File 1: Pre-operation Report
10-13-54 Triton Republic, Heartflown Forest
Lucille stared at the notice being displayed on her wrist link. Her teeth clenched together as she reread the words scrolling on the holographic display projecting down her arm. There was a twitch in her lip. A gentle nudge on her shoulder reminded her of her surroundings. Turning to look at her motley crew, her second in command Diana gestured to the notice. "Well, what is it?"
"A cease and desist from the Triton Republic's Central Government." Lucille read the words on last time before flicking her wrist towards Diana's. The dark hair girl held her wrist up and tapped twice on the pale blue metal device. The holographic display lit up above her wrist. In bright red letters were the words 'Cease and Desist.' Diana's face morphed slowly from confused to angry as she read. Lucille popped her jaw, feeling the bone grind together. Finally, Diana spoke once more, anger coursing through every fiber of her being. "What the actual fuck! They want us to leave the M.E.L alone. Don't they know those people are doing?"
Lucille shook her head, "They want to meet me at the Magnolian Border to discuss an opportunity."
"Fuck that!" Diana shouted. Some birds that were in the trees spooked, squawking as they flew away.
Leveling a stern glare at the girl, Lucille watched as Diana shrinked away from her. Curling her fingers, Lucille could feel the cold slid of ink as it swirled around her hand. Raising her fingers, Lucille sent a mental command to the ink. It took the shape of star floating above her fingertip, "I'm going to go."
Diana blinked, "Why."
"Call it a hunch but I know there's more than they're telling us going on." Lucille studied the pitch-black star. The scar on her chest burned with the use of her powers. It was a psychological reaction, but it caused Lucille's lip to curl. "While I'm gone, you're in charge of Rouges. Make sure you cause some trouble."

File Two: Pre-operation Report
5-13-56 The Kingdom of Magnolia, M.E.L Nylund Lab
Novaya had decided that she hated almost every other child currently in the same room as her. Excitement buzzed in the air as they were all made to sit in cheap metal chairs in the Lab's Cafeteria. A project had been lowered down from the ceiling and currently displayed a holographic version of Magnolia's royal seal. Almost everyone was whispering about the exciting opportunity and how they couldn't believe they were selected. They were all excited to join the Magnolian Army as Mana Warriors.
As the kid next to her elbowed Novaya again blathering on about how he hopes he gets a cool mana implement like fire or lightning, Novaya considered screaming. Today was supposed to be her mother's funeral. No one would be there to mourn or gather the ashes. A consequence of the woman being so far away from home when the plague had taken her. No today was not for celebrating a 'grand opportunity to serve her great nation.' It was supposed to be a day of tears and prayers for the woman that had loved her.
Novaya sighed and turned pointedly away from her rambunctious neighbor. The girl sitting next to her was noticeably quieter and still. Her eyes were glued to the projection in front of her. The expression on her face would have been blank if not for her eyes being cloudy with rage. There was one other noticeable thing about the girl, her lime green hair. While the trait would be considered normal in the Lumien Federation, it was odd to see in Magnolia.
Novaya grunted as the boy behind her shoved her hard in the back. She was launched forward into the green hair girl. Turning back Novaya snapped at the boy, "Hey watch it. I'm sorry about that."
The only response Novaya got was a twitch in the girl lip. Her eyes flicked to one of the guards in the room. Novaya pulled back from the girl just as she spoke without moving her lips, "Don't get me in trouble."
Novaya looked over at the guard than back to the stage. The projection flickered causing her to look up. Hanging from the project was holo-projector was girl. She had long blonde hair and wore a suit of swirling black patterns that seem to move of their own accord. Novaya couldn't help but notice that her fingernails were black when she placed her finger to her lips.

File Three: Pre-Operation Report
6-23-69 The Kingdom of Magnolia, M.E.L Nylund Lab
Cynthia had to stop herself from fidgeting as her unit waited for the results of their final test. Their deployment had already been delayed once; they could not be delayed again. If that were to occur, they would be dismissed not just from the Night Hawks Unit by the Royal Army of Magnolia as a whole. She ran her tongue over her teeth again to give herself something to focus on.
“Night Hawk Unit 13.” The voice filtered into the room with a hint static. All four girls in the room stiffened. Novaya, their squad commander, called them to attention. “Thank you, Ignatov. Your results are in.”
Cynthia felt her heart rate pick up. The scientist who doubled as their trainer began to read the results of their last test. “Fortier, you passed your Sniper Unit Qualification and Night Hawk Qualification test. Ignatov, you passed your Leadership Qualification, your Mechanical Engineering Qualification, and your Night Hawk Qualification test. Laporte, you passed your Combat Soldier Qualification and your Night Hawk Qualification test.”
Cynthia bit down on her tongue to stop the pounding of her heart. The voice continued without a care for her internal conflict, “Lawrence, you passed your Infiltration Unit Qualification, your Information Retrieval Qualification-” She took a deep breath waiting for the results of her third test. The one test that would determine her fate and prove that all her efforts were not a waste, “- and your Night Hawk Qualification test. You will be given your markings tomorrow at seven hundred hours after your morning meal. Dismissed.”
All the girls turned at the same time and marched out of the room. Cynthia could practically feel the tense in her shoulders disappear. She had done it; Cynthia had officially become a Night Hawk.
Returning to their shared quarters, all the girls let out a collective cheer. All of them wrapped their arms around each other. Claire's hair started to glow as she jumped up and down in the hug. Cynthia barely had time to cover her eyes before Claire’s energy burst out of her in a flare of light.
Novaya rubbed at her eyes laughing, “Alright, let’s rein it in a bit.”
Samantha moved towards her bunk. Claire continued to hop around the room, while Novaya moved towards the side of the room. Cynthia joined Samantha by the bunks. “We actually passed our qualification tests.”
Samantha let out a slight laugh, “Yeah, we did. Guess those extra months did us some good. Good call on delaying us Novaya.” Novaya froze for half a second. She resumed prying a wall panel out of place. Inside was a mini cooler full of energy drinks. Claire trotted over to help distribute the drinks within. Samantha and Cynthia shared a knowing look before taking their drink. Samantha popped open the can, sarcastically she drawled, “You know Squad Commander Ignatov you should really be setting a good example.”
“Kiss my ass, Fortier. The scientists drink these all the time it’s only fair we have a few. I wouldn’t be shocked if their only reason for banning these from cadets was so they could have more for themselves.” Novaya rolled her eyes. She banged the piece of wall metal back into place with a sharp slam of her fist. Taking her can from Claire, she raised it in the air. “I raise a toast, to our future deployment as Night Hawks.”
They all raised their cans in salute. Cheering bouncing around the tiny room. Cynthia looked towards the door imagining what her first mission would be like beyond the metal walls.

Warning: Irregularity Founded.
The woman in the dragon mask paced impatiently on the stone roof top. Across the road was Nylund Lab, its florescent security lights irritating her peripheral vision. A guttural growl left the woman. Another person on the roof let out a deep chuckle, readjusting his mask. He was leaning against a wall for the rooftop entrance, “Patience running thin already?”
“Shut up. This is the closest we’ve been to her in the past twelve years and Marionette is taking forever to get out here.” The woman in the dragon mask looked towards the two people on the roof with her. All three of them were wearing hoods and masks. Her eyes darted to the silent woman in a constellation mask. The woman smiled in a sickly-sweet way and pointed behind them towards the lab. There was a thud and hiss as someone landed on the roof.
“Marionette” The man crooned, making a gesture across the rooftop. “How lovely of you to join us. How have the last three months been?”
The voice that spoke was mechanical, design to be neutral in every aspect, “The Night Hawks will be sent to their new headquarters tomorrow, I will send the coordinates as agreed. Have your plans readied, we can’t delay any longer Inkwell.”
“Of course. Your broadcast will be made in two days. We were careful to avoid our past mistakes so there should be no way to trace us.” Inkwell nodded to Marionette pushing off the wall he was leaning against.
Marionette turned to leave but was stopped by a hand on her shoulder, “Wait.” The woman in the dragon mask spun Marionette, “How is she? Did she pass?”
“If you’re asking about your sister, she did pass and is a Night Hawk. You can see for yourself after I send the coordinates Knight.” Marionette gave Knight’s hand a gentle squeeze before leaving the rooftop.
Knight heard a small clap from their silent companion followed by Inkwell sighing, “Stardust is right. We need to head out; we’ll worry about Erika later Knight.” Knight turned away from Nylund Lab.

File Four: Pre-operation Report
2-3-71 Florence Conference Room, Triton Magnolia Border
Samantha hated standing at attention for this long. Novaya and Phin were still discussing with the Triton Republic's officials. Different words flew around the conference room. Mercenaries, Operations, Laboratories, Diplomatic status. Half of what was being discussed went right over Sam's head. It wasn't until Sam heard one of the delegates ask who would be leading the Magnolian operatives that she perked up.
"This is Commander Samantha Fortier." Novaya gestured behind her. Samantha stepped forward with her shoulders back and her head held high. "She is a skilled sniper and tactician. If anyone can help you get the M.E.L out of Triton and Lumien, it's her."
Sam looked each of the delegates in the eye. They were all inspecting her, stripping her down to the qualities Novaya had listed. It left Sam with a bad taste in her mouth. One of the representatives from Lumien nodded, "Of course. I am assuming she fought alongside you two in Magnolia's recent Civil War."
"I fired the first shot." Sam couldn't catch herself in time to stop the words from leaving her mouth. All of the delegates at the table froze. Recalculation shone in their eyes as they took Sam in again. The turning feeling in her gut came back. For a second it wasn't the delegates looking at her, but scientists in a different room many years before.
Phin interjected, "As you just heard. Commander Fortier was among the first of our army to fight the M.E.L and has taken an oath to help shut it down permanently. We can all agree that the M.E.L has cause all of us more hardship than any other criminal organization in Aldreen's history. There is no other government out there that is anywhere near as equipped as Magnolia to help to take them down. All we ask is that you allow a small elite group into your borders to help subdue the Labotories. Once that is done, we will hand over all we have found to your government officials for you to carry out justice as you see fit."
"And you will leave our borders once that is done?" A Triton Delegate asked. He was eyeing all three of them like they were caged animals.
"Of course." Novaya nodded demurely. Some of delegates exchanged looks. Something passed between them that Sam couldn't pick up. Whatever it was though Novaya had caught on to it, "So do we have deal?"
"Yes, we do. You may have one group of soldiers, no more than ten, enter our countries to aid in the capture of M.E.L Head Scientist Maria Veran and the disbandment of organization. We will send the papers once it has been finalized by our congress."
"It was a pleasure to work with you. Let me know if there are any changes you need made to our agreement." Phin stood from his chair. The swirling designs on his tailcoat shifting in the changing light. That or he was as antsy to getting out of the room as Sam was. Novaya stood as well giving the delegates one last nod before all three left the room.

Mid-evil thief
There wasn’t much within, a pedestal, a sarcophagus, as well as three chests. There was no red lines to connect anything yet he bet that as soon as he picked up the orb the coffin would open and he’d be set upon by some foul ag siúl marbh. “And me without my bow.” Not that he had a bow, he’d tried to use one once but unfortunately he hadn’t gotten the hang of it nearly snapping a finger. After that mishap he decided to stick to knives. They were safer for him and less likely to result in the lost of a digit. Still without a bow or even a cross bow he’d have to deal with the walking dead while it was aware of him. “Options?” He asked the room as though it cared what he wanted.
While he thought he raided the chests. The first was large enough to hold a whole suit of armor. He got excited as he picked the lock on that one. When he opened the lid his hopes were dashed. Inside was twenty gold, a few arrows which had seen better days and a gem of some sort. The gem he pocketed. Let Jareld deal with what it was and if it was worth anything. The next chest was even sadder, it might have held a cash of old weapons with as large as it was however all that was within a handful of dried herbs, a book and more arrows. He flipped through the book and decided it might be worth something so he bagged it. After the last two he didn’t bother to get his hopes up that he’d hit paydirt. When he cracked the lid though he was shocked. While it was the smallest of the three it held the most. There was a nice stack of things, gold on top, below that were three different weapons, each one in fine shape. One was dwarven make. As the dwarves were no longer around this was a fine piece indeed. Under that was a very impressive orcish blade. “If I was into swords.” He breathed sticking it into his bag as well. The last was a magical bow. Using the glove he checked to see what sort of magic it had. Again there was no charge counter so this must have been made before that was implemented.
One spell this time, slow, not useful to him but to another it might be. He stashed it in the bag then went over the four different pieces of armor. There was a pair of boots, gloves and a chest plate at the bottom, No magic on any of them but they were each of a different race. The gloves were made by goblin hands. Another race which wasn’t around any more. The boots had been crafted by another lost race, the Hissvorbus. They were either snake or lizard people. He wasn’t clear on which, and the name didn’t help. The chest piece was made by the most interesting of the dead races.
The Illiad were an ancient elven race long since dead. Every elven race would trace their origins back to them. There had been many an expedition, mostly lead by the high elves, to find their cities, temples or other ruins. So far only three had been discovered and explored properly. He’d been part of one and pocketed a good many important finds. Jareld had been most pleased, though the expedition had been rather put out when they learned. Well if they weren’t quick enough to grab the good stuff that was on them.
When the last chest was empty he turned his focus to the orb. He needed a way to get it without having to face the walking dead. He looked at the chests, now empty and wondered. Grabbign the handle of one he nodded it was heavy alright. Dragging it over he lifted it, droppign it on the lid close to what he thougth of as the head. Grabbign the second one he added it to the feet area and then the finally one, the smallest of the three he dropped in the middle. “Let’s see if that holds you.” he nodded dusting his hands off.
Approaching the orb he studied it, made sure there was no trap and then reached out. He blinked as his hand slowed on it’s approach. Pulling it back he studied it. No, his hand was find. Stepping back he found a stone and threw it. As it reached the edge of the pedestal the stone slowed, barley touching it it bounced off falling slowly until it got passed the field and then it dropped like a, well, stone.
“I guess the information is good it is a time orb.” Well with that in mind he wasn’t about to drop it into his normal bag. Who knew what might happen if the two forces came in contact. Before he made another attempt he pulled out a cloth, one which was suppose to dampen any magical affects. How well it’d work he didn’t know as he’d yet to find occasion to use it. With it in hand he reached out again. There was a moment of tension as though he fought against a more powerful force then he was moving normally. Dropping the cloth over the orb he nodded. No more time problems.

And remember kids, the next time someone tells you, "George R. R. Martin wouldn't make Jon Snow the typical fantasy hero because that's cliche".....
Oh yes he would!
One viewer wants to know what character would you play (on the show)? GRRM: If I could magically clap my hands and become a different person, it would be cool to play Jon Snow who's much more of the classic hero. Everybody wants to be the classic hero! ABC Interview, 2014
GRRM: And the character I’d want to be? Well who wouldn’t want to be Jon Snow — the brooding, Byronic, romantic hero whom all the girls love. Meduza Interview, 2017
In fact he already has ☺️
#asoiaf#jon snow#yes grrm has criticized neo-tolkein fantasy - a lot!#but like....dpmo#I need so many people in this godforsaken fandom to familiarize themselves with grrm's engagement with the genre#he isn't trying to say “chosen one boy protagonist bad” where tf did people get that???#he's directly trying to challenge the more unsatisfactory elements of lesser copies of tolkien's legendarium#the ones that lift lotr wholesale without actually understanding what makes tolkien's writing snap#at the same time he has admitted himself that he has borrowed from lotr albeit with his own twists#but people in this fandom need to know that ye old man LOVES sword-and-sorcery fantasy#he LOVES a good epic#he LOVES pulp fantasy and sci fi#and those inspirations are directly reflected in asoiaf#the way he's named arthuriana/lotr/MST and many pulp stories with brooding dark heroes as key inspirations#almost all of which have mcs who fall into the typical fantasy hero role#and they inspire elements that are reflected back onto jon more than anyone else in asoiaf#like seoman snowlock = jon (+bran)#frodo - who btw is the mc in lotr not aragorn!! = jon (and bran)#FUCKING KING ARTHUR IS JON SO MUCH SO THAT RLJ IS LITERALLY A 1:1 COPY OF ARTHUR'S BIRTH STORY LIKE??!!!!#anyone who's even a little bit familiar with le morte d'arthur will be like oh yeah jon is literally king arthur like 😭😭#same with anyone who's ready the once and future king - which grrm has directly identified as his fav take on arthurian lit#ntm that jon is based on some of the most prolific characters in arthuriana - percival/galahad/lancelot etc#did you know that there's an iconic sci-fi series whose main character is called Eric JOHN STARK?#well grrm has directly quoted that series and the mc as a foundational book in his life#funny that huh? 🙂#do people even know what tf they're talking about when they say stuff like this???? ajdhhjshsbvshja#grrm engages very heavily with traditional fantasy tropes but he of course provides his own spin on them#never has he said that he's trying to avoid stories with hidden princes or chosen ones as boy protagonists#like someone find me a direct quote of him saying that - but I bet you can't smh

My "take" of the season I suppose is that I am totally super cool with goomens being categorized as a comedy and Crowley being categorized as a comedy role, rather than as a drama. Like I know everyone's just posting about the s2 finale bc that's like "David Tennant's acting moment" or whatever but the rest of the season still happened. You're talking about someone who has the range for both "and I would like to spend. NNGH" and "you have sinned very bigly" and really what's more impressive than that
#i think abt this a lot. mostly uh in comparison to thelockedtomb SORRY#but gomens is a fantasy comedy with dramatic elements whereas tlt is a sci-fi drama with comedic elements. everyone read tlt btw#open mick night#good omens#gomens#crowley#good omens 2#david tennant#baftas

Magnolia Files
File 1: Antisocial
10-24-54 Florence Conference Room, Triton Magnolia Border
Lucille looked at every person in the room with her as a card in an extremely complex game. There were some cards that were basically useless to her for example the senator more interested in his wrist link than the meeting. Then there were cards that would require some work to be useful like said senator intern who looked ready to snap. Lastly there were the cards she wanted in her hand which was currently the general feeding her all sorts of information about the M.E.L.
There was a glowing projection with a map of Aldreen. Triton's broader were outlined in its royal blue national color. Magnolia was to the south outlined in pale yellow. Lumien to the west was outlined in soft purple. All the major cities were projected on the map with tiny light version of their major buildings. Minor countries were noted in some sections with basic white outlines. Lucille glared at the solid mass of Magnolia, "Where's Wisteria?"
"The Wisteria Branch Territory is right here." The general pointed to a strip of land between two mountains. Lucille shook her head, scoffing.
"It should be in white. Wisteria is it's own country, doesn't matter what Magnolia claims." Lucille rolled her eyes leaning back in the chair.
The general blinked at Lucille. A part of her considered shoving his face into the table for the look. She now missed her crew, they all knew better than to look at her like. The older man continued to stare at her like she had just said the sky was green. He took a breath before, "Yes, well Magnolia recongizes people who were born in Wisteria as their citizens. Magnolia will recongize you as one of its own citizens."
"Assuming I still have citizenship." Lucille snorted waving at the map. Her eyes caught on the glowing red dots. Twenty four dots all indicating the same thing, M.E.L laboratories. Lucille pointed to one of the laboratories in Triton territories. "I was stuck here in Dread Lab for nine years and have been fighting it for the last three years."
"We are aware of you're history with Järvinen Lab" The General nodded his head. Lucille opened her mouth to say something but the General continued, "and it's nickname."
Lucille closed her mouth with a slight twitch in her lip. The General straighten his coat, "We can confirm that you still have citizenship in Magnolia."
"Okay? What the hell does that have to do with my war against the M.E.L or that cease and desist?" Lucille stood from the chair. She knew her temper was short but this felt like a new record. The General stepped back from her, moving his body to a defensive position. Lucille felt proud but that was quickly destroyed by the Senator. The man had the nerve to laugh.
He looked up from his wrist link to laugh. The intern caught Lucille's look and began to back up. The senator vaguely at the map, "You seriously call those hapzarded attacks a war?"
There was another round of laughter. Lucille turned her head to the side watching as the senator look to the others in the room. They weren't laughing. Lucille gave him a sickly sweet smile, "What do you call it than, hmm?"
"I don't know a few lucky hits during a phase of teenage rebellion." The man shrugged pulling his wrist link back up. "Honestly the only reason you even stood half a chance was because you have those fancy powers of yours and the lab was weakened because of supply chain issues."
"Sir, respectfully I think you should-" the intern stepped forward pointing to the man's wrist.
He shot her a look, "Shut up Clarissa. I don't pay you for your opinion, I pay you to set my schedule."
Lucille saw the prefect opportunity. She snapped her fingers and the sleeve of her black tee shirt lifted from her skin. The fabric shifted in the light to reveal it was actually ink. The vicious liquid shot through the air to the senator's face. It wrapped around his face, bubbling at his mouth. Lucille smirked at the shaking intern, "Go ahead Clarissa, finish your sentence."
She looked between Lucille and the senator in horror. The general stood frozen at the other end of the room. Lucille flicked her eyes to him, with a sickly sweet smile. She raised one eyebrow, challenge issued. Glancing back at Clarissa, Lucille made a go ahead motion.
"I think you should review the files I sent to you about the Rouges and their actions, Senator." Clarissa clicked a few buttons on her holo tablet before showing the screen to the Senator. Lucille ensured there was not ink in his eye as the intern showed him the information. Her eyes flicked to Lucille before she continued, "They intentionally cause those supply chain issues."
"It's called a blockade. Nifty little trick I learned from a history lesson." Lucille began to study her nails.
The general nodded his head towards the Senator, "You can let him go."
"Why should I?" Lucille looked up towards the Senator. A sick little giggle slipped out from Lucille's lips. He hid it well, but Lucille could see in his eyes and shoulders that the General was stressed. His gaze kept flickering to the Senator as he pawed at his face, muffled yells bouncing off the walls. The teenager shrugged, "He seems fine like that. Better behaved."
"What is wrong with you?" Clarissa glanced between Lucille and the Senator.
Lucille shrugged haphazardly, "If you want to survive, especially in a place like Dread Lab, you have to use fear."
"Or you have Anti-social personality disorder." The general nodded at her. Lucille rolled her eyes.
It wasn't the first time that disorder had been brought up to her. It wasn't the first time it had been applied to her either. Everyone pointed to her cruelty as a sure-fire way to diagnose her. Often, they completely ignored the other symptoms. Not that she could name those symptoms herself, but sure was there were more that didn't apply. In all honesty it annoyed Lucille, who needed a diagnosis when she got results. "Who can say for sure? Was I born this way or made into this? Is it disorder or trauma? Not that it matters to anyone in this room. I doubt you'd bring me here to talk about geography and psychology."
The Senator fell to the table with a loud thump. Clarissa screamed, causing Lucille to roll her eyes. She flicked her wrist and the ink around the man's face shoot back to her arm. It slid back into place with her black t-shirt. She may have dislike him, but she didn't want him dead. That was clearly more trouble than it was worth. The general sighed, "You're right."
He moved towards the map pointing to the Captial of Magnolia, "All M.E.L facilities are considered embassies of Magnolia. We cannot attack, raid, or show any signs of aggression to them without risking a war with Magnolia we are sure to lose."
"What?"
"Yes, and we can't have people attacking it either under the same threat." The general nodded well Lucille's mind swung violently out of control. She began to grind her teeth, feeling her jaw pop with the force. General gave her a little smile, "That's where you come in. Despite our current peace, we have reason to believe Magnolia will start a war soon."
"Spell it out for me General." Lucille hissed leaning over the table. Oh, if they wanted her to join in a war against Magnolia, she'd gladly sign up. Put a little heart on the 'i' in her name, just for the dramatics.
The General took a deep breath, "We need more time to prepare a counter force against them. Due to their connections to the M.E.L most of their army are Mana Wielders. So well, we build up an army here in Triton, you will cause so much chaos in Magnolia they'll reconsider going to war."
"That's it." Lucille laughed. "That will be so easy. Just me a week to get my Rouges and we'll have them crying in a month."
"Unfortunately, the Rouges cannot come with you due to Magnolia's restrictions. They won't be allowed pass the border and if you jumped the border that would cause more issues because those are Triton citizens causing chaos. Magnolia Citizen cause chaos there is no room for them to blame us."
"So, I'm meant cause chaos alone. Great, that will take some work, but I can do it." Lucille stood from the table. The General shook his head no and Lucille groaned, "What are you holding back."
"We have a unit that will go with you." He slid a holo tablet across the table. There were four pictures on the tablet of different young people. Three of them had snow white hair and skin with piercing blue eyes. The last on had fiery red hair and golden eyes. Lucille eyed the general when he started speaking again, "They are all form Järvinen Lab, and all can make claim to have Citizenship in Magnolia. You'll be in charge; your goal is cause just enough of disruption to delay a war."
Lucille smiled sweetly and her most innocent voice said "I'll do one better. I'll cause the whole damn system to collapse."

A lot of creators in bookish spaces (ones who I really respect and share similar tastes with) keep talking about how amazing The Locked Tomb series is and I want to try it, but then I hear it’s sci-fi and I’m just immediately put off.
I don’t really fuck with the genre too much, but I want to give this series a chance, especially after seeing what people have to say about it. But then I’m afraid it’s going to be SUPER HEAVY sci-fi, and that would nottttt be a good time for me.
So my question for the masses is this: is it worth trying out The Locked Tomb series if you’re not a huge sci-fi fan? And be honest lmao. If you think it’s super heavy on the sci-fi elements and that it might be off-putting to someone like me, let me know! But if you think it’s worth pushing through, I want to know that too!
PS - I know the books are confusing as hell and difficult to follow at times, but I’ve already read Malazan Book of the Fallen, so that doesn’t scare me. If anything, that’s a point in TLT’s favor.
#the locked tomb#the locked tomb series#gideon the ninth#harrow the ninth#nona the ninth#for context it’s not that I hate sci-fi btw#I’ve read a bunch of the big titles like dune (I even read through god emperor and that was SOMETHING) and hitchhiker’s#I’ve also read the classic sci-fi books like 1984 and ender’s game and basically everything Vonnegut wrote#but I just don’t vibe with the genre#I WANT TO THOUGH#I also feel this way about sun eater#someone pls help#and if it helps at all I also LOVE a heavy high fantasy series#fantastical elements are amazing#but there’s something about sci-fi that makes me grit my teeth

Thinking way too much about the Star Wars characters in the 70s. Daughter of a senator and war protester Leia Organa, arrested at latest anti war rally. Luckily she’s sprung from jail by some short blonde guy in short shorts and an insufferable scoundrel who makes their getaway in his shitty van.
Thinking more about this, palpatine would just be Richard Nixon and that’s hilarious
#70s au#I also consider that it could maybe be an alien government conspiracy thing on top of that#as a way to keep the sci fi element that works#yes of course there’s Dinluke#Star Wars#star wars au#au#luke skywalker#leia organa#princess leia#han solo#emperor palpatine
