You'd posted about Mamdani in the mayoral race before. He participated in a Jewish town hall and basically flat out ignored any connection the DC shooter had to the wider pro-palestine movement. I don't think Mamdani has a chance tbh. A lot of people are trying to make this a Cuomo v Mamdani race (not to the benefit of Democrats, since the Post and Bari Weiss's Free Press are pretty vocal and also emphasizing his "socialism") and I don't think that works for him, particularly with how things are going in NYC and nationally - I think New Yorkers want someone who will stand up to Trump and also get shit done and don't have patience for a lot of activism or progressive/leftist ideas, especially since the City Council will still have plenty of both, for better or worse (probably worse).

New Yorkers want someone who's going to govern, who knows how to govern (or at least will make an effort and seem like they do) and unfortunately Cuomo is the one that fits that. Especially if he's going to stand up to Trump, and he's already making hay out of his being targeted by the GOP for investigations.

I think Cuomo is going to pull off the same thing that Adams did last time - he's going to have a large and consistent enough number of votes that he just needs to last until he gets above 50%. Polling right now has him at 40%, with Mamdani in second at 14%. I feel like Cuomo will be able to pick up more votes from other candidates during the various rounds of ranked choice voting (which I don't think NYC understands and is able to handle tbh) than Mamdani would.

I think Cuomo wins the Democratic nomination and beats Sliwa and Adams in November.

MaAAAN I am SO CONFUSED about the King of Prism news this morning (3/22/2024).

They announced something called "King of Prism Come Back" is coming to theaters in Japan this summer. I'm assuming it's a new movie or series, but they don't actually say so and like... is that REALLY the name or just a placeholder? And man, the accompanying art of Shin looks very odd. I hope this is not actually the new style.

Also, apparently, a new browser game was announced called King of Prism Kirameki.

But info is very vague about this as well, other than it's a "simulation" game and if enough people preregister we'll get 1200 diamonds, 10 prism tickets, and a SR Shin.

This is a really bad idea. As OP says, the Tested podcast is a great place to learn more about why that is. Hope you don’t mind me jumping on your post, OP!

If you're outraged/confused by the controversy surrounding Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting and sex testing at the Olympics (why are they allowed to do it, why are they allowed to release the results to the public, etc), then I cannot recommend enough listening to the short run podcast Tested, hosted by Rose Eveleth. The series goes into when sex testing in Olympic Women's sports started (hint: literally the moment women were allowed to compete), why it started, how it's done, the ways in which is has been challenged, put down, then comes back as if nothing has changed, and how it has destroyed the careers and lives of numerous athletes who are disproportionately dark skinned women from the global South. It cannot be overstated the role racism plays in who gets tested.
