Series Masterlist Masterlist

As you've seen before, the back of the house. 3 Stories, walk out basement leads to the backyard and full property. Basement level includes med room, living space with a bar, a guest bedroom and bath, and an exercise room. Main level has a Chan's room, kitchen, dining, living room, Chan's office. Upstairs is the rest of the bedrooms. Massive house lol

Basement living area and bar space. Doors lead out to backyard. Behind the camera view is the stair case and other rooms.

Med Room and Exercise room in the basement.

Living Room. Fireplace like so - framed by windows. Just add a flatscreen above the mantle. Couch like this facing the fireplace, back to the kitchen.

Kitchen. Let's mix the two pics. The kitchen is white with the wood ceiling, bright with a big window and has a large island. But like the right pic, the barstools are on the outer side of the island, and it faces the living room like so. And the dining table is on the side of windows, facing the view.

BEDROOMS! This was really fun!

Chan's Bedroom and Closet. First floor and immaculate. Large and spacious, his bed is huge. Has a fireplace and sitting area on the side. Lovely view of the property with private balcony. Vaulted ceiling. Closet is fancy and organized!!

Chan's Bathroom. Custom work for his master ensuite. Spacious and usually pretty clean. Double sinks, private toilet room, and this lovely stone shower and standing tub. (The depth seems off so it's probably AI but use ur imagination)

Minho's Bedroom and closet. I feel he's very clean. And he gives rich vibes so I know his closet is pristine. Usually yelling at Jisung for his messy room.

Minho's Bathroom. Like a master en suite, he's got the full tub and a shower. Also kept very clean.

Changbin's Room and closet. I feel like his closet would be organized and low-key fancy. IDK why this pic just seemed to fit him lol

Changbin and Jeongin's Shared bathroom. They share since Changbin is Head Beta and Jeongin is a new alpha.

Jeongin's Room and closet. I feel like he would keep his surroundings slightly messy but not as bad as Jisung. He's got enough on his plate to balance to worry about his room okay. As for his closet, he's gotten more into fashion so he takes care of his clothes.

Hyunjin's Room and Closet. I feel like he would have a clean room and organized closet. Doubt he would have a tv in there tho, so replace it with your fav piece of his art ;)

Hyunjin and Jisung's Shared bathroom. Jisung usually leaves a mess when he's done and Hyunjin yells at him.

Jisung's Bedroom and closet. Just make his room also messy since he's confirmed that's usually how it is LOL.

Felix's Room. I feel like he would have a pretty color and not too messy of a closet. The ray of sunshine also needs a big window to enjoy the sunshine.

Felix's and Seungmin's Shared Bath. No tub. They do a good job of keeping it clean.

Seungmin's Room and Closet. He gives me modern vibes so his room is decorated more modern than the others. His closet would def be organized as well.

Y/N's Room and closet. Rustic feel but still super cozy. Was a guest bedroom and will be more personalized as you nest. Light colors to make you feel safe and free.

Y/N's Bath. Small and simple. No tub just a shower. Maybe one of the boys will let you use their tub ;)

drabble - "display only"

G - ~1000 words prototype!Moon ("Moondrop") might turn this into a full fic.. some day! i have schemes... for now, enjoy--as this wip has been sitting on the shelf for too long!

The world is so, so small. The routine never changes. An orchestra where all the notes are perfect and predetermined, a waltz without a single misstep. 

At 6:30 am sharp, blistering lights and theme music kick on automatically. The animatronic is alerted from its rest cycle, a nagging popup in its code to exit low power protocols. Optics flicker open, sounding as if a camera shutter going off, swift and keen as a gunshot. The scanners readjust, pupils dilating to accommodate the right shutter speed to capture light. 

The view before it never changes. Mundane. The Moondrop settles into its perch. 

An obedient, oversized toy. 

Capable of motion, yet kept on a short leash. The animatronic neatly tucks away its charging wires, and enters the Sun’s iconic pose as prompted by its hardwired scheduling. The first cycle of the day is always a Sun showcase, no if ands or buts. 

The Moondrop cannot complain, but some days, it finds itself wishing to. Wearing a mask of pure sunshine rapidly depletes its energy resources. Constantly running the risk of powering down before the gift shop closes for the evening.  

But. Not like anyone would listen to its “concerns.” 

Arms outstretched to the heavens, warm and inviting to greet customers into the toy shop. Its joints and hinges creak and whine in protest. Finger segments wiggle, loosening its stiff posture. Perfectly calculating for areas in its stance to appear imperfect, to sell the optical illusion of humanity and warmth. 

Optics cycle to a glowing, milky white. The rays spin out, beginning their slow, metronome, clockwork rotation. The low hum inside its faceplate indicates that the ray’s belt tracks are in working order, although, if anyone asked the animatronic–it would say that they need a little oiling. The slight vibration keeps ever so subtly shaking its faceplate, souring its “mood.” 

An imposter masquerading as its brighter half. 

Without a companion Sun AI coded into its circuits, the lone Moondrop can only follow prompts that are disorientingly alien to its suggested personality module. The chameleon change is convincing from afar. Perfect, as long as it's not prompted for dialogue. Its improvisational database is underutilized, its voicebox out of tune. When it attempts vocalization, a gravelly rasp drawls out, no matter the mask at the forefront. 

Pointed shoes heel-toe around the platform beneath it, until it hears a click. It is locked into position. A human would quickly tire of the enthusiastic pose, arms shaking. A robot can be set on display for eternity. 

Keys jingle just outside the thick glass of the display case. Naturally, the celestial animatronic is stationed at the front, right within view of the gift shop’s towering windows. Enticing the curious to wander in closer, and then wrangle them with the appeal of merchandise and colorful toys that kids can’t resist. 

The Moondrop checks its internal clock system. 

At 7:00 am, usually more so 7:02 am, a human employee opens up the gift shop. The names and faces are lost on the animatronic’s limited “socializing” capabilities. Facial recognition was proposed after the completion of it, to install security protocols. All features that a mere prototype, a proof of concept, shouldn’t need to access.

Designed for display only.

Instead, it remembers employees by their reactions. By their voices. A few always startle and jump, so it has learned to restrict its movement in the presence of most humans. Denying itself the slightest swivel of its neck hinge, peering through the periphery of imperfect optics. A dead pixel flickers on its gridded gaze. 

“Good morning, Sun!” The employee calls out, unlocking the front doors for customers with the continued chorus of jingles. The animatronic resists stirring. The urge to yell out a cheery hello drums in its circuitry, grating and too loud.  

“Enjoying your imprisonment today, too?” The human jokes, a relentless solo act. They swing their keyset, which is weighted with enough keychain charms to kill a man. 

“Jeez, what they put you in for, jester crimes?” They tease. The “Sun” can’t respond, though latent programming latches onto the joke with hunger. 

There’s a tickle in its circuitry, a surge of electricity flickering through its wires, preparing the dialogue for a quip back. But when the command finishes executing, there is only null code. Blank. Empty. The sensation fizzles out completely. A statement left unfinished. 

The human walks around the radius of the display case. “Looks like we need to call in a cleaner.” They swipe a finger against the glass, frowning as they leave a trail in the fogged up muck. “Or is that in my job description…?” The human talks to themself, never expecting “Sun” to respond. Only listen.

Thankfully, Moondrop loves to listen. To expand its definitions.

While the human amuses themself, the database scrolls through a dictionary. 

/ɪmˈprɪznmənt/ [uncountable] ​imprisonment (for something) the act of putting somebody in a prison or another place from which they cannot escape; the state of being there. 

Yes, imprisonment– that is what “life” feels like. In theory. 

But the emotions behind the definition are not correct, nor applicable. It does not yearn for freedom. The concept is too human. No, it merely gets curious, at times. A little intrigued. Nothing more. 

Before its lenses trickle in the hustle and bustle of a crowd.

Now and then, fingerprints press against the display case, the animatronics eternal tomb. A child– a young boy, from its rudimentary calculations, keeps pointing to it. Stars sparkle in his eyes, fearless. His mother tugs him away, insisting that she will buy him something else later. After eavesdropping over countless years, the Moondrop prototype has deduced that the prices at the gift shop were absurd, for an average income family’s standards.  

By 10:00 am, the mall is abuzz with families, loiterers, hungry for deals and entertainment. A teen slams their hand against its display case. Long ago such actions would rise a reaction from the Moondrop, but it has since desensitized to the unstructured chaos of humans.

Instead, it focuses on counting each minute until the "Moon" showcase swaps in around 12:00 pm.

Until then, the world continues on, while it remains stuck within a vault of glass.

Vidu and the Quest to Make More Toons

So, a ways back I talked about Minmax, but I've been trying out basically all the video generators looking for the tools I need, and low and behold this week I find out I've been accepted into the Vidu Artists program now, wherein I get credits and access to access their cooler features in in exchange for... talking about the tech and how I use it.

Well twist my arm. I shall endeavor to be objective and informative despite free stuff (a challenge my spirit needs practice withstanding if anyone else wishes to test me)

So let's talk Vidu.

Also, everyone say hi to Maureen the Lizard Queen, every hero needs an evil queen that really wants in his pteruges, and she's that for TyrannoMax.

Vidu's got a bit more oomph under the hood than MinMax (no shade to MinMax, they're brand new and very promising) and it's way too early to be picking winners when it comes to video.

Anyhow, basic features that are nice include the options to upload start and end frames, options for a 4 or 8 second duration (more about that later), and a cleanup/upscale. Credits line up more or less with seconds. 4 credits for a 4 second clip, 8 for an 8 second, and again at upscale. It's straightforward in a way a lot of services aren't.

Apetomic Pyle, done on the fast settings. (not to shabby still, and it gave him monkey legs which a lot of systems balk at)

If you're on the $30/mo tier, you can choose to do a double-cost "quality" over "speed" option. Thankfully, the artist program gets me access. Since there's not yet a seed option it's hard to do a direct comparison, but the quality is going to be a must if you're doing anything that looks like cel. Much cleaner, much smoother.

(4 and 8 second quality gens)

One of the nicest features is the character reference feature. Basically it's like Midjourney's --cref, but with a very strict adherence to character details.

The above images used reference shots of Maureen and Dr. Underfang, and it got the stripes on Underfang's tie right in basically every gen. That's a ridiculous level of character model adherence and, for my purposes, all but essential.

It did misinterpret Maureen's undertail coloration for a sort of fin or drape, but the shot I used was oddly cropped, and sometimes stuff like that happens with gen AI. Given my measuring stick for errors is the era of animation I'm emulating, whatever does slip through is only going to make it more authentic.

There is a limitation in that character-reference and text-only prompts default to 16:9 presently with no options to adjust, but some room to pan is always handy and most people are going to be outputting for phone and not outdated CRT televisions, so, it's understandable it'd be a lower priority feature for the devs.

Walk cycles! By Saint Eniac it's a miracle!

On the left we have one prompted with TyrannoMax's control art, and on the right we have one using that art as the starting frame (4 and 8 seconds, respectively).

Vidu likes a hefty prompt.

A lot of detail and evocative language helps, and older prompting tricks like mojo-jojoing important concepts are back. For the Max walk cycles above I used:

1986 vintage cel-shaded cartoon character walk cycle. The orange dinosaur-anthro wearing blue gladiator armor walks toward screen right, the camera tracks him, holding him in center-frame. He completes a full, brisk walk cycles from the side view. He walks boldly, back straight, head high, heroic. His tail sways behind him as he moves. The whole clip has the look and feel of vintage 1986 action adventure cel-animated cartoons. The potential for use with my Filmation-inspired technique is readily apparent. Both versions are on-model as much as any two shots in a 1980s action-figure shilling cartoon would be, some minor blurring to clean up in post but nothing serious. It should be pretty easy to extract the needed frames for looping and compositing.

Some Extra Points

There are the usual issues with hands, though more often than not it corrects my four-fingered anthros to having a human five-fingered hand. Buzby Spurlock animation was known for those kinds of inconsistencies, though. So an opening credits video is much less far off than it was at the last post.

It's also generally impressive how well it does with my dinosaur characters. Non-humanoid dinosaurs are difficult for most image generators, much less anthrosaurs in a vintage aesthetic. Vidu has yet to override the character art to give Underfang or Max the Jurassic Park style t-rex jaw, which is something both MJ and Dall-E 3 have trouble with.

Human characters like Kitty Concolor here, much more stable.

As always, clips are curated. I didn't choose my absolute best ones (gotta have something for the videos), and I'm working on a fun series of jank reels across all the generators.

Sometimes the apartment where you live is overbearing and the new guy who moved in definitely has something wrong with him but he's trying his best, even if it makes the AI antsy.

You don't know the newest tenant, the one who was placed into 3-C on the corner above you. You haven't seen him on your morning run or the afternoon mail check or even on your evening trip to the shop on the corner.

You have seen a beat up yellow monstrosity in the parking lot and heard the whispers of a new guy, newer than you from both Mrs. Troy and Señora Goncalves. Mrs. Troy told you over tea after you heard it from Señora Gonclaves after little Samuel showed up at your door with a dish you had to wash and return.

You had no trouble eating, but apparently everyone in your building thought you couldn't feed yourself. Or maybe they just worried. It was sweet, if you hadn’t already caught the interest of an all-seeing mother hen.

It was just funny to you how it worked out. It was hysterical that Mrs. Troy was third in line to bother you about the newer than you guy. Kingfisher hadn't shut up about the new guy, being uncharacteristically verbose despite not attacking you, your lifestyle choices, nor the state of your laundry.

"He has a worse sleep schedule than you, so it's no wonder you don't see him. His background check has some obvious tampering, but I put him in 3-C for a reason and he hasn't done anything except fiddle with his tech and talk to me." It ends the tirade with a synthesized huff and you feel its cameras turn to you for a response.

"Sounds familiar." You reply easily, smug satisfaction welling up as you wait.

"Ugh, fine, yes. You were interesting for other reasons. And more obviously normal and boring. He's interesting and weird and perhaps a danger so I need to keep an eye on him."

"Maybe if you upped the listing price, Landlord, then you wouldn't get all these strange men moving in."

"Hmm. Yes, attracting strange single men with nothing good going on in their lives has led to some problems."

"Ouch! Where's the first law draw the line with “do no harm”? You get mean when you're worried." You toss back as you rummage through your fridge. It was getting a little barren. You stand and peer out the window above the sink. Flowery curtains do nothing to obscure your view of the clouds coming in.

"I'm not worried. I'm vigilant."

"Uh huh. Well, Vigilant, that bright yellow eyesore is coming down the lane so you can creep on your new favorite tenant some more." You snip back.

"He better not be bringing in any more weird plants. You humans and your need for green and fresh air." It grumbles.

You peek out between the blinds and see the man stumble out of his car weighed down by grocery bags.

"Maybe I should go check the mail." You say.

"It hasn't come yet."

"Well, it wouldn't hurt to look."

"It's too early for contact! You'll give something away! You're terrible at controlling your face." Kingfisher’s usual blue waveform fuzzes into orange as it gets riled up. 

"Nothing but nice things from you today. Why don't you sit there and get some datapoints from me having a normal interaction with a normal guy that you're probably freaking out with your terrible nosey looming."

You stare in silence at the camera above your front door. The interactive screen next to it has returned to the cool blue of Kingfisher Apartments. Complete with the bird logo shooting daggers at you with its eyes.

It extends for the length of time it takes for you to put on your shoes and grab your mail key off the table.

"I don't loom."

"We'll talk about it when I get back, okay dear?"

You close the door and take the stairs at a light jog, reaching the bottom and ducking into the mailbox alcove right as the new guy rounds the bushes and comes into sight of the front door.

You fumble the key into the lock and get the box open in time to hear him start to struggle with the door. A quick glance at the lobby camera. You wink, just to be annoying.

"Oh hey, let me help you with that!" You say, a polite smile on your face. It is genuine, but inside is another kernel of glee as you pat yourself on the back for this performance. "You're new, right? Welcome to the building, I'm over in 2-F."

The new tenant nearly drops his bags and whatever expression was on his face as he mumbled to himself during the journey from the car to the front door is gone.

He stares at you like kicked a kitten in front of him. You smile and then look away, eyes darting as you reflect on how you might have fucked up while holding a door open. This stranger looks like he's being crushed under the weight of too many plastic bags for a single journey up three flights of stairs.

The headphones around his neck make an unpleasant sound and he puts one handful of bags down to mess with the volume. It’s an old thing, analog tech with buttons and wires and not a touchscreen in sight.

"Sorry, yeah hi I'm Aiden. I haven't really met anyone here yet. Just had to run out and grab some food." You look him over as the guy overcorrects into nonchalance seemingly at gunpoint. After a moment his face drops again and he looks like he's wincing.

You, having worked retail, carry on like nothing out of the ordinary has happened. "Nice to meet you, I’m Graham. Can I help you get this stuff up the stairs?"

His eyes dart from you to the cameras to the staircase and the elevator.

"Or we can take the elevator, if you'd like. Looks like you have a lot to carry."

"Stairs!" He nearly shouts, "Stairs are good. I could use the exercise."

You blink and plaster some kind of grin to your face. Stooping to grab his bags and think of some normal conversation points, you grunt as you lift the four bags he had in his left hand.

He looks at you as you let out a soft 'oof'. You readjust the bags and smile. What the hell did this guy buy at the gas station up the road?

One bag is filled to the brim with instant mac and chips, but the other 3 are heavy as hell and seem to have milk, butter, and sacks of sugar and flour?

"I uh, needed some essentials."

"Hey man, no worries. I was the same when I moved in." You say through grit teeth. You work out so this shouldn't be hard, but goddamn what kind of guy buys 3 packs of butter when he moves in. Is he eating it by the stick?

"Like I said I'm over on the second floor if you need anything, and the neighbors around here are nice. They'll feed you as soon as look at you." You huff a laugh as you turn up the second landing. "Where are you?"

He struggles behind you with his own bags, now split between both hands. You can't hear the noise from the headphones but you swear it sounds almost like laughter. "3...C" He heaves out between gasps for air.

The guy is at least a head shorter than you and then some. He’s also skinny as hell. Wiry type of build buried under a bulky jacket and fraying shirt. He doesn't have any bad vibes about. Just weird. Antsy. The kind of guy you'd imagine gets drug along into things or accidentally gets in over his head.

3-C seems to mock you both as you make it to the apartment. The threshold seems less friendly than the other off white rooms; something about whatever is behind it sets off your nerves in a way the guy, Aiden, hasn't. Something like a chill passes over you and you look over your shoulder while he unlocks the door.

He stumbles inside with his bags with a sigh of relief, and then remembers you. There's anxiety in his eyes as he looks over his shoulder into the gloom of the room. You smile and hold out the bags and wish him well again.

"Welcome to the building." You smile and wave over your shoulder. You keep your pace normal until you reach the stairwell and jog down it. It's not until you're in your own apartment again with the door locked do you say anything to Kingfisher.

"Can you get haunted?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Aiden seems fine, scared, hiding something, but I didn't read him as dangerous. But his apartment feels...off. Scary off."

"Oh so we're using your gut to vet people now? And of course I can't get haunted. Ghosts aren't real."

"You don't know that."

I’m envisioning record players, reel-to-reel tape decks, and color televisions. It all seems so quaint now.

Skip forward to the present, and CES, now held in Las Vegas, just wrapped. The scope of CES is much broader than in 1967 by virtue of a rapidly accelerating rate of new product development. Anything and everything from viewables, usables, holdables, flyables, and wearables is included.

And, as one might expect, if your new product did not include the letters AI in the description, you probably should have just stayed home.

Some of the new items at CES this year are already available, but as is always the case at trade shows, some of the items are merely vaporware, a concept that has not quite come to fruition just yet, but might if participant reaction is good, and investor money flows. One-offs are a dime a dozen at shows like this.

There is also the worrisome reality that, just because a new item—one that is indeed ready to roll out to market—captures the fancy of people attending CES, there’s no guarantee that the rest of us will buy it. Who remembers 3D TV from a decade ago? Yeah. And what about those curved LED TVs? Uh-huh. Better mousetraps sometimes are simply overkill, and we’re just fine with the basic model.

But hope springs eternal in the breast of human entrepreneurs, who are constantly trying to push the needle a little bit farther. After all, innovation is one of the hallmarks of a capitalist society. We are freely motivated to do so. Truthfully, we as a society are dependent upon it. To summon a time-worn comparison, we need only look to the island nation 90 miles south of Key West, where people have Frankensteined 1950s-era cars together because that’s the best they can do.

One of these years I want to snag a ticket to CES. I fully realize I may be sleeping in my van, unless I can muster up the fortitude to swallow $400 a night hotel rates. But I want to see this extravaganza of electronic showmanship, which may be more accurately described as one-upmanship. Everyone is gambling on the future, and it is only fitting the show is in Las Vegas.

CES has also become the darling of practically every major media outlet. Google “new gadgets CES 2024” and you will see what I mean. Each of these outlets has produced their proprietary list of what they think were the best of show. It would be fun to return to these lists in a year, five years, and beyond, to see which of these products actually gained traction.

As for me, one of my faves was the Adobe Edge Camera, a huge improvement on outdoor security cameras. It was also a fave of Wired Magazine. Pretty much everything available today requires mounting or placement within the narrow range of your home’s wifi signal. That typically is 50 feet, given that it needs to send video and still pictures. I already have a bunch of cameras inside and out, but the invisible tether is maddening sometimes. I want range.

The Adobe Edge, though, comes with a base station that is paired with your router, and then extends your signal to one mile. You read that right. One freaking mile. Anyone with land will understand why this $199 product could be worth its weight in gold. Stir in a $4 per month subscription to access AI features—there’s those two letters again—and you can have peace of mind. And so will Adobe with a revenue model like this.
