Day 9: George Nader (1921 - 2002)

Actor George Nader, who acted in such films as Sins of Jezebel (1953), Congo Crossing (1956), and The Female Animal (1958), was discreetly gay throughout his acting career. He was in a committed relationship with his life partner, actor Mark Miller, for 55 years. Nader and Miller were very close friends with similarly closeted actor Rock Hudson.

Nader is perhaps best remembered for his first starring role, in the campy low-budget 3-D sci-fi film Robot Monster (1953), which has been called "one of the worst films ever made".

While Nader was closeted throughout his career, he did not feign relationships with women to throw reporters off the scent. When asked why he wasn't married, he would just tell them he hadn't met "the one" yet. When this wasn't enough, he and his partner moved to Europe, where Nader found success in a series of German films.

I'm bored I'm ranting. So, you know the sentinels from X-Men. Giant genocidal robot cops. And something that bothers me is that I don't think the comics/movies/etc. have ever acknowledged that these fuckers would absolutely be weaponized against the general population, not just mutants. No way they made them several stories tall and gave them lasers and mechanical tentacles to round up mutants one at a time, those shits would be used for massacres. Entire towns/cities/nations gone. All justified with "the sentinels must've detected mutants". Any person they want gone? Deploy a sentinel and say they were secretly a mutant. No fucking way that men so angry about a single genetic difference that they made genocide robots about it wouldn't use those robots against other marginalized groups. But of course they wouldn't show the sentinels in that way because that would go against the copaganda.

there's a bit about them that makes for an all-engrossing package to me.

(amy is like my favorite sonic character so i'm already really partial to anything involving her….!)

like first it's what we are provided with. in canon they do not have many instances of interacting and in those moments that they do it's usually just a "good guys (amy with sonic and co.) vs bad guys (eggman and his robots/metal sonic)" sort of thing. altho fortunately for me their /first/ instance is metal kidnapping amy in cd (their origin) so i feel like that's 😋 we got started on the right foot. outside of that most of the appeal of the ship is in their < potential > since canon hasn't provided us with much else.

amy has a lot of goodness in her heart and will try to see the best in everyone and has given several "bad guys" in sonic second chances. so why not extend that to metal? metal sonic is a fascinating case where it's like his *entire existence* revolves around being better than and beating sonic so if removed from that (no longer being a tool for eggman) its like? what is the meaning for his existence? a lot of fans have amy try to help metal realize his own potential or the sort... so it's pretty sweet and uplifting to see in that sense...

i've been so head over heels with all the fan depictions i see of them too. i feel like that's sort of a rare scenario... usually with ships i like i'll find i like a depiction and then be at odds with over half the fandom for not seeing the characters like i do FKDJFK

theres lots of “oooooOoo” portrayals im especially a big fan of. i love a sweet wholesome dynamic with them obviously. i love depictions where theyre like bffsies and amy has metal tag along for her shopping and “typical girly activities.” i love the toxic (yandere?) spin where it’s like metal tries to take advantage of the fact amy loves sonic and he’s like “im him (but better)” like ive seen instances of him with donning skin and pretending to be sonic in a sort of "bad end" scenario.... lots of yummy flavors....

so yeah! lots of reasons that make them spark joy for me. maybe one day i'll be more thorough about it (neocities shrine im looking at u...) :3c

Had a dream where I was watching an animated series or like the pilot for one (I think it was fanmade or something) where some unknown new villain started taking sonic characters and like. Changing them to be their lackeys or something. And professor victoria was part of it too? Like I think she was helping the villain for some reason idk all I really remember was that shadow got caught and changed first and then sonic and eggman did too
