Building Solutions with Cement: Top Tips for Homeowners
A dream for many is to build a home and to make sure it stands for generations to come, the right materials need to be chosen. Cement is one of the most important construction materials and has a big role to play in your home’s strength, durability, and quality.
Knowing the best practices and choosing the best cement will help homeowners make their projects successful and lasting. This blog highlights top tips for homeowners looking for effective building solutions with cement.
Choosing the Right Cement for Construction
Selecting the right cement for construction is the foundation of any project, whether it’s building walls, laying floors, or creating a strong roof. Different types of cement cater to specific needs:
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC): Great for projects where quick setting and early strength are required.
Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC): Homeowners choose it because it is durable in the long run, does not crack easily, and is eco-friendly.
Water Resistant Cement: This type of flashing is designed to prevent moisture seepage, and is perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and roofs.
While PPC cement is a reliable and versatile option for most residential projects, water-resistant cement offers added protection in moisture-prone areas, ensuring your walls remain strong and damage-free for years.
Home construction can be a challenge under climate conditions. The materials used have to endure everything from heavy rainfall to scorching summers. All-weather cement is specifically formulated to perform well under extreme temperatures and humidity.
It resists cracks due to temperature changes and is very durable, making it a good choice for outdoor structures such as roofs, driveways, and external walls. All-weather cement is for homeowners living in areas that get rain or snow so that your home stays strong and resilient regardless of the season.
Top Tips for Home Construction with the Best Cement
1. Carefully Plan your Mix Proportion
Concrete strength and durability depend on keeping the right mix of cement, sand, aggregates, and water. For general construction, a common mixing ratio of 1:2:4 (cement, sand, and aggregates) is adopted.
This ratio varies depending on your project’s structural needs. A good mix with excellent bonding and load-bearing capacity is achieved using the best cement in the right proportion. Don’t add too much water as it will weaken the mix and reduce strength.
2. Start with Focus on Waterproofing
One of the most common causes of structural damage is water seepage. Damp walls and leaks are just the beginning; not waterproofing can mean expensive repairs in the future. Using water-resistant cement during the construction stage offers a proactive solution to moisture-related issues. Surfaces in bathrooms, basements, and terraces should be well-coated with water-resistant materials. Proper curing of water-resistant cement can greatly extend the life of your structure.
3. Use PPC Cement for Enhanced Durability
PPC cement is a great solution if you are looking for long-lasting and cost-effective benefits. It is a blend of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and pozzolanic materials such as fly ash, which improves its durability and crack resistance.
PPC cement is particularly suitable for plastering, masonry, and structures exposed to moisture because it reduces the risk of shrinkage cracks and improves workability. Opting for PPC cement as a homeowner means you will have a material that strengthens your home and is also eco-friendly.
4. Proper Curing for Maximum Strength
Curing is an important step in the construction process. It consists of maintaining the cemented surface moist so that the concrete may obtain its full strength. If this step is neglected, it can result in weakened structures, cracks, and reduced durability.
Cure concrete surfaces for at least 7 to 14 days for best results. This is especially important when using all-weather cement, as it enhances its ability to withstand temperature variations and moisture.
5. Choose Quality Materials
Strong materials start with a strong home. It is always advisable to buy cement from reputed manufacturers to check for consistency and performance. Choose the best cement and it should be industry standard and certified. Quality cement may be slightly more expensive, but it is built to last [with unmatched reliability and strength], reducing long-term maintenance costs.
Final Thoughts
A strong, durable home is built through careful planning, with quality materials and techniques. Whether you’re constructing a new house or renovating an existing one, choosing the right cement for construction is essential. From PPC cement for long-term durability to all-weather cement for resilience against climate change, understanding your options helps you make informed decisions.
Homeowners can make sure their homes last by using the best materials, the right mix proportions, and waterproofing solutions. With the right building solutions, you are not just constructing a structure but creating a safe, durable, and comfortable space for your family to cherish for years.

Familiar Stranger
Brock Rumlow X Reader
Yall I found this abandoned in an OLD folder so 🤷♀️
When Rick's group is cornered by the saviors you offer yourself as the pound of flesh Negan is owed to save your people but a familiar face is amongst your enemies
You had no clue who these assholes were nor what their plan was for all of you. They had the upperhand, your crew was outmanned and outgunned. That knowledge mixed with looking down the line up at Maggie who was pregant and in pain, Daryl who had visibily been injured and Carl who still had so much life ahead of him even in this world was the only thing that made you go along with being told to get on your knees.
You chanced a look around trying to get some sort of an idea just how many were surrounding all of you. Your stomach felt as heavy as if a slab of concrete was settled in the pit of it. There were so many bodies, men far enough back from the headlights of the trucks parked throughout the clearing that all you could see of them were their silhouettes. Too many to count and far too many to fight.
One stepped in front of the line up leering at you before turning his attention to Rick. You watched his demeanour, how everything from his hair which was greased to the out of date mustache screamed pervert. If you knew you wouldn't cause harm to become of anyone else you would've been tempted to kill him for the hell of it. "Alright we got a full boat lets meet the man" He announced and that got your attention.
Your eyes followed him across the clearing to where the RV had been parked. He knocked on the side of it then walked back over to stand with some of the men obviously awaiting whoever was about to make their presence known. The door opened and a man walked slowly down onto the dirt. He was around Ricks height wearing a leather jacket and carrying a wicked looking bat over his shoulder that had been meticulously wrapped in barbed wire under other circumstances you would've called him attractive but at the moment your aunt's voice saying how lucifer was the best looking in the garrison rang through your ears as if she was sitting right next to you. "Pissing our pants yet?" He asked with a smile that you ached to knock off his face.
"Boy do I have a feeling we're getting close" he continued as he started to cover the ground between where he stood and where all of you had been lined up for the picking. "Yup. Gonna be piss pants city here real soon" you knew all of this was an intimidation factor but you refused to cower when he met your eyes. "Which one of you pricks is the leader?" He asked skimming his eyes across your faces. "Its this one. He's the guy" Perv revealed pointing to Rick. Baseball bat stopped in front of Rick and smiled "Hi. You're Rick right? I'm Negan and I do not appreciate you killing my men" Negan took a breath then added "Also when I sent my people to kill your people for killing my people. You killed more of my people. Not cool. You have no idea how not cool that shit is"
Negan looked over all of you again before his eyes went back to Rick "but I think you're gonna be up to speed shortly. Yeah. You are so gonna regret crossing me in a few minutes" you felt bile threatening to come up into your throat. Negans words held an unspoke threat you knew was going to be horrible and bloody.
He smiled and took a step away from Rick "See Rick no matter what you do. You don't mess with the new world order. The new world order is this and it's really very simple so even if you're stupid which you very well may be. You can understand it. Ya ready?" He looked around then smiled "Here goes. Pay attention. Give me your shit or I will kill you"
He moved to walk down the line making sure to look all of you who raised your faces in the eye "Today was career day. We invested a lot so you would know who I am and what I can do. You work for me now" you felt your mouth fall open in shock when he continued "You have shit. You give it to me. That's your job. Now I know that is a mighty big nasty pill to swallow but swallow it you must"
You met Michonnes eyes when Negan stopped in front of Rick again. She was scared "You rule the roost. You built something. You thought you were safe I get it but the word is out. You are not safe. Not even close. In fact you are pegged more so if you don't do what I want and what I want is half your shit and if that is too much you can make, find or steal more and it will all even out sooner or later"
He stepped back to look over all of you again and you tried to see Daryls face but he was looking down. Negan continued to walk back and forth down the line as he talked "This is your life now. The more you try to fight back the harder it'll be. So someone knocks on your door. You let us in. We own that door" he was in front of Daryl and you were finally able to see how pale your friend was.
Negan moved to be back in front of Rick "You try to stop us and we will knock it down. You understand?" He moved closer to Rick cupping his ear as if he couldn't hear when Rick refused to respond "What? No answer?"
He stepped back to address all of you again and by now his voice was grating I n everything inside of you. "You all didn't think you were gonna get through this without getting punished now did ya? I don't wanna kill you people. I want you to work for me. Can't do that if you're dead now can you?" You cut your eyes up hoping maybe there was someone you could at least insure the injured made it out alive until he added "But you killed a whole damn lot of my people. More than I'm comfortable with. And for that you're gonna pay. So now I'm gonna beat the holy hell out of one of you"
Your eyes flew from Rick to Glenn to Carl to Daryl then finally Maggie and Michonne. When you'd had no group they'd taken you in and had become so much more.
Negan held up his bat "This is Lucille and she is awesome" you took a breath preparing to get his attention on you should it come down to it. Then he said the words that you had already put together. This entire cat and mouse game was for him to pick who to kill.
He stared down Glenn then Maggie and Abraham before pointing to Carl "You've got one of our guns. You've got a whole bunch of our guns" he crouched down in front of Carl and you allowed yourself a moment of pride to see Carl was staring him down. "Shit kid. Lighten up. At least cry a little" "If you wanna kill someone get on with it. Hell I'm to the verge of volunteering to not hear you talk anymore" your mouth moved on its own over ridden by the aunt like bond you had with Carl.
Negan stood tucking the gun he'd taken from Carl into his waistband then walked over to be standing in front of you. Out the corner of your eye you saw the crowd of his men moving as someone worked their way through but you couldn't allow your attention to be split. Negan crouched in front of you and smiled "You are a god damn live wire ya know that? If looks could've killed from you I would've been dead the minute i stepped out. What's your name?" "Y/N" you all but growled and once again noticed his men moving around. He licked his lips slowly then nodded "Y/N darling it'd be too much of a waste to kill you"
He stood up and moved down the line and you suddenly had an urge to bathe. Someone holding basically everyone you cared about hostage flirting with you felt just dirty.
When he stopped in front of Maggie and said "Damn you look shitty. I should put you out of your misery now" Glenn hollered "NO" and jumped out of line only to be dragged back by the man with a half burnt face.
You fought every urge in your body to make a move towards Negan but you didn't for fear of harm becoming someone else. "Get him back in line" he spoke about Glenn then looked around "Don't any of you try that shit again. I will shut it the fuck down. It's an emotional time I get it so first one's free"
He looked at Rick who the gravity of the situation had appeared to have fully hit "Sucks don't it? The moment you realize you don't know shit" a realization hit Negan as he pointed to Carl "This your kid right?" Then laughed "This is definitely your kid"
You knew Negan was trying to force a reaction from Rick who broke and hollered "Stop this" he turned to Rick and shook his head "Do Not make me kill the little future serial killer. Don't make it easy on me. I gotta pick somebody. Everyone's at the table waiting for me to order"
He glanced back towards you and smiled "I got an idea" your felt your hands start to shake either from fear or adrenaline as he started "eeny meanie miney mo" pointing lucille at everyone in turn. You were praying for the first time in years. When he stopped in front of Abraham a small part of you felt a strange mixture of relief and guilt. "Looks like you're it"
He looked around before turning back to Abraham "You can breathe, you can blink, you can cry. Hell you're all gonna be doing that"
When he raised Lucille you screamed "NEGAN WAIT" He froze and looked back at you "Y/N would you like to address the class?" You met Carl's gaze then said "You want your pound of flesh. I get it. I've got plenty. Take it from me" he grinned in a way that was more predator than man "What are you offering darling?" You stood up ignoring hands grabbing at you "me for my people"
"Hell no" you heard someone say from behind you and froze in your tracks. You hadn't heard that voice since about six months before the world as you knew it came to a screeching halt. You turned slowly forgetting even Negan and the situation at hand momentarily. He looked almost the same as he had the day you said your goodbyes. His dark hair was a little shaggier but everything else was the same. He even still had that same chain peeking out his shirt collar, handsome enough it hurt and made you question your morals. "Brock?"
"Hey Doll" He spoke as if the world hadn't ended, as if he hadn't tore your heart out your chest and as if he wasn't on the crew of the men holding your people at gun point. "Hold up..Rumlow how do you know our little live wire here?" Negan asked his attention having been drawn from the prospect of bashing in Abrahams head to the drama clearly threatening to unfold.
"She was my girl before the world went to shit" his eyes never left yours as he spoke. Negan let out a low whistle which made you look back at him "Well shit..Y/N darling you're just full of surprises aren't ya?" Your head was spinning. All of this was simply too much. You could feel soo many eyes on you at that moment. Your entire group and half of Negans was staring you down. You knew his men were sizing you up while your group was probably just as thrown as you were.
"Well Brock seems your girl here has a set of brass ones. She's offered herself up to save her people" you spoke without thinking and flinched at your own voice when you said "I'm not his. He left me before the dead started walking. These people here? They're the reason I'm alive. My life is my bargaining chip and mine alone" you felt more than heard Brock move behind you and took a step to the side before he could touch you because at that moment you were certain just the barest brush of his hand would cause you to crumple and you had to stay strong.
"Rick what do you say? I mean I can kill Y/N but god damn a woman like that would be a fucking waste indeed or I can kill carrot top and take her as collateral to insure all of you hold up your side of the deal" dying you'd agreed to but there was no way you were being taken prisoner. You had seen what this group was capable of and from Brock being with them you knew he'd changed since he was yours.
Every one spoke at once. "I'm not a fucking trophy. You want me dead bash my head in but this ain't turning into capture the flag with me being the star role" you spoke staring Negan down you were sure it was a dying man's last hurrah but at least you wouldn't be on your knees. "He ain't fucking killing you Y/N" Brock sounding so protective over you made you fight the urge to close your eyes from the flood of emotions threatening to pull you under. You'd gladly trade it back in for the fear and disgust you'd simply been feeling.
"I ain't letting her trade her Iife for mine" you felt guilt flood through you for the moment of relief at Abraham being chosen over Carl or Glenn. "Kill me. These are my people. I'm supposed to protect them" Ricks voice was steady when he spoke but you could see the horror in Michonnes and Carls eyes.
"Enough of this shit" you all but growled and snatched the knife from the top of your boot seeing the flash of recognition in Brocks eyes. You put the sharp blade to your throat and leveled your gaze at Rick. "He wants one of us dead so I'll oblige him" Negan gave a sharp nod of his head and a shot rang out a half second before Brock was on you easily over powering you and getting the knife out your hand. You screamed in horror as Abrahams lifeless eyes stared across the clearing, a single bullet hole between his eyes.
Brock tucked your knife into his waist with one hand holding you against his chest despite your struggles. When your knees gave away he went down with you. "Here's the deal to all you shit heads take it or no one will leave here alive. Daryl and Y/N come with us. I like their spunk. All of you get to work and we will come to Alexandria next week for our first batch of goodies"
"Leave her and Daryl alone" Rick warned as was met with Negan pointing a gun at his head "Did I god damn stutter?" "Rick it's alright" Daryl finally spoke meeting your eyes and you nodded ceasing your fight against Brock. "We'll be ok" you managed and Negan smiled and clamped his hands together. "Well this has been a fruitful night indeed"
He looked at the guy with a half burnt face "Dwight take Daryl to the van" then looked at you "I'm guessing you'll wanna ride with Rumlow" you let Brock pull you to your feet and glanced back at Rick who barely nodded. They would fight somehow you knew they would fight.
Brock pulled you towards a dark blue truck and opened the drivers door "get in" you climbed in almost mechanically. Too much had happened in too short of a time from being hijacked by Negan and his so called saviors to the only man you'd ever truly loved coming back seemingly from the dead.
"Here" Brock speaking broke you out your own head and you realized he was holding your knife out hilt first. "Was yours first" your voice cracked as you took the ka-bar and slid in into place in your boot. He watched your movements before turning the engine over in the truck and starting to drive. A long silence stretched between the two of you befire he broke it by saying "Whyd you keep it?" You could feel tears prickling your eyes but didn't dare close them for fear of seeing Abrahams lifeless body staring back at you again. "It was the one thing I had left of you" you answered honestly feeling the tears flow down your face.
Brock opened his mouth as if to say something but closed it right back. You knew he was watching you with those eyes that were the color of whiskey. Just as warm and just as addictive. You had loved his eyes from the moment you met him. You leaned your head back staring up at the roof of his truck. After a moment his hand brushed against your leg and when you flinched away from him he let out a breath "I'm sorry about your friend but honestly I would've seen them all dead before you. I thought you were dead once already and I'm not reliving that"
"Too bad I wasn't" you replied and got a warped sense of accomplishment at seeing his jaw tighten at your words. "You'll be staying in my quarters. Was Negans idea to bring you because it's clear what those people mean to you and you to them but even if you hate me I'm going to protect you as much as I can"
There was so much you wanted to say. You wanted to scream, to cuss, to hit him hell even jump out the truck but if your presence bought time it was worth it and you'd be lying to yourself if you said you didn't still have some sort of love for the man sitting across from you even if he was a virtual stranger. "I won't fight" you said and saw him relax a bit until you added "for now"

Sleep cycle | Speculating how sleep would look in the system/grid
Who’s ready to sound really pretentious about beddy-bye?! I made a half joking post about God mandated bedtime before, but now I have a more concrete idea.
—
For one thing programs aren’t like us they don’t take something like food and convert it to energy. It’s absorbed straight and directed to whatever function they need/want. There’s Energy used to run but it can also be directed and transferred. An example being, Yori uses some of the energy Tron gave her to transform the apartment and herself. There’s purpose and intent behind the way they use energy. It’s what differentiates X from Y ( Thus not every energy transfer = sex )
They get power from just about everything they do and the world around them, if everything is running properly (when we see the ENCOM system and the grid they are not running as intended). Honestly I’d say a energy cycle is like a water cycle except transferred between programs, vehicles and their surroundings etc. (I don’t know a thing about computers this is all speculatory based on the world we see in the films,) I think the occasion where a program would need to drink energy or find a pure source would be rare, and it’s more of an extra boost. Like how the only setting outside of the cavern we see anyone drinking is the End of Line club, a bar. In both films it’s shown getting that excess/pure energy can pretty much get you similar to our idea of “being drunk”.

Anyways, what’s this have to do with sleeping? Well,
—
Sleep is a self-regulatory thing, just like people it’s saving that extra energy and sort of “recharging”, honestly with programs I think it’d be fun to take that literally. For programs it’d be storing the unused energy and absorbing more from their surroundings ->charging (again it gets more fun the more literally you take this). It’d be different depending on purpose and type, some may follow the “God mandated bedtime” whenever the computer shuts off or goes to sleep while others may not sleep at all! (Like how some constantly run in the background even with your stuff turned off). Additionally like drinking power/energy I think it could sort of be recreational? Someone said it before me but programs are their job- so the occasional rest might be thrilling? I don’t know.
Ok so now we’re getting into headcanon territory as opposed to me theorizing. Beds! What, where, how- or is it like a stand up thing in a tube. Looking at Yori’s apartment and the brief glimpses of furniture and how the Novel vaguely explains- furniture is Function> looks- even after Yori’s designs come through it’s sort of “a put a nice warm electric pillow on the lounge seat”.
I’d say it’s Ancient Greek very table/sofa like beds mixed with 80s contemporary meets liminal space. I think beds being table/slab like would make sense… charging table like a phone lmao. Some are completely content “Frankensteining it” but mattress, sheet, pillows are more for fun. (Yori would probably rather de-rez than not have it decorated, can you blame her? Her styles great.) basically computer lounges, conversation, pits etc

#I really haven’t seen others talk about sleep before? there’s been jokes but never like full discussions that I can find ?#If you find any send them my way#tron#tronblr#tron 1982#tron legacy#tron theory#tron headcanon#tron worldbuilding#tron lore#tron meta#meta#encom system#the grid#tron programs#anyways this was really fun please feel free to add to this as with anything I post!#god mandated bedtime#yori tron#80s sci fi#master control program#tron x yori#tron/yori

Aside from water, concrete is the most-used material in the world, with about 14 billion cubic metres being used every year. Of that, 40% of that is used to build places for people to live.
If you were to pour that amount of concrete to make a paving slab ten centimetres thick, it would cover all of England and about half of Wales. In the US, the same amount would cover the state of New York.
But concrete production releases carbon dioxide (CO₂), one of the greenhouse gases that drives climate change. About 90% of emissions associated with concrete come from the production of Portland cement – this fine grey powder, the part that binds concrete ingredients together, was named after its resemblence to stone from the Isle of Portland, Dorset. Portland cement accounts for 7%-8% of the world’s direct CO₂ emissions.
Production of a more sustainable and cost-effective low-carbon cement, often nicknamed “green” cement, is scaling up. A new plant next to an existing cement plant in Redding, California, will produce about 15,000 tonnes of low-carbon cement every year. This could be used to make about 50,000 cubic metres of concrete, which is less than 0.0004% of the world’s concrete production.
At Redding, materials technology company Fortera turns CO₂ captured during conventional cement production into ready-to-use green cement, a form of calcium carbonate. This could reduce carbon emissions of cement by 70% on a tonne-for-tonne basis, according to Fortera.
A concrete issue
People have been using concrete for more than 2,000 years, by blending gravel, sand, cement, water and, sometimes, synthetic chemicals. It’s used to create everything from paths and bridges to buildings and pipes.
Currently, the EU uses more than two tonnes of concrete per person per year – 325kg of that is cement. That’s equivalent to the amount of food the average European person eats in five months.
Cement production is an energy-intensive process and the greenhouse gas emissions are hard to cut. When limestone is heated in a kiln, often fuelled by coal, nearly half that limestone is lost as CO₂ emissions.
This happens because limestone (calcium carbonate) breaks down in heat to form clinker, a mix of calcium oxide and CO₂. For every tonne of ordinary Portland cement made, 0.6-0.9 tonnes of CO₂ are released into the atmosphere.
So many industries rely on this material. The main challenge facing the cement industry is reducing CO₂ emissions at the same time as meeting global demand.
So as well as developing new technologies, low-carbon cement production must be established on a global scale to meet infrastructural needs required of economically developing nations.
Low-carbon alternatives
Other ways to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete include using fly ash (a by-product from burning coal in power plants) or slag (a by-product from steel production) to partially replace Portland cement.
However, sources of these materials will reduce as other industries decarbonise. Over time, less iron ore will be used to produce steel as more steel is produced from recycling existing steel, so there’ll be less available slag.
Current strategies for decarbonising cement and concrete rely heavily on using carbon capture and storage technology to capture unavoidable process emissions from cement plants.
So low-carbon cement production doesn’t have to involve replacing every cement production plant in operation. Low-carbon cement facilities can be retrofitted to capture CO₂ emissions released from manufacturing conventional cement. Plants can also use that captured CO₂ within the cement that they are producing or as a product for the food and chemical industries.
In Norway, Heidelberg Materials are building an industrial-scale carbon capture and storage plant at a cement facility that could capture and store an estimated 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year – that’s half the existing plant’s emissions.
However, this technology has a high investment cost for cement producers. Captured CO₂ can be stored underground, but this requires specific geological characteristics that aren’t guaranteed at cement production sites.
Greenhouse gas emissions in the cement sector are regulated by the EU’s emissions trading system. This was established to make polluters pay for their greenhouse gas emissions, reduce emissions and generate revenues to finance the green transition.
This legislation has not significantly reduced carbon emissions in the cement sector over the past decade, according to the International Energy Agency, mainly due to free emissions allowances being granted to cement manufacturers.
Despite sustained healthy profits in the cement industry, there hasn’t been enough investment in the widespread uptake of cleaner technologies and the sustainable use of materials. Greater financial incentives could help whereby companies have to pay for emissions associated with the production of cement.
As a design engineer, I appreciate that material choice and good design play a major role in the sustainability credentials of construction. Before low-carbon cement technology becomes more widespread, engineers, designers and builders can use construction materials more efficiently and choose products with lower embodied carbon – that’s carbon emissions released during the life cycle of building materials, from extraction through to disposal.
This approach could easily save 20% in embodied emissions associated with new building design.
Some governments could move towards only permitting the use of low-carbon cement. In Ireland, the Climate Action Plan 2024 requires that low-carbon construction methods and low-carbon cement are specified where possible for government-procured or government-supported construction projects.
Could all cement in the future be low-carbon or “green”? How “low-carbon” is defined will play a very important part in how this is translated into practice in the industry.
Retrofitting technology to large-scale existing cement production plants will prove that it’s technically possible to produce low-carbon cement efficiently at scale. With the right incentives in place by governments and the construction sector, almost all cement produced around the world could be low-carbon.

Three and a half months ago...
The cold, bitter air of the night by the sea pierced its skin, not that the chill could sink its teeth into the Beast's undead flesh. Blackened, talon like fingers gripped the concrete slab facade of the Seaside Casino, Elysium to Kindred and home to Prince Novak of New Jersey. Its sole target. Its mind could think of nothing more than finding him, dethroning him, and ending him.
Somewhere inside of it, something small cried for it all to end. The thoughts of Zsasz's compelled face mixed with the lifeless and bloody Leo, both ghouls he had lost his control around. Guilt pressed at the bars of the mental cage he was locked within, but did little to free him from the clutches of his own beastiality.
Things were different this time, as it crawled its way up the side of the building, out of sight from the guards and ghouls patrolling the large casino grounds. His Beast had been calculating, conniving, unruly, and authoritarian in his previous bouts of frenzy, but since the diablerie of Knight Commander Cooper, his mind had...changed. He had taken in parts of the wicked hunter's soul, as well as his Strigoi powers, and now, his Beast was wicked and cruel -- vicious and unpredictable. He was hopeless in controlling it this time, despite the decades of experience he'd accrued in his unlife.
It followed the air ducts along the rooftop of the casino, remembering the layout of the building from the inside. Novak's suite and office was located at the upper back of the post-modern architecture, with full-length windows overlooking the bay leading into Gotham City. A rather risky layout, given his deathly allergy to sunlight.
It navigated through the venting, slipping past the last barricade of trained staff and Kindred. Peering through the ventilation grates, it spotted guards touching their ear pieces, then walking away from their posts. Its hearing picked up on Novak's voice through the small, ear-sized speakers.
With the guards gone, it dropped down onto the floor in front of the double doors leading into the suite. It was ready to burst through the doors by force, but found them unlocked.
Novak waited inside, smile wide and flanked on either side by a ghoul, both freshly drained and in stupors. "Ruru!" Novak greeted with excitement in his voice, standing up and opening his arms wide. "I knew you'd be by. Say, you look a little different." He put a curled finger to his lips, which had curved into an impish smirk. "Have you been working out?"
"Novak..." it growled, voice guttural and rough."You stripped me of my right to fight my enemies." Teeth and fangs were bared as it continued, "You locked me away. HUMILIATED ME..." Every single moment of insult and injury to Ruairí's pride and family replayed in its thoughts, lacquered with a tinge of bitterness. All the destruction, all the death at its hands -- Novak was at the root of it.
The ghouls both roused from their stupefaction, blinking the bleariness from their eyes and looking in its direction. As soon as they saw its claws and fangs, they began to scoot away from Novak in caution.
Novak's expression persisted, unwavering in its taunting confidence. "Guilty as charged, but all with the best intentions." He clasped his hands together in a feigned pose of innocence.
It struggled against the sudden push of Ruairí's stubborn curiosity, relenting and asking, "Why?"
"Tell me, all this chaos you've wrought... Doesn't it just make you feel...alive again? You can sense it... The horizons are opening up into new futures. This much fury, boiling you away inside, and with such new power! I couldn't look away even if I wanted to!" His eyes widened with elation and joy as he gestured widely in Ruairí's direction. "I mean, look at you! Isn't this enlightening? Getting to look at your putrid soul from the outside in? I'm eating it up! You can't believe how bored I was before you came along."
It growled out a bellowing roar of discontent, "Rrrrrrrghhh you did this...out of boredom...?"
Novak looked somewhat disappointed that it hadn't caught on sooner. "My, my. You hadn't guessed? Yes! I want a return to the good old days!" He tossed his arms out again, taking a few steps backward and toward the full length window behind him. "I want war. I want the blood of kindred and kine alike pooling in the streets! Think of it! Reshaping New Jersey again and again and again! Never a dull moment!" He tipped his head down into a devilish grin, yellow eyes peering at the Beast before him. "So come on, let's get this started. Or do you need me to go further? I could kill a ghoul or two. Or perhaps even track down that fling in Bristol."
The rage and fury of insult sank into its mind, clouding all else behind a wall of red, unbridled monstrosity. It tucked down into a crouch, ready to pounce, but he fought from within to try and stop it. It would give in. It would give Novak exactly what he wanted. It would start a war.
"Come on, Red Raven... Live up to your tales..." Novak said lowly, enticing and taunting. After a second more, he repeated, shouting out, "COME ON."
Feet pushed off the ground in a single, huge leap, and it tackled Novak at the waist. The two ghouls dove away, their screams merely distant echoes in its furious mind. Novak's back crashed through the glass of the windows, and the two of them burst out into the August night air, plummeting down into the waters below.
As they fell, lights of the night reflecting off the shards of glass all around them like stars, his mind began to clear, and he was at the forefront again. A memory came to mind. A note, written on a piece of paper and tucked against his chest for travel to the states from Bristol.
"You have a lovely soul, Ruairí Byrne. Try not to lose it..."
Present Day...
Two men emerged from a black coupe parked by the Gotham riverbank, dressed in nice suits and wearing sunglasses in the already dark night. "Damn. Never thought we'd be doin' Tony," the one in blue said with a scoff.
"Right?" replied the one in maroon, "Seemed like he'd fit right in. But no one steals from the Black Mask." He popped the trunk, where a lumpy rolled up rug had been bound with nylon rope and stuffed.
"Good riddance."
They each took a hold of one end of the rug, waddling their way to the edge of the water. "The current's shit tonight!" Maroon grumbled out in exertion.
"Well it's a good thing no one's around. Tide'll grab him by mornin. Hurry up!" They swung the carpet like a long, heavy length of rope, then tossed it into the waters with an unceremonious sploosh. "Goodnight, ya son of a bitch." Blue panted, resting his hands against his knees. "Why'd he have to be such a fat fuck, ey Pau--" As he stood and looked to where Maroon had been, there was nothing but a loafer in the mud. "... Pauly?"
Two sets of black talons gripped around Blue's face, pulling him back into the shrubs with a scream that cut abruptly off into silence.
Two fresh meals, now nearly empty and unconscious at his feet. It seemed as though the night welcomed him back with open arms.

Cement Selection Made Easy in Tamil Nadu
Cement is an essential material for construction, and choosing the right type is important for the quality and durability of your building. In Tamil Nadu, there are several types of cement available. Here’s a simple guide to help you pick the right one for your project.
Types of Cement
1.Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) This is the most common type of cement used for general construction like buildings and roads. It comes in two grades: 43 and 53. Grade 53 is stronger and used for bigger projects.
2.Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) PPC contains extra materials like fly ash, making it more eco-friendly and water-resistant. It’s good for areas with high humidity or coastal regions in Tamil Nadu.
3.Rapid Hardening Cement (RHC) This cement sets quickly and is used for projects that need to be completed fast, like repairs or temporary structures.
4.Sulphate Resisting Cement (SRC) SRC is used for constructions in areas where the soil or water has high levels of sulphates. It’s good for foundations or buildings in places with tough water conditions.
5.White Cement White cement is mainly used for decorative purposes, like in floors or decorative walls.
Things to Keep in Mind When Choosing Cement
•Climate: Tamil Nadu’s hot and humid weather needs cement that can handle moisture. PPC and SRC are good for coastal areas.
•Type of Project: For regular buildings, OPC or PPC works well. For special conditions, like chemical exposure, SRC is a better choice.
•Cost: Higher-quality cement might cost more but can save money in the long run due to better durability.
•Trusted Brands: Popular brands like UltraTech, Ramco, and India Cements offer reliable products.
Tips for Buying Cement
•Buy from Trusted Dealers: Always purchase cement from authorized dealers to avoid fake products.
•Storage: Cement should be stored in a dry place. Ensure the bags are not damaged, as moisture can weaken it.
•Check the Date: Cement can go bad over time. Always check the manufacturing date on the bag.
Conclusion Choosing the right cement in Tamil Nadu is simple once you know the types available and the specific needs of your project. By considering the climate, project type, and cost, you can select the best cement to ensure a strong and durable construction.

This article will explore what to consider when sourcing concrete locally, the types of concrete mixes available, how location affects delivery logistics, the role of ready mix in construction efficiency, and how to plan for your order. If you're aiming to avoid delays and stay on budget, this guide will help you make informed decisions around your concrete supply needs.
Why Local Concrete Supply Matters
Using a local concrete supplier has practical and performance-based advantages. Because concrete begins to set as soon as it's mixed, distance from the batching plant to your job site plays a huge role in product quality. The closer the supplier, the more control you have over concrete consistency and the less likely you are to experience delays or setting issues during placement.
Local suppliers also tend to understand the environmental conditions and typical project requirements for the area. This means they’re more familiar with temperature fluctuations, soil types, and regional building codes. That local knowledge can save time and reduce risk on a project.
Beyond convenience, proximity often results in lower delivery fees and better responsiveness in case of schedule changes or order adjustments. When you need a job done right, “concrete supply near me” becomes more than a search—it becomes a strategic step toward better results.
Types of Concrete and What to Ask For
Concrete isn’t a one-size-fits-all material. There are numerous types of mixes formulated to meet different construction goals. When working with a local concrete supply source, it’s helpful to know the basics of what’s available:
Standard Ready Mix: This is the most common type used in sidewalks, driveways, and general construction. It typically includes a blend of cement, aggregates, and water in a standard ratio.
High-Strength Concrete: Designed for structural applications like bridges or heavy-load bearing columns. These mixes feature a higher cement content and possibly admixtures for strength or rapid curing.
Fiber-Reinforced Concrete: Used to reduce cracking and improve durability. Fibers can be synthetic or steel and are mixed directly into the batch.
Flowable Fill: A self-leveling, low-strength mix used for backfilling trenches or abandoned underground structures. It flows easily and requires no compaction.
Stamped or Decorative Concrete Mixes: These are often made with specific aggregate blends or color additives to accommodate finishing processes.
Air-Entrained Concrete: Particularly important in colder climates, this mix includes tiny air bubbles to help concrete withstand freeze-thaw cycles without cracking.
Understanding your project's specific needs helps you choose the right mix—and asking the right questions ensures your supplier delivers exactly what your job requires.
The Importance of Mix Design and Consistency
One of the biggest variables in concrete performance is the mix design. A precise balance of cement, water, and aggregate determines not just the strength but the workability and curing characteristics of your concrete.
When ordering from a concrete supply near me, it’s smart to inquire about how the mix is batched and whether the plant follows industry standards like ASTM C94, which governs ready-mixed concrete.
Inconsistent mixes can lead to delays, structural problems, and even failed inspections. A reputable local supplier should provide mix design sheets and test data upon request. Don’t hesitate to ask about how quality control is handled, including on-site slump testing, temperature monitoring, and batch tracking.
Logistics: How Location Affects Delivery and Pour Timing
Concrete has a limited working time. Depending on ambient temperature and additives used, the time between mixing and final placement typically ranges between 60 to 90 minutes. After that, the concrete begins to lose its plasticity and can no longer be worked or finished effectively.
That’s why sourcing from a nearby concrete plant is critical. Long travel distances can result in cold joints, surface defects, or structural inconsistencies. If traffic or access routes are a concern in your area, coordinate with your supplier about delivery windows and scheduling.
Local knowledge also plays into logistics. A supplier familiar with nearby job sites may have insight into optimal delivery routes, peak traffic hours, and site-specific access limitations. This helps ensure timely pours and prevents costly delays.
Why Ready Mix Matters for Jobsite Efficiency
Ready-mixed concrete is batched at a central plant and delivered to job sites in rotating drum trucks. This method offers better consistency, efficiency, and reduced labor compared to mixing on site.
When sourcing concrete supply near me, working with a supplier that provides reliable ready mix options can significantly streamline your workflow. There’s no need for storage of raw materials, manual mixing, or guesswork in achieving the correct ratios. Instead, every batch arrives ready to pour, reducing prep time and allowing contractors to focus on placement and finishing.
Ready mix also enables more complex pours, such as multi-truck placements for large slabs or fast-setting mixes for time-sensitive repairs. Your supplier can tailor batch sizes and mix characteristics to match your timeline and job site conditions.
What to Know About Ordering Concrete
Ordering concrete involves more than just requesting a truckload. Suppliers will want to know the volume you need, measured in cubic yards, as well as details like:
Type of mix and strength requirement (e.g., 4000 PSI)
Placement method (wheelbarrow, pump, chute)
Pour location and access restrictions
Preferred delivery time and any backup dates
Weather forecast and jobsite readiness
Ordering too little concrete can be more costly than ordering too much. A common industry rule is to order about 10% more than your calculated volume to account for over-excavation, spill, or waste.
It’s also important to confirm cancellation or rescheduling policies in case weather or site issues delay your project. A local supplier should be able to adapt quickly and work with your schedule as conditions evolve.
Curing and Aftercare: A Final Consideration
Even the highest quality concrete won't meet its full potential without proper curing. Curing is the process of maintaining adequate moisture and temperature conditions to allow the concrete to reach its designed strength.
Ask your local supplier about curing guidelines for the specific mix you've chosen. Some mixes may benefit from water curing, while others might require curing compounds or protective coverings. Poor curing can lead to cracks, surface dusting, or low compressive strength.
Your supplier may also have recommendations based on seasonal conditions, such as how to cure concrete in freezing temperatures or how to prevent rapid evaporation in hot climates.
Conclusion: Plan Smart with Local Concrete Supply
The next time you search for “concrete supply near me,” remember that it's more than a matter of convenience—it’s a decision that affects quality, timing, and the overall success of your project. From selecting the right mix to understanding logistics, working with a knowledgeable, local source ensures you get concrete that performs as expected and helps you stay on schedule and on budget.
Concrete might be the foundation of your construction plans, but informed decisions around supply are what set strong projects apart. By asking smart questions and understanding what goes into the mix, you position yourself—and your crew—for success every time the trucks roll in.
