The Wicked Witch of the East

Unlike the Wicked Witch of the West, the Wicked Witch of the East doesn't really have an iconic image aside from a pair of colorful stockings and slippers that either silver or ruby.

Which means there's a lot more creative freedom to design her. Now I know that there are technically official artworks of the Witch of the East, but she all look like a generic old witch with a pointy hat and broomstick. One book from L. Frank Baum, The Tin Woodman of Oz, did mention that the Witch lived in a hut, implying for being the dictator of the Munchkins, her lifestyle was actually quite humble. And that's fine and all, but I feel like a witch who wears silver shoes or ruby slippers should be someone more vain. Someone who adores her looks despite being so old that she literally vaporize into dust upon death and contact with the sun's light.

And few Disney villains come to mind. Madame Medusa, Ursula, and of course, Yzma. I primarily used Yzma as the prime inspiration (you can see it with the pale blue skin and face) and even listen to her cut song Snuff Out the Light, particularly these lyrics:

You really can't blame a girl for trying

Because I viewed her as a vain witch, I had her dressed in a rich blue dress that reminiscent of a 1920s dancer with wild 80s hair and a lot of makeup and dyed hair. Give her the iconic red and white stockings combined with silver decorations to match the shoes (except for a ruby on her ring, which acts as a source of power and a reference to the ruby slippers, and sapphire earrings), and you got yourself a campy, over-the-top tyrant that the Munchkins would be glad to see being squashed by a house.

a calmer morning exodus

Ok so I mentioned my insane villager hunting luck I been having in animal crossing new horizons with my second island yesterday, and i just have to go into detail just how lucky I been with getting the ones I been wanting xD will also talk about a bit about my island overall as I can't help myself!

So first off, I started this island on April 13 or started to reset for it at least, got it on April 14 the one I went with, but I did change the date so that I would start on the 24th of February as I felt that would be a good time to start, and then I could just time travel forward several times a day.

With the island I wanted I had 3 musts haves, 1: the river mouths can't both be facing south as that's how my old island is like, 2: I want a big pennisula, and lastly 3: I wanted either Muffy or Frobert as a starter villager, as I wanted to keep one of the originals on this island as I didn't with my first, I preferably wanted Frobert since I been keeping Muffy on my original so I could one day move her to this second island I been wanting to do. And after over a day of resetting I finally got Frobert as my starter jock, alongside Renée which is fine but I so did not want her, but I also got all the other things i wanted, I even got the fruit I wanted most aka apples, as it was the fruit I wanted the most but would been fine with any!

The only downside with the island is that I got the yellow airport that I already got on my first island and that the pier is very short, but I will live with that! ((also sadly I am forced to take photos off my switch for this so sorry for the quality of the pics))

Also at the start I played completely offline with no updates so I could get my hands on the old second stage of the museum, since I wanted to test and see if a thing I know is possible with some pokemon games were possible with acnh, which it was!

If you want to know how to get it so do you need a physical copy that do not have the 2.0 update and also a switch that have never run animal crossing before, or have your switch factory reset as otherwise it won't work and the updates will be there already. And then you just get the museum to upgrade once and then make sure not to donate any diving sea creatures and Blathers will not be talking about upgrading it at all. I sadly could not check if I could finish the museum besides the diving creatures as I was dumb and didn't think things through after I updated the game!

Anyway, then it was time to hunt for the next 3 villagers, the must normal, peppy and lazy, forcing me to update so i could transfer over a shitton of nook miles tickets I been saving up on my first island, exact 120 tickets, and later on I been using treasure islands just to get all the tickets I been needing.

First so called dreamie I been wanting to get I found in like 20-30 tickets I think on April 15 or 16th, so happy I found Kiki first as I been so excited to get her!

Then the same day I found Bella who I been wanting for awhile too and I got her with only like 5 tickets left of the original 120!

But then I began my hunt for the lazy villager, and I knew I wanted Lucky the most!

I now realised I forgot to explain my theme a bit, my theme for this island is going to be this witchy overgrown spooky island with lots of swedish influences etc, originally was going to be more gothic but I changed my mind xD either way I spent like 100 or more tickets trying to find him but nothing, even though I had only lazy villagers appearing I just had no luck finding him at all!

Heck I found Punchy, my all time favourite villager, 10 times before I decided to take Bob instead for now, who I also had been planning to get but at a later date, but I then remembered that finding specific cat villagers is really rough when they are not limited to lazies, so I went and got him even though I had skipped him twice already but it took like 50 more tickets before I got him on April 17!

And you might be wondering why Bob he doesn't fit the theme, that's the sole reason why he is there because he doesn't fit in and I find it funny xD

But after they all moved in it was time for the camp site, I luckily didn't get a smug I disliked as I got Zell, and after he moved in Renée wanted to instantly move out, giving me the chance to go and get Muffy from my first island on the 18th, who I kicked out using a amiibo card of Cherry, as I been wanting her back onto my island for ages! I did forget to take a screenshot of it so heres a pic of the map instead! ((Skogen just means forest in swedish))

I then time traveled through the next 2 weeks of the game hoping to get Zell want to move out but with no luck, so decided to start hunting for the next villager instead by putting down a plot.

And I found her after like another 100 tickets or so, maybe less, Freya who originally was going to have the snooty spot taken by Diana, but who I decided to change to Freya instead!

Then Zell finally wanted to move out and I got to hunting, specifically wanting to get the smug villager I wanted which was Henry the most.

And I found him after like 100 tickets on the 22th!

Then on the 23th I was hunting to get either Roscoe or Ruby, while I was waiting to get a Lucky amiibo card I decided to buy as it felt like I just did not see any dogs while hunting, so was like oh I might as well buy this one I been looking at for awhile. But of course on that day after suddenly seeing a bunch of dog villagers, who do I find:

Of course I find him the one that I literally spent money to get and then I didn't need it, I am still so frustrated at myself for that but there was no way I was going to leave him there xD

Then on the 25th I began to hunt for either Roscoe or Ruby, I preferably wanted to get Roscoe as I really wanted to get him before I got 3 stars and have K.K visiting, wanted him for the cutscene etc, but after 200 tickets that day I had no luck.

But the next day the 26th I did with probably another 100 tickets I found Ruby, while I was wearing her shirt and everything.

So now it was only Roscoe left, and I had like 30-35 tickets left, so I went and got 400 more from a treasure island as I felt so strongly this would take a long fucking while.

It did not take a long fucking while, instead last night where I had changed the date to the 27th as thats how I usually did for these hunts, skipping to the next day so it adds up later etc, I did 10 islands while at my desk before deciding to go lay down in my bed for the night, and then I went to my 11th island of that night...

AND GOT HIM! LITERALLY FOUND HIM IN 11 TICKETS! And I am still both so happy and so miffed at the same time, what am i going to do with all these tickets I do not need anymore? Who knows xD but damn am I happy I got him so quickly.

And with that I got all my villagers:

This is my whole planned villager line up, and I now skipped to the 28th as I wanted to get Roscoe to start moving in before checking how many stars my island have, and somehow it got fucking 3 stars already with no effort on my part, so I am good to go and finally start working on my island proper xD

So yeah, that's my stupidly good luck hunting villagers, I am still so shocked it went so well, especially since I recall been so stressed hunting for my first island and ended up with autofills etc, but this time I knew how things worked, had acess to treasure islands to get them tickets easily, and it was just very chill to sit and do and I am so excited to get started properly! And I now done the math and realised this took just over 2 weeks total in real time to do haha why is my luck like this gnkenjkgejk

Anyway thank you for anyone who been reading this far, I appreciate you as this was fun to write down! ❤ I might show more screeenshots in the future of my progress we shall see!

behold, all art of wit i have including one i havent posted here bc i never actually finished it and the wip of him being a silly giggly boy. pls know i came up with him like MAYBE a month ago. two, tops.

SO wit is actually a what-if au of another oc of mine, his name is doodle. doodle (seen below) is a very robin-hood-esque oc, honorable thief and kindhearted, swashbuckler rogue that dual wields rapiers bc hes insane. but hes insane in like a normal way. he was a horrible child but he did grow out of it and its rare to see him w his hair down so pardon me making him look absurdly pretty in that one.

as you can see there are some (but not MANY) differences between the two. kid wit does have the starry hands/peets im just forgetful dont @ me about it djdjdj

ANYWAYS so the what-if of the au that wit is, essentially, little singular things didn't happen to people in that au world. it goes like so;

wit: never met his childhood best friend when he was a freshly injured orphan. was alone from the (elf) ages of 0-16. ended up studying magic (illusion wizard) since he didn't have someone to lean on for that sort of thing.

laika (wit's mom): never truly broke out of an archfey's madness curse. stuck with a very twisted version of the spell Tasha's Hideous Laughter burned into her mind. everything is funny and if it's scary? even funnier. she died briefly. shes back now, but still madnessed.

perseverance (wit's dad): never saved his mother from a death blow in the be-all end-all fight to save his home. was held back by someone who he thought was a friend, killed that person and then ultimately spiralled so hard that he became a lich. may or may not have accidentally killed laika.

something something one decision can change your whole life, me and my friend loved playing with that concept.

okay now that you know a lil lore/history i can dive into what wit is like.

as a kid (drawn with the short megafloofy hair) he's very mischievous and bastardly, almost always smiling or grinning but it's more to lean into the uncanny valley effect his eyes cause than out of any actual joy or anything. he doesn't Blink and he knows it unnerves people because he also has a freakishly high insight (i think its like a +9 or smth??? at level 9??). he loves to come up with fucked up spells, like. for example i saw a silly post on here the other day that was very jokingly having a wizard cast a spell of "10000 bricks until you die" but then i was immediately aware wit would (1) come up with that spell, make it functional, and have it unfortunately obliterate everyone that gets hit with it, and (2) he would call it Wit's Bricks which i think is fuckin funny. he would also come up with spells of like. cause heatstroke. boil all fluid in your body. FREEZE all fluid in your body. he's a little freak with extremely low empathy for those he isn't connected to with blood ties. that said, he's kind to his family (albeit very blunt and will call them out if theyre being stupid) and inquisitive. he DID look his dad in the eye when he met him for the first time and went "are you dead?" which. again, hilarious, but BRUTALLY blunt. he then called his dad cool because yes his dad is now a lich and therefore undead. he's a little freak but he's still a kid and that is ultimately his saving grace, what small child isn't a little freak.

as an adult (long ponytail) i get a feel of him being aro and using romance as a way to manipulate people. he's definitely still not a good person and far more stoic than he was as a child. also he most definitely maintains a constant illusion to make it seem like his eyes are always closed, which lends an air of mystery to the strange elf that seems to always be standing right behind every throne in every kingdom of faerun. i say this because i like to think he would become what's called a King's Wit, which is like a combo of royal advisor, court mage, and "guy the regent has insult other nobility since insults are beneath the reigning royal". he uses all of that to his advantage, gaining the ear and trust of every single person of noble blood that is part of any royal or ruling court, and he will bend and twist their choices so subtly that they won't realise he led them to ruin until it's already too late. which is his ultimate plan. he's STILL somewhat a robin hood style of character, but he takes it a bit further and with far less kindness to the nobility. he guts their coffers completely and every hoarded coin down to the last copper inevitably will land its way conveniently into the lap of the common folk. he does take a healthy chunk for himself - did you know being a wizard was EXPENSIVE in dnd btw? i didnt until i made wit - but most of it is for the local citizens. he does this everywhere he goes if he sees that it needs to happen. fucker topples kingdoms For Fun, because he never gets caught or credited with the ruin he leaves behind himself. he's awful. he probably still comes up with fucked up spells and he manipulates his way into wherever he wants to be. i love him.

RUBY

behold! @polterpumpkin drew my (not very) little guy for me! this is part of a greater set but this is the fully coloured one and arguably my fave bc it captures the absolute batshit energy ruby brings to the table.

ruby is a tiefling that was born in a lab. voluntarily, his parents participated in a sort of study that wanted to eval why it is tieflings could be born to non-tiefling parents. (both his parents are half-orcs, interestingly!) he participated in it up to a certain point, before he got sick of being poked and prodded and Watched. that's when he demanded to be released and, when he wasn't, both his parents helped him escape, unfortunately leaving his other two tiefling-born siblings behind in the process. both parents Died helping him escape, and he was embittered as is by the whole study bs, and then to have his parents die Saving him? it left him with this sort of hole he didn't know how to feel.

so he fills that hole with every vice he finds agreeable. he drinks, he fights, and he drinks again. he's a drunken monk, and one full of unbridled rage and a death wish. he isn't my happiest oc but he isn't my worst off (that would be talisman bloodhunter). he's constantly seeking a grand and worthy cause to die for, literally. he's a wannabe martyr, because he doesn't think he has anything to live for. no lovers, no friends, no allies, MAYBE a coworker or two on the occasion he's needed (he is so not needed most of the time, because it isn't often any job needs an angry monk tief to glare around the place). he has just those two sides to himself - party animal and underground drunk brawler - because he doesn't want to think about the pain underneath them both. he's tragic in a very human way, hilariously enough, but he's not a bad person. even if he's being dragged by the tail to do a job, he's ultimately going to be helpful and he ALWAYS keeps his team alive. he'll grumble about it but he'll do it, and if you thank him he brushes it off, muttering something or other about how it's just his job, don't Thank him for that. i think having a friend would Fix him but fuck if i know what would get past his thick skin 😔

i dont get to play or write ruby really, not for any specific reason other than the dnd games im in have been going for So long, and that i havent really been super inspired to write him. but i love him! literally my car is named after him! i have so many feelings for him and i hope one day i get to play/write him so he can be more fleshed out.

Hello ♡ It's been a while!

It's been over a year I think? I haven't kept track tbqh

I'm not really back, because I want to be noncommittal as possible (since I have a tendency to disappear when my motivation to write does)

But this is me saying that I'm finally working on under the rose again! ♡

I'd all but abandoned it months ago, but yesterday I had a burst of energy and managed to write a couple hundred words. Tonight, the total is 1300. It's not much, but it's a start!

I don't talk about my personal life for many reasons, but this year has been one of the most difficult I've ever experienced. The last thing on my mind has been Will and Azul, as much as I wish they'd kept occupying every inch of it like they used to.

That spark is coming back, I think! ♡ (More in the tags since this is getting long)
