190 pages (six days to read) First published: 1982-03 Fifth numbered TOS Pocket Books (two authors Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath)

Stardate ?? - I think I read one at some point but wasn't making any notes. Definitely set after the first movie as repeatedly refers to those events. The authors (or editors?) also specifically left footnotes to episodes of the show, and other novels that had been written. Novels from before Pocket Books was publishing them, that had been written by these authors. (Which I don't think I've ever seen.)

Title refers to the Greek Titan that gave fire to humanity and was endlessly tortured by having his liver eaten by an eagle.

Prologue starts referencing four individuals that readers should realise are Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and a fourth that may initially be guessed at as Sarek. Early revealed to be a new character. Most of the story is very focused on the four of them, other regulars get little to do.

Insight into Vulcan culture and martial arts, as surmised by the authors. A role reversal with Spock being given command and Kirk relegated to First Officer. Three apparent attempts on the lives of the two Vulcans, all with short windows of opportunity to save those lives.

I didn't feel there was mischaracterization this time around. A little odd considering there would have been justification of it.

Theres a book i read in middle school and all I remember about it is that it was about dragons/wryms, it was written in the 70s, it had a green hardback, and part of the story had a cavern of dragon eggs and the main character placed their palm on one and it hatched and that's how the book ended

I have this mini headcanon that Carlisle is actually a permanent part of the volturi but hes like, a researcher kind of to see how long term effects of vegetarianism is in vampires, and that every decade or so he goes and hunts humans under the story of

-having alone time

-getting a new doctorate to stay current

-honnymoon (because esme is 100% with him)

-away from the teens

And I know that the volturi are never referred to as royal in anyway, but I want Carlisle to be visited by some vampire and referred to as "the 4th King"

Plus it would make his character that much more interesting. Like changing his main motivation from trying to be as human as vampires can be and having super empathy to being a revolutionary researcher who has the mental capacity to fool not only a mind reader, but also a girl who can see into the future

A horrible little thought for how the last episode is going to go down.

Martin is committed to the plan of killing Jonah/the pupil of the eye to release the fears, right? But could he still do that if Jon was the pupil instead? Say that Jon gives him the slip somehow and takes Jonah’s place like it really sounds like he’s planning, then there’s nothing to say that their plan wouldn’t still work. Except it’s Jon Martin has to kill at the right moment instead.

Idk what’s going to happen, but the fact they had a discussion in today’s episode about whether Martin could commit to a decision that would kill him is making me Uncomfortable.

Ooh okay so I love the Romulans a BUNCH but picking a favorite is kinda... weird? Like I love certain characters or societal norms but I can’t say I love all Romulans just like I can’t say I love all Russian people (sorry Chekov)

7. Who would make up your crew dream team?

(The entire crew) cough but if I had to pick an away team I’d pick Spock, Uhura, Kirk, Chekov, and Bones :P

8. Which captain would you most want to serve under?

KIRK of course. (Does that mean I serve under myself?)

    f. Diplomatic negotiations or all out battle?

Hmmmm well I’m more a fan of nuance than a shooting war (side eyes Abrams) but the threat of battle or violence or even the reality of it adds depth to negotiations... so kinda both? But mostly the first. :P

15. Top 3 favorite alien crewmembers?

What constitutes an alien? Technically Kirk is an alien one he’s in space and away from Terra. :P 

That being said, my favorite non-Terran crew members are Spock, Worf, and Gaila.

Heh. Honestly I’d be an ensign or a yeoman. Some redshirt who dies in the first 3 seconds of the show.

Unrealistically I’d get Nero’s tattoos XD but realistically I’d get something in Vulcan down my spine.

Uhhh none? It’s kinda campy across the board :P Plus I have night terrors so it takes a lot to scare me. (I just rewatched Insidious last night and had nightmares about a completely different and terrifying thing so... wheee)

Oh lord. So many. The one that really f-ed me up (besides Plato’s Children) on a philosophical level was A Taste Of Armageddon.

Those are two different questions. I’d like to live amongst Vulcans both to try and reign in my own emotions and bring theirs out, but I’d be miserable there. I might, unfortunately, flourish amongst the Romulans, but I think I’d be most comfortable wherever there’s a healthy mix of people. 

47. An unpopular opinion you have?

Hggg which one?? I don’t think Chekov and Sulu would be good together. There. Let the flame wars begin.

Kirk wakes up .05 minutes before he has to be on the bridge and Spock is furious because he has to wake up like 10 hours before his shift to get ready and Kirk just rolls out of bed looking like his thicc and fine self.

Short list of terms and tactics protesters should be aware of

Disclaimer: I do not support violence, looting, or any other TOS breaking behaviour. These are mostly police and government tactics that have been used on protesters of all political stripes around the globe, often by authoritarian governments illegally.

This one is also known as corraling and has been used very effectively in recent protests to contain them and force them to pass through chosen police escape routes (or no escape route at all if fully surrounded.) Proper route planning, a quick reaction once you realise you're being corralled, and spread out isolated groups can help.

If you watch it a few times you'll notice the formation and can retreat or form a human chain. The plain clothes undercovers are much sneakier and often mingled with the crowd.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_intelligence_team This article refers to the UK authorities but the tactic is used aggressively around the world. Sometimes to the degree of infiltrating peaceful protest organisations to gather pre emptive intelligence.

The UK has CrimInt and the US has Palantir and Maincore. Large protests are scanned with various devices that rely on facial recognition, gait (how you walk) and other identifying features. In the US we have seen mass surveillance of protests going back to Wall St, so if you can obscure your face as much as possible with your mask and try your best to obscure your eyes, you might escape being caught in a shot that gets you profiled and added to a database. However a brief case sized device can do a lot more than facial recognition and you can't really change all of the characteristics.

We've also seen what happened to the SDS and even smaller socialist and environmentalist groups: they were infiltrated by private security contractors. Lots of these guys have worked undercover or in HUMINT so are well practiced in infiltration. Consider implementing an invite only system for your inner group and be wary, but not to the point of harming your recruitment.

Divide and conquer, infiltrate, discredit. These are 3 common tactics levied against us successfully for a long time. But the tactics like Kettling and snatch squads can be dealt with. Also I'll reiterate: if you aren't comfortable having your name or image in a massive surveillance database, there's no way to guarantee you avoid advanced surveillance. However common sense can avoid traditional low tech surveillance.

If you do get detained or even incarcerated, reach out to one of the many non profits that will help bail you out, remember you're going to boring county jail not prison, and bring a toothbrush and change of clothes. You'll be out quick, probably just in holding, and it's not as scary as it sounds.

If you're being dragged away from the crowd and somebody who isn't law enforcement asks your name, I personally would give it because it's likely either another activist trying to ensure you get out or a journalist whose exposure can help (even indirectly). Better for someone to know you're in there, and the police are going to find out who you are anyway.

I no longer protest myself (no fascists on the street in my country) but saw what was done at Occupy and have been tracking how it evolved. Corraling / Kettling seems to be the main effective tactic of Western LEO at this point and its easy to counter with good communication and planning.

If I have time I can upload some internal government and law enforcement docs that have been released on how they are adapting to crowd control too. Crowd manipulation is a whole different post...

Edit: if this gets attention or anyone is interested I have a wealth of documents on cybersecurity, covert tactics used against protesters (legal and illegal), and if I can find it I have a basic manual on intelligence that's unclassified and was sent to me by an ex-NSA buddy of mine.

A tale as old as time will come to life on the lawn in September, as the City of West Palm Beach shows the most recent version of the beloved “Beauty and the Beast.” The adaptation of the fairy tale details the story of a young woman, Belle, who is held captive in place of her father by a terrifying beast. Unaware that her captor is actually a prince, Belle falls in love, which breaks the decades-long magic spell that made him a beast.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to this theater under the stars.
