Brown

It was time to branch out from television to the world of fine* literature. I'd always wanted to read Dan Brown's books and I did and I don't recommend you ever do this. But the movies are neat and there were more games than you can imagine based on those movies.

#4 - King of the Hill

This was an exercise in wringing as much from a single video game as possible. King of the Hill for PC has the Lovercraftian quality of driving people mad when they look upon it and I expressed that madness by making video after video about it.

#5 - Young Indiana Jones

I would never try to play every single Indiana Jones video game but a subset of games featuring the character as a child, sure. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was a short TV series from the mid-90s that explored why Indy lacked parental supervision.

#6 - Goosebumps

Another dip into the literary world and a fine excuse to go back and read all those Goosebumps books I skipped the moment I turned 13 and was too cool for them. Surprise, they're still hella fun to read. And there were *so* many video games based on those books.

#7 - The Collective

I kept coming across The Collective during my research. I discovered nearly their entire catalog was licensed games and thought that examining a single studio's output would be enlightening. Dunno if I achieved enlightenment, but the mix of games was fascinating.

#8 - Mighty Max

Another excuse to run through an old cartoon show that I never got to watch in full. There weren't many games based on the toy/cartoon franchise, and the few that released weren't all that great, and... I forgot where I was going with this. They exist?

#9 - Gargoyles

Doubling down on the cartoon nostalgia by subscribing to Disney+ just so I could watch this show. It's a helluva cartoon and the second season in particular is a tour de force of weekday afternoon animation. The games are hit and mostly miss, but still intriguing.

#10 - Dr. Slump

I'd been mired in American creations and needed to branch out. Perhaps Akira Toriyama? DBZ was intimidating so I instead decided to venture into his first big manga, Dr. Slump. I discovered a charming and very funny series that really woke me up to the greatness of Toriyama.

#10 - Frankenstein

Just like I'd spent too much time researching works created by Americans, I was also spending too much time on things created by men. I picked Frankenstein by Mary Shelley as a work created by a woman and crashed into the more than 85 video games based on her landmark novel.

#11 - Hey, I Was There!

This ongoing series is really just a self-indulgent excuse to play licensed games I worked on such as 50 Cent Bulletproof, Ice Age 2 The Meltdown, and Predator Concrete Jungle. Video game classics that we all remember fondly, right?!

I'm honestly am very surprised at my gaming recap on YouTube this year. I didn't think I watched mithzan the most but I did go on a month or two binge where i only watched his and rts content lmao.

So have you completely dropped RWBY as of now? Couldn't help but notice, you haven't posted anything RWBY related for a while. Thought you would at least comment on the closure of RT. Are you washing your hands of the whole series or is you just taking a break from it or something?

Definitely not!

Yeah, I haven't posted anything RWBY related in a long while and that's 100% due to the specific circle of hell known as full-time employment. Back when I was churning out a recap a week + side metas I was unemployed and had numerous hours post-applying each day to devote to fandom projects. Now, I've not only got a 9 to 5 but a career that generates a) tons of work outside of normal hours and b) a level of exhaustion I straight up have not experienced before. No lie, 99% of my free time now has been spent sleeping, or mindlessly consuming the chillest of media. My heart wants to write RWBY things. My brain and body cackle at the concept and make me take 6:00pm naps.

BUT there is hope on the horizon! I'll have the summer months (mostly) off, so that will free up not only time but the energy to actually do something with it.

HIS NAME IS FULK. I can't get over it. I think a contemporary publisher would be like, nah, you need to change that guy's name. Otherwise people (like me) who read too fast will think it says Fuck the Reluctant.

But this review on Amz from ME Wood titled " Great plot, lots of deception and battles; not just sex" Contains this line:

"Fulk de Galliard is a giant among men both in stature and honor. He loves his family and his horse."

HE LOVES HIS HORSE.

Not sure how well of a story this would make, but I always remember my favorite Town of Salem moment. It's resulted in one of my favorite screenshots of any game ever.

To recap: I named myself "Guard", rolled RT Bodyguard in classic (so I got the only RT slot, and then happened to roll Bodyguard), and then, on the literal very first night, died taking down the Serial Killer. I was literally the perfect Bodyguard. Perfectly optimal. A Bodyguard named Guard who literally instantly died killing one of the biggest threats in the game. I don't remember much else about this game (town won, I'm pretty sure) but the sheer high of this one moment has stuck with me for years.

"Who's that guy?" one of the townsfolk murmured to the person beside her, unable to get her eyes off the brooding stranger that stood at their opposite.

"The Guard," he could only shrug as she looked at him weirdly. "Don't ask me. That's what they said their name was."

That's what they chose to be called. There was no point in making a name for themself.

When they would later stand at the doorstep of a stranger that they knew not a thing about, they had already resigned themself for a cause that would mean their life.

They have heard a hundred stories in their lifetime about how people are only relevant in death, and in death about how they are slowly forgotten.

The thought was always horrifying to many. In fact, they would be lying if they said they weren't terrified of death, but they were honest when they said they weren't scared of dying.

Before they could knock on the door, they heard suspicious rustling from a corner of the house, and without thinking twice, they immediately went to investigate.

That's when they saw him. He was wielding a knife on one hand while the other tried to unlock the window, and he was staring at them like a deer caught in the headlights.

It was often a thankless job— being a bodyguard that is.

The last thing they saw before they died was the shocked face of the homeowner at the window, and when they came to the trials that morning as a ghost, they watched in awe as she placed some lilies where they once stood.

"That's funny. They were actually a bodyguard," she had said at one point. "I don't know your name, but I will always remember this moment. Thank you."

Nothing can compare to the euphoria that came after. Whether it was the praise or their purpose fulfilled, for what it was worth, they didn't need a name.

"That's the last of them!" she, the town's sheriff, would later announce. It had been a week since. "Salem! We won!"

Salem celebrated their victory with cries of relief.

"Hey." She walked over to the lilies she'd replaced when they wilted, but instead of looking at the flowers, she looked right at them. "This one’s for you, and it’s because of you."

Being happy for oneself is enough, but they certainly didn’t mind sharing that.
