Kashief Lindo - One Breath

NEW RELEASE The latest single by Kashief Lindo, One Breath, is produced by the late Everald Metcalf and released on Florida-based Heavy Beat Records. The lyrics for the inspirational song are penned by Willie Lindo, who together with his son Kashief did the drum programming and guitars. Also Robbie Shakespeare (bass) and Robbie Lyn (piano, organ, and keyboards) contributed to the relicked version of the classic Queen Of The Minstrel riddim that underpins One Breath. Beginning in 1977, Jones embarked on a music career, securing a record deal with Island Records and initially becoming a star of New York City's Studio 54-centered disco scene. Warm Leatherette is the fourth studio album by @gracejonesofficial , released on 9 May 1980 by Island Records. The album features contributions from the reggae production duo @slyandrobbie and is a departure from Jones' earlier disco sound, moving towards a new wave-reggae direction...” #wiki I first saw Grace Jones in #ianflemming's 1985 film version of #jamesbond #aviewtoakill where she played evil guy Zorin's lover and chief henchwoman. I hated her guts but still found her hot AF. I was 7. Fast forward to hit singles playing on #lebanese #radio I fell in love with her covers of #Piazzolla's Libertango 'I've Seen That Face Before' and #roxymusic's 'Love Is The Drug'. I found 'Warm Leatherette' in 2015 while doing one of my favorite hobbies at one of #beirut's record stores and bought it because of the title which is a song by #TheNormal aka #DanielMiller - the man behind @muterecords . The lyrics of "Warm Leatherette" reference #JGBallard's controversial 1973 novel #Crash, which had heavily influenced Daniel Miller. I got hooked on the album because of Drummer #slydunbar and bassist #robbieshakespeare's contributions to it. Old friend Kenshiro Sahn (@alklazam ) had introduced me to them when we first shared music in 2005 - their work has transformed #jamaican music. They have also worked with #bobdylan and #therollingstones to name a couple of legends. The last 48 hours have been rough: we lost one of the greatest music and cultural critics of the modern day, the single most influential bassist in Jamaican music history, and one of the last true piano talents of the bebop era. 1. @avantgroidd came into my line of sight in the late '80s when my fascination with bands from the downtown scene in Manhattan hit a frenzy, and eventually to his writing in places like the Village Voice, NYT and ArtForum . Greg Tate wrote some of the most blisteringly incisive pop culture observations with a lot of fire and devoid of pretense. He also was a fantastic leader of the outfit Burnt Sugar. 2. Robbie Shakespeare was one half of the single most recorded and broadly influential rhythm sections in pop music history. He, along with Sly Dunbar, played on literally thousands of recordings, with Grace jones, bill laswell, Joe cocker, Mick jagger, Peter tosh, madonna, Bob dylan, simply red, sting, tricky, no doubt...it's staggering. 3. The #BarryHarris image I actually published a few years back, as I was finally starting to get familiar with his contributions to jazz, including stuff he did with Yusef Lateef, and Cannonball Adderley, but his influence is far more extensive, and even though he was almost 92, his death by covid still seems quite tragic. #art #drawingpractice #gregtate #robbieshakespeare #barryharris.
