[ad_1] The duo took time out of preparations for their world tour to thank people for their work to support the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, which carries out life-changing work in some of the world’s poorest places. Back in February the couple took to the streets of Glasgow to launch the charity’s annual WEE BOX, BIG CHANGE appeal for some of the world’s poorest people, who continue to be hammered by hunger and climate change. Ricky and Lorraine also put out an appeal to Largs and Millport News readers for help in the important cause. Each year generous Scots up and down the country give up a favourite treat such as coffee, chocolate, wine or crisps, and put the money they save into a SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund)WEE BOX. They then donate it to provide a hand-up to vulnerable communities worldwide, struggling to survive due to hunger, poverty and the climate emergency. This year, the appeal raised an amazing £1,003,0117. Lorraine said: “We are absolutely blown away once again by the generosity of the people of Scotland in their response to SCIAF’s WEE BOX appeal. In these incredibly hard times, people have once again dug deep and responded to people in dire need.” Money raised from the appeal will support SCIAF’s work around the world. This year the appeal focused on the people of Zambia, in southern Africa, particularly around Kabwe, which is one of the most polluted towns in the world. To survive, most families grow their own food in small plots near their homes – it’s a perilous life, very much dictated by the weather. As their climate changes, life becomes more perilous still. Ricky said the difference the appeal can make to lives should not be underestimated. He said: “When we travelled with SCIAF, it was heart-breaking to see how many families really struggle to grow the food they need or get the necessities of life we take for granted such as water, a dry home or some money. “We would like to say a huge thank you to every single person who has donated. You will never know how much good you have done and what a difference you have made.” Penelope Blackwell, SCIAF’s director of public engagement, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who so generously contributed to this year’s WEE BOX, BIG CHANGE appeal. We couldn’t have reached such a fantastic total without the fundraising efforts of people across Scotland, particularly those in schools and parishes. “The focus of this year’s WEE BOX campaign was Zambia, where people face a daily struggle to find enough to feed their families. Once again, our supporters did not let them down. Up and down the country people gave what they could to help our sisters and brothers living in the world’s poorest places to lift themselves out of poverty. Money from this year’s appeal will support SCIAF’s work around the world to help people overcome their daily struggles, and the structures of injustice that keep them poor. “The response has been amazing, and I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for reaching out in loving kindness.” [ad_2] , 2023-09-02 05:10:00 , #Deacon #Blue #stars #Largs #residents #charity #support for more interesting Article Visit regularly : https://mycyberbase.com/

Monthly Roundup - July 2019
August 2nd, 2019 - the UN Security Council held its Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict (CAC) under Poland’s presidency.
Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict – Statement by Ms. Virginia Gamba
“2019 marks 20 years since the Security Council first passed a resolution on children and armed conflict and the 30th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.”
“Unfortunately, for all our efforts to date, we are not yet at a point where we can be confident that the situation is improving year upon year. The report before you speaks for itself. Although we have less violations across four categories, we have an increase in killing and maiming and similar levels of sexual violence. In last year’s report two figures stand at very high levels: one for killing and maiming (over 12,000 children) and one for children who benefitted from reintegration assistance (over 13,500).”
“This is why reintegration and the consideration of real reintegration needs of boys and girls globally is so urgent."
United Nations Security Council Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict - Statement delivered by H.E. Mr. Richard Arbeiter, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations
“The Group welcomes the recent release of over 13,600 children from armed forces and armed groups and the work of the Global Coalition for Reintegration of Child Soldiers. We stress the importance of long-term, comprehensive, and community-based rehabilitation and reintegration efforts to provide assistance to children and prevent re-recruitment, including in areas formerly controlled by Daesh. Children formerly associated with such groups should be treated as victims first, consistent with resolution 2427.”
“A major focus of Canada’s efforts has been the development of the Vancouver Principles on Peacekeeping and the Prevention of the Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers. The Vancouver Principles are a set of 17 political commitments aimed at preventing and addressing the recruitment and use of children by armed forces and armed groups in UN peacekeeping operations.”
“Canada is losing no time putting this guidance into action. In June, Canada’s Minister of National Defence announced the establishment of the Roméo Dallaire Centre of Excellence for Peace and Security, within the Canadian Defence Academy led by Rear Admiral Cassivi, seated behind me. The Centre of Excellence’s initial focus will be to support our forces’ implementation of the Vancouver Principles. Canada will also be providing the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative with a contribution of over $1 million over five years to conduct research and identify lessons learned and best practices regarding the prevention of the recruitment and use of child soldiers.”

South Sudan opposition groups release 32 child soldiers
“Following the release of at least 32 children, forced to work as soldiers and undertake other roles by South Sudan armed opposition groups, the UN children’s fund, Unicef, has enrolled the boys, aged 13 to 17, in a three-year-long reintegration programme. Unicef is providing the boys, who were released on Tuesday, with food, water, clothes and hygiene items and will also provide formal or vocational education and psychological support to the teenagers to help them overcome their traumatic experiences.”
In photos: life after war for Uganda’s former child soldiers
“Photographer Simon Murphy travelled to Uganda with the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) to document how the lives of former child soldiers are changing. Help includes providing counselling and teaching young people effective techniques for growing food, so they can provide for themselves and their families. SCIAF also supports similar programmes for refugees from South Sudan, vulnerable young people and those affected by HIV and AIDS.”

Will Aid Month - Getting Wills Drafted
Will Aid Month – Getting Wills Drafted
At the start of 2016 I made a to-do list (I don’t do resolutions). Getting my husband and my wills drafted was high up the list. It’s not the most thrilling or pleasant thing to think about, but it’s something that’s really important. It’s especially important when you have children because as well as making financial provision you’re also naming a legal guardian to have responsibility for them…

Catholic charities worldwide join Indonesia tsunami relief efforts

Catholic charities worldwide join Indonesia tsunami relief efforts
Manado, Indonesia, Oct 3, 2018 / 04:01 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Caritas Italy will donate more than $ 115,000 to help the victims of the tsunami that struck Indonesia last week.
A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck 6 miles beneath Sulawesi just after 6 pm Sept. 28. It set off a tsunami, which caused 20 foot-high waves which devastated coastal cities, including, prominently, Palu. The quake also caused landslides and power outages.
More than 1,400 people have died as a result of the disaster, and tens of thousands are displaced from their homes.
Rescuers expect the death toll will rise, as access to some areas is currently blocked by damaged roads and communication lines.
Caritas Ambrosiana, the charity arm of the Archdiocese of Milan, has allocated $ 34,000 for disaster relief on Sulawesi.
Catholic Relief Services and the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund have provided relief funds and teams to address the emergency situation.
As heavy damages have affected access points and infrastructures, CRS expressed it has had difficulty in reaching devastated areas.
“Humanitarian groups are struggling to get people into affected areas,” Yenni Suryani, CRS' Indonesia country manager, said Sept. 30. “With the airport damaged, getting access to Palu and Donggala is a huge problem. Responders and local aid groups are having to drive overland 10-12 hours.”
“That means a bottleneck for relief supplies in coming days. Landslides are hindering road travel in some places. There’s very limited electricity in Palu but power is out almost everywhere. Some mobile phone towers have been repaired allowing limited communication, but it’s unreliable.”
The CRS teams are joining local partners in the area, addressing needs such as tarps, blankets, sanitation kits, and sleeping mats. Suryani said a lack of water and fuel are also a concern which needs to be addressed.
Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund have partnered with Caritas Indonesia and contributed over $ 25,000 to relief efforts. SCIAF Director Alistair Dutton expressed apprehension over the situation and said his prayers would be with the Indonesian victims.

I saw a post saying that a lot of worldbuilding pieces in InCo are pretty fucked up and...
Thank you
...I was always under the impression that I made inCo fairly tame lol. I don't even go into the darker implications of the royal family's religious standing. (I think we can all agree that royalty as the religious head of multiple religious structures is not *usually* a natural event.)
You can read a bit more about that here if you want (it's the timeline) but like...the pledging ceremony, the royal family inclusion in all religious texts, the consolidation of Ewis and Bas (the Axotih and Sciaf Scean gods)? None of those were natural events and those are fun little things you can learn about on the website I never talk about :)
