Since Asajj Ventress appeared in recent media and is set to appear in future shows and Star Wars content, I've seen a lot of people starting to read Dark Disciple. but besides that book, there are so many stories featuring Asajj over her 22 years of existence. So if you are looking for some recommendations and entry points to Asajj outside of the TV shows, here are some recommendations to get to know her a bit better, in both the Canon and Legends timelines:
Tumblr media
(for anyone looking for a definitive list of everything she's ever been in, I also have that)
for anyone looking for just the list of recommendations without all my babbling, scroll down to the bottom, it'll be there.
Canon
Tumblr media
Dooku: Jedi Lost Audiodrama - Script by Cavan Scott, preformed by full cast (also available in Script format) Starting off, this masterpiece. Telling the dual story of Asajj and Dooku, Jedi Lost is genuinely some of the best Star Wars content out there, in my opinion. Taking place early in The Clone Wars, it tells Asajj's journey battling her ghosts and uncovering her Master's history. It requires only the context of the prequels and The Clone Wars, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes the Prequels, Dooku, or Asajj.
Tumblr media
Brotherhood - by Mike Chen Continuing with the book that serves as an introduction to Asajj in canon (chronologically), Brotherhood presents an interesting take on her first meetings with Anakin and Obi-Wan. She's far from the main character here, only supporting the book's plot as the villain and the initiator behind some of the troubles Obi-Wan faces on Cato Neimodia. This Asajj is more calculated, working behind the scenes while still facing off face to face against Obi-Wan and Anakin, and it uniquely handles her character. The book is a Clone Wars adventure taking place before and it requires only the movies' and TCW's context, once again. *While technically taking place after Hyperspace Stories #5, it contradicts that issue's events and makes more sense if it takes place before, so I listed it first (for more info on the contradictions you can go here)*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #5 - Written by Amanda Deibert, with art by Riccardo Faccini (Variant cover by Cary Nord) Taking place shortly after Anakin's knighting, before The Clone Wars show, this is a short and interesting comic story for Asajj. While tying into an over-arching plot of the series, this issue stands alone well. Simply put, Asajj is sent to retrieve a mysterious item by Count Dooku and encounters Anakin and Obi-Wan in the process. It has fun art, fun dynamics, and it's really good.
Tumblr media
Worthless - a short story from Stories of Jedi and Sith - written by Delilah S. Dawson with an illustration by Jake Bartok This one is not as set on the timeline, but we do know it takes place while Asajj is still working for Dooku. In short, without too many spoilers, Asajj falls into a pit and has to trust on a Clone Trooper's help to get out. The story is a part of an anthology, but it completely stand-alone on its own. If you can read it on its own, I recommend it, but the rest of the book is also very much worth it if you want to buy it for the story. Dawson captures a version of Asajj that rarely gets attention, before the Nightsisters, and manages to show her identity and tell a wonderful story without that tool that's often overly used (in my opinion).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle #3 - Written by Cavan Scott with art by Francesco Francavilla & Nick Brokenshire Jumping forward in the Timeline, we have another Asajj story by Cavan Scott! It has Bounty Hunting, A baby Sarlacc, pretty art, fun coloring, and Asajj. So what's not to love? Like Hyperspace Stories, Return to Vader's Castle also has an over-arching plot, but that's 4 framing pages of Vaneé being a bitch and has no effect on the rest of it. Solid stuff. (it is also the source of the first picture in this post)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sisters - a short comic story from the Age of Republic Special - written by Jody Houser with art by Carlos Gómez Next, we have a wonderful short story taking place just before The Clone Wars episode "To Catch a Jedi". In just a few pages, Jody Houser brings conflict and personality to Asajj's time on Coruscant. And there's gorgeous art.
Legends
While Legends, and especially the comics, have some of my favorite stories with Asajj, it's hard to recommend individual issues. They can be stand-alone but still connected and ingrained in the ongoing story of the comics. But I tried to hand-pick the best for introduction and knowledge of who Asajj is a character there. So I won't recommend the 12 issues she's in, I set myself the limit of sticking with the same number of recommendations I had for canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Republic: The New Face of War - 2-issue Comic arc - written by W. Haden Blackman with art by Tomás Giorello Although I'm assuming you all have at least a passing familiarity with Asajj's character, introductions are still important. And, yes, Asajj first appeared in a different comic and after a month or so in Clone Wars (2003), but chronologically, in-universe, this is her first appearance. The Face of War is comprised of issues #51 and #52 of the Star Wars: Republic comic series, and although Asajj is only in the last page of #51, it's necessary context. This one isn't a must for me, but it sets the ground for her. And it's good. Giorello's art brings a unique perspective to Asajj's character, and by that I mean it may not be to some people's taste. So take your pick with this one.
Tumblr media
Star Wars: Republic #53 - written by W. Haden Blackman, with art by Brian Ching If the last one isn't a must, this one is. It is a stand-alone adventure, almost feeling like a (better) TCW episode. Obi-Wan is off to infiltrate a Techno Union base with a team of all-star legendary Jedi that are introduced, and everything goes wrong when they run into the Confederacy's best, Durge and Asajj Ventress. I say it's a must because it establishes the nature of the rivalry between Obi-Wan and Asajj, and gives us such a sense of who those people are. It also lays the foundations to my next comic recommendation.
Dark Heart - short story by August and Cynthia Hahn This one, a 1784-word story, originally published on Wizards.com as a part of The Living Force roleplaying campaign, is definitely not a must, but it's barely 2k words, just read it. In all seriousness though, it captures Asajj's essence and I just. love it. You can read it right now, that's the link in the name, it's up online for free legally. While it is a part of the RPG campaign, I read it individually and had no trouble at all.
Tumblr media
The Cestus Deception - by Steven Barnes (The Japanese cover is prettier and has Asajj, ok?) Obi-Wan Kenobi and Kit Fisto head to the planet Ord Cestus to try and convince Ord Cestus's government to ally with The Republic. But under the surface, a mysterious scheme had developed and it gets messy. Never ask me to write a publisher's summary. Asajj is the villain of this one, and I don't have much to say about it, but it is good. Fair warning: it hasn't aged the best in my opinion, and not even in a politically correct sense, some of the descriptions and relationships were questionable at best. If you like Kit Fisto and political adventuring and Clone Wars fights and a mascarade ball, if I remember correctly, this one's for you. It's not much of a story for Asajj but it is a fun read.
Tumblr media
Star Wars: Republic #60 - written by W. Haden Blackman with art by Tomás Giorello I have never ever not once said it but this right here is my favorite Asajj story of all time ever. It does require context, though, so here's it: after the battle of Jabiim, Alpha-17 (Legends Arc Trooper, you may have heard of him) and Obi-Wan (a staple in Asajj's stories, he needs to gtfo women's business) are blown up and declared dead. Turns out Asajj Ventress has been holding them in her castle on the planet Rattatak and this is the daring story of their escape. In this issue, Asajj's origin story is revealed, before the Nightsisters had anything to do with her. More than any other Legends issue, it differentiates greatly from anything you know about Asajj in TCW/Canon. She's a warlord, with armies at her beck and call, a military commander, And it's fun. Her origin story is told in this issue, and it's such a great story that shifted my understanding of her a lot. The art, once again, is by Giorello, keep it in mind.
Tumblr media
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous - by Sean Stewart (Japanese cover, once again) Last but certainly not least, the Legends Clone Wars book I've heard the most positive reviews of, and was not disappointed in the slightest. It is as good as they say. The story doesn't focus on Asajj, and she isn't even the main antagonist, but she gets a meaningful role in it and has her place and her arc in the story. It's also my favorite approach to how Asajj would act when she has to deal with children. Worth the hype and an excellent book to read unrelated to Asajj.
Alright, that's all! I hope you check out at least one of these, they're all great. As said before, I also have a complete list of everything Asajj in chronological order. Feel free to ask me anything about the list and the things in it. I can also give a complete comic reading list for her, since it's a bit more than just the issues she appeared in. For anyone struggling with the accessibility of these recommendations, I have a hopefully comprehensive guide in the complete appearances post. And now just this list because I promised that:
Canon 1) Dooku: Jedi Lost Audiodrama - Script by Cavan Scott, preformed by full cast (also available in Script format) 2) Brotherhood - by Mike Chen 3) Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #5 - Written by Amanda Deibert, with art by Riccardo Faccini (Variant cover by Cary Nord) 4) Worthless - a short story from Stories of Jedi and Sith - written by Delilah S. Dawson with an illustration by Jake Bartok 5) Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle #3 - Written by Cavan Scott with art by Francesco Francavilla & Nick Brokenshire 6) Sisters - a short comic story from the Age of Republic Special - written by Jody Houser with art by Carlos Gómez
Legends 1) Star Wars: Republic: The New Face of War - 2-issue Comic arc (Star Wars: Republic #51-52) - written by W. Haden Blackman with art by Tomás Giorello 2) Star Wars: Republic #53 - written by W. Haden Blackman, with art by Brian Ching 3) Dark Heart - short story by August and Cynthia Hahn 4) The Cestus Deception - by Steven Barnes 5) Star Wars: Republic #60 - written by W. Haden Blackman with art by Tomás Giorello 6) Yoda: Dark Rendezvous - by Sean Stewart

I was skimming through the reylo tags this morning and saddened to see some anti reylo jargon still floating around out there. It’s hard for me to imagine that 6 years after reylo was officially made canon, it’s still somewhat controversial within the Star Wars’ landscape. Apart of me feels like it’s John Boyega’s recent comments during a fan panel, and he’s certainly entitled to his opinion, but he does not represent my own. Let me briefly explain why.
I understand it’s easy to look at reylo through a modern lens, and come to the conclusion that it’s toxic- “why would you want to support a relationship where the two leads are fighting each other?” But Star Wars has always existed more in the realm of fantasy and fairytales. George Lucas has even referred to it as a “modern fairy tale”-
“I was afraid that science-fiction buffs and everybody would say things like, ‘You know there’s no sound in outer space." I just wanted to forget science. That would take care of itself. Stanley Kubrick made the ultimate science-fiction movie and it is going to be very hard for somebody to come along and make a better movie, as far as I'm concerned. I didn't want to make a 2001, I wanted to make a space fantasy that was more in the genre of Edgar Rice Burroughs; that whole other end of space fantasy that was there before science took it over in the Fifties. Once the atomic bomb came, everybody got into monsters and science and what would happen with this and what would happen with that. I think speculative fiction is very valid but they forgot the fairy tales and the dragons and Tolkien and all the real heroes.”
When you analyze fairytales, they’re often allegorical and symbolic in nature. Beauty and the Beast for instance was symbolic about looking past what we see, and trying to understand and empathize with the person underneath. Belle doesn’t fall for the Beast initially, and for good reason. In fact, she tries to flee the castle early on, and only stays to mend his wounds when he saves her from a pack of wolves. You could certainly analyze this through a modern lens, and say what we’ve all heard before- that Belle eventually develops Stockholm syndrome, etc. However, I think applying these types of modern terms to fairytales, that exist mostly outside time itself, waters down their intended meaning. Belle does choose to stay with the Beast, but she holds her own. In return, mutual trust and respect is eventually established between them, and that creates a foundation for something more.
Tumblr media
Returning back to Star Wars, we see symbolism plays a very important role throughout the series, including the OT and PT. Luke is introduced as a farm boy who initially holds his father in high esteem. When it’s revealed his father is actually Darth Vader, his worst enemy, it shatters him. But by choosing forgiveness over revenge, Luke finally sparks enough good in Vader for Anakin to fulfill the original prophecy. Many could look at this through a modern lens, and wonder why Luke should ever forgive his abusive and traitorous father? Why didn’t he just kill both Vader and Palpatine right then? Didn’t they deserve it? But what Star Wars does so brilliantly is Luke won by ultimately choosing not to fight. His anger and rage started controlling him, so he decided to forgive his father, because he was in serious danger of becoming him. It becomes the overall moral of the story. So, you might be wondering, what does all this have to do with reylo, and the love story of the ST?
Much like how Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker are established as separate entities, Kylo Ren and Ben Solo are established as separate. In the ObiWan series, we see Anakin refer to himself in the third person as someone who’s gone-
ObiWan: Anakin?
Anakin: Anakin’s gone. I am what remains.
ObiWan: I’m sorry… I’m sorry Anakin for all of it.
Anakin: I am not your failure ObiWan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker… I did.
Tumblr media
Likewise, in The Force Awakens, we see Kylo Ren refer to Ben Solo in the same manner-
Han: Take off that mask. You don't need it.
Kylo Ren: What do you think you'll see if I do?
Han: The face of my son.
Kylo Ren: Your son is gone. He was weak and foolish, like his father. So I destroyed him.
Neither ObiWan or Han are successful, but both times it’s established that these people are lost in their own darkness, and have now become something else entirely. When Rey first meets Kylo Ren, he’s on the cusp of fully embracing the dark, but something is holding him back. He attempts to snuff out the light by killing his father, which is the exact opposite of Luke’s choice in Return of the Jedi. Han’s death only weakens him emotionally, and he’s further established as an irredeemable villain in Rey’s eyes. When they meet again in The Last Jedi, her first reaction is to shoot at him. She remains hateful and guarded, until she starts seeing cracks in his facade. This mirrors Belle’s trajectory in Beauty and the Beast, where she held her own until she saw a real person underneath. Both characters attempted to understand their counterparts, and in doing so, start to empathize with them. Rey attempts to save Ben Solo from his worst self- Kylo Ren. She doesn’t fall in love with Kylo Ren. The same could be said for Luke, but in different terms. He tried to save his father from his worst self, so he could return as Anakin Skywalker.
Tumblr media
It’s also important to note that these stories take place during an ongoing war, with many people attempting to reason with friends, family or loved ones who are on opposite sides. There will inevitably be fighting between multiple characters, but the overall theme is that hatred tended to lead towards the dark, whereas compassion led towards the light. ObiWan loved Anakin like a brother, but nearly killed him when he got out of control on Mustafar. This eventually led to the creation of Darth Vader. Meanwhile, Luke hated his father, but still decided to forgive him, despite the threat of death. This resulted in the return of Anakin Skywalker. Rey initially hated Kylo Ren, and for good reason, but recognized there was someone else underneath. It was her compassion, empathy, and love that ultimately led to the return of Ben Solo. This is the primary moral of the story, and has been since the very beginning. It’s ultimately why Rose Tico says very plainly to Finn, but also the audience- “That's how we're gonna win. Not by fighting what we hate. But saving what we love.”

To hide her true identity and protect her children from the Empire's wrath, she is forced to use a little too predictable alias.

But what no one planned was how long that stay would end up being. Despite her being marked for death, Vader cannot bring himself to kill the beautiful woman, electing instead to keep her within the castle. And with nothing else to do, Padmé finds herself deeply interested in deciphering the mystery that her captor presents.

Beauty and the Beast by Queen-of-naboo
Thirteen years ago, Anakin Skywalker was just seven years old. The Sith felt the extent of his power. So they murdered his mother and took him away to train him. He was bred to be the most powerful sith in the galaxy, which is exactly what he became Darth Vader.
The only thing he feared was his master, the first ever galactic emperor, Palpatine. So, one night, Vader killed his master in his sleep. Now Lord Vader is the reigning emperor. Nothing can change that?except perhaps a twenty year old slave girl.

Free Comic Book Day 2025: Star Wars 1 Thoughts
Tumblr media
This is a nice free release of three stories tying into the three mainline Star Wars comics except for the new Aphra run.
The Legacy of Vader and Jedi Knights sections of the FCBD issue are pretty nice, but the mainline 2025 run really didn't do well.
If I had read Alex Segura's portion of this FCBD issue before reading the first issue of his mainline run, I would've thought the comic was cooked. Thankfully, the first issue was much more solid than the mainline run's FCBD section. The only good part of his issue is Phil Noto's artwork; Phil Noto is always a win.
Luke saying, "The lives of New Republic citizens is my business!", is one of the most OOC lines I've heard from him lmao. It felt like Alex Segura didn't see Return of the Jedi at all.
As a friend pointed out, Luke getting cheap shotted by the Pyke Syndicate member's hammer felt a bit too much in terms of power scaling.
The way he forced the trader to tell him about the pirates felt very TCW Anakin than Luke. In a nutshell, Luke acted very OOC in this issue.
I do like how we do get Rynn's full backstory by the end of the FCBD issue. It was already elaborated on throughout the Jakku comic, but it's nice to get more information and summarize what we know about her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Charles Soule's Vaneé story is the best of the three stories in the FCBD issue.
Soule really dives deep into what makes Vaneé tick in his service to Vader. Vaneé truly was devoted to his former master to the point of accepting his punishment from Vader as "lessons" and welcoming them as a result. It's really disturbing to see all of that.
I like how the issue is all about Vaneé's five stages of grief as he processes Vader's death. It's also nice to see the origins of his B'omarr monk droid style appearance in the comic. The use of hope for a villain is a great touch by Soule, especially when Vanee finally sees his salvation for purpose might lie in the hands of Kylo Ren.
I absolutely love the fact that they referenced Vaneé's origin story in his character bio from the Star Wars Adventures: Shadows of Vader's Castle issue.
Tumblr media
Tensu Run is actually a bit cool in the Jedi Knights FCBD section. It made me go back to the Inquisitors comic, and while the comic was pretty boring, Tensu Run did interest me a bit.
I really like how the issue establishes that Corlis Rath is connected to an incident when Qui-Gon was still Dooku's Padawan. I'll be very interested to know why Qui-Gon simply forgot about the entire incident, especially with how Dooku called out to Qui-Gon for his presumed scarring of Corlis. Maybe scarring Corlis isn’t on Qui-Gon’s events to remember list.
I find it interesting that Vader uploaded the death of Tensu Run onto the Holonet. But that feels like a classic Vader move to miss the point of Tensu Run’s final moments and words to Vader.
Tumblr media
The character bios at the end of the issue are a fun read, and they gave some interesting trivia and recaps of the characters.
Overall, it was a noice issue with the mainline 2025 run being lackluster and the other two bringing some interesting relevations and questions for their future issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I remade myself, just as my master had long ago. In my new form, I could last as long as needed, until he saw fit to return. I returned to my duties and begin my vigil anew. But in time, even I had to acknowledge...the passage of time. In the thirty years since Lord Vader's alleged demise, I heard no reports of his presence, no plausible rumors. If he lived, I like to think he would have reached out. Made some effort to...Well. He did not. That was the worst day of my life--when I finally acknowledged the truth. I grew despondent. Service to Lord Vader was all that gave my life meaning. I searched the Holonet feeds incessantly, hoping I was wrong, hoping for some evidence of Vader's continued presence. I found nothing. Until one day...I did. Not Darth Vader, but perhaps...another path. A way I might continue to serve, to persist in the journey I knew was my destiny. For that day, you see, I discovered...There is another." Vaneé

chapter four
author's notes: I was discouraged with the fanfic and insecure but I rewrote it and here it is
warnings: loneliness ?? light flirting
Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar was huge and lush. But you never cared about that. But now, you hoped that all that greatness would help her avoid him. And also, Vader always had a lot of tasks, or someone was talking and talking in his head, or he was meditating, or...
But there was never enough time for you. And you were tired of it. And knowing that he was in the company of another woman increased his insecurity. This insecurity made you act like a child.
You knew and felt that he was looking for you, but you always turned away, entered another huge corridor when he came marching around. This was testing his patience.
You continued to ignore the communications he sent you, not starting by asking but then ordering you to meet. And to avoid meeting him, you didn't even leave your room, but that was okay because it was big enough. You even had a view of that lava sea. Wow.
And when you went out it always had to be in the company of some stupid Stormtrooper. Being alone gave you time to reflect on many things, even the Stormtroopers and their boring lives.
Wearing that outfit, everyone was so equal and seemed to have no emotions or opinions. Well, that's what you thought until you met one Stormtrooper in particular - Jamie.
- Today I will accompany you on your walk - He said, in your first contact, with the blaster in his hand but not scary.
You sighed and rolled your eyes but you were tired of being hidden, Vader wasn't looking for you and being alone only brought you bad feelings.
- Come on, I promise it won't be that bad - the soldier nudged you and walked ahead, you found it curious but funny.
And maybe it was the loneliness and lack of friends, but shortly after you were opening up and telling about your security to a Stormtrooper, who until then was a stranger.
- So... - You took a breath to continue, you were in dining area and he gave you some water - Thank you. Can I call you Jamie?
He seemed surprised by the question and laughed.
- I'm not used to nicknames, just my identification number. But if that's what you want...
- Thank you for accompanying me on my walk, as this is not the main activity of a Stormtrooper - You say a little embarrassed, knowing that you are taking up his time.
- It's true, I was trained to be a warrior and not a tour guide, but I'm going to try to do well at that too - You laugh together at the worried way he says - but don't worry, because of you, I'm having a great afternoon!
You didn't know if he was lying but that really touched you.
- Thank you Jamie... You know, sometimes I feel like I'm left over here, that I'm nothing more than a title for Darth Vader's wife.
- You are much more than that. You are Darth Vader's wife for many reasons.
You smile because he looked like he was trying to comfort you. But especially these last few days, you had low self-esteem.
- It is serious. Everyone talks about you here. About how smart and compassionate you are. And I know Lord Vader loves you - he continues.
- I don't know - You think out loud.
You give him the glass of water back and wait for him to return so they can continue their walk.
It's not like there was much to do, but you liked walking down the halls and handing out compliments, seeing how everyone was doing at their job, if everything was going well, and encouraging them to keep going.
- Jamie - You called him and he looked at you, he had really picked up the name for himself - In a short time you praised me more than my husband...
- Madam, sometimes he has difficulty expressing his feelings. Don't take it personally. I know you are important to him - he says.
- Is it Jamie? I'm upset with him. But I also can't express myself. He doesn't seem to want contact at the moment.
- Maybe he's going through something difficult right now. Continue to show your love and affection to him. Believe me, he can see that.
Jamie seemed so sure in his words, more sure than yourself. For a moment it's as if you had no reason to be like this, but your heart hurts so much.
- I try to understand... but it's also difficult for me. I need to feel loved - you open up.
You feel the Stormtrooper's hand on your shoulder, making you stop walking. You are in a corridor where there don't seem to be many people passing by.
Jamie takes off his helmet, revealing his face. He was a young man with fair skin, black hair and blue eyes. On his handsome face he carried a burn, probably from the battlefield.
- If he is unable to show you his love, pay attention to small gestures. A look. One word. Maybe, that's his language - His voice without the helmet sounds so deep and loving, and it makes you sensitive - Can I give you some advice?
- Of course, say it.
- Your happiness should not depend on Vader, or anyone else! You are strong, intelligent and independent. You have to find your own happiness in small gestures and in yourself. This is the only way to find genuine happiness. It doesn't depend on anyone else. You understood?
Those words from the man made your eyes fill with tears, which you couldn't hold back. The Stormtrooper surprised you and even though it wasn't allowed - you both knew damn well it wasn't - he hugged you.
-Everything will be fine, I promise-Jamie assured you, close to your ear.
You continue in silence sobbing and leaving all your tears on the boy's chest.
- No one should go through this. You're not just Darth Vader's wife. You are a formidable, intelligent, and so beautiful woman! You deserve all the love and affection in this world - He seems disgusted to see you cry when you stop hugging each other.
- D-Do you think I'm beautiful? - Not just beautiful, you are a queen - Jamie praises you with a wide smile.
You blush and your whole body heats up, unaccustomed to being praised like that.
- Thanks. You really made my day, but I think we better go back now - you says embarrassed.
You stay in a comfortable silence but your face remains red. As he approaches his quarters he says:
- If you need me, I'm always here to talk or just spend some time.
- So can I make you my personal guard? - you joke but he agrees.
Before you can say anything you hear the sound of heavy footsteps, those unmistakable boots, that unmistakable robotic breathing. It was him. And he was coming to you.

Obi-Wan remembers the first time he met Anakin and Vader.
The little pup is the prince of the kingdom of Coruscant, his parents always spoiled him and gave him all the love Obi-Wan could wish for. The little boy was loved by everyone in the castle and even in the village.
One day his parents were busy with kingdom matters that left their young son alone with the royal guards, it was a small neglect, and Obi-Wan disappeared from everyone's sight.
Obi-Wan liked to explore the surroundings of the castle, which was surrounded by a huge forest; his parents always told him that he should not enter it without the supervision of the guards. But that day, Obi-Wan followed a beautiful butterfly that guided him deep into the forest.
The boy tried to catch it, but it was impossible. The butterfly flew higher and higher until it was lost in the branches of the trees, and that was when Obi-Wan tried to return to the castle but realized that he was completely lost.
Everything around him looked exactly the same, and he didn't know where to go.
Obi-Wan wanted to cry, it was about dusk and he was cold; he wanted to be in his room and with his parents.
The little prince walked and walked, trying to find something or someone to guide him to the castle, but he found nothing. He was about to give up and sit down to cry near a tree when he heard small whimpers of some animal.
Obi-Wan walked towards the sound and found himself in front of a large cave, carefully going inside it to find out what caused such whining. Shocked when he saw two puppies, they were huddled together as they cried from hunger and cold. Apparently they were abandoned by their parents, as there was nothing else in the cave, only those two cubs awaiting their cruel fate.
Obi-Wan couldn't let them die to their fate, so he carefully took the cubs, one in each arm, and walked out of that cave. Now he was more than determined to find the castle to help the little animals.
It wasn't long until the prince was found, the kings had gone in search of him along with a whole troop of soldiers. Obi-Wan didn't mind his parents punishing him, he needed to get the puppies to safety as soon as possible.
When they arrived at the castle, Obi-Wan was in charge of giving them milk on a plate and wrapping them very well in blankets. After pouting, the kings let the cubs stay in Obi-Wan's room, so the little boy could care for and supervise them at night.
Obi-Wan thought that the puppies belonged to some breed of dog, so he decided to train them both to be his guardian pets and always take care of him. The little prince was more than happy, as he finally had friends who would never leave him alone and lived next to him.
When he named the puppies, Obi-Wan didn't know how to name them, one had blonde fur with blue eyes and the other black fur with golden eyes.
So he named the one with blue eyes as Anakin and the one with golden eyes as Vader.
Obi-Wan was happy with his little puppies. He even let them sleep next to him in bed, and every night he read them a story to help them sleep.
Too bad he realized very late that they were wolf cubs.
Wolf hybrids.
This is a gift to my friend ❤️

May the 4th be with you!
What are Rocky Horror characters favourite/least favourite Star Wars character and film?
AND ALSO WITH YOUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH QRFIWRFIWF4O
Frank: Frank, generally speaking LOVES Anakin and the second two movies of the prequel trilogy w Darth Vader also counting during the original trilogy!!! His favorite movie is Revenge of the Sith! He thinks that the dialogue in the prequels is INCREDIBLY inspiring (yes, even the sand scene!!!) And he TOTALLY is obsessed with Padme's outfits!!! (And who isn't seriously those looks are amazing) He's even recreated some to wear himself!!! Though- they do ALL pale in comparison to Leia's bikini in Return of the Jedi (my favorite Star Wars movie!!!) He LOVES to recite Anakin's lines! Especially the bit when he's burning up and becoming Vader!!! He'll make the others recite lines with him sometimes!!! Janet and Columbia do FANTASTIC Padmes!!!! Also Riff loves doing Obi-Wan in the burning scene!!! It's all a VERY amazing time!!! Frank's LEAST favorite movie is The Phantom Menace in a twist of him loving the prequels, though! Because he just wasn't too interested in a child being the lead!!! He wasn't into that at ALL and Anakin went from being his least favorite character to his favorite in a span of one movie!! He did really love The Phantom Menace, though!!! Especially Darth Maul!!!
Brad: Brad loves The Empire Strikes Back a whole lot!!! He loves the incredible action of it all and he loves how exciting it gets!!! He TOTALLY had a crush on Lando Calrissian when he first saw him and he STILL DOES!! (side note: might I just say that I do love how, when the film came out, according to my mother at least, Lando Calrissian was designed as like a ladies' man and as time has passed he has completely evolved into being gay-) he also loves the Hoth scenes!!! His favorite character is C3P0!!! C3P0 actually helped him get over his internalized homophobia in a HUGE way!!! Because C3P0 is beloved and he is GAY!!! Also, he's just so charming!!! If he loves C3P0, he can love himself!!!!! He also loves Yoda bc yes!! His least favorite movie is Solo: A Star Wars Story because of how completely and utterly confused he was! Wait! Han had a girlfriend? Wait! He wasn't born with the last name Solo? WAIT! DARTH MAUL IS ALIVE!?!?!?!? He was so overwhelmed and it was ADORABLY hilarious!!! His least favorite character is Kylo Ren because he's just so frustrating sometimes!!! He LOVES Star Wars so much!!!
Janet: Janet's favorite characters are Chewy and Luke!!!! And also she totally had a crush on Ewan McGregor in the prequels!!!! She loves Chewie and Luke because they're both so cute and sweet!!! She can just adore how loveable they are!!! (She was DEVASTATED at what they did to Luke in the sequel trilogy!!! And so was I!!!) She ADORES them so much!!!! And she always has loved Princess Leia!!! Her favorite movie is a New Hope because of how sweet she thinks it is!!!! She loves the underdog feeling that it has and how it is, truly, hopeful!!! Also secretly Darth Vader REALLLY turns her on in that opening scene!!! So does Han when he shoots first!!! She loves how Luke says "I've come to rescue you!" SO much!!! Her least favorite character is Jabba because he gives her a MASSIVE ick!!! Pretty much anybody in his castle does!!!! She gagged when she first saw him!!! Her least favorite movie is Rogue One because they all die!!! She cried SO HARD at the end of that movie!!! She was NOT expecting it at ALL!!! It saddened the living HELL out of her!!! She was SO SAD!!! She ADORES Star Wars though!!!
Riff Raff: Riff Raff loves R2D2!!!! He thinks he's so sassy and funny and he loves him SO MUCHHHH!!!! (He also has a DEEP fondness for the blue elephant!!!) One of his favorite parts in the entire series is when he pushes C3P0 over the edge in Return of the Jedi!!! He DIED laughing!!! Also, he loves the Mandalorian!!! Idk if that show counts but he loves Mando and that show!!! He also loves the way that R2 just has NO FILTER and you can TELL! He doesn't speak a word of English, but you can tell!!! In a very strange and wonderful way, he reminds him of Magenta!!!! And he loves that so much!!! She sees it too and she also loves it!!!!! His favorite of the movies (aside from the Mandalorian) is Empire Strikes Back!!! He LOVES the scene where Han gets frozen in carbonite!!! He loves the way that the characters all seem to love each other, even in such pain!!! Also the I am your father scene he really does love that part!!! As for least favorites, we have a list of characters that he wants to KILL! He wants to shoot Jar Jar! He wants to throw Kylo Ren into the lava like his grandfather except this time nobody saves him! And most importantly, that singer at Jabba's in Return of the Jedi... Sy Snootles... Yeah he fully wants to unleash a deadly snake in her presence!!!! His least favorite movie is Return of the Jedi because seriously wtf IS that shit??? What do they think this franchise is??? It's about the wacky, weird and wonderful! NOT! MONEY!!! He loves Star Wars and the way that it treats "weird" things as lovely!!! He REALLY does!!!
Magenta: Magenta LOVES Jabba!!! She thinks he's HILARIOUS with how disgusting he is and she LAUGHED HER ASS OFF when he died!!!! She really did!!! She also loves Han Solo for his sass and his willingness to kill!!! She FULLY believes that Han shot first and will DIE on that hill!!! She loves that bit so much!!! Her favorite movie in the series is Return of the Jedi (SAME MAGENTA SAME) because of how purely chaotic it is!!! Its so wacky and fun and hilarious!!!! She ADORES the whole rescuing Han sequence at the beginning! It's her favorite scene in the whole series!!!! Again, she LAUGHED HER ASS OFF AT IT!! Her and Riff both did!!! She also loves when the Ewoks try to cook them she found that bit to be PERFECT!!! Also Palpatine- she LOVES Palpatine!!! As for her least favorite character, she wants to drop a meteorite on Anakin and she finds Luke to be an OK lead. She's one of the people who thinks that he's a bit whiny and that he should just man up and kill his dad!!! She does like that he redeems him at the end, though!!! She also really does love how Palpatine dies!!! Her least favorite movie is the Rise of Skywalker because it just felt so cheap to her!!! All she could think about was how they'd OBVIOUSLY been making this sequel trilogy up as they went!!! And she wouldnt have cared if they were smart about it! Yknow like the original trilogy was! But that movie just... irritated her so much! She loves Star Wars so much, though!!!
Columbia: Columbia LOVES the ewoks!!! She ADORES the Ewoks!!! The Ewoks and the Jawas!!! She LOVES them!!! Also Chewie and the droids!!! Basically, she loves all of the adorable and fun creatures with a wild and fun personality!!!! (Yoda didn't quite make her list of favorites because of how noble he is and I love him but still-) Columbia loves A New Hope because she loves the feeling of new beginnings!!! She gets CHILLS every time those sirens go off right before Vader makes his entrance (Same girl same) It gives her such a feeling of vibrancy and life!!!! Also she ADORES the cantina scene!!!! Everything about it is PURELY PERFECT to her!!! And she's not wrong!!! Her least favorite character is Grand Moff Tarkin and she was NOT upset by the fact that he was a Death Star casualty in the SLIGHTEST!!! She just didn't find him to be quite charismatic enough!!! Also, her least favorite movie is the Rise of Skywalker because of how she felt herself slowly losing the last of all she'd loved in the original trilogy!!! She cried to Eddie afterwards about how "they're all gone! All three of them are gone!!!" She gets very attached to characters as we all do here and she was so sad to see what happened!!! She loves the movies VERY much!!!
Rocky: Rocky LOVES the porgs!!! Like, he LOVE LOVES the porgs!!! His favorite character is Lando because YES! The style! The flair! The way that he's so effortlessly cool!!! He also just loves the sequel trilogy in general!!! To him, the effects are so splashy and he loves all the twists and turns!!! He's at that special age where a momentary shock is the BEST thing he could EVER hope for!!! So all of the things that frustrated everybody else (except for Luke being bad he didn't like that) THRILLED him!!! He doesn't really understand death so the deaths don't hit him that hard!!! His favorite scene was Snoke's death and the battle that came after!!! He was SO excited the whole time!!! His least favorite character is Palpatine because he's just so creepy and evil!!! He feels bugs crawling all over his skin!!! His least favorite movie is Revenge of the Sith because it ends so sad!!! He was so upset when Anakin turned into Darth Vader!!! The only reason he can really bear it is because he knows that he'll be redeemed in Return of the Jedi!!! And that is TOTALLY valid!!!
Eddie: Eddie LOVES Lando!!! Lando has such an effortlessly cool energy and he wants to have his own brand of that SO BAD!!! He thinks that he's so cool and stylish!!! He also loves Count Dooku and the Ewan McGregor version of Obi-Wan because, while all three characters do it in a COMPLETELY different way, they ALL massively check the Lando boxes of effortlessly cool and stylish!!! He also really loves Return of the Jedi for the same reason as Magenta- that it's just so chaotic!!! He LOVES the way that you can't pause for a MINUTE in that movie!!! His least favorite character is Luke because he feels imperfect around him! Like, sure, Luke's not a Gary Sue, but he feels like he's not a good person when he's confronted with Luke, in a way!!! He secretly likes him a whole lot, though!!! For Eddie, his least favorite thing is not so much a movie in specific as it is a thing that they DID after the prequel movies came out!!! It was the way that they fucked with the line, "I've got a bad feeling about this" he was SO furious that they wouldn't just keep doing it without saying, "Nope! The droid said it in droid-speak! Nope! They cut it off! Nope! THEY MADE HAN SAY I'VE GOT A GREAT FEELING ABOUT THIS INSTEAD!" He felt like they were calling this little thing that was so special to him and many other fans dumb and immature and like they were fucking with the fans!!! He felt a bit disrespected!!! And he might not be wrong! He is a MASSIVE Star Wars fan!!!
Doctor Scott: Doctor Scott loves Return of the Jedi because he loves a TRULY happy ending!!! And this is the only ending that he finds to be a TRULY happy ending! Not bittersweet, but HAPPY! and he loves that so much!!! He's really not up for cynicism in stories or ending on sad notes anymore!!! So this is the perfect ending to a great series for him!!! His favorite character is Yoda because he thinks he's just so cute and cool!!! He loves Yoda's way of talking and he loves that he's a puppet!! He loves the puppet look of him!! He just ADORES how cute it all is!!! And so inspiring as well!!! He could quote Yoda a WHOLE lot!!! And he does!!! His least favorite character is, in a HUGE way, Kylo Ren! He cannot STAND Kylo Ren! To him, Kylo Ren is the nephew that he LOVES but WORSE!!! To him, this is what Eddie could've been if things were only slightly different and that fact TERRIFIES him!!! It's very enjoyable for everybody else to watch, though!!! His least favorite movie is Attack of the Clones because it just didn't do too much for him! He loved the way that the screen rolled up at the end of the opening crawl instead of down this one time! He finds it really cool!!! But other than that he just... didn't feel for Anakin all that much!!!! All in all, though, he LOVES the movies!!! He really does!!!
The Criminologist: The Criminologist has done COUNTLESS studies on weather or not Han shot first and in doing so BOTH HAN AND GREEDO HAVE BECOME HIS BABIES IN A WAY!!! He cherishes them both so much and has grown to love everything about them in a HUGE way!!! He was SO SAD when Han died in the Force Awakens!!! Both of his babies are dead now!!! But he loved the movies enough to keep going!!! Because of that, his favorite movie IS A New Hope, but he also has a REALLY soft spot in his heart for The Phantom Menace for two reasons! Number 1! The scientific element of the force was SO fascinating to him!!! Number 2! This... this psycho watched the movies in chronological order... by chronological order, I mean that he watched the prequels, and then Solo, and then Rogue one, and so on and so forth!!! He'll never forget his first!!! (And neither will I it was a life-changing experience but I did it correctly-) his least favorite character is Snoke because of what a letdown he was!!! He was waiting for him to be someone special and then? Death? AHHHH!!! It was so frustrating!!! And his least favorite movie is the Last Jedi!!! He feels like all the information the movie gives him is false after the Rise of Skywalker and there isn't much to document!!! And he LOVES to document EVERYTHING that's happening in the plot!! He loves it all SO much!!!

castle crumbling - Anakin Skywalker
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Burning bridges is an expression that means you’ve destroyed your ability to turn back or irreparably damage your relationship with someone
i held that grudge til it tore me apart
Tumblr media
mataram minha explicação muito foda dessa parte e eu tinha falado do Luke nela ent sim vida meu amor tá pensando certinho vamos assistir o resto qualquer dia desses
Tumblr media

Who doesn't love a good story? When it comes to movies, music can be a powerful part of the worldbuilding and storytelling, and few pieces of music have become more recognizable than those epic theme songs. So gather your favorite snacks, find a comfortable seat, and let these talented fellows show you some of the most iconic cinematic tunes from the last several decades.

My favorite bits:
magically summoning their guest 🪄✨

that gravelly Beetlejuice voice from J.None
Layne's percussion being muffled by the plate across his mouth 🤐
impressive whistling by Rob on that iconic western theme
the upper corners dodging bullets from Rob's finger guns
Layne joining Geoff for some bassy Indiana Jones harmonies
J's triumphant tone on "The Raiders March"
Geoff giving a decent whipcrack before realising it's a snake 🐍
the rippling visual effect on the Jurassic Park growl
the bottom row getting spooked by the dino roar 🦖
Eli's nimble riffing on the Mission: Impossible theme
"This town needs an enema." 🤢
Geoff getting smacked in the chin, but rubbing his forehead
the return of the carrot drumstick 🥁🥁
Eli and J putting up their dukes 🥊
those harmonies on the final Rocky fanfare
dimming the lighting in the final transition to hide a cut to a different take
adding a soda slurp as part of the Darth Vader sound effects 🥤
poor Eli not having enough time to actually eat any popcorn 🍿
Geoff and Rob doing pretty good Han Solo and Chewbacca impressions
Layne's adorable R2-D2 noises 🤖
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
○ This music video was half of a two-part collaboration. The other half is an episode of Rob's movie podcast, The Avid Indoorsmen, released the day before.
○ This was VoicePlay's second time filming a video with Rob at a distance. Home Free's half of their "Survivor" collaboration was recorded at their local studio in Minnesota with only Layne on hand to direct.
○ The guys' shirts reflect some of the movies in the countdown.
Geoff — "The Handbook for the Recently Deceased" book cover from Beetlejuice (+ bonus Ghostbusters 2 logo shirt in the outro)
Layne — Harry Potter parody of the Disney castle logo with Hogwarts and a person riding a broom in place of Tinkerbell (h/t to @acaplaya-musings for the correction)
Eli — helmet of Boba Fett from Star Wars with two crossed blasters angled upward beneath, in the style of a Jolly Roger pirate flag
Rob — the Jurassic Park logo
J.None — logo for Mighty Mick's boxing gym from Rocky
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
○ Geoff's Ghostbusters 2 shirt in the outro is reminiscent of his early days as a theme park performer at Universal Studios. He was a cast member in a street show called "Extreme Ghostbusters: The Great Fright Way", which featured Beetlejuice causing mischief at the New York Public Library façade.
○ The Beetlejuice theme song was particularly familiar to Geoff, J.None, and production manager Kathy. They'd played Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, and the Bride, respectively, in various iterations of the Beetlejuice stage show at Universal Studios. There were many, many VoicePlay and PattyCake collaborators among their castmates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
monsters get a visit from their mundane friend // "Blackula" and Deejay Wolfie in the show's final incarnation
○ VoicePlay had previously used the Mission: Impossible theme as part of a mashup with "Jingle Bells" to help promote the home media release of M:I Fallout in 2018.
○ Layne and Tony had integrated the Batman theme into an Imagine Dragons song for PattyCake's "Batman: Whatever It Takes" music video two years earlier.
○ VoicePlay had already dipped their toes in the Star Wars pool in a much sillier way with their video of "What Do You Get a Wookiee for Christmas?" during the 2015 holiday season.
○ The Star Wars sequel cast had filmed an a cappella version of the main theme with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots for The Tonight Show in advance of the premiere of The Force Awakens in 2015.
○ Fellow a cappella group May Tree recorded their own cover of the Star Wars theme in the spring of 2021.

Overcoming Fears
Darth Vader x Reader
Chapter Ten
———————————
After Vader heard about what happened with that one stormtrooper, it wasn’t long till almost the entire castle knew. Every single squadron of Stormtroopers feared Lord Mira more than Vader now, afraid of the same fate as the Mocker. Which was what they called the poor man.
Mira hadn’t been seen since the Storm Trooper ‘Explosion’, as she had been in her room, resting her leg. Mira knew the cuts and burns on her leg wasn’t heeling, and Terra had said the same thing when she had come to assist her.
That day you had to show Perseus where another unit was on the same floor as Lord Mira and Darth Vader’s quarters. You were around 6 floors down, but thank the maker for elevators. Is what Perseus always said.
The two of you took a step into the elevator, Perseus hit the button to the correct floor, being closer to the panel and the wall. He placed his heavy bag on the floor between the two of you, briefly fixing the collar of his uniform as the elevator began to move. You hadn’t gone but a floor up until it came to halt. The doors opened with a creak. Terra stepped in, glancing to you as she stood next to the wall farthest from you and Perseus. You glanced over to her, before looking back to the door as out of the corner of your eye you could see another figure entering the elevator. His heavy boots echoed as they hit the hollow floor. His breathing filled the small room. Vader stepped in beside you, glaring down to you through the dark lenses of his mask.
“What floor, My Lord?” Perseus asked, stepping back to the panel and looking up to Lord Vader. His mask tilted to him, looking to the panel.
“We will be heading to the same floor, Officer.” He replied, turning his head back forward. Perseus nodded, stepping back next to you. Vader was accompanying Terra to visit Lord Mira. She hadn’t been able to move around very well, and even now she was unable to even put pressure on her leg. She was a very powerful sith, yet even Vader would admit she was proud, but she was still human.
The doors shut once more. The elevator shifted as it moved once again. The four of you stood in an awkward silence, not even getting two floors up before the elevator jerked to a stop. It made you, Terra, and Perseus loose balance for a moment, without falling. Vader still stood stiffly, as if he had caused it.
“What was that?” Terra asked, glancing between you, Perseus, and Vader.
“The elevator has broken down.” Vader spoke.
“Well can’t you just lift us up with the force or something?” Terra snapped.
His head quickly turned, looking down to her.
“If I am to lift the elevator up, it will only break it further. Only a simple wire malfunction has occurred which must be fixed from the outside.” Vader snapped.
“So this isn’t your first time stuck in an elevator, is it My Lord?” Perseus joked, looking up to him. His helmet turned back to his direction, without a word. Perseus laughed awkwardly at his silence, looking to the wall.
“Another mechanic will fix the elevator from the outside.” Vader scoffed, looking back towards the door.
“And how long will that take?” You asked.
“I would know if I were the one fixing it. “ Vader snapped. The three of you could tell he was annoyed, and did not plan to anger him further.
You all sat in silence for almost 20 minutes till your legs began to ache, not having moved in a while. Your back was tempting you to slouch. You assumed Perseus and Terra felt the same, as Perseus was constantly switching the leg he leaned on. Not a moment later the Sith sighed looking over to you and Perseus. The two of you returned the gesture, starring up at the tall man.
“I believe we will be waiting a while more.” He spoke with a sigh, “The three of you may sit, if you wish.” He slightly glanced back toward Terra, who seemed more pleased than you did.
“Thank you, My Lord.” Perseus nodded, stepping back to the wall behind him and plopping down. He drug his bag towards him, leaning an elbow on it. You looked down to Perseus, glancing back up to the Sith before sitting down next to him. Vader stepped to the far corner, by the door, turning back towards the two of you as if making room for Terra. She stepped towards you, sitting one a foot or so away from you on the wall, placing her bag down with her also.
Only the sound of Vader’s respirator filled the small room. He stared at the wall above you, seemingly zoned out or in a daze. You glanced over to Perseus, then Terra, before looking back to Vader.
“You don’t need an invitation, but you may sit with us if you’d like, My Lord,” You spoke. “It does seem we will be here much longer…” You knew Vader could sit down if he wanted to, but he had to show some authority not by sitting with people of much lower rank than his. But it was still worth a try.
His helmet shifted down towards you. “I appreciate the offer, General, but we should be moving shortly…” Vader spoke. “Beyond that, the three of you will be accompanying Lord Mira and I to the Imperial Base and Medical Facility on Hoth in three days.”
A confused look fell on your faces. Why were we going to Hoth? It’s one of the coldest darn planets, and definitely the opposite of Mustafar.
“You all will have simple tasks while you are there,” he continued, ”So do not see this as a vacation. Officer Perseus, you will be fixing a Mechanical Problem the facility has had for years. General
L/N, you will be accompanying Officer Perseus overall, yet you do have one scheduled meeting with another General- He is supposed to help you to present- Useful… War Tactics.” His helmet tilted to the side as he looked to you in a mocking way.
Perseus quickly glanced between the two of you, hoping to know the story of your silent quarrel. He paused before continuing, “Terra, you have already heard of your assignments and our business on Hoth-“
You looked to the Sith for a moment, before quickly shifting your gaze to the floor. You noticed He hadn’t used a title when talking to Terra, even though he had with Perseus and you. It was odd. She didn’t have the title of General or even Officer, hers would simply be The Botanist, or just Botanist-
The creaking of metal interrupted your thoughts. Perseus looked to the ceiling and the wall, searching for the source of the noise. Suddenly the elevator shifted, moving upward once again. The abrupt jerk caused Perseus’ head to be banged into the wall behind him. You and Terra smiled as you held in your laughs. He lowed his head, reaching back to rub it.
You could hear a low scoff from Vader as he turned to the door. It slid open, to the right floor this time. Terra stood, taking her bag, following Vader down the hallway as he quickly fled the elevator as if nothing happened. You stood up after her stepping to hold the door. Perseus rose, throwing his bag over his shoulder he walked out. You followed, leading him to the machine he was supposed to fix, and on the way back to your quarters, the two of you took the stairs.

Yeah, the rescue/escape from Xizor's "castle" (why in gods name are we calling things castles?) is pretty well done, if with moments that are cinematic in a not-good way. (Mostly Guri randomly wanting to fight Luke, though the droids flying the Falcon is a little overly silly.)
After that, it's back downhill. Partly because people have started teleporting again (I hate that) and partly because the protagonists have ridiculous amounts of plot armor so they can survive Xizor ridiculously having his own navy. Because of course he does.
And then, in the end, its Vader who saves them and destroys Xizor. Which feels more like a cheat than it should. (Though it's written such that Xizor could have escaped. Maybe that's what irritates me about it.)
And then, in the end, we're ready for the beginning of Return of the Jedi. Which would be fine if the book were better.
Moral of the story: when you write a book, the things in it should make sense. This book violates that repeatedly. We don't even ever get an explanation of why Boba Fett didn't go straight to Jabba's palace. People just...do stuff. So there can be a plot. And somehow almost all of the bits that tie into the movies undercut them somehow.
All in, a disappointing read. And one that didn't even answer what Dash Rendar would be like in the hands of another writer since he was barely in the book even when he was in the book.
In the hands of another writer, he's a complete nonentity?
Bah.

The Princess' Shadow about child Leia Organa being kidnapped by Darth Vader who learns she's his child.
Forget who I was tagged by.

Star Wars: The Dark Side (Canon)
“Star Wars: The Dark Side” is a Canon reference book written by Tricia Barr that was published on December 6, 2018. Only releasing in Spain and France.
Tumblr media
Pg 75 (red page): “Surgical reconstruction of Emperor Palpatine on Coruscant. Several of the assisting droids that participated in the sophisticated surgery that saved Vader's life were later relocated to the castle, including medical assist droid DD-13, surgical droid 2-1B and medical assist droid FX-6. The latter, the FX-6, was the same droid that built General Grievous and, under Vader's supervision, continued to design and implement improvements to the Sith Lord’s outfit.”
Tumblr media
Pg 98 (grey page): “Many have been caught in the conspiratorial web laid out by the Dark Side’s thinking minds. Queen Admidala of Naboo was guided in the political sphere by Sheev Palpatine, who used his youthful idealism for his own political benefit during the crisis of the Naboo Trade Federation. General Grievous' insatiable desire to improve his combat techniques led him to accept the cybernetic implants advised by the Sith, which made him more of a machine than a Kaleesh.”
Tumblr media
Pg 181 (black page): “For this reason, the Sith enlisted acolytes with special abilities and a fierce hatred of the Jedi, such as General Grievous and Asajj Ventress. Grievous had already demonstrated his talents as a warlord on his native planet of Kalee: he hated politics, but revered being at the head of the galaxy's greatest military force. A brilliant tactician, Grievous couldn't beat a Jedi in a duel, so he agreed to receive cybernetic enhancements to boost his combat capabilities. The cyborg general led the Separatist droid army, enabling him to engage in direct confrontations with the Jedi he hated so much.”
Pg 183: “His lair contained many spare parts, and he had the advantage of being able to afford to lose a limb or two in battle: this could slow him down, but not stop him. However, Grievous' conversion to cyborg had not been perfect, as evidenced by his constant coughing. This information was stored by the Sith for possible future conversion: each repair he underwent improved their knowledge of how to use technology against their enemies.
“Deprived of their identity and renamed with a number corresponding to their entry into the ranks, the Brothers and Sisters of the Inquisitorius perverted what the Jedi stood for, using a method totally different from that of Grievous.”
Tumblr media
Pg 213 (white page): “Trained by Count Dooku in the art of lightsaber combat, the Kaleesh cyborg General Grievous killed many Jedi during the Clone Wars and kept their weapons as a trophy. Served the Confederation of Independent Systems as Supreme Commander of the Droid Army. His tactical acumen gave numerous victories to the separatist faction. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi confronted Grievous on several occasions, forging a bitter rivalry that ended with a final face-to-face confrontation on Utapau.”
“Exalted by the glory he won in battle, Grievous attached the greatest importance throughout his life to the deeds of war. He had cyborg implants added to enhance his combat capabilities.”
“Ever since he was a child, Grievous had worshipped the warlords of his home planet, Kalee: he'd seen them return from their expeditions with the spoils of war stolen from the peoples they'd conquered. He made a meteoric rise to the rank of warlord, then embarked on space conquests. Grievous soon realized that the Jedi were virtually unbeatable in duels, thanks to their supernatural abilities and use of the Force, and developed a fierce hatred for them. The Sith, who were researching technologically enhanced beings, made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Beyond boasting of having been trained in the Jedi arts, not much is known about his conversion into a cyborg or his training with Count Dooku.”
