Kinda interesting that the extrapolation they are discussing is a form of bad, lazy cognition. If you put 0.1 pico seconds of thought into it, it would seem very obvious that there must be high quality video essays simply because creative people exist, and creative people are often creative in every possible way.
It’s the same as people who say ‘all jazz is bad’, they are just being intellectually lazy and stereotyping as a result. You can of course not like Jazz music, that’s a matter of subjective taste, but to call it bad is to make an objective claim that is objectively lazy and bad.
Not hating people who don’t like video essays, different formats exist for different audiences, but they should never make someone feel inferior for appreciating video essays by denigrating the format ignorantly. That’s lazy and bad.
Discussing video essays is annoying bc some people see the existence of some bad, lazy video essays, and extrapolate that the entire genre does nothing with being video and is all just people turning text into videos so they can show you ads or whatever. Which just isn't the case

Quote
When we describe pleasure, or pain, or reflective endorsement or rejection from outside of consciousness, third-personally, they are merely facts. It is in the standpoint created by consciousness, when you are in pain, or find yourself obligated, that value lives. We have reasons in the way we have experiences and sensations, not as the possession of mental entities, but as a fact about what it is like to be conscious, about what it is like to be us. It is because the standpoint created by consciousness can be made public by language or sympathy that reasons and values can be shared. But that kind of publicity is still inside the reflective standpoint. From outside of that standpoint, we can recognize the fact of value, but we cannot recognize value itself.
