Sonic the Hedgehog in Tabletop Simulator. Not like an RPG, I mean an actual platforming game.

I do enjoy it when a game is clearly trying to use a wildly inappropriate pre-built game engine for what it wants to do, but I don't see why RPG Maker should have all the fun. Do grid-based tactical combat in Inform. Write a rhythm game in Twine. Implement that precision puzzle platformer in Ren'Py. You know you want to.

I've made a self-hosting guide. This tutorial is focused on installing a panel on a virtual private server. These panels are often made for multiple users to use, so if you struggle with setup, one friend who's good with linux can host everything. Or you can set up one central server for a doujin circle.

If people like/use this tutorial, I plan to make more tutorials in future because I think the solution to so many problems we have on the internet are people making their own servers. You can move from server to server easily, and you can always revive your files, even if your VPS goes down.

Lastly, I love to help. It makes me really happy, but I am prone to exhaustion so my responses may be slow, and well, if you ask me something, I need you to provide as much detail to me with what you're struggling with as possible or else I can't help you.

NSDEVLOG #2

okay so, I was being very dramatic first devlog so disregard most of it (except my hatred for GUI that will persist) don't have much to say this time besides that i feel kind of terrible (medically) but im still trying to get some work done, cus from, like, aug 4 til june next year I will be busy to death (senior year of uni) and ill be pleasantly surprised if i all together manage survive this stressful period WITHOUT getting worse. but knowing me, i'll still find some time to work on my projectsss and do art.

all i got 4 show rn is me plugging in some !!TEST!! walks and idles, and that actually worked without issue, Shockingly.

do note that this will be colored. the entire thing will probably be colored even tho I briefly considered the black and white/limited pallate route but Prolly Not. unless i for some reason struggle really bad with coloring things.

you may have also noticed this is a different style than what i usually draw in... i just wanted to go to a more simplistic/cartoonish route not rlly for my personal ease i just want it to look a very certain way. I'm branching out.

PS: whenever there's animation just know it's going to look Very Amatuer. dont worry about it. what matters is that I Tried. but everything shown here is a placeholder... and thats why this whole this is going to be like... 5 dollars.

Inform going open source didn't exactly solve the problem of the developer taking forever to release new features because they perversely insist on bundling dozens of unrelated things into ridiculously ambitious mega-releases once a decade, but at least the fact that it's on Github means you don't actually have to wait the full decade if you're crazy enough to run the build yourself.

...So uh, I kinda lost some game files... and I had to technically start over, but it was a good thing!

Because there was some stuff I didn't like so, I guess it's still a win.

I won't lie to y'all, the shit with Steam, and now Itch.io, scares the shit out of me. I'm a small studio. It's made up of myself and my wife, and we are not exactly ranking in cash or anything, but we're both queer women trying to make games that express our world and tell stories we're happy with. With the news of adult content being shadowbanned on itch.io, I am likely going to have to deeply change one of the TTRPGs we planned on working on after Shattered Neon, as sex was one of the mechanical elements within that was being used to discuss the trans and queer experience. I am also going to have to work with other games devs to see if my two VNs I've been slowly writing in the background for over a year will be doomed by this change, as both include sex scenes of trans woman, as the main protagonist is a trans woman in both stories. The fact I don't get to know at what point something is too "adult" often to be banned on so many platforms right now, that art I want to make about my life and experience to express who I am to the world is being pushed more and more to the side? I don't know what to do about it. I suppose I'll keep moving forward, because I have to, but what does it all mean for me and the living I hope to make out of what I've wanted to do my whole life? I hope and pray my art won't die, because the longer I look at the world in front of me, the more it seems like that's what it is doomed for. Piles of burnt dreams and messages. My desire to leave a message of hope and love a scream into a void because those with so much more power than I simply see me as a threat. For existing, for telling my story, for being who I am. I don't have much of a call to action in all of this, because frankly, I don't know what you can do. I barely know what i can do. We could become a mass of anger and hope those above us throw us a bone for a while to calm us, but I don't know how much that will work long-term. I don't know of an initiative doing anything besides the ACLU, and they've got bigger fish to fry. I guess the best I can ask of you is please, please, just support the trans and queer creatives left in your life. We need it, because if things like this keep happening then we won't be able to stay in your life forever. Buy what you can from us if you have something to give, and if you have no money to give then please look at what we make at least, take things we give for free, and don't let our voices die.

Don't let us be forgotten.
