Sets and Reps For Hypertrophy (Building Muscle)
Hi everyone, its Kris from KG Max Fitness coming at you with another blog of sets and reps. In todays article we are going to talk about sets and reps for hypertrophy or building muscle. Now, just because I am giving you a guideline for sets and reps if you do not have the proper intensity you won't build shit. Make sure the load is heavy enough to create a stimulus for the muscle to say “ok I need to grow because, this crazy mofo is going to keep pushing heavy weight for reps and I need to adapt.” (thats exactly what it says.... its science so....)
First I will discuss sets; you really only need 4-6 sets per muscle group. As long as the load is heavy enough 6 sets will feel like your muscle is about ready to explode. If you are done with 6 sets and feel like you didn’t get a good workout in, you didn’t go heavy enough. Now put your pink gloves away put some weights on the bar and you can get your man card back.
The reps range is anywhere between 8-12 reps. Now some will argue and say oh well I build muscle with extremely high reps. Well good for you, maybe you won the genetic lottery and build muscle not matter what you do. Just a hint, nobody likes you, now go away. As I said, this is just a guide line. For example, if you hit 12 reps on a particular exercise last week on set 6 the last few workouts with the same weight, push yourself and see if you can’t hit a few more reps this week with the same weight. If you can push more reps with the same weight, very the intensity next time by; varying the tempo, adding an extra set, increase the weight, or by reducing your rest time a bit. There are many other ways to increase intensity to a workout, these are just a few examples. I will write another article on ways to increase intensity to various exercises in another article.

HIERARCHY OF MUSCLE GAIN by @jmaxfitness - If you want to build muscle fast and start off 2018 like a champ, then visit the link in my bio for your free "Full Body Overload" workout. - If you want to build muscle, you need to focus on what matters. - This is what's at the base of your pyramid. In this case, it's your diet. You can train all you want, but if you're not eating in a caloric surplus with high protein, then you're limiting your gains. If you're not eating enough, you've got to pay your debts! Think like a Lannister. - Next is your training. Volume (number of sets and reps) and intensity (weight you use) will dictate muscle growth. If you're not growing, do more sets and reps with heavier weight. - As I've said many times before, frequency is important for muscle growth, as it allows you to split up the volume over the week and train with heavier weights in those multiple sessions. - For your rest periods, research shows longer rest is beneficial. 2 min for isolation and 3 min for compound exercises. - For tempo, just control the weight and focus on feeling it in your muscle and you'll be fine. - Lastly, is supplements.
