I wonder how much it hurt Marc to lose Steven in the duat literally moments after talking about and reliving Randall's death and the aftermath of it. Like it must've felt like he failed to save a brother twice :')

🌕 MOON KNIGHTCEMBER 🌕
-------
Day 03 - Window Pain
Kept this one pretty simple. And though I had a lot of ideas for it I decided that to me losing Randall wasn’t just Marc losing a brother, but also losing his childhood. Seeing childhood ripped away. The show has many moments of Marc looking behind a glass/through a glass/oh and mirrors, but I wanted to highlight a moment we never saw on screen: the final holiday with his sibling, a moment so fragile and fleeting. Something tucked behind one of those hospital doors that wasn’t shown yet.
.
Thanks for hosting crystal_jelly64 !!

I don't think we'll see Moon Knight ever again in the MCU, so there's nothing stopping me from doing this:
So first credit, I got this idea from this fanfic, I don't know if that's where that story was going, but that's where I'm going.
As you know, in the comics Randall did not die as a child and actually became a serial killer and one of Moon Knight's recurring enemies (possibly his arch enemy I don't know much about the comic); and I was wondering can we reconciliate these two takes? Yes we can, you see, an aspect of DID is selective memory, you can see it in Steven not knowing anything in the show; so wouldn't it be totally fucked up if Marc also has some significant memory gaps regarding his brother, namely that he did not die and in fact Randall grew up to adulthood and joined the military, became a mercenary, betrayed their group, tried to kill Marc (and the system) and became a serial killer; Marc remembers him dying in the cave because it's easier to deal with than accepting that his little brother became a monster due to combined trauma of his near death experience and the abuse from their mother
Also yes, Wendy's abuse is unrelated to Randall, and it actually started before the incident in the cave, but Marc only remembers starting afterwards because it's a way to punish himself for almost letting Randall die

More on this AU!!!
Marc became a pirate (an arms and artifacts smuggler specifically) serving Khonshu on the high seas, he was first mate to Bushman before that, and was also in the navy with him.
Bushman was always y‘know more ruthless than him and Marc wasn’t always comfortable with it but they mostly killed other pirates so he lived with it until one day…
One day Bushman called Marc out from the cabin to a half dozen merpeople tied on the deck, wanting to kill them, a legend that merpeople’s hearts are these invaluable relics that can be used in magic or alchemy or whatever he thinks they can sell them regardless.
Marc can’t have that he can’t kill his own kind even if he had left them behind and they never really embraced him, he and Bushman struggle and a few of the merpeople get away but Marc gets shot and thrown overboard.
Bleeding out on the beach of the Nile you know who towers over him under the full moon and voila, he is now Khonshu’s fist of justice.
Back in the past…
Randall was Marc’s half brother, not being half human like Marc he couldn’t survive breathing air or drying out, and when they were boys Marc took him up onto to this rocky beach to show him near things he’d collected as kids do.
He knew he wasn’t supposed to bring him up on land but without his father but he did anyway and then the tide went out and Marc wasn’t strong enough to get his him back to the water.
Trigger warning and not to hurt your heart too bad but Marc dragging his little brother back holding him in his arms and shaking him trying to get him to breathe but it’s just too late, Marc’s tears invisible in the water, sobbing as he screams for help.
Yeah.
His father lived in a little beach house close by and Marc spent more and more of his time there as his mom got abusive, but his father always insisted he return to the water for his own safety. Eventually he couldn’t take it any more and ran away to live on land.
Then years after all that and his near death everything already in the first post and such Steven is now fronting a lot more and even accepts Layla’s invitation on land so they can discuss things and figure out just what Marc has been doing.
Layla shows Steven London and the apartment Marc was supposed to move into with her after their honeymoon which never happened because he disappeared.
Steven is so wonderstruck by the city, he tells Layla it’s like things he’s read about and how merpeople used to have beautiful underwater kingdoms before they were hunted to near extinction.
There is this taboo about being part human despite so many merpeople these days being and as such being an outed half human gets you shunned even by other half humans, which is what happened to Marc, and why he didn’t return to the coast off of Georgia but stayed to make a new life for Steven away from anyone that knew either of them. Except they do, like I said they migrate and there’s not many merpeople in the world anyway so they’ve heard of him and how he lives on land, believing him traitorous for doing so.
Oh also! Layla is one quarter merperson (her dad was half, one of the ones Bushman killed) which means she can’t transform but can breathe underwater. She finds that out the hard way when Steven isn’t strong enough to pull her up for air (she can’t swim, her parents always kept her away from water) and it turns out she doesn’t need it.
Instead of knowing everything about Egypt Steven knows everything about the sea and the history of sea travel and merpeople.
Which is incredibly helpful because Layla and Marc have an expedition they had put on hold for their wedding trying to track down this ancient jewel or something (maybe it’s the heart of a merman pharaoh) that’s somewhere in an ancient city under the Sahara and Steven instantly knows that’s an ancient merperson city. Oh also ancient merpeople are ancestors of most modern humans and worshipped the moon because of tides and such so Steven feels very weird about Khonshu.
And yeah that all I got for this AU.

“Missed Mark”
Excerpt from the beginning of my weird story that I wrote because there wasn't a Moon Knight season 2 and also because I needed an outlet for insomnia.
No content warnings yet for this part (it’s ‘safe’ for now).
This is my first post and english is one of my languages, so please don't bully me!
Oh yeah and the whole story is called "Arca Reform".
~~~
The rifle's weight is a comfort.
Seven-point-two kilograms of precision resting on a bed of moss and stone. The visibility is clean, Marc’s breath doesn't fog the scope. He’s been on the ridge for three hours, lying belly-down in damp earth. Romania’s colder than the file said, but the cold keeps you honest.
“Control, this is Echo One. Eyes on the package.” Comms crackle, low and wet in his earpiece. “Confirm: package includes asset ‘Lazar’? I’m seeing Lazar plus six.” “Affirmative,” the voice replies. “Six confirmed in-bound. Target 'Lazar' waiting for female unknown. Suspected handler. Eyes on her if you have it.” “Copy that.”
He shifts his position slightly. The jet taxis in slow across the private runway, Marc tracks it through the scope. First one out’s a girl. Not ‘Lazar’, he’s on the tarmac waiting at the foot of the stairs, still fucking around with his jacket or some overpriced duffel. She walks straight to him and grabs him into a hug. Familiarity it seems, not affection. They speak close, not smiling, before she steps away. Marc tracks her movement.
“Echo One, we’re tagging her as priority-two. Likely internal handler or transition officer. You seeing anything on the interaction?” “Affirmative,” Marc murmurs. “Looks like a warm drop.” “Copy. Lazar’s last contact was flagged as suspected ‘Velvet Rope’ activity.” “Understood.”
Velvet Rope. Soft acquisition. Trafficking via lifestyle grooming. Parties, planes, paperwork. They don't take them, they invite them.
The others are coming down now. Six of them, just like Control said. College-aged, high-value, wearing designer shoes. One of them stumbles, laughing too loud. Another one looks back at the jet like they’re debating running.
The first girl, the female handler, walks to another man and hands him a piece of folded paper. He nods once. Marc’s scope follows the nod. Like clockwork, three other men start moving. One of them flashes the butt of a pistol under his jacket. Another closes the hangar door behind them.
One of the other girls falters as the first man nears. Panic flashes in her eyes and she calls out to the handler. She doesn’t respond, doesn’t even look back. Keeps watching them like they’re strangers.
“Echo One, you have a shot on the female?” Marc adjusts the reticle and locks onto centre mass. “Target is stationary. I have the angle.” “Confirm green for neutralization.” “...Copy.”
Marc’s finger tightens.
“Do it,” the voice says. Only it’s not Control. It’s something behind the voice. Inside his head, rotten and familiar. The same voice that came home with him from Egypt.
She doesn’t belong here.
His hand doesn’t move.
End it now. Or you’ll regret it.
The scope stays steady, crosshairs centering on her spine. Clean, no wind shift. No trigger slip. But hesitation kills clean. She rounds the plane, and the shot’s gone.
“Echo One, Control. We did not register discharge. Confirm status.”
Marc exhales slowly, finger still poised over the trigger.
“Target moved. Shot window closed.” “Any interference?” “Negative. No external. Just timing.” “Understood. Log deviation. Proceed to fallback. Debrief zero-eight.” “Copy.”
The line goes dead.
She was in the box. The shot was clean, but he’d waited.
Marc moves. His body obeys, it always does. He slips his mask back on and packs his rifle away. No excuses, just a job he didn’t finish. Next time, he won’t hesitate.
Picking this up, you know, MCU Randall Spector is not dead and a serial killer like the comics and Marc doesn't remember because DID
So we got a hero meeting, and I'm not sure who of the Avengers 2.0 (since "New Avengers" is taken) would know about serial killers, I dunno Spider-man or Sam, I don't know, but the point is that somehow the subject of Marc's dead brother comes up, and Whoever is like "Randall Spector? From Chicago? He's not dead, he's a serial killer, they call him Hatchet-man"
And Marc, is like "No, he's dead, I saw him die when were kids" "No he's alive, he killed a bunch of nurses a few years back" and Marc is denying it, but getting more frantic and suddenly Steven is on the forefront, confused, but he's actually better equipped to deal with the fact that Randall is alive and a serial killer (Jake doesn't want him to know this, but he doesn't know shit); and since I like the take that Steven has been reading about DID he starts to realize Marc also has selective memory and this is something to tell their therapist.
Comic Moon Knight vs MCU Moon Knight; Randall Spector
So, everyone who's familiar with Moon Knight, whether comic fan, or MCU fan, are familiar with lil ol' Randall Spector, Marc's brother. To be frank, I'm not much cultured in comic storylines, but there is so many differences between the two variants of our beloved, croissant crusader, that I found—I could be wrong, cause I haven't really read the comics; just reading stuff I find on the internet. So feel free to correct me. For the sake of this argument, which I wrote out of boredom :p, I'll be focusing on Randall. The origins divert at one specific point: Randall. He is the butterfly effect. In the comics, he did not lose his life in the storm, as illustrated in the series. Instead, the two Spector brothers grew up, naturally, and when they came of age, both enlisted in the Marines. From that point on, I have no clue what occured, as my knowledge only continues to the (second) moment that flipped everything: The Temple of Seti III—The place where Marc became The Fist Of Vengeance.
Both Spectors had been on the other side of the ambush, with Marc aiding Raoul Bushman, and Randall on the Alraune's side (I can do a comparison, if anyone wants, between Layla El-Faouly and Marlene Alraune). Obviously, Bushman betrays the older Spector, and shoots him. Everyone believed him to be dead. A little fast forward, and Marc seeks shelter/eternal rest in the Temple of Seti III. It is then, does the Ancient Moon God, Khonshu, or Chons—only comic fans will understand this ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔ. Here's where I feel that Roro gets the strong urge to be Marc, and I don't think it is a coincidence written, either. Randall followed Marc in the temple, and viewed his big brother shift from a Mercenary into Khonshu's Avatar. The scene released a new emotion, one that would be the cause for his future. Awe struck him, and so, when the time came, the young brother begged the deity for the same gift. The deity with multiple faces refused his new candidate, layed out in front of him; believing Marc to be a much suiter candidate. Randall took it in offense, and from that point on, he vowed to become the new Avatar of Khonshu, Shadow Knight.
The relationship between two brothers dissipated by spite, and jealousy, with one trying to rid the world of the other. Shadow Knight goes out of his way to ruin the very existence of his brother, his childhood idol, by any means available. Being so desperate to even attack Marlene Alraune, who was with child at that point, and which led to the abortion of the kid. Not to mention, causing the paralysis of John Paul Ducamp, also known as Frenchie; one of Marc's allies and closest friends. His actions caused immense destruction to his radius, and, to end his schemes for once and for all, Moon Knight had taken his life. Let's be honest, comics always revive people. It is interesting to figure out the nexus event that'd lead to the creation of our MCU Moon Knight. Surely, He Who Remains—more like the writers—had spared Marc of this tragedy, by implementing a different coarse that'd lead to the same result, yet with fewer loss.
