This is What it Sounds Like
Summary: During the opening night of the comeback tour, Rumi is nervous about her step back into the spotlight after revealing her demon heritage. Years of suppression and shame won't go away just with a song, and Mira and Zoey are starting to notice cracks in their fearless leader.
Warnings: Hurt/Comfort, self hatred, self mutilation, hallucinations.
A/N: Did anyone else hate that Mira and Zoey went to attack Rumi and then they just never discussed it again. Not on my watch. 2.9k words. Also please send in requests for the Huntrix girls.
Rumi thought she would be over this.
The dressing room was just like all the others they had gotten ready in over the years. Same lights, same buzzing chaos. The only real difference was that this time, Rumi wasn’t alone. Mira and Zoey—her two closest friends, the people she loved more than anyone in the world—were right there with her.
And her patterns were on full display.
After the disaster at the IDOL Awards and the chaotic Saja boys concert that followed, Rumi didn’t dare to look at her social media, leaving the task of posting to Bobby. The crowd was under the influence of the now banished Gwi Ma, so the demonic powers of the Saja boys were forgotten, but the image of Rumi’s patterns remained.
They looked different now. Where there had once been bruised-purple striations, there was now a faint pearlescent glow. But when Rumi looked in the mirror, all she could see was that ugly violet stain—and two orange irises staring back at her.
“I’m so pumped to finally be back on stage! Aren’t you, Rumi?” Zoey chirped, slurping noodles through a mouthful of Huntrix-branded ramyeon.
The sound snapped Rumi out of her trance.
Somehow, while she’d been zoning out, the dressing room had come alive. Stage managers were muttering into walkie-talkies about last-minute lighting adjustments. Stylists fluttered around them, brushing glitter onto shoulders and blotting lipstick. Zoey and Mira were seated on the couch, scarfing down instant noodles like they were still trainees.
“So pumped!” Rumi echoed with a forced smile, flinching as a makeup artist dabbed body glitter onto her shoulder—right over the soft shimmer of her patterns.
The strain in her voice didn’t go unnoticed by Mira, as her eyes narrowed slightly.
“Are you sure?” she asked, rising to her feet. “You don’t sound sure.”
Zoey looked up too, concern etching across her face as she joined Mira’s side.
Rumi’s throat tightened. Her eyes stung. The bustling energy of the room was only making things worse.
And then—warmth.
“What’s wrong Rumi?” Zoey whispered softly. Rumi felt the ghost of her breath tickle her ear.
During their hiatus, the girls had talked—really talked. Rumi had told them the truth. Her father was a demon, though she knew nothing else about him. Celine had come up with the plan to conceal her patterns, and once the Honmoon was sealed, they were supposed to fade completely.
She had been afraid—terrified—that once the truth was out, Mira and Zoey would turn on her.
But instead, they held her tighter.
“You’re more than your patterns Rumi,” Mira had said. "What makes you different is what saved us.”
After that night, Rumi felt closer to her girls than ever before.
But somehow, every time she closed her eyes, she saw them raising their weapons to her. Their eyes afraid. Their voices cold.
“How could we be together if we don’t know your lies from your truths Rumi?”
Every dream since then had been haunted by demon versions of her friends, taunting her onstage in the dark.
“So sweet, so easy on the eyes, but hideous on the inside.”
“A demon with no feelings don’t deserve to live”
“We see what you are.”
“You’re a demon. A mistake.”
“Rumi?”
Mira’s voice called out to her, slicing through her memories to pull her back into the present like a lifeline.
They had talked it all out right Rumi shouldn’t still be feeling this way.
She let a single tear roll down her cheek.
“I’m just- I'm just nervous about what the fans will think is all. They don’t know what these patterns mean, what if they think I’m a monster?”
Just like you did.
Zoey gently cupped Rumi’s cheek with one hand. With the other, she traced the line of a pattern near Rumi’s eye—light, reverent.
“The fans…” she murmured, trailing her finger down to the edge of Rumi’s neck, “will think you’re beautiful.”
“Just like we do,” Mira added, leaning in to press a kiss to Rumi’s shoulder.
Rumi felt herself relax under their affections. The memory of that awful night slipped back, fading into the corners of her mind like smoke.
She pulled away and grabbed one of the others' hands in her own.
“Thanks guys.”
They smiled
“Now let's go kill this concert!”
-
Rumi performed flawlessly
The first concert of the Huntrix tour was a huge success. The crowd was electric, singing along to every lyric, waving light sticks in synchronized patterns. The newly sealed Honmoon shimmered in the air above the stage, glowing brighter with every cheer.
Then the post show interview came.
Bobby had scheduled a major sit-down with one of the top entertainment networks as part of their comeback rollout. Since the group’s apparent disbanding during the chaotic IDOL Awards, fans had been desperate for answers. Even with the tour announced, rumors had swirled—fighting, betrayal, broken contracts, heartbreak.
The interview was going smoothly. The girls hit every mark—smiles in place, well-timed laughter, easy banter with the host, heartfelt (but vague) answers about their “hiatus.” It was textbook media training. They were doing everything right. All that was left now was to wrap it up and say a goodbye to-
“Rumi, can you tell us about the marks on your skin?”
The question cut through her like her blade. She froze. Smile plastered on, suddenly hollow. Her mouth was dry. Her breath caught in her chest like a trap had sprung. She couldn’t move.
“Rumi?’ The interviewer asked again after a pregnant pause.
So sweet, so easy on the eyes, but hideous on the inside.
You’re a demon. A mistake
The voices weren't real—they never were. But they echoed anyway.
Rumi prided herself on being kind. Steady. Controlled. But now something hot and ancient stirred inside her—rage that burned like it had during her confrontation with Celine. A primal anger that whispered, they’re afraid of you. They hate you for what you are.
“The marks,” she said, visibly tense, hands clenched in her lap. Her voice taught like a wire about to snap “They show what I am. What I’ve been through. And if people want to call me names because of them, fine. But I won't apologize for surviving.”
Her voice wavered slightly on the last word. Only Mira and Zoey saw the Honmoon—hovering faintly over the room—ripple with a sudden flush of pink.
Zoey gently put her hand on her knee, grounding her.
“What she means,” Mira jumping in smoothly, “is that Rumi’s always been the strongest of us, these patterns just prove it.”
“Oh, well—of course she is! The fearless leader of Huntrix!” the interviewer said quickly, eager to move on. Offstage, Bobby looked like he might pass out.
The rest of the interview passed in a blur. Rumi remembered smiling, waving at the fans through the camera. She hoped it looked real. She hoped it was enough.
-
Later, back in the greenroom, the makeup was off but the ache remained. Rumi sat on the edge of the couch, shoulders hunched, staring at her reflection in a darkened vanity mirror. The patterns on her arms shimmered faintly in the low light.
The room was quiet now. Zoey and Mira had gone to change into their normal clothes. Bobby was somewhere talking to press. For the first time all night, Rumi was alone.
And that’s when the singing began.
A soft, familiar melody—off-key, slightly warped—floated from the hallway.
Takedown, takedown
Takedown, down, down, down
Her heart stuttered.
No one was supposed to be here.
She frantically looked around, telling herself that this wasn’t real. It couldn’t be. Gwi Ma was gone. They had defeated him after the IDOL awards.Zoey and Mira loved her.
They had promised. They had promised, right?
A faint purple glow caught her eye—coming from the corner where the vanity mirror stood.
Part of her still hated looking in the mirror.
She whipped her head around anyways and ran over to see her reflection. There they were. To her horror a grotesque, distorted image of Mira and Zoey looked back at her. Their eyes held nothing but contempt and malice. Their voices rang out with the words that haunted her every waking moment.
“Cause I see your real face and it's ugly as sin
Time to put you in your place 'cause you're rotten within
When your patterns start to show
It makes the hatred wanna grow outta my veins”
They dragged their hands across the Honmoon and summoned their weapons pointing them at Rumi. Only then did she notice her own reflection.
Her patterns were dark again, like a bruise and angry. Her irises blazed orange. Her hands had transformed into purple claws. Sharp teeth. Horns curling from her scalp.
No. No. No.
This isn't happening. I won't become this.
The patterns on her face pulsed with angry light, as if resisting her panic. With a guttural cry, Rumi dragged her claws across her face, desperate to tear the patterns away. They remained—untouched. Her skin, unmarred. The glow intensified, mocking her.
Her scream tore through the room as she summoned her blade from the Honmoon, raising it above her head—shaking, wild-eyed—ready to strike.
“RUMI NO!”
Zoey burst into the room and tackled her just as the blade came down. They tumbled to the floor in a tangle of limbs and tears. Rumi panted, trembling as she looked into Zoey’s terrified eyes.
“Rumi!” Zoey sobbed, holding her tightly. “What were you doing?!”
Rumi couldn’t answer. Her breath came in ragged gulps as she pushed Zoey off her with a grunt and ran back to the mirror.
Her patterns were back to their iridescent shine. But her face bore angry red scratches from her claws—evidence of her breakdown.
Zoey hurriedly got up from the floor and ran over to her. She grabbed a tissue from the vanity and dabbed at the few drops of blood that had managed to break through Rumi’s skin and gently stroked Rumi’s hair with trembling fingers.
“Rumi, what happened?” she whispered, barely louder than a breath. “You really scared me.I thought we said we’d talk about how you’re feeling… not keep it all in again.”
Rumi trembled. The hallucination still clawed at the edges of her mind.
“You don’t know what it’s like!” Rumi blurted out. Her voice rose to a yell “You have no idea how it feels to look in the mirror and not know if you’re the monster everyone fears!”
Zoey gasps at Rumi’s outburst.
The door creaked. Mira stood in the doorway, half-dressed, expression hard to read.
“What’s going on here?” she demanded, eyes zeroing in on Rumi’s torn face. “Rumi what the hell happened to your face?”
Zoey’s soft sniffles caught both of their attention. Tears were softly falling from her eyes.
“Zoey,” Rumi said, realizing what she had done. “I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to-”
Mira quickly crossed the room and wrapped Zoey in her arms, pulling her protectively to her side.“Come here,” she murmured, gently brushing Zoey’s hair behind her ear. Then she turned to Rumi. Her tone softened, but carried weight.
“Rumi... I don’t know what happened to you during that interview, or just now. But yelling at Zoey? After everything? That’s not okay.”
Rumi looked down, ashamed.
“But…” Mira continued, more gently now, “I do know that something’s eating at you. I saw it in your eyes. I felt it when you spoke tonight. You’re scared. And you're hurting. I get it.”
She brushed Zoey’s hair back, soothing her.
“But you’re not alone. You don’t have to claw your way through this by yourself. That’s what we’re here for. But if you shut us out—if you lash out at us—it’s going to feel even worse.”
Mira’s eyes softened.
“Please don’t make us feel like we’re losing you again.”
Rumi didn’t respond. She couldn’t.
Mira turned with Zoey in her arms and guided her toward the door. Just before leaving, she glanced over her shoulder.
She didn’t close it.
Rumi hoped that meant something.
She collapsed onto the couch, breathing in silence.
She looked at the mirror again.
This time, her reflection didn’t taunt her. It simply stared. Her face was back to normal—but the scratches, the wild eyes, the fear—they were all real.
She touched the claw marks on her cheek.
What if it happens again?
What if next time they’re not there to stop me?
What if… I become the thing I’m trying to protect them from?
She curled her arms around herself.
And the Honmoon shimmered faintly, pulsing like a heartbeat.
-
Rumi liked going to the rooftops at night.
Looking down at the city made her problems feel smaller—almost manageable. She watched the Honmoon shimmer in the sky above the skyline, its glow dancing in the same colors as her patterns. The wind kissed the exposed skin on her cheeks, making the fading marks there sting.
Huntrix had finished the second night of their world tour just a day ago. Rumi should’ve been resting.
But she couldn’t stop thinking.
What if the episodes kept coming back?
What if she could never truly feel the love Mira and Zoey had for her? What if she ruined it—again?
Her eyes welled with tears as she tugged at the sleeves of her jacket, trying to hide the patterns on her arms. Since she’d upset Zoey, she’d gone back to covering them. She couldn’t bear to let anyone see them right now.
“You always did pick the dramatic spots,” came a soft voice behind her.
Rumi didn’t turn, but she knew it was Mira.
“We brought snacks,” Zoey added, holding up a convenience store bag like it was a peace offering.
“I got those spicy shrimp chips you like,” she said, nudging her playfully. “I also… might’ve eaten half the bag on the way up.”
The girls sat on either side of Rumi, thighs touching. They were all silent for a moment. Rumi sat as still and rigid as a statue. She was afraid that any sudden movement would break her and show.
Mira’s hand on her thigh was all it took.
“I keep seeing it,” she whispered. “That moment… after the IDOL Awards. When you both—when you raised your weapons at me.”
Zoey tensed beside her. Mira closed her eyes.
“I know you were trying to help,” Rumi said quickly. “I know. But… something in me keeps going back to it. My brain replays it like it’s proof. That the people I love most once thought I was dangerous enough to stop.”
Her voice cracked.
“And then the dreams started. That hallucination in the greenroom? It wasn’t the first time. It’s always you two. But wrong. Demonic. Cruel. Singing Takedown like it was written for me. Telling me I’m a mistake. That I’m rotten inside.”
She wiped her nose on her sleeve.
“And the worst part is… I believed them.”
Mira exhaled slowly.
“You weren’t you in that moment. You were hurting. Overwhelmed. We thought we were losing you.” Zoey said softly.
Rumi shook her head and let out a sob. “But you still aimed at me!”
Mira reached for her hand—slowly, like approaching a wild animal. She waited for Rumi to flinch. She didn’t.
“We didn’t know what else to do,” Mira confessed. She placed her hand on Rumi’s cheek and gently turned her head towards her.
Zoey leaned her head on Rumi’s shoulder. “You saved us, Rumi. You saved everyone. And you still think you're the villain of the story.”
“Because I was the villain of the story,” Rumi said, voice breaking. “We’re hunters. We’re supposed to kill demons. So what does that make me?”
She looked down at her covered arms, her voice barely audible. “My whole life I was told these patterns were wrong. That I had to hide them. That once they were gone, I could finally start living the life I pretended to have. But they’re still here—and now I know they’ll never go away.”
Her breath hitched.
“How could I ever expect you to love me when I can’t even stand to look at myself in the
The silence that followed was thick. Unmoving. The only sound was the wind brushing past them.
Mira was the first to speak.
“Rumi… when we first saw you with patterns, we were scared. That part’s true. We were confused—because we were raised to fear demons. Raised to believe they couldn’t be trusted.”
Rumi flinched, but Mira didn’t let go.
“But even more than that, we were taught to rely on each other. To love each other. And we know you, Rumi.”
She reached over Rumi’s legs, gently took Zoey’s hand, and laced their fingers together. “So if you’re part demon? That doesn’t change a damn thing.”
Zoey shifted closer. Her voice was soft, but unwavering.
“I don’t love you despite your patterns, Rumi,” she whispered. “I love you because you fight through every reason you were told not to. Every lie. Every fear. You wake up and try again. That’s who you are.”
She kept one hand in Mira’s, and with her free one, gently placed Rumi’s hand over her chest.
“This? You already have it. All of it.”
Mira leaned in and put her forehead on Rumi’s.
“We were told to fear demons our whole lives. But I’ve never met anyone with more heart than you,” she murmured. “You carry your pain like armor, but you’ve never once used it to hurt someone. You don’t scare me, Rumi. You ground me.”
She brushed her lips softly against Rumi’s temple.
“We don’t want the version of you that’s hiding. We want you. All of you. Patterns and all.”

Just finished kpop demon hunters and im obsessed!!!! Definitely gonna watch it again immediately after this post lol.
Loved the story, characters, the music, and the animation!!!!!! ❤️🔥
The story starting with a explanation of generations of musical demon hunters is so interesting. I wanna see more of these ladies!!!

Queennsss!!!!! 👑
I love our girls!!! Its so hard to pick a favorite i love all three of them!!! Mira is so cool and I adore her style (shes just like me fr), I love Zoey and her personality, shes so adorable and loyal. I really enjoyed the depth of Rumi's personality and development.

They're so fun together while still managing to have their own faults and flaws. I like that Mira is closed off due to her past with her family. I also really enjoy how Zoey is a people pleaser, and a little disjointed due to growing up in America and not knowing who she is.

They all have problems that effect their relationship with music and each other.
Seeing Rumi's backstory and knowing that she was basically raised to hate herself was devastating. It makes sense that she keep such a big secret from her group. It was all she knew.

Wasn't crazy about the boys, but jinu did grow on me eventually. When he started being honest.

With that being said Mira's constant anger and annoyance about the boys and their abs was literally me!

Finally let's talk about the thing that made me most angry... Celine!!!! 😡

This lady is lucky shes not real, because the audacity! I kept thinking about how pretty she was and how I'd like to see more of her. Right up until the end.
Rumi literally shows up in front of her asking Celine to kill her, and she still can barely look at her. But then has the audacity to say she loves rumi, if you loved rumi she wouldn't hate herself!!!!!!

My jaw was on the floor and I was angry crying that whole scene. Then I was just regular crying the last 10 mins of the movie!!! 😭
10/10 loved this movie!!!!!!! ❤️

Ok I was thinking about making a whole ass fic about this myself, but seeing your taking Hunter/x requests I thought I’d pitch this to see how you’d imagine it.
I imagined Amab Reader (I was thinking a guy best friend thing for Rumi) but knowing u don’t write men I’ll pitch this as Masc GN.
They grew up with Rumi, trained to be hunters with Rumi and eventually became Hunter/x dance/choreographer, that’s been in love with Rumi since the day they met, but they’ve never told her.
Mira and Zoey know but never outed them to Rumi, they go through the movie helping the girls and watching Rumi fall in love with Jinu, and they take it pretty well, it hurts like hell but all that matters is Rumi's happiness.
Eventually we reach the events where the girls find out Rumis a demon and Mira raises her weapon to her and Reader steps in between them and they all argue, basically the conclusion of the argument outing readers feelings for Rumi.
Mira is like “You’re in love with a demon!”
And readers like “No im in love with Rumi” cause it doesn’t matter to them what she is.
And I just imagine them and Rumi leaving, she’s still in love with Jinu so that confession doesn’t magically have them together or even kiss now. But Rumi knows, over everything she’s ever wanted.
She has one person that for sure loves all of her. Even the parts she thought were unlovable because even her aunt and pseudo mother couldn’t love them.
But reader is there no matter what, and just holds her as she breaks down, because of all the awful stuff she’s had to endure with her self image, and knowing now that she doesn’t have to feel the shame her aunt instilled in her
Sincerely the Tsaritsa/Pyro Archon Anon

◆ MAIN COURSE: Rumi x gn!choreographer!Reader
◆ TYPE: SFW, romantic
◆ ALLERGEN WARNINGS: None. Maybe like one single mention in regards to how these events would be with a fem!reader but otherwise this is strictly gender neutral.
◆ NOTES: HELLO I DID SEE YOUR OTHER REQUEST AND I WAS GONNA WORK ON IT BEFORE KDH TOOK OVER MY BRAIN 😭😭😭 YES YOU CAN BE ☀️🌙 ANON FIRST OF ALL I' SO SORRY I HAVEN'T DONE THE OTHERS YET AND SECOND OF ALL THANK YOU FOR THE CONSIDERATION ☹️. Anyway read this for? The continuation? Not the right word but alas
It feels like sacrilege to write something about this because holy fuck this is already DEVASTATING as is 😭😭😭😭😭 WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS but god okay here we go
I'm just going to say to get it out of the way bc this is genuinely a thought I have—if this was a fem!reader thing, it'd be another form of devastation. Gonna state the obvious here but K-Pop idols being gay, while they definitely lean into the queer fanservice and it isn't illegal to be gay in South Korea, still isn't widely socially accepted (there are some exceptions that came out but it is VERY MINIMAL). I don't even think it'd ever register to Rumi that you'd ever be interested unless she had some sort of bi awakening or you flat-out spit it out. And even then considering how she was most likely raised by Celine to be a WEAPON in both demon slaying and idol stuff, along with being taught to hide herself, I don't even know if it'd be an easy thing to swallow. But that's just me okay ANYWAY moving on frfr
You two growing up together as childhood besties and Celine training the both of you since you were young gives you a sort of special bond that not even Zoey or Mira have bc I THINK iicr they had their own lives when they grew up before they got scouted by Celine (how tf would we know when they never go into it right 😓). The two of you have the most experience, and the rapport comes the easiest. But as much as Rumi wanted to tell you about her demonic heritage, Celine has it drilled even deeper than you that she NEEDS to hide it—conceal don't feel Elsa type shit
I think Celine would also entrust watching over Rumi (and the whole of HUNTR/X) to you. Since, yk, there's only three people allowed every generation. This opens up the choreographer role, being able to guide them and their movements while keeping an eye on them when Celine can't. Unfortunately this also does kinda put pressure on you NOT confessing to Rumi bc 1) it'd probably end up as a distraction and 2) you don't wanna bother her about it. So at the VERY LEAST you'd be planning to say something AFTER they get the Golden Honmoon and all the demons are banished. Surely that'd be fine right? WRONG
Ever since the Saja Boys appeared, Rumi's been distant. Not just from Zoey and Mira, but you as well, which is diabolical since the two of you are guaranteed attached to the hip. Said two would be the only people that are well aware of your feelings for Rumi, and by GOD they feel bad for you. They're saying that Rumi's just!! Distracted over the upcoming Idol Awards and the Golden Honmoon!!!!!! But you've been seeing Rumi less and less, she's gradually kinda withdrawn and stopped talking to you about her problems, and she gets all sketchy and weird when you knock on her door or anything
The words slip out of your mouth before you could keep it down, "Did I do something wrong?"
Rumi looked up from her lap, her hands lightly pinching at the edges of her hoodie—your hoodie, you notice, the one you gave her one day but never bothered to ask for back because she said it was comfortable and gave good coverage of her whole body. "No?" Her eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly, and she looked genuinely taken off-guard by your question, "I don't.. think so? Why do you ask? Did something happen?"
You shook your head, "No, just.. you've just been avoiding me recently, so I thought I made you upset somehow."
"You know if I was upset, I'd tell you, right? Been doing that since we were kids," Rumi smiled lightly, "even when it was just me tripping over a rock and wanting those cute little bandaids you had."
At one point, you would've said 'yes' without a single doubt in your mind, but recently you've had doubts. Growing up with her meant you basically knew her better than she even knew herself, after all.
You wanted to say 'no' or 'I don't know'. You wanted to be honest.
"Yeah. I do." That's all that came tumbling out. "But I just..."
Miss you.
You shrugged before sitting down beside her on the bed, bumping your shoulders together as you reassured her, though you didn't know of what, "Don't forget you can come to me anything, yeah? I'm not gonna judge."
She doesn't verbally answer, but she does nod and lean on your side. Though you don't dare to look down at her expression—the nagging feeling of paranoia, mixed with the respect you had for Rumi, was pushing you away from prying—if you did you would've seen regret written all over her face.
It only all makes sense at the Idol Awards, when her identity is revealed and you lot all realise she was trying to work with Jinu (clearly it kinda failed since 🤷♀️). It clicks to you Really Easily, why Rumi's been secretive and distant this whole time, and even when it came to other stuff like why she doesn't go to the bathhouse or why she favours things with full coverage and long sleeves even if it was the MIDDLE OF FUCKING JULY!!!! You saw it on the screen, right beside Bobby, and by the time you get to where the girls are, Mira and Zoey have their weapons pointed at Rumi and Rumi is glowing, devastated, inhuman
Do you care though? No duh. So you step in between the two parties with your own weapon. But even you could tell that Mira and Zoey weren't into it at all—they didn't wanna fight Rumi at all
Mira's grip tightened on her glaive, "[Y/N]. Step away."
"No," you raised your own weapon higher, "not before the two of you lower your weapons. What the hell are you doing?"
"What we, as Hunters, are supposed to be doing!" Mira's voice raised, tinged with a mix of disbelief and mournful desperation, "We've been trained under the code of killing all demons for years, and yet she's been working with them the whole time?"
You hear Rumi's voice from behind you, broken, layered with something else, "No, I--"
"Oh, cut the crap! You kept this a secret the entire time and never thought to tell us when we-- when we--" Mira's voice broke off with a strangled rasp, her blade lowering slightly, before she blinked her unshed tears away and held firm with her stance, "If you're not going to help us, then step away."
You didn't move, "No."
"Stop being so stubborn and turn around! Look at her!"
And you did.
You saw her eyes, half a normal brown and half a slitted amber that glowed just like the purple markings that stretched all across her skin. You saw the claws on one of her hands, the way her skin now sported a grey-violet tinge that gradiented into her normal skin colour.
You saw the shame.
Zoey, the quietest you've ever seen her, dematerialised one hand of her knives to tug at Mira's jacket, "Mira, maybe we can just.. leave--"
"You're defending a demon that lied to us--"
"I'm defending someone I love!"
Silence followed, save for the echoes of your raised proclamation that bounced off the walls—
"It doesn't matter what she is, she's still my Rumi. If you really want to kill her, if you really believe that she's nothing but a demon? You'll have to kill me first."
—and the sharp intake of breath from behind you.
If Rumi were to look at the others' faces, she wouldn't see shock—they knew, after all. Instead, their expressions had crumpled. Zoey's hold on her knives had trembled slightly, and Mira had stared at you in a mix of rage and devastation.. before the both of them lowered their arms.
"..Go," you spoke softly, keeping your eyes pinned onto the duo as you spoke to the woman behind you, despite the heartache, "find him. See what went wrong."
Her clawed hand had shakily reached out behind you, but she retracts it in a near-instant with a tiny whimper before running off.
And that's when you slumped to your knees.
"Fuck."
And then the whole thing kinda goes the same way it did until the end of the movie. Rumi's mourning for someone that, by Hunter code, she shouldn't have mourned and yet it's not as if feelings are easy to erase. Not just her feelings for Jinu, but yes her fears, her insecurities, her shame (no thanks to Celine, you find out from her later 😒)
It'd definitely take a while for her to get accustomed to walking around with her markings freely out in the open. This girl's been raised to think she should be ASHAMED of herself for even basically existing, and she has to hide whatever taint her demonic ancestry's given her instead of embracing it. Add onto the fact that she's realised the entire time there was one person who's loved her and WILL love her unconditionally, even when sometimes she still thinks she looks like a monster when her internal doubts get to her? Oh she's crying. And who does she realise holds her every time? You.
"I'm sorry."
You shook your head, "Don't ever be sorry. I.. kinda figured it was best to keep it a secret until it faded away."
"Don't say that," she smacked your arm lightly.
"Okay, yeah, I guess it does sound kind of sad."
"'Kind of'?" Rumi scoffed lightly, though her tone held no heat to it, "Mira and Zoey told me that you've been having this crush for years!"
"Since I first saw you, actually."
"That makes it worse! ..For that long?"
"..yeah." You laughed, mostly at yourself as you looked out at the city from her room balcony, "I don't think it'll go away."
Rumi just watched you, watched how the city lights and the iridescent Honmoon twinkled in your eyes. And she tore her eyes away after a while, resulting in the both of you simply.. city-watching amidst the silence.
But she breaks it after a while, her voice a fragile thing, "..Could you.. wait for me?"
"Hm?"
"I think.. I want to recover. Or, well, unlearn Celine's.. way of the Honmoon." She leans her head on your shoulder, her now-iridescent markings casting a soft glow on your skin and her hair loose from her usual braid, "I want to learn how to stop hiding first. Then.. I'll see. Is that.. okay?"
You looped your arm around Rumi to hug her by the side without any hesitation, "Take as much time as you want. I'll be here."
"..Thank you."
"Mm. ..Besides, who else would choreograph your dances? Mira could, sure, but not as good as me."
"Pfft. Ruin the moment, why don't you?"

Honmoon Gone Right Gone Wrong Au
(...Hmm I might be going to lesbian hell for making my first kpdh au rujinu, and during June too... forgive me, Polytrix, I love you!/lh)
(DW it has heavy Huntrix friendship themes lol)
The girls harmonizing during the Honmoon is a success! Such a success, it banishes all demons from the world!
—Including Rumi's spirt. RIP.
Ok, I don't have the details yet, but in this au Jinu DOES betray Rumi at the Idol Awards BUT, somehow, Mira and Zoey probably don't find out she's a demon until after they harmonize & she gets zapped. Yes I just want the DRAMA of it, we're throwing in all the betrayals & trust issues.
In the human world, Rumi's body is basically in a magical stasis, unconscious. Zoey & Mira are shocked and horrified to see her collapse, and doubly so when they run to her & see the faint demon marks on her. Having no idea what's going on, they get her immediate medical help and call Celine asap.
Rumi, meanwhile, awakes in the demon realm heavily disoriented and in full demon form, which she does not initially realize because Jinu's there, and, oh, that guy just stabbed her in the back. So she probably attacks him (demons have more volatile/heightened emotions?), and he deflects like "Ok chill chill that's not gonna help matters rn"
(She gets a good hit or few in tho bc. C'mon, he kinda deserves it & also she's a badass.)
Jinu is still of course Very Down Bad for Rumi. He saw her flung into the demon realm as well & has been trying to make sure she's ok.
And internally also kind of "🥰 Wow you really are flawed just like me 🥰" and kind of guilty bc wow he really did just take advantage of & expose her insecurities with his backstabbing huh (he has what those in the romance biz call a hell of a grovel before him).
But mostly there to make sure she's ok bc 😬 a demon hunter in the realm of demons???
Ahahaha. Rumi's response is a big fat 🖕🖕to that
Except. She's here without her team, her girls, in a somewhat unsteady form she's not familiar with and despises, in ~a whole new world~ full of enemies. She is a badass but she has limits.
Oh the choices: Trust the guy she already trusted who JUST stabbed her in the back, or go it alone in a world and form against her.
Jinu propaganda: Tiger & Bird 🥺🥺
Forced proximity journey ensues! Rumi is Going Through It. Her friends probably know her secret and hate her now, she doesn't know if she'll ever see them again, this hated side of her is apparently what defines her very spirit if it sent her here, and she's in a hunter-hostile environment
Shit is going down in the demon realm, too. Either Gwi-Ma is weakened/defeated and there's a power vacuum, or he's stronger than ever, idk, either way, the normal balance of things has been radically thrown off and it's more unstable than ever.
Idk what's going on with the demons or the other Saja Boys but I hc the boys as becoming besties so Jinu's thing with Rumi probably complicates matters with them; and Rumi learns to see more to demons and embrace all sides of herself, while still taking into account demons are incredibly selfish beings who fed souls to their master/would typically feed on them if given the chance, and maybe she helps (some of) them like canonically she helped Jinu to realize they can and should be better
Zoey & Mira meanwhile grapple with feelings of betrayal from both Celine and Rumi, as well as self-worth issues because of the rift it's tearing in their found family, and grief and fear over losing Rumi. Their goal is to try to get her back, while Celine argues over whether or not they should—does it not show that she is more like her father, bound to be evil, with her being thrown out? (Celine is also struggling bc that's the child she raised and the last piece she had of Rumi's mother, but y'know she is a VERY VERY flawed parent and something of an antagonistic force)
There's stuff probably with the girls struggling with their families (brought up by Rumi's very public collapse? Or maybe just in Zoey's case, while Mira's come into the picture maybe bc she needs something from them for Rumi).
Also Bobby's there freaking out bc he has NO idea what is going on. Does he maybe get clued in (esp since Rumi's not really in like a coma but a magical stasis) or no...? Idk but he's there and he's also not having a great time poor guy
Idk it's all spaghetti on the wall rn, don't look at this it's mostly for me lol
(That said if anyone DOES read this & get inspired... 👍👍👍)

How They Became Demon Hunters HCs With Huntrix

Rumi
Her backstory is partially explained in the movie, and I built my own headcanons of how her parents met in another one of my post
However it’s very clear that she was raised by Celine to hate her demon side, wanting to hide and even destroy it from a very young age
She was constantly pushed towards being perfect in every aspect of her life, whether that be in sparring, singing, social skills etc
This was all done in the hopes of eventually getting rid of her marks and protecting the world
However, she also thought that being perfect would make up for the fact that she was a mistake
Despite not knowing exactly how her mum died, I believe she would still blame herself; thinking that being half demon brought misfortune to her mum
In regards to her father, she just pictured him as an evil figure that managed to trick her mum and never considered the fact that he may have been a good person
She would also be homeschooled and sheltered for most of her life, any public appearances done purposefully in order to build her life as an idol
Because of this she would be put on a lot of korean variety shows and do interviews when she was a teen in order to get public support early
On the side, she would also train and even hunt demons with Celine so she would be strong enough to lead the next generation of hunters
However the feeling of loneliness would constantly consume her since she had no one that could understand her life as a half-demon, and she didn’t have any genuine friendships at this point
Celine would notice this and tried to reassure Rumi that this was all for the greater good, and that the hunters were all she ever needed
However, this only worked to a certain extent
Eventually though, Celine would introduce Zoey to Rumi for the first time
Rumi finally felt like she could let her guard down a little, instantly bonding with the other teenage girl
She still felt insecure about her demon blood, and Celine warned her to not reveal anything about that side of her so she wouldn’t lose her new friend
So Rumi stayed silent, not saying anything about her heritage even after Mira came to join the group a few months later
Rumi vowed to do whatever it took to protect the world, even if that meant lying to those she loved
Mira
Similar to Rumi, Mira would most likely also be a legacy
However the difference being that not everyone in her family had hunter abilities, so a lot of them had no idea what demons even existed
This was further emphasized by the fact that most of her relatives that did carry these powers were deceased or estranged
Because of this, Mira always felt like the odd one out and never truly knew what made her so different
She tried to express how she felt through her clothing and artworks, but her family- being rather strict- didn’t appreciate her creativity
They refused to listen to her, causing Mira to act out in many ways
She often spent late nights outside by herself, doing whatever she felt like
From this she would spot her first demon, sucking the soul out of someone until they died
She didn’t know how to react, not fully understanding what she was seeing
Once she managed to snap out of her fear she would go to check on the victim, only to find the body was no longer there
From there she would just run, not knowing when to stop until she subconsciously came all the way back to her house
She wanted to scream and tell her parents what happened, but the moment she walked through those doors she realised they wouldn’t believe her and that she was truly alone
She would carry this fear with her as she got older, not truly knowing if there was something wrong with her brain and making her see these things
Sometimes she would try to fight the demons she saw, rarely succeeding due to her lack of proper training
She had to constantly see people because of this, traumatizing her even further
One day however, she was listening to a song and began singing, not noticing the demon in front of her until it began to get repulsed by the music and ran away
She tested this out the next time she found one, blasting the song towards it while fighting
This is when she realised the demons were weakened by the music
She’d track down the artist of the song, eventually finding Celine in a fan meet and trying to see if she knew anything about the monsters she was seeing
She’d try to be subtle at first, not fully revealing everything she saw just in case Celine thought she was crazy
Mira got her contact information, and was told to meet her in a couple days
From this Celine realised Mira also had hunter abilities, and began to train her in secret
Mira’s parents wouldn’t care about her extended absences, relieved that their daughter was no longer getting in trouble with the police or acting out at home
Celine would reveal what hunters and demons were, explaining their history
Mira was skeptical at first
However, with everything that had happened, she had no choice but to believe Celine and for the first time in her life she didn’t think she was crazy
They trained together for a couple months before Celine introduced Mira to two other young teenagers who had the gift; Rumi and Zoey
From then on Mira finally felt like she had a family, and would do everything she could to keep them together
Zoey
Zoey would be a partial legacy, with only one side of her family knowing about demons and hunters
She didn’t know of her abilities at first, thinking all the monsters she saw as a kid were just a figment of her imagination
Especially since by the time she looked back, one of her family members would be there innocently waving and telling her to go play
It wasn't until she was older was it revealed that she had hunter blood inside her, and that she could begin training to become one
Zoey would be ecstatic, believing she was a real life superhero; wanting to tell all her friends and the rest of the family about it
However, this idea was quickly crushed as it was explained to her the importance of protecting their secret; not wanting to worry others with matters they couldn’t control
They also believed it would keep the non-hunter family members safe if they didn’t know about demons or Gwi-Ma
From then on Zoey had to live a double life, training and hunting demons in secret while also pretending to be a normal girl
This was exhausting, especially since she hated lying to parts of her family and felt as though they couldn’t understand her if they didn’t know who she really was
Then with her hunter relatives, because they were all older than her, she constantly felt like she skilled enough to keep up with them
Therefore she was constantly trying to prove herself to both sides, being the perfect kid and warrior at the same time
Her only solace was writing lyrics and using them against demons, feeling as though this was the only time she could unapologetically be herself
However, all these negative feelings eventually began to hinder her training, since she felt too alone and unworthy to focus on fighting
One of her relatives got the idea of contacting a friend in Korea, sending Zoey there to meet them
She was then introduced Celine, who empathised with her difficulties living a double life
Being an idol and hunter, she understood the difficulties that came with lying to those you loved
However, she assured that Zoey that her fellow hunters would always be there to understand her
For a while, Celine assessed and developed Zoey’s skills, impressed with how she could make her own songs in such a short period of time
She then introduced her to Rumi, the two of them instantly connecting over this feeling of loneliness
To Zoey, it felt like they were the only people in the world that understood each other
When Mira came a couple months later, they welcomed her to their small family
Zoey couldn’t believe there were others her age who felt the same way she did, and never wanted any of them to feel alone again

Alternative Plot for the film K-pop Demon Hunters (this will contain possible spoilers!) :
I think it would’ve been such a good plot beat to have Gwi Mah be Rumi’s dad and could’ve led to an evil Rumi scenario where we could see Mira and Zoey having to save her from herself and giving into her demons, this would’ve also led to more screen time with the Saja boys and possibly revealed any of their backstories.
For example I thought that even if they didn’t have their human memories they may have fuzzy memories from where Gwi Mah erased them leading to character development through talking about how they don’t know who they are anymore, and then they all could get saved at the end and defeat Gwi Mah together. This would’ve also explained the lack of names as they only see themselves as defined by the labels such as Romance, mystery etc. in order to fool the fans into supporting them, leading to a scene where they talk about this lack of identity which could’ve linked to Rumi not accepting her full identity and them with the help of Mira and Zoey realising they can find themselves after defeating Gwi Mah.
I think the saja boys becoming good could’ve also given really cutesy ending scenes where they learn about modern things since they’re ancient demons, like them all acting like scared cats due to seeing Huntrix using modern appliances. They also don’t necessarily have to be romantic with Huntrix with more focus on their platonic relationships with each other.
Either way I still love the film, and these are just some personal headcanons I have!
Also I’m aware that the Star Wars I am your father thing with Rumi and Gwi Mah might’ve been a bit cliche but I think it would’ve been a fun addition to the plot.
Furthermore if the song free was about Rumi fully choosing to be a demon in hopes of acceptance it probably would’ve been a good plot twist.
I think having more focus on Celine and the affect of Rumi’s mom’s death would’ve been a good inclusion as I felt like we could’ve seen more of her character and how her choices were shaped by the trauma of losing her best friend and having the fate of the world placed on her shoulders, especially since she had to raise a child who was part demon leading to some inner moral conflict.
I’m just rambling at this point… thank you for listening and good night!

The implied mother-daughter relationship in this movie makes me ill. here is a ficlet with them <3
If there is no canon about Rumi growing up beside that one scene store bought is fine!!!
She looked like her father so, so much, that kid. Almost nothing like her mother.
It hurt to look at her. So Celine didn't. Celine just smiled in her general direction, braided her hair, so bright, so unlike her mother's black, and kept singing. She kept singing their old songs, kept returning to her best friend's grave, and kept raising their little girl, their half-demon.
She kept wishing for a better world, one where her adopted daughter had a real mother, and she - her friend. She kept wishing for a world where her friend never fell in love, never gave birth, never died.
She kept wishing that her friend would be still here, on the nights Rumi couldn't sleep, on the days she cried so, so loudly, scared of her own skin, striped and unnatural - Celine kept wishing.
And she kept shushing the voice in her ear, a familiar, dangerous voice, that was whispering ever since her friend smiled happily at her, presenting her boyfriend and looking so, so happy.
Celine would never listen to it that much. Only when she felt the endless hole in her soul trob particularly sharply.
She loved her girl, she really did. But love isn't enough, sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't smooth over all the cracks.
Sometimes daughters sing only because you taught them to. Their eyes are black, bottomless voids that reflect light with uncanny swiftness, pupils constricting in at the ends and out in the middle, glowing in the dark.
For Celine, love was telling her to hide her stripes, curling sweetly under her ribs, it was reminding her to sing and hum and talk with her human voice, sweet and high, not with the vibrating bass of her demon half, rumbling in the little lungs, purring at hugs and kisses and all the loving touch.
That loving touch was taken away quickly every time she showed her inhumane nature - jerked away from amber eyes hands, broken hugs whenever Rumi purred, soft fingers not touching her stripes whenever she needed sunscreen.
Love wasn't a miracle. It couldn't fix all.
Rumi's eyes shined in the darkness, two little moons in the corridors without lightning. She loved singing low notes, screaming to the metal songs in her room. Her hands kneaded soft dresses and skirts unconsciously, clawed at the uncomfortable ones, trying to scratch them off. She hated all strong scents, sneezed and coughing at the galas her second mother forced her to attend.
Rumi tried to be human, she really did. But her father's legacy was rooted deeply, roots hooking in her veins, claws scraping her bones from inside out. She moved like a yearling tiger, softly and desperately trying to be smooth - even tigers are clumsy in teenage years.
Celine loved her girl, she really did. But as Rumi aged, she closed her doors. She moved her furniture around herself and made escape planes on the back of her mind. She touched her daughter less and less, smiled at her papers and pushed the new talents higher and higher, refusing to think about how far the stripes have progressed.
Old, dying star, pushed forward new constellations, letting them shine so, so brightly that it blinded her, and visited her dead. She sent them off on tours, on trips around the world, and stayed home, guiltily feeling relief.
Celine just needed the Hunters to win, to continue her legacy and reach further than that, so she could stop feeling guilty every time her daughter looked at her, and she couldn't look back.
Just a little more, Celine told herself. Just a couple more shows, and Rumi gets rid of her stripes and her amber eyes and all of her demon habits.
Rumi smiled from the screens with unhumanly sharp teeth, sanded down to the standard, and sang with her human voice, making herself take higher and higher notes, and hid her stripes from everyone but her mother.
The tension grew and grew, just like the stripes on her daughter's skin, just like the fans of her songs, and Celine felt it suffocate the remains of her relationship to her daughter.
They never see each other, those days. One would think it would be easier.
But Celine just worries. Will her girl finally break, snap, shatter her humanity on one of her shows? Will she break the Hunters trying to show herself, all of it? Will the demons kill her little girl, caught her under some rooftop and present Celine with her head one of those days?
Rumi will succeed, she's destined for it. But Celine still worries.
Her little girl, her daughter. The last part of her best friend. Soft hair, sharp chin, dark eyes. Purring under her hands, bright amber eyes, creased in happiness.
High notes and low notes. A good song needs both.
Celine sings their old songs and feels like crying every time there isn't another voice joining her.
She visits her dead, thinking of a man's hands kneading her best friend's belly, of dark, low lullabies in the night Rumi couldn't remember. Celine couldn't bring herself to like him, but he made her friend happy. So she let him live.
Celine stops checking on her girl's progress. She knows she will only go up, and it feels pointless to stalk their socials now. Instead, she sends Rumi pictures of her burnt pancakes and badly sewn sheets.
When she visits her dead one night, Rumi comes back, stripes all over and a burning yellow eye filled with pain. She asks for death, for a release, but Celine is so, so selfish.
Her daughter is crying, and Celine can't even touch her cheek when she sees the stripes there. Her hand hangs in the air, unsure, awkward, and drops back down.
Love isn't a miracle. It cannot heal all.
She still flinches when Rumi screams that she doesn't love her. Not all of her.
Celine can't even argue - she trembles all over, staring strictly at her best friend's daughter's feet.
When Rumi leaves, Celine's knees give out. She cries in the charp cold air, guilty and remorseful, and tries to breathe through it.
She stumbles back home only after the barrier comes back up, feeling old and empty.
When Rumi stumbles into her front door with her band, red-eyed and still smiling, Celine pours them tea and looks on, as they devoir half her pantry and fall on her spare couch, falling asleep immediately.
Mira and Zoey don't flinch from already fading stripes on her daughter skin, they just trace them with their fingers while falling asleep. When Rumi starts purring, half-asleep already and clinging to Mira's body with all her limbs, Zoey just eeps in awe and burrows her way into the cuddle.
Celine thinks of her daughter's childhood and feels an old guilt rising up. She doesn't push it down this time, just covers the girls with a blanket and goes to sleep herself.
She thinks of bright amber eyes and still flinches. But she doesn't close her door that night.

Omg so many mixed feelings... 🫠😖 Ok here I go, my KPOP demon hunters review.
First, fast one without Spoilers just feelings:
Animation: impeccable, fantastic , marvelous 🫶👌👌🫦🫦
Aesthetic and designs: good good SO GOOD🫶🫶🫶🫶❤️🔥as someone who loves long hair and purple I want Rumi's hair so baaaad (maybe not that long I don't want to step on it though 🙃)
Music: you bet I'm gonna hear those songs on loop over and over and over✨✨✨ for a loooooong time baby 🎶🎶🎶🎶💞💞
Story plot and romance:....................im so devastated 💀 and kind of disappointed😭
Ok regardless of what I going to say now, this movie is fantastic and deserves success so it can have a sequel that could fix everything Im about to rant about now 🫠🥲😅👉👈. Big massive Spoilers down here👇👇, you have been waaaaaarned:
So this movie took 7 years to be made and I need it to have the greatest success so we can have a sequel sooner than that because there are so many things to fix😤😤:
First there's a lot of unexplained lore, the demons: Jinu was a human turned into a demon by the big bad flames thing and Rumi is half demon because her dad was a demon we get absolutely ZERO explanation about this, was the father a human turned demon? 🤔Was it demonborn? 🤔 The other Saja boys are demonborn or demonturned ? The big bad flames thing didn't know about Rumi because he couldn't control her so that means he didn't know about her father? 🤔He couldn't control her father either? Was the father good or bad? Did he fool Rumi's mother and got her pregnant? Or were they in love? Why are they dead?🤔 Did they fight each other to death or one killed the other and the other died for other reason? Wait... Is he even dead? I mean I'll have to check but we only see the mother's tomb and I kinda assumed the father was dead... So he could be alive?😬 Also we know the mom was part of Celine group of three but I didn't catch who of the girls was her mother and we don't see the other member allegedly alive either we could have used some good old fashioned flashbacks here...😑😑😑
Another thing the other two girls also have issues about their pasts but is explained very fast and shallowly and we don't know how Celine chose them to be hunters, we know Mira is the black sheep of her family and is affected by it thinking she doesn't "belong" and same with Zoey, she feels divided because she is Korean but was raised in America so is like two different worlds to her and she is a people pleaser... Ect... The point is the same no flashbacks to explain anything at all🙄🙄🙄. Celine is also... She is very important but she is almost not there, she apparently raised Rumi, she is traumatized by Rumi's mom death, she is apparently incapable to love all Rumi because of her demon part and made her feel like a mistake... There's no retaliation about this, she doesn't appear again after having that breakdown In front of Rumi, we know nothing about her past either 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Also... Look I'm a person in love with romance and happy endings and even if this movie is so good... I still feel SCAMMED... 😭😭😭😡This isn't like Arcane or The prequel of the hunger games... I can accept bittersweet or devastating endings with those cause the who story is basically preparing you for the worst🥲🥲 but this movie vibes actually gave me the hope of a happy ending for both and it became a slap in my face...🥺🥺 I'm not recovering from this emotional damage... 🥺🥺I actually regret watching it because now I need to watch something knew to be obsessed but with a happy happy ending to forget about this... At least until I get a sequel... I can't believe Jinu died that way! And the other Saja boys... They didn't get a development beyond being props for Jinu with pretty faces! I mean I get that they are 5 and probably we would need a series but shit! They got obliterated like nothing before that could happen! And speaking of them... That trailer scammed me too! I mean... I'm not the only one right? Everyone Shipped Zoey with the abs guy because she reacted strongly about him, Mira too but more secondary and suddenly Zoey was infatuated with the guy that has his eyes covered and Mira is obsessed with the pink haired abs dude? I hate it 😤😤, they sold me something in the trailer and the movie gave me the though pink girl shipped with the pink tough guys and cute girl shipped with the cute guys that don't even talk! And made me watch how she sees him under his bangs and say: oh you are totally my type! Anyway*kills * WHAT THE FUCK??? ☹️I only like the tough with the tough and the cute with the cute with the PPGXRRB thank you very much because in general I like contrast 😭😭
Anyway like I said if they wanted to make us cry with drama they could have sacrificed a regretful Celine and saved Jinu... The demons supposedly were oppressed by the big bad flames thing so they could have been set free!! 😭😭😭😭😭 I need a sequel to fix this! Also I can't believe Zoey and Mira didn't get to meet the bird and the tiger... 🥲
And that's all... I need a sequel so my boys get resurrected and to talk about Celine and Rumi's mother and demon father, who knows... Maybe he is a powerful demon who is actually alive and can resurrect the saja boys... I just hope it doesn't take other 7 years...

Kpop Demon Hunters Review:
Jinu is coming back guys. He is, trust me bro.
Also, I got it wrong with the secondary ships.
It's Zoey and Mystery (with their son Baby Saja), and Mira with Romance and Abby (Pink hair visual trio) lol. Zoey and Mystery is kinda cute and interesting because of the idea of a high energy extrovert girl with a guy who is the complete opposite, could be a fun dynamic, but I still like her and Abby better. And the pink tall trio... They are hot and have a fun dynamic, which is enough to make them work. These pairings don't really matter a lot because they were there for the comedy but...
RUJINU? JINUMI? RUMINU? RUJI? RINU? JUMI? JIMI? RUNU? CLAWSTAR? (Because she's a pop star and he has claws, it sounds just as beautiful as Ghostflower, anyways)(Yes I've seen people refer to them as all of that, some of those are sound bad but the others are mostly perfect) They served love at first sight, meet cute (in a subversed way, I loved it) enemies to lovers, forbidden love, soulmates, age gap(Jinu is at least more 400 centuries old and still look that good, we stan) she fell first but he fell harder, yearning, longing, teasing, trauma, drama, angst, banter, pet parenting, FOR IT TO END LIKE THAT???
No seriously, we need a sequel. I need to know the story of Rumi's parents. How did they meet? How did they fall in love? And how did they have her? What happened to the third Sunlight Sister? And what happened to Rumi's father? And Jinu's father(because we only see his mom and little sister)?
But one thing I got right and CELINE WAS THE REAL VILLAIN ALL ALONG.
Imagine how PAINFUL it was for Rumi to want to know more about her father but never being able to, never being allowed to, because Celine would tell her he was a mistake? Implying she was also a mistake? Imagine all the times she had to hear all demons are evil and bad? Including her father. Including herself. It must have had her think badly even of her own biological mother for falling in love with a demon. Or thinking her father did something to her mom.
Meeting each other truly freed both Rumi and Jinu. It showed Jinu he doesn't care just about himself. It helped Rumi to accept herself and sing again.
And there is so much left to explore. Jinu's pain in being the man, the provider, and abandoning his mom and sister in his father's absense and how he'll deal with this memories he can't erase once he comes back (which he will, leave me alone). Mira's insecurities and her apparently messy relationship with her family. Zoey's feelings of being divided between the US and Korea. Bobby's pressure as the girl's manager.
Celine having to accept that not all demons are bad, and Rumi being the way she is, and seeing her adopted child fall in love with a demon, just like her friend and fellow hunter groupmate, Rumi's biological mom, once did.
Imagine her finding Rujinu's special objects:The handkerchief Jinu gave her to cover her marks, the envelope he sent her(Jinu has his bracelet, I bet she would notice that too). I want this woman to see the past happening again right before her eyes, see history repeating itself, and DEAL WITH IT.
Also, I need more names, man. Rumi's biological parents name. The Saja Boys names instead of their stage names. The tiger and the bird's name(which I headcanon as Long and Taia at first, Idk why, but their names are Derpy and Sussie). GIVE ME MORE.
I gotta write about it. It just gave me so many ideas for an AU with Rumi and Jinu's daughter. Rumi and Jinu would raise her in the way Rumi's father and Rumi's mom couldn't raise her. And how Jinu could go like:"I lost my mom. I don't want you to lose yours, too." To Rumi and Celine and her reconcile or Celine just dies, I'm still deciding.
It was explained that demons steal souls to feed Gwi-ma. Sure, they seem to eat it, too, like the water demons, but it doesn't seem like it's something essential to the others as it is to Gwi-ma. Souls to Gwi-ma seem mandatory. For the other demons, seems like delicious little treats they could give up eating.
I need this sequel now. I'm willing to wait others 4/5 years for this or more. I don't care.
Anyway, it shattered my heart, and it broke me into a million pieces. I totally recommend it. The songs are all fire, the visuals are insanely beautiful, and it does feel kinda rushed at times, but it's clear they did what they could with the time they had and I hope they realize the potential and the popularity of it and give us a series or a trilogy, or just a three hours long sequel, idk man anything to have MORE of this.

KPop Demon Hunters AU: Jinu Is Rumi's Father
Points In Canon that inspired this:
Jinu is a Demon
Rumi's father is a Demon
Jinu is confused about how it's possible
Rumi is constantly told not to think about her father by Celene
Jinu has angst about leaving behind his family
Rumi's mother died and she doesn't know her father
Jinu and Rumi have a supernatural connection between them
Shipping a 22 year old with a 400 year old is creepy. Like did we all just forget the half your age plus 7 rule?
Alternate Universe:
Juni and his Demons would battle against the group of Hunters, (i do not remember their names), and overtime one of the member named Ryu would try to take a softer approach and speak with Jinu, eventually forming a romance between the two of them as they opened up, and later Ryu fell pregnant.
The Hunters never approved much of Ryu and Jinu's relationship, with their leader, Celine, completely blowing up at Ryu when the news came out. This fight pushed Ryu to break things off with Jinu and take a break from being a Hunter.
Eventually, the day came that Rumi was born, and Ryu died in childbirth, leading to Rumi being raised by Celine and forced to hide her Demon Marks.
Rumi grows to become a Hunter, creating the band Huntr/x alongside her friends Mira and Zoey. But things aren't all they seem, as her marks are growing more and more visible and eventually a boy band named Saja Boys pops up and begins slowly taking their place in popularity.
The Saja Boys are Demons, lead by none other than Jinu. The Hunters naturally follow them, and during the struggle Rumi's clothes are destroyed, revealing her markings to him. Naturally, Jinu is confused. A Hunter cannot be a Demon. Yet, he still helps her hide her marks from her group, in some way he subconsciously cares for her.
Later, walking away from the fight, he questions it more. Memories return to Jinu, of him leaving behind his mother and sister, of arguing with Ryu.
And despite it all, despite Gwi-Ma's voice in his ears, Jinu still sends a message to Rumi, and they begins speaking with one another, revealing their pasts and their fears, and growing closer, when an important part of their stories collide. The Hunter, Ryu. Rumi's mother. Jinu's lover.
And they're family, Jinu is Rumi's father.
This leads Rumi further in her goal of saving Jinu, and brings Jinu even more anxiety about the people he left behind. Rumi wants her dad in her life, wants to strip him of the Demons she fears and wants to get rid of, while also questioning all she knew of demons. Gwi-Ma continues to manipulate Jinu, making Jinu feel as if he's never going to be able to truly be Rumi's dad, that he would abandon or hurt her at the end and it's best to not try.
So he betrays her, just like he always does, reveals her secret to the world and leaves. Rumi is broken, and in her pain seeks Celine out, seeks the parents she lost.
But it doesn't work, Celine doesn't understand her, nobody does, not like her dad did. The man who embraced her marks and taught her how to control her Demon self.
This has to change.
So, when the final battle comes as Gwi-Ma begins taking over the world, Rumi steps up, her scars showing brighter as ever, as she calls for her father past the Demon's control, knowing that if they work together, they can win.
And at the end, with Gwi-Ma gone, the Saja Boys are freed, and stand proudly with Huntr/x. Jinu and Rumi embrace one another.
"I'm proud of you, kiddo"
"I love you, dad"

Part 2!
Though I have found merch and what seems to be a scene from the movie where Rumi’s arms are exposed.

This isn’t really evidence to bedunk the theory since we have two incidents of seeing demons hiding or revealing these markings when in disguise but it does leave me to more thought on the theory. (Also- could just be them hiding it because things do get hidden from advertisements but what made me wonder more is the shirt.)
I wonder if Rumi is half demon because we only see one eye glowing yellow and perhaps she has a more complicated time hiding the markings. Or maybe- despite being able to hide her markings, she’s been taught to still hide her neck and arms.
Which leads to the first bit of my own little theory. I heard that a character named Celine may be Rumi’s mom. While I have no confirmation on this, even with her being on Sony’s Mother’s Day post; this doesn’t guarantee how she’s a mom.
If she is Rumi’s mom- whether adopted or biologically -she may have been the one who taught Rumi to hide her demon half/demon identity.
I believe Celine is the one who says ‘The world will see you as pop stars but you will be so much more than that- you will be hunters.’ So she clearly is involved with the girls being Kpop idols and demon hunters. I have no doubt that maybe- just maybe -she knows Rumi’s secret.
We even get a possibility that we will get to see a younger Rumi in the movie. So we may get a glimpse of her childhood. No confirmation though- this is from IMBD.
Maybe Rumi, out of the fear she may have gained from her mother’s parental guidance, is paranoid and still wears long sleeves even though she can clearly hide the markings.
So what my theory is-
Rumi is either half-demon, with Celine being her human parent or she is full demon and Celine takes her in. Either way, Celine is the one who raises Rumi and teaches her about demons. Maybe Celine was a demon hunter before as well and she’s passing it onto Rumi then Mira and Zoey. Celine teaches Rumi to hide her markings via long sleeves since Rumi is a child, she may have a harder time hiding them like demons normally do. Yet, even as an adult, where she can now hide them- Rumi still wears long-sleeves and avoid situations where they may be exposed like bathhouses, simply out of fear. We do see from the second article that the stress of this secret will get to her in the movie.
Rumi having one glowing eye could be many things. If she’s half-demon, this could be a hybrid trait or a sign of cursed link. Sometimes people design characters who are hybrids with supernatural/fantasy beings will have this as a trait. Or a link like think of Black Butler or Tokyo Ghoul. Maybe it’s a sign of Rumi’s limited demonic abilities or it’s just to visually look cool when the audience and possibly Jinu see the truth.
Or maybe Rumi was human once and something happens in her childhood that causes her be somewhat demon. Tokyo Ghoul style. Maybe this link could also be linked to what is called Honmoon- which seems to give them the ability to see demons in disguises and summon their weapons.
They seem to get this from their fans based on the concert we see from the linked song- where they brush their fingers against glowing lines to summon the weapons. And when they keep singing- the lines form from the fans as their souls glow. Maybe they needed someone with demonic abilities to make that happen and Rumi volunteered but it is meant to keep it a secret. But I’m leaning more towards the first theory- I could be wrong.

That’s basically all I can think- I may add more if anything else if found. I was mainly showing the evidences people found over time and what my personal theory on the situation was. If you guys any points or opinions on the theories. Let me know!!
So I am excited for Kpop Demon Hunters and decided to talk about the most popular theory that Rumi is either a demon or half-demon. Some people even theorize that she has a cursed link to demons. There’s already some potential signs so I wanna look over them!
The first signs we got were from the first article- we first see how it’s confirmed that Rumi is trying to keep a secret from her group members, Mira and Zoey.
This will be split into possibly 2-3 parts due to the 10 photo limit and I have more than that. 😭
Along with this from a different article.
Then in the same article from the first screenshot, we see what I think is concept art of the girls. Where Rumi is the only one with demonic markings.

Then the major hint is when the trailer dropped and we get glimpses of Rumi finding Jinu. Jinu successfully gets a scratch of Rumi, cutting her sleeve and revealing what looks like demonic markings underneath!
Some people say it looks like scratches but don’t seem that way from the angles.
There’s also this photo I saw on a TikTok of Rumi having one glowing yellow eye. It’s really blurry and I can’t find a good source for it- so whether it’s official or not, I don’t know.

I even had trouble finding the photo and could finally a blurry version of it. Only two TikTok videos had this photo and I could only find one. Sorry if it’s not good. 😭
Another hint is that Rumi is the only wearing long sleeves and never exposes her arms, unlike Mira and Zoey.
That this is an attempt to find the demon markings!

In the newest clip released on Instagram! We even get this little line.

Rumi doesn’t want to go a bath house. Maybe because she’s worried about her markings showing?
Part 2 coming!!

How Rumi’s Parents Met HCs

a/n: Ryu is the name of Rumi’s mum
I personally believe her parents met when Ryu was by herself, patrolling the city when she spotted a demon lurking in an alleyway
Naturally she went to investigate, attacking instantly when she got close enough
However the demon didn’t fight back, merely defending itself and then disappearing as soon as it could
At first she thought it was strange, but just brushed it off as she went back to patrolling
However, when she spotted the same demon a couple days later, the exact same thing happened
She attacked, and he disappeared in an instant
This simultaneously confused and annoyed her, with Ryu now going out of her way to find that specific demon
She told her team about the unusual situation, but was reassured that he was nothing the hunters couldn’t handle
Regardless, Ryu still went out to get answers
It was weeks until she managed to corner the demon, pinning him against the wall with her blade to his throat
She asked why he was in the human world, growing more frustrated as he remained quiet for a few moments
He then said if she was going to kill him that she should just get it over with, which threw Ryu off long enough for him to slip away and disappear
From there a pattern would emerge, with the two of them frequently crossing paths when Ryu was patrolling alone
Unbeknownst to her, the demon was actually seeking her out, wanting to talk more
She’d basically interrogate him about his life as a demon, trying to find his intentions for not attacking her
However, from these questions she’d learn he wasn’t loyal to Gwi-Ma, trying to escape his voice
While Ryu was sceptical at first, the two of them grew closer, with her even answering the demons questions about her
That’s when she realised she genuinely cared about the demon
Not knowing how to handle these feelings, she instantly went out of her way to not see him
Eventually she began seeing him everywhere; in the crowd during concerts, in the corner of her eye when she was on patrol, sometimes even outside her house
However, he’d manage to get Ryu by herself, asking why she’d just leave him and that if she wanted to end things she should say it to his face
They’d definitely argue, saying that whatever they had shouldn’t even have happened since they were so different
The demon would eventually leave, promising not to find her again if she really felt that way
Months would pass, with Ryu missing him more and more
Even the other members would notice, but she’d just say she was stressed about maintaining the Honmoon
She’d try and find the demon again when she was on patrol, with no success
Eventually, when she was alone, she’d start talking to herself; asking him to come back
The moment those words left her mouth, he’d appear; neither of them talking when they locked eyes
From there the two would confess their feelings for one another, despite the two being a demon and hunter, allowing for their relationship to properly start
She wanted to tell Celine, but anytime she brought up the topic of demons, she saw the anger and resentment in her eyes
So instead they kept their relationship a secret, dating for years as Ryu made sure the other hunters never found him
At some point they would get married, merely exchanging rings as a symbol of their union rather than doing anything official
However, when she fell pregnant, she knew she would have to come clean
I believe this caused a falling out with the hunters, with Ryu disappearing since she knew they would never accept her new lifestyle
She continued to hunt demons for as long as she could, doing it from the shadows so her former group couldn’t find her
Her husband would help her during this, using his demon abilities to his advantage and fully taking over when Ryu became too pregnant though
When Rumi was finally born, neither one of her parents knew how to raise such a unique child
At first they were cautious, meticulously noting down her demon attributes and any behaviours they thought were abnormal
However, they very quickly grew not to care about her differences and focused on making sure she was happy
Rumi lived a rather sheltered life with her parents, staying home most of the time until around the age of three
At this point I believe Gwi-Ma heard of a rogue demon that was helping a hunter, sending all his underlings to capture them
Their family remained hidden for a while, however the demons managed to track down the area and they lived in
Not wanting to leave the humans of their city in danger, and knowing that no matter where they went Gwi-Ma would find them, they tried coming up with a plan to defeat him
However, Rumi’s father knew that this was practically impossible, and decided to face the overlord alone
He quietly said goodbye to his family, leaving them in the middle of the night
Ryu knew exactly why he had gone when she realised he was missing, not knowing how to go after him while also protecting Rumi
Eventually, she’d run into Celine who had heard about the concentrated number of demons in the area
Seeing Rumi with her demon markings, everything clicked into place and Celine was horrified
Instead of explaining herself, Ryu pleaded with her to understand that Rumi was still her daughter
This managed to convince Celine to take care of the child while Ryu went to go look for her husband
I believe they would only reunite at the final battle, with demons trying to drag her husband back to the demon world
In the process, civilians were being killed as well, Gwi-Ma managing to slowly make his way topside because of the influx of souls
Here Ryu would do her best to protect everyone while saving her husband, the two of them reuniting amidst all the chaos
This would catch Gwi-Ma’s attention, with him directing all his resources towards capturing the hunter and her demon husband
The pair would manoeuvre around the city, trying to draw the mob away from the public
In the end though, they knew what they had to do
Charging to Gwi-Ma, they lured all of the demons back into his flames in an attempt to push him back in the underworld
This worked, however, at the cost of Ryu and her husband’s life
Celine witnessed the carnage, unable to stop Ryu’s sacrifice since she was taking care of Rumi and trying to direct all the civilians to safety
Celine blamed Ryu’s demon husband on all this, vowing to never let another corrupt those she loved
Therefore, despite being half demon herself, she raised Rumi to hide and despise her demon side
