I really liked it…

Quick notes:

-Singer’s voice took a LONG time to grow on me. Like those first few listens of St. Louise is Listening were ROUGH. But I gotta say once you get used to it I really think it’s unique. That distinct deep gargle to his voice is really well-suited for the music.

-There were at times almost dnb-like drums in the bkgd that surprised me. They incorporated those super well.

-This feels like one of those “greatest of all time” albums… Y’know, the ones RYM and AOTY elitists will be like “you NEED to listen to this.” Not in a TPAB or OK Computer kinda way, but like a Velvet Underground or Dummy kinda way where it’s a little more underground. Not an insult, rather a compliment, as I really feel cozied up in that corner of music discourse honestly. Something about it just screams “RYM-core.”

-That being said, it also kinda feels like stoner music… It brings back memories of a friend I had whose mom would listen to stuff like this all day. It’s got a weirdly nostalgic feel.

-I don’t know if it’s bias because it was my first song off the album, but St. Louise is Listening is definitely a fave. Like that’s a 5-starrer. Holy fucking hell everything about that song is perfect in an unconventional but beautiful way.

-I don’t think there was a song here I’m anything less than lukewarm on. Will need relistening, but I was shocked by how good this was, and I’ll need to check out more.
