Tbh I’m pretty burnt out on the game itself. The artwork still inspires me from time to time, I still love the aesthetic and atmosphere . I think about coming back to it every now and then, but I’m not as attached to it as I used to be. Usually my interests cycle back around so it’s probably a matter of time before I have the itch to pick it back up. For now I’m not too motivated to return to it.

I still have all the merch I’ve purchased, won, and created, but it’s all boxed up right now. Even if my leave from the fandom ends up permanent, I don’t have the heart to resell it or throw it out. I also like to look back at my old fanart and reread my fanfics. It still has a little spot in my heart ☺️

I think a big factor in what turned me away from it was the way one of the redhook managers treated a fan artist on discord a while back, and the way no one really batted an eye or cared. It was jarring compared to how the redhook team usually interacts with fans, it all felt fake and performative after that so I kind of don’t really care about the studio as a whole anymore. I’ve long since left the official discord server.

I miss the small fanmade servers, it got overwhelming trying to keep up though, I don’t really do well in group conversations. As fun as it was, I got anxious way too easily. I still do in group chats and stuff like that. The community as a whole was actually one of the best ones I’ve been apart of. Wasn’t without its flaws by any means, but I’ve never seen one that positive and supportive before.

It’s had a huge impact in my interests, it’s a big reason I got into Elden Ring and Bloodborne. (I did play dark souls way before DD, but it just didn’t click back then. I was ungrateful.) I always liked dark fantasy settings, it just amped it up. It introduced me to cosmic horror too, I read lots of Lovecraft after discovering the game. Before, I had a vague idea of what it was, but didn’t have any interest in it until then.

It also got me to adore certain designs, like I used to not bat an eye at a character in a suit of armor. Now I will fall to my knees at the sight of just a helmet! Stuff like bandage wraps, weathered clothing, wrinkles, scars, cracked/broken surfaces, flaws in general, and so much more has grown on me. I appreciate it a lot for influencing my taste so much.

I’m still fond of the game itself despite not wanting to play it anymore. I’d say my feelings towards it is mostly positive. It was definitely an experience! Sorry for going on so many tangents, I didn’t mean for this to be as long as it is 😅

Bosco Sodi’s outdoor sculpture installation, Perfect Bodies, presented by Pioneer Works, was on view in Redhook, Brooklyn from October 2020 until December 2020.

Sited on a once teeming commercial concrete parking lot two blocks south of Pioneer Works, Perfect Bodies speaks to, in artist Bosco Sodi’s words, “silence, contemplation and the passing of time—the small things in life and our relationship with the earth.” The installation consists of large-scale clay spheres and cubes made from local clay fired in the artist’s studio in Oaxaca, Mexico, which made the long journey by road across the Mexico-US border to Red Hook. A longtime resident of the neighborhood—itself named after the tone of its own clay soil—Sodi is known for his use of raw and organic materials to create textured paintings and objects.

Sodi’s ongoing dialogue with nature and landscape, shaped by his interests in Japanese aesthetics and Abstract Expression, puts himself in the lineage of both Arte Povera and Land Art—two post-war movements which emphasized, respectively, radically simple materials and an integral relationship between art and earth. As Spanish author Juan Manuel Bonet remarked in the artist’s 2020 eponymous monograph, his three dimensional works reconcile an interest in minimalism with the practices of Mexican heritage. On this topic, curator Dakin Hart further writes: “At his place in Oaxaca, Sodi hand forms large geometric sculptures from clay and fires them in a makeshift kiln on the beach. Cuboids in different formats recall the scale and how-did-they-do-that-craft of cyclopean architecture across the ancient world. While spheroids, each formed by eye in a landscape of unbelievable things, might be the petrified remnants—or organic vanguard—of a Jurassic invasion. The past seeding itself into the present, a starting point for nature’s revenge.”

Currently, as part of Art Biennale 2022, Fondazione dell’Albero d’Oro is showing What Goes Around Comes Around at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, in Venice, Italy, until November 27th, 2022.  The art installation will include his paintings as well as recent sculptures.

RedHook announced the details of their debut EP Bad Decisions, as well as released its title track. The highly-anticipated release is scheduled to drop on April 23.

Green Day released a new song titled “Here Comes The Shock,” their first new original material in just over a year. Fans caught a first glimpse of the song during the NHL Outdoors event this past Saturday.

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park released a new single titled “Happy Endings,” featuring Iann Dior and UPSAHL. The trio later caught up by chatting on the former artist’s Twitch channel.

Senses Fail released a scathing new track titled “Lush Rimbaugh,” their first new music since 2018. The release follows a split Misfits covers EP with Saves the Day called Through Being Ghoul.

Chase Atlantic shared another song from their upcoming album Beauty in Death titled “Empty.” The album, which features the previous single “Slide,” is set for release on March 5 via Fearless Records.

Along with the release of his new album Trauma Factory, nothing,nowhere. dropped a new music video for the song “Upside Down.” The video follows a short documentary about the process of assembling the record.

Health released a remix of Rise Against’s new track “Broken Dreams, Inc.” The song was originally recorded for the soundtrack of DC's Dark Nights: Death Metal series.

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

You Me at Six released footage of them playing their track “Glasgow” live from Abbey Studios with the Wired Strings Orchestra. The album of which the song is off of, Suckapunch, is out now via Underdog/AWAL Records.

Evanescence made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing their new song “Wasted on You.” The band is gearing up to release their album The Bitter Truth on March 26.

Funeral for a Friend have rescheduled their upcoming UK shows to 2022. Kicking off in Cardiff and ending in London, the tour will have the band playing tracks from their first three albums.

Yungblud's version of the David Bowie track “Life on Mars” was played as the rover Perseverance touched down on the surface. The song had been offered to NASA by the late singer’s estate.

The Pretty Reckless’ new album Death by Rock and Roll debuted at No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart. The record was also the most downloaded album in the country over the course of its first weekend out in the world.
