He shrugs quietly. "Same thing ah told another mech. Was in a scuffle an' the other got a lucky blow in." The other is shot a discreetly grateful look. "Ah'll make i' worth ya while fer one. Can trade some intel if ya wan'."

He absently regards the wound on his arm. Stings like a fragger, but at least it's not as bad as it could have been.

“Thanks, buddy, but you’re not my type,” Sebastian patted Finn on the back before turning to continue his path to his dormitory. He had only taken a couple steps away when Finn grabbed the arm of his robes, pulling him back and off to the side of the corridor. Sebastian listened as Finn explained in a hushed voice that he had been on a few dates with one of the Slytherin girls in their year and he wanted to impress her by speaking to her in French, something he had heard girls thought was incredibly romantic. “Oh, you want me to teach you? Sure, I can give you a few phrases you can use on her. Just remember to thank me after you’ve finished sneaking her out of your dormitory tomorrow morning.”

“Oh, don’t mind me. Just enjoying the view.”

“Shut up,” Sebastian snapped, dropping his rag in a huff. “This is your fault, you know. If you had just blocked the spell properly, it wouldn’t have ricocheted off you and hit that statue.” Sebastian was fuming when he saw Finn leaning against the brick wall next to him. He was a little over halfway through polishing the silver in the trophy room - without magic - and he had already been at it for nearly two hours. While he knew there was a chance of getting both he and Finn into trouble when he taunted his friend into a friendly duel on the school grounds, he thought a little fun would be worth the risk. He really didn’t expect to get caught, and he especially didn’t expect Professor Flitwick to only see Sebastian casting a spell and not Finn. “And the statue wasn’t even ruined! It’s an easily reversible charm.”  “This is completely unfair. You should be here too. Not just me. And don’t say this is better than being expelled because I think death couldn’t even be more mortifying than this,” he shook his head at Finn’s amusement, a sarcastic, breathy laugh slipping out. Feigning a curt smile, Sebastian picked up the rag and turned back to the silver. “Did you need something? I’d like to finish this before my next birthday.”

Sebastian had already insisted on Finn not buying him a gift. Besides the fact that his tastes would typically fall out of Finn’s price range, he didn’t expect a gift from him, nor did he even really want one. Of course everyone liked to receive gifts, but if they started to exchange gifts, then Sebastian would probably need to do it with some of his other friends as well, and playing secret Santa with his dormitory wasn’t something he was interested in.  Despite his protests though, the day before Christmas holidays began, Finn had handed him a small, poorly wrapped gift box and Sebastian couldn’t help but feel bad that he hadn’t gotten Finn anything in return. “It’s not a Remembrall is it? You know I hate those.”
