Here are some additional ideas that you can use as inspiration for each day's themes! You don't need to follow these prompts at all, but feel free to jump off of these ideas.

Day 1: Sunday, October 27:

Horror AU: Make an AU of your favorite horror movie, show, video game, or book. Feature Mike and Will as the villains, or as the final ones standing.

Demo Creatures: Demogorgans, Demodogs, and Demobats, oh my! Revisit our favorite creatures from the Upside Down. Will Dustin’s beloved D’Artagnan make a reappearance? Or create a brand new kind of Demo Creature!

Summon: Will the Wise and the brave paladin Michael are summoned to complete a quest! Or maybe at a spooky sleepover, Mike and Will accidentally summon a demon.

Day 2: Monday, October 28:

Masquerade: Will kisses someone handsome at the masquerade ball, but they had a mask on - was it Mike or someone else? The party shows up to the ball to have a good time, but are surrounded by enemies in masks. Hidden identities, lots of dancing, and a raucous good time!

Turn it Upside Down: Explore the Upside Down, whatever that means to you! Will and Mike go through a gate into the Upside Down, or flip the whole ship on its head: Willow and Michelle around Halloween, underexplored AU’s, flipped ship dynamics. Go crazy with it.

Spell: Enchantments, curses, and magic. Has Hawkins been placed under a spell this Halloween? Will the Wise casts a spell, or has to undo one.

Day 3: Tuesday, October 29:

Graveyard & Zombies: Buried bodies, graveyard shifts, and ghosts. Will and Mike work at the graveyard and have to stop an undead army from rising, or maybe that’s just where they share their first kiss. The “Zombie Boy” nickname still stings Will when it’s thrown around at school, or maybe not so much after Mike fights their bullies.

Young Byler & Old Byler: What did Mike and Will get up to on their first, second, third Halloween together? How do Mike and Will celebrate Halloween once in college, or in their 20s, 30s, 40s, or 50s? How are they spending Halloween in 2024?

Haunt: What still haunts Mike and Will all these years later? Mike searches for Will who is haunting him while still stuck in the Upside Down. Mike and Will bravely face the Hawkins Haunted House, or move into an actual haunted house as adults.

Day 4: Wednesday, October 30:

Pumpkins & Skeletons: Will and Mike carve pumpkins together, make a pumpkin pie, or investigate the mystery of the rotten pumpkin fields in Hawkins. The party fights against skeletons come to life, or a mystery in Hawkins begins when an unlikely skeleton is found.

The Party: Any and all Party Halloween shenanigans! Explore party dynamics during the spooky season, from pranks to trick or treating. What was the party’s first Halloween together like? The party attends or hosts a Halloween party.

Transform: Transformations of any kind! Werewolves, vampires, Frankenstein, or just the kind of transformation that happens when you are stuck in the Upside Down for a week.

Day 5: Thursday, October 31:

Costume Contest: The party is going all out for costumes this year! Or is it just an AU? Dress Mike and Will up in historical clothes, clothes from your other favorite fandom, or anything else! No matter what, Mike and Will are dressed to impress this year.

Trick or Treat, Freak: A perfect day to appreciate our beloved season 2 Halloween episode. Ghostbusters, Max Mayfield has joined the party, Will sees a shadow in the sky. Crazy together.

Sweet: What’s Halloween without candy? Mike and Will share their favorite candies, or maybe they’re just being extra sweet to each other this Halloween.

Day 6: Friday, November 1:

Movie Night: Whether it’s the whole party or just Will and Mike, at the movie theater or just hanging out in the basement: Byler is cozied up and watching their favorite Halloween movie. Or, what if the party is making an amateur horror flick?

Hawkins Lab: What goes on there, and how are Will and Mike involved? Mad scientists, dangerous experiments, and kids with powers.

Fire: Bonfires to keep our boys warm on a chilly October night, the fire under a wizard’s cauldron, Will the Wise casts Fireball, or a dark night lit only by candlelight.

Day 7: Saturday, November 2:

Fortune Telling: Look into the crystal ball and tell me what you see! Will or Mike get their fortune read and things go awry! Horoscopes, tarot reading, palm reading, tea leaves: does knowing the future make things easier, or so much worse?

Season 5 Era: Time to daydream about our season 5 era! Speculate about what spooky things will happen based on the behind the scenes pictures. What does the next Halloween after season 4 look like for Mike and Will? Is there still time to trick or treat when the world is ending?

Shiver: “He’s right behind me, isn’t he?” What has Mike and Will shivering with fright: a supernatural creature, something ancient and mysterious, or a strange deadly virus that has the whole town shivering? Mike and Will get trapped somewhere cold. Will insists that “he likes it cold.” Or maybe there’s just a chill in the air - it is autumn after all.

🏁 While we intend to run this tournament as legitimately and professionally as possible, it's worth saying that obviously, this is for FUN and is not meant to taken seriously nor as a definitive way of saying one Voice is better than the other. I just wanna do the Stupid Tumblr Sexyman polls with Voices.

🏁 It's also obvious, but we are not associated with BlackTabbyGames and the title is only for bragging rights and for show. Nothing more, nothing less.

RULES:

Submission:

🔍 From 28/4/2025 to 12/5/2025, we will take Submission of the themed Voice designs from various artists across Tumblr. With the tournament starting on 12/5/2025 or the following day(s).

🔍 Only Voices submitted through the Google Form are accepted. Although reblogging is appreciated to spread the message.

🔍 There are SIXTEEN (16) spots open on the tournament bracket. If we fill all of the spots before the 2 weeks are over, then I will make a post telling its closed. But the tournament will still start on the 12/5/2025.

Tournament:

⛓️ The Tournament will be a vote. 2 Voices are pitted against each other, and the one with the higher vote move onto the next round. Very simple.

⛓️ Each round will last for a week to give people time to vote, make propaganda, reblog, what have you...

⛓️ The Winner will receive the title of "Voice of the Sexyman" for life, because I don't plan on doing repeats.

⛓️ HOWEVER, I do intend to do this for at least a couple, if not all, of the Voices. So if you miss this one, don't worry. There's 11 crowns after all ~♡

⛓️ Only one tie allowed per tournament for the sake of the mod's sanity and for the flow of the tournament. (But mainly for my sanity)

HD Wireless Fest 2025

🎵 RULES AND GUIDELINES 🎵

🎶 Prompting:

Prompting opens Sunday January 12th 2025. 

You may submit up to five (5) prompts. These can be named or anonymous. We trust our prompters to abide by this, even if they are prompting anonymously. You do not have to be creating a work for the fest in order to post a prompt. Anyone can prompt!

All prompts must be a SONG. Instrumental songs are allowed. All songs with lyrics must be in English. 

There is a space to include any extra prompt details that you would love to see incorporated. If you wish, you can also include a maximum rating and any squicks you would prefer not to read/see (for example, Maximum Rating: Explicit. No MCD).  Please note that these are for inspiration only and creators may not fulfil all aspects of your wishes.

We also allow self prompting! You can either prompt the song you wish to write, and then take your chance claiming it (but bear in mind, someone might beat you to it!). Or you can simply wait and submit your self-prompt as your claim when claiming opens.

We allow multiple prompts for the same song as long as the prompts themselves are significantly different to each other. If we receive a prompt twice, one with additional information and one without, we'll remove the prompt without any additional information, even if it was the one submitted first! Therefore, we encourage you to include additional information with your prompts.

🎶 Claiming:

There is a cap of 80 claims for FIC. There is no cap for ART or PODFICS. Claiming opens on 2nd February and will remain open until the 31st May. If we reach our cap of 80 claims for fics, we will close claiming for fics but claiming will remain open for other media.

This is an 18+ fest, and we will require all claimants to confirm that they are aged 18 or over.

Prompts will be awarded on a first come first served basis. 

Please choose your top three prompts when claiming, in order of preference (i.e. your top prompt as prompt choice 1, second choice as prompt choice 2, etc). This is in case your first choice has already been claimed, we can offer you your next preference. However, if you’ve got your heart set on just one prompt, you are welcome to submit the form with just the one prompt! You might be lucky!

You can only claim one prompt at a time. If you finish creating the work for your prompt and have posted it to the fest collection on AO3, you may claim an additional prompt in the normal way, if claims are still open at that time. If you are unsure please email us at hdwirelessmod@gmail.com.  

If you claim a prompt and subsequently feel unable to complete the work, please inform us as soon as possible at hdwirelessmod@gmail.com. We understand that life can get in the way! Unfortunately, however, in such circumstances, you won't be eligible to claim a further prompt for 2025.

You will receive an email within 48 hours confirming your successful claim. Please respond to this email within 72 hours to confirm your participation in H/D Wireless.

Writers and Artists: 

Each prompt can be claimed once for fic and once for art.

You may claim for BOTH fic and art at the same time, either as an individual or in a collaboration with another creator. If you are doing a collab please email us at hdwirelessmod@gmail.com to confirm.

Podficcers:

We will be allowing people to enter podfic recordings of fics from previous years of HD Wireless fest. To enable this we have compiled a list of previous Wireless fics where the creator has indicated to the mods that they give permission for their work to be podficced. 

You can access the Podfic Prompt List HERE.

To sign up to create a podfic, please claim the fic you wish to record by completing the claim form.

Each fic can be claimed once for podfic. We will inform you by email if your claim has been successful. You may indicate a second and third choice, on the off-chance that your first choice is unavailable.

We are not accepting podfics of any fics that are not on our podfic prompt list. However, if you see that any author (not on our list) has written a fic for Wireless and who you believe does consent to their fic(s) being podficced (either by having confirmed to you directly, or they have a blanket permission statement on their profile), please email the mods with the name of the author, evidence of the permission, and we will make a determination on a case by case basis.

🎶 Creating:

Fics and art should use the song prompt in some way, but this is very fluid, so feel free to interpret it in your own creative way.

For fics, there is a minimum word count of 1,000 words and no maximum.

HD Wireless is a Harry & Draco Fest, so the main pairing should be Drarry. However, you are welcome to include any other pairings too! That includes past relationships for either Draco or Harry. It is not mandatory for your fic to be endgame Drarry, but we would ask that you tag the fic clearly if that is the case.

All fics must be beta-read (If you are unable to find a beta please let us know), and podfics should ideally be beta-listened for accuracy and audibility before submitting. 

Submissions must be completed works. Please do not submit a draft for a fic that has not been completed (e.g., single chapters of a chaptered work).

All submissions must be in English or include a translation.

We do not accept any works created with AI.

As this is an anonymous fest, all creations must be individual works, and cannot be part of a series, or a prequel/sequel to an existing work. If you are planning to continue the work with either of these, please do not reference this in your creation (including in your creator notes) until after the works are revealed and the fest is over.

❗ Please be aware that AO3’s Terms of Service only allow for ‘short quotations’ from copyrighted materials. For this reason we ask that you be mindful about your usage of lyrics in your creation. For more information, and for links to further information, please see our previous post on the issue HERE. ❗

We encourage you to be inspired by the prompter’s additional details, but these are not required to be incorporated into the creation. You may also wish to take into consideration your prompter’s squicks when creating. This is not a requirement — but we ask that you do not gift the creation to the prompter if you are not taking the squicks into consideration, and as always, be sure to tag your work appropriately.

This fest employs a mixture of both anonymous and non-anonymous posting for creations: All fics are posted anonymously, however for art we allow artists to include watermarks on their creations if they so wish. Podfics will also be posted anonymously, but podficcers are allowed to state their name in the podfic recording itself (not within their notes on the post). Due to the anonymous nature of the fest, we wish to keep all creations completely anonymous until reveals (for fics) or posting (for art and podfic) and as such we do not allow for works to be discussed prior to the relevant reveals. This includes discussing it in a public forum while creating it or while the fest is underway. If you are looking for an alpha or beta reader in a public forum please keep the information provided in public channels to a minimum.

🎶 Submitting:

Once you have completed your work, it’s time to submit! Submissions are due June 15th, but if you are finished before this date, you are welcome to submit early.

Submission Requirements:

You are required to add ‘hd_wireless_mod’ as co-creator when uploading your fic, art or podfic. This is primarily so that we can change the posting date, add in the standard fest end note and a tag for HD Wireless 2025. We will not make any other changes to your work, and we will remove the mod account after reveals.

Add your fic to the hd_wireless collection. All works must be posted directly to the AO3 collection here.

Podfics should be linked to the original work using the AO3 ‘Inspired By’ function, i.e: “This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work” and pasting the URL of the original fic. Please state the title, author, rating and any Major Archive Warnings in the audio intro of the podfic. Any art or images used for cover art should be copyright-free or have the consent of the artist. Any music used within the podfic should be copyright-free.

Please tag appropriately: Be sure to include all appropriate warnings, tag your work correctly and please be mindful while choosing your tags. We enjoy a fun tag as much as the next person, but customised tags may be recognisable to some readers, and give you away. As such we ask that you think very carefully about your tag usage.

Acknowledge your creative team in your notes! We want you to acknowledge the people who supported your creation! This includes alphas, betas, cheerleaders, and anyone else who helped you along the way! However, as this is anonymous, please do not mention these people by name, as this can sometimes be a way that creators can be identified. A good way to do this is to use a pseudonym for them, or simply refer to these individuals with an initial. Please do remember to come back and fill in the real names after reveals!

Please include your song prompt (artist and song) in the creation notes at the beginning of the work to share the inspiration of your work.

Complete the Submission Form. The submission form and author note must include the claimed song only, including a link to YouTube. We can not accept Spotify links on the submission form as not everyone has Spotify and we want to make this as accessible as possible.

The below information will be asked for in the submission form. We will acknowledge a successful receipt/submission once the creation has been uploaded and the submission form completed.

The mods will proof all fics and podfics and inform you if there are any additional requirements or suggestions. Please check your emails regularly to see if we’ve sent you a message regarding your work.

Please don't change the date on your creation. The mods reserve the right to remove your work from the collection if we see that the date has been changed during or after the fest.

Your work must remain in the collection for at least six months. If you remove your work from the collection before that, you may be banned from participating in the fest for the following year/s.

🎶 Dropping out:

We understand that life gets in the way and you may not be able to complete your work in time to submit. Or the muse just up and leaves. It happens! If this is the case for you for whatever reason, please let us know as soon as possible at hdwirelessmod@gmail.com. You do not need to provide a reason for withdrawing.

While dropping out is fine, if you ghost us (i.e. fail to respond to our check-ins or communications), we may not allow you back the next year. We understand that things come up, but we expect our participants to show us the respect of responding to our emails, including letting us know if/when they are no longer able to participate.

If you have ghosted us in previous fests, please reach out to confirm your eligibility to participate. If you informed us you were dropping, you're fine. But we need to know that our participants will respond to emails and reserve the right to exclude you from the fest based on past fest behaviour.

🎶 Posting:

Posting will begin on July 1st.

The mods will post your creation on the scheduled day. We do not release the posting schedule in advance as this is subject to change.

Once your creation has been posted please be mindful not to reveal yourself as the creator.

We ask that you do not respond to comments on your creations until after reveals. This is to ensure that you do not identify yourself in your response. Additionally, responding after reveals can be a lovely way for the commenter to find out who created the work they loved so much, and discover your other works!

While we hope that it will not happen, sometimes creations receive negative comments. If you receive a nasty or critical comment, please contact the mods via email asap. We have a process for handling these events, but we will work with you to do so, and only step in to deal with it if that is your wish.

🎶 Further information:

The prompts are not available to be claimed unless you are participating in the H/D Wireless Fest itself. Once we post the final reveals, the prompts are no longer being used by the fest, and if you have found something you are particularly inspired by, please message the prompter to ask for their consent for a work to be created outside of the fest.

For general questions about the fest don’t hesitate to contact the mods at hdwirelessmod@gmail.com (we don't regularly check Tumblr for new messages and asks, so sending an email is the best form of communication). But keep in mind that we're operating in multiple time zones, that we need to eat, and sleep, and take care of real life responsibilities, hence we aren't available 24/7. RULES - Eternal Rivals Creator Challenge

ABSOLUTELY NO ABUSE, BULLYING, TROLLING, OR ANY OTHER SORT OF TOXIC BEHAVIOR WILL BE TOLERATED - this is a friendly competition with no end-game other than encouraging our community to create and have fun. Insulting or disparaging other creators in any way (including inciting discourse on or about their posts/fanworks) will result in disqualification, and depending on severity, a ban from the community.

NO REPOSTED ART - any writing or drawing used for this competition MUST be newly created, and MUST be your own; no AI creations will be counted or accepted, and any art that is reposted or stolen will result in disqualification and a ban from the community.

ADDITIONAL KKG COMMUNITY GUIDELINES APPLY - that means sensitive content must be tagged appropriately, and no incest, student/teacher, adult/child shipping will be permitted. NSFW fanworks are allowed but must also be tagged appropriately.

MUST BE KAKAGAI RELATED - other ships or characters can appear in your works, but the focus must be KakaGai. This does NOT have to be limited by your assigned team - ie, you can write Gai POV if you are on Team Kakashi, etc.

NO LATE SUBMISSIONS - unlike our other events, this challenge will not count late submissions - and yes, this applies to us procrastinating mods! All fanworks must be posted and tagged by midnight on the last day of the challenge (Monday, June 2nd).

PROMPTS CANNOT REPEAT - while you can choose any prompt you want each day, you cannot repeat prompts for your submissions; each work must be associated with only one prompt at a time, and cannot have more than one fan work for the challenge attributed to it.

BONUS PROMPTS - points for same-day bonus prompts will only be counted if the work is posted within 24 hours of the prompt announcement (Tumblr post must be time-stamped accordingly). You may complete a regular prompt on the same day you complete a bonus prompt if you wish (or if you're insane).

POINT SYSTEM - we will not be debating or accepting challenge of the point system - this is strictly for fun, the points really don't matter, please do not take this so seriously.

HD Tarot is a new Harry/Draco fest which uses the cards of the Major and Minor Arcana as prompts for fanart and fanfic. No prior knowledge of the Tarot is necessary to participate!

We encourage everyone to browse our list of the 78 Tarot cards (with links to their full meanings and interpretations) to see if any of them spark interest in any way.

The cards are the prompts. For artists, this means that you will be recreating your assigned cards in the style of Drarry, whereas writers will be using their assigned cards’ meanings to write their stories.

The art piece needs to incorporate the name of your assigned card, and reference the symbolism and themes associated with that card. Other than that, there are so many ways that Tarot cards can be interpreted—from literal to abstract—and we are happy to see your unique take on them!

The standard Tarot card size is 2.75’’x4.75’’ (7cmx12cm), so (at 300 dpi) the file resolution needs to be 900x1500 pixels. 

All art submissions will need to contain alt text to ensure accessibility for participants using screen readers.

Claiming for Fic

There are three options to choose from for fic claims:

You will need to add the hd_tarot_mod account as a co-creator when uploading your works to AO3. This is so that the mods are able to sort and backdate all entries before posting. The fest mod account will be removed from all works on AO3 once reveals are up.

Please ensure that you tag your work appropriately and list any relevant warnings.

HD Tarot is an 18+ fest. Participants will need to confirm that they are over the age of 18 when claiming their prompts.

The fest is anonymous, which means all submissions need to be original and not part of an ongoing/existing work on AO3 or anywhere else. Please also refrain from sharing any sketches and/or writing snippets publicly until after fest reveals are up. (You can, of course, discuss the fest and make it known that you’re participating!)

Prompts are assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Only one prompt claim can be made at a time. However, if you complete and post your assigned prompt to the fest collection on AO3 before claiming closes, you are welcome to claim another prompt. 

Each card can be claimed once for art within the same fest cycle. This is because the overarching goal of the fest is to form a full Drarry Tarot deck at some point! If the Airtable prompt masterlist shows that a card has been claimed for art, then it’s no longer available for claiming in this fest cycle. 

However, all cards will be available for claiming in each subsequent fest cycle—we’re planning on labeling them as low priority in terms of the Drarry Tarot deck goal, but artists will be able to claim them next year even if they’ve already been drawn during a previous fest cycle.

Each card can be claimed multiple times for fic within the same fest cycle. That is why the claim form will not show that a prompt has been claimed or blocked out for fic. 

We do not accept works created with the use of AI.

Event Breakdown

Now that all participants have submitted their forms, we will move on to the next course of action. The event will continue as follows:

All participants comfortable going first will be added to a randomiser. Once a starting person has been selected, those comfortable going last will be randomised. I will reach out to the selected first and last people and confirm if their estimated date range works for them - if the date range doesn't work for one or both, I will restart the process until both parties confirm. When everything is settled, the remaining participants will be randomised, assigned a date range, and reached out to. After each participant has agreed to their dates, the Timeline will be posted. To keep things simple, the event will officially start on Sunday, 30 March 2025 at 00:00 UTC-5! After the first person has completed their contribution of the corpse, the second person will be contacted at the beginning of their date range and given the last five lines of the fic or a cropped portion of the fanart. This chain will continue until the corpse inevitably finishes.

Due to higher participation rates this year -- we will be running two corpses concurrently in an attempt to avoid this event going into June/July 2026! What does that mean for you? Nothing! The event will continue as normal - don't think too much about it.

- Outreach Timeframe

Below are the deadlines for outreach and date range confirmation:

February 28th — The first and last randomised participants will be contacted. They will have until Sunday, 2 March 2025 at 00:00 UTC-5 to confirm their date range. March 2nd — If one or both participants cannot complete their date range, alternates will be selected. They will have until Monday, 10 March 2025 at 00:00 UTC-5 to confirm their date range. March 13th — All other randomised participants will be contacted. Because this group will be much larger and may need more changes, they will have until Thursday, 27 March 2025 at UTC-5 to confirm their date ranges. March 29th — The official Timeline will be posted. March 30th — The event begins! The first person starts the exquisite tomarrymort corpse and has two weeks to finish and submit their contribution. This pattern will continue and repeat until the corpse finishes (decays).

- Submission Requirements

Free Rein is still in play - however, to maintain consistency, here are a few things requested of each participant:

- All participants must submit their contributions to the corpse via Dropbox. Doing so will help keep everything consistent, easily mergeable, and manageable when transitioning to AO3.

Each participant will receive an individualised Dropbox link to submit their portion! You do not need a Dropbox account to submit - do not share your link.

Please send me your last five lines or the cropped/altered version of your art separately via your preferred contact method so that I may pass it along to the next participant!

- All fanart participants must submit their contributions to the corpse with a link to their art. Feel free to send the link separately or within the submitted Dropbox file. Doing so will help with image embedding when transitioning to AO3.

- All writing and fanart participants should edit their fics/fanart panels for proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar to the best of their ability. If you can't, please contact a beta reader for editing.

- All writing and fanart participants should exclude any explicit material in the contributed portion that is passed on to the next participant! No explicit material should be present in the last five lines of the fic or within the cropped portion of the fanart sent.

“Explicit material” is defined by AO3 guidelines as content containing explicit adult themes, such as porn, graphic violence, etc. Which includes some of their major archive warning tags.

HOWEVER - via overwhelming majority, NSFW is allowed this year! All participants are over 18 and unanimous in the inclusion of NSFW. Please be mindful and continue to follow AO3 guidelines for explicit material.

- Optional Guidelines

- Aim between 500 to 2k words; or 1 fanart scene with a small amount of dialogue to 3 scenes with no dialogue (no pressure). - Here are some randomised words to help inspire you: dialect, board, revoke, log, layout. - If all else fails, pick a classic Tomarrymort trope: Time Travel, Dark Harry, Soulmates, Harry and Tom Grow Up Together, Forced Proximity, Voldemort Wins, etc. and apply it to the portion given to you. - Don't focus on making a cohesive story/narrative; that's quite possibly the last thing we want. Review the portion sent to you, and just create until you feel things have suitably gotten out of hand or until you think you've confused the person after you well enough. - Keep in mind that the ultimate goal is to have fun. (And submit what will likely be the most extraordinary Tomarrymort AO3 story that ever was, of course.) If you aren't having fun, please reach out; I'll do everything in my power to help you have fun.

Final Notes

From my rough calculations - the event will finish sometime on or before Monday, 10 November 2025 at 00:00 UTC-5. Now, this is a long timeframe. If anything changes your availability in the meantime, please let me know as soon as you can. With enough notice, we'll be able to make a quick and painless swap with someone further down the list. T&N is a canon divergence fest for the All For The Game fandom, accepting fic, art (any medium!) and podfic.

Our 2024 theme is Then & Never: Canon Divergence, which means all your creations must exist within the canon universe, but you can go off-course when it comes to the narrative.

The concept of Canon Divergence and Alternative Universe coexist in a lot of situations. Fanlore’s definition of Canon Divergence refers to it as “a term used in some fandoms for fanfiction set in a universe that diverges relatively narrowly from canon, with a point of departure in a character's backstory or during canon.”

Keeping the integrity of the universe is essential to keep it CD instead of a full AU, which means the majority of canon and the universe as we know it has to remain the same. Essentially: change one thing but leave the rest untouched. For example: the tag No Exy is an Alternative Universe because Exy is vital to the canon universe and for the canon narrative to develop, but Mary Hatford Lives would be Canon Divergence. Other examples could include ideas such as: Andrew and Aaron don’t renew their deal for college, Erik moves back to the US with Nicky, Neil grows up in the Nest, Kevin brings Jean along when he escapes. 

Everyone Lives and Different First Meeting are common subtropes of Canon Divergence. This idea usually answers “what if” questions about the original narrative, like “what if X never died,” “what if X and Y met earlier,” “what if a villain was a good guy all along,” “what if Z happened earlier in the narrative,” etc. We’re looking for slight changes to canon rather than a complete overhaul of the universe as we know it. 

The fest’s only real requirement is that your creations focus on canon divergence. It’s entirely up to you what pairing or pairings (or none at all — your creations don’t have to feature romantic/sexual pairings) you want to feature, what length/medium and what rating you want to go for. We trust you to tell whatever story you want to tell and make the right choices for it. As long as it’s canon divergence, the world is your oyster. Have fun!

TIMELINE

The prompting period will be from September 8th to September 14th.

The sign up period will be from September 15th until the 21st and you’ll be able to either claim a prompt from the list or sign-up with your own idea.

Artists, writers and podficcers will then have until the deadline on October 19th to finish and post their creations.

Posting will start on October 27th and we will stagger the posting of your creations so that everyone has time to read, enjoy, and hype up every creation. 

Reveals will happen on the 15th of November.

Let’s go through what every step entails:

PROMPTING

Prompting will open on September 8th, and will end on September 14th. Anyone can prompt and you can prompt as many ideas as you’d like using our form.

Once you open the form, you’ll be asked for the following info:

- pairing (if applicable)

- your prompt (this can be as detailed or as vague as you want it to be)

- if your prompt is nsfw (so that creators browsing the prompts can filter those out if they want)

- your ao3 username (optional)

This fest isn’t an exchange so all prompts are there for inspiration in the first place. Creators do not have to include every single detail of a prompt if they pick it, but do have to use the main idea as a starting point for their works. If you leave your ao3 username when prompting, the creators can choose to gift the fic to you, though this isn’t at all a requirement.

Note that if you’re wanting to write your own idea, you don’t have to prompt it and then claim it later. There will be an option for self-prompting once sign-ups open!

SIGN-UPS/CLAIMING

The prompt list with all the available prompts will be live from the moment prompting opens. Prompts might take a few hours to pop up after being added via the prompting form but you’ll be able to check the list every day during the prompting period, so you can start gathering potential picks to claim.

Sign-ups will open on September 15th. Please note that while claiming was open until the deadline last year, you only have until the 21st to sign up this time around.

The sign-up form will ask you for your name, ao3 username and an email we can use to contact you. Email will be the main form of contact between the mods and the creators so please keep this in mind when signing up.

You’ll be asked to specify if you’re creating art or fic, and if you’re claiming a prompt or self-prompting.

You can then pick a prompt from the list to claim it if that’s what you’re doing, or leave a short description of your idea if you’re self-prompting.

For the sake of the form, podfics count as art. If you’re podficcing, please leave the link to the original fic in the prompt box.

There will also be a box for any questions/comments.

The prompts left during the prompting period will only be available for claiming once for art and once for fic. 

The option to sign-up as a team (either co-writers, co-artists or a writer+artist team) will be available. Co-writers will be asked to sign-up only once, and leave the information that you’re co-writing in the questions/comments/concerns box. Writer and artist teams will be asked to each sign-up individually, but let us know that you are collaborating in the questions/comments box, too.

Creators will be limited to one prompt.

CREATING

Submissions must be completely new and finished works. Unfortunately, this means no sequels for previous fics or comics you may have, and no finishing WIPs you’ve already started posting.

Even though this is an anonymous fest, we understand the rampant issue that is reposting and art stealing, so all artists are allowed to submit watermarked/signed works. You will also be given the option to take part in the fest and post your work to the collection, but for it to be posted after reveals, so it’s never anonymous.

There is no minimum word count for fics. We trust that you know the best way to tell your story, and only ask that your works are tagged appropriately and follow the prompt (if applicable) and theme.

Having your fics beta-read isn’t a requirement, but if you’d like yours beta-read and don’t know how to reach out to a beta reader feel free to ask the modding team and we can get you in touch with someone! 

Podficcers are welcome to choose any fic previously posted on Ao3 that fits the Then & Never theme to read/record, as long as the original poster allows for podfics of their work to be made. 

As you know, the fest will be posting anonymously so we ask you to be creative when sharing wip snippets. We trust you to know what would easily identify your fic once it posts and what is vague enough to slip through the cracks ;) 

We will NOT be accepting AI-generated art or fic.

DEADLINE; CHECK-INS, EXTENSIONS AND POSTING

We will be emailing every participant during the creation period, but your final deadline for posting is October 19th. You can submit your work as soon as you have it done, though.

You’ll get detailed instructions for posting to the collection via email, and we’ll post those on both tumblr and twitter closer to the posting date. Following these instructions is crucial so that your work ends up in the collection and remains hidden until we post it and anonymous until reveals.

We’ll be sending every participant a check-in email during the creation period, but we promise that isn’t as scary as it sounds! We won’t be asking you to show us what you’re working on, or how much you have already. We just want to make sure you’re having a good time :)

If you need to drop out, please don’t hesitate and do not feel guilty. Shit happens, we get it. We only ask that you do it as early as possible, so we can adjust the posting schedule accordingly. If you need a few days past the deadline to finish, we should be able to give some people extensions too, just keep us in the loop.

There’s a lot of behind the scenes invisible work put into this by your modding team so we’d rather be told “hey, I’m really sorry but I’m not going to meet the deadline” than being ghosted. We’re all adults here, let’s respect each other’s time and efforts.

It is our priority above all that everyone enjoys taking part, so we’re here to minimise stress and worries. 

When posting, don’t forget to add AFTG Then & Never 2024 as one of your tags and post your work to the collection — this will make sure it remains anonymous and hidden until we release it out into the world. Please don’t leave any references that reveal who you are before the anon period is over. You can add all your usual social media links and other potentially-revealing info when reveals happen.

There will also be a form to fill in with your name, the title of the work you submitted and the link to the work, that you can fill once you’ve posted. The link to this will be shared with you in the posting instructions email :)

(A little note: after you hit 'post' the work will be hidden in the collection until we reveal it, so the easiest way to get to it should you want to edit or just to copy the link is to go through your stats page.)

But don’t worry, we will be reinforcing all of this as we go along!! This is just so you have all the information in one place!

Once your work is posted by us, remember to change the date to the day it’s posted so it appears on top of the list for your pairing/the fandom, instead of the date you submitted it into the collection.

Unleashed! is an anonymous drarry fest that welcomes works in which (an) animal(s), i.e. a magical or non-magical pet or beast, or an animagus or a patronus, must play a significant role. 

Accepted works include fic, art, craft, and podfic.

You may submit as many prompts as you like, using your name or anonymously. You do not have to create for the fest in order to post a prompt.

Claiming

This is an 18+ fest. Please do not sign up if you are under 18 at the time of claiming (May 16th 2025).

You can only claim one prompt at a time. If you finish your prompt, you may claim an additional prompt. If you have finished your first prompt, and wish to claim another, please submit your first work as per submission guidelines before submitting another claim form. Claims will be awarded on a first come first served basis.

Collaborations are welcome. Please only submit one claim form per collaboration and include the details of all participants.

If you wish to create based on an existing fanwork, please submit it as a self prompt. We will only allow art, craft, or podfic for existing works with the original creator’s permission. We would expect written consent or a blanket permission statement from the original creator as proof. You can browse blanket permission statements of creators here.

Creating

This is an anonymous fest, so please keep the details of your creations to yourself. Please do not discuss your creations with anyone except for your beta readers and the fest mods until the reveals have been announced.

All creations must feature an animal as a prominent part of the work. This includes magical and non-magical pets and beasts, and an animagus or patronus.

For fics there is a minimum word count of 1000 words, no maximum. For podfics the recorded story should be a minimum of 1000 words, no maximum.

AI generated works of any format are not permitted in this fest.

All fics must be proofread. Podfics should be proofed before submitting. If you are unable to find a beta, please reach out to the mods.

Submissions must be complete works created for this fest. Please do not submit incomplete works or works that are a part of a series or a prequel/sequel to an existing work.

We encourage you to be inspired by the prompts’ additional details, but it is not a requirement to incorporate them into your creation. You are not required to abide by any mentioned dislikes. However, if you plan to gift your creation to the prompter, we may disallow this if you ignore stated dislikes. 

Submitting

All works must be posted directly to the AO3 collection: Unleashed Collection 2025. If you don’t have an AO3 account, please contact the mods in advance.

You are required to add unleashed_mods as a co-creator when uploading your work. This is so we can change the posting date, check the submission, and add a tag for Unleashed Fest 2025 and an endnote. We will not make any other changes to your work without your permission, and we will remove the mod account immediately after the reveals.

Major archive warnings and other seriously triggering and harmful content must be tagged. Here is a very helpful list of warning tags. Given the theme of the fest, be especially mindful of tagging themes like animal abuse and cruelty, pet/animal death, bestiality, pet play, etc. The mods will proof all submissions and inform you if there are any additional requirements for the duration of the fest.

Upon submitting your content, you agree to the Rules and Guidelines of the fest.

Submissions for existing works should be linked to the original work using the AO3 function: “This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work” and pasting the URL of the original work.

We are very excited about the upcoming Byler Halloween week: BYLERWEEN!!! We'll be celebrating all things Byler + Halloween from Sunday, October 27th - Saturday, November 2nd. 🎃🦇👻

We are inviting all fans to create artwork, fanfics, video edits, gifs, moodboards, memes, analysis, and more (the sky is the limit!) for the event to help us celebrate a very spooky Bylerween!

In order to participate, just create a tumblr post with your fanwork based on the Bylerween themes on the appropriate day during the event, and tag us so we can reblog your work to the Bylerween tumblr. No need to sign up!

Tag your posts with which day your post is for (#Day 1, #Day 2, etc) AND which daily theme(s) your post is based on (for example, #Horror AU, #Demo Creatures, #Summon, etc).

All fanworks featured during Bylerween must be NEW.

Late entries are allowed until November 23rd, 3 weeks after Bylerween ends.

Other background ships are allowed to be featured. However, Byler must be included in all works.

🎃🦇👻 TRIGGER & TAG RULES FOR HORROR CONTENT:

Posts with triggering content need to be tagged with the standardized tw tags: tw jump scare, tw gore, tw blood, tw flashing, tw violence, tw cannibalism, etc. The full and comprehensive tw list is here.

For artwork with explicit violence, gore, or body horror: add applicable trigger tags and a trigger warning at the top of the post. Artists should use their best judgement and can put art under a Read-More cut if they think that would be best, but this is not required.
