[Rain Tree Crow] [Rain Tree Crow] [CD] [1991] 7 years after the separation of the band "Japan" all four musicians found together again under the name "Rain Tree Crow". The result is a masterpiece of music history that can hardly be put into words. Mick Karn, Richard Barbierie, Steve Jansen and David Sylvian shine on their instruments and harmonize so well that it almost hurts. . The individual tracks also hurt, because they are achingly beautiful. Stylistically the music moves away a bit from "Japan" and instead goes more in the direction of David Sylvian's early solo works. Partly jazzy, partly very melancholic, partly gloomy ambient sounds, always exciting and full of surprises and yet comfortably familiar. An unusual masterful mixture of jazz, progrock, artpop and ambient. Those who loved "Japan" sparingly and appreciate the solo works of the individual band members will love this album beyond all measure. Rain Crow Tree - S/T (2019 reissue).....Huge fan of Japan and David Sylvian. Very unlike of me since I’m more into rock or guitar based music. All those ambient and electronic or experimental music is really not up my alley. But the music or impressions you get implanted of a band as a child does go a long way. I was totally in love with Japan during my teens and I have no idea how I got started on them, but that bond never broke even to this day. I only had this album on CD so when the reissue of vinyl was announced there wasn’t a bit of hesitation in grabbing this.
