"Well, certainly there is a way we could study it. It would involve having a whole bunch of electrodes and stuff stuck to your head. The biggest problem is knowing exactly when the stuff happens. From the sounds of it, it's random and you have no idea when it could strike." It would certainly be hard to study something that happens at random. At least without more info.
"Okay, here's a question for you then. Every time that it happens, when you feel sick, when you hear the voices from other universes, the pulling, etc, have you observed any commonalities to them. What I mean by this is, have you observed any patterns to it." She was trying to see if there was a way to predict when it was going to happen.
"Otherwise we're just going to have to hope and pray we can figure out when it happens." Which was going to make this all the more difficult to do. "I'll ask Futaba about this when she gets back home. She can definitely help out with this. She's seen her fair share of other universe stuff. More than me. Hopefully school doesn't leave her too exhausted. Poor girl has trouble with energy with her chronic pain and stuff."
He hadn't realized just how hungry he was until the plate of curry was place in front of him. He had no idea how long he'd been unconscious before he came here, but considering he had skipped lunch today... well, it only made sense.
He was quick to dig into the meal, and unsurprisingly it was amazing. He'd almost say it was better than Sojiro's... albeit only slightly. But he supposed that only made sense. She was the creator of the dish, after all.
"That... makes sense." He said after a few bites, though making sure to finish swallowing before speaking. He didn't want to be impolite, even if he was starving.
"It wasn't often, but the voices did occasionally sound familiar. At first I thought it was the Metaverse. Or something to do with Shadows. But that... that would explain a lot."
Though as he continued eating, more questions came to mind. Why had this world pulled him so strongly? Was it random chance, or was there a reason for it? And if there was, was it still in effect now? Was he anchored to this world? Or would he be pulled somewhere else at any moment?
Could... could he ever get home?
"Is there any chance we could study it the next time it happens? Find a way to measure the... pulling effect? Because if we can, we might be able to reverse engineer it, and pull me back home."
Though, they would still need to deal with this... Metaverse Sickness somehow. Wasn't much point in finding a way home if he was just gonna get pulled straight back-
That, and the sickness was kinda threatening all of reality potentially, so... yeah definitely not something you want to stick around.
"Either way, we need more Intel if we're going to be able to figure any of this out. The pulling effect might be a good place to start... or it could be a red herring. Honestly, I have no idea."

Not a bad mom, but Futaba is also a child, she has little friends if not none, you are the only person that she is close to. She is smart, is true, but this does not stop her from craving attention and love.
She is that age where things that might seems small for an adult feel the end of the world. Your work is important, but so its not make that your own daughter belives you dont love her over some missunderstanding
"She's never told me she doesn't have any friends. She's talked about at least one friend and has assured me she's always in contact with her. Is she lying to me? She knows I don't want her lying to me. It's part of our system that we have." It was something she had to deal with for sure. When she wasn't busy.
"I can't really discuss my work but it's something that can shape the entire world as we see it. There's a reason why I'm so obsessive over it. With that said though, I will have to try to get some work life balanace it seems." Whether she would actually go through with that was another thing altogether.

The Light Realm (Accidental Shadow Possession Arc Drabble)
Futaba, still possessed by this other version of herself, was currently stuck in their world after the portal went on to wherever it had decided to go to next. It was annoying but she knew that she could eventually get back to her own world eventually. Though with her mother here now thanks to help from someone else, they were going to be able to get back pretty easily.
With that said though, the main goal was to finally get this shadow version of herself out of her so that she could get back to living her own life. The idea was that she was going to finally do what she was avoiding the entire time: Accepting her light realm self. It wasn't going to be easy but it had to be done.
It was still bizarre to her and Wakaba looking around, the sky looking exactly like it did in the cognitive realm in their world. And according to the locals here, this was completely normal and in fact a fairly nice day out. It was as normal to them as a bright blue and clear sky was. Just something to get used to for however long they were going to be here.
Though it was time to go over the plan and to learn more about this light realm in particular. Sitting in Leblanc Cafe, Futaba and Wakaba were talking to this world's Ren and Morgana who were more than willing to share how this so called light realm worked. Wakaba theorized that it was probably similar in concept to the metaverse, or a part of the overall cognitive realm. The light realm was just what they called the metaverse here. Made sense really.
"Well, we weren't exactly expecting this whole "multiverse" thing, and it's especially weird to see well...a Futaba I suppose to be like this. No offense, taba." This world's Ren apologized since it came off as a bit rude. Futaba of course took no offense to it, more than used to it at this point.
"Let's just get straight to the point. Is this sort of accidental possession a common occurrence here in this world?" Wakaba asked, jumping straight ahead since she wanted nothing more than her daughter to have full control.
"Nope." Ren responded, shaking his head. "Never seen anything like this before. Mona has an idea though."
"That I do. Buuuuut we have to get some info out there, just so you all are up to speed." Firstly, it was getting them up to speed on how their world worked and how the light world worked. Like the metaverse, it was the realm of the subconscious, the world opposite of the real world.
The reason why it was called the light realm though was, unlike the metaverse that came off as dark and grungy, this was heaven like. Strong white light permeated around, and especially at the sky tower, it was like they were constantly getting bombarded with heavenly light. A means to go up to somewhere. The destination unknown.
Unlike shadows, the other selves in this realm represented what people aspired to be, whether they realized it or not. And most of the time it was what their deep down desires were to be, what they secretly aspired to be. And like shadows, if those got too distorted they ended up having palaces.
Wakaba noted that it was similar in a lot of ways but different at the same time. The multiverse was truly something that was fascinating. A truly infinite amount of knowledge, within an infinite amount of infinities. It boggled the mind to say the least.
They had to accept their light selves in order to gain their personas and to be able to truly explore the world. Whilst this sort of possession was unprecedented, it was theorized that the process basically happened erroneously. By accident, and the way to fix this for good was for their Futaba to accept her real light self.
And if this didn't work well...they were going to be stuck forever. As far as they knew. Not an ideal scenario.
"The good news though is, she will be able to go to her easily enough. We've let her take her time with it and never did chastise her or anything. It's a hard thing to accept, and we understand." Ren spoke up as Morgana was wrapping up his explanation of everything.
"Well, according to her, she's felt like she's let you all down for not doing something so simple." Wakaba responded, remembering some conversations they had. "It was just her anxiety that really got to her, fears about things going wrong."
"It is true that if it goes wrong things could go badly. Buuuut, it should be fine. Especially now. We'll have everyone there to help her out. Then you all can go back to your world, at least hopefully anyways." Thankfully they had an out for that now which was good.
So, that was the plan. When Futaba fell asleep, the other Futaba would awaken and they would go through the plan, and then go into the light realm. With all of them helping her out, surely everything would go just fine, and this whole accidental possession thing would be resolved once and for all...

The Cognitive Wakaba was overhearing it all, and was stricken with even more guilt. Did Futaba really hallucinate her? And thought it was her fault for her death? If she could feel something in the pit of her stomach, this would probably be when she would be able to feel it. It pained her to see her daughter so distraught like that, even if she eventually got past it.
But when Fuuka brought up the idea of talking to her, that made her feel better. Maybe they could talk to each other? She had so much she wanted to say but no way of talking to her. There was nothing more that she wanted in this moment. "Please...I want to talk to my daughter..." She knew that neither of them could hear her still, but it was something.
"What would I even say to her...?" Futaba wondered. She had saw what she thought was her mom after she helped defeat the sphinx in her palace, but that was just a momentary thing. Maybe it wasn't actually her then in that case. "I have so much to say to her, I just don't know what would be sufficient to say....I love you mom, I always have. You were the best person in the whole world..."
oraclememehacker:
“Someone I know?” Futaba was a bit confused at that, initially anyways. There was a spirit of someone that she knew around? Her mind was trying to discern this and who it could possibly be. Her family was relatively small, and she was overlooking the obvious answer since it was something she dealt with a while back and she wasn’t even thinking about that possibility. But then it hit her, and hit her pretty hard.
Fuuka would see the immediate shift in her expression. It was like a deep seated fear suddenly was etched into her.
“N-No, no no no no. I can’t go through this again. I dealt with her already.” Futaba was shaking, terror evident in her tone and voice. “S-Sorry, I-I um, I um…” Man, it was hard for her to speak now, the words getting stuck at the back of her throat. It was the fact that her mother could be possibly around again, even if she had dealt with the guilt over it was making her scared and terrified. It was like she was getting punished all over again.
Of course, she didn’t know that Spirit Wakaba was merely wanting to have her final farewells with the daughter she loved, but still. “Back before I awakened to my persona I…well, I was stricken with guilt over my mother’s death and I hallucinated her being behind me often. I would see her, her always yelling at me, blaming me for her death because I b-blamed myself. I got over it when I learned that it wasn’t me, and I was hating myself for no reason. S-So for her to be around again, just reminds me of that, is all.”
Once Fuuka could see Futaba slowly falling into despair, with fear written on her face, Fuuka panicked for a moment and tried to remain calm by reaching out to her. However, she noticed that she was able to bounce back slowly and on her own. And while that made Fuuka happy (on the outside), she feared that she traumatized Futaba unknowingly while she was speaking her mind.
But, it would make sense as to why it would be her mom. Someone who wanted to watch over her own daughter and still loved her even in death–Fuuka was envious. Just a little bit. To have a motherly figure in her life…well, that was impossible as she became the one for her own group of friends and others. “Futaba…” Fuuka whispered softly, waiting until she was able to explain why she turned pale at the thought of her mother watching her.
“You have every right to be scared and terrified. But, you’ve grown from your mistakes and what you were told. I know your mother will be happy and proud of you.” She stated slowly, knowing this was a very, very sensitive topic for the Hermit. Fuuka waved her hand outwards, sensing Wakaba beside Fuuka, and then holding her hands outwards towards the spirit. “I am glad that you didn’t let the guilt eat you away. We’ve become good friends, right? Besides,” Fuuka smiled at Futaba and laid one of her hands on top of Futaba’s carefully, “I know she’s here. You could try talking to her, if you would like.”

"Here we are Futaba dear, Inaba." The two were in the train station after a long ride from Yokohama to here. Wakaba was here for work related reasons and because Sojiro was going to be busy with his own work, she had no choice but to bring Futaba with her. It wasn't ideal, but she trusted her daughter to behave whilst they were out in a new, unfamiliar place. Plus, compared to home, this area was a lot less densely populated.
Now it was time to head to their place that they were staying at. Work got her hooked up with a place called the Amagi Inn. Apparently it was the premiere tourist destination and a really good place to stay in general. And had a hot springs, which sounded lovely. She hadn't gone to a hot spring in quite some time, and maybe Futaba could experience it for the first time.
They were going through the central shopping district on their way to the Inn, Futaba saw that there was a bookstore there and immediately became enamored. There was a place that she could go! She knew that they had to check in at the Inn but she really wanted to take a quick look in the bookstore. She had some money to spend and maybe she could get a book or two.
After a bit of pleading, Wakaba would eventually relent. However, as Futaba was making her way there, she bumped into a kid. That kid? Ren. It was an honest accident, since she had been so tunnel visioned by the prospect of books that she didn't pay as much attention as she should've. She pushed herself up and helped the other kid up, since that was only the nice thing to do, before looking all shy. "Um...hi..."

Wakaba is enjoying one of her rare days off and just deciding to take her daughter Futaba to a local restaurant. Along the way they find a capsule machine that has some featherman figures. Of course, Futaba wants one and is given the money to buy one or two. As she is watching her lovely daughter get her prize, she hears someone speak to her. "Oh...yeah, my daughter loves that series. Doesn't make any sense to me personally, as transformations don't make any logical sense but...ow. It's true dear! A-Anyways, hi."

"You're welcome to help if you want. We have everything under control here but if you're not too busy killing pumpkins then sure, you can help." She couldn't help but to giggle at the sight that she was seeing. "You look like some villain in an american horror movie that fails at being actually horrifying."
@oraclememehacker asked// "We're also making special halloween edition curry. You'll see what I mean once you come inside."
