Exercise for Better Sleep
Exercise is excellent for our body and mind and it can also help us get a good night’s sleep.
There is evidence that exercise does help you fall asleep more quickly and improves sleep quality, based on existing studies, but there’s some debate as to what time of day you should exercise.
How exercise helps us sleep
The research doesn't fully explain how physical activity improves sleep and some studies conclude that we may never be able to establish the mechanism that explains how the two are related.
However, we do know that moderate aerobic exercise increases the amount of slow wave sleep you get. Slow wave sleep refers to deep sleep, where the brain and body have a chance to rejuvenate. Exercise can also help to stabilise your mood and decompress the mind.
Why the timing of exercise matters?
Some people may find that exercising close to bedtime seems to keep them up at night.
Aerobic exercise causes the body to release endorphins. These chemicals can create a level of activity in the brain that keeps some people awake. If you experience this, you should exercise at least 1 to 2 hours before going to bed, giving endorphin levels time to reduce and the brain time to 'wind down'.
Exercise raises your core body temperature. The effect of exercise in some people is like taking a hot shower that wakes you up in the morning and this elevation in core body temperature signals the body clock that it’s time to be awake. But after about 30 to 90 minutes, the core body temperature starts to fall and this fall helps to facilitate sleepiness.
Despite these biological responses to exercise, other people find that the time of day they exercise doesn’t make a difference and whether it’s in the early morning or close to bedtime, they’ll see a benefit to their sleep.
How Much Exercise Do You Need for Better Sleep?
The good news is people who participate in at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise may see a difference in sleep quality that same night.
So, while we should all be encouraged to exercise, just be mindful of timing and whether it seems to affect your ability to get optimal sleep quality. You know your body the best.

Thanks!!!! The method took a lot of trial and error, but I'm super pleased with the results now that I've got a system.
We're always sharing bookbinding tips over in the @renegadepublishing discord, and I've talked about trimming books a fair number of times, so here's a fairly organized post to keep all my pictures in order.
So! How does Avin trim the books?
Tools first. I use my lying/finishing press, a flat backed woodworking chisel, a scrap of bookboard, and tools to sharpen the chisel.

Now the process. As shown both above and below, I clamp the book+scrap bookboard in the press and lay it on its side, bookboard at the bottom.
Most of the tutorial vids I saw had it upright and pushing the chisel forward, but my press isnt clamped to anything, so that setup was Bad for me. See next step for why mine is on its side.

Now, I take the chisel and press the flat back against the press. This is important! And why you need the flat back chisel. This keeps your cuts all in the exact same axis.

Now I pull the chisel towards me, still at that angle shown. I use very little downward pressure, letting gravity do most of the work. I'm only cutting one, maybe two sheets of paper at a time. This is a process requiring a stupid amount of patience lol


Then just keep going. Slowly. Do not push too hard or you'll hurt your hand. Make sure you have that bookboard under the text block. This will keep the last few pages of your book in the right place so you don't get slippage.
The other key is a stupid-sharp blade. I got a run of the mill woodworkers chisel at the local hardware store then sharpened it myself using three grades of grit--coarse, medium, fine. Then I hone it on a piece of leather.

I need to hone the blade often. Like, every eighth inch of book cut often. This does. Not. Work with a dull blade.
I don't actually need to sharpen it with the grit super often in my experience. Only when honing doesn't bring back the edge do i need to go at it with the sharpening cards/stones again. And then, just use the finest grit to bring back the edge.
As long as I'm careful and patient, this is the result!

You could use sand paper after this so get a super shiny edge, but I don't. This alone gets a really smooth edge that works for edge decoration and is just as good as any industrial guillotine I've ever thrown a book in.

I have this weird sleeping pattern where I sleep early before 12 then I wake up at 12, sleep at 3 then wake up again at 6, and then go back to sleep then wake at 9.
Also, I have this creepy dream where my deceased relatives haunt me for like two days (I rarely have a consecutive dreams in a row). What does it mean? Am I ready to be part of them? Or there's a hidden meaning that I should unveil?
