Stuck With Me
Tumblr media
After a car accident leaves Y/N in critical condition, Casey anxiously waits by her side as she fights for her life, grappling with his own fears and the weight of everything they've both been through.
Y/N had been on her way to start her shift at Med when it happened. One second, she was slowing for the intersection; the next, the world exploded in shattering glass and screeching metal. The impact sent her car spinning, slamming into a streetlight. Then, nothingness.
Brett and Violet had just finished a call when the dispatch came through—major MVC, driver unconscious, possible entrapment. Their stomachs dropped when they heard the location. They instantly recognized the location, as it was on the route you typically took to get to your shifts at Med.
They arrived to find Y/N trapped, barely conscious, blood pooling from a head wound. She was breathing—but barely, and it was visibly laboured. Violet gets into the passenger seat and starts IV and gets a C-Collar on her.  Squad 3 pried the door open, and gently moved her to the gurney. Just as she was settled on the gurney, the monitors shrieked in warning as she flatlined.
“No pulse!” Violet shouted. “Starting compressions!” She jumps on and straddles the gurney as Brett and Severide load it in.
Casey arrived just in time to see them loading Y/N into the rig, Brett delivering a shock with the defibrillator, as Violet sat back on the bench and spoke into her radio. His stomach turned as he saw your body jolt. Matt tried to jump into the back of the ambulance, but Severide held him back before slamming the doors shut, as Cruz got into the cab and gunned it to Med.
En route to Med, Violet is doing compressions, while Brett gets you intubated since you were no longer protecting your airway.
Once they arrive to Med, it is a host of organized chaos
"Female, late 20s, T-boned at high speed—found unresponsive at the scene, GCS 3. Sustained significant chest trauma with suspected cardiac contusion or tension pneumo. Lost pulses as we left the scene—three rounds of epi given, three shocks delivered. Intubated en route, no spontaneous respirations. Six-minute downtime."
“Going to Baghdad” Maggie called out as they rushed past.
As soon as they entered, the trauma room was chaos—beeping monitors, the hurried shuffle of feet, the thud of chest compressions. The team had been working for what felt like an eternity, but nothing was giving. Will, Ethan, and Connor moved in sync, pushing meds, shocking Y/N again and again, trying to pull her back from the brink.
“Pulse?” Connor asked, voice strained, eyes fixed on the monitor.
“Nothing,” Will answered, his voice low but firm.
Connor turns to the defibrillator and starts charging it again.
"Charged to 360! Clear!" Connor shouted, his voice cutting through the noise of the trauma room.
The room fell silent for a moment as Y/N’s body jolted once more, the shock coursing through her.
Seconds ticked by. All three doctors were watching the monitors, when suddenly, the beeping of a faint pulse began to return. Connor’s heart hammered in his chest.
“She's back,” Ethan breathed, exhaling a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
Connor quickly turned his attention back to Y/N, watching her intently.
“We need to get her to the OR,” he said, taking charge, his voice steady and commanding. “I’m not wasting time. Let's move.”
He looked over to Will and Ethan. “You ready?”
Will nodded, already prepping the IV fluids. “Let’s go.”
Severide appeared in the doorway, his face tense with worry, but relief in his eyes. “Is she stable enough to move?”
“For now,” Connor replied, turning to the gurney, adjusting Y/N’s head gently, making sure your airway was secure. “But we’re pushing it. We can’t wait much longer.”
The team was quick to wheel Y/N out of the trauma room, and Connor took point, pushing the gurney with a sense of urgency. He never took his eyes off of her, watching the mechanical rise and fall of her chest from the ventilator and the pulse on the monitor.
“Stay with me, Y/N,” he whispered to himself, though he knew you couldn’t hear him. His breath caught as they reached the hallway, the tension thick in the air.
The OR doors loomed ahead, and the weight of the moment hit him like a ton of bricks. He had no idea what would happen when they got you inside—but he knew one thing for sure: He wasn’t letting you go without a fight.
The team rushed you into the OR, and Connor didn’t hesitate. He followed immediately, calling orders as they moved into the sterile environment.
“Let’s get everything prepped. I’m not losing her,” Connor said, his voice sharp and filled with determination. “She’s strong. We’ve got this.”
In the hall
Casey stood there, numb, watching the love of his life disappear behind the operating room doors.
And then, as they wheeled her past—his vision swam. The world tilted.
Someone called his name. Hands grabbed at him.
Then—nothing.
“Casey!” Severide barely caught him before he hit the floor. He was completely out—limp in Severide’s arms.
Brett rushed for help. Choi arrived within seconds, immediately checking Casey’s vitals. “Pulse is weak—thready. BP’s tanking.”
“Matt, come on,” Severide muttered, shaking him, but he didn’t stir.
Choi pressed his knuckles hard against Casey’s sternum, rubbing roughly.
Nothing.
Another rub.
Casey suddenly gasped, jerking violently. His eyes flew open, wild and unfocused.
Then he fought.
Casey came back swinging. Hands on his arms, voices all around him, his body on fire. He felt trapped—pinned.
“No—get off me!” He thrashed, panic clawing at his chest.
“Hold him down!” Choi barked. “If he doesn’t stop, he’s gonna crash again!”
“Casey, stop!” Severide’s voice cut through the chaos. “You’re safe. You passed out.”
But Casey wasn’t listening. His body was still in fight mode, reacting purely on adrenaline. Choi didn’t hesitate.
“Two milligrams IM Ativan—now.”
A sharp prick in his shoulder. Seconds later, warmth spread through his veins, dragging him under.
The next time he woke, he was in an ER bay, IV now in his arm, nasal cannula delivering oxygen. His head throbbed. His limbs felt like lead.
“Easy, man.” Severide was beside him.
Casey blinked, sluggish. “What…”
“You passed out. Went completely unresponsive. Scared the hell out of all of us.”
Flashes came back—Y/N, the OR, the panic, the blackout.
Casey swallowed hard, noticing the IV in his arm. He reached up to yank the nasal cannula off—
“Don’t even think about it,” Severide warned, standing to place a heavy hand on his best friend’s shoulder.
Casey scowled but relented. “Where’s Y/N?”
Severide hesitated. “Will should be out soon.”
Minutes stretched painfully before Will appeared.
“She made it,” Will said. “Surgery went well. She’s stable.”
Relief hit Casey so hard he nearly choked on it.
Severide wheeled Casey up to her room, IV still hooked up. When they entered, Y/N was just starting to stir. Her eyes fluttered open, hazy with sedation. Her gaze landed on Casey.
She blinked, confusion flickering across her face. “Matt?” Her voice was hoarse from the tube.
“Hey,” Casey rasped, moving closer. “Yeah, I’m here.”
Her eyes drifted to the wheelchair, to the IV still in his arm. Her brows furrowed. “What… what happened?”
Casey hesitated, but Severide filled in the blanks. “Idiot over here passed out in the waiting room when they took you back.”
Y/N’s lips parted in faint surprise. “You—what?”
Casey exhaled. “Guess I didn’t handle it well.”
She gave a soft, tired smile. “You’re stuck with me, Casey.”
His throat tightened as tears started rolling down his face. “Yeah,” he murmured, taking her hand gently. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
The first few days of your recovery were rough. The pain was unbearable at times, but the exhaustion was worse. Physical therapy was grueling. But Casey never left your side.
Some days, she made progress—sitting up, taking a few steps.
Other days, the setbacks hit hard—pain flaring, dizziness keeping you in bed. Frustration weighed on you, but Casey was always there, steady as ever.
“You got this,” he’d whisper, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
One night, you broke down, tears slipping free. “What if I don’t get back to how I was?”
Casey cupped your face. “You're not alone. We haven’t crossed that bridge yet, but if we do, then we figure it out together.”
Y/N exhaled shakily. Then, she leaned into him.
Because through it all—through the pain, the fear, the uncertainty—one thing remained true.
She wasn’t doing this alone.
And neither was he.

Kelly Severide x Reader
No one knows why the new paramedic is so secretive about her homelife until it crashes with her worklife
The new paramedic at fifty one was damn near a mystery to everyone. She’d gotten hired nearly three months before and hardly no one knew anything about her personal life, not even Sylvie. She was sweet and damn good at her job but beyond coming to work and doing her job that was all anyone ever saw of her. Kelly had found himself damn near infatuated with her within about a week.
She was smart and funny and didn’t mind putting anyone in their place. She’d stand in front of her patients on domestic calls to shield them from their abusers spewing venom while CPD hauled them away and would be so gentle with children it made his heart flip just seeing it. She was an amazing woman and he wanted nothing more than to know more about her, just as a friend but she would barely give him the time of day.
He walked into the common area and she was sitting with Sylvie, Gallows and Ritter. A laugh bubbled out of her at something Ritter said and he had half a mind to slip him a twenty to keep saying whatever it was that had made her laugh just so he could keep hearing the sound. This was kind of pathetic. He was falling for a woman he basically only knew on a work basis but even only knowing her on a work basis and for this long everyone seemed to be pulled towards her. She had this gravitational pull. He just didn’t understand why she still hadn’t let anyone in. He wondered if maybe it was something in her past, had she endured something at an old house that made her slow to trust? Was she planning on just being here temporarily? That thought made his heart ache, losing her before he ever even knew her.
He would keep trying, just to be her friend. Nothing more. He just wanted to see one of those smiles pointed at him just once. She cut her eyes up at him and nodded when he walked by “Lieutenant” he smiled “Morning”
Yeah, he’d just have to keep trying.
Tumblr media
“Daniel, baby you gotta stay with uncle Caleb. You know mommy has to go to work!” you passed your son over to your brother and shot him a grateful smile. Your older brother was absolutely your life line. When you found out you were pregnant his biological father had disappeared damn near as fast as the second pink line had appeared but Caleb had stepped up to help you however he could, including syncing his schedule to make sure he was always off when you had to work.
Normally Daniel would be in daycare but they were closed due to a pipe bursting over the weekend. “Thank you so much for this Caleb” he grinned “I told you before he was ever born, I’m always in your corner. Now get your butt to work. Go save some lives. I got little man” you kissed Daniel’s cheek and patted Caleb’s shoulder before grabbing your bag and heading out to your car.
_________________
You liked firehouse fifty one. Everyone who worked there seemed to be truly decent people, Sylvie Brett, your partner was the world’s biggest sweetheart. Chief Boden was the best boss you could ask for. Captain Matt Casey was always nice and understanding,as for the lieutenant of the house Kelly Severide..well you didn’t want to think about how much you liked him. He was gorgeous, beyond brave even if he was a little brash at times and when you would see him interact with kids? God it made you almost want to see if Daniel’s daycare could come to the house on a field trip..almost.
You had the same rule for your job as you had for your dating life. You had to hit the six month mark before you could meet Daniel. Hell the only person who knew you had a son at the house was Chief Boden and he promised to stay tight lipped when you asked it of him.
_________________
When you got into work you spotted Kelly in the bays and smiled at him when he looked your way “Morning Severide” he grinned “Morning” you walked past him and he called your name so you glanced over your shoulder at him “Yes?”
“When are you gonna let me buy you lunch? Just as friends?” you shook your head “Why don’t you buy Casey lunch? You two are already friends” you continued into the station house and heard everyone laughing behind you.
Tumblr media
It was around four when a call came in for a multi vehicle accident. Truck, rescue squad and ambulance were to respond. When you came running into the bay to jump into your rig with Sylvie you winked at Kelly when he looked your way and he laughed despite the situation. Maybe you were finally warming up to him?
He climbed into the rescue squad and hollered at Cruz to get it going. The line of vehicles hit the road and tore out.
_______________
When they rolled onto the scene it was a total of four vehicles involved. Some were worse than the others. He hadn’t expected you to jump out of the ambulance before it stopped rolling and take off running towards a dark green truck screaming “DANIEL! CALEB”
He instinctively jumped out of rescue squad to run after you. When he got to the truck he saw that you were crawling into the backseat to check on a little boy that was probably close to two and a man that favored you was standing next to the truck with a cut across his forehead. He called your name gently and you looked back “I’m sorry Lieutenant Severide. I know the most serious patients go first but I had to check on my little boy and my brother”
His eyes widened “Your little boy?” you turned your back on him and finished looking over the boy before unbuckling him from the car seat and sliding out of the truck “Kelly this is my son Daniel. Daniel this is mommy’s friend Kelly” “Hey Kelly” Daniel said with a shy smile. “Hey” Kelly greeted. He saw your hands were shaking as you shifted Daniel onto your hip to check your brother..what did you call him..Caleb? Caleb’s head. “Stay with them, I’ll radio another rig and get ritter to assist Brett”
“I can help her” you argued and he shook his head “Stay with your son Medic. That’s an order” you smiled slightly “Yes sir” he nodded “I’ll find you in a little while, after I help clear the scene, ok?” “Ok”
Tumblr media
You were sitting on the curb with Daniel and Caleb while Caleb talked to his insurance company. They were sending a tow truck and a rental car. Guess that was why he paid such a high premium for such good service. He’d only needed butterfly stitches so Sylvie had let you just grab them out of the back of your rig.
“Are you in trouble for coming to us?” Caleb asked and you shook your head “I don’t think so” then saw Kelly head your way “Let’s see” you passed Daniel to his lap then stood to meet Kelly halfway. Daniel waved at him and you smiled when Kelly leaned around you to wave back.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone you had a son?” he asked and you shrugged “Boden knew” he nodded “Is that why you’ve stayed so distant from everyone?” you nodded “People are always friendly and want to get to know you until they find out you have a kid then it’s oh sorry never mind” he smiled softly “He’s a handsome little man. Looks like his mama” you grinned “Thanks Kelly” he nodded “So, that lunch offer?” you rolled your eyes “Really Severide?” he held up a hand “I was gonna say the diner down from the station house has really good waffles. Can I buy you, your son and your brother some?”
You opened your mouth then clamped it shut then opened it again “Did you just ask me out with my whole family?” he nodded, a smile slipping onto his face “I wanna get to know you, that’s all. Daniel is your son, he’s your world. I get that. Caleb is your brother, also important to you. It’s not that big of a deal, it’s just waffles sweetheart” you shook your head “Caleb’s rental will be here in half an hour. They’re even bringing a new car seat too” he grinned “So I guess that’s a yes?” you nodded “I guess it is”

Info: Y/n suffers with panic attacks, and counting seems to help
Relationship: Halstead brothers x sister
Tumblr media
From a young age y/n had always been an anxious child. While her class mates ran around the school yard playing, y/n opted to spend her time curled up in a ball at the corner of the yard, avoiding the concerned looks of teachers. The teachers never bothered her, she was a troubled kid who had good grades so they saw no need to chastise her. She lost her mum early on, and it was no secret that her father was found of the drink. Bother her brothers left home even before their mother died, so the young girl only had herself really.
When Jay returned, he seen the way his sister was and tried to get her out more often. He’d bring her to the park and try encourage her to play with the other children. It always ended in tears, so Jay ended up leaving it, thinking his sister would eventually come out of her shyness and find friends of her own. However in high school y/n became the loner of the class, no one went near her until class projects were due. She was known as the smart one in class, so naturally everyone wanted her on their team to get the good grades. So it was no surprise when she graduated all honours, even became the top of her class. The young girl got scholarships for 4 out of the 5 colleges she applied for, and she started studying forensics and lab.
It was during her early college years when Will came back. Being a doctor, he seen the signs and approached y/n, suggesting she went to get checked out for anxiety. It was in the hospital that y/n had her first panic attack. She was waiting in the waiting room, fiddling with her hands when Dr Charles called out her names. Not being good at talking to people., she often went hours without talking to her brothers, her anxiety hit the roof, and her chest collapsed in on itself. Dr Charles had seen the young girls reaction and called for her brother, before telling him that his sister had anxiety. She winded up in hysterics, and her brother and Charles struggled to help her, before Will started counting their breathing, and the girl started to calm down. Figuring out that counting helped the Halstead girl was a relieve for her brothers. She was given medication to help her, but the odd flare up did happen.
Y/n’s job as a crime scene analyser was a stressful job, but Jay seen his sister become more lively. Her old shy self-became a more energetic young woman, and even though Jay knew that a lot of that was due to the medication Dr. Charles put her on, he could never stop the smile when he seen her passion grow for the work she did. Majority of the crime scenes were never nice to see, but y/n always came with a smile, and left with the attitude to work. Gone were the days Jay would see her sister come to the crime scene with a slouched appearance, staying away from her coworkers and detectives. She begun talking and explaining things to Hank, leaving even Hank impressed with the new y/n.
She’d even spend nights out in Molly’s with Will & Jay after tough cases. Which was where she was when things came down on her. An arson case had just been solved, and y/n had been head of the forensics team for it. It wasn’t often that y/n took the top for cases, due to her anxiety she’d often turn down opportunities like that, but with her anxiety under control she decided to take a chance. Yet the added pressure of meetings with her team and taking control of what went on, y/n couldn’t help the feeling that started to build in her chest.
The Halstead siblings sat in their usual booth at the bar, Jay & Will joking with Severide after coming out of another big case. Many victims had been lost within the fires, and multiple casualties from the fires. Med & 51 had been run off their feet the past few days saving all they could and trying to prevent the fires from spreading, while Pd had been trying to figure out who the person was, and why they were doing it. Multiple charcoaled victims were brought to y/n to analyse, and many scenes were left with little to go by. The big hit was when the arsonist got sloppy, and 51 had gotten to the scene on time to stop the fire, leading to forensics to find his DNA on the letterbox of the front door.
The first sign of y/n’s anxiety would be her being quiet. Having not seen their sister having a panic attack in a while, they never noticed how she stayed away from the conversation, offering a weak smile that they put down to tiredness. The second was when y/n began to pick at the bottles sticker and fidgeting with the bottle. Severide glanced at the younger Halstead as the bottle was heard moving from one hand to the other. The tired sign became evident as y/n cleared her throat and tucked her hair behind her ear before moving in her seat, pushing at Jay slightly to get out.
The fourth sign was the one the Halstead brothers caught onto. Y/n staggered off the booth, hand on her chest as she moved to hold into a stool for balance. Y/n wasn’t one for much drink, so her brothers knew straight away that something was wrong. Glancing at his brother, Will excused himself for Severide to get up before walking towards his sister. Those around them watched as the Halstead sister’s breath became evidently sharp as she made her way to the bathroom. Not caring about it being the women’s bathroom, Will entered after her just as she locked the door to the stall she entered.
“You good?” Jay asked, seeing the slight distress on y/n’s face.
“Bathroom.” Y/n muttered to him ,rushing to get out of the booth and head to the bathroom.
Y/n held her chest as she rushed to close the toilet seat before sitting on it, leaning forwards. Tears streamed down her face as she gasped for breath, and she ignored the knock that came from the door.
Jay had walked to the bar and asked for Stella to help him get into the women’s bathroom. Wanting to be a little sensitive to the fact that it was the women’s bathroom, he got Stella to open the door for him before he went in to his brothers side. Will glanced at his brother with sad eyes, and Jay nodded in understanding.
“Y/n open up please.” Will’s soft vice was heard.
All Will could hear was y/n’s staggered breathing.
“Y/n, let me help.”
“Y/n, I’m going to kick the door in alright.” Jay spoke into the door towards y/n, knowing their sister would probably be in a ball of herself.
Lifting his foot, Jay held onto the sides of the stall as he turned to kick the door, muttering an apology to Stella as he done so. With the door opened, the Halstead’s hearts clenched at the sight of their sister with her knees to her chest, head ducked down. Deciding to move towards their sister, Will gently placed a hand on y/n’s chin, and she flinched at the contact. He forced her to remove her hands from her face and held them in his. She glanced at him with the hood of her eyes, and he smiled reassuringly as he brought her hand to his chest.
Jay watched as Will coached their sister to breath in time with him, and rolled a hand through his hair as she began to breath with their brother. Her breathing turned to hiccups as she started to breath slowly, and Will smiled at her as he placed a hand on her cheek gently.
“We’ll take this slowly Alright?” Will offered, and y/n nodded slightly.
“One.” Ill started, breathing in dramatically, “two.” He repelled his breath, watching y/n try to do the same. “Three.” In “four” out.
Y/n smiled and looked down, wiping her hands before dabbing at her face.
“There you go, that’s it.” Will smiled, talking to her as if she was a child as he wiped a stray tear that fell.
“I’m sorry.” Y/n whispered, looking down.
“It’s okay.” Will reassured her.
“You haven’t had one of them for awhile.” Jay observed, causing his sister to look at him.
“What brought it on?” Will asked, as he moved out of the cubicle so y/n could move to the sink.
“I think taking the lead on the analyses team was a big step, I got a bit freaked out I guess.” Y/n shrugged, cupping water in her hand before splashing her face.
“You were great. But don’t feel you have to continue it now that you’ve done it. What you done was a big case, maybe do a few small ones instead.” Jay stated, kissing the back of her head as he placed his hands on her head and looked at her through the mirror.
“We’re proud of you y/n, you did good. Take it easy on yourself. You took a big step this time, it’ll always be up and down, but your doing amazing regardless.” Will stated, leaning against the sink beside her as he spoke to her.
When y/n left the bathroom she seen Jay talking to a less than impressed Hermann and Will laughing beside him. Seeing the look on her older brothers face, she could tell Hermann was giving out to him about the bathroom door, but it quickly stopped when Stella hit Hermann on the back of the head.
“Take your time and come out when your ready. We can head home and have an early night if you’d like.” Jay stated, running his hands through her hair to get rid of the knots.
“Maybe another drink first.” Y/n smiled weakly, and Jay hugged her from behind.
“Whatever you want.” He smiled at her, kissing her cheek before leaving the bathroom, Will following in toll.
Y/n could only smile at Jay as he turned to face her, and he winked back, letting her take a beer from him before they sat down at their booth, talking with Severide about the time fire department was called to save a cat.
“He was worried about his sister, let him be.” Stella spoke to the older man.
“I’m just saying, you know, there are better ways to getting in than kicking the door in.” Hermann defended himself.
“Sure Hermann, I’ll take it easy next time my sister locks her self in for a panic attack.” Jay stated, rolling his eyes as Stella gave him the three beers.

Frostbitten Love
Request: Ok ok now you got me jumping on the Antonio train as well 🔥
Maybe an idea where you're working at Firehouse 51 and you both catch each other's attention when he visits Gabby and immediately somehow bond with each other, but due to bad experiences with guys in the past, you ignore your feelings as best as possible while Antonio always tries to get closer to you. One cold winter might, all the power wents off, leaving the district and 51 in nearly full darkness and coldness. A lot of helpers, including Antonio, come over helping the people out, and after some hours you all get a break and he finds you alone. So he sits with you and immediately cuddles you, keeping you warm, which also makes your heart melt and finally giving into him ? ❤️
Pairings: Antonio Dawson x Firefighter!Paramedic!Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, mentions of abuse (verbal, physical, mental)
Tumblr media
You moved from there to Chicago when they needed a temporary replacement and once the one you were temporarily replacing came back none of 51 wanted you to leave so after some begging from Chief Wallace Boden, and input from your team members and begging to Boden, you were a permanent member of 51 as a firefighter/paramedic. While you were in Colorado you were cross-trained to be a firefighter and a paramedic and this was your choice but it was also heavily suggested but your old chief, who you adored very much and he could say the same about you, of course he was sad to see you go but he understood that every firehouse wanted you and knew the day would come at some point. He heavily suggested it because when a paramedic or firefighter was out then someone could fill their spot immediately or if the ambulance couldn't make it to a scene quick enough everyone could do what they needed to do until they got there. So, when you got to Chicago and showed this it became a huge asset to them and that caused them to make you a permanent addition.
As you grew more accustomed to the city and your new firehouse you were quick to make fast friends with everyone and this extended beyond the firehouse, it extended to Intelligence and Med. You got to know them through being scenes or dropping patients off at Med. There was one person on your team that you made fast friends with and you would consider her as a sister, well you would consider everyone as your brother and sister but that is more in the first responder setting this went beyond that. Her name is Gabriela Dawson, she was the one to instantly connect with and she was dragging you to many events and not once you didn’t complain. You learned a lot about each other like she had a brother in Intelligence and she learned that you didn’t have any siblings and that you had just gotten out of a pretty nasty relationship, well all your relationships there were never great though some were good but most were nasty and left you with some crippling fear and some physical reminders of how bad it was. Along with becoming friends with Gabby you grew to know her brother, Antonio Dawson, and you must admit that he was very good looking, you so wanted to become closer to him and you wanted to even date him but that crippling always came back full force and it caused you to stay away.
You could clearly remember how you met Antonio; he had come into the firehouse looking for his sister for some police matter and ran into you. When he saw you, he instantly became entranced and wanted to get to know you more. He thought and still does think you are the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on and nothing you change his mind. You and Gabby had just come back from a call and Gabby had gone to talk with Matthew Casey about something while you took on the job of restocking the ambulance. You had your back turned to him to where the supplies were when you heard his voice and Kelly Severide’s voice. “Hey, Kelly. You know where my sister is?” Antonio’s voice sounded and it was smooth and you instantly fell in love but you weren’t going to show it.
“I think she’s talking with Casey but I will go and get her.” Kelly said
“Thank you.” He said
“No, problem.” Kelly replied and now it was just you and him in the bay. He didn’t speak but you knew he was still there but you weren’t going to make a move. You had gone into your own little space and forgotten about him until his voice was right behind you.
“I’ve never seen you around here before.” Antonio said and you jumped and turned around to him holding your chest where your heart is and breathing slightly heavy.
“You scared the shit out of me.” You said taking your hand away from your chest.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I’m Antonio Dawson, Gabby’s brother. She has told me a lot about you but didn’t tell me how beautiful you were.” He said, holding out his hand and you took your free hand that wasn’t holding supplies and shook his hand.
“All good things I hope.” You said completely ignoring the beautiful part. “I’m Y/N Y/L/N. I’m the new firefighter/paramedic. Moved here from Colorado. She has told me many things about you too.” You said and smiled and then released his hand.
“Well, it is nice to meet you and I hope it was all good things you’ve heard.” He said and was about to say something else but Gabby came over to the two of you.
“I see you two finally met. Kelly said you wanted me?” She had said pointing the last part towards her brother.
“Oh yes. It was about your last patient.” He said and you looked at her.
“You can tell him. I’m gonna finish restocking.” You said and she nodded and then nodded to the kitchen area.
“I’ll see you around Y/N.” He said and you smiled and nodded and then they went into the kitchen leaving you alone. Once you heard the door shut you turned around and smiled like a fool to yourself. Once the ambulance was restocked you had gone into the firehouse itself and went to the bunk area and laid down. So, you didn’t get to see Antonio leave and you were somewhat grateful for that. As you laid you thought about him.
The next time you saw him was when everyone had gotten off shift and headed over to Molly’s. Everyone had just finished a 3-day shift and you were very much looking forward to having a drink and then going to bed and sleeping for the next 2 days, not really but it’s going to feel so nice to actually sleep without bells ringing sometimes every second. “So, what is your plan for the rest of your 3 days off?” Gabby asked as you grabbed your bag, she already had hers on her shoulder and she was just beginning to make her way to her car.
“Well, Kelly and Casey asked me to go to Molly’s with the rest of you and I agreed, so that. Then afterwards I’m going to go home and sleep in my own bed for three days and enjoy not having to get up a bell for what seems like every second.” You said and she chuckled.
“I’ll probably be doing the same but I just know that Antonio will be dragging me somewhere.” She said as the both of you reached your cars. Your heart picked up just a beat at her mentioning her brother but once again you didn’t let it show. “You know he has not stopped talking about you.” She said.
“Oh?” You asked and she nodded.
“Every chance he gets he’s asking about you.” She said
“I’m not that interesting.” You said as you threw your bag into the back end of your car.
“He begs to differ.” She said and you shook your head.
“I’ll see you at Molly’s.” You said and she smiled and nodded.
“I’ll see you there.” She said and then you were getting in and starting your car up and then heading to the bar called Molly’s it's mainly known as a first responder bar but everyone was allowed in, it was owned by Christopher Herrmann, Randall ‘Mouch’ McHolland, who were two of your co-workers, and Trudy Platt, who worked at the precinct and somehow the two of you hit it off, and Stella Kidd, is a worker and manager. It wasn’t a very far drive and you were thankful for that. You pulled into a parking spot close to the bar and under a streetlight. You were quick to get out and rush in like you could outrun the cold that seemed to take over the city quickly. When you were in you were instantly met with the heat and you basked in it until a voice was calling out to you that you recognized as Connor Rhodes, you looked up and smiled at him as he made his way over to you.
“Hey.” He said and hugged you and you hugged you back.
“Fancy seeing you here.” You said as you both released each other.
“Just got off shift.” He said and you were following him to where he was sitting with some of his fellow co-workers, some Intelligence, and some of your coworkers.
“So did we.” You said and the talking, laughing, sharing stories, and cases went on throughout the night. You had volunteered to go and get more drinks and while you were up there ordering Antonio had walked in and when he spotted you, he smiled and walked up to you.
“So, we meet again.” He said and you turned to him and smiled.
“Seems like it.” You said, the bar was busy and considering it is a Friday night you expected it. So, when it was taking longer to get drinks you didn’t mind one bit. The two of you talked and he tried to get closer to you but you weren’t allowing it. When you eventually did get your drinks, you were heading back to the table with him following behind carrying the rest. For the rest of the night everyone laughed and had a great time. Throughout the night Antonio did not take his eyes off of you and when it was time to leave, he was walking you to your car and making sure you got in safely and then watched you drive off.
************************
It was now December and Chicago was experiencing its coldest winter ever. The pipes were freezing and there were icicles hanging from the power lines and bringing them down enough that it was causing them to make power outages happen, some even breaking. No electricity meant no heat in people’s houses causing them to be without heat. When no heat was getting into people’s houses meant that the firehouse became a shelter. The firehouse being so big and an emergency center meant that there were some fairly big generators and several of them and considering you were from Colorado it just made sense.
The big power outage just had to happen when you were on shift. You had just come into work and everyone met in the meeting room. There was chatter when Boden walked in and everyone became silent. “Alright listen up. It’s one of the coldest winters that Chicago has ever experienced. Electricity is going out which means that heat is going out and a lot of calls are going to be coming in so be prepared for that. For people that don’t have electricity or heat know they can come here, shelters and the schools are opening up since generators are set up for here, shelters, and the schools. Blankets will be available and passed out and the bunks and any available space will have cots set up. Food and water will be passed out as well.” He said and everyone either gave a nod or gave their acknowledgement letting him know they heard him. As he dismissed everyone and started to set up cots and get supplies ready. As you were getting blankets out you looked up and saw Antoino and all of Intelligence coming.
“Hey.” You said, you had gotten to know him over the months but still wouldn’t get close to him but that might change tonight.
“Hey, we decided to come down and help.” Antonio said and you smiled.
“Thank you to all of you. We need some help moving and setting up cots and getting more blankets down.” You said and they nodded and then you were telling them where to go and who to ask about things. As everyone divided and went their separate ways but one stayed and that would be Antiono. As the time turned into hours and a bunch of people flooded in and some other first responders and medical staff had decided to come down and help. All of Intelligence had decided to come down and help, a lot of people were split up to help at the firehouse and others were sent to the shelters to help down there. You were becoming exhausted; you were non-stop going and Antonio saw this but even he didn’t have time to go over and check on you since he was busy. After making sure you were doing ok from afar, he paid a lot of his attention to the people coming in.
“Hey, Tonio!” Gabby’s voice sounded to his ears and he looked up and smiled and saw his sister.
“Hey, Gabs.” He said and hugged her.
“The amount of people coming in is slowing down. So, why don’t you go and take a break? It’s bound to pick back up soon and throughout the night.” She said and she nodded as they released each other.
“I think I will.” He said and she smiled and walked away. He looked around for you but couldn’t find you so he started to walk around. When he couldn’t find you inside, he decided to look outside so he grabbed his coat and put it on and headed outside and that is where he found you, sitting on a picnic table looking up at the sky. The moon was full so the moonlight hitting you made you look like an angel, in his eyes. Snow was still following and it was following in your hat and that made him smile. He also noticed that you had your issued Chicago Fire Department winter coat and beanie on and that made him happy that you had grabbed it. He stood there watching you for a second before he decided to make his way over to you but you seemed to notice his presence.
“Staring is rude.” You said still looking up at the sky and didn’t stop until he was sitting beside you.
“You’re too beautiful not to stare at.” He said looking you in the eyes. “What are you dining out here? It’s freezing.” He said as if he wasn’t used to the harsh weather that Chicago threw at them from time to time.
“I needed a break from inside. Don’t get me wrong I love helping people but sometimes you just need to get away. Plus, the weather and darkness reminded me of Colorado.” You said and he smiled and nodded and you turned to look out over the nearly dark city. It was silent for a minute and then he was talking again.
“Come here.” He said and you turned your head and looked at him and he had opened his arms up. You hesitated a beat having a mental fight with yourself and decided that this man had been so good to you and has tried his best to get close to you that you were going to give him a chance. All the months that he had been getting close to you or at least trying to you were falling in love with him.
“What made you become a firefighter/paramedic?” He asked and you looked back over at him and your cheeks were tinged pink despite you being bundled up and you Chicago Fire Department beanie on and him cuddling you. Maybe you were blushing but you’re going to blame it on the cold.
“Well, the firefighter part runs in my family and I never wanted to break that tradition. I love helping people in need and I love the adrenaline rush. My old chief pushed all of us to cross-train to be a paramedic just in case the ambulance couldn’t be there in time or more were needed on scene.” You said and he held onto every word and you could tell and you appreciated that, none of your other relationships paid attention to you when you talked about your profession. As you sat and talked and looked out into the city watching the snowfall and covering the roads further the cold was getting hasher and actually getting to you despite the heavy winter coat you had on and you started to shiver slightly and he took notice of this. Antonio never once took his eyes off of you and he was smiling hearing you talk. It was silent again.
“Can I ask why you won’t let me get close to you?” He asked and you sighed and looked at him. You knew this was coming.
“When I lived back in Colorado my relationships weren’t the best. Most of them cheated on me and most were abusive to me, mentally, physically, and verbally. After my last one I vowed not to get in a relationship not wanting it to happen again. But then I met you and everything changed and you made me see that not all men are evil. I didn’t want to get close to you at first because of that fear but after getting to know you all these months and you holding me now is making me change my mind.” You were honest with him and he listened.
“I understand but I will never hurt you and if I did then my sister, all of 51, Med, and Intelligence would let me have it. You’ve made quite a few friends.” He said and you chuckled. “Will you give me the chance and let me take you on a date and let me show you that I will never hurt you?” He asked and you had already made up your mind before he even finished his sentence.
“I would love that.” You said and he smiled.
“Can I kiss you? I know it is fast but I can’t wait a second longer.” He said and you chuckled and nodded.
“Yes.” You said and so he leaned down and kissed you softly and you kissed him back just as soft. Sparks seemed to fly when your lips connected and you knew this relationship would be different. You don’t know why you waited for months. Maybe part of you wanted to protect you from getting hurt again and maybe it was the trauma that kept you from being loved. This kiss undid everything and you found safety within him. You’ve made up your mind and you were going to let him show you how it is to be loved and how a guy could be a great boyfriend to his girlfriend.

Kelly Severide- An Unforgettable Anniversary Pt1
Tumblr media
YN woke up to the sound of her alarm clock, today was her and Kelly's 3rd anniversary, and she had planned a dinner at the restaurant where they had their first date. Feeling giddy she rolls over to face her boyfriend who was still fast asleep. Leaning down she places a kiss on his cheek which stirs him
"Happy anniversary" she smiles
"Happy anniversary babe" he replies "what time is it?"
"7"
"Shit, I've got to be at the station for " "I thought you were going to get the day off?" YN pouts
"I tried, I'm sorry"
"Please be back for 6 though tonight"
"Of course" and with that Kelly gets out of bed and gets ready for work, leaving a disappointed YN in bed.
Being a firefighter, Kelly's schedule was unpredictable, and sometimes duty called even on the most important days. YN knew this since she and Kelly actually met during the academy, it just so happened that YN works at a different station which meant her days off can sometimes be very different to her boyfriends. Despite Kelly's absence, she spent the day preparing a surprise gift for him, a handmade scrapbook filled with memories of their time together. YN spent most of the day gluing and sticking, then a good part of the afternoon getting ready for the date she had planned, but when 5:30 came and there was no sign of her boyfriend, YN checked her phone to see a few missed calls off him. Her heart sank knowing why he was calling. Taking in a breath she phoned Kelly back to be told that they had been called out to massive job and probably wouldn't be home un until gone 8. YN tried to not let her voice waver, but Kelly could clearly hear disappointment. She had been looking forward to this evening for weeks, and now it seemed like all her plans had been ruined. As the phone call ended YN felt a wave of sadness wash over her. She knew that Kelly's job was important, but she couldn't help but wish that they could have celebrated their anniversary together. Feeling the weight of disappointment settling in her chest, YN decided to not waist the evening and phoned her friend Erin. She knew that Erin, being a police officer, would understand the sacrifices that come with loving someone in a high-stress, unpredictable profession, and of course her friend didn't disappoint saying she will meet YN at Molly's in 15 minuets.
As YN walked through the door, the familiar sounds of laughter and clinking glasses washed over her, momentarily lifting her spirits. Spotting Erin at their usual table in the corner, YN made her way over and sank into the chair across from her. Erin looked up
"Hey" she gives YN a weak smile handing her a bottle of beer
"Thanks" YN replies taking the bottle and taking a sip
"How are you feeling?" "Disappointed I suppose, but I know what the jobs like and how important it is to him. I just wished that he could have gotten the day off"
"I'm sorry, YN. I know how much this day means to you," Erin said, her voice filled with understanding "were you able to rearrange the dinner?"
"No" shaking her head YN replies "I had to cancel it and pay a fee" "What! seriously?"
"Yeah well it was an expensive restaurant. I guess part of it is my fault, I should have told Kelly about the dinner months ago when I booked it"
"These things happen, Jay and I missed a reservation because we were to busy...."
"Ok thank you Erin I don't need to know about what you and Jay get up to" YN jokes
Not realising how long the 2 had been sat at the bar chatting, it was only when the familiar sound of the bar door opening caught her attention. Turning to look, she was met with the sight of Kelly, standing in the doorway with a nervous stance. Looking down at her phone YN can see that its now 8:30, she wasn't expecting to be out as long as she had, YN wanted to be home when Kelly got back, but here she is instead drinking her sorrows away. Kelly made his way over to YN, his eyes never leaving hers as he knelt down on one knee, a small velvet box in his hand. YN's hands immediately cupping her mouth supressing a gasp
"YN, these past three years with you have been the greatest blessing of my life. Thank you for your love, your laughter and your unwavering support. You have been my rock over these few years and I can't imagine my life without you by my side. So YN my beautiful, gorgeous, funny, sexy girlfriends, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife and marry me?" Kelly asks, YN stands there speechless, tears threatening to spill. Not trusting her voice in that moment all YN could do was nod, causing Kelly to chuckle "is that a yes then?"
"Of course its a yes" Kelly slips on delicate ring on YN's finger, small but elegant, before picking up his now fiancé and twirling her around. YN can hear cheers and clapping around, but her focus solely on the man of her dreams, the man she will now marry and spend the rest of her life with.

Right in front of you | Leslie Shay
Tumblr media
Pairing: Leslie Shay x Reader Reader pronouns used: she/her Prompt: "Is that a hickey?" Masterlist | Chicago Fire masterlist | Words: 1k
You loved to cook at the firehouse around the corner, on your days off from the family owned restaurant you worked at. Besides loving to cook, it was also a way for you to see your girlfriend when she was on shift. The environment at 51 was also not bad, you loved being around the people that Shay called her family, even though most of them didn’t know you and Shay were a thing. The two of you didn’t mind people knowing, you just didn’t want to make telling people such a big deal. Severide and Dawson knew for sure as they were her best friends, and maybe some other people had guessed and just never mentioned it. There were however also a few people that were definitely still clueless, like Cruz and Otis, as they were about to prove to you once again, you realized when you saw them walk in with their eyes focussed on you.
“Good morning boys, how was the call?” You ask as you put some scrambled eggs and bacon on a plate for each of them. Cruz was quick to give you an answer, priding himself on saving the day. “I rescued an old lady from her house before it was engulfed in flames.” Otis quickly chimes in, “Not before I located her and told you where to find her.” It was adorable how hard they were trying.  “Sounds like a great start to the day, then.” You smile.
You had been coming to prepare food at the station for a few months now. When Shay had breakfast duty one day she asked if you could prepare breakfast for take out at the restaurant, after she relayed the many compliments the team gave to the food, you had suggested coming over to cook breakfast in the firehouse once a week, much to Shay and the team's liking.
Not a day at the firehouse went by without Cruz and Otis trying to flirt with you. Not responding to their flirts or not showing the same interests back didn't stop them from trying every time, though. You had mentioned it to Shay after the first time it happened, wanting to be open about it. She just laughed at their antics with you, before she pecked your lips and told you, “You just tell them off or tell them about us if it gets annoying, okay?” So far, you had just found it funny, and decided to see how long they were going to keep this up, still not in any way giving them a signal that you were interested in them, of course.
You were still making scrambled eggs when Shay and Dawson got back from their call. They walked right up to you for their food, a cup of coffee, and of course they started a conversation with you. When they sat down with the rest of the team Shay overheard Cruz and Otis whispering amongst themselves. “We should start a bet on who will be able to get y/n to go on a date with them first.” She exchanges a look with Dawson, both of them working hard on keeping their laughter in. Shay, like you, thought their antics were hilarious, so she didn't stop them, unless you would get uncomfortable by it.
Shay joins the conversation of their other teammates. She gets tired of her hair in her face so she puts her hair up in a quick messy bun. “Wow, Shay, is that a hickey?” Mills gasps. Dawson turns Shay's head her way so she can see for herself. “Sure looks like a hickey, Mills, never seen one before?” The brunette jokes. The rest of the team starts bombarding your girlfriend with questions, you look over to the group as it starts quite the commotion. “Okay, okay, calm down. You all get one question.” Shay says, knowing these people well enough to know they were going to drop it.
Capp starts off the questioning round. “Is she hot?” He immediately gets a shove to the shoulder by Tony, “Was that seriously the best you could do?” After he shrugs, Shay answers, “Yes, she's very hot.” Mills goes next, “One night stand?” She shakes her head, “No.” The team shares a look before Casey asks the next question, “Does Severide know who it is then?” Severide answers that one, letting the team know that he does. Otis decides to ask the next question, “Do we know her?” Shay noticed that you were walking towards the table with your own plate of food. “Yes, you do.” She says. You can see their brains working overtime, and have to try to hold in your laugh, as you sit down besides Shay.
You share a look with Shay, letting her know that however she wants to handle this, it is okay with you. She smiles and puts her arm over the back of your chair. “It's really not that hard to think of a person that you all know.” She says, pulling their eyes back to her. The arm on your chair makes its way to your side, as she pulls you closer to her. “She's literally sitting right in front of you.” After finishing her sentence she places a kiss on your forehead and keeps holding you close. Most of the reactions to the news were comments along the lines of that’s great, congratulations, or you’ve got to keep this one around followed by Mouch pointing to the food and then giving a thumbs up. Of course, those reactions were all great, however, your favorite reactions were those of Cruz and Otis. Their eyes widened when they realized they had been flirting with Shay’s girlfriend for weeks.
The newly found information made the team quickly forget about the hickey that started the conversation, as the team was happy to see Shay so happy with you. They continued asking you both questions, how did you meet? and how long have you been together? until the alarm rang and all companies were being called to a scene. Shay kisses you before getting up, “Thank you for breakfast, baby.”

can we discuss kelly severide’s arc because i would like to
like let’s look back in season 1. he was dealing with substance abuse. he was dealing with the death of his childhood best friend (which he was also being blamed for). he had so many relationship problems and, even though the early seasons clearly set up that he wanted a family and to be a dad, he went through so much in that area that eventually he kind of gave up. but then enters stella kidd. and he found a person that he wanted to be better for and wanted to build a life with more than anything. and the thing is he didn’t magically become a better man for stella, he always had a good heart, it just wasn’t until stella came that he stopped guarding his heart. and that is the perfect representation of his arc. because as he has grown and healed, he has learned how to be the partner he always knew stella deserved. and now they’re going on three years of an incredibly happy marriage and expecting a child. he has everything he ever wanted with the person it was always meant to happen with🥺

Family Ties
Summary: maybe playing games that involve people's emotions baggage isn't a good idea - Kelly learns that the hard way.
Paring: Matt Casey x Kelly Severide
Tumblr media
“Okay, maybe playing ‘whose family is most dysfunctional’ wasn’t the best idea we’ve had,” Kelly Severide said, running a hand through his hair in frustration. He leaned against the wall in the firehouse kitchen, glancing at his husband, Matt Casey, who was currently holed up in the bathroom.
They had been enjoying a quiet evening with some of their closest friends from Firehouse 51, each taking turns sharing their family stories—some funny, some cringeworthy, and others painfully relatable. The laughter had flowed freely until they reached the topic of family dysfunction, which had hit a bit too close to home for Matt.
“Casey’s been crying in the bathroom for an hour. We can’t get him out,” Kelly continued, his tone a mixture of concern and exasperation. “What do we do?”
Cruz, who had been washing dishes nearby, looked up with a grin. “Honestly? I thought it was just a fun game. Who knew it would hit that hard?”
“I thought we were just sharing stories to bond, not send him into a breakdown!” Kelly exclaimed, frustration evident in his voice. “I should’ve known better. I’m going to try and talk to him.”
Before he could reach the bathroom door, however, the door swung open, and Matt stepped out, his face a mixture of red and puffy eyes. The laughter in the room died down as everyone turned their attention to him.
“Matt…” Kelly began softly, concern etched on his face.
“I’m fine,” Matt said quickly, though it was clear he wasn’t. He attempted a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Just needed a minute.”
“Yeah, a minute,” Kelly replied gently. “You’ve been gone for a while. Do you want to talk about it?”
Matt shook his head, but he could see the understanding in Kelly’s gaze, the way his husband always seemed to know when to push and when to pull back.
“Come on, Casey,” Kelly said, stepping closer. “You don’t have to put on a brave face with me. You know that.”
“I just… I guess hearing everyone’s stories reminded me of my own family,” Matt said, his voice shaky as he leaned against the bathroom door frame for support. “It’s hard sometimes, you know? I thought I was over it.”
“Hey,” Kelly said softly, reaching out to take Matt’s hand in his. “You don’t have to be over anything. We’re a family, and we deal with things together. You know that, right?”
Matt squeezed Kelly’s hand, grounding himself in the familiar comfort of his husband’s touch. “Yeah, I know. It’s just that my family… they were never really there for me. I guess it still hurts sometimes.”
Cruz, who had been observing quietly, spoke up. “You’re not alone in this, Casey. We’ve all got our baggage. Just look at all of us. But we’ve also got each other. That’s what matters.”
“Exactly,” Kelly said, nodding in agreement. “We’re here for you. Always. You’re part of our family now, and we’re not going anywhere.”
Matt took a deep breath, the weight of his emotions slowly lifting as he felt the warmth of their support. “Thanks, guys. I just didn’t want to bring everyone down.”
“Bringing everyone down? Nah,” Cruz said, shaking his head. “We all need those moments sometimes. It’s part of being a family. If we can’t be honest with each other, what’s the point?”
Matt smiled, feeling a flicker of hope igniting in his chest. “You’re right. I just need to remember that.”
“Why don’t we turn this around?” Kelly suggested, a playful glint in his eyes. “Let’s share the most embarrassing family story instead. Trust me, it’ll lighten the mood.”
Matt chuckled softly, feeling more like himself. “You first,” he said, raising an eyebrow.
“Okay, okay,” Kelly said, clearing his throat dramatically. “So, once upon a time in a faraway land called Chicago, I was forced to wear a bright pink tutu for a charity event…”
As Kelly launched into his story, Matt couldn’t help but laugh, the sound echoing through the kitchen. His heart warmed as he watched his friends share their own embarrassing tales, each one a thread woven into the fabric of their family.
In that moment, surrounded by laughter and love, Matt realized that while his past might have been filled with heartache, he had created a new family that would always be there for him, no matter what. And that was more than enough.
As the laughter continued, Matt felt the weight of his worries lift, replaced by the warmth of belonging. With Kelly by his side and their chosen family around them, he knew he could face whatever challenges lay ahead—together.

Insecure - [ Brian ‘Otis’ Zvonecek ]
Summary: Otis feels insecure in his relationship with you every time he’s reminded that your ex boyfriend is Lieutenant Kelly Severide requested
Word Count: 1863
Warnings: female!reader, angst/happy ending, jealousy
Masterlist | Otis Masterlist
Tumblr media
Otis always was insecure in your relationship. How could he not be when your ex was Kelly Severide, the infamous Squad Lieutenant with a reputation of being a ladies man? Who you still happened to be best friends with, he might add.
He had no idea how you could have possibly gone from a man like Severide to a man like him, one who was so different in every single way. But despite all that, despite the lingering self doubts about himself, Otis thought of himself as nothing more than lucky. Really lucky. Lucky that a woman like you would choose a guy like him over literally any guy, as let’s face it, men always were hitting on you and you were often telling them to get lost.
But in spite of that, there was still something that worried Otis. Something he kept hidden away, deep, deep down inside him in a place that had never seen the light of day. And that was, that he was afraid. He was so afraid that one day, who knows when, that you might get bored with him, or rather get bored of him, and run off back to Severide. He didn’t think he’d ever be able to stay at fifty-one should they happen.
Otis didn’t like thinking about that, not one bit. He was madly in love with you, even if he hadn’t told you yet, and even the mere thought of you running back to your ex hurt him, but sometimes he just couldn’t help it, especially on days like today when he went looking for you only to find you inside Severide’s office, sitting cross legged on his bed like you owned the place. That’s when the hatred he often felt for Severide began to bubble furiously inside him.
“So if it’s not insurance fraud then what it is?” You asked, your brows furrowed as you looked down at the photos and reports that lay scattered across Severide’s bunk.
“Your guess is as good as mine.” Severide sighed, throwing his pen down before stretching his arms above his head and turning in his chair. The first thing he saw was Otis, standing in the middle of the bunk room, practically seething, as he all but turned Severide to stone. “Oh boy.”
“What? Did you figure it out?” Your head shot up, tilting a little at Severide, who wasn’t even looking at his notes. Instead he was staring straight out the door, and when you followed his finger which he held pointed out in front of him, you soon came to see just what exactly he was talking about.
The second your eyes landed on Otis he turned and scurried out of the bunk room, the door slamming shut behind him with enough force even you could hear it hit the frame from within Severide’s office. You sighed, your shoulders dropping from where they’d strained to look out the office window as you ran your hand through your hair.
“He needs to get over it.” Severide chuckled, shaking his head as he spun back around to face his desk.
“Can you really blame him?” You muttered, throwing your legs over the edge of the bunk before standing up, wincing a touch at how stiff you’d gotten from being hunched over so long. You quickly stretched before you grabbed your jacket, throwing it over your shoulders before you headed off to find Otis.
You knew where he’d be as it was often the same place he usually went when he got jealous, which you couldn’t fault him for as you knew how he felt about Severide. But you’d already explained to him once that Severide was your best friend, something you couldn’t change as the two of you had gone through too much together, and you just really needed Otis to understand that because you loved him and you didn’t want to lose him.
“Thought I’d find you up here.” You said as you reached the top of the ladder that Otis had placed alongside the building so that he could sit on the roof, the one place he knew no one else would bother him as they didn’t want to have to climb it.
He sat with his back to the ledge, leaning against the thick concrete with his knees bent and his arms lying loose atop them. He was looking down at the ground so you couldn’t see his face, but you knew the look he had. You could tell by his posture and when he spoke, his words just backed up your initial suspicion.
“Shouldn’t you be with Severide?” He spat quietly, unable to hide his harsh tone as he couldn’t seem to control his emotions when it came to the topic of you and your ex. One who he never really got along with, not after the whole incident with Severide’s friend anyway. That just made things worse honestly.
“Brian.” You scolded, crossing your arms as you came to stand before him, your shadow casting over him. He didn’t look up. Instead he simply bowed his head lower and scratched at the back of his neck, making you sigh softly before you crouched down in front of him and placed your hand atop his knee. “Brian, look at me.”
After a second of hesitation, Otis finally looked up at you, his face blank as he tried to hide his true emotions from you. But he never could, not when you could see them deep behind his eyes and you always were the only one who could see those. You lifted your hand from his knee, setting it gently against the side of his face, feeling your heart clench when he couldn’t help but lean into your touch.
Even when he was pissed at you he still seeked your touch. Your comfort. Which only made this all the more harder as the last thing you wanted was to accidentally hurt him.
“Baby, we talked about this.” You said softly, shuffling a little closer to him so that your own legs were touching his. You didn’t know what to say to him to make him understand. You’d already said everything but you just never seemed to be able to fully get through to him.
“Do you still love him?” Otis blurted out, taking you thoroughly by surprise as you almost fell forward into him. You never expected those words to come flying out of his mouth, especially not in that tone. One so full of fear and worry. It damn near broke your heart.
“No.” You said instantly, shaking your head. “I don’t love Kelly… At least not in the way you think.” You added, hearing a soft scoff leave Otis’s lips. “Brian, listen to me… Kelly and I… We’ve been through a lot together. Growing up, we went through the same things… The same shit with our families, our friends. And the only other person we truly had was each other…
“After Andy died, it was hard, for both of us… And after losing Shay.” Your voice began to tremble over the name of your best friend, the one you missed more than anything. “We were broken… Alone… And we thought being together might fix things but it didn’t. It made things worse… Kelly and I? We’re cut from the same cloth, we should have known it would never work but baby… You and I? We work.
“You helped bring me back from that dark place, the one I didn’t think I’d ever get out of… Not after Shay.” You added, your wavering voice making Otis take your hand as he began to regret his actions. He didn’t want to have to make you repeat yourself again, but this time it felt different. This time you talked about Shay, something you never did, and it was because of that that made Otis realise he’d been so stupid.
“You’re the one I love, Brian. Not Kelly. I love you more than anything and I really need you to see that.” You whispered, falling properly to your knees as your legs began to hurt from how long you’d crouched down.
“I do see that.” Otis said quietly, getting to his own knees so he could be level with you. He took your face in his hands, looking you deep in the eyes. “I do… And I love you too. I love you so goddamn much.”
You fell against him, allowing him to embrace you in a hug that was tighter than ever before. Your fists gripped his jacket tight, your face buried in the crook of his neck and you could smell his cologne anytime you inhaled, a scent that brought you comfort as it reminded you of all the times he held you while you cried over Shay. Something that took you months to finally do after repressing it for so long.
“I’m sorry, baby.” He whispered, stroking your hair as he held you. “I should have listened to you when you told me the first time. I guess I just… Seeing you with him, then being reminded that you still live with him… I guess I just can’t help but think the worst.”
“I know…” You breathed out, pulling back a little to look him in the eyes.
“And that’s not me saying I don’t trust you.” He quickly stammered out, making you chuckle over his flustered nature. He always was cute when he was nervous. “Because I do… I just don’t trust Severide, that’s all.”
“I know.” You said again through a soft chuckle. “I wouldn’t trust him either if I were you. But you don’t have to worry about that anymore.”
“I don’t?” Otis said curiously, his eyebrow arching a touch.
“You don’t.” You shook your head, leaning in to place a soft kiss against his lips. “Not when I’m moving in with you… If you want, that is.”
“I do.” He said instantly. “I do want… But only if you do. I don’t want to make you feel forced or anything.” He added with a hint of casualness behind his clear want to have you move in with him.
“I do want to… More than anything I want to.” You said softly, watching his smile rise on his face as you gently brushed back his curls. “I want to be able to wake up next to you every morning… And fall asleep next to you every night.”
You leaned in again, kissing him gently as you felt all his worries, all his fears, leave his body. The tension he held in his body left him, allowing his posture to soften as he held you, making you feel safe and warm in his arms. You couldn’t express how happy you were with him. How much you looked forward to living with him and you knew the second you moved in, that first night you spent in his arms, that it would feel like you’d been there forever.
“I’m gonna need to get rid of my Star Wars bed sheets now.” He said quietly against your lips, making you chuckle before you simply responded.
“Don’t you dare… Those are my favourites.”

Totally with you on the Tommy-thing. Fandom makes me dislike him so I am not reading things about him any longer. This entire storyline is good for representation, yeah but so fsr not really showcasing a good relationship. Tommy let Buck stand there because he was fed up but he knew Buck is new to this. What did he expect?
And yeah, Lou is a totally different story there. I like sseing his view on things.
Btw do you think JHL will get as much flack for following the transphobe on IG now as Ryan did a while ago? Guess not huh?
I have resorted to blocking all bucktommy groupies, they make me dislike the fandom experience.
I have no beef with the actors, I love all of them, my problems are ever with the writers and showrunners that handles themselves in a very idiotic way when it comes to Buck and Eddie.
It's like they only know how to develop characters that are in established relationships or how to develop a character within a relationship only, and even that they do poorly because they haven't even decided after 7 SEASONS where they want the boys to end.
And by the way, since the only way they know is how to develop the characters only inside a relationship is also why Buck and Eddie are so intertwined, because if you notice, they are only growing when they are written together! The writers wrote themselves into this corner.
Anyone watching other shows knows that best friends are not written that way, that they have their own individual stories and they come together for a good beer hangout or heart to heart, or relationship advices or rooming together (Casey and Severide) because their roommate and best friend died (Severide and Shay) or their house burned down chasing a story with the reporter LI (Casey and I can't remember her name atm but she was good for him).
There are so many ways to write best friends without them being mistaken for endgame, but that is not what is happening in 911 and Oliver confirmed it himself, neither Eddie nor Buck are written in a straight manner and the actors know that, the question is, will the showrunners catch up eventually?
Lou is awesome, I like him, I like him in any show I 've seen him, lately that was SWAT. He's a good actor and seems like he's fun to be around, in a way, they kind brought Ryan/Eddie 2.0 to the cast, I find it very amusing lol.
LOL no, Ryan has been controversial even before Chrysti-Ann brought him down with her, he's poc, he's not Oliver, he speaks his mind and he doesn't cater to stupid and demanding hetero-normative showrunners. How dare he? lol
People were #TeamEvan even before #buddie came into our lives, Lou being added is the perfect excuse to tarnish Eddie so they can put him out of the picture - the haters of course - it's pretty clear that Tim is very fond of him.
And Murphy brought him in without an audition because he knows how good of an actor he really is.
JLH, like Oliver, is a fan favorite, and a beautiful fun white woman, no way would she get any blowback as Ryan. Toxicity in this fandom brings about a lot of hypocritical aspects, but that is a lot of reflection of the lives we live today outside of the fandom.
All we can do is curate our dashes and filters and make for a fun and safe environment to enjoy our time in.

Hold On- Pt 1/2

Kelly Severide x Reader
When Kelly hears about a threat at med he doesn't think he's gonna end up facing losing even more than the love of his life
Warnings: Gun violence, death of a child, shooting of a pregnant female
“Kelly!” you all but giggled his name out, he had you down on the bed and was teasing every spot he knew would pull a reaction out of you with his lips and tongue. He’d worked his way down your neck and was now kissing across your collarbone. “What baby? You really want me to stop?” he teased, blue eyes moving up to meet yours. You felt your face warm under the intensity of his gaze. God you loved this man. “Not really, I mean I’d much rather keep you in bed then send you off to walk into fires”
He smiled and pressed a kiss onto your chest “Love, you know I’m going to always find my way back to you if there is any way possible” you ran your nails through his short hair, teasing the grey locks and smiling when he nuzzled further into your touch “I know Kel, doesn’t help me feelings any about the love of my life being in danger every damn time he goes to work”
“Well you know if something does happen and they can get me to Gaffney, Rhodes will do everything in his power to bring me back to you” he teased and you shoved playfully at his head “Do not use Connor to tease me!”  He laughed and moved up the bed, turning to lay on his back and pulled you towards him so you didn’t have a choice but to straddle his waist.
You crossed your arms and he grinned, gently unfolding them and taking your left hand in both of his. He ran a finger over your engagement ring “I promise you. I will dig my way out of hell itself if need be to be able to become your husband” you shook your head “I wish you wouldn’t take how dangerous your job is so lightly Kelly. I love you, I respect your job but you need to respect that it is a little nerve wracking” he nodded, “I know baby. That’s why I call you so much during the day, just to calm your nerves. I love you”
You leaned down to press your lips against his “I love you too Kelly” he grinned against your lips “We have enough time” you laughed and braced your hands against his chest, enjoying how the smooth muscles moved under your palms “Then don’t waste the damn time” he pulled you down to him and flipped both of you over “Yes ma’am”
Tumblr media
You stared at the little plastic test in front of you. The two pink lines felt like they were staring back. You were pregnant, at least a few weeks from how damn dark those lines were. This wasn’t a faint positive by any means.
You took a deep breath, a smile working its way onto your face. Your wedding was in a couple weeks, maybe you wouldn’t have to get many more alterations done to your dress? At least you knew you hadn’t just randomly gained weight now, right?
A laugh escaped you at your own dumb little joke. You snapped a photo of the test so you could show Kelly tonight then wrapped it in a paper towel and threw it away before washing your hands and heading back out onto the floor. You had to hide your excitement or you’d give yourself away the moment Maggie or Connor saw you. They’d know some form of good news had come your way.
You were pregnant. You and Kelly were going to be parents. You couldn’t wait to tell him. “Soon to be Severide” you turned at the sound of Connor’s voice, a grin slipping onto your face “Hey Con” he smiled “You’re with me today, I got a couple pediatric surgeries so who better than my favorite peds nurse”
“Such a suck up” you laughed and he grinned “Gotta make sure no one knocks me out of place as your best friend” you shook your head “Never” and fell in step with him as he handed you the tablet that had the first patient’s chart pulled up.
Tumblr media
‘So, big day’s getting here quick man” Matt told Kelly, sitting down next to him in the bays. Kelly nodded “Couple weeks, I can’t wait” Matt laughed “I never thought I’d see the day that you of all people would be downright excited to get married”
A broad grin slipped onto Kelly’s face as he shrugged “I guess it really does just come down to finding the right person. I couldn’t imagine my life without her now Matt” “I’m happy for you both and I’m honored I get to stand up there with you” Matt told him, patting his knee.
For it to still be early in the day the firehouse had been fairly busy so they were enjoying a little bit of downtime while lunch was getting cooked. “Where’s Gabby?” Kelly asked and Matt waved towards the door “Her and Sylvie are in there watching Cruz cook”
He nodded, pulling his phone out to send you a text. Just checkin in. I love you a few seconds later the bubbles that you were replying popped up then the reply came through I love you too
He smiled and Matt laughed “You’re adorable Kelly, really” and he threw his hat at Matt “Man, shut up” Matt grabbed the hat and tossed it back “I’m just teasing. It’s good to see. It is”

Kelly was running drills with squad when Boden walked to the door leading out into the bays. “Kelly” he looked up and the moment he spotted his chief he felt his stomach drop. Something was wrong. He didn’t know what. He didn’t know how bad, but he knew something was wrong.
“What is it?” he asked and Boden looked like he was bracing himself “There’s an emergency at med, there’s been a lockdown” he didn’t hear anything else Boden said because he was already running to his mustang.

You stood next to the bed in the hybrid OR, staring down the man that was threatening both you and Connor. He had brought his son in with a ruptured appendix but from what Connor could guess, the appendix had ruptured the day before. You didn’t even know how the hell the kid was still alive to this point.  “Save him” he ordered and Connor nodded “I’ll do everything I can but you need to surrender to the police” the man currently had a gun in his hand.
He shook his head and raised the gun towards you “Save my son or I kill your nurse” you swallowed hard, your thoughts immediately going to the baby  “Please, I just found out I’m pregnant this morning. I haven’t even told my fiance” “What?” Connor asked, the look in his eyes had gone from worried to downright terror now that he knew it wasn’t just your life at risk but your baby’s too.
“Then he better do his job” the man spoke. Connor nodded “I will, let her go. Hold the gun on me. Something besides having the gun on a pregnant woman” “Connor you can’t operate alone” you reminded him, swallowing hard from where you stood across the table. You slowly met Connor’s eyes “Just concentrate. I’m ok”

Kelly threw his car into park and ran towards the entrance of the ED despite the fact that there was police tape everywhere. “Severide!” he heard several voices calling his name. It was both Halsteads and Voight. “She’s in there” he barely got the words out. Voight nodded “We’re getting tapped into the security cams to get some sort of idea what we’re dealing with so we can form a plan. Come on”
He fell in with the older man and followed him. He walked over to where Burgess had a laptop set up on the hood of her suv. The screen went black then the footage of the ED, namely the hybrid OR came onto the screen. His heart stopped when he saw a man point a gun at you. His heart crumbled when your next words were  “Please, I just found out I’m pregnant this morning. I haven’t even told my fiance” he felt his knees go out from under him and he would have hit the concrete had Jay and Will not lurched forward and caught him.
“She’s pregnant?” he whispered more to himself than anyone. Voight nodded to Jay “We’re taking control of this scene, fuck SWAT. We have our people at risk”  “I’ll get ready to breach” he nodded then looked at Kelly “We’re gonna do everything we can to get her out safe Kelly” “Please Hank” he pleaded, eyes glued to the screen.
_____________________
You handed Connor another tool, feeling your stomach drop with every bloody gauze. There was no saving this kid. The appendix rupturing was bad enough then he’d sat for over twenty four hours? His blood had gone septic. At this point Connor was just trying to keep his heart beating long enough in hopes that whatever cops were outside could figure this out.
You knew this, you just hoped his father just didn’t figure it out. “His B.P. is dropping” Connor spoke low to you and you nodded. You didn’t have what you needed to keep it up in the OR. If he flatlined….You were fucked.
He was purposely staying between you and Connor too. There was no way out of this without the cops getting in before this kid flatlined and unless they made it within the next two minutes. You looked up into Connor’s eyes, feeling tears forming in yours and whispered “If something happens look out for Kelly, promise me” “Nothing is going to..” you cut him off “PROMISE ME” he nodded, tears in his eyes “I promise”
The man was getting twitchy, he was either due for another hit or catching on. You could feel your hands start to shake slightly. You were engaged to the love of your life, pregnant with his baby and now facing being killed.
“Why isn’t his blood pressure coming up?” he asked and Connor didn’t look up “That’s normal” you nodded, “It is” he kept fidgeting, moving to shove the gun into your side “It better be because the little pregnant nurse probably wants to make it home to her fiance”
You stiffened and Connor glared at him “Come shove that thing in my side. I’m the surgeon, not her” “Yeah but she’s the one with a kid. She’s the one who deserves to die if my son does” you felt tears slip down your face.
___________________
Kelly watched the laptop, frozen to the spot. He knew Voight’s team was moving in. Connor was doing everything he could to keep this son of a bitch’s attention off of you but he could see just how fucking scared you were. He could see your lips moving and knew you were whispering something to Connor.
The next few moments seemed like they happened too slow and too fast all at the same time. He could see Jay come into view just in the corner of the screen. The man moved to look out of the OR, the kid flatlined and he saw the barrel of the man’s gun flash right before you hit the ground.
He turned and ran into the ED, shoving only god knows how many people out of the way. He ran past the body of the man and hit his knees at your side. “Baby?” he whispered and you rolled your head to the side to look at him, eyes full of pained tears as Connor snatched stuff down to hold pressure and screamed for help “I’m sorry Kelly” “It’s ok love, just stay awake” he tried but your eyes fluttered shut, the blood seeping through Connor’s hands as the medical team flooded into the room. They got you onto a gurney and wheeled you towards the elevator “We need to get her to an OR now and get ASHER!”
He heard Connor giving orders but he couldn’t move. The love of his life and his baby. Was he going to lose you both?

Welcome Back
September 8, 2012
“Yo Severide, how soon till you take Darden off my hands?”
“Andy makes squad the day after I’m no longer in charge.”

“Severide, do we have a vent? Darden wait.”
“We’re good.”
“Casey, there is no vent.”
“Darden!”
Nobody ever wants to have to call and give the news that someone that they know, their family, a friend, co worker, simple acquaintance, anybody, is dead. It’s the worst part about being a firefighter.
Having to go to a person’s family, tell them that, regardless of what you tried to do, regardless of how things were done, you couldn’t save them. It was even harder when it was one of your own. Someone you’d known for years. Since kindergarten.
Telling Andy Darden’s wife that her husband died was probably the worst thing to have been done by anybody at 51. And honestly, Severide didn’t envy Casey for being the one that had to do it, he already knew who he had to call and tell.
The other person that he’d known for years, granted they hadn’t talked in ages, but she still deserved to know. Charlotte Summers. “ Charlie, it’s Kelly, Severide. Can you call me back when you get this? It’s really important. ”
Currently, she was in New York, doing some promotional crap for her boss to get more people to come to their company, yadda, yadda. In full honesty, she didn’t think it would do much for them but she was basically getting paid to party in New York City, a much needed break, so she wasn’t going to complain you know?
But the second she got that voicemail, it made her stomach churn. Kelly Severide and her hadn’t talked in at least 7 years. So what could have been so important that he was calling her this late on a Saturday night?
“Hey, Laura, I have to make a call but I’ll be right back okay?” Charlie gave a warm smile to the woman she had been talking to before heading away and outside. Officially hearing his voice only made the feeling grow, instantly calling him back.
Truthfully she had no idea what to expect. “ Charlie ?” The man’s voice came through the phone lightly, full of… some emotion that she couldn’t pinpoint on her own. It felt weird, off even. Like he didn’t want to have to say anything that he had to.
“Yeah, it’s me. What’s up? Are you alright?” She questioned, noting the slight wave in his breath as he inhaled on the other end of the call. “Kelly?” The silence was just a second too long, sparking the worry in her that wasn’t quelled by his response.
“ Andy’s dead .”
Charlie’s eyes widened, falling back against the brick building. “Oh my god,” She paused to collect herself, “what happened?” Her voice was softer now, the emotion she couldn’t label on his before now reading ‘sadness’ or ‘grief’ in big, bright, red letters.
Even if they weren’t close after high school, her and Andy stayed in touch. She was close with his wife, hell, she was even their oldest child, Griffin’s, godmother.
And their school years were complete chaos. Close friends, had nearly every class together, each other's wingmen/woman. Andy was the only reason that Charlie had gotten the boyfriend she did their sophomore year that she was with up until graduation.
“Work accident. Fire. Look, uh, there’s gonna be a funeral for him, I think probably this upcoming weekend. You should come by. I’m sure Heather would like seeing you.” Tears pricked at her eyes before she shook her head.
Before any could spill she dabbed under her eyes, sniffling, “I uh, I don’t think I’ll be back in Chicago by then but if I am, yeah, I’ll definitely stop by.” She forced a tight smile to her face, mainly just for show for herself more than anything.
Wasn’t like anybody was around or the person on the other end of the phone could see her. “Alright, I’ll send you the information either way.” There was a pause, neither of them really knowing if now was the time to try and catch up or if they should wait, see each other in person for the first time in ages.
“I um, I have to get back inside. But thank you for calling me Kelly, honestly.” Charlie muttered, her hand supporting the arm holding her cellphone.
There was a faint shuffle from the other end, “Yeah of course. I figured you should know.” Kelly had leaned back in his chair, fighting off the tears in his own eyes.
Because who would want to pass this information along? Not him. Not anybody. But he had to. Andy Darden was gone and there was no way around it.

October 10, 2012
“Mama, mamaaaa, wake up,” A small voice poked its way through the sleeping girl’s ears, her face pressed to her pillow as she laid on her stomach. “Mamaa,” slightly louder and this time paired with an elbow to the ribs as the child jumped on her.
Charlie groaned faintly, twisting and grabbing onto her tightly with her tattoo covered arms, “Jasmineee,” She mimicked her childish whine, pressing a plethora of quick kisses to the side of her head. “It’s still early, peanut.”
The girl shifted, pulling back to look at the six year old that was grinning ear to ear, “Yeah but, I wanted to get ready early so you could do my hair.” Jasmine pouted, Charlie unable to say no to her.
“Alright, alright. Watch out,” She let go of her, letting her get up. Charlie followed suit, pushing her rather messy ginger hair out of her face. Mornings ironically were not her thing.
And considering she was a news reporter who, for at least the first few years of her job, was out there at the crack of dawn, you’d think she’d be used to the early wake up calls.
But nope, last year when Jasmine started school, it felt like she was being ripped out of her bed by the nest that was her hair.
Nonetheless she coped and her daughter was in fact a morning person so Charlie basically just had to learn how to deal with it.
Jasmine dug into her small dresser, looking for clothes that Charlie would of course have to approve of but she was big on letting, or at least attempting to let, her choose her own outfits.
This one time she read somewhere that it helps build independence and confidence so hey, might as well right? “Mama? Can I wear this shirt?” She tightly held onto a white shirt with dark blue stars scattered across it.
“Sure Jas,” Charlie stifled back a yawn as she held her hand out to hold it for her. Once she had it, Jasmine turned right back around to look for pants and then socks and then deciding which pair of shoes to wear.
But the second she was dressed, the smile that was plastered onto the little girl's face made being up that early worth it. “My hair now?” She jumped up and down, grabbing onto Charlie’s arms tightly.
Charlie nodded, lifting her up, pretending to fly her through the bedroom and down the hall to the bathroom. “What hair do you want today, peanut?” She sat her on the sink facing the mirror, grabbing a brush to drag through her blonde hair.
Now, Charlie wasn’t some insane hair stylist, but having sisters growing up definitely helped her get decent braids and such down. “I want two braids.” Jasmine leaned back, having to be adjusted so the girl could actually get to the ends of her hair.
“Regular braids? Or do you want the ones that start up here?” She poked the front of Jasmine’s hair line gently. Regardless of the amount of times she used the terms ‘french braid’ or ‘dutch braid’, they always slipped the child’s mind and she had no idea what the hell you meant when it was said.
Jasmine hummed in thought before pointing to the top of her head. “I want ones that start here.”
“Like pigtails and then braids?” Charlie questioned, grabbing her hair to pull back in fake tails. As soon as she nodded, Charlie started to pull the hair into two actual pigtails. And the second they were tied she looked at Jasmine in the mirror. “You sure this is how you want them?” The few baby hairs sticking out majorly on the kid’s forehead.
She nodded quickly, the non-plaited hair swaying as Charlie chuckled, “Alright, alright. Remember, watch how I do the braid.” Charlie had been attempting to teach the young girl how to do simple braids for going on three months now. Mainly because the first grader was constantly asking her to.
“Can I try?” Jasmine clapped, reaching back for the side that wasn’t twisted together. Charlie nodded faintly, letting her grab the hair as she watched, only directing her if she was doing it wrong.
It came out a bit wonky compared to the other but Charlie grinned widely regardless, “That looks great, you want to keep it like that or do you want me to make it nice and neat like this one?” She flipped each long braid over the girl’s shoulders. They did look good, just very obvious that one of them was done by a six year old and the other by a full grown adult.
“I wanna redo the other one, pretty pleaseeee.”
“Okay, let me undo it.” Charlie undid the braid she had done herself and let Jasmine redo it, taking the time that it took for the younger girl to do it to brush through her own hair and pulling it back into a loose ponytail. “Very nice Jas, soon enough you’re gonna be doing your hair all on your own.”
Charlie wrapped the small elastic around the end of the second braid before lifting the kid off the sink and putting her on the floor. “What’s for breakfast?” She questioned as she walked to the kitchen, opening the fridge.
“We don’t have any milk so cereal is off the table today,” Charlie sighed, mentally noting that she would have to stop at the store at some point during the day. It was still barely even 7 in the morning according to the clock on the back of the stove which made the girl sigh, school didn’t even start til 7:45 and it wasn’t like it was a far drive, ten minutes tops.
Jasmine frowned but sat at the table, “Ummm, can I have a poptart?” The frown twisted into a grin as she remembered the fudge ones that she specifically had picked out from the store just earlier that week.
They were famously her favorite and if she could have them everyday, she would. Charlie was careful not to leave the box on the same level as the girl, knowing she’d have to go out and buy more the next day if she did.
“Sure, you want me to toast them?” The red haired girl asked, getting the package out and opening it. At the nod and excited yes from the small child, Charlie popped them into the toaster before making herself a cup of coffee.
Thankfully for her she was a black coffee drinker and didn’t need milk in it. If she did then she’d be shit out of luck for the morning. “Ma, what am I gonna learn in school this year?” Jasmine questioned, kicking her feet as she spoke.
The slight lisp in her voice was always so adorable to the girl she couldn’t help the slight smile that grew on her face. “Honestly Jasmine, I’m not sure. It’s been a while since I was in first grade,” Charlie put the poptarts on a napkin when they came out, sitting across from the kid. “But I’m sure it’ll all be fun.”
“I hope, we learn about space. I wanna know alls about the stars, and the moons, and the sun, and the… what are they called again?” Jasmine excitedly listed out, pausing slightly.
“The planets?”
“Yeah! The planets. I think Earth is my favorite one.” Her voice soft as she looked around the kitchen. “I really like earth. It has everybody that I love on it.”
There was just something so comforting about how children viewed the world. How they saw the good in everything and everyone, that they had little things that intrigued them. All of it.
Especially Jasmine, she’d been obsessed with space since Charlie read her a little book about it when she was just learning to read. Since then she’d wanted to hear about them all the time.
Charlie had a spot a little north outside of Chicago that she took her to a couple times that had the perfect view of the stars and their constellations. It was gorgeous. Jasmine couldn’t pronounce half of what Charlie had told her but the thought was there and she would eventually be able to recite them back to her.
“Alright, time to head out.” Charlie clapped her hands together, finishing the small cup of tea she was able to make and drink while Jasmine ate. “Grab your sweater.” She directed, the girl running off into her room, grabbing the navy sweater that went with her shirt and her backpack off of her bed.
As soon as she was set, Charlie was bringing her to the car and then eventually up the stairs to the front door of the elementary school. “You go in, be good and if anyone gives you a hard time, what do you do?”
“Tell them I’m happy with myself and ignore them.”
“Exactly. I’ll see you later, peanut.” Charlie kissed the top of her head before letting her walk into the building, letting out a soft sigh.
Her next stop was one she was truthfully putting off for as long as she could possibly manage. Seeing Heather. She was going to see her the day she got back to Chicago. She was, but she chickened out. Not wanting to admit to herself that Andy was gone and that her closest friend was out on a ledge.
But she shoved her fears down, went to the Darden’s and knocked on the door. Her eyebrows shot up when one of the boys opened the door, “Auntie Charlie!” Griffin was quick to hug her, the younger of the two, Ben, appearing in the doorway and shoving himself into the hug just as fast.
“Hey boys, what are you still doing here? Don’t you have school?” She questioned, getting pulled in by the two as she did. Heather’s voice carried through the entryway from the kitchen, making sure they were dressed. “I’d go get changed before she sees,” Charlie hummed, clicking her tongue as she nodded in the direction of their bedrooms.
Both boys darted away, Charlie going towards their mother. “Charlie! I didn’t even hear the door?” She came forward, her arms open for the tight hug the two shared, the taller of the two holding on tightly.
“Griffin opened the door,” There was a pause as she let Heather step back first, her own eyes dragging across the partially messy room. “I’m sorry I didn’t stop by sooner.” Charlie let out a deep breath, her own guilt building up. “I don’t think I could handle it honestly.”
She’d been doing pretty good at managing. Having Jasmine and her own sister across the hall made things easier. They always did. “It’s okay. Missed having you around though. One of the boys at Andy’s firehouse has been helping around here and there.” Heather offered, putting the two lunchboxes on the counter.
Charlie nodded, stuffing her hands into her jacket pockets, “Yeah Kelly-”
“Not Kelly.” Heather cut her off nearly instantly, the red head looking over at her quickly. Heather sighed, running a hand through her hair. “It was his fault, you know? From what Matt said, he was supposed to vent the fire. I don’t even know what that means really but… If he’d done it, Andy…”
The other girl stepped forward, hugging her again tightly. “I don’t think we should put the blame on anyone. Not fully. We know their job is dangerous.” Charlie spoke softly, Heather grabbing onto the back of her jacket just as tight.
Slowly she nodded, sniffling as she stepped back, “Yeah. Yeah, you’re right.” She tried to sound convincing. Like she didn’t still hold anger and hatred for the man. It wasn’t exactly a success but Charlie decided to just drop it, instead turning as she heard the rumbling of the boys’ footsteps.
“There they are, all dressed and ready.” She grinned, “If you want I can bring them in. I gotta head out of here anyway. Give you a chance to breathe. I’m sure it’s been a long month.” Charlie grabbed Ben up into a tight hug before holding him on her hip as she spoke.
His eyes practically lit up, “Can we mom please, please, please?” The two gave pretty good puppy dog eyes, getting a nod in response to their begging. “Yes!” Ben was put on the floor as he smiled, grabbing his lunchbox from the spot on the counter.
Heather gave a warm smile to the girl, “Alright, first one to the car gets to pick the music, go.” Charlie sent them out, returning the smile. “If you need anything Heather, you know you can call me. I’d drop everything in a heartbeat.” She spoke before patting the counter, following the boys out.
Griffin had his hand to the side of Ben’s face, holding him out of the car as Charlie started down the driveway, her eyebrows raising. “Hey, let your brother in the car or he gets to pick regardless.” She spoke pointedly, the same voice she gave Jasmine when she was getting into something.
Sheepishly he listened, letting the younger boy into the car. Of course the first thing Charlie did was make sure they were buckled, turning to look at them, “Alright, Griffin, music choice?” She spoke, handing the CD holder she kept in her car to him.
He took a couple minutes to choose before pointing out a Queen disk. “Your parents raised you well,” Charlie smiled, “Help your brother buckle.” He added, noting how Ben was struggling to click the seatbelt into place.
As soon as things were all situated, Charlie headed towards their school. “So, catch me up boys.” She checked on them in the mirror, their faces still low as she did. Honestly it was something she couldn’t even imagine.
Having to just carry on with life after losing someone, especially someone as important to you as a parent? To something that also could have easily been avoided.
“I lost my last baby tooth. Mom said it’s good luck.” Griffin answered, his eyes forward as he watched Charlie’s driving.
“It is. End of a cycle, your new teeth are filling in and you’re growing. She give it to the tooth fairy?”
“Yeah! I got $20! Said it was because it was the last one.” He continued, some excitement for the little things shining through which made Charlie smile. It was nice to see, knowing that even when things sucked there was still a thing or two that brought some level of happiness to the kid’s face.
Charlie glanced back at him, “You got Jas beat, she still has a few.” She commented, Ben offering up a comment that he had way more than that left that simply made her chuckle. Even with their closeness in age the fact all three of the kids were sometimes ahead of one another felt wild.
“Alright boys. Have fun, I won’t see you later so be good for your mom.” She added. “Love you.”
“Love you too Aunt Charlie,” Both boys echoed out as they ran out of the car and up the steps to their school.
She always found it heartwarming. Kids being resilient. Something she’d seen time and time again when it came to both her job and dealing with Jasmine. Now getting to see it in Ben and Griffin after all of what happened? All she wanted to do was squeeze them really.
Nobody deserves to lose a parent at that age. At any age really but before the double digits? It couldn’t be any worse.
Another thing Charlie had put off since she returned back to Chicago was to visit Kelly. Or the firehouse in general. The place Andy considered his second home. And she’d been there a few times before but never enough to socialize or truly take a look around.
It was rather sad that the first time she’d actually take a walk through the halls wouldn’t be with Kelly on one side and Andy on the other. Instead it was alone and she was having a hard time finding anybody.
“Can I help you?” A female voice made her jump, doing a full 180 as she came face to face with a tan skinned girl with hair to match. And she had to admit, the simple ponytail was hot even if it was just that, simple.
Charlie nodded, “Uh, yeah actually. Looking for Kelly. Severide.” She added just in case for whatever reason the other girl wearing the CFD logo didn’t know who he was. “I think I came in through the wrong door to find anybody”
One thing she did when she was nervous. Joke. She had to or she’d pass away or something. Who knows honestly. “Ah, gotcha.” The girl looked like she had connected the dots or something. “You should’ve come up the apparatus if you wanted him.”
She gestured for her to follow and within a minute she was met with the squad table and the four guys that sat at it. “Charlie.” The voice from over the phone stood and hugged her. Tighter than he’d hugged anyone in awhile.
And Charlie hugged him back just the same. Neither had she.
“Hey Kelly.” She squeezed him, a firm attempt to hold herself together. Not that she’d really be able to. Tears already pricked at her eyes and the longer they held onto one another the more she wanted to cry.
It was hard not to but she managed, wiping her eyes as she pulled away, looking him over before the place. “You look great.” She sniffled out, the other members of the firehouse having filed away, giving the two a moment on their own.
“So do you.” He replied, it felt wrong to catch up. Like they’d be acting that there wasn’t a reason they were there. Why she finally came by the firehouse after years of avoiding it. Nothing against the boys but it wasn’t an easy place to visit. Especially not with a kid.
Charlie shifted on her feet, the anticipation of seeing him wearing off and it now fully sinking in that it was just them. Them. No Andy.
“Why don’t you come inside? I’m sure someone is making some food and I think it would be nice if you actually met some of the guys.” Kelly offered, a hand on her upper back as he guided her through the same doors she’d come out of only a bit before.
She was nervous to say the least. Who knew how many of these people she’d actually end up liking or well, would end up liking her. She was already a sore thumb with the comparison of her bright red hair to most of the others darker hair.
Kelly introduced her to the rest of squad, Tony, Capp and Jose before gesturing to truck like they were a crew of plagued pirates. “Otis, Cruz, Mouch and Herrmann.” He casually introduced, hardly even glancing at the blonde at the end of the table.
It was obvious to anyone that there was some sort of beef there that she simply ignored, smiling tightly and accepting that for now, the short haired blonde man at the end of the table would remain unnamed.
“The girl that brought you outside-”
“No she was looking for-”
The girl in question came out of a separate room with a blonde attached to her hip, obviously gossiping, and from what they were saying, it was about her. She didn’t mind, it didn’t sound negative at all so how was she supposed to be mad?
“Is Gabby Dawson.” Kelly finished his sentence, the girl outstretching her hand awkwardly and immediately rambling into how she wasn’t gossiping or anything. All of which Charlie brushed off.
“I get it. New face and all. But I’m Charlie.”
“Wow Kelly, picked yourself a good one this time.” The blonde that would soon be introduced as Leslie, or Shay as most people called her, spoke up, reaching forward and lightly punching his arm.
Instantly he shook her head. “No, Charlie’s a good friend. She was actually real close with Andy.” He explained, glancing at the others as a dark atmosphere seemed to fill the room.
“Why haven’t you been around before?” A voice came from behind, Charlie turning and facing the same unnamed blonde man as before. This time he was standing and there was just a look on his face that rubbed her the wrong way.
She matched his stance, crossing her arms. “I never got the chance to before now. Unfortunately. But that doesn’t mean I was any less close.” Charlie added, the man nodding just slightly.
“Severide, ever get around to telling you what happened?”
“Seriously Casey, now is not the time.” Kelly scoffed out, Charlie immediately realizing there was some other tension in the room that she couldn’t even begin to understand. That much was said just by the tone of both of their voices.
Charlie turned back to Kelly, nodding out of the common room they were all in. “What was all that?” Concern written on her face as she saw the unusual amount of anger and annoyance on his face by the maybe three sentences that Casey had said.
“He blames me for Andy.” He said tightly, her eyes pulling together. The mere thought alone made her scoff. Seriously? That’s what the issue was? Blame.
“You said it was an accident.”
“It was.” He explained, slightly dipping into the full story. Needing a vent, not getting one, all the firefighter jargon that Charlie just about understood as it was. Silently she listened, nodding.
Her opinion of it all didn’t matter. What went down, went down, “That would explain why Heather refused to even let me mention you this morning.” She sighed, hands placed firmly on her hips as she put two and two together.
Kelly’s eyebrows furrowed tightly, looking at her, “You saw Heather this morning?” Charlie nodded faintly in response. “How is she? She also blames me. Probably because of Casey if we’re being honest here.” He grumbled.
Not much got to him but stuff like this certainly did.
Charlie sighed heavily, “Look, I’m not picking sides and blaming anyone. You’ve always told me how dangerous firefighting was. I have no doubt this was just that. An accident.”
From the look on his face, he needed to hear that. Being blamed over and over could only get so far even if he knew the opposite of those words were true. He didn’t blame himself. Refused to even.
“You guys do a lot here.” Charlie changed the subject, glancing around slightly. From the group of municipal equipment out on the apparatus floor to the crew of people inside, their gear lined up just outside the trucks. It was organized.
“I wish people knew how hard you all worked. How hard Andy worked.” She continued, walking over and looking down at the board in front of the big window. As if something clicked, she looked up.
Kelly raised his eyebrows at her as she pulled her phone out. “That’s exactly it.” She said, snapping her fingers and turning out the doors and to a spot she could hear the phone properly, leaving Severide confused near the firetrucks.
“Hey, it’s me, Charlie. I have an idea for the 6 o’clock story.”

Tumblr media
For as long as you could remember you have always worked with Kelly Severide at Firehouse 51 and worked on Ambo 61. You loved your job and the people that worked there, one in particular and that would be the man himself but you always kept your feelings a secret. For years Kelly had been trying to make you jealous and get you to notice him and it had worked but you just didn’t let it show. When you both had to do a task and had to be partnered up, he would always volunteer to be your partner and you weren’t complaining in the least bit.
Both of your shifts were just about to start. You had pulled up at the same time as he did and smiled and shook your head. You killed the engine and so did he. He got out at the same time as you did. “Good morning, beautiful.” He said while grabbing his bag and you did the same
“Morning, Kelly.” You replied back and you two began walking into the firehouse.
“When are you going to let me take you on a date?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Never.” You said somewhat meaning it and he frowned.
“Why not?” He asked
“You know why.” You said and he raised an eyebrow and you just shook your head and headed to go and get changed. Leaving a confused Kelly standing there. When you got there Sylvie, Stella, and Gabby were getting dressed as well.
“Good morning.” You said and they smiled.
“Good morning.” They replied at the same time.
“How was your time off?” Gabby asked
“It was wonderful. Got to sleep in and catch up with Jay and Will.” You said and they smiled and nodded. Jay and Will were your childhood friends and you all considered each other family. “How was your guy's time off?” You asked.
“It was good. Did some shopping and laid around.” Sylvie said and you smiled.
“Antonio and I had some brother and sister bonding but other than that nothing.” Gabby said just then the bell rang and everyone was rushing out to their respective vehicles and everyone was off.
When you got to the scene it was 4 car pileups so it was all hands-on deck. Gabby, Sylvie, and you worked in unison making sure the people that needed help were directed over to somewhere and the others that didn’t need as much help were grouped together. “Someone! Please help me! My child is stuck!” A woman shouted and that made you shoot up and head over to the black sedan you looked in and saw the child was unconscious. You turned to the mother.
“Ma’am just be calm and I’m gonna get some help opening this door.” You said seeing as the door where the kid was crushed in and from what you could see the car had hit it and then another car crashed into it and pushed it away. You turned and looked to see who was free and spotted Kelly “Severide! I need you!” You yelled out and that got his attention and he was quick to come rushing to your side along with some other members. “Door is stuck and won’t open. I need to get the boy as soon as possible.” You said and he nodded.
“You got it.” He said and he turned to give orders in the meantime you were in the front seat trying to assess the injuries as best as you could. You turned to the woman.
“What is your son’s name?” You asked
“Jake his name is Jake.” She said frantically and you smiled and nodded.
“Jake, can you hear me?” You asked and he groaned a little bit and that made you smile and he slowly opened his eyes “That’s it. My name is Y/N and I’m here to help you.” You said and he just stared at you “Kelly?” You asked.
“Just 5 more seconds.” He said and you nodded.
“Just hold on, Jake.” You said and then you heard the door coming off and then you were getting out and going to the little boy. “Does anything hurt?” You asked.
“My arm and chest.” He said quietly and you smiled and nodded. “Where is my mom?” He asked
“I’m right here baby. This nice paramedic is going to help you.” She said and you smiled.
“Can I feel around?” You asked him and he nodded and you did so. He whimpered when you pressed his arm and around his chest. “Ok, it looks like you may have broken your arm and the seatbelt sure did its job. We’re gonna get you out of here and looked at.” You said while placing a c-collar on him.
“I’m right behind you.” Kelly said and cut the boy loose and you were moving him onto the gurney supplied by another firehouse. You rattled off the boy's condition and Kelly was just looking at you in amazement. He had liked no loved you from the moment you two had met and he wanted to be with you but he was still in his running around and sleeping around stage but after a few months he finally realized he loved you and slowed down. Now when he does it, it was to make you jealous or grab your attention but you knew him and his history of women. So, when he tried to flirt with you, you just brushed him off. He has made it his mission to get you to notice him and go out with him and maybe that would lead to some other things. It wasn't a secret that he liked you since he flirted with you nonstop, you loved it but didn't let it get you because he is a womanizer and you didn't want to be added to the list. You didn't want to be the next hook up and then he was onto the next.
The pileup was cleared and cleaned up and everyone was headed back to the station. You had dropped off the patients that you needed to. It only took 4 hours to get everything sorted out. When the trucks and ambulance was back you took the liberty of cleaning the ambulance and restocking, you claimed that it calmed you down after a call and it was satisfying. As you were doing this and lost in your own world you didn't hear Kelly walk up. “You're so sexy when you're working you know that?” He asked and you rolled your eyes.
“Sure I am.” You said, glancing at him.
“You are.” He said and you rolled your eyes and turned back to what you were doing and a smile came across your face.
“Ok, Kel.” You said using the nickname that you're only allowed to use for him. He was about to say something else but Casey called out his name and Kelly looked disappointed that he would have to leave you.
“I'll talk to you later, beautiful.” He said and turned to walk away and you turned and watched him.
You really didn't get a chance to talk to him again because either Squad 3 was called out or Ambulance 61 was. It seemed like Ambulance 61 was being called out a lot, as soon as you got back from a call you were being called to another place.
You finally got a break just 3 hrs before your shift ended and you were exhausted. As soon as you pulled into the bay and had gotten out, he was meeting you. “About time you're back. I was having a Y/N withdrawal.” He said and you tried to blush with an eye roll.
“I'm sure you were thinking about all the other women that are falling at your feet.” You said and he shook his head.
“No, you're the only one I want.” He said
“Sure, Kelly. Are you coming to Molly's after shift?” You asked changing the subject and he nodded.
“Only if you are.” He said and tucked a piece of hair behind your ear.
“Yea, I'm going. I need a few drinks after this hellacious day.” You said and he chuckled.
The rest of the shift you were cleaning, filling out paperwork, and just overall hoping another call doesn't come your way. You don't look up until Kelly is standing right in front of you. “Ready to go?” He asked and you looked at your watch and nodded.
“Yes please. I'll be happy to get out of here for a few days.” You said
“You and me both.” He said and after you got changed and headed to your car and him to his truck you two talked. Before you knew it you were following him to Molly's and parking beside him. Most of everyone else was there with you guys so it was gonna be a fun night.
You walked in and immediately saw Intelligence and some of Med there. Then you spotted Will and Jay and walked over to them. “Hey.” You said and hugged them and they hugged you back. “Did we miss anything?” You asked and they shook their heads.
“Nope it's just been boring but now that you and 51 one is it's gonna get interesting.” Will said with a smile and you rolled your eyes and pushed him.
“Oh hush.” You said and then gave the bartender your order and it was quick to arrive. The night was spent with you mingling about and gossiping with the girls from Intelligence, Med, and 51. You scanned the bar and found Kelly talking with some blonde headed woman who only wanted one thing and seemed to enjoy it and you rolled your eyes and turned back to your conversation. You loved him, you really did but you couldn't be with him especially since he loves to hook up with random women.
“What's with the face?” Hailey asked and you raised an eyebrow.
“What look?” You asked and then scanned again and still found Kelly in the same position.
“That look.” Kim said they looked where you were looking and suddenly understood.
“It’s nothing guys really.” You said not taking your eyes away from Kelly.
“You have nothing to worry about. He is absolutely in love with you. You really have tamed the flame of Kelly Severide.” Gabby said and you scoffed and looked at her.
“Yeah right. I’m gonna get another beer. Anybody want anything?” You asked and they shook their heads and you took it as your que to get up and walk to the bar. When you got to the bar you had to wait for a few minutes and that gave enough time for a guy to come over and sit down next to you.
“Now what is a beautiful girl doing up here all alone?” He said and you turned to look at him. He was a doctor, law enforcement, firefighter, or paramedic. He had dark brown hair and honey-colored eyes. You smiled at him.
“Just trying to get a drink. I’m here with some work friends.” You said and he smiled and nodded.
“What is it that you do?” He asked and you smiled and you thought that it would be nice to talk to someone outside of the firehouse.
“I’m a paramedic for Firehouse 51.” You said and he smiled.
“I’m Chad.” He said and then waved down the bartender.
“I’m Y/N.” You replied and then the bartender arrived.
“What can I get the two of you?” She asked
“I need another Coors Light and whatever this beautiful woman is having. Put it on my tab.” He said smoothly. You told her what you were drinking and she got the drinks for you and then you decided to stay and talk to this handsome stranger that goes by the name of Chad.
“You should come down to the station sometime. I’m off tomorrow and the next two days and then working again.” You said and he nodded.
“I will most certainly do that.” He said and the night just continued on. That night Chad made you forget about Kelly and you had a great time and you even went home with him.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Kelly wasn't having a good time. He was just coming over to get a drink and this random girl walked over and started chatting with him. Every now and then he would do a sweep over the bar and find you laughing and having a good time with Kim, Hailey, Gabby, Stella, and Sylvie and when he saw you laughing, he smiled. He turned back to his conversation smiling thinking of you, when he looked up, he caught your eye and his smile faded as he saw the look on his face. He was only interested in you and only you.
The next time he looked up you saw you at the bar and he was about to walk over to you but a guy beat him to it. He watched you interact with this guy and actually smile. The girl that came up to him was long forgotten and when he stopped paying attention to her, she huffed and stormed off. Now he had to stand there and watch you hit it off with Chad.
Kelly was jealous and he hated that feeling. It should be him over there with you. You should be with him. His mood had soured for the rest of the night and he turned down any other women that came up to him. He wanted you and only you. You were perfect for him. What tipped him off was when you left with Chad and he didn't see you for the rest of the night.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Over the course of the days, you were off you enjoyed some alone time and some time with Chad. It turns out he worked as a school teacher and he loved his job. Of course, you two had some fun together but it was never really serious because you loved Kelly. Over the days you were off you had lunch with Chad and it was great and you loved spending time with him. What you didn’t know was that Kelly just happened to be at the same little restaurant and noticed you and Chad and grew increasingly jealous because he wanted that to be him with you and not Chad. He just sighed and reminded himself that you both would be back at work tomorrow and then he would have you all to himself and nobody could steal you away from him.
You sighed as you pulled into the parking lot of the station and not a second later Kelly’s truck was pulling up next to you. You smiled and then got out as he did. “Good morning.” You said and he turned to look at you and gave you a nod and then walked off into the station an eyebrow raised but you shook it off and got your mind into work mode. You greeted the other crew as they were leaving and then greeted some of the others on shift with you. Not a word from Kelly and he hadn’t been seen and that worried you but you let it slide and started your shift. Right as soon as you got your outfit changed and stuff put away the bell rang for Ambulance 61 and that had you running and joining Gabby and Sylvie and you were off to the call. You looked out the window and saw Kelly looking at you but you couldn’t read his face but there was a slight frown. The call was easy and it didn’t take too long and you were back at the station in time. Gabby parked and everyone got out and you went into the kitchen to grab something to drink and you ran into Kelly. “Hey.” You said and he turned around and gave you a smile.
“Hey.” He said but it was short.
“Are you ok?” You asked and he nodded and then continued on what he was doing and you sighed. “Did I do something?” You asked and he jerked and looked at you.
“No, absolutely not. You did nothing wrong.” He said and that made you confused.
“Then why didn’t you talk to me this morning or why did I not see you until we got that call?” You asked curious.
“Trust me it is not you. It really is me. Y/N you have to understand that-” He began when Herrmann called your name and appeared into the kitchen.
“There is a Chad here for you.” He said and you nodded and gave Kelly one last look and headed to greet him. Kelly stood there for a few minutes with Herrmann.
“You love her, don’t you?” He asked and Kelly nodded.
“I do.” Kelly replied
“Then do something about it.” Herrmann said and Kelly nodded and watched his coworker walk away. That gave him time to think. He did love you and he wanted to be with you and only you. He had made up his mind and walked out of the kitchen and to where you were. He saw you laughing with Chad and that made his jealous rear its head and take control of his body. Kelly walked up with you with so much confidence, he gently spun you around and smashed his lips into yours in a hot passionate kiss that you were quick to return leaving Chad there stunned. After a minute or so a throat was being cleared and you broke apart and looked over at Chad.
“I think it is best if you go.” Kelly said and he nodded.
“I’ll see you around Y/N.” He awkwardly said.
“No, you won’t.” Kelly said and then started to drag you to his quarters. When you got there you were about to say something but he was quick to push you against the door and kiss you again this kiss was filled with want and need. “Been wanting to do that for a while now.” He said and then returned to kissing you.
“Kelly.” You moaned out and turned your head to the side giving him more access to your neck and that sweet spot. He smirked into your neck and bit that one spot that had your knee going weak. You could feel how hard he was through his pants and that made you moan and clench around nothing, you needed and wanted him at the same time. “Kel, I need you.” You moaned out and he smirked.
“You got me baby.” He said and you shook your head again.
“No, I need you to be inside of me.” You said and he grunted.
“Jump.” He said and you did and then he was turning around and walking you over to his bed, where he gently laid you down. He was quick to get your clothes off and then his was disappearing and joining yours in the pile it had created. “You are so beautiful, baby.” He said while you laid there naked in front of him and you blushed but you couldn’t help but look him up and down and then stopped at his cock and you practically started to drool. “Like what you see?” He asked and you nodded.
“Love what I see.” You said and he smirked and then was crawling up until he was seated between your legs.
“Already so wet for me and all I did was kiss you.” He said and you chuckled.
“I can’t help that you turn me on.” You said and he smirked and then parted your legs slightly and started to kiss the inside of your thighs until he got to where you needed him the most.
“Kel.” You moaned out when he licked a broad stripe up your slick folds and you swear you could’ve came right then and there. He continued his attack on your pussy and he wasn’t letting you up. Your hands went to his hair and grabbed on it and pulled his face further into you. One hand went to your hips to keep them still and down when you tried to buck up into his face and the other hand went to your pussy and rubbed your clit and then two fingers were being pushed into you and he started to slowly thrust his fingers in and out of you. Your head was thrown back in a mouth open in a slight moan, you knew you had to be quiet but with him pleasing you this good you couldn’t help but voice it. All too soon he stopped and pulled out of you licking his fingers and then took them out, he crawled up until you felt his cock nudging your opening.
“Damn you taste good. As much as I want you to cum on my face, I want you to come on my cock.” He said and again you clenched around nothing. He reached down and pumped himself and then he was slowly easing into you and attaching his lips to yours to swallow that moan that was coming out of you. You bottomed out and your hands gripped his sheets as he started his slow thrusting, he stretched you out in all the right places and filled you like nobody ever has. He was bigger than your previous lovers and you were loving it. You always dreamed about how it would be to have sex with him and you could finally say that your dreams were coming true and it was glorious. He finally released your lips when air was needed. You let out a loud moan and his hand was quick to come up and cover your mouth. “Shhhh. As much as I want to hear you, you have to be quiet.” He said and you nodded and he uncovered your mouth.
“Faster, Kel.” You said and he obliged and started to go faster. You wrapped your legs around him and locked your ankles. His arms came to rest beside your head and caged you in. You were just glad that the blinds were shut.
“Oh, baby. You’re so tight.” He moaned out and he thrusted in and hit your g-spot that had you moaning practically loud and he was quick to cover your mouth. “I told you to be quiet.” He said and made a sharp thrust into you.
“I can’t help it. You fill me up and stretch me in all the right places.” You said when he took his hand away from your mouth and that made him smirk. “I’m close.” You said and he nodded.
“I am too. Cum with me.” He said and sped up and your nails dug into his shoulder blades and he hissed. His head dropped down to your breasts and he started to give them attention and when he slightly bit your right nipple that had you cumming.
“I’m cumming, Kel.” You said and then he did it to your left and that is what you did you in. You clenched around him and that rubber band snapped and your nails went down his back leaving scratches in their wake and that was it for him.
“I am too.” He said and then his thrusts got sloppy and then he stilled inside of you. His head was thrown back and a quiet moan came out of him. After a few minutes you both came down from your high and he was collapsing next you and you turned to where you were facing him. “That was hot.” He said and you nodded. “I mean it when I said that you’re the only one for me and that you’re it for me.” He said and you smiled and looked up at him.
“I believe you. I guess Gabby was right when she said I tamed the flame.” You said and he chuckled.
“You certainly did. When I saw you talking with Chad at Molly’s I was jealous. I wanted that to be me with you.” He said
“What about that woman that you were with? You were smiling a lot.” You asked and shook his head and kissed your forehead and looked down at you.
“She came up and talked to me and I was so desperately trying to get away from her. I was smiling because I saw you laughing and having a good time with the girls.” He said and you smiled.
“I love you, Kels.” You said
“I love you too.” He said and you laid there in each other arms enjoying being there with each other. That moment didn’t last long because the bells were ringing signaling for Squad, Truck 81, and Ambulance 61 for a call. You both groaned but were quick to get dressed as you were coming out of his quarters, you ran into Gabby, Sylvie, Stella, and a few others and they just looked at you and smirked. You hurried off and with your head hung but a smirk on your face and Kelly’s. As you were about to get into the ambulance, he caught you and kissed you and you returned it but you were being pulled into the ambulance and everyone was off to the call.
“So, you and Kelly finally admitted your feelings and got together huh?” Gabby asked and you blushed.
“Oh hush.” You said and they laughed but you smiled.
You and Kelly loved each other that was for sure and now you both could be with each other. Neither of you were going to let one another go and you were ok with that. You finally tamed the flame and that flame was yours and only yours.

Jay Halstead x Sylvie Brett
Requested by @windshield91
TW: stillborn home birth mentioned (Sylvie is a paramedic) and shot child mentioned (Jay is a cop)
After Leslie Shay’s death, Sylvie Brett was the new paramedic on Ambulance 61. She was eventually invited out by the crew at Station 51 and spent time at Molly’s in her free time. She had friends that ran the place, of course, seeing as the bar itself was run by Dawson, Hermann and Otis.
She was bringing shots back to her table when she nearly ran into Jay, very carefully keeping the shots steady as she maneuvered around him.
“Shit, I’m sorry, did you spill any?”
“No,” Sylvie said with a smile, setting them on the table for her friends, then turning back to Jay. “Steady hands.”
Jay smiled back, nodding. “If you’re hanging out with these guys then you must either be a firefighter or a paramedic.” He punched Kelly Severide’s shoulder.
Sylvie laughed. “Paramedic. Sylvie Brett, nice to meet you.” She stuck out a hand.
“Jay Halstead, cop,” he replied, shaking her hand, holding a beer with his free one.
From then on, Jay purposefully would run into her at Molly’s. She slowly integrated with him and some of the other mutual friends they had. She liked being around him too, exchanging crazy stories of things they’d seen that week. Although Jay wasn’t a paramedic, word was he dated Gabby for a while, so Sylvie talked to him like he knew more than the average person. In turn, he reciprocated that and talked to her almost like a fellow cop. The two seemed to understand one another despite being from different worlds.
One night, Jay sat beside her at the bar. She was drinking alone. Molly’s was pretty empty. He gently touched her shoulder. “Hey, no friends tonight?”
Sylvie took in a breath, as if he’d startled her. “Oh, hey, no, I’m alone.”
Jay nodded. “Me too.” He swigged his beer, looking at her. “What’s going on? You okay?”
She shrugged. “I could ask you the same thing. I don’t see any of your colleagues around.”
Jay laughed dryly, taking another swig of his beer. “Lost a kid today. Shot in the crossfire.”
Sylvie frowned. “Was it your bullet?”
“No, it was the bad guys.” Jay shrugged and sighed. “Just brought up some memories I thought I buried.”
Sylvie nodded. “I lost an infant to a botched home birth today.” She shook her head, tears brimming her eyes. “Gosh, I… I shouldn’t care so much, but I just couldn’t get the little guy to breathe. He wouldn’t breathe.” As the tears spilled over, she put her face into her hands.
Jay frowned and gently rubbed her back. “Hey, it’s not your fault. It wasn’t meant to be. Sometimes… Things don’t work out for us.” He shrugged.
She shook her head, leaning into his touch. “I know, I know but… it doesn’t make it hurt any less.”
“I hear you.” Jay pulled her closer, embracing her in his arms as she wept softly into his chest. Tears even came to his eyes as he pushed his nose into her hair, closing his eyes and kissing the top of her head. “I’ve got you.”
After a few moments, the two pulled apart. Jay reached forward and cupped her face, wiping away her tears. She did the same for him. The mutual comfort as they gazed into each other’s eyes was unlike anything they’d felt before.
Jay smiled slightly at her, which she reciprocated. “Sorry to be such a downer,” she said softly.
“You’re not,” he replied. “I was already sad. You made it better.”
“You too.” She looked over his face. “I never realized you had so many freckles.”
Jay blushed softly, laughing and shaking his head. “No? I guess not a lot of people do.”
Sylvie laughed softly, taking Jay’s hand. “Let’s not sit at the bar and cry into our drinks.”
“Want dinner? I know a really good place down the block.” Jay stood and held her hand as they walked toward the door.
“Dinner sounds great.”

Familiar location | Leslie Shay
Tumblr media
Pairing: Leslie Shay x Reader Summary: Where 51 gets called to a house fire and Shay recognizes the adres to be yours.
Masterlist | Chicago Fire masterlist | Words: 1.2k
It had been a quiet shift for 51, only a few small calls, so the team was enjoying themselves in the common room just chatting away. Shay was mid-conversation with Dawson when the alarm bells rang for a house fire, the moment the street name was called over the speakers Shay’s eyes widened, “That’s y/n’s place.” She runs to the car, full of worry. Dawson steps in front of her partner, “Let me drive.” Dawson knew that Shay’s feelings for you went deeper than just best friends, though the girl had yet to admit it. She didn’t want Shay to drive to this one.
On the drive Shay tries calling you several times, but she couldn’t get ahold of you. She was worried sick, unable to sit still. As soon as Dawson pulled over the car at the scene, Shay jumped out and ran towards your house, in a panicked manner. The moment she laid her eyes on you, she was finally able to breathe again. There you stood, unharmed, talking to the Chief. She ran the rest of the way towards you and hugged you tight. You hadn’t seen her coming as you had your back towards her, but you knew instantly whose arms were wrapped around you. Shay lets go to check you out, to make sure you actually weren’t injured. “Are you okay?” She says pulling you back into a hug. “Yes, I’m okay.” This time you were able to hug her back, you nestled your head into her shoulder, you were unharmed, but your house being on fire was still a lot to take in.
“What happened?” Shay asks as you’ve calmed down a bit. “I don’t know, I heard an explosion and all of a sudden there were flames everywhere. I ran outside and my neighbors called 911 when they heard the explosion and came to check on me.” Boden speaks up, “When the fire is out, I’ll have Severide check to see if he can find out what happened. What’s important now, is that you made it out unharmed.” He pats your shoulder.
Dawson had checked on your neighbors to see if any of them needed help, when everyone was good she came your way. Giving you a quick hug, “It’s so good to see that you’re okay.” The three of you watch the team fight the fire, Shay’s arm still wrapped around your shoulder, as you lean into her side.
When the fire was dealt with, Severide and the rest of squad 3 went in to check out what started the fire. About 15 minutes later he comes out, “The fire started in the fuse box, my guess is either faulty wiring or outdated wiring. Your insurance should cover everything, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help with that.” You thank Severide, and accept his offer to help you with the insurance claim.
Engine 51 is out next, and Herrmann walks up to you and Boden next, “We have to let everything settle for a bit, but in like 30 minutes we can go in and see what we can salvage for you.” You thank him as well and sit down on the ambulance steps along with Shay. “You can take all the stuff they can salvage to mine and Severides, stay with us until everything is sorted out.” She hands you a bottle of water, “Thanks Les.”
You drive to the firehouse in the back of the ambulance, since their shift was nearing its end. A few of the team offered to join you, Shay and Severide, to see what they could salvage from your house. With a couple of boxes you head to your temporary home.
“You can take my room, and I’ll sleep on the couch.” Severide offered. You shake your head, “That’s really sweet, but I can just take the couch, it’s fine.” Shay watched the conversation with a slight furrow in her brow. “If you want we can just share my room, no need for anyone to sleep on the couch when there’s a king sized bed in mine.” You agree to Shay’s offer and put your stuff down in her room.
At night the two of you lay down in the bed, Shay turns your way “Goodnight y/n.” shared with a peck on your lips. Her eyes widen when she realizes what she had just done. “I am so sorry, I don’t know why I did that.” She’s about to get up to sleep on the couch after all, too embarrassed to stay, and too afraid she’ll do it again if she doesn’t leave. Your shock wears off before she manages to get off of the bed, so you grab her arm and pull her back. Connection your lips again, she kisses you back instantly. Your lips dance together as if they had known each other for years, the kiss was soft, and sweet. It was something the both of you had been craving, it was perfect.
After kissing her for a while longer, you let her know that you’re really tired from today. She pecks your cheek, “Okay, let’s get some rest then.” You fall into her arms, and she holds you close. Despite the events of today, you’re able to fall asleep fast, in the comforting hold of your best friend.
When you wake up, the spot on the bed next to you that was once occupied by Shay, was now empty and cold to the touch. You throw on a hoodie from Shay and leave her bedroom, only to find her pacing around the kitchen island. “Hey, is everything okay?” She stops pacing and locks her eyes on yours, “We need to talk about what happened last night.” You nod in agreement, “Okay, do you want to start?”
“I really enjoyed kissing you, but I’m scared that maybe you felt like you had to because I kissed you out of nowhere.” You’re quick to her side, placing your hands on her cheeks. “I can’t say that I wasn’t taken back by that initial kiss, but I am so glad that you kissed me, because I’ve been wanting to kiss you for so long, Les.” Realization hits, you wanted her the same way as she wanted you.
Her smile grows and she leans in, “So, I can kiss you again?” You nod and she presses her lips on yours only seconds later. You’re too focussed on Shay to hear Severide come walking in. “Well, good morning to you too, lovebirds. Glad you finally admitted your feelings for each other.” His comment earns him a warning glare from Shay, but he just shrugs it off. “So, y/n, I have a copy of the fire report for you. If you want we can contact the insurance company today to start the claim.” He continues like nothing happened. You ask if he can join you to go in the afternoon, which he agrees too.
Back in Shay’s room she asks, “If you don’t have any plans until the afternoon, do you maybe want to get some breakfast together?” You smile at the slight nervous look on her face, “Only if it’s a date.” With that comment her nerves fade quickly, “It’s a date.” And with that the first date of many to come was planned.

Fire 7x15 PD 6x15
Jay and Cruz were prominent in this crossover.
"It's not easy investigating a guy everybody thinks is a saint" - Jay Halstead
Kim and Jay being done by the firefighters' unreasonable behaviors. Their interaction was lovely. They'd have made a good partners.
- CFD Liasion Hermann.
- Kelly's office scene: Grissom expressing his sadness and missing Benny. I miss Benny too and beyond angry with Damon's story.
Tony & Capp: It is lame having them make rookie mistakes to show Severide's annoyance with Cruz's absence. They are experienced firefighters, have been on Squad for a long time, and portrayed as Severide's good friends since S01.
Cruz: His know-it-all attitude always irks me but it was unbearable this PD episode. I wished he was exposed as the one who identified Suggs as the suspect to other firefighters so he understands PD decisions better.
"I think it is the right thing to do" - Boden
Cruz accepted Voight's suggestion after asking for Boden's opinion, yet he kept blowing on Voight, Jay and others for following the lead he gave them.
"But just know that there will be other consequences that you won't see coming. You can count on that" - Leon Cruz
His brother seems to have more insight into these situations than him. And his point was proved during the crossover, but Cruz arrogance never made him accepted that.
"What are you doing here?" - Joe Cruz
Seriously, Why Cruz acting like he is the boss of fire and pd. His attitude toward Atwater and Halstead was terrible and unjustified. It is their job to ask these questions.
"You sure you want to do this she is going to give you a hard time." - Cruz
Jay making a nice gesture with Platt's help for the family. But Cruz acting like all happened was his fault.
I think he felt guilty for Suggs's death and projected that on PD by blaming them for damaging his image despite him being the one that identified Suggs as the suspect.
