Thinking about how Hans wants so badly to save Henry, as if he hasn’t done it numerous times, as if he’s in some kind of debt rather than the silent agreement they do have- to save each other over and over, no matter what.

Thinking about how most of the times when Henry saves Hans it’s a premeditated move, requiring planning, skill, smart thinking. How Henry’s efforts are often visible to Hans, how cared for they make him feel, while simultaneously making him feel like a liability. Hans is supposed to be proving himself, and once again, he’s being rescued by Henry in some kind of spectacle. It also doesn’t help that a lot of these efforts paint Henry in a knightly, heroic light. The chivalrous final stand vs Zizka, rescuing him from the castle where he’s being held, untying him from an enemy encampment, pausing an execution before a crowd of people with evidence of Hans’ nobility. They’re big events, and they have time to settle upon Hans. To make each one of them really felt.

Conversely, Hans often saves Henry in the heat of the moment. I think this says so much about Hans and where his priorities lay, how he saves Henry as if by instinct, how he continually binds their fates together. But because of the nature of these events, he often doesn’t have time to dwell on them, to see them for the incredibly brave decisions they are. In the woods at the Nebakov ambush AND the prologue ambush, Hans stays by Henry’s side, pulls him to safety even at risk to his own life. He gets seriously injured for Henry at Bozhena’s home, it’s such a heroic move, but in getting injured himself there’s nothing to be gained, no witnesses beyond outcasts.

Not that this necessarily matters to them. They both save each other because of the deep care they hold for each other. But the risks to Henry’s life are far greater- Hans is a ransom target, but Henry wouldn’t be granted such mercy. Hans has to act fast to save him, and he does! He does exactly what he needs to do to keep Henry alive, just as heroic and brave as Henry, but without the recognition, even on a personal level. He doesn’t know just how much he does for Henry.

All I’m saying is maybe giving Sam and John these matching ring sets is setting up for a dlc where they kiss or the next game where Sam is the protag and John the love interest nO IM NOT DELUSIONAL

(jadder anon) aah i'm so glad i'm not the only one who noticed it! i know it probably wasn't intentional on warhorse's part, but it does make me wonder if hans dying in a future game is on the devs' table. didn't the real life jan die young? it would make a really delicious parallel for sure.

Oh I've talked about this (potential storylines for KCD3) a bunch actually!! He doesn't die until 1419 when he, historically speaking, would have been 37. Right now my assumption is that Warhorse will stick with their current trajectory of keeping us in 1403 / picking up where KCD2 leaves off. If they did skip ahead to 16 years in the future not only would Hanush and Radzig and several others already be dead, they'd kind of be shooting themselves in the foot in terms of really just eliminating the idea of a sequel.

God's Everlasting Promise: Strength and Comfort for a Lifetime

Have you ever felt like you're facing a challenge that's too big to overcome? Maybe you're struggling with a difficult decision or dealing with a painful situation that seems to have no end in sight. Whatever your struggle may be, there is hope. In Isaiah 46:4, God makes a promise to His people that is just as relevant today as when it was first written. He promises to be with us, to support us, and to give us the strength and courage we need to overcome any obstacle.

One of the most amazing things about God is that He is both our Creator and Sustainer. He brought us into existence and continues to support us every step of the way. This means that we can trust in His power and wisdom, knowing He has a plan for our lives that is bigger and better than anything we could ever imagine. His love and faithfulness never waver, and we can rely on His steadfast presence to give us the strength and courage we need to face whatever challenges come our way.

But God's promise goes even further than that. He promises to deliver and rescue us, bringing hope and strength to keep moving forward even when things seem darkest. This promise has been fulfilled time and time again throughout history, as God has delivered His people from slavery, oppression, and all manner of danger. And it's a promise that He still fulfills today as He works in the lives of His people to bring them hope, healing, and restoration.

So what does this mean for us? It means we can entrust our lives to God, knowing He will never leave or forsake us. It means that we can trust in His guidance and wisdom, knowing He will lead us through every challenge and bless us with His abundant grace. And it means that we can face whatever comes our way with confidence and courage, knowing that God is always with us.

As you face the challenges of your own life, remember God's everlasting promise. Remember that He is your Creator, Sustainer, Rock, and Redeemer. And remember that He will always be with you to support you, guide you, and give you the strength and courage you need to overcome any obstacle. Will you entrust your life to Him today and see the amazing things that He can do?

IT STARTED WITH THE CAT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

In which• The Deliverer of Amphoreus is suddenly transported to your home as a cat.

It’s been almost a month since Phainon had been your cat. So far, his feline life has been nothing but a breeze. If you ask him about his thoughts about living as a cat, he would say it isn’t that bad.

But for the love of Kephale, kindle change his name or he’ll cry. Please. *sad cat noises*

He was fed when he’s hungry, you give him cuddles and pets that at this point he may justify that he is touch starved (it’s is favorite thing to be honest, specially if you rub the back of his ears and chin, ah heaven), he can even feel how to be truly carefree (no responsibilities and prophecy) and then there’s you.

Frankly speaking, back in Amphoreus, no matter how carefree we opted to be, his fellow Chrysos Heirs knew he isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Beneath his carefree facade lays a dormant man of revenge.

He was revered as the Deliverer, the Symbol of Hope and the future Leader of the Flame Chase journey, roles that were forcefully given to him after the destruction of his village. The expectations that became responsibilities and responsibilities turned into burdens, Phainon had been carrying them since he was named as a Chrysos Heir.

He was to become a hero destined to save the world and yet he only longed for life to be at peace.

Maybe this is why he now felt reluctant to leave. He may have a prophecy waiting, but after having to experience this life once more, a surreal dream he wished to never wake up.

It’s really hard to leave this life he had with you. A simple and peaceful life he had longed for. But if he really has to choose between being a cat or hero, he would rather choose to be a cat and stay with you. And if it comes to worse, maybe he’ll just bring you with him. Maybe this time around you’ll be the cat.

With these thoughts in mind, he ventured outside your house, leaving an hour earlier than he used to, hoping that when he returns, he would have a clearer mind. After all, he’s not the type of person who likes to think hard and deep, lest he got lost in thoughts once more.

Get some fresh air, clear his mind and go home.

That was the plan. Foolproof. No detours, buts or ifs.

Imagine his surprise when he saw a fluffy dog brawling against 3 dogs that are way larger than itself on his way home.

He hasn’t seen that dog before. It doesn’t look like a stray either and was rather clean and well groomed, on contrast from what he’ve normally seen from the strays in the neighborhood.

As much as he wanted to help, Phainon isn’t like an ordinary looking cat. He looks majestic, ok? Can’t you see this fur? He and you spent hours grooming it!

So he decided to leave it alone. Unlike before where he can fight easily, this current form isn’t that suitable. Yes, he maybe can fight, after all, he still has claws, but he doesn’t want to worry or implicate you.

He was supposed to leave but he never expected that he could understand the fluffy doggie. Unlike the normal barks or meows from the dogs and cats he’ve met, what he heard just now was a full understandable human sentence.

“HKS. Where am I?! Answer me you mutts!” Shouted by the only Prince he could think of.

No doubt about it. Change of plans then. He still has a Prince to rescue. Pity to think he’ll have to go home late. But alas, Mydei must’ve been confused from the sudden events.

Cue: *high pitched barks from our angry pomeranian*

Thinking about Hans putting his life on the line for Henry. Henry, whose purpose is to serve Hans, who is seen as a lesser in society. Yet, time and time again, Hans ties their fates together.

Even in the prologue, where they’re running from the enemy, they’re separated multiple times. I expected Hans to disappear, it makes the mechanics easier for the gaming side of things if anything else. But he constantly waited, went back into danger, just to find Henry. He dragged an injured and delirious Henry through the woods! Putting himself in greater danger! Because Henry has saved him many times, and Hans will do the same for him, because their relationship is far beyond duty.

This crops up frequently- Hans is a nobleman, he’s more valuable alive than dead, and still he throws his lot in with Henry whenever he can. Like in Nebakov, when Henry is angry and insistent that he won’t back down from a fight that they can’t possibly win, Hans takes a moment to register that then he goads the enemy, cementing their places (and most likely their graves) when they weren’t truly allied with Zizka yet.

Even at the end of the game, as soon as Henry puts himself forward for the suicide mission, Hans steps in to join him. Only, he can’t this time, his status prevents him from dying at Henry’s side. Instead they are to be separated, for Hans to wither and wonder if Henry still draws breath. After everything they’ve survived together, that adds insult to injury.

Because at the end of the day, Hans himself says he’s not sure if he can go on without Henry. And he’s trying his hardest to avoid having to find out.

i've been thinking a lot about the way kingdom come: deliverance ii structures its romances. it's interesting, in the sense that they all feel bespoke - short fling or long term or in-between, there's no hard and fast system that applies to all characters. most games with romances stick to a rhythm: you have the initial flirtation options, then there's a companion quest (or multiple companion quests), then you are 'locked in', and finally you get a scene at the end.

anyway, spoilers under the cut.

the romance with katherine is the closest to that model. which makes sense! she's a traumatized person who needs to be convinced henry is reliable, and she also doesn't know him, so the flirting is apt. it stretches across the entire game, because trust-building takes time and action (sidequests), and much like the romance with hans, a lot of the 'romance' moments hinge on non-romance moments you have with her throughout the story. romance in this game is part of a continuum of human interactions; it's something you can lean into if you want, not a reward toggle.

rosa's romance lasts while rosa is plot-relevant, and is contingent on you flirting with her and giving her the feeling that she and her capabilities are respected. you have to spend time with her and back her up, basically. then there's the various flings, which are all context-dependent. and theresa, which is technically a full-blown romance even if she's only on-screen for five seconds, because henry makes it a romance by bringing her up and speaking of their time together - in that version of the story, she's often on his mind. (but, like the other romances, you have to actively bring her up in the epilogue yourself; the game doesn't hand you "here's your reward romance content")

which leaves us with some interesting implications re: hans and henry. there are, as far as i've been able to find, five heart-icon dialogue interactions between them in the game, one of which is The Big Scene. none of the four romance dialogue options before that are flirty. the flirting happens outside of that, in all the non-romance sections, in ways that can be brushed off as bros-being-bros if you're into that. in fact i'd say most of the development that makes the romance possible happens in the non-romance sections.

the romance choices just let you lean in a little further.

the first romance dialogue comes at the midway point; it's hans apologizing for being a dick and henry can then respond to say it's fine, hans can always rely on him no matter how he behaves, he's the closest friend henry has. the second comes at maleshov, right after henry has staged an elaborate rescue for hans, and it's about henry reassuring a panicking hans that he will always be there for him and they can handle any situation together. the third romance dialogue comes halfway through the italian job and is missable - it's henry telling hans he's missed spending time with him, and repeating that when hans tries to joke it off as a 'yes we should go wenching again soon' kind of deal. finally, the fourth is shortly afterward, with henry worried about hans's claustrophobia, and stating, 'I care about you. maybe more than you know.'

hans brushes all of these things off, it seems like, but then by the Big Scene it's obvious he's been thinking about them a lot. and then hans is the one who makes a move, not henry (though you have to pick the option to trigger it). notably, even if you end the romance scene early by leaving or fumbling the moment, hans makes it clear he thought henry had feelings for him.

so if the difference between non-romanced and romanced katherine is flirting + her feeling she can trust and rely on henry, and the difference between non-romanced and romanced rosa is flirting + her feeling respected by henry, what's the difference between non-romanced and romanced hans? well. it's henry being earnest about his feelings, and going out of his way to make it clear that he cares about and values hans above everything else.

and that, maybe, in this time of extreme trial, he's safe to make this move on.

the extended implication of that is that hans had romantic feelings for henry all along, of some sort or another. he just doesn't address them in a non-romanced path because he doesn't feel confident to abandon plausible deniability and leave the safe, charged ambiguity between him and henry. not outwardly. possibly also not inwardly.

anyway, it's interesting. it also means that the entire game is technically the hans/henry romance arc. and i think that's neat.

You know, the obvious answer here is the wedding. Though I must admit I don't want that. The more I think about it, the more I really do want the whole "scrap the wedding, we're going to Vienna to rescue the king" KCD3 plot of all of our dreams.

That said, I do think it would make for a stand-up DLC just given all the Tasks that go into a wedding. Both Henry and Godwin would no doubt be playing gopher in every possible way during such an event. Even bearing in mind that medieval weddings were Very Different from modern weddings, there's still a fair amount of overlap. Henry, go make sure the kitchens have enough food. Godwin, go check that the bride's finery has been watched. Henry, go find the groom and bring him back / keep him from running away again, etc.

(Don't do it, Henry!!! Go kiss him instead and then abduct him like they used to do with brides!!!)

What I would personally love in terms of a Hansry DLC would probably actually not be post-game content (since I doubt they'll give us a 5-hour cinematic of all the different ways in which Hansry are going to fuck during their "time off" and all the different surfaces they're going to fuck on, much as all of us would no doubt eat that shit right up). My ideal Hansry DLC would actually be closer to A Woman's Lot... but this time, it's about Hans.

There is a fair amount of time that we spend apart from Hans in KCD2. Imagine having to help him figure out how to survive after splitting from Henry and entering their divorce arc, getting into poaching, finding the necessary tools, fucking getting himself clothes... then, him traipsing all over the wedding and constantly running into Henry left and right and having to reign in his jealousy. Fast-forward to after Nebakov and suddenly you have him at Maleshov, trying to deal with things there.

The best parts would be him dealing with his feelings about the betrothal, Hans' quest to steal the bow, and then making up Karolina the second to try and cover for the fact that he's been doing little more than reading gay poetry and jerking off. There could even be a brief Catholic Guilt stint in the Suchdol chapel before he decides to kiss Henry!!! I mean my gay ass would be all fucking about that!!!

Regardless of the subject material though, I doubt they'd introduce new mechanics. New outfits... you know, it would be cool if we could design our own, much like how we can now paint our shields. Would be amazing if we could don ourselves in gear like this just from head to toe, you know?? That said, if it was a wedding DLC, then I do think more hair options and clothing options would be more or less a requirement.

a/n: this idea has been in my head for WEEKS.

The mixture of winter air and pure exhaustion crept into Sakusa’s bones, chilling him to the core. He let out a weary sigh, grateful for his mask providing a little warmth for his face.

Despite being known as one of the best and most powerful players in the volleyball world, there were rare moments where his mind was his most formidable opponent; where the small monsters of insecurity and fatigue ate away at his psyche until there was nothing left. His usual stamina that he’d always been praised for was gone—his body now in autopilot mode and running low on fumes. Weighing him down like one-ton bricks, lethargy flooded his being and caused all his thoughts to flatline, devoid of energy. 

As he opened the door to his apartment, nothing seemed more appealing to him than a shower and twelve hours of sleep. However, his body barely even had the strength to walk himself through the doorway and set his bag down, let alone stay awake long enough to shower, force himself to eat, and walk to his room for bed.

“‘Omi?” your sweet voice called from the kitchen. His half-lidded eyes fluttered closed with a sigh of relief, his body feeling slightly recharged just from knowing you were there. 

He trudged into the kitchen and leaned his head against the doorway as he watched you cook with your back to him. He observed how your hips casually swayed in time with the soft music playing in the background, listened to how you hummed along to your favorite parts. Focusing on you breathed some life back into his body, especially after such long and arduous days apart from you. 

You eventually looked back, sensing Sakusa’s presence in the kitchen. “Long week?”

All he did was nod with drooping eyes, barely registering that you removed his mask. “You’re freezing, ‘Omi,” you gently chided, slipping your hands into his to warm them up. Looking into his onyx eyes, you saw something foreign swirling within them, and you reached up to his face, running a gentle thumb over his cheek.

“What’s going on?” you asked with a voice barely above a whisper, as if you’d scare him away if you spoke any louder, “You look so troubled.”

He quietly nuzzled his head into the crook of your neck, his hands moving around your body to bring you close. The sudden physical affection was unlike Sakusa, but you welcomed it all the same. He reveled in your embrace; your arms were his sanctuary, always open to rescue him from himself.

“I’m so tired,” Sakusa’s words slurred into your skin, unfamiliar with feeling so raw, so vulnerable, “of everything.”

And that was what led him to now: him, standing undressed as you drew a bath.

The hot water slowly brought relief to his aching muscles and frigid bones as he slowly immersed himself in the bathtub. He let out a sigh, his head dropping back as he allowed himself to finally let go of the week’s stresses. You sat beside him, squeezing out a generous amount of his shampoo. He opened one eye, silently asking what you were doing.

“Please, let me take care of you,” you requested, moving to kneel behind him, and he gave a small nod.

With the scent of lavender flooding his senses and the feeling of your hands in his curls, Sakusa’s mind went silent once again, but now for a much different reason. The serenity of your touch, the comfort of your presence, was his salvation. His body was no longer cold, like a corpse, but felt warm, thawing from the rays of sunshine that beamed from your soul. 

Your fingers slowly massaged his scalp, making sure to do your best to knead his troubles away. You leaned in to the shell of his ear, whispering, “Is this okay?” He gave another small nod in response, his eyes now fully closed.

With a small smile, you continued washing his hair for several minutes longer, hoping your actions were at least a little relaxing. 

But you didn’t see how you practically revived Sakusa’s frozen heart, how you brought color back into his face. You made him feel at peace, leading him to believe that true love was real—that love was meant for him too.

What on earth did he do to deserve you?

“Thank you,” he whispered, slowly surrendering to sleep, “I love you.” His eyelids were so heavy, his words barely coherent. He didn’t even realize he said it: those three powerful words. 

As you rinsed out his hair, you couldn’t fight off the smile that made your face hurt or the blush that made your cheeks burn scarlet. “C’mon, let’s get you to bed.”

While snuggling in your shared bed, Sakusa relished the heat of your body against his. With a soft gaze, you looked up and took his face in your hands. You leaned in, your lips grazing his forehead: one kiss on each freckle. Breathing in his lavender scent, you contentedly sighed, “I love you too, ‘Omi. Goodnight.”

Sakusa knew that no matter what freezing darkness tried to overwhelm him, you—his dayspring—would always be there to shine his way back home.
