Efficacious: (adjective) Successful in producing a desired or intended result.
Geno had been very confused why Mario would allow Bowser to join them. They were enemies, right? How could the human willingly allow such a bully to follow them around?
The Koopa was loud, rude, in your face. More of an annoyance than anything else.
There was a fleeting hope that, when Peach joined them, she would push the Koopa out. But she took it all in a very diplomatic stride. Knowing Bowser wouldn’t try anything since he needs their help to get his fortress back. So would engage when needed and keep her distance when he felt too ‘comfortable’ around the princess.
Mallow, rightfully so, was fearful of the large Koopa at the start. After all, Bowser was intimidating. Large, growling voice, with an intense aura of ‘keep away from me’ radiating off of him. The young cloud doing his best to keep his distance the moment Bowser joined them.
This shockingly changed the further they traveled together. Geno was surprised when Bowser took on a bit of a fatherly role around the cloud child. The Koopa did his best to distract Mallow when conversations became a bit too heavy. Or keeping an extremely close eye on the youngest party member when they were in a fight.
Even then, Geno didn’t trust Bowser.
Something that the Koopa picked up on right away. Apparently loving that Geno was a new verbal punching bag. As Mario could roll every comment sent his way by the Koopa like there was nothing said. While Geno was someone who snapped back. No matter how many times he was told to just ignore Bowser.
“Hey, Kindling! Think you could actually aim for once?”
“Move it Twinkle Toes, you’re in my way.”
“You can’t be that naive DriftWood.”
The more Geno attempted to argue back, the more Bowser would just laugh in his face.
“Are you absolutely sure he has to remain with us?” Geno muttered weakly so only Mario could hear him.
Mario gave a sympathetic smile before putting a hand on the puppet’s shoulder. “Try not to let him get to you. Honestly, this is his way of…keeping the peace.”
“By upsetting me?”
“By treating you like he treats everyone else. It’s…hard to explain. But there are beings here that use teasing as a way to show they care.”
“That…makes no sense.”
Mario couldn’t hold back the laugh seeing Geno’s screwed up face of confusion, “Look, look, if you poked him back and not yell at him, you’d see Bowser’s not too bad.”
“...The guy who constantly puts the Mushroom Kingdom in danger…is not too bad.”
“We earthbound are complicated creatures. Besides, Bowser is a power house and we need that right now. If anyone’s going to end a fight, it’s gonna be him.”
Geno huffed and crossed his arms, plopping himself down next to Mario. Feeling slightly better when the human wrapped an arm around him.
“Just stick near me, okay? You’ll be fine.”
______________________
This was turning into a serious beat down, and not in the hero's favor.
Geno felt his entire body shaking as he attempted to stay up. He’d lost sight of the rest of his team almost as soon as the battle started. The puppet left to deal with a speedster of a minion. The annoying creature able to zip around faster than what Geno could respond to. Who was covered in a number of landed attacks while he frantically tried to just see the thing attacking him. The surrounding area marked with Geno’s misfires.
That high pitched giggle was driving Geno insane. Hand gun swiveling around as he tried to fight his combatant.
“Too slow!” the giggle sounded again, “Too slow!”
“Come out and fight me!” Geno called out.
“No, no, no, that’s not how this works. You have to find me if you want to fight me!”
A shuffling in the bush caused Geno to turn.
He collapsed onto one knee as a blow was delivered to the back of his leg.
“Tisk, tisk! Have you not learned the pattern yet? I thought you heroes were supposed to be tough! Such a weak little thing. Is the Star having a hard time?”
Geno got back up, stumbling when he put weight on the leg that held the newest wound.
“Feeling a little out of your element? Fighting is far different than granting silly little wishes. You’re not very useful here, are you?”
“Would you shut up and fight me!” Geno called out.
“Temper, temper! If you’re going to be a poor sport about this, I guess our game’s going to have to end.”
Geno tensed as he braced himself for the next attack to land. Only to jump as the ground shook, something heavy being slammed behind him.
He turned quickly to find Bowser behind him. With, who was probably the person who attacked Geno, a strange creature being crushed by his claws. Geno flinched slightly when Bowser’s red eyes darted up to him.
“You look terrible, Termite Bait.” Bowser gruffed out.
“Uh… Thank you?” Geno voiced weakly.
They both looked in the distance when a deep rumble was heard. Geno tensing further when the Koopa let out a low growl.
“Bowser-”
“Get back to the others.”
“I- What?” Geno took a few steps back as the rumble drew closer.
“I kind of broke away from my own fight to save your backside,” Bowser said, “you need to run before you’re caught up in this. You’re in no shape to keep fighting.”
“But-”
“I said get!”
Geno turned and ran the moment Bowser bared his teeth. The puppet’s nerves rose as he heard the Koopa’s roar once more. It was as he realized that he had no idea where he was going that Geno popped out into a new clearing. Mario called out the other’s name, clearly happy and relieved to be back together.
“Are you okay?” Mario asked, “You’re hurt, let’s get you some Mushrooms”
“Wait, wait, Bowser! He’s back there, fighting on his own!”
The human gave a sharp nod before running off to where Geno pointed towards. Only to scramble to a halt when said Koopa came stomping out of the foliage. Scrapped up, but appearing fine.
“Bowser-” Mario fell quiet when given a hard stare. The human taking a step back. Allowing Bowser to stalk closer to Geno.
Who did his best to stand his ground as Bowser knelt closer.
“I don’t work with wimps.” Bowser growled out.
Geno puffed up at that. “I’m not.”
“Then don’t let stupid words fluster you so much that you forget how to fight.”
Geno wasn’t allowed to argue further as Bowser walked past him. Muttering something about needing to find Peach and Mallow.
A little stunned by what happened, Geno turned to Mario.
“Bowser…confuses me.”
“But he gets the job done. Come on, we’d better not lose him.”

Hi I was wondering if you could do scenario where Kenma, kuroo, ushiwaka and Tendo (separately) catch someone trying to take a picture up their fem s/o’s skirts.
Shouldn't Have Done That
A/N: Hey there @demonbitterbite Sorry if it took two months (and it might not be what you had in mind) but it's here now! It's long overdue and I think this ended up with them being ooc but hope you enjoy!
Kozume Kenma
Having Kenma as your s/o meant at some days, there would be game store dates. And today was no different as the two of you rushed towards the usual store. You don't mind though, it was fun doing the things he likes to do.
"Calm down, Kenma. It won't run away even if we're a bit late." You let out a chuckle as the boy dragged you by the wrist.
"But the game would go out of stock. Today's the release date and almost everyone in the forum's coming down to buy it." He replied without as much as looking back at you.
"Geez, you and your games... Well, as long as I get to play too." He let out a huff and what you assume was an eye roll from your position behind him.
"It's meant to be played with multiple people, anyway."
Arriving, the place was packed but you noticed that not everyone was aiming for a particular shelf that your boyfriend had been eyeing since he stepped his right foot in. Hurriedly, the dyed-blonde-haired male grasped your hand tightly in his, pulling you near him.
"Stay close to me and don't... let go," The setter muttered, red slightly painting his cheeks and neck as he shifted his weight from the right to his left foot, "We don't want a repeat of last time."
"Hey! It was only one time and I even made you an apple pie as an apology."
In his eyes, the current situation was like a game. He just needed to avoid the others and get the item while also protecting you from straying far away from him. It took a few long minutes, bumping into sweaty bodies and unexplainable odors before finally, the newly-arrived, open-world RPG videogame was in his hands.
"Did you get it? Please tell me you got it or else I'll have Tetsurou carry his ass over here because we are not--" You spoke first, going on your toes to look over his shoulder when he turned around and waved the item in front of you.
"I got it. I grabbed three just in case their multiplayer function ended up being a joke," Kenma then tucked it away under his arm, "By the way, did you need anything from here before we go?"
"Ah, that's right! I think I saw that gaming console I've been eyeing for a week now--"
It was the sound of a shutter that made you stop. You're not sure whether it was close to you or not but, you were sure it was. You could even feel the fumbling of the person behind you as you eyed Kenma for help.
But he was just silent, glaring so hatefully at the guy behind you as he pulled you behind him, "What are you doing?"
The stranger flinched and was about to run away when he bumped into a customer, stumbling on his feet before falling on his ass, the phone laying beside him. The setter bent over, took the phone, and pocketed it. It was a sigh of relief to see that he now held nothing over you but your boyfriend still wasn't satisfied.
He was pissed off, his normally composed face contorted in disgust as his golden orbs stabbed daggers at the stranger. To the man, it felt like the weight of the whole world was on his shoulders and that heaven dumped it on him on purpose just because he made the mistake of taking a picture under your skirt.
But then, Kenma decides that this person is not worthy of his attention. He needed to check up if you were alright and he did. The man took this opportunity to flee, not after tripping on his own two feet.
"Are you okay?" Your nod was just enough for him to calm down, that was before you heard him grumble.
"What?" There was a pause before he grabbed your wrist and pulled you closer to him.
"Nothing. This is why I don't interact with people, they're idiots." That earned him a laugh from you. And in his head, he felt like he got himself an achievement for making you laugh despite the situation earlier.
"But I thought the reason was that you're not good with them?" He wants to look at you, to glare for knowing the true reason why he doesn't want to interact but he can't. He knows he can't because he's sure he'll fall all over again for being someone he'll step out of his comfort zone for.
And so he grumbles again, keeping his thoughts to himself, "... Let's just go before someone decides to attempt another stunt like that again."
Kuroo Tetsurou
Lately, Kuroo Tetsurou had been busy with work that it was hard to even keep the conversation between the two of you strictly personal and not work-related. So in return, you decided to surprise him. Wearing your best outfit, you waited just outside the building where he was having a meeting at.
"Geez, how long will his meeting even drag on?" You huffed, checking on your phone once more, "Said he'll be out in a sec but makes me wait for ten minutes."
Before you arrived, you had messaged him asking for the time he'll be off work and if he could meet you for lunch. And now, here you were, ten minutes later, listening to your favorite band while you wait. With a sigh, you just hoped that he'll be out before you cancel the surprise.
"Hey," You jumped in shock as a young man taps you on your shoulder, "Sorry. Is this the building for the Japan Volleyball Association?"
"It is."
"Oh good, I was worried that I got it wrong again," The man chuckled as he positioned himself beside you, "Is it okay if I wait here with you?"
"Uh, no, no. Go ahead!" You smiled, turning your attention away from him to your phone and occasionally, the entrance of the building.
It was peaceful for a while until you saw a figure in your peripheral. The tall and lean man with his muscular frame walked towards you, his cat-like pupils staring right at you and his lips curved into a smile. You were about to run over when he signaled you to stop, a finger on his lips to tell you to be quiet. You nod, confusion settling in.
"Oho ho ho, what's this I see?" In a flash, Kuroo's hand gripped onto the male's wrist beside you, "You know, it's not nice to take upskirt photos of other people, especially if that person happens to be my s/o."
"Let-let go, man! I'll delete the photos just let go!" The man struggled, pulling himself free from your boyfriend as well as the menacing look he was giving him.
"You won't even give me a copy?" The once scheming captain asked, "I mean, I don't mind. As long as it was my phone and I have the only copy, with their permission of course."
"T-Tetsurou!"
And he laughs. He's trying to make the situation light for you because he knows how uncomfortable you currently are, even if you don't show it, "Then again, I'd prefer it if it was done in the privacy of our bedrooms and with me and my s/o as the only people present."
"Y-you're crazy!" Kuroo narrowed his eyes, his grip tightening ever so slowly you could see the man panic, "I said let go!"
And the former captain did, sending the man on his ass and the phone in between them. The black-haired male took a few steps forward, bending over to pick up the item, "I'll be keeping this if you don't mind."
He then turns to you, a smile still present on his features. He placed his arm around your shoulders as he guides you away from the man, "Tetsu..."
"Sorry 'bout that, kitten. Are you okay now? Did he do anything else?" As you shook your head 'no', he seems to release a breath he was unknowingly holding, "Good, good. Do you still want to go to that reservation you planned?"
"Yeah-- wait, how'd you know?"
"You don't usually dress up in your favorite, looking all dolled up and pretty just for a simple lunch date, love," With his voice near your ear, a shiver ran up your spine. He was doing this on purpose, was he? "Besides, I know I've been busy lately. So, how does me making it up to you for a whole week sound?"
It was supposed to be you surprising him but with the offer present, you won't even complain, "Sure!"
Ushijima Wakatoshi
"Toshi!" He turned at the sound of your voice from among the crowd. His brows furrowed, confused for a moment because he was sure that you were still in class, "Toshi!"
And there it was again. His teammates are still talking and he's not so sure if his mind was playing tricks because he misses you and wants you right beside him, watching his match.
Then a weight took him by surprise, settling itself on his back. Giggling soon followed as the arms that situated themselves on his neck slipped, wrapping around his waist instead, "Surprise!"
"(y/n), what are you doing here?" The question first popped into his head as soon as he saw your face.
"Classes ended surprisingly early so I thought, why not surprise you? Had Satori on it too just so I could find out where you guys are and here I am!" A chuckle left the captain's lips as he raises his hand to ruffle your hair.
"I'm glad," There was that smile he often showed you on his face, "The game just started so there's still time before ours start."
"Great! I was thinking we could grab something for you and--- sorry, and the team to eat, what do you think?" Looking up at your boyfriend, you could see the way his eyebrows were forced downwards, a frown on his lips, "Toshi? Is there something wrong? Oh, would Coach Washijo get mad at you guys if we did?"
He didn't answer. You wondered what was wrong, was it because of the person who bumped into you just now? But it didn't make any sense for Ushijima to get mad at something so simple. The venue was packed with players, media personnel, and fans that not bumping into one would be the hardest thing to do.
Suddenly, Tendou came over to the two of you. The words you were about to say left as soon as you saw the same look on him. Was there something that you weren't aware of?
"What do we have here?" The redhead slung his arm around the person behind you, his voice was loud and taunting. In the stranger's hand, you noticed something moving.
It was a phone, with the camera on selfie mode. You shrieked, covering your skirt once you realized what was happening. The dark olive-brown-haired captain pulled you behind him, walking towards the culprit.
Ushijima offers his hand, palm facing up. The stranger looking at it, confused. Tendou nudged him, gesturing for the phone in his hand to be handed over to his captain.
"Thank you. But you shouldn't do something like that in the future," Your boyfriend says as soon as the device was in his hand, "It's my s/o's first time watching our match during the nationals and I'm sure you made their experience rather uncomfortable."
"Now now, Wakatoshi-kun. Don't need to rub your relationship in on the poor guy." The middle blocker teased.
"But I wasn't? I was only stating a fact."
"Hmm, why don't our friend here come with me for a bit?" Tendou pulls the person closer to him before snatching the phone from the ace, "Let's go!"
Ushijima turns to you, brows furrowed once more. He was thinking and you're not quite sure what it is about. So you stepped closer to him, wrapping your arms around his waist. This seemed to snap him out of his thoughts.
"Sorry."
You shook your head, "It's fine. Thank you though. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have even noticed."
"Are you alright? Feeling uncomfortable?" You shook your head no again.
"I'm fine now." And so was he. Everything's fine as long as you are too.
Tendou Satori
It was one of those days where he would be free from the responsibility of work so, Tendou took it as a chance to take you out on a date.
The city of Paris offered so many options for him but he knew it wouldn't be as romantic as seeing the evening view of the cityscape on top of the Eiffel Tower. He could even see it now. That's why he called for his sweet s/o to meet up with him by the park near the tower.
"Satori!" You called out towards the redhead, his figure leaning on a wall, "Sorry I'm late, I overslept and—"
"It's fine. You're here now, aren't you?"
He had donned his usual attire back when the two of you were still teenagers and living in Japan. That was years ago and yet you feel like he hadn't changed a bit—except the hair, that is.
"So, where to? Assuming that you've got something planned since you called me over," Though, looking at the smile on his face made you think otherwise, "B-but it's fine if you hadn't! We could just walk around and talk about whatever. I heard you got called in for a television show, right?"
The redhead laughed, ruffling your hair in delight, "Relax (n/n)-chan, I've got it all planned out! I wouldn't call you if I hadn't unless... you wanted to do something else? Just the two of us?" He leaned closer, nose almost touching yours. Tendou straightened up, laughing once again after seeing your flustered expression, "Just kidding, (n/n)-chan! Ouch hey, sorry! I was only joking!"
If he was being honest, he could just stare at you all day and forget about the date he had planned. you were in your best outfit and not the usual shirt-and-jeans combo you wore at work. The sun was halfway down when he took you by the hand and pulled you in the direction of the tower. The walk would have been smooth if it weren't for two men coming over and stopping you.
"(y/n), It's nice to see you here!" You recognize one of them as your co-worker. You sighed, catching the attention of Tendou, "You look extra lovely today."
"Thank you, Benard. It's... nice to see you here too," There was that look in his eyes that he always had when you were near and in the last minute decision, you plan on to stop the nonsense once and for all, "Oh, this is Satori. He's my boyfriend."
There was this shift in his stance when you introduced your s/o to him. You chose that shaved redhead instead of him? "And are you two off on a date?"
"We are, actually—"
"How about you hang out with us instead?" The abrupt words of your co-worker's friend cut yours off, "I'm sure you'll have a great experience with us. And maybe a photograph of what you're hiding down there as a reward?"
The man already had his phone in hand when Tendou pulled you beside him with an arm around your waist and a sardonic smile on his face that easily made the two uneasy. His dark red hues staring straight at them, at their soul that made them want to run away but their feet stayed glued to the ground.
"Satori..." You pulled at his jacket sleeve, not wanting the situation to escalate any further, "Let's go."
"Ah, I almost forgot! We'd be late if we stay here any longer," He brought you closer to him, walking away. But then he paused, looking back at the two who froze once more, "Let's meet up again! I'd like to know what you have planned for you and my s/o's hang out."
Neither dared to speak as silence engulfed the two of you for a moment. Thoughts had been running around the chocolatier's head: had that guy been harassing you for a while now? Were you ever going to tell him about it?
"Are you okay, Satori?" His face was all scrunched up in annoyance and you have no way of knowing what's going on in his mind.
He huffed lightly, "I should be asking you that."
"Well, I'm fine. And I don't think he'll bother me anymore after this, thanks by the way!" You smiled and yet there was still a bit of doubt.
"You're not just saying that, right?" And when you shook your head no, he lets himself relax, "Then, let's get our date started!"
• • •
Up at the top of the tower, you are in awe of the night view of the city. The wind blew lightly as you gripped the jacket he placed around you earlier closer to your body. You looked back at your boyfriend who had a smile on his lips.
"This is amazing! I love it!"
He stood beside you, one hand on your shoulders and the other in his pockets, "Glad you are. After what happened earlier, thought you deserve a little bit more than this."
"But nothing happened, Satori. You stopped them before they could and I'm glad you were there with me." His one-arm embrace was strong yet gentle.
"Anything for you, my paradise."

The Enemy of My Enemy
Jason Kolchek x Reader
Hello! I’m here to offer some more sweet Jason content, based on this ask!
Enjoy!!
Word Count: 6k
MASTERLIST
=============================================================
Your stomach clenched at the rattling of your seat. You were packed tight between soldiers, stuffed in the back of a poorly covered truck. You swallowed down the bile in your throat, cursing the motion sickness you were plagued with.
You had been enjoying a rare day off, dreaming of a long, hot bath when the Captain had shown up at your door, ordering you to come with him. You recognized the Lieutenant standing beside him, Salim was his name. He looked about as pleased as you, his foot tapping impatiently and his eyes darting around.
The American’s were coming, they’d said. A medic was needed with them, just in case.
After the Captain met your hesitation with a warning hand on his pistol, you grabbed your bag, double checking your stock before trudging out of your house, and into the godforsaken truck.
Why do we need to be fighting like this? We lost, just let it go.
After a long ride, the vehicle pulled to a stop, and you stumbled out onto solid ground, taking a few deep breaths of fresh air. The rest of the soldiers piled out behind you, some faces you recognized, and others you didn’t.
Risking a glance, you noticed two helicopters hovering in the air. You looked down, taking in the few shepherd huts, as well as the sandy uniforms, spread out across the grounds. They were there alright.
Salim rested a hand on your shoulder, pulling your attention away from the scene below. You met his gaze, and you could see the hesitation behind his eyes, the unwillingness. He was just as frustrated as you were.
“Stay back for now. If anything happens, stick close to someone. We can’t lose our only medic.” You let out a dry laugh at his poor attempt at a joke. You swallowed your fear, nodding to the Lieutenant before stepping away to take cover by a nearby wall.
You watched behind the scenes, as Salim and Dar debated amongst themselves, taking turns looking through a pair of binoculars. The two of them argued for a short moment, and you couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, until Dar yelled to another soldier, who pulled out a massive RPG from its case.
Okay, now you knew what he was saying.
Your heart jumped into your throat as he handed the weapon to Salim. He held the large hunk of metal, eyes drifting to the hovering helicopter, before arguing with Dar once more. After a sharp reply, he sighed, aiming the weapon.
Now your heart was really jumping into your throat, and you stumbled forward a few steps.
“Salim,” you warned from behind, and you saw his hands twitch. He sat unmoving, making no indication of pulling the trigger. You could practically hear his brain racing. Should he shoot?
Unfortunately, he didn’t get to choose, as Dar snatched the weapon away, giving Salim a hard look before pointing and shooting the RPG.
You watched in horror as the helicopter blew up in flames, spiralling out of control with stray bullets flying. You ducked down, covering your head, and the ground shook as the machine finally crashed. With a heavy heart, you thought of the passengers - a crash like that, surely nobody survived.
You heard shouts from below as the soldiers all began firing. The air filled with the heavy cracking of bullets, and you could only watch as your comrades fell, with red spraying out everywhere. Your heart was racing and the world slowed down to a stop. People were dying in front of you, and you were frozen, too afraid to move.
The air was knocked out of your lungs as Salim tackled you out of the way, just in time for the cliff to blow up in smoke. The ground shook as you landed, and the Lieutenant snapped his fingers in your face a few times.
“I need you here! We’re charging down, come on!” he called, snapping you out of your daze. With his help, you scrambled back to your feet. “Stick close!”
You followed the Lieutenant as he charged down the cliff, slipping on the loose stones under your feet. You jumped, landing hard on your feet and sprinting to the closest object for cover.
Peeking over the stone, you saw tens of figures running around. A mix of uniforms were scattered across the grounds, with some laying dead in their own blood. Your heart ached as you watched more soldiers fall, from both sides.
Snap out of this, you’re a medic! Get out and help those people!
You caught Salim’s eye briefly, he was standing behind cover, arguing again with Dar. As you surveyed the area, you saw someone on the ground, writhing around and clutching at their stomach. His camouflage-patterned uniform was slowly bleeding red, and you ran out without thinking.
Shouting rang out over the constant gunfire, as you kept yourself low to the ground. You could see the man more clearly now, his glasses were slipping off his face and his hands were stained with his own blood. Your stomach dropped, and a fierce need to save the man washed through you.
An explosion rang out beside you, knocking you back from the force. You heard a harsh cry, turning your head to see one of your comrades hitting the ground, missing vital pieces of his body.
You were going to be sick.
Your ears were ringing as you sat up, looking back to the first man. As you looked up, you saw another man in a similar uniform running towards him. You watched as he rolled, lifting his injured comrade onto his shoulders. As they ran away, you scrambled back to the nearest cover, failure running cold through your veins.
You just hoped the man would make it.
As you hid behind cover, your senses were thrown into overdrive. The screams, explosions and gunshots were blending into one blaring noise that rattled your brain. Everywhere you looked, you saw blood staining the dirt.
Your heart clenched. This wasn’t where you were supposed to be. You’d never even been in the middle of a firefight before. You wanted to pass out. You wanted to throw up. You wanted to be able to help just one person.
You froze as a figure jumped out a few feet from you. His back was to you, and you watched as he pointed his rifle at a shepherd. You couldn’t hear what he said over the sounds of war, but you sat frozen, watching as the shepherd turned and ran away. Your heart clenched.
The man shook his head, dropping his rifle, and you let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Your relief lasted all of three seconds, and your eyes widened again as Salim stepped up behind the American soldier, his rifle pointed at the man’s back. He froze, his own gun falling completely from aim, his free hand clenching into a fist, before opening. You watched the man give up, accepting his impending death.
No.
You weren’t in control of your body, as you leapt away from cover and straight into Salim’s line of fire, your palms raised up. He startled, stiffening as he pointed the gun away from you.
“Stop!” you called, and Salim flinched. There were tears pooling in the corners of your eyes, and you shook your head. “Enough killing people! Put your gun down! Didn’t you see him spare that shepherd?!” You were absolutely frantic.
Salim took in your desperate gaze for a moment, before lowering his weapon.
“No more killing,” he muttered. You breathed out a sigh, lowering your own hands and turning to face the other man. He was already facing you, and as you made eye contact with him your heart skipped.
He was panting, his shoulders trembling slightly. You could see the emotions swirling behind his eyes, as he stared back at you, completely unguarded for just a short moment. You could see the fear, the relief and the disbelief as he took in your uniform. You’d kick yourself for it after, but the first thought that rang through your mind was that he was beautiful.
And then the ground started shaking. You stumbled, waving your arms in an attempt to regain your balance. Hearing a shout from behind, you turned and watched, horrified as the ground opened up, and Salim fell through.
You stumbled back a few steps, your back crashing into the other man, and he grunted, unconsciously grabbing your arms for balance. Suddenly, there was nothing but thin air underneath your feet, and the two of you cried out as you fell down below the surface.
—
You hit the ground - hard - coughing as the air was forced out of your lungs. Every bone in your body ached from the impact, and you rolled over onto your back. You laid for a long moment, gasping for air, until the pain faded into a dull ache, and you were finally able to take a full breath.
You heard a low groan from the other side of the room, and you lifted your head, craning your neck to search for the source. You watched as the American soldier from earlier stood up, shaking his head and fixing his baseball cap. You pushed yourself up into a seated position.
“Are you okay?” you called out to the man, and he stiffened, raising his rifle and pointing it at you. With a start you raised your arms. “Jesus Christ!”
“Who the fuck are you?!” he demanded stepping a few paces closer to you. You cursed, your heart skipping multiple beats as you looked down the barrel of his gun, into his dark eyes. His guard was fully up, you noticed. You couldn’t see what was going on behind his gaze anymore.
“I’m (Name)! I’m a medic!” you answered, raising your hands just a little bit higher, hoping he would notice your clear disinterest in playing any tricks. Through your fear, you couldn’t help the spark of anger flickering in your chest. You had just defended this man - an enemy soldier as far as you were concerned - from a comrade, something that was more than just frowned upon. And he had the audacity to point his gun right back at you?
You noticed his hands twitch, his gun lowering by just millimetres. His gaze was still hard, his lips pulled into a frown. “What the fuck was that up there?” he asked, jerking the rifle up to the surface. “Why would you step between me and that other guy?”
“Despite what my uniform might make you think, I’m not actually interested in hurting anyone,” you replied with a hard edge in your tone. This man, as beautiful as he was, was starting to piss you off. You clearly took him by surprise, as he pulled his head back, raising an eyebrow.
His rifle unconsciously fell lower, while you maintained eye contact. You weren’t backing down from the man.
“I stepped in the way because you seemed like a good person. A lot of other soldiers wouldn’t have let that shepherd go.” You watched as his eyes flickered with recognition. “Now, I have no interest in hurting you, I just want to get the fuck out of here. Would you mind lowering the gun so we can get going on that?”
He hesitated, his brows furrowing as he met your hard stare. It was baffling to him how your attitude had gone on a complete 180. After a long moment he huffed, dropping his gun. He watched you push yourself to your feet, and you took a few unsteady steps before steeling your gaze on the tunnel ahead.
“Thanks,” you offered, gesturing for him to lead the way.
“No. You go first. I’m not leaving my back open to you.” Another spark of anger flared in you, and you gave him a glare. With a sigh, you carried on ahead into the dark tunnel, your only source of light came from the man’s rifle.
“Jason!” a voice echoed through the tunnel, bouncing off the walls and halting you in your tracks. Who?
“Nick?” the man called out from behind you.
“Jason! I’m close man, I’m coming!” You couldn’t help but snort at the unintentional meaning behind the sentence. You weren’t the only one to notice, as the man behind you snickered to himself, and a small smile made its way onto your face.
“Don’t blow your load too fast buddy!” he said with a chuckle, and you risked a look back, catching a grin on his face. As he met your gaze, he cleared his throat, his smile faltering as he regained his composure, choosing to push ahead of you.
“So your name is Jason, hmm?” you teased. “I like it.” You couldn’t see his face, but you smirked as you saw the tips of his ears burn red.
As the two of you exited the tunnel into a large room, you stopped in your tracks. You both took a quick glance at the massive statue in front of you, before the sound of footsteps grabbed your attention.
You noticed Jason’s grip tighten on his rifle, before relaxing again as he caught sight of another man. “That you Nick?” he called, and you glanced over his shoulder.
You recognized the man as he made his way to you, his bucket hat sparking recognition in your mind. He had been the soldier who grabbed the guy with the glasses earlier. As his gaze fell to you, he stiffened up. “Hey - I saw you up there! You were running at Joey!” he said, and Jason whipped around to you, his gaze hard and accusatory.
“What were you tryna do with-”
“Yes! Is he alright? Did he make it?” you cut Jason off, standing on your toes to look behind the men, hoping you would find his friend. Nick looked taken aback for a moment. “I’m a medic,” you clarified. He nodded, before grief overtook his eyes and his head fell.
“No,” he stated, his voice flat. “He got hit too bad. Died in my arms.” Your heart dropped, grief overwhelming your mind for a moment.
“Aw no, not Joey,” Jason breathed out, defeated as his gaze hit the floor. You stepped up to rest a hand on Nick’s shoulder, hiding the surprise you felt when he didn’t brush you off.
“I’m sorry, I was really hoping he would be okay.” Nick looked up to you, curiosity defeating the pain in his expression.
“Why?”
A sudden cry interrupted your conversation, and the two men stiffened.
“That’s Merwin!” Jason shouted, before rushing across the room to a large door. “Help me get this door open!” You rushed to follow the two, dread settling in the bottom of your stomach. By the time you reached the door, they’d already wrenched it open, and were sprinting into the room. As you took in the sight, your heart damn near stopped.
A man was hanging upside down from what looked to be barbed wire, blood dripping from every surface you could see. He was screaming in pain as another woman attempted to quiet him. You watched as Jason skidded to a stop, looking just as horrified as you felt.
He shook his head after a moment, ordering Nick to hold Merwin in place while he cut the poor man down. You stayed a few paces back - your brain raging in an internal battle. You wanted so desperately to get in there, to help the man, but you just knew it would cause another argument, something he didn’t have the time to endure through. Merwin fell to the ground with a cry, and the two others crouched over his body.
“He’s fucked. He’s so fucked,” Jason mumbled under his breath, and your heart went out to the man. He was trying so hard not to crack under pressure.
Fuck it, this man needs help.
You stepped forward, resting your palm on Jason’s shoulder blade, choosing to ignore the way he stiffened.
“Let me see,” you offered, with a gentle firmness in your voice. The man looked back, giving you a dangerous glare, which you returned. “I’m not going to hurt him.”
After a long staring contest, Merwin coughed out his opinion, “Just let her through, holy shit.” Jason reluctantly stepped back, allowing you space to rush in. You brushed against his side as you took his place, ignoring the sparks that flew all up your arm. This was not the time.
You peeled away Merwin’s tattered uniform, analyzing the deep cuts along his torso. Shit, he really was fucked.
“I need morphine, now!” you ordered.
“There’s some in my pack,” Nick offered, his voice strained and scared.
“Good! Fish it out while I work on bandages!”
Jason rushed behind Nick, digging into his backpack. You pulled off the jacket of your uniform, and Jason’s gaze flashed briefly at the exposed skin of your arms, and the top of your chest, now clad in a simple black tank top. He shook his head. This was not the time.
You wrapped your jacket around Merwin’s torso, a poor attempt at covering his wounds, but you needed to buy enough time to dig around for your bandages, with him bleeding out that quickly. You ordered Nick to place pressure at certain spots, turning to search for the proper bandages, now that there was at least some barrier to soak up the bleeding.
“Jesus who the hell loaded these packs,” Jason mumbled, and you glanced up at him for a moment. He was frantically digging through Nick’s bag, his shoulders stiff and stressed. You spared a glance to the woman and-
“Fuck!” you yelled, as she was yanked into the darkness. Jason and Nick both flinched, and the former took a few steps around, raising his rifle and aiming it where she once stood.
“Clarice?” he called, only to jump back as an ear piercing screech answered him. The three of you leapt into action, you and Nick grabbing Merwin and dragging him away. You grimaced as he cried out, clearly in pain.
“Stop! Stop, he’s bleeding out! We have to take care of this!” you called, and Nick sighed, helping you lean him up against a wall. You looked to Jason, his eyes wild and his grip tight on the rifle. “Keep watch.” His eyes flickered to yours, and he nodded briefly.
You spun around, digging through Nick’s bag and fishing out the morphine injector. You were vaguely aware of him talking Merwin down, as you crouched down next to him, grabbing for the wounded man’s trembling leg. He let out another pained cry.
“Keep it in man,” Nick said, covering Merwin’s mouth with his hand. As you held his leg steady, you could feel him jerking around, desperately fighting for breath.
“Nick, you need to let him breathe,” you warned, cracking open the packaging before aiming and sticking the morphine in his leg. You threw the case to the side, focusing on the bleeding man before you.
Nick still had Merwin’s mouth covered, and you could see his face adopting a purple hue.
“Nick! You’re killing him man!” Jason called, wrenching his hand off the man’s mouth. You let out your own breath as you watched Merwin gulp in air, before succumbing to unconsciousness. “Morphine’s kicked in,” he muttered, before hoisting the man up and over his shoulders. Nick shook his head, snapping the dazed look out of his eyes.
“Alright, let’s get the fuck out of here,” you stated, reaching to unholster your own pistol. You looked to Nick. “Is it alright with you two if I carry my weapon? For self defense?” You couldn’t keep the slight sarcasm out of your tone - you were going to carry it anyway. Nick gave you a once over before nodding.
You ran after the two marines, deep into another tunnel. You pressed forward, ignoring the incessant screeching behind you, and shouting for the men to keep going. You were panting, running without looking back until Nick fell to the ground beside you.
With a yell, you turned to help him up, stumbling as you caught a flash of movement back in the darkness. Nick whipped around, obviously he caught sight of it too, and you yelped as a creature like you’d never seen before emerged, standing up and stretching out on a large pillar of stone.
“Oh SHIT!” you cried, aiming and letting bullets fly at the thing, with Nick following suit. Jason made a noise of protest behind you, followed by a curse as the creature caught his attention. After your gunshots did little to dissuade the beast, Nick gave up, lowering his gun and turning to start running again.
“Let’s go!”
You followed suit, pure fear propelling your legs forward. Hearing the screams of those creatures behind you only steeled your resolve, and you pushed yourself harder than you ever had before. You continued to sprint, eyes stuck on Jason’s back as he ran ahead, until you all reached a fork in the road.
“Fuck, which way?” Jason muttered. You could hear the strain in his voice, running around with a full grown man on his shoulders was sure to have been exhausting. He panted, eyes flickering between the two directions.
“That way! It’s quicker” Nick pointed to a short tunnel, barred in with debris.
“He won’t make it!” You knew Jason was talking about Merwin, the man was barely hanging on to life as it was, and you didn’t want to think about what jostling him around a bunch of debris would do. “The other way’s safer,” he concluded, and you nodded.
“Okay, I can go first,” you offered, running ahead. You skidded to a stop as a set of claws filled your vision, falling back against a large rock. The other two marines followed, leaning Merwin up against the wall. Your breathing accelerated, as you heard a sharp clicking noise ring through the heavy air.
Suddenly a hand was over your mouth, and you glanced up to see Jason, his gaze hard, as he tugged you closer to him.
“Quiet,” he whispered in your ear, and you swore your breathing stopped. Your chest was tight with fear, hearing the creatures move just on the other side of your cover, yet you were also hyper aware of the marine’s breath fanning on your ear, as his free hand brushed against your wrist. You shut your eyes, choosing to focus on that sense, the feeling of skin on skin contact.
And then Merwin coughed, and your heart stopped.
And then Merwin screamed, and Jason stiffened next to you.
When you turned, you watched, horrified as Merwins body cracked. His form was disfigured as he was pulled through an opening much too small for his body. You let out a cry, as the two marines jumped in, reaching for him. Their efforts were futile, as his body finally gave in with a sickening crack, disappearing into the darkness.
“Fuck! He’s gone!” Jason cried, jumping away from the crevice as blood - a lot of it - seeped out from it. You squeezed your eyes shut, the image burning itself into your brain, before you scrambled up onto your feet, following Jason as he ran to the end of the hallway.
Just as you reached the next tunnel entrance, a sharp cry caught you off guard, and you whipped your head around, seeing Jason on his back, one of the bat-like creatures above him. He screamed as it swiped down, tearing into his outstretched arm.
You don’t know what it was that propelled you forward, but the next thing you knew, you were in front of the beast, kicking it across the face and knocking it off the marine. You offered your hand to help him up, and he recoiled.
“Jesus Christ Jason! Do I look like I’m trying to hurt you?! Get your ass up NOW!” Jason startled, snapping out of his daze before finally accepting your hand. You pulled him up with all your might, pushing him forward as he stumbled. “GO!” you cried, narrowly missing another swipe from the monster as it regained its balance.
Nick was a few paces ahead at this point, and you brought up the rear, tearing through yet another hallway. As the screaming gradually began to fade, you didn’t let up, not until you saw the tunnels end and open up into a bright room.
“HELP!” A scream sent your heart back into overdrive, and you saw a look of recognition flash behind Nick’s eyes.
“Shit, that’s the Colonel!” he called, taking off after the voice. Jason panted, gesturing you to follow him as he jogged further into the room, raising his rifle and aiming it at the tunnel you’d just emerged from. He craned his neck back enough to ensure Nick reached the Colonel, before shifting his focus back to guarding the group.
“Thank you, for saving my ass back there,” he grunted, his gaze flicking back to you. You’re not sure why your heart swelled so much, your breath escaping your lungs for what felt like the thousandth time that evening. You offered him a small smile.
“No need to thank me,” you muttered. You and Jason maintained some awkward eye contact, before his gaze fell down, taking in your entire form. You unconsciously pulled your tank top up, noticing the pink tint that grew on his cheeks. You smiled to yourself as the marine looked away, his gaze hardening again as he fell back into guard-mode.
You barely paid attention to the arguing between Nick and the Colonel, also keeping your wary gaze on the dark tunnel. Your spine chilled and you shivered as you thought about what was lurking in the darkness.
“Alright, we gotta move,” Jason piped up, interrupting the conversation behind him. You turned to look at the other two, noting that the Colonel hadn’t even noticed your presence yet. Clearly, Jason noticed their hesitation, as he piped up again. “Colonel, we’re sittin’ ducks out here!” he said again - louder this time - as he walked past them, towards a pair of large doors. You followed suit, making eye contact with Nick.
The last man stumbled along with you three, his eyes glazed over, unseeing. He followed you all the way up and into the temple, before he finally noticed you, and your uniform.
“Wait, what the fuck is a Republican Guard doing in here?” he demanded, automatically reaching for his rifle. You jumped, raising your hands as a surrender, until both Nick and Jason stood in front of you.
“Right now Colonel, the Iraqis are the least of our problems,” Jason warned, and the man raised an eyebrow. “We’re under attack by - I don’t even know what, and I was there,” he admitted. The man gave you a hard glare, before turning his attention back to Jason.
“What are you talking about?”
“Do you believe in God?” Jason asked, and the Colonel looked taken aback.
“Absolutely not.”
“Well, start believin’” Jason held up his arm, torn and bleeding, and the blond’s face paled.
“Monsters,” Nick muttered, and he met the man’s gaze, as it turned incredulous.
“Monsters? Are you delirious? You guys are jumping at shadows! Hell, you’re even co-operating with an enemy soldier!” Your heart fell at his words, and for once, you let them get to you. This man had stared at Jason’s injury, and then completely invalidating it, spun the blame onto you simply because of the uniform you were wearing.
You noticed Jason’s eyes flicker to you before they hardened. He stepped up to the Colonel, making himself seem much taller than he really was.
“Then how do you explain these gashes on my arm? Could they have done that?” he asked, motioning to you with a threatening edge to his voice. You were shocked. Even in the moments where you were on the receiving end of his threats, you’d never seen this much authority come from the marine. You felt a flicker of… something, you couldn’t explain it, as you watched Jason defend you, struggling to reign in his anger.
The blond man opened his mouth to protest, only to jump as the lights in the hall fell dark. You reached for your gun, aiming out into the darkness with the other marines, craning your ears for the dreadful clicking noises to return.
When they didn’t, you relaxed slightly, and Nick stepped forward.
“Generator must have busted,” he said, his gaze drifting over to Jason, and the blood seeping out of his wound. “Eric, you come with me to check it out. Jason, stay here and let…” he trailed off, his eyes widening. “Shit I don’t even know your name.”
“(Name),” you couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Right, sorry. Jason, let (Name) patch up that wound before it gets infected.” You couldn’t help but notice the icy edge in Nick’s tone, and the resentment in his eyes as he looked back to Eric. Obviously there were tensions between everyone in this group.
A tense silence followed, before Jason and Eric both agreed, albeit rather reluctantly. Nick nodded, turning to offer Jason a fist bump and an Oorah, before him and Eric left the temple, closing the doors behind them.
There was another awkward silence as you and Jason stood across from each other. You fiddled with your hands, and he fiddled with his gun. The silence grew heavier with each passing second, and you opened and closed your mouth a few times, unsure of what to say. Was he going to yell at you? Try to shoot you if you got too close?
Jason hissed in pain as he moved his arm a certain way, and you sighed, finally breaking the silence.
“Alright, we both know this is awkward but can we just suck it up like adults and get this over with,” you sighed, and he snapped his head up to meet your gaze. Nodding silently, he allowed you to guide him over to a fallen piece of stone, sitting down and holding up his arm for you to view. You squinted. “Goddammit, I can’t see a thing.”
Jason reached up, pulling his earpiece out of his ear, before holding it up to you. You looked at him, puzzled, before recognizing the attached flashlight on the device. As you reached to take the light, he pulled it back slightly, and you tilted your head up to meet his gaze. His face was much closer than you were expecting, close enough that you could feel his breath.
“You hear anything, I mean anything, tell me,” he warned, and you nodded. He allowed you to take the device, and you settled it over the shell of your ear. The light was a godsend.
You rummaged through your bag, pulling out a collection of bandage wraps and disinfectant. As you looked over his wound, you sighed with relief.
“It’s not bad, but deep enough to leave a scar,” you informed the man, and he grunted. You prepared the disinfectant. “This is going to hurt, but I assume you already knew that.” You just barely heard him chuckle, before he hissed again as you began cleaning his wound.
“Fuck, I’ll never get used to it,” he muttered, and you hummed, focusing on his arm as you methodically cleaned away the dried chunks of blood and dirt. He was trying to suppress his flinching, his hand falling to your hip out of instinct, squeezing it as he tried to manage the pain. Your face heated up, and your heart skipped a beat.
“What are you gonna do when we get out of here?” you asked, mainly to distract him, even though a small part of you was curious. He hummed, thinking to himself for a moment.
“Probably just go for a drink,” he answered. “What about you?”
“I’m not sure, I was planning on taking a long bath before all of this, so maybe I’ll just do that,” you chuckled, and you heard his breath hitch. Risking a glance up to his face, you saw his eyes dart to the side as his cheeks turned pink.
Why did the thought of you in a towel, in the bath, without any clothes on, jump to the front of his mind? And why did he like it?
As you moved onto bandaging his arm, taking extra care not to pull at the torn skin too much, Jason piped up again. “How did you get involved in all this? You seem like you’ve got your head screwed on right, why would you choose this?” You sighed.
“I didn’t ask for it. I was a nurse, working emergency, until suddenly I was an army medic. It wasn’t really a choice for me,” you admitted with a sigh. “I don’t want to be a part of people fighting each other.” After a moment, Jason let out a heavy breath.
“I’m sorry. For how I treated you earlier. You didn’t deserve that.” he apologized, his voice low and quiet. “And I never thanked you for savin’ me from getting’ shot either.” Your heart fluttered, an alarming amount of emotion flaring up into your chest. You smiled.
“It’s okay.”
Jason remained silent as you continued to work with the bandages. You let your fingers brush against his skin, more than really necessary. There was just something about the warmth his skin provided, the sparks it sent firing up your arms. His breathing grew shallow, and you spared a quick glance, noticing the red tint on his cheeks. His face was so close to yours.
You finished off, cutting the bandaid and securing it good and tight - you knew he would need that, if you were going to be running around like this for the rest of the night. You nodded.
“Done.”
Jason accepted his earpiece back, and you thanked him. He nodded, thanking you as well, before he secured the device back in its rightful place. You leaned back, taking in his posture. His eyes were distant, off to the side. A small frown was etched onto his face, and your eyebrows furrowed.
You reached forward, wiping some dirt off his face, just below his bottom lip. His breath hitched and his hand caught your wrist. You tensed, meeting his gaze head on. You realized with a sharp inhale that his guard had fallen again. You could see the fear behind his eyes, the pain and the… lust, as he gazed back at you. The two of you were silent for a moment, frozen, when suddenly he surged forward and crashed his lips onto yours.
The kiss was long, hungry and feral. Based on your uniforms, It was wrong, you knew, but it just felt so right. His hands were all over your arms, your back, before one came up to tangle itself in your hair, pulling your head in closer to deepen the kiss even further. Your fingers dug into his vest, as you pulled him even closer, forcing as much contact between the two of you as possible.
He stood without breaking the kiss, backing you up against a nearby pillar. You broke with a gasp as your back hit the solid piece of stone, a wave of heat rushing through your entire being. Jason gave you just a second to catch your breath, before diving back into your lips, reaching to hike your leg up over his waist.
You let out a low groan as he pressed himself even further into you, a slight grind in his hips as he continued to kiss you silly. He tugged at your bottom lip with his teeth, pulling away and leaving you breathless as he moved to press his tongue against your neck.
You jumped as the lights snapped back on, startling the two of you out of your moment. You were both panting, your chests still touching as his grip on you tightened. He met your gaze, his pupils blown wide and his cap pushed up on his head.
“What the fuck was that,” you gasped out gesturing between the two of you, and his lips twitched upwards
“I got no fuckin’ clue, but I wanna find out, soon.” He gave you a heated glance, and your chest tightened. You couldn’t help the stupid grin that made its way onto your face as he leaned forward to press one more heated kiss against your lips, drawing a low groan from you, before he pulled away, releasing your leg and helping you back up away from the pillar.
You watched him adjust his hat, his shirt sleeves, and finally, his pants, before he collected his rifle from the ground, looking back to you, with a new expression in his eyes. It was softer, more inviting, and you found it sent butterflies through your stomach.
“Let’s go check on the others,” he said, waiting for you to catch up. “Stick close to me, okay?” You smiled, stepping up to him and nodding.
“So does this mean the enemy of your enemy is more than a friend?”

“Hey, are you Sam Wilson?” You question, standing on the man's front doorstep. He frowns his eyebrows, crosses his arms, and sizes you up. You know you don’t look like much, but your mother always said that looks were deceiving. “Can I come in?”
“And who are you?” He asks, standing tall in the doorway.
“She’s backup,” Natasha states, coming into view. You instantly send a smile her way. “We can trust her,” She reassures him. Sam presses his lips together but nods and moves to let you in.
“You look good... All things considered,” You compliment her. She looked like her naturally beautiful self with only a couple of scratches and bruises on her skin.
“It’s been a rough few days,” Natasha tells you. “We could use your help,” You smirk and cock your head to the side.
“That’s what I’m here for. Where’s Cap?” Once the question leaves your lips, the golden boy comes into the room. “Heard you were in a tight spot,” You state when he looks at you with arched eyebrows. His eyes move from you to Natasha, who gives an innocent shrug.
“We could use her help,” Natasha states. “We can trust her,” She vouches. Steve looks hesitant but nods before giving you a polite smile.
“Rough few days, huh?” You mutter, looking at Natasha, sensing that her words were a bit of an understatement. “What exactly are we up against?”
Natasha and Steve both begin to fill you and Sam in on what’s been going on. You weren’t surprised Shield had been compromised. You didn’t trust anybody outside your small group. You preferred being on your own in a secluded area.
However, Natasha is one of the select few that has your complete trust. Therefore, when she called, saying she needed help, you came without hesitation.
“So, the question is: who in Shield could launch a domestic missile strike?” Natasha questions.
“Pierce,” Steve realizes.
“Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world,” Natasha sighs.
“But he’s not working alone. Zola’s algorithm was on the Lemurian Star,”
“So was Jasper Sitwell,”
“So, the real question is: how do the two most wanted people in Washington kidnap a Shield officer in broad daylight?”
“The answer is: you don’t,” Sam states, dropping a military file on the table. Natasha pulls it toward her.
“What’s this?”
“Call it a resume,”
“Is this Bakhmala? The Khalid Khandil mission, that was you,” Natasha states. “You didn’t say he was a para-rescue,” She mumbles, looking at Steve.
“Is this Riley?” He asks, and Sam nods.
“I heard they couldn’t bring in the choppers because of the RPGs. What did you use, a stealth chute?”
“No. These,” Sam corrects Natasha. Steve flips through the file.
“I thought you said you were a pilot,”
“I never said pilot,” Sam smirks with a hint of smugness. It’s enough to get you grinning. You decide that you like him.
“I can’t ask you to do this, Sam. You got out for a good reason,”
“Dude, Captain America needs my help. There’s no better reason to get back in,”
“So, where can we get one of those?” You wonder, peaking at the pictures. “I don’t think Walmart has those in stock,”
“The last one is at Fort Meade,” Sam answers, an amused grin on his lips. “Behind three guarded gates and a twelve-inch steel wall,”
“Shouldn’t be a problem,” Steve assures him.
“I’m assuming you have a plan?” You ask, Steve. “Or is this a wing-it kind of mission?” Natasha grins a bit before they start laying out the plan.
Your part of the plan was to keep them from dying, basically. Nobody knew that you were involved. You were to stay in the background and only intervene if needed. Knowing Natasha, you would need to step in sooner rather than later.
You watched them from a distance. You smirked when you saw Sam flying around with his wings. They were a cool contraption; you weren’t going to lie.
Borrowing someone’s car, you followed them from a distance. You watched for anyone suspicious. Everything seemed normal until someone caught your eye.
This, someone, was dressed in black, but he stood out from everything around you. Like everyone else who had yet to meet the one they’re destined to be with, the world is dull and colorless. Only after meeting and accepting your soulmate could you see the world the way it’s supposed to be seen, full of color.
So, while his attire is completely black, his pale skin and silver arm stand out. You knew this was the man, The Winter Soldier, that Natasha and Steve had warned you about. You knew you should have warned them, but you were frozen by the revelation.
When he leaped from the car he was on and onto the one with your friends, you snapped out of your daze. Cursing, you sped up to try and get to them, but by the time you were able to weave around traffic and catch up, their car had crashed.
“Some backup you are, Y/n,” You mutter to yourself. You slam on the breaks and put the car in park before climbing out. You race down the highway and toward the men shooting at Natasha and Sam.
You stop a few paces away from the shooters and begin to conjure fog to cover their escape. Before long, Natasha can get away, and the attention is on you instead of Sam.
Able to see through your fog clearly, your search for your soulmate. When you find him, you send a powerful gust of wind in his direction. The force sends him flying back and through a car. You wince, but at least he’s not within the fog’s grasp any longer.
You move around as bullets come flying your way. You had given up your position, but it had been necessary. Once you find a safer place to stand, you begin to manipulate the fog once more. Your breath is now visible as the air around you drops rapidly in temperature.
To add to the cold, you begin to make the air thinner in their area. You see them shivering, and some drop to the ground due to the lack of oxygen.
In the corner of your eye, you notice one of the men had escaped the fog’s perimeter. He aims his gun at you but forces the fog to become thicker as you slip into its protective cover. Within the fog, you notice that more than one man has escaped.
You huff in annoyance, but at least you have eliminated a couple of the problem people. You see a few people standing at the edge of the highway shooting down where you assume Natasha, Steve, and Sam are.
Before you deal with them, you turn to the one that continues to hunt you just outside of the fog. Giving him an annoyed glare, one he doesn’t see, you point your hand at him. Like Palpatine, you release streams of lightning from your fingertips.
The man screams in pain and drops to the floor. You continue your ministrations until his screams stop. By then, however, the fog has dissipated, allowing the others to see you. Their guns turn to you, but before you can defend yourself, a stream of bullets lodge into their heads.
Your eyes snap to the source and notice the Soldier standing there. You both stare at each other before he stalks to the edge of the bridge and jobs down to the lower level. You race to the edge to watch him stomp off a crushed car and continue onward as nothing happened.
“Oh, no, you’re not getting away that easily,” You mutter. Lifting your hands, you manipulate the air around yourself. It lifts you off the ground and gently sets you down beside the car the Soldier had crushed when he landed.
You run in the direction the Soldier had gone. You see him locked in a fight with Steve. It looks like Cap finally met his match.
A groan catches your attention. Your breath catches in your throat. You jog over to Natasha and inspect her bullet wound.
“This is gonna hurt,” You warn her. She looks at you before closing her eyes. When she nods, you place your hands on either side of her wounded shoulder. You conjure enough heat to cauterize the wound.
“I hate it when you do that,” She mumbles. You smile at her.
“Well, stop getting shot, and I won’t have to do it,” You wink at her. “You’ll be alright,” You assure her before standing up. You turn back toward the Soldier and Steve. For the first time, you see him without his mask.
“Who the hell is Bucky?” He asks Steve before aiming a pistol at Steve. Your breath hitches again when Sam comes in and kicks the Soldier away from Steve. When he regains his footing, you notice Natasha aiming a grenade launcher at him.
“No!” You shout, shoving Natasha, forcing her to miss her target. When you look back, you notice the Soldier is gone. Before you can react, a collar is locked around your neck, preventing your mutation from working.
“It was him... He looked right at me like he didn’t even know me,” Steve mutters.
“How’s that even possible? It was like 70 years ago,” Sam states as Natasha stares at you intently. You avoid her gaze and continue to stare at Steve, wanting to know as much about him as possible.
“Zola. Bucky’s whole unit was captured n ‘43, Zola experimented on him. Whatever he did helped Bucky survive the fall. They must have found him and...”
“None of that's your fault, Steve,” Natasha assures him.
Even when I had nothing, I had Bucky,” Steve whispers.
Great, my soulmate is a ninety-something supersoldier that’s in Hydra. You think sarcastically. Although, if he doesn’t even know who he is, how can he willingly work for Hydra? He protected me from his own men. Hydra soldiers don’t do that. There’s hope for him.
“Oh, you’re on our side?” You ask when one of the masked persons beats the sit out of the other two. “Oh, hey Maria,” You greet when she takes her helmet off.
“Ah, that thing was squeezing my brain... Who’s this guy?”
After making the grand escape, you’re all lead towards a hideout. There you find Nick Fury, who’s apparently not dead. After an argument on how to go about things, you prepare to take on Shield/Hydra once again.
“Are you going to tell me what’s going on, or am I going to have to start guessing?” Natasha questions. You glance up at her before looking back down at your feet.
“You’re smart, Nat... I’m sure you’ve already figured it out,” You whispers. Natasha doesn’t say anything for a minute. She then comes toward you and sits down.
“Can you stop him?” Nat asks. You meet her look.
“If I can... You won’t be seeing me for a while,” You tell her. She sends you a small smile.
“Do what you have to do... Just be careful,” She advises. You smile, bumping your shoulder with hers.
“You’re the one who should be careful... Once I find him, I’m going to get him to leave with me. You’ll be in the fight the whole time,” You remind her.
“I’ll be fine,’ Natasha whispers. “Just get him and go,” You smile and slowly nod.
With those words said, the two of you leave the room. You approach Shield with Steve and Sam. The two of them go their separate ways while you start your search for the Solider... For Bucky.
During your search, you take down as many Hydra agents as possible. You wanted to help the cause, but finding Bucky was more important.
It wasn’t long before you were officially labeled a major threat. This meant that their focus shifted toward you. Things were slowly getting out of hand, but you continue to literally take the air from their lungs and the warmth from their bodies until they died. You offered a foggy cover for the Shield agents that were your allies while shooting your enemies down with bolts of lightning.
When you began to get surrounded, someone came to your aid. He had found you before you found him. He didn’t waste ammo—a single bullet to the head of those around you.
You two shared another look. Instead of looking into sunglasses, this time, you were looking in his eyes. Everything around him would continue to be black and white until he accepted you. You wondered if he could see in color. Despite not knowing him and him working for Hydra, you accepted him. You wanted him. You hoped that he would trust you.
You got lost in the beautiful color of his eyes that you forgot what was happening around you. When he moved to leave you and continue with his mission, you shouted his name. He froze, and you moved a few steps closer.
“Look at me... please,” You whisper to him. He remains motionless. “Your name is Bucky. You were friends with Steve Rogers,” His head turns slightly to you. “I don’t know what’s happened to you, nor do I know what you’ve been through, but I can tell you that things don’t have to be like this. You don’t have to be their weapon, their machine,” You risk a few steps closer to him. “I’m your soulmate. I will never hurt you. I only want you to be happy... To keep you safe,”
He stays still for a moment. He’s so still it’s as if he’s a statue. Then, he moves forward as if the words you just said didn’t matter to him. They probably didn’t. You weren’t going to give up that easily.
“Bucky,” You say again, latching your hand around his wrist. He whips around and wraps your throat in his metallic hand. You tense but don’t move. He’s not cutting off your air; it’s a warning. Your free hand lifts and covers his metal wrist. I won’t hurt you... and I won’t ever let them hurt you again,” You promise him. “Who cares about what’s going on here? It’s not our fight,” You tell him. “Come with me,”
“They’ll find us,” He whispers. You smile brightly.
“They’ve been looking for me for over a decade and haven’t come close,” You tell him. “They couldn’t find me then, and they certainly won’t find us now,” You assure him. “Please, come with me,”
Miraculously, he listens. The two of your leave the battle fairly easily. Anybody who gets in your way ends up dead. You switch your methods between sucking the air from his lungs to overheating or sudden frostbite. Bucky, while amazed by your abilities, settles for a simple bullet to the head. You two work with each other fluently.
You both stay away from populated areas. It’s harder within the city, but once you borrow another car and head into the countryside, it gets easier. You tell Bucky to stay in the car while you quickly buy him some comfortable clothes. Then, you drive him to your home. With your abilities, it’s impossible for anybody else to find, let alone get into, your home.
There’s an intense fog almost a mile thick around your property. Within the fog are intense temperatures. Some temperatures are too high or too low for a human to survive. Outside the fog, everything is normal and up to mother nature.
“Welcome to my home,” You say before climbing out of the car. He hesitantly follows you. “Nobody can come in without my consent,” You tell him. You walk to the house before slowing and turning back to him. “If you really want to leave, let me know... You may be a super soldier, but I’d be surprised if you could survive out there,” Bucky looks at the woods. “Come on; you must be hungry,”
You and Bucky live in silence for a long time. He doesn’t want to talk, and you don’t make him. You try to fill the silence with your ramblings, but it doesn’t always work to make him relax. He has nightmares at night, during the day as well. You want to help, but it’s a complicated situation.
It doesn’t help that he continues to be the only thing in color. He hasn’t accepted you yet. It hurts, but you don’t give up on him.
It takes a month for him to start conversations. It takes him even longer to hold those conversations for more than a few seconds. At this point, he’s knows everything about you while he’s still a mystery. To be fair, he’s still a mystery to himself.
You introduce him to the internet. There he can research himself and Steve. He learns a lot, and you find him behind the screen more often than not.
Around the end of the second month, Bucky seems to be relaxing even more. He still has his nightmares, he still is trying to find himself, but at the same time, it’s like he knows he’s safe. He knows nothing can’t get to him while he’s here. Yet he still won’t let you in.
In an attempt to get him to accept you, you try to do more for him. The meals you cook get more complicated, and you try to be more romantic and supportive. He entertains you but still keeps his distance.
It isn’t until the fourth month you begin to lose hope. You’ve done everything you can to get him to accept you. You’ve given him space, you’ve set him free, you’ve protected him and supported him. You have given him clothes and home, yet still, you get nothing.
You sit on the front porch. You’re thinking through everything. You know, four months, in retrospect, isn’t that long. It’ll take years for Bucky to recover. You had just hoped that he would want you. He’s taken your help, but you wanted him to want you.
When he comes back from his midafternoon run, he pauses right before the porch. He can tell something is bothering you but hasn’t a clue what to do.
“Do you know what soulmates are?” You wonder. Bucky stares at you for a moment before slowly nodding his head. You get a bit frustrated. “Do you trust me?” He hesitates again but ultimately nods. “Do you not want me then?” You whisper. It’s subtle, but Bucky tenses. You read his posture wrong. “Alright,” You whisper, standing up.
“Wait,” He says, jumping up onto the porch. His hand grabs your wrist. You stop, look at his hand, and then up into his eyes. “You’re beautiful. You’re strong. You’re everything I could ever want,”
“Then why haven’t you accepted me?” You whisper. He sighs slowly. As if giving into a desire, he caresses your cheek with his hand.
“For decades, all I’ve known is fighting. I went from one to another. Before that, I never thought I’d see in color. Then you come out of nowhere and turn my world upside-down. As perfect as you are, that doesn’t change who I am. I’m haunted every day, and I know Hydra is hunting me. Just being here will endanger you, but I can’t find it in myself to leave. I don’t want to get to the point of no return. I don’t want you to get attached to me because one day I’ll have to leave, and I don’t know if I’ll come back,”
“That just won’t do for me,” You shake your head. “You see, Buck, I’m in this for life whether you accept me or not. If you leave, I’m just going to follow. Whether you go to Steve or Hydra or even Hell, I will follow you,” You tell him. “You distancing yourself is hurting us more than the potential of you leaving. I’m not going to let you go, Buck... You’ll realize that eventually.”
Things continued the same for a while as Bucky digested your words. Eventually, however, there was a change. It was a slow change, but it was progress nonetheless.
Bucky began to open up to you more. There were subtle touches and lingering gazes. He sat closer and spent more time with you. As the weeks passed, everything began to amplify. The subtle touches turned into handholding that eventually turned into cuddle sessions. The words exchanged turned into flirtatious whispers.
The day you could see everything in color was the day you pulled him into a kiss. You both were the happiest you’ve ever been. The kiss made you both feel as if you had been touch-starved. Neither of you could get enough of each other.
The kiss had started in the kitchen. You were making breakfast when everything turned from black and white to various vibrant colors. You whipped around to him. He had this lopsided grin on his face as he stared at you.
You marched up to him and kissed him without a second thought. He had been leaning on the wall the separated the kitchen from the living room, but he switched positions so that you were pressed between that wall and him.
“I love you,” Bucky whispers. You begin to smile even wider, your heart hammering in your chest. “You’re-”
“I love you too,” You whisper back to him before kissing him once more. Bucky smiles into the kiss and leans into you even more.
You breathe in deeply when he picks you up. He doesn’t hesitate to take you back to your room. The room he’s spent the last few nights cuddling you in. He lays you down on the bed with a tenderness that has your heart fluttering.
“I love you,” He whispers again. He would tell you that all night. He didn’t want to stop kissing you, stop touching, nor stop telling you how much you meant to him. You changed his world, and you became his world.

I have a feeling I'm either going to get Honey or a Horrortale skele, so here we go for Matchups! -🍊
Personality
-introverted
-nervous/jumpy/sensitive
-artistic/creative
-very sleepy. I stay up till 5am and sleep till 2pm.
-helpful! I like feeling needed lol.
-sensitive. I have an abusive mother im in therapy for, so I need someone soft :(
Hobbies
-im very artistic! I love drawing, painting, listening to music, even making it, anything that keeps my hands busy and my ADHD at bay.
-minecraft! I've just downloaded the game, I've had it for a year now, and I love the building in it lol. The mobs scare me tho.
-rps!!! I LOVE roleplaying!!!! Rpg games, DnD, hell, I even have a few oc based text rps on discord I'm into. It gets me SO excited when I make up little stories with my friends, the gremblin in my enjoys shiny new universes
Dislikes
-Snarky/teasing/snappy jokes, or being teased in general. I'm a sensitive person who takes a bit too much to heart. Mal and Red scare me.
-loud noises/crowded areas. Another trama trigger for me, I feel trapped in a situation and it makes me paranoid. I'd rather sit outside and watch a thunderstorm than go to a local fair.
-being pushed out of my comfort zone and/or being forced to get in contact with family I've kicked out of my life, the whole 'well family is family!' saying means jack shit to me. I've put my demons at bay, I don't want someone to push me out of my comfort zone, or else I feel sick with nerves. I don't like traveling or being around a lot of people, I'd rather just text someone than see them face to face, words come easier then. Brain weird.
Deal breakers
-anyone who forces me to be social. I have anxiety, leave me be dammit. If someone kept pushing and complaining about it, it would make me feel guilty and blegh. Let's not go down that rabbit hole.
-cheating, I have a low image of myself, I don't need someone flirting with others or being all handy with them. Once the wound it made, I'm not letting the knife near me again.
-someone who yells a lot. Loud voices, especially male ones, make me panicked and scared. If Edge ever lectured me I would simply. Cry.
-someone violent, which is a given. Sorry mafia men, but blood scares me. I'm a wheeny.
-someone forcing me to change. I'm chonky, so being forced into a diet or something would make me think low of myself, I couldn't stay with someone like that. Or someone pushing me to get anxiety meds or giving me a bedtime. I like my independence and I'm working on myself, I don't need to be pressured to do it faster.
-passive aggressiveness, it makes me confused on what to say in an argument and that junk.
Flaws
-most of these have already been said, but I'm introverted with low energy, I don't like going to big events or traveling away from home.
-sensitive. Any jokes aimed at me can and will be obsessed over to oblivion, I'm not the teasing type.
-awkward. I was kinda isolated as a kid, so social skills are hard. Don't expect me to pop up on conversations all the time, I mostly listen to what my friends say and nod along.
-hygene. This is also something I'm working on. I've had depression episodes that sometimes still surface, sometimes it's hard to even leave my bed, let along brush my teeth, hair, etc. Some days I'm just not feeling it. I also come from a neglectful house, so I wasn't even raised with those habits. But I'm trying, and that's what I'm focusing on. Don't be like 'ewEwW yOu HaVeNt BrUsHeD yOuR TeEtH tOdAy?!' That's both hurtful and annoying, life sucks man
-god aweful at spelling, sorry rat
Attraction
-someone who's soft and caring. I never had a motherly figure, and I'm too old now for my dad to watch me like a toddler, so I want to feel the love I mostly missed out on. Not babied or anything, just loved and cared for. Hug me, please. Alternatively: aha mommy kink go brr
-cuddly/affectionate. I need to feel wanted, since I was raised in a house that I wasn't, so words of reassurance are really nice, especially if that person wants to be around me close enough to cuddle
I tried making this as neat as I could, since I tend to ramble a lot, so I hope this layout is easy to read! Tell me if I need to add any physics stuff, thank you for the matchup! -🍊
Alright, you were right on probably getting a horror lol. I think the best fit for you is……..BASIL (horrorswap papyrus)!
Here’s the tricky bit. Getting to know basil is here. He’s also extremely anxious, to the point where he’s practically non-verbal to anyone he doesn’t know. But once you do get close enough for him to crush and even confess, you’ll get to see a butch more protective and attentive side to him. Basil is a protector at his core and actually prefers a timid SO unlike honey who likes confident and organized characters.
Basil would be great at balancing between encouraging you to be your best self and not being too pushy. Gentle is basically his main personality trait. And considering who it is here, it’s hard to feel nagged with him being the one giving you those gentle reminders.
You like cuddles? You’re getting your cuddles. Basil is shy about touch so it’s up to you to initiate, but when you do, you’ll find that he’s pretty much touch starved. He likes having you in his lap the most. Basil has mild insomnia so cuddling with a SO is the best way to help him doze off
Basil hasn’t been introduced to the wonderful world of video games yet. Minecraft would be a great starter! If you manage to get him into it, he’ll wind up getting addicted to sims most likely. Or FarmVille. He likes chill games
One important thing about dating basil is that your basically going to have to go vegetarian. You can eat meat outside the house when he’s not around, but the sight and taste of raw meat is a trigger for him. Luckily he’s a wonderful cook and makes up for it in his baking and pasta ;)
I was also thinking of rust and possibly slim for you. (Yes I know slim is a mafia but he’s great at keeping his work hidden)

OK, so. I just finished the quest “In Your Heart Shall Burn” and I have so many thoughts I just really need to put them somewhere alkfjaskd
Expect this post to be very unorganized and emotional xD
Alright. So, from a purely technical standpoint, this is not the best game I have ever played. There are many glitches here and there, both in the game mechanic and in the visual (though one could argue that they aren’t too annoying and kind of add to the game’s charme in their own way). But damn if this isn’t literaly the best game I have ever played alkdjfasl
I’ve put in nearly 40 hours of gameplay by now and it still feels very much like things are just getting started. There is so fucking much to see, do explore, experience. Even the smallest maps feel huge. There is so much dialog and cutscenes with your companions and advisors. Every single character feels so lovingly designed and thought through and fleshed out. Even those you only talk to once and then move on have beautiful designes, unique voices and characters that shine through.
The one trillion tiny side quests can seem a bit annyoing or overwhelming at times xD But they are still a nice way to be incentivised to explore the maps and a neat way to kill time as you wait for war table operations to finish (though, bless whoever decided to make them run in real time and not in game time aldfjkasld). And damn if the scenery isn’t fucking worth every second of exploring you get to do. I have said this before, but this has got to be one of the most beautiful games I’ve had the pleasure of laying eyes on so far. Granted I am not exactly a hardcore gamer but I’ve played my bit and to me, this is just mind-boggling.
And, oh gods, the main quests. Holy sh*t, really. I am completely blown away. The beauty. The story. The length of the cutscenes. It’s like watching an actual move. But it never gets annoying or seems like it is swallowing the game up, because there still is so much actual game around them. They are so emotional and beautifully done. I am like 20% through the main story arch rn (so I’ve been told) and damn if this story isn’t f*cking amazing.
And there are a lot of other things aside from the story itself, that make this game so amazing. Usually, a lot of games in their design, their characters and their stories are very much aimed at straight men. Which is not to say that they cannot be enjoyable also, but. This game is very much different and I can’t even begin to say how emotional this has me. The entire series so far has been so lovely about representation and everything, adding so many canonically bi characters already. But not only does DAI have two canonically gay characters (one gay, one lesbian, as you do :D), it also offers: Two bi characters, one of them a BDSM tinted romance experience, a possibly autistic or otherwise neurodivergent character, a canonically trans character (let that sink in for a second please. In a fantasy setting. In a huge game of this margin). The latter is not one of the companions, but he plays a decent role and I absolutely love him. All of these characters are created with so much depth and care and respect (as I have already mentioned) and each romance option comes with its own, unique flavor.
Not to mention how much love and detail the game mechanics themselves have to offer. Like, for example, someone had to come up with those quadrillion little side quests xD Those mind-boggling maps had to be designed. But you can also, craft your own weapons, your own armor, chose armor and weapons for all of your companions. There are so many different designs for armor and weapons. Each companion has their own stile you can chose to further cultivate or stray from. Armour can be modified and upgraded in a way that visually changes it. It can be tintet! In five different ways (metal parts, leather parts, cloth parths, some of those devided into two supparts). There are so many ways you can create unique looks. Your Inquisitor has an entire wardrobe of different formal and casual wears just for when you are strolling around the whole as keep you will eventually acquire. (which I just did and my mind is blown. I have been running around in it for like half an hour and I still haven’t seen all of it. bloody hell). There are like five (or more) categories of mounds you can get and all of them are so cool. You can customize your fucking castle. I repeat YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE YOUR F*CKING CASTLE. You can choose the windows, the courtains, the beds, the tapestries and so on. Like, never have I played an RPG that offers this level of an experience. And you know what the best part of all of this is? The thing that in this day and age feels almost mind-blowing? None of those features cost you any extra money. They are all just included in the game. (I mean they do cost you gold xD But you cannot buy gold, you need to collect it in the game, that’s it).
It’s just, the amount of love that was so clearly put into this game, a game made for a community of people that is clearly not the usual sell... man. I don’t know. I’m just feeling a lot of things right now xD I needed to digest that a bit and now it is everyone’s problem haha. Anyway. Back to fun little reaction posts now xD
Also, I took a handful of screenshots earlier and I will make another post with them the next time I start up my PC (am on Laptop right now, easier to think). If you actually stuck around to read all of this, I apologize for my ramblings and thank you. Please know that I love and appreciate you xD

Chapter 15
Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist

“HYDRA doesn’t like leaks,” Sitwell continued to talk and try to plead his case as they drove down the freeway, heading back towards the Triskellion.
“So why don’t you try sticking a cork in it,” Sam finally snapped.
“Insight’s launching in sixteen hours, we’re cutting it a little bit close here.” Nat stuck her head between the two front seats from where she was sat in the middle of the back row.
“We can use him to bypass the DNA scans.” Steve informed her, clearly having already thought it through. “That way we can access the Helicarriers directly.” "What?! Are you crazy?! That is a terrible, terrible idea-” Sitwell began to protest but was cut off, his screams dying as he was pulled out of the car and thrown into oncoming traffic just as a sixteen-wheeler was going past. Katie let out a scream at the same time as Sam yelled out a loud curse, as a bullet ripped into the seat inches from Katie’s leg.
“Move!” Natasha yelled at Steve as she clambered through the middle of the two seat and onto his lap pulling him down away from the next bullet which was meant for him. As they all looked up, heavy footsteps pounding on the roof, in a bout of quick thinking, Steve pulled on the handbrake and the person on the roof dropped down onto the street. All four of them in the car watched as he rolled and rolled and used his metal arm to slow his momentum before standing up. He was tall, well built, long dark hair whipping around his masked face.
“It’s him.” Natasha’s voice was nothing but a whisper. “The Winter Soldier.”
Katie aimed her gun through the windscreen, taking aim, when they were violently hit from behind causing Katie’s usual dead shot to ricochet off the side of the man’s arm instead of his head. The car behind pushed them closer and closer to him until he was able to leap back onto the roof as Nat searched for her gun and Katie aimed hers upwards. Suddenly, a metal hand smashed through the windshield and pulled out the steering wheel from Sam’s hand.
“Shit!” Sam yelled. Natasha, after having found her gun, started shooting through the room but the Winter Soldier jumped onto the jeep behind their car that had started erratically pushing theirs along the road.
“Katie…!” Steve yelled, gesturing for her to climb into the front. “Hang on!”
She scrambled over the central gap between the front seats as Steve broke open the door with his shield pushed up against it, holding onto them all as best he could as the car began to flip. They dropped from the car onto the door as well as the shield and slid roughly along the street. Sam lost his grip and slipped away but luckily he only tumbled a few metres away mostly unharmed.
The three of them that remained hanging onto the shield quickly stood once they had come to a complete stop, the jeep that had caused the crash stopping as well, men all fully armed climbing out and one of them handing the Winter Soldier a grenade launcher, which he immediately used. Steve pushed Katie and Natasha out of the way and took the full force of the grenade with his shield which sent him flying over the bridge, just as the Winter Soldier reloaded and began firing at the rest of them.
They quickly dove for cover behind a car and together moved along the bridge, car by car, Natasha and Katie shooting back at the soldiers with their hand guns. Katie tossed one of her spare pistols to Sam who caught it, and started firing as well. This was working at keeping the advancing HYDRA operatives at bay reasonably well, until they were forced to the edge of the bridge and the Winter Soldier shot another grenade at them.
There was nothing for it, they had to jump. Nat had her anchor so she leapt off, grabbing Katie’s hand as she shot up at the concrete of the bridge. They landed a bit heavier than normal, Katie rolling a few feet over the concrete but she was soon back on her feet and running behind Natasha under the bridge. Nat skidded to a halt as they reached the other end, the shadow of the Winter Soldier visible on the ground in front of them. They shared a quick glance and with a nod they split up, Katie veering left, Natasha veering right.
With a deep breath, Katie stepped out from the shelter of the bridge, took aim and shot her gun up at the Soldier and she saw his head jerk back, and then he removed his glasses. She had hit where she had aimed but it hadn’t done as much damage as she had hoped. Ducking back under the bridge she carried on running and at this point she could hear machine gun fireand paused as she turned to see the fire trained onto a bus. Steve emerged from the end of it, rolling and picking up his shield and adding to the fray, Sam was firing at hostiles as well from his vantage point above.
“Go, I got this…”He yelled and Steve set off running once more.
Katie turned and looked across the way, the Winter Soldier was stalking between abandoned vehicles, presumably looking for them. She shadowed him, remaining a good distance away, as he rolled something under a car. Next thing she knew, there was an explosion and Nat had vaulted onto his back, attempting to tackle him that way. Katie sprinted towards her, and then slid across the floor, kicking at the back of his knee, making him stumble slightly but nothing more. She jumped up just as he flipped Natasha over onto her back and aimed a shot at him causing him to leap off somewhere to his right. Katie spun round, her gun aimed ready, looking for him but he was nowhere to be seen.
She started to sprint over towards Natasha, yelling at the screaming members of the public to get out of the way as she went, when she felt a searing pain in her shoulder. She gave a scream, stumbled, and dropped to her knees putting a hand to the wound. She backed up against a car, breathing hard looking around again when a thump from behind her had her turning to see that the Winter Soldier had hopped onto the hood of the car behind the one she was leaning on, gun aimed straight at her head.
Steve had heard that scream and he spun round to see Katie was pressed up against a car, her hand on her left shoulder, her eyes fearful. As he turned to sprint towards her, the Winter Soldier hopped up onto the car behind, taking aim with his gun. In desperation, Steve launched his shield with a loud grunt and it knocked the metal armed man off the car. With practiced ease the assassin landed on his feet and made to shoot again but Steve was right there, on him, launching a knee to his chest. The Winter Soldier stumbled slightly, before he cocked his head to one side, threw his gun away and advanced on Steve. The two began to fight, furiously, Steve blocking the swipes the assassin took at him with a dagger, slamming him into cars with his shield.
Toe to toe they went, the fight was furious. Each landing blows which would under normal circumstances dispatch an opponent with ease, but here, they were equally matched. The man was just as strong as Steve and The Captain realised that whoever he was, he had to be enhanced.
As the fight was raging between the two men, Natasha reached Katie’s side and dropped to her knees, ripping off her jacket and covered Katie’s wound with it in an attempt to stem the blood flow. "Alright, c'mon.” She coaxed, wrapping her arm over her shoulders. “Get up.”
She helped Katie to her feet, and the injured woman looked back in time to see the Winter Soldier launch himself at Steve. Steve managed to grab him under his chin, propelling him straight over the top of him in a huge arc, causing his mask to clatter to the ground right before the dark haired man landed gracefully on his feet. Steve stood up, waiting to see the face of the man who was causing them so much goddamned trouble, but when the guy turned round, he felt his heart stop.
Katie frowned as she saw Steve stood stock still, staring at the now unmasked Winter Soldier who looked oddly familiar. It took her a moment, but then she realised, he was familiar because she’d seen him before. His hair was longer, and he looked a little more ragged round the edges, but it was him.
Steve took a deep breath, his heart stopping as he looked into the man’s grey eyes.
“Bucky?” He gasped, frowning.
“Who the hell’s Bucky?” The man said. Steve paused, it sounded like him. It looked like him. It was him, but in the same way it wasn’t.
What had Hydra done?
Bucky seemed to be thinking about something, before he shook his head slightly and aimed at Steve with his last remaining gun, but before he could shoot, Sam swooped down, his wings once again attached to his back, and kicked him away but he didn’t stay down for long.
Katie looked around, and noticed that there was an RPG on the floor, she nodded towards it and Natasha picked it up, and aimed a well fired grenade over Steve’s head, forcing him to duck. It exploded where the Winter Soldier had stood, bringing the fight to an end.
Steve turned and looked as Katie stumbled and slumped against the van, struggling to stay on her feet. It was then that black MPVs and jeeps surrounded them, and the former STRIKE teams piled out.
“Drop the Shield, Captain! Get down on your knees! Get on your knees! Now! Get down! Get down!” Rumlow shouted out the orders. Steve did as he was told and placed his shield on the ground while holding his hands up defensively, not once taking his eyes off Katie, as she screamed in pain as a hand sharply grabbed her shoulder, pressing down on the injury. She was hauled forwards, stumbling, her hands roughly snapped in cuffs in front of her.
Steve started to struggle but a gun was pressed into the back of his head causing him to stop. He didn’t listen to what they were saying, he was too busy trying to make sure Katie was okay, and then there was Bucky. As he stood up and was shoved forward, he was directed towards an SUV, followed by Nat and Sam. He turned to see Katie fall as she was shoved forwards before being wrenched roughly back to her feet by Rumlow who grabbed her hair harshly, forcing her head back. He grinned as he leant down, his mouth inches from her ear.
“Of all the times I dreamed of getting you in handcuffs…” He laughed, loud enough for Steve to hear. The soldier let out a growl in his throat as Katie bared her teeth at Rumlow.
“Fuck you.” She spat.
“Maybe I will, not like you can do anything about it, not now.”
“I warned you what would happen if you touched my girl again.” Steve snarled as with a huge wrench he snapped the cuffs that were pinning his arms behind his back and kicked out at the soldier that was stood at the side of the SUV. He advanced towards Rumlow, who almost lazily pulled a pistol from his belt and held the barrel against Katie’s head.
“One more move Rogers and I’ll blow her pretty little head off.”
Steve stopped dead, swallowing, his eyes blazing as he looked at Katie, her face was contorted in pain from the shot in her shoulder. She fixed her eyes on his, gave a slight shake of her head, and Steve took a deep breath and looked back at Rumlow.
“In the van.” Rumlow instructed.
And Steve knew he had no choice. With a last look at his girl he turned, bowing his head slightly, swallowing down the feelings of fear and inadequacy that were washing over him. Once inside, a pair of masked agents shoved him down, one giving him a harsh dig to his stomach, knocking the wind out of him as they clamped his feet in strong shackles to the side of the van, locking his hands together in equally strong restraints in his lap.
Rumlow just laughed and threw Katie into the SUV, unceremoniously. She staggered to a seat as the doors swung shut behind them and the van started up, beginning to move only moments later.
Steve’s heart was in his mouth as he saw the extent to which his girl was hurt, the left side of her denim jacket was soaked with blood. She lay her head back against the seat and took a deep breath letting out a moan.
“Baby.” Steve spoke, making sure his voice was calm “Come on, talk to me, sweetheart.”
“You know,” she opened one eye. “I’m going to get one of my childhood friends shoot you, see how you like it.”
Steve took a deep breath, glad she was still able to make jokes, but also comforted by the fact she’d recognised Bucky too, and he wasn’t going totally crazy.
“Childhood friend?” Sam frowned. “You mean that dude, Robocop? You know him?”
“Bucky.” Katie whispered, looking at Sam “Steve’s Riley…”
“He was my best friend. One of the Commandos during the War.” Steve took a deep breath, looking at his feet.
“What?” Natasha questioned. “I mean, are you sure?”
“It was him.” Steve assured her. “And he looked right at me like he didn’t even know me.”
“How is that even possible?” Sam asked in disbelief. “That was like, seventy years ago.”
“Zola,” Steve immediately answered. “Bucky’s unit was captured back in Forty-Three’. Zola experimented on him. Whatever he did helped Bucky survive the fall. They must have found him and…”
“None of that’s your fault, Steve,” Katie sighed gently as she grit her teeth through the pain in her shoulder. She was starting to feel a little light headed.
“Even when I had nothing, I had Bucky.” Steve swallowed, before he heard Katie taking a deep breath through her nose, and suddenly, he was jerked back to the here and now. His girl needed help.
“We need a doctor here!” Sam’s voice sounded out, beating him to it as she once again rest her head back against the seat, her eyes fluttering shut.
“I think I need to sleep.” She muttered, softly and Steve instantly leaned forward, speaking in his Captain’s voice in a hope it would jerk her out of it.
“Stay awake. Eyes on me, Doll”
“If we don’t put pressure on that wound, she’s gonna bleed out here in the truck…” Sam cut off and Steve turned to see why, watching with an open mouth when he saw the guard on the left whip out an electric rod, before flipping it and electrocuting the other guard before kicking and knocking them unconscious.
"That thing was squeezing my brain.” Maria Hill complained as she pried the helmet off.
“Nice of you to show up.” Katie groaned, “I only called you like what, twelve hours ago.”
“Who’s this guy?” Hill asked, ignoring Katie and nodding to Sam.
"Sam Wilson.” Steve quickly introduced him, happy to see a friendly face. “Sam this is Maria. She’s on our side.” He added and Sam nods accepting Steve’s word as Hill took out a set of keys and began to unlock their restraints.
Steve was by Katie’s side as soon as he was free. Taking the keys off Maria he undid her cuffs and as soon as they were off, she moved, crying out in pain.
“It’s okay.” Steve soothed her, as the truck stopped. “We’ll get you fixed up, Honey, I promise.”
“We gotta’ get moving, Cap.” Hill shuffled to the middle of the van. “Stand back”
What the device was, Steve had no idea, but he didn’t care. It blazed through the SUV floor with ease and he turned to see Katie had now passed out. Giving a groan of frustration, he gently picked her up, and Maria dropped herself out of the SUV, then Natasha, then Sam who Steve passed his girl to gently. Once they were free they dodged down an alley and into another waiting SUV. Sam gently placed Katie on one of the seats, Hill passing Steve a spare jacket so that he could place it over the wound, applying pressure.
“We need to lay her flat.” Sam instructed, as the SUV sped forward. “It’ll help stop the flow.”
With Sam’s, help Natasha managed to manoeuvre Katie so she was lay with her head on Steve’s lap. She murmured something and with his spare hand he gently carded his fingers through her hair, leaning down to press a kiss to her temple.
“We’re not far out Cap.” Maria looked at him “Bout twenty mins or so. I’ll call ahead to medical, make sure they’re prepped”
He nodded and leaned back, lost in his thoughts. Bucky, Katie, Bucky, Katie… like a mantra it kept repeating in his head. Sam and Natasha were busy asking Maria questions, and he vaguely caught her answers-there was a secret SHIELD base outside town, no HYDRA didn’t know, yes she was sure, yes she knew about insight and yes it needed to be stopped.
After what felt like the longest twenty minutes of Steve’s life, they drew up to a stop outside what looked like a huge dam of sorts built into the side of a hill, and Steve stood, easily picking Katie up into his arms, following Maria’s direction. They entered the large concrete doors into a brightly lit corridor and Maria shouted to someone who was running towards them dressed in a white coat.
“GSW. She’s lost at least a pint!”
“Maybe two,” Sam added.
At that, Steve felt Katie stir in his arms and he glanced down to see her blinking, her eyes screwed against the light.
“Where…” She grimaced slightly at the pain both in her head and her shoulder. Fuck, she had no idea where she was or what had happened, other than she had clearly passed out.
“We’re safe.” Steve pressed his lips to her forehead, relieved to hear her voice even if she did sound like she was in agony.
“Let me take her.” The doctor ran forward, gesturing with his hands.
“No,” Steve shook his head firmly, his grip on Katie tightening slightly. “Show me where to put her.”
“They’ll want to see him first” Maria looked at the doctor who nodded and gestured for Steve to follow him.
“Who?” Katie asked, blinking.
No one answered and they were led to a room at the back of the facility where Hill pushed aside the plastic divider to where a very much alive Nick Fury was sat up in a bed.
Steve felt his mouth drop open as Fury remarked. “About damn time.”
The doctor came in behind them and gestured for Steve to place Katie into a seat so he could start working on her wound. He did so gently, his hand sliding into her hair once more as he placed a kiss onto the crown of her head, not moving far from her, his hand gently resting on her good shoulder.
“I’m sorry, but this is gonna sting a bit Miss Stark.” The doctor apologised in advance, and she nodded, hissing as he injected the local anaesthetic into the wound, and her spare hand reached up to grip Steve’s.
“You okay?” He crouched down beside her and she turned to look at him.
“Marvellous.” She sassed. “This is the best day of my life.”
Steve chuckled, as long as she was being snarky she was okay. “You’ll be fine, won’t she doc?”
The doctor nodded. “I know it doesn’t feel like it but this is quite superficial.” He held up the bullet he had removed. “It hasn’t gone in too deep. You’ve just lost a fair bit of blood but I’m not too concerned about you, unlike him”
He gestured at Fury and Katie turned to look at him as Steve stood up doing the same.
“Lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver, and one hell of a headache.” Fury spoke.
“Don’t forget your collapsed lung,” The Doctor added.
“Let’s not forget that.” Fury chuckled. “Otherwise, I’m good.”
“They cut you open,” Natasha spoke to Fury. Her voice not accusing but hurt, “Your heart stopped.”
“Tetrodotoxin B. Slows the pulse to one beat a minute. Banner developed it for stress. Didn’t work so great for him, but we found a use for it.”
“Okay, you’re done.” The doctor gently gave Katie’s good shoulder a squeeze as he stood. Steve turned back to see Katie was now plugged up to a bag of blood. “Bit of rest and I’ll check your levels later.”
“Thanks…” She nodded, turning back to Fury.
“Any attempt on the Director’s life had to look successful.” Hill informed as Steve eyed her, remembering how defeated she had looked at the hospital when they announced Fury’s ‘death’. Either she hadn’t known at the time, or she was a damn good actor.
“Can’t kill you if you’re already dead. Besides, I wasn’t sure who to trust.” The Director admitted.
*******
“This man declined the Nobel Peace Prize. He said peace wasn’t an achievement, it was a responsibility,” Fury scoffed while throwing a picture of Alexander Pierce to the middle of the table they were all sat round once they had all finished telling each other what had happened at the various stages of the day. “See, its stuff like this that gives me trust issues.”
“We have to stop the launch,” declared Steve.
“I don’t think the Council’s accepting my calls anymore.” Fury added with a huff of a laugh, even though there was nothing funny about the situation at all.
“So what do we do?” Katie cut in.“How do we stop it?”
Hill glanced at Fury before she leaned forward in her seat to grab the case which had been sitting on the table. She clicked the locks, opened up the top and spun it round to show them what was inside- three equally sized data chips.
“Once the helicarriers reach three thousand feet, they’ll triangulate with Insight satellites, becoming fully weaponized,” Agent Hill explained, opening up a laptop. She turned it around to allow them to see a simulated concept video of what she was saying. “We need to breach those carriers and replace their targeting blades with our own. One or two won’t cut it. We need to link all three carriers for this to work, because if even one of those ships remains operational, a whole lot of people are gonna die.”
“We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is HYDRA. We have to get past them, insert these server blades. And maybe, just maybe we can salvage what’s left-” Fury started but he was cut off by Steve who harshly interrupted.
“We’re not salvaging anything.” He shook his head slowly, and he meant it. “We’re not just taking down the carriers, Nick. We’re taking down SHIELD”
“SHIELD had nothing to do with this.” Fury tried to defend his organization but there was a derisive snort which cut him short. Everyone turned in the direction from which it had been issued.
“Sorry, did I do that out loud?” Katie sat up slightly.
“You gave me this mission.” Steve turned back to Fury, shaking his head “This is how it ends. SHIELD’s been compromised. You said so yourself. HYDRA grew right under your nose and nobody noticed.“
"Why do you think we’re meeting in this cave? I noticed,” Fury waved around him as if it was somehow enough.
“How many paid the price before you did?” Steve snapped, voice still hard, as his mind turned to Bucky.
“Look, I didn’t know about Barnes.” Fury sighed sitting back in his seat.
“Even if you had, would you have told me? Or would you have compartmentalised that, too?” Steve’s tone was icy. He knew the director hadn’t been involved in whatever HYDRA had done but he couldn’t help but feel angry. He took a deep breath and when he spoke again his voice was softer but still as stern “SHIELD, Hydra…” He shook his head gently, “it all goes.”
“He’s right,” Hill finally spoke, sadness tinged her voice.
Director Fury looked at every single person in the room. He made specific eye contact with Katie who raised her eyebrows, defiantly. Natasha didn’t react at all, which in itself was enough. Then finally he looked to Sam, clearly curious as to what he thought about the whole thing.
“Don’t look at me. I do what he does, just slower,” Sam vouched. Steve couldn’t help but smirk slightly.
“Well…” Fury leaned back and let out a sigh as he looked Steve in the eye. “It looks like you’re giving the orders now, Captain.”
Whilst Steve was glad, he took no pleasure in what they were about to do. SHIELD along with Katie had been his anchor after waking up and bringing the security agency to its knees made him quite sad, especially after Peggy, Howard and Chester had been its founders. Nevertheless, it was the right thing to do, and for the next few hours formed the bones of a plan, in which each person had a different role to play.
“We’re going to have to come up with another way to disable the encryption.” Nat looked at Fury as he took a sip from a bottle of water. “Pierce will have erased all of your clearance from the Triskelion system”
“Not all of it.” Hill gave a wry smile
“What do you mean?” Katie frowned, taking the chocolate bar Steve handed to her with a smile. The Doctor was happy with her blood levels but told her to keep her sugar and energy levels high, so Steve was ensuring she ate enough by consistently passing her snacks from the pile that Hill had dumped in the middle of the table.
Fury looked at her, then to Hill, before he reached up and flipped up his eyepatch revealing his badly scarred right eye.
“I build safety switches into most things these days.” He said dryly. “There’s a scan of this eye hidden on an old inactive database one from the Nineties.”
“So if we can access that database remotely and reactivate it, then bingo.” Katie grinned, swallowing her bite of the Snickers she was chewing.
“We don’t have the capacity to do that, not from here.” Natasha sighed.
“Yes we do.” Katie looked at her as she shifted and pulled her StarkPhone from where she’d hidden it down her bra right before they’d been captured.
Steve arched an eyebrow at her, and she merely shrugged as he smiled at her resourcefulness before drawing himself up to full height.
“We only have…“ He checked the clock on the wall. "Six hours until the launch.” Steve nodded at the people who were watching him from their spots at the table. “Everyone, I suggest we get to it.”
There was a flurry of movement accompanied with the scraping of chairs as people pushed themselves away from the table, ready to put their wheels of the plan into motion.
****
“Hey JARVIS…” Katie said as she accessed the AI on one of the laptops
“Miss Stark…” JARVIS greeted.
“I got another favour to ask. I need access to one of SHIELD’s old databases from 1995.”
“Dare I ask why?”
“Dare say you can, but don’t expect me to answer”
“It might take me a little while.”
“Fast as you can J.” Katie replied simply. “We’re up against it here.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me to contact Mr Stark?”
“No, I don’t”
It took thirty minutes. Thanking JARVIS, Katie started to scroll through the database to get the name she wanted. She quickly scanned the information. Fury had hidden an alternative retina scan under the name Carol Danvers. She had no idea if that was a significant name to him or just something random, but she didn’t really care. Once she located the name, she let out a low whistle and smiled before she hit a few more buttons as Fury had instructed her and bingo, it was once more live. Her job done, she took a deep breath before standing up, closing the laptop and heading off to find Steve.
The soldier was outside, desperate for some fresh air, lost in his thoughts. To learn that Bucky had survived the fall made him feel sick, because he hadn’t gone back for him. He’d left him to the clutches of HYDRA, who had brainwashed him into becoming their assassin. He ran his hand over his tired face and leaned against the railing, watching as the first tendrils of daylight broke over the horizon.
As always he was aware of her presence before she spoke, so he wasn’t surprised when Katie asked if he was okay, and turned to face her, letting out a sight.
“Not really.” He replied, always honest to a fault where she was involved.
“You know, this is the right thing to do.” She slid between him and the barricade of the bridge so that her lower back was pressed against the rails.
“I know.” Both his hands dropped to her hips, his eyes scanning to the injury to her shoulder. “Sweetheart, I really wish you’d sit this one out”
“I can’t sit it out Steve. You know that. This is personal for me too. Besides,” she gave a small smile as she shrugged. “You need me. You need us all.”
He understood. And there was no point trying to make her stay behind, she was probably the only person on the planet that could rival him for stubbornness, well apart from maybe her brother that is. And she was right, he did need her.
“He’s going to be there.” She watched him carefully.
“I know.”
“Whoever he used to be, the guy he is now, I don’t think he’s the kind you can save, Steve. He’s the kind we need to stop.”
“I have to try” Steve looked at her, pleading with her to understand. “I can’t just give up on him.”
She did understand, she understood perfectly well, and could only imagine what he was feeling at seeing his best friend, the man he had known all through his childhood, manipulated in such a way.
“We can never give up on those we care about, we can only try our best.” She reached up to gently brush her hand against his cheek. “Just…remember that he’s not the same person he was seventy years ago.“
He raised his eyebrows up slightly. "Neither am I.” He responded matter of factly. She held eye contact with him for a moment, but she knew there was no point in trying to convince him otherwise; Bucky was his best friend. He loved him and wasn’t about to let HYDRA take him away again.
“I know.” She gave him a small smile, just before he pressed his lips to hers. She kissed him back, eagerly, the kiss grew deeper and his hands crept from her hips up to her hair, pulling her closer as he pressed against her, trapping her completely against the barrier.
Eventually, reluctantly, he pulled away laying his forehead against hers
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” She pecked his lips again before Steve pulled back and looked over her shoulder at the rising sun. Reluctantly, he took a slight step back.
“Tell the rest of ‘em to suit up, it’s time.”
In the meantime, he had his own suit to get. One which he’d been wearing the last time he took those fuckers down. And he was hoping, albeit probably in vain, that if he did encounter the Winter Soldier, it would jolt Buck’s memory about who he was.
“You gonna wear that?” She asked, gesturing to his chinos and jacket, her eyebrow raised.
Steve looked at her with a smirk. “If you’re gonna’ win a war, you’ve gotta wear a uniform.” He dropped a kiss to her head and took off at a run.
Katie smiled as she watched him knowing exactly where he was going.
*****
“Comms on six.” Hill informed as Steve, Sam and Katie jumped down from the SUV on the side of the Potomac to the Triskelion, not far from where the control operations were. Katie was holding the case that contained her suit in her right hand. She’d confessed to Sam that she’d only flown in it a few times, but Sam wasn’t too concerned and neither was Steve. Sam had promised to fly with her in tandem, and Steve trusted the man completely despite only having known him a number of days.
“Rogers, Hill.” Fury spoke in their ears “I’ll open our lines up as soon as it is safe to do so.” He paused. “Good luck.” They silently and quickly made their way down the side of the Potomac. The first task was to disrupt the coms and security surrounding the Launch Bunker so that no one would know they were arriving. A simple EMP did that.
And then, just as Steve was about to kick the door in to the main room, it opened.
The techy on the other side simply stared as he was confronted with the four of them. His eyes flickered first to Steve, then to the Katie and Mara who had their guns trained on him.
"Excuse us.” Steve shot the tech a pointed look. He immediately held his hands up and stepped aside to let them enter with a nervous, slightly scared look on his face.
They stepped inside, looking around at the remaining eight or so people in the bunker, all of whom immediately raised their hands.
“You got exactly ten seconds to get the hell outta here.” Sam looked around. They didn’t need telling twice, several of them tripping over in their scramble to the door.
“Bit dramatic don’t you think?” Katie teased, as Sam shrugged, a grin spreading across his face as she dropped her case to the floor. Steve gently pushed past her towards the desk.
“Which one is it?” Steve was looking for the coms button which would project his voice around the Triskellion. Maria pointed to one of the buttons and mics on the desk in front of her, where she was sat, tapping at the computer.
Steve looked at Katie and licked his lips, somewhat nervously. He had given speeches before, but none like this.
“If there’s anyone that can make people understand it’s you.” Katie encouraged, and he nodded, taking a deep breath, before pushing the button, his voice suddenly amplifying as it filled every speaker in the building.
“Attention, all SHIELD agents. This is Steve Rogers. You’ve heard a lot about me over the last few days, some of you were even ordered to hunt me down. But I think it’s time you know the truth. SHIELD is not what we thought it was, it’s been taken over by Hydra. Alexander Pierce is their leader. The STRIKE and Insight crew are Hydra as well. I don’t know how many more, but I know they’re in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want: absolute control. They shot Nick Fury and it won’t end there.” he took a pause before he continued “If you launch those Helicarriers today, Hydra will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way, unless we stop them. I know I’m asking a lot, but the price of freedom is high, it always has been, and it’s a price I’m willing to pay. And if I’m the only one, then so be it. But I’m willing to bet I’m not,”
He finished and took a deep breath as Katie smiled at him and Sam looked up.
“Did you write that down first, or was it off the top of your head?” He quipped.
Steve looked at him, trying to keep his face straight, before he turned to Maria who smiled, nodding at the screen.
“Alright, I’m in.” She reached into the briefcase and handed each of them one of the new targeting chips. “Get in, switch them over, get out.”
They all nodded and Katie bent over, pressing her fingers onto the security pad on the case containing her suit. As it sprang open she stepped forward, the metal pieces connecting and flowing over her body, the dark navy and silver suit forming around her before the face plate slid down.
“That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.” Sam muttered, and Steve smiled. He’d only seen her in it once before when she had been running a test flight. Katie turned to Sam and although he couldn’t see her face, Steve knew from her tone she was grinning.
“You aint seen nothing yet, Sammy.”
The three of them made their way around the banks of the river towards the triskelion, Sam and Steve running, Katie flying behind them at a low height. Suddenly, feeling the vibrations under his feet, Steve skidded to a halt, Sam doing the same. Katie landed behind them, and looked down.
“What’s that?” She frowned as the floor vibrated below them. ”JARVIS, gimme a scan.”
“Below the Potomac river is a hangar.” JARVIS said, his voice sounding in Steve’s ear too. “And it looks like the doors are activated.” No sooner had he finished than Maria’s voice came over the coms “They’re initiating the launch”
“Clearly your speech rattled them enough to bring it forward.” Katie muttered as the three of them headed to where the ground was opening.
“Hey Cap, how do we know the good guys from the bad guys?” Sam questioned as he ran.
"If they’re shooting at you they’re bad.” Steve answered a little flippantly. With a roll of his eyes, Sam extended his wings and flew off after the highest Hellicarrier, while Steve jumped down onto the launching bay beginning to fight, Katie flying behind him, doing her best to clear out as many agents as she could
“Hey, Cap, I found those bad guys you were talking about,” Sam suddenly reported.
“You alright?” Katie asked.
“Not dead yet,” Sam answered
Together Katie and Steve fought their way across the bay, Katie clearing as much of a path for Steve as possible, before she spiralled through the air and up towards the one she had been designated. Dodging fire easily as she went thanks to JARVIS’ evasion techniques, she landed with a clang on the deck.
“I’m in.” She spoke, before a barrage of bullets ricocheted off her back. She turned, cocked her head to one side before she smirked.
“Nice try.” She smirked, firing up her palm pads and sending a huge beam their way, before shooting upwards once more towards the central control column.
“Falcon, status?” Maria demanded.
“Engaging.” Sam reported, before a moment later “Alright, I’m in…oh,shit!” he cursed.
"Eight minutes,” Maria warned
“Working on it.” Steve’s reply was punctuated by a grunt.
When Katie’s carrier was clear, which didn’t take too long as there were nowhere near as many agents on this than there seemed to have been on the other, she landed by the control panel and stepped out of her suit, chip in hand. Punching in the code Maria had given them, she swapped out the targeting disk and grinned as he pushed everything back into place.
“Alpha locked,” She reported, stepping back into her suit.
“Falcon, where are you now?” Maria asked anxiously.
“I had to take a detour!” Sam’s voice was loud. Katie took off, bursting through one of the glass windows of the Alpha carrier to see Sam spiralling through the air, being shot at by HYDRA missiles. She surged forward, shooting randomly, turning their attention to her as she twirled down towards the glass dome surrounding the next helicarrier before at the last moment pulling into a vertical climb upwards, meaning the beams hit the glass creating an entrance for Sam.
“Oh, honey you fly better than me!” Sam happily exclaimed and Katie chuckled as he dropped into the hole. A moment or two later he spoke again “Bravo locked,” and he shot back out into the bright sky.
“Alright, that’s two down. How’s it coming, Cap?” Maria questioned
“Still working on it!” Steve repeated. And he was. He had no idea how he managed to end up on the damned carrier with the most agents on it but they just kept coming and coming, like a never ending swarm of ants. He kicked out, taking another one down with a huge roundhouse kick and felt a bite of frustration as Hill urged him on.
“Better step it up Cap.” She said, then there was the sound of two gun shots before she spoke again “6 minutes”
It was then that Steve realised he was blocked in. Agents behind him and a Quinjet was aiming at him from ahead. He had no alternative but to dive off the edge of the hellicarrier.
“Hey, Sam, Sweetheart…I’m gonna need a ride,” Steve spoke easily as he fell through the air.
“Roger! Let me know when you’re ready!” Sam answered easily.
“I just did!” His voice remarkably calm for a man who was currently freefalling at a fast pace. Suddenly his arms were tugging upwards, and he was deposited back on the tarmac, Katie and Sam landing besides him.
“You know, you’re a lot heavier than you look.” Sam grunted and Katie laughed, firing at an agent that was to her left.
“Yeah, well, I had a big breakfast.” Steve responded cheekily.
Sam was about to respond when suddenly a blur of black and silver flew out from behind a crate and tackled Steve off the edge of the helicarrier.
“Steve!” Katie yelled, immediately launching to go after him but something grabbed at her foot, crunching down.
“I’m okay!” he informed her, as she kicked out wildly at whatever it was that was currently wrecking her boot.
“Right thruster is compromised.” JARVIS informed her, as the pressure was suddenly released and she looped in the air, trying to gain her balance with only one functioning boot. As she spun to look at her assailant she caught a glimpse of a metal arm grabbing at Sam’s wings, throwing him backwards.
Sam managed to stop his backwards momentum and started to shoot at him in response. Katie joined in with her repulsors and one of the weapon guns from her shoulder, the two of them forcing the Winter Solider to retreat.
“Steve?” She yelled into her comms, flying off the side unsteadily with the one boot working “JARVIS run scan!” “Captain Rogers is there by the port side”
To her relief she saw his heat signature pulling himself up at the side of the carrier. She turned, expecting to see Sam behind her but instead she saw the Winter Soldier charging forward and kicking him off the Helicarrier. Sam began to plummet, one of his wings not working so Katie dove after him, grabbed his arm and managed to land the pair of them, albeit rather un gracefully, on the roof of the Triskelion.
“Thanks” He mumbled dusting himself down off as Katie retracted her face plate
“Steve, are you okay?”
“I’m alright. I’m still on the helicarrier.” Steve responded. “Where are you?”
“Triskellion roof.” She spoke.
“I’m grounded, the suit’s down. Sorry, Cap.” Sam sighed.
“Katie?”
“One of my thrusters is out.” She sighed, “I’m running on half capacity, but I can get up to you if I need to.”
“It’s okay, I’ve got it. I’ll call if I need you.”
“Half capacity?” Sam looked at her.
“Have to channel double the power to the non-fucked boot!” She shrugged, standing on one leg to show him the now mangled piece of metal. “That or I fall. Problem is it means that the power to everything else gets compromised.” “Huh.” “Tony’s working on it.” She muttered as they looked up at the three hellicarriers, her eyes falling on the one Steve was currently on. “He’s gonna come face to face with him…”
“Maybe he can make him remember who he was.” “You don’t believe that any more than I do.” Katie observed, glancing at the Sam. He shrugged.
“Falcon, Nova…” Hill called through the comms.
“Yeah?” Katie paused, talking as she still remained with her eyes locked on Sam’s.
“Rumlow’s headed for the council.”
“I’m on it.” Sam responded, unzipping his vest and nodding to Katie. “You stay here, he might need you.”
Katie nodded, glancing back up at the sky before she wheeled round.
“Sam?” She called after him. He turned to her, jogging backward “Give Rumlow a kick in the balls for me, really hard.” Sam saluted, grinning, before he turned on his heels.
Katie’s attention turned once more to the ship above them, and after a while she realised that it had been really quiet on Steve’s end.
“Steve?” But there was no reply, nothing but static.
“I can’t reach him.” Hill sighed. “And Charlie is still not locked. We’re running out of time.“
"I’m on it.” Katie responded, taking off in the direction of the carrier.
“40% power.“ JARVIS instructed.
“Thanks J, can you run a heat scan, locate Captain Rogers.”
“Located… he is in the central area, near the control room…” JARVIS showed her the thermal image of two men going toe to toe, her stomach sinking. She surged forwards and flew through the glass of the control room just as Steve and the Winter Soldier fell over the edge of the platform they were fighting on.
They both landed hard but the Winter Soldier got up first, standing over Steve, metal arm gearing up to deliver another blow, but as he went to connect with Steve’s face, Katie blasted at him, landing in between him and Steve, sending him sprawling backwards.
“Katie…” Steve scrambled to his feet.
“Get to the control panel.” She yelled as the Winter Soldier came charging back at her “We don’t have much time!” As the metal armed assassin lunged at her she shot upwards, flipping in the air and sailing behind him, firing at his back. He flew forward but jumped immediately to his feet and spun, firing his gun at her, the bullets bouncing off her suit. They continued this twisted dance until she got a little too close, and his metal arm gripped tight around her left gauntlet, the squeal of metal on metal rang out as he began to crush down with his fingers.
“JARVIS… full power!” Katie yelled. “But Miss Stark…”
“Do it!” She fired the suped-up repulsor beams and the blast caused the winter soldier to fall hard backwards. As she wound up for another shot, she had just sent it his way only to see him pick up Steve’s shield using it to block her ray. It rebounded it straight at her, hitting the suit square in the chest and sending her straight through the glass windows of the carrier into the sky.
It took her a while to right herself, but eventually she flew back inside just as the solider stabbed Steve in the shoulder. Steve yelled, and head butted the man three times, which forced him to let go. As Steve turned to pull the knife from his shoulder Bucky made a grab for the targeting chip and Katie fired at him again, knocking him into one of the metal beams at the back of the carrier, his head making a horrible noise as it connected before he fell face down. Steve wasted no chance in grabbing the discarded chip and heading up to the control panel as she stood between him and the Winter Soldier.
“Systems are seriously compromised…” JARVIS told her. “If you continue using your repulsors the way you are, I fear you won’t have enough power to make it down…” “We’ll worry about that later J.” Katie mumbled, looked up as she watched Steve
“One minute.” Maria Hill spoke and she had barely finished when Katie heard the sound of a gunshot. She turned to see The Winter Soldier getting to his feet looking dazed but his metal arm held his gun aimed up at the control panel where Steve was still climbing. Before she could stop him, he shot again and Steve let out a yell, gripping at his thigh.
“Thirty seconds!” Maria said urgently.
As the assassin position himself and steadied his gun to take aim again, Katie flew forward, knocking into him just as he fired. He on his back as Katie stood over him, one foot on his chest, in a last ditch attempt to buy Steve a bit more time. He grabbed at the leg of her suit, pulling it from under her and she crashed to the floor, the man’s metal armed rained blow after blow down on her suit, the glass eye holes cracking.
“Suit integrity is at 50% and falling.” JARVIS urged and she did the only thing she could do. She fired her thruster causing her to shoot out from under his hold, colliding with a steel piece of the structure which send her ricocheting once more out of the side of the hellicarrier.
“Charlie locked.” She heard Steve’s strained voice as she continued to fall through the air, struggling to fire her boot back up again.
“Okay, get out of there.” Maria spoke as Katie continued to plummet, JARVIS also speaking to her saying he was trying to stabilise her tumbling.
“Fire now.” Steve demanded.
“NO!” Katie yelled as her boot suddenly kicked to life about twelve feet above the Potomac. She could hear Maria trying to argue too. But Steve wasn’t having any of it.
“Do it now.” Steve yelled.
Maria’s sigh was heavy on the coms link but she did as she was told pushing the button that started the helicarriers firing at one another. The ships began to tear each other apart and as more shots hit the one that they were on the inside began to break apart.
“Steve… STEVE!” Katie yelled hovering unsteadily, only being able to use the one thruster. She instructed JARVIS to channel more power into it to keep her upright and then Sam’s frantic voice sounded in her ear.
“Please tell me there’s someone in the air!”
“Sam! Where are you?” Nat’s voice sounded and Katie took a deep breath.
“Forty first floor!” He yelled as he got closer to the window. “Northwest corner!”
“Stay where you are!” Nat instructed as Katie shot up to find him, her boot stuttering as she went.
“Not an option!”
Her scanners picked him up and Katie spotted the helicopter Fury was flying a few floors below where it was supposed to be. She flew as fast as she could to grab Sam as he jumped out of the window of the collapsing building, catching him and tossing him into the helicopter flying in herself.
“Forty first floor!” Sam yelled as Katie retracted her helmet. “Forty first!”
“It’s not like they put the floor numbers on the outside of the building!” Fury yelled back.
“Hill, where’s Steve?” Natasha asked. “You got a location on Rogers?”
“He was on Charlie…” Katie swallowed. “The one that hit the building…”
*****
On the carrier Steve had tried to make Bucky remember, just one final time. It didn’t work. The man with Bucky’s face tackled him to the floor and he landed on his back against a fallen bar, head dangling off the edge. He was anchored by the assassin’s legs around his waist and the tight hold he had of his uniform with his flesh hand. The man looked at him, hatred etched in every line on his face and it broke Steve’s heart. What had HYDRA done to him to make him this way? They had turned his friend, his brother, against him and there was nothing he could do but try and remind him of his life before.
Then came the blows from the metal arm, raining down on his face.
With every punch that landed, along with the agony, memories flashed across Steve’s line of sight – some of them to do with Bucky, bailing him out of a fight in an alley behind a movie theatre. Punch. A Thanksgiving with the Barnes family. Punch. Games of cards in the army camp. Punch. But the ones that came more vividly were of his girl. The way her face scrunched up when she laughed. Punch. The dress she wore on their first date. Punch. The way they lay tangled up with one another after making love, her hand threading through his hair. Punch. The way she looked at him when she thought he wasn’t paying attention - like he was the best thing that ever happened to her.
He loved her. He loved her so much it hurt.
“You’re my mission!” Bucky screamed out. Steve’s vision was blurry, his face was throbbing in pain; he was beaten, he knew that. But if this was it, the last moment he had, then he wanted Bucky to know how much he meant to him.
“Then finish it.” Steve gasped out, pausing in an effort to get his breath back. “Cause I’m with you, till the end of the line.”
He could’ve sworn he saw something in the man’s face shift. His eyes became wider, like he was panicking at the phrase. The metal fist was raised up high, but didn’t move from its position. Bucky’s chest rose and fell rapidly as his eyes softened, just slightly, and the metal arm lowered out of the wind-up. But before he could do anything else, a massive piece of steel from the helicarrier broke off. It crashed against the beam that Steve was up against. And then he was falling, as Bucky managed to hang on to the beam with his metal arm, a sick, twisted reversal of the incident seventy years ago when Steve had watched as Bucky fell into the snowy canyon below.
Steve plunged into the icy water of the Potomac, the light gradually growing darker, and darker as he sank further into the depth. It was a peaceful way to die, he supposed, after the brutality of the fight. And as his vision went, the last thing he saw was his girl’s face and the fact he was leaving her behind broke him just that little bit more.
I love you. Doll, I love you.
*****
Katie engaged her helmet again and took off from the helicopter, flying alongside it for a short while as it circled the outside of the hellicarrier.
“JARVIS, you got anything?” She asked, making her way shakily forward, but as she spoke her scanners locked onto Steve, where he was lay on the floor of the carrier, the Winter Soldier raining blows upon blows down at him, and he wasn’t fighting back.
“What have we got left in the tank?” She asked desperately.
“25% power.”
“Put everything we have into my thrusters.”
“Miss Stark…”
“Just do it, J!” She yelled.
She felt the power surge as she shot upwards but as she went, her scanners trained on them both, Steve was hit by something falling from above and was sent crashing down through the floor of the carrier and then her repulsors cut out and once more she was falling.
“Emergency back-up power…” JARVIS spoke as her suit fired up again, giving her just enough time to level out before she went head first into the Potomac. She weaved her way through the falling debris under the surface avoiding it before she shot upwards again, but there was no sign of Steve or the Winter Soldier.
“Miss Stark you need to land. I can only sustain you for another sixty seconds.”
“Yeah I know.” Her voice cracked slightly “But I have to find Steve.” In desperation she circled around the river, “Any sign?” She asked into the coms.
“Nothing.” Hill sighed. “The suit he has on doesn’t have a tracker!”
“Come on.” Katie mumbled, hovering in mid-air, her suit stuttering slightly. “JARVIS hit the scans again.”
“Running…” He muttered and she watched before the display locked onto him. He was quarter of a mile or so out from the Triskellion…and the Winter Soldier was pulling him out of the water onto the river bank.
With her last bit of remaining power she flew to them, landing behind the Winter Soldier. He immediately spun round but this time Katie saw fear in his eyes. They weren’t steely or dead like they had been before, instead they sparkled with emotion. For that reason she took a deep breath and stepped out of her suit, hands held up in a conciliatory manner.
“Bucky.” She spoke gently, glancing behind him to where Steve lay motionless on the bank. She bit back the panic in her throat at the site of him hurt and unconscious before she focussed on the man in front of her.
“Who are you?” Bucky’s voice was deep and he looked at her, but he wasn’t attacking. Taking a shaky breath Katie took one step forward and he instantly grew defensive so she stopped, shaking her head.
“It’s okay, my name’s Katie. I’m Steve’s girlfriend. You know Steve, right?”
His chest heaved, his eyes widened and for a split second she thought he was going to come towards her. Instead he stood to the side letting her get a full view of her man before nodding towards her.
“Get help.” He spoke gruffly before turning and running.
“I’ve got him.” Katie spoke into her coms as she scrambled over to Steve, stumbling as she ran. “South West bank, clearing in the trees. Look for the flare.”
At that she shouted to JARVIS. “Supernova Protocol…” before she dropped to her knees next to Steve, hearing her suit shoot upwards before it exploded with a bang. Her heart stopped for a second as she looked down at her man, letting out a sob as she noticed his chest was rising and falling slowly, the only sign he was alive. His face was badly beaten, his right eye almost completely closed. There was the knife wound on his shoulder, several deep cuts to his face, but it was the gunshot wound to the middle of his abdomen that worried her most. It was bleeding heavily. She pressed one hand to the wound to stem, her other stroking his battered face…
*****
Steve realised he wasn’t dead. He felt like it, god the pain, but there was a familiar voice, a familiar touch, one heavy on his abdomen, the other stroking his sore, battered face.
“Shh…its’ okay”
It was her. He tried to speak but she shushed him.
“Baby I’m here.”
“Katie…” He opened his eyes, looking at her. Those beautiful green eyes looked back at him and he realised then, he wasn’t ready to go. He didn’t want to go, not when she was still here. The thought of leaving her behind, when they had so much to look forward to, a future together, made him start to panic. “I…”
“Shhhhh.” Katie soothed him, her hand gently brushing his sodden hair back off his face. “Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.”
He believed her.
Man he was so tired, and the pain.
And then his eyes shut.
******
Katie sat back, her hand still pressed to the wound and she glanced across the Potomac. Pieces of the helicarriers were still falling, splashing into the river, the groans and grinding of metal cut through the air as she sat still.
She had no idea how long she waited, it can’t have actually been that long, but it felt like ages as she simply sat, her hand clamped over Steve’s abdomen, listening to the sirens ringing loud through the air as emergency responders got closer.
In an odd way, it was all proof they had won. But at what cost?
Then, she heard footsteps behind her and instantly wheeled to see Fury stood barking orders to four men following him with a stretcher, but she couldn’t really hear him. She stood up, moved back, in somewhat of a daze, to allow the medics access to Steve, but once he was loaded onto the gurney she moved back to his side, taking his hand.
They emerged from the bank and another medic made to drop a blanket round her, but she shrugged him off, her hand still round Steve’s until she had to let go as they loaded him into the ambulance which was parked in the clearing near the chopper.
“He’s gonna be fine.” Sam noddedd as he appeared besides her, dropping an arm round her shoulders as she watched them anchor the stretcher in place. The paramedic inside the ambulance gestured to her, and she climbed in without so much as a glance back.

roight so i just sent a message to the main to drop jeonghwa and andy, and (hopefully) revamp sung
maybe this doesn’t necessitate explanation but brevity has never been my strong suit so i’m gonna anyway. i wanna say firstly that my changes or if i ever get to the point of leaving famed has no ill will behind it, esp to our admin who works hard as shit to give us a place to write together
the reasoning behind why i’ve made these decisions is because i love the community and want to find the path for me to stick around. i originally got on the train of thought of leaving bc tbh threading is a bitch ksjdks sounds counterintuitive to, yk, being in a rpg, but it’s what i like least about rping. i’m massive on headcanoning and shorter form interactions, and writing phat threads doesn’t pluck the muse brain like i want it to most of the time. however, managing that is a lot easier with one muse than three
and choosing to stick with sung is the most logical option. almost all of andy’s closest connections have left in the past few months, and andy isn’t the type of person that easily makes strong connections, so tis a struggle. but though andy has the least connections in famed, they’re my fave muse (don’t tell the others) so its not much of a loss. and jeonghwa,, the easiest to write threads for, but the biggest cause of stress. i worked myself into a hole where she peaked with a nations title at 22 and i didn’t have anywhere else to take her, but still had to push myself to consistently aim for every point possible in order to make the title make sense
other reasons are there, but those are the biggest reasons for why they’re poppin out of famed n why it’s,, almost a relief. i really hope my stress level can b managed more like this
as for their outerworld existence, i don’t think much would change. jhwa to me is still an it girl, eventually she’ll get hitched in secret and probably get kicked out of her company. andy’ll still go on to be a variety star n actor, eventually will become that farmer in scotland. so long as their names aren’t taken, feel free to reference them as u please
and overall, truthfully my main point of explaining this is to say i haven’t lost muse for these characters. i don’t think i’m someone who really ever loses muse. they’re as alive in my head as they were on dash, or even more so. i’d love to still talk abt them with whoever might wanna talk abt them with me
and for sung, i think he has the best chance of still having places to grow, so that’s why i’m trying to give him a solid shot with a revamp
#ooc#if u dont wanna read my novel#tldr is i havent lost muse i'd still love to chat abt the muses in dms if yall wanna

Hey! I remember a while back I read a fanfic of yours regarding twilight wings- the unofficial Raihan episode. In it their was an oc of yours, and I was wondering if you have any more? I like making oc's myself and it's fun to see other people's ideas and stories.
Hi there! You have...opened the floodgates (in a good way). I have quite a few champion OCs. I’ll focus on the various champion OCs I have since I’ve mentioned this on my blog before the champions of Pokemon remain my favorite class of characters as they have so much potential as we’ve seen with Leon in SwSh. This is going to be a somewhat long post as I have 5 champions to talk about (plus there are pics here, most of them commissions from some very talented artists that I’ve tagged as I can’t draw)

(There’s Marsha and her starter/ace Rosemary the Audino with @hayleyb100 ‘s character Richard. Thank you HayleyB for drawing this! And if you guys haven’t please check out her amazing art and stories)
I’ll start off with the OC you mentioned in your ask...Marsha (full name Marsha Miller). She’s the Alolan champion that we see in my Conviction, the Raihan twilight wings episode (also shameless plug for my fic). Like many champions she’s a mixed type trainer, but she does have a slight preference for fairy types on her team. Unlike the SM/USUM protagonist, she actually hails from Unova but her family is military (her father used to serve under Lt. Surge before becoming a lieutenant himself) and so she’s lived in Unova, Kanto, and Alola. Before she ended up becoming Alola’s champion, she was content with being head of the cheer squad at her high school while in Kanto (before her family announced moving again and she was needless to say, quite upset at the prospect of throwing away her cheer captain title). Back when she lived in Unova, she would often stop by her grandparents herbalist shop to learn about various medicinal herbs.
I hint to this a bit in my Convictions fic when Marsha asks Raihan a question about him becoming champion elsewhere, but Marsha has a huge bout of imposter syndrome from being the first ever champion of Alola as she doesn’t feel like she measures up to the legends like Red or Blue or known superstar champions like Leon and Cynthia. A lot of her character growth comes after she wins the title as she learns to work with Kukui to help build up the Alola League and make it famous. Luckily she happens to be a pretty friendly, if somewhat reserved character making it easy for her to befriend the likes of Leon and Raihan (and she also gets them to be a couple). Both Leon and Raihan give her tips they’ve learned from being in Galar to help boost the reputation of the Alola League. Back in Alola she is good friends with Mallow, Plumeria and Mina as they often visit Mallow’s restaurant to eat and catch up. She ends up being a big sister friend to Gladion, Lillie and Hau (being in her late teens when she first met the kids) as well as Iris when she meets her at the champion’s conference.
(Credit to @roseltheteacup for this amazing sugimori style artpiece of Calla. Please check out rosel’s artwork as well)
The next one is my probably my most well-developed champion OC and my version of Victor/Gloria...Calla Okoro. She’s the Sword Hero of Galar to go with Hop’s Shield Hero. Calla is a baby genius with an IQ of 162 (so she’d qualify for MENSA in the real world) and graduated college at the age of 12 with a degree in chemistry, a year before she ends up taking on the gym challenge. Her favorite type is poison and she decided that she would take on the gym challenge by using only Poison types, refusing a starter from Leon to train up her Budew and other poison types she found along the way.
Her knowledge of poison types would become very useful towards the end of the challenge and Eternatus awakening and possessing Leon , however this girl struggled so much at the beginning as the poison types she caught don’t really get good until they evolve. It was also a testament to having book knowledge of Pokemon and type advantages doesn’t equate to automatically winning a battle. She struggled especially at Kabu’s gym, resulting in her first official loss (outside of losing her second battle to Hop at Magnolia’s house due to his Rookidee being super effective against her Budew nicknamed Sabi). Calla is persistent though and patient so she worked with her team developing a killer toxic stall strategy (that helped her be the first person to take Leon down). As champion Calla uses her position to promote science and eventually goes back to school to get PhD, becoming the first Galar champion to also be a professor. When Calla is not doing Pokemon battles or giving science demos, she tends to enjoy doing backflip competitions with Gordie or rocking out at Piers’ concerts with Marnie and Hop and Bede (Bede will deny hanging out with them)
(thank you RPG Picrew, I have yet to get official commissioned work of him done)
This is Jabari Revere, my Kalos champion OC and part of the Kalos 5. I’m still working on his backstory and personality as I replay Pokemon Y (I tend to replay the games for my champion OCs to build up their teams and get a sense for the personality). Jabari is a water type champion who enjoys his days swimming in the ocean and surfing on his Mantine, nicknamed Monterey. Like Serena from the anime he is a bit at odds with his mother Grace for wanting him to take up the family tradiiton of Rhyhorn racing. However unlike anipoke!Serena, he did have a goal of training water type Pokemon with the aim of becoming a water type champion just like Wallace from Hoenn. Jabari is definitely an easy going fellow, which helps him befriend Serena, Tierno, Trevor and Shauna as well as Grant and Clemont. Unlike my Galar champion Calla, he is more willing to use Pokemon other than water types, such as when he fought Korrina at the Mega Evolution tower using the Lucario who was attracted to his aura, or when he rescued Yveltal from Team flare and let it get revenge on Lysandre
(this piece was done by @snowythesoft aka ChibiGirl! Thank you again for this and also please check out her art as well)
Yes, you’re looking at a robot. His name is Valen and is actually my first non-self insert Pokemon OC. After watching the first Pokemon movie and seeing Mewtwo be a Pokemon trainer, and also after watching the Watson computer on Jeopardy, I came up with the idea of “what if someone made a robot as a Pokemon trainer”. Hence Valen, the world champion of my version of the Pokemon World
Created by Molayne and Sophocles at the request of Red and Blue as a new fixture for the battle tree, Valen quickly began to learn from the some of the strongest trainers how to battle (with a frequent opponent being Marsha as she needed someone who could challenge her in battle). Once he figured out how to consistently beat the likes of Red, Blue and Marsha in battle...it was a wrap. Valen travelled to every known region and soon became the undisputed most powerful trainer in the world defeating every last living champion. He even took on Leon, Cynthia and Red in a triple battle and won. Despite his absolutely monstrous skill Valen is an absolute sweetheart and always compliments his opponents in battle. He also loves bowties, with his first gift being the red bowtie he sports from Sophocles do not touch or harm that bowtie if you value your life, it’s one of the few things that will actually piss off this gentle giant of a robot.
(credits to the VillainSona Picrew)
So this is my final non-self insert champion OC, His Royal Highness Jack, Duke of Stow-On-Side. In a discord server and on some messages here on tumblr, I’ve described Jack as the unholy combination of Caillou and Jack the Ripper. Jack hails from a disgraced family of aura guardians who learned that they could use their aura powers to create shadow Pokemon. 150 years prior to the main Sword and Shield story line his family managed to beat back the Hammerlocke Royal family (aka the great Raihan’s family) from Stow-On-Side and Ballonlea to claim the two towns for themselves. When Peony stepped down as champion Jack ended up taking the champion title. Now Jack is actually a legitimately powerful trainer without the need to shadowfy his Pokemon, but he does so anyway to ensure absolute control and to hopefully make his royal family the absolute rulers of Galar (his actions would years later inspire Sordward and Shieldbert, the Dukes of Motostoke). He even bribed gym leaders to be extra difficult on challengers he deemed to be a threat (so Leon, Raihan, Nessa and Sonia got hit hard with this).
Jack’s misdeeds are pretty vast. The reason why Sonia is so unconfident in her battling skills? Jack ambushed her in the wild area and destroyed her in a match while mocking her. Why does Leon have that perfect image as champion? He’s trying to build back the reputation the Galar league has after Jack nearly destroyed it’s rep on the world stage with his actions. Why are Leon and Sonia so insistent on you focusing on the gym challenge and leaving the problems to the adults? The adults during their gym challenge were either on Jack’s side or were actually useless against him and his shadow Pokemon. To quote my friends in an rp server I’m in “Jack is the absolute worst” So that’s all of the champion OCs I have. As I continue to write more fanfic will definitely see all of them pop up in various stories.
#pokemon champion#pokemon poc#pokemon OC#ask epic spheal#I love talking about my OCs so if you guys have any questions keep them coming#you have no idea how happy i was to see this question#I screamed at work in the breakroom and spent my lunch answering this lol

Silver Ceremonial Robes Translation
My translation may not be 100% accurate but it should give the general gist ;;;;
Under the cut!
EP1:
“I want to return their kindness”
Courtyard
Idia: Ahh~ I don’t wanna. Why does the magical shift tournament have to be on TV?
Idia: They show my face in some pretty shameful replays. I’d like to avoid that…
Idia: Right now is 7:00PM… The school store should just barely be open.
Idia: I’ll buy a welding mask, then tomorrow I can hide my face the entire day…!
(rustle rustle)
Idia: Hii!! S-S-Something moved--!
Silver: You there! State your name at once!
Idia: Hii?! I-I-I-I’m no one! Ah, Ahhhh, I’m not anyone suspicious…!
Idia: I-I-I-I’m Ignihyde’s I-Idia Shroud!!
Idia: So, please, put down that baton in your hand…!
Silver: Ahh… Idia-senpai. That would imply you are not anyone suspicious then.
Idia: (whisper) I-I think the one popping out of nowhere brandishing a baton is a lot more suspicious though…
Silver: Anyway, what are you doing wandering around here at this hour? Usually, you’re at your dorm eating dinner at this time right?
Idia: I-I was on my way to go buy a welding mask…
Silver: Do you need it for a mechanical engineering-related experiment?
Idia: Urgh… Well what about you, w-w-w-why are you walking around in ceremonial robes…!
Silver: These clothes are most suitable for slipping around during the twilight.
Silver: It inhibits my mobility, but due to certain circumstances I don’t have my dormitory clothes available.
Idia: Eh….Eh? Like a stealth move?
Idia: S-Silver, are you actually some sort of ninja?
Silver: Hmm…. What’s a ninja?
Idia: They’re rumored to come from a far East country. They are people who conduct covert actions, intelligence assessment, and other dirty work.
Idia: Have you never heard of shuriken or fire jutsus before?
Idia: It’s a popular theme for anime and in games their jobs are on-par with that of samurai!
Silver: Idia-senpai… You’re suddenly talkative.
Idia: Ah… Sorry ‘bout my otaku rambling…
Silver: I understand you explanation… But unfortunately I’m not this ‘ninja’ you speak of.
Idia: Seeing you deny that with such a straight face kinda makes me embarrassed on my part though…
Idia: Wait… Silver, what are you aiming at, wondering the courtyard at night…?
Silver: Tomorrow is the Magical Shift Tournament. The school will be open, and immoral people will be among the crowd of normal people from different countries.
Silver: Undoubtedly, assassins will take advantage of the crowds to slip in and look for any possible openings.
Silver: The safety of Malleus-sama is of the utmost priority.
Idia: That’s overreacting! Besides, Malleus has a strong high rank cheat, isn’t that overprotecting him?
Silver: I serve Malleus-sama, who will someday become king of the fairies and rule over the Valley of Thorns.
Silver: Before coming to this school, if he took one step out of the castle, he had guards with him.
Idia: Hmmmm…
Silver: If by any chance something happened to Malleus-sama, there would be diplomatic discourse
Silver: This is in no way overprotection.
Idia: W-W-What’s with this heavy scaled topic…
Idia: I’ve only heard about assassins and diplomatic discourse in games though…?
Silver: This is no game. This is our reality.
Idia: W-W-W-W-Wow…! There’s always, always been lines I wanted to try reciting during these times…!
Silver: …? If you want to say it, why not go ahead?
Idia: Nah, if you were to say it it’d probably fit but if I tried I’d probably look like some sort of wannabe.
Silver: I see… I don’t quite understand it all, but I apologize.
Silver: Well then, I will return to my station. Be careful not to get mistaken as anyone suspicious.
Silver: Currently, I, along with Sebek and Lilia-senpai are patrolling the school after all.
Idia: R-Roger… I’ll follow your example and use my stealth mode where I can. L-Later.
Silver: Yes, see you.
Silver: …I should meet with Sebek and Lilia-senpai and let them know about Idia-senpai wandering around the courtyard area.
Silver: It’ll be a huge commotion around the area if he runs into Sebek.
EP2:
Courtyard
Idia: *sigh*… Finally class is over. Really, today’s weather is too nice… It’s rough for a shut-in like me…
Idia: On days like these, I’ll quickly confine myself and return to my room and complete my daily quests.
???: ……
Idia: …Hm? Someone there?
Idia: S-S-S-S-Silver?! Why’s he collapsed in the courtyard?!
(leans in…)
Idia: Oh… maybe he’s just sleeping…? Sheesh, I was so surprised I took damage…
Idia: …Though, he’s got some good features. No doubt he’d be popular~
Idia: His face when he’s sleeping looks like that of a prince, so dazzling. There’s even small animals around him…
Idia: He seems so different now compared to the day before the Magical Shift Tournament
Idia: I was scared of getting hit with that baton too…
Idia: Now seeing him like this, I wouldn’t believe he would be the type who likes to get involved with anything.
Silver: Hm… Nn…
Idia: Hii! I-I-Is he w-waking up?!
Silver: *yawn*… I thought I sensed someone. It was you, Idia-senpai…
Idia: Y-Y-Y-Y-You got it all wrong! I wasn’t at all staring at you while you slept!
Silver: ? Please settle down a bit before you speak. Everytime we’ve met you lurch in surprise.
Idia: That reaction was more due to my anti-socialness…
Idia: B-B-B-Before you were brandishing that baton. Anyone would be shocked from that.
Silver: Now that I hear it aloud that sounds only natural… I apologize for my actions last night before the Magical Shift Tournament.
Idia: Urgh… I feel bad seeing you sit there and apologize so sincerely…
Idia: S-Silver, you’re a bit of a strange one… To have such students who are so straightforward and loyal…
Silver: …Is that so?
Idia: Y-Yeah. To go to such an extent to go on night watch for their dorm leader, the students at Ignihyde would not ever do that.
Idia: …Hwah! M-M-M-Maybe The Dorm leader Malleus at Diasomnia dorm is one to rule with an iron fist?
Idia: I-If that’s the case, I can understand. Are you forced to do stuff like the night watches?
Silver: Such acts of reign of terror is not necessary at Diasomnia dorm. Just as the other night, the night watches of are our own volitions.
Silver: I’m not sure what all goes on with the students at Ignihyde dorm but, I will do what I can for the one I’ve sworn my loyalty to.
Silver: Right now, the reason I am alive today is all because of my father and Malleus-sama.
Silver: I want to someday return their kindness towards me.
Idia: Ohhh… The expression on your face was so cool, and for an otaku like me, I could feel the passion from your tone.
Idia: I can kinda sympathize.
Silver: In addition, I prefer to avoid any trouble for Malleus if any conflict were to arise between the human land and Valley of Thorns.
Silver: My power is nothing fancy, but I want to do what I can.
Silver: I was told many times by my father to avoid any warfare growing up…
Idia: Ohh… Such profound words.
Idia: That ‘father’, he must be a strong man with a steel-like body and mind.
Silver: Yes. My father was a guard who served as a lord of the Valley of Thorns.
Silver: I’ve heard he earned the queen’s favor due to his ability to fight in battle.
Silver: At this time he is retired, but he was a warrior who has been rewarded medals due to his actions of throwing himself into battle multiple times.
Silver: I’m sure I cannot begin to imagine the harsh experiences he had…
Idia: W-What is this. This is starting to sound like an open world RPG…
Silver: Open world?
Idia: I-Internet thing. Sorry, it’s something you commoners wouldn’t understand.
Silver: No, I know about online games. My father often stays up late to play such games.
Idia: Hm?! Your father just suddenly turned degenerate?!
Silver: My father has always liked those sort of trends. Recently he’s been getting into MagiCam it seems.
Idia: E-Ehhh?! He just went from a retired strong Royal guard to crumble down from there…!
Lilia: Heeey Silver. What are you doing sauntering around there?
Lilia: You promised to accompany me after school for an uber difficult quest.
Silver: Fath… Lilia-senpai. Sorry. I’ll be there right away.
Lilia: Hm…? I was wondering who it was there, and it happens to be Idia. You two are a rare combination.
Idia: Ah, ah… L-L-L-Lilia, this is, uh…
Silver: I had dozed off here earlier and met him by chance.
Silver: Idia-senpai, see you around.
Idia: Y-yeah, see you…
Idia: …Talking with Silver about his dad was interesting.
Idia: Even though he was an honored warrior from the Valley of thorns he’s a heavy internet user and uses MagiCam lolol
Idia: If someone like him really does exist, even me, who hates people, would wanna see him with my own eyes…
Diasomnia Dorm – Hallway
Lilia: I’ve gathered materials to implement my new items. Next week is this season’s event. I’ll be so busy~
Silver: You really seem like you’re having fun when talking about those games.
Lilia: When I was a youngin we didn’t have these online games.
Lilia: Dwellers from all around the globe can cross borders for entertainment. It has become quite peaceful times.
Silver: That’s true. For you to live in a peaceful time where you can enjoy games…
Silver: We definitely must protect it.
Lilia: …Look at you talk so cheekily
Lilia: Now then, let’s ride on that sentiment there Silver and dive into my games to my heart’s content. They’ll be no sleeping tonight~
Silver: P-Please give me a break, father…

Tri-Arame: RPG Night
Primary Pairing Trio: YuuAyuSetsu Secondary Pairings: AiRina, Shizu??? Words: ~2.8k Rating: T’ish for some fantastical violence and a mildly suggestive ending Time Frame: First year of college? Maybe second? Dunno yet Story Arc: Stand Alone (for now... I may indulge more in this later)
Author’s Note: This may be my most self-indulgent chapter yet; doing a crossover of sorts with my own unpublished work and even bringing in my screennamesake. And trying a new formatting style to boot. But after Setsu’s Bond episode revealed she liked TTRPGs, I couldn’t stop thinking about this. Well, except to get sidetracked by writing two other scenes...
Anyway for those who are unfamiliar with my D&D story - read: at least 95% of my readers, probably more but that's the cap for a d20 - names may get a bit messy and confusing. Most of my OCs have a given name, family name and a call sign. And several have nicknames. I’ll give a list of who is playing who here at the start, but for a bit more information on the in-game characters, please refer to the notes in my Followup Post.
Player - Character Call Sign - Character Name Setsuna - Dungeon Master Yuu - Ryqoshay - Rebecca Bouteillevoix Ayumu - Yozakura - Hakumei Yaiba Rina - Nullsilver Luna Ai - Recipere (Rx) - Rachel Ira Xaviera Shizuku - Lady Sanguine - Vivian Sexton / Sanguine
Ryqoshay couldn’t help a smirk as she took careful aim. It didn’t matter that her bodyguard, Yozakura, was engaging her intended target in close quarters, in fact that was a boon. The girl knew her best friend’s fighting style better than anyone, so it was merely a task of picking the right moment. The bandit wouldn’t know what hit him.
Dodge. Feint. Parry. Strike. Now. She released her arrow.
“Nice! A Nat 20! Roll to confirm your crit. Perfect. Now for damage and don’t forget your bonus.”
“Yatta!” Ryqo cheered as the bandit collapsed, clutching his throat where the arrow had struck. The man was dead before he hit the ground and the raven-haired archer scampered toward the blonde ninja. “Yoza-chan! Thanks for keeping him distracted for me!” she threw herself into a tackling hug.
“Y-Yuu-chan?” Yoza stammered. “What are you doing?”
“Yuu-chan?” Ryqo cocked her head to side. “Who’s that? I’m Ryqo, remember?”
“Are you guys talking in character or OOC?”
“O-Oh… uhm, sorry Setsuna-chan… I meant Ryqo-chan.”
“Ne, Ayumu, would a super serious girl like Yozakura really use -chan?”
“Aren’t they childhood friends?”
“Well, yeah, kinda like you and me, but…”
“Honestly, are you two in or out of character?”
“Sorry, Shizuku-chan, we’re still learning our characters.”
“It’s alright. Maybe we can talk more about things after this battle is done?”
The DM cleared her throat. “Anyway, Sanguine, you’re up.”
A manic bout of laughter from nearby caught their attention.
“That’s the last of ‘em!” Lady Sanguine practically shouted as she stood over the bodies of several bandits, her two longswords coated in almost as much blood as she was herself. “Too easy! You guys are a hundred years too early to think you could defeat me. And look, your blood has barely sated my blades. Pitiful! More! I demand more bloodshed!”
“Were we not to leave at least one alive for interrogation?” Recipere made her way over to the redheaded barbarian, healing magicks already gathering around her hands.
“Woops…” Ryqo chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck with one hand, while refusing the remove the other arm from around Yoza. “I was just caught up in watching Viv-ne-chan take down all those bad guys that I didn’t want to be left out of the fun.”
“Woah, I got you, I got you, Vivian.” The blonde cleric said as the barbarian collapsed into her arms.
Vivian mumbled something unintelligible as her rage subsided and her personified bloodlust retreated into her mind.
”What’s up, Setsuna-chan?”
“Nothing, nothing. Don’t worry about it.” The DM’s giggles betrayed her words as she read something from her phone. “I’m awarding Inspiration to Vivian Sexton.”
“Thanks.” Shizuku responded with a smile. “This Vivian/Sanguine persona switching thing is turning out to be quite interesting.”
“Ne, Luna-chan!” Ryqo called over to the team’s artificer. “Was that really all of them?”
Nullsiver Luna held a finger to her lips as she stared at some device in her hand. Silence reigned in the roadside clearing for almost a full minute, the local fauna having long since been scared off by the sounds of the battle that had finally ended. Suddenly, the orange-haired girl pointed and a moment later, an anguished cry sounded from a stand of shrubs a short way into the woods. From the sky, something dived into a nearby tree while something else scampered across the road into the brush.
“Race you there, Yoza-chan.” Ryqo let go of her bodyguard and made for the bushes.
“Y… Ryqo, wait! It’s dangerous, let me go first!”
“Nope!” The archer cried happily over her shoulder. “If you wanna get there first, you gotta be faster than me!”
Yozakura couldn’t help releasing a frustrated grumble before she followed her charge. With her training, however, she easily caught up to and passed the other girl, but remained annoyed as the two approached the scene.
“What in Karla’s name are these things?!” A young man, not much older than the two girls cried, his eyes shifting rapidly among several gathered devices.
“They are my familiars.” A blue-haired artificer stepped into view.
“Wait, Rinari, wasn’t Luna’s hair orange earlier?”
“Yes.”
“Huh…”
“Itov Altiui, to me.” Nullsiver held out her arm, upon which the bird-like contraption landed and stood like a well-trained hawk. “Moxt Tonash, Weyog Kornari, maintain your positions.” She instructed the cat-like and spider-like automatons.
“Where did you come up with names like those, Rinari? I love them! You have to tell me what they mean!”
“I’m interested as well, Rina-san. I was intrigued when I read them in your character bio and would love to work something into a future campaign.”
“… I can send it to you two…”
“Thanks, Rinari!”
“Yes, thank you. Anyway, where were we?”
“Those don’t look like any familiars I’ve seen.” The bandit continued.
“I made them.” Luna responded simply.
“Well, now that we have your attention,” Rx suddenly appeared from the direction of the road, a fully healed Vivian in tow “we have a few questions for you.”
“I’m not telling you anything!” The young man practically shouted.
“Oh ho?” The redheaded barbarian grinned, slowly drawing her swords.
The bandit flinched, but otherwise remained defiant.
“We just want to know where your boss and the rest of your gang is hiding.” Ryqo spoke up.
The bandit spat towards the girl’s feet.
“Take me to your leader!” The archer demanded.
“Yuu-chan…”
“What’s the matter, Ayu-pyon? That was hilarious!”
“As amusing as that was,” the DM interjected “I’m afraid neither of your Intimidation checks were successful. Would someone else like to try their hand?”
“Like I said, I ain’t telling you guys nothing!” The bandit insisted. “The boss will kill me if I gave away our hideout’s location.”
“You realize, of course, that we’ll kill you if you don’t.” Rx stated, matter-of-factly.
The young man glanced among Vivian and Yozakura’s blades, Ryqo’s bow and the three automatons. “You guys ain’t got nothing on the boss.”
“Tell me.” The artificer began. “When you cried out earlier, was it because Weyog Kornari bit you?”
“You mean this thing?” He kicked at the spider, which dodged with ease.
“Yes.”
“What of it? It didn’t hurt much.”
Luna raised an eyebrow but did not attempt to dispute the claim. “I believe I should inform you that you have been poisoned.”
“Yeah, so?”
“You may not feel much now, but you will. Soon. Everyone reacts a little different, so you may notice some blurred vision, shortness of breath, chills, perhaps some perspiration despite the chills…” She spoke in an almost unnerving monotone as she continued to list potential symptoms of the toxin.
The bandit held a hand up and stared at its visible shaking.
“Ah. I see. That would be your nerves being attacked at the chemical level.”
The bandit suddenly convulsed.
“It will hurt. A lot.” Luna continued to explain solemnly. “Until it reaches your heart. Then it will hurt more.” She knelt beside him and held out a tiny vial for him to see. “This is the antidote. Only this can save you as I have ensured my poisons cannot be cured by magical means.”
The young man tried to reach for the vial but ended up clutching at his chest before convulsing again and curling into a fetal position.
“Tell us the location of your base of operations.”
“Alr…” The bandit began before choking off. Despite his entire body shaking now, he managed to make what appeared to be a nodding motion.
“Recipere, Lady Sanguine, please hold him.” Luna requested of her guildmates.
“Right.” Rx replied, moving forward, alongside Vivian.
Once the spasming man was secure, Luna pulled the cork from the vial and upturned it into his mouth. Within moments, his shakes began to fade until he lay still completely.
“Is he dead?” Ryqo asked, poking at his arm with the end of her bow.
Vivian delivered a quick backhand across the bandit’s face. His eyes snapped open and he gasped.
“Ready to talk now?” Ryqo leaned over the bandit with an all too cheerful grin. “If you’re really that worried about what your boss might do to you for spilling the beans, let me assure you we’ll be taking care of him as soon as you tell us where he is. Then you’ll be free to run along and join some other bad guys and we’ll meet again when some other town hires us to get rid of you. Sound like a plan? I think it sounds fun.”
The young man stared up in confusion at the archer. His gaze drifted over to Luna, then to the spider automaton and back to the artificer. With a sigh he began to reveal the location of the hideout.
“Alright, that seems like a good place to call things for the night.” Setsuna said, glancing up over the top of her DM screen. “But before I forget, Rina-chan, Nullsilver was the one to get the bandit to talk and your performance was quite chilling so I’m awarding her Inspiration.”
“Mm.” Rina confirmed with a nod.
“Rinari, that was amazing!” Ai marveled, leaning over to throw an arm around her girlfriend and pull her close. “It honestly sent shivers down my spine.” She giggled as she nuzzled the younger girl’s cheek. “Who would’ve thought you could be so evil.”
“Not evil. Just not good.”
“Rina-chan’s right.” Setsuna nodded. “You’re from a guild of mercenaries, technically none of you are good; you’re all Neutral on that scale. Sure, you’re currently contracted with a town that’s more good leaning, but you could just have easily been hired by the bandits instead.”
“Oh dear, is that the time?” Shizuku sighed as she checked her phone. She looked across the table at Ai and Rina. “We’ve missed the last trains of the night.”
“You guys can stay here if you want.” Yuu offered.
“That’s not the problem.” Shizuku lamented. “She’s not going to be happy…” She started typing something on her phone.
Ai laughed. “Just tell her to join us next time.”
“Next session would actually be the perfect time for a new player to join.” Setsuna pointed out. “We can work it into the story that you guys sent for another merc from your guild to assist in the raid of the bandit camp. And I can adjust the threat levels of the encounter as needed.”
Shizuku nodded. “I’ll be sure to ask her again…” Her phone chimed and she frowned upon checking the message. “I know I’m about to get an earful, but I’m going to call her.” She stood up.
“You can use my room.” Yuu said. “If you’re good with a couch, you can use that, otherwise Ayumu will have to help me find our guest futon.”
“Thank you, the couch will be fine.” The younger girl nodded and excused herself.
“Yuyu, you still don’t have an actual bed?” Ai asked.
“I like it.” Yuu shrugged. “Though I suppose there is one bed I prefer these days.” She pointed a thumb over her shoulder to indicate Ayumu’s bed behind her.
“Of course.” Ai turned to Setsuna. “So, does that mean we’re to take your room, Setsu?”
“Yes.” Setsuna nodded. “Everything is clean because, well…”
“Because you sleep here.” Ai chuckled.
“Y-yes…”
“Honestly, I’m surprised you all fit.”
“It’s actually quite comfortable.” Ayumu spoke up, somehow managing to sound less embarrassed than the dusting of red on her cheeks would have otherwise indicated.
“Well we’ll leave you to it, then. C’mon, Rinari.” Ai stood and took the pink-haired girl’s hand.
“Mm.” Rina affirmed, allowing herself to be led out of the room.
“Setsuna-chan!” Yuu threw herself at the raven-haired girl as soon as the door closed.
“Yuu-san? Wha…?” Though the behavior was by no means out of the ordinary, it still surprised Setsuna.
“I’m sorry!”
“Huh?”
“I spent the entire night flirting with Ayumu.”
“You mean your character flirted with hers.”
“Yeah.”
“But, that was perfectly in character? I figured you two would act that way based on the bios you gave me for them.”
“Well, yeah, but I don’t want you to feel left out.”
Upon realizing what Yuu meant, Setsuna laughed lightly. However, she stopped when she felt herself being embraced from the other side as well. “Ayumu-san?”
“Yuu-chan is right,” the redhead said softly “we don’t want you to feel left out.”
“You guys, I…”
“Hey, I know!” Yuu interrupted. “There’s a bunch of other mercs in the guild, right? Why not write up a character of your own to join in the campaign?”
“That’s a good idea.” Ayumu agreed. “I’d like to see what kind of character Setsuna-chan might play.”
“And then I could have my character flirt with Setsuna-chan’s in-game as well!” Yuu concluded.
Setsuna’s mind spun through several possibilities. But as she glanced back and forth between the faces of her two girlfriends, still snuggled in close, something snapped. “Impossible! I can’t!” She cried before a wave embarrassment washed over her from the outburst. “I mean… I…” she fumbled to explain “I have enough to do as DM running the game. It would be too distracting to try to play a character on top of that. Especially if…” She trailed off.
“Especially if…?” Yuu pressed.
“… Especially if you two were flirting with me…” Setsuna admitted sheepishly.
Yuu laughed. “Don’t worry, Setsuna-chan, it would probably be just me doing the flirting, I don’t think Ayumu knows how.”
“I do too know how to flirt.” Ayumu stated, reaching across Setsuna to punch Yuu lightly in the arm.
“Pouting isn’t flirting, it’s just cute.” Yuu pointed out in an amused tone.
“Mmph...” Ayumu puffed her cheeks.
“Case in point.”
“Ayumu-san was indeed very cute tonight with her reactions to Yuu-san.” Setsuna recalled, thankful for a moment’s respite as Yuu focused on Ayumu. “You played your characters well and were in perfect sync in battle. I’m really looking forward to our next session.”
“We did good?” Yuu blinked.
“Very much so.” Setsuna nodded. “With the exceptions of the occasional name slip and confusion about in or out of character talk, but those kinds of things happen in many games. So, honestly, if I didn’t know better, I wouldn’t have guessed this was the group’s first session together.”
“Oh…”
“Huh?”
“Well, it’s just I thought I wasn’t doing as good as the others because I never earned any Inspiration awards.” Yuu explained. “Ayumu didn’t either.”
Setsuna replayed the night’s game in her head, scouring it for memories of each award. She had recorded them in a document on her laptop, but with her girlfriends hanging off her arms, she was unable to confirm with certainty.
“I know!” Yuu suddenly spoke up, excitement in her voice. “Maybe if we get you some of your favorite snacks for next time, that will earn us a few points?”
Setsuna shook her head. “Sorry, no. Actions taken outside the game like that shouldn’t have an effect in game.”
“Maybe I can give you a massage?”
“That’s even worse.”
“Even though you love me?” Yuu cooed.
“Yuu-san, it is because I love you that I need to take extra precautions. I refuse to participate in the impropriety of playing favorites, or even giving the impression that I am. It would be unfair to the other players and jeopardize the enjoyment of everyone.”
“But is it fair to ignore her completely?” Ayumu interjected.
Had she really not awarded any Inspiration to either Yuu or Ayumu? Setsuna tried to recall again.
“Shizuku-chan was awarded Inspiration for making you laugh with inner dialogue acting.” Ayumu continued. “But Yuu-chan also made you laugh multiple times with her antics, yet…”
“Hrm…”
“Rina also earned some for her great acting and giving us all the chills. And while I don’t think Yuu-chan’s character could do the same, she certainly entertains in other ways.”
Setsuna sighed. “Perhaps I was being too cautious.” She conceded. “I’m sorry.”
“Apology accepted.” Yuu said with a smile before craning her neck so she could press a kiss against Setsuna’s cheek.
That was quick. Then again, it was Yuu. Still… “I can’t fairly grant awards via retcon, but I promise I will try to be more fair going forward. I really do want everyone to have fun with this game.”
“We are having fun.” Ayumu assured.
“It was even obvious that Rina-chan was having the time of her life.” Yuu pointed out. “And maybe Shizuku-chan can convince a sixth to join. And if Ayumu and I weren’t having fun we wouldn’t be so excited about the next session.”
Setsuna smiled. “Thank you. So long as my players are interested in continuing, I’ll do my best to DM a good game for them.”
“We know.” Yuu’s tone changed a bit. “And all that hard work deserves a reward, right Ayumu?”
Setsuna gasped as a hand slipped under her sleepshirt to push fingertips past the hem of her shorts and graze across the skin near her bellybutton.
Yuu giggled. “I think Ayumu’s getting a little impatient to issue your reward.”
Whatever Setsuna was about to say in response was cut off as Ayumu covered her mouth with her own.

26 Ways to Feel Mortal - M: Morning

Morning: (noun) The period of time between midnight and noon, especially from sunrise to sunset.
Geno stroke the small campfire to keep it alight, as Mario had instructed before falling asleep. The newly arrived Star doing his best to keep an eye on everything. In case something tried to jump them while Mario and Mallow slept. Even if the human said they would be fine.
The strange quiet was honestly unnerving. Sure, the rustling leaves, whistling wind, and nighttime creatures were easily heard. But, it was different than the quiet from his home. The roar of comets flying by. The gentle whispers of hopeful wishes as they were categorized. The contentment of hearing his fellow Stars while they worked.
Geno was used to ‘noisy’ quiet.
This was not the normal quiet he was used to.
How homesick he felt.
Sure, Geno did this to himself. Even after being warned what it meant leaving to gather the shattered pieces. He knew in order to get his home back, someone would need to go down to gather what was destroyed.
It didn’t make him feel better about his current choices. The entire situation made him feel…weird.
Geno blinked when he realized the world was growing lighter. At first panicking in thinking that he’d allowed the fire to burn out of control. When that (thankfully) was not the issue, Geno followed where the light was coming from.
He winced when his eyes landed on a bright orb of light. Using his hand to partially block it to get a better look.
The sky was a beautiful display of pastel blues, pinks, and yellows. White clouds seem to reflect said colors perfectly. The sun barely over the horizon as if slowly waking the world to a new morning with warmth it produced.
After the initial shock of the bright light, Geno took in the amazing sight before him. “Wow…”
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
The puppet jumped hearing a new voice. Turning to find Mario approaching with his hands raised. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“You’re fine. I just thought you were still asleep.”
“Probably should be,” the human said casually as he sat next to Geno.
“So…why don’t you?”
“It’s not that easy, really wish it was though. But, I woke up and decided I wanted to join you seeing the sunrise. This is your first one, right?”
“Yes.”
“Anything like this up in space?”
“No, there’s no day or night cycle up there. It’s all very…beautiful.”
Geno’s eyes were on the sunrise. Not seeing Mario’s warm smile aimed at him.
“Yeah…beautiful.”

Task #24: OOC Questions
OOC About Your Character(s)
1. What do you want to get out of playing this character(s)?
How to feel like a villain and get away with doing bad things.
2. Describe your character(s) with three words.
Narcissistic, Agonizing (to others), Dark.
3. What made you decide to write this muse?
Just wanting to write someone who is really extreme and opposite from all my other muses.
4. If you could change one event in your muse’s life (in their main or canon verse), what would you change?
Him from being born is a little harsh, so I’ll say getting love from his parents.
5. If you could tell your muse one thing, what would you tell them?
Get over yourself, please.
6. If you could give your muse one gift, what would you give them?
Probably a heart.
7. If you had to take one positive thing away from your muse, what would you take away?
The confidence.
8. If you could “borrow” one aspect of your muse and apply it to yourself or your own life, what would you borrow?
The confidence LOL.
9. Do you genuinely want your muse to be happy? What do you think would make them most happy in life?
No. Probably world domination would make him happy.
10. Do you enjoy putting your muse through angst? What do you think would break their heart the most?
It’s gonna take A LOT for Kane to go through any angst. I would like to see that happen though lol. As far as I know, there’s not really anything that can break his heart. Again, I would like to see that happen.
11. What do you love about your muse?
Him hating liars is probably one of his redeeming quality.
12. What do you hate about your muse?
Him hurting people like it’s nothing special.
13. What about your muse amuses you?
Probably thinking he’s the best when he’s really not.
14. What about your muse makes you sad?
The idea of him never being able to fully love someone.
15. How would you describe your muse to someone about to meet them, in person, for the first time?
Narcissistic jerk who only want people to listen to him and if they don’t, then it’s fun time. For him, of course.
16. Would you like your muse as a person if you met them in real life?
Absolutely not. I’m sure he won’t like me either.
17. In what ways are you better than your muse? In what ways are they better than you?
I think just being a decent person makes me better lol. On the other hand, he doesn’t need to worry about things like feelings. I don’t know if you can call that better, but it’s definitely easier.
18. Why do you think you connect to your muse?
Kane’s definitely the hardest to get into, but I think the idea of him makes it a lot easier to know how to be a better human being. Whatever I won’t do in real life, I’ll make Kane do it LOL.
19. What aspect of your muse’s personality is most important to you? What aspect of your muse’s personality do you think is most important to them? Is it the same? Why or why not?
Probably his charisma/narcissism because that’s pretty much the embodiment of him. Pretty sure it’ll be the same for him.
20. Has your character(s) changed over the time that you have been playing them? How have they changed?
I don’t know if there’s any changes for Kane really lol.
About You!
1. What is your name?
Linda
2. What is your profession?
Social Worker
3. What do you do to relax?
Watching a lot of TV or reading.
4. What is your favorite treat (desert)?
Ice cream maybe? Not too crazy about desserts.
5. Favorite movie
Battle Royale
6. Favorite book
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
7. Favorite vacation spot
Disney World
8. Favorite Disney movie
Mulan
9. How did you first get into role playing?
Came across one of those fancy rpg ads on Tumblr and the rest was history.
10. What was your first platform? If it was something other than Tumblr, what made you get into Tumblr?
Oh geez, maybe like MSN or Aim. I don’t really remember how I even got into Tumblr but it might have been through a friend.
11. What’s a grammar rule you find yourself breaking or ignoring a lot?
Probably all of them lol but mostly verb tenses.
12. Are there any languages besides English in which you think you could comfortably roleplay?
Chinese probably but I wouldn’t call myself a pro at it.
13. Do you listen to music while your write?
I’m doing that right now LOL.
14. Are you a morning, day, evening, or night writer?
Leaning toward night.
15. How does tiredness affect your writing?
Hahaha, like not even understanding what I wrote even after reading it the 3rd time? It also doesn’t help that I’m always tired nowadays.
16. What is your biggest obstacle to writing every day, if time doesn’t count?
Being able to get into character. In a sense it’s not really just writing out a paper because it’s a lot like stepping into the character’s shoes. If I don’t feel it, then it’s going to be hard to write it.
17. How many drafts is a paralyzing amount?
Oh dear, probably once it hit over 50 then I gotta lay down and think about my issues.
18. Is there anything character-wise or writing style-wise that you can’t stand?
God-modding is pretty bothersome of course. I don’t think it’s a style, but unrealistic character/plot developments does irritate me.
19. What kind of anonymous questions are your favorite?
All types of anonymous questions are my favorite. Plus, answering them in different muses is the best part. Even the hate anons can be helpful at times.
20. What is your weakest point in writing? Angst, fluff, dialogue, etc.?
Oh, easy. Definitely smut. I am down to write anything, but smut is my biggest weakness. It’s not that I won’t write it, but I’m just not good at all.

2020 Meta-Resolutions
For the first time ever this year, I decided to put some extra work into my roleplay life. For the past year (possibly more) I’ve been unhappy with various things - mostly the decline of enjoyment in a hobby that has given me a lot of joy for over a decade. I sat down at the end of last year and thought about if I should close down the blog, unsub and quit WoW, and just move on from online roleplay.
After a lot of thought, I realized that wouldn’t make me happy either. I really do love writing, and without online roleplay, I know I would make so little time for it that it would quickly disappear from my life (yes, I play RPG tabletops but we don’t write). Writing is also the only creative hobby in my life that I make daily time for - and I need creativity in my life to keep me happy.
SO! With the idea in mind that I didn’t want to pack up my hobby just yet, but my current reality was just not bringing me as much joy as it used to... I set out some resolutions this year to put a concentrated effort into improving my situation. I want to mend relationships that I have felt floundering, and also be proactive in creating new relationships where I have felt a void.
Why am I putting this out there? Because I am more than happy for other people to know this is my goal this year. I want to make new friends. I want to be more involved in the RP community. I want to mend old grudges and wipe the slate clean; lets forgive and move on, start again. And I need you to help me do that!
Here are my meta-goals for 2020:
1. I will make an effort to reach out and schedule roleplay dates with my ‘regular’ partners at a minimum of once a month. This goal is mainly for my ships where we’ve been RPing for years and we’ve gotten into bad habits of just talking about head canons, or hanging out IRL instead of carving out RP time, simply infrequent RP, or if our schedules are simply challenging. Mainly focusing on Jericho, Aelberyn, Kharris, and Selysona.
2. I will be more active in commenting, reblogging, and following RP blogs of OC’s I know and don’t know. I will push outside my usual box and be open to different groups that I haven’t previously socialized with. I will send asks and prompts even if I think ‘this person doesn’t like me’ or ‘this person is annoyed by me’ or ‘I heard through the rumor mill this person believes a bunch of untrue BS about me’. It’s 2020 and I am MEGA over all these old grudges and history we all carry around. I want to start clean. Life is short and we’re all playing a video game together. I want to support others, put myself out there, push past insecurity.
3. I will post more self-promotional material. I’ve previously cringed at self promotion and I have to get past this. People don’t interact with OCs they don’t know. I have to put myself out there and ignore the brain weasels if I want people to interact with me.
4. I will write more original work. I’d like to aim for at least 12 original blogs this year. While that’s not a lofty goal at all, I’ve been averaging about zero to 3 blogs per year for YEARS. People won’t interact with OCs they don’t know. If I want people to get excited about my character, I need to actually write for him.
5. I would like to make a few brand new friends this year. This has been such a steep challenge in the past 7 years for me. Every new OC I meet has felt like the alt of someone I know, and when those writers leave WoW it means they take 5-6 OCs with them. My character deserves to have friends, and one of my biggest depression triggers has been going to events and not knowing anyone anymore. So I’m putting a BIG effort into making Iloam some new buds. If I reach out to you out of the blue through Tumblr, please don’t be creeped out! I’m genuinely not trying to creep on you. I’m just putting effort into meeting new people and Tumblr is the best way to meet OCs outside my regular IG haunts.

Dragon Age: Inquisition, day 20.
Right, time for Doom Upon All The World, let’s do this thing.
Final party: Varric, Blackwall, and Solas, for reasons personal, personal, and thematic, in that order. Hopefully I don’t end up regretting all my life choices.
Hello again, stretchy man. This ought to be fun.
Level 26 party + DLC gear + playing on Casual mode = His Stretchiness being dispatched with hilarious ease inside of a few minutes. Didn’t actually need the supply caches or anything. Keeping barriers up is easier with two mages to do it, so even squishy old Varric came through the fight intact.
Remember, I’m a total sap, so yes, I smiled real big at the rest of the companions showing up to check on Linniva after the battle, and then the hero’s welcome back at Skyhold.
...fucking egg.
Aww, babies. (For the record, Blackwall, Cole, Cassandra, Sera, Iron Bull, and Dorian all say they’re sticking around, and Vivienne is headed to Val Royaux to organize the loyalist mages, and it looks like Leliana is going to be the Divine like I wanted.)
Awwww, Blackwall.
I didn’t get to see the epilogue, though, and only part of the stinger with Solas and Flemeth, because I was called away to dinner almost as soon as it started playing. What, pray tell, was ever wrong with the way the epilogue slides showed in Origins, where you clicked to advance them, so you could just leave it and come back in a situation like that?
Well, that’s that for the main game. On to Trespasser.
Aww, Varric. Comtesse? Does that mean Linniva outranks you, given that you’re the Viscount?
Right, Bran does share Sebastian’s VA, doesn’t he. There’s another one I’m happy to see reused as often as desired.
Aww, Thom.
Going by your own name again? That’s a good sign. Means you’ve probably gotten the voice to quiet down. You know the one. The voice that tells you that no one whose life you’ve passed through can ever know peace until every memory of you is burned and drowned in the sea. It’s a wonderful thing when that voice isn’t so loud anymore, isn’t it?
I see what you’re doing there with the “I’m not going anywhere.” bit, game. Aww. <3
Aww, Cole. You and Maryden are sweet together.
Aww, Cassandra. If only Linniva potentially getting engaged were the biggest thing on the agenda today.
Aww, Iron Bull. Shame her majesty the Warden-Commander hasn’t been seen in yonks, you and she could trade pointers on punching Fade Rifts into submission.
Sera!
Aww, Josephine. Wow, that’s a lot of explosives.
Aww, Cullen. Looks like you’ve found a very good friend. Here, have some treats for him.
Wow, Teagan looks wrong.
Teagan, you’ve got some nerve ragging on the Wardens and yelling about how they shouldn’t have political power, considering exactly who is on the throne of Ferelden. Or are you going to tell me that’s different somehow?
Angry Qunari and Solas clearly having been up to some shit for a very long time, all very cool and good.
Ah, right, the thing with the Evanuris. Look, Bioware, I just got done hollering at Obsidian for the handling of religion in their RPG series. Well, OK, mid-November isn’t “just got done”, but you know what I mean.
I’ll give DA this over Pillars, at least the “monotheistic definitions of godhood are mostly aimed at justifying monotheism and are hardly the only game in town” message here wasn’t undercut by putting it in the mouth of a villain who then went on to brag about his genocides. Really, who thought that was a good idea?
And the Avvar religion is about what I would’ve expected from an attempt to fit animism into the established metaphysics of the setting. But the fact that that is the established metaphysics of the setting, the fact that “the Avvar gods are just spirits” and “the elven gods are just powerful wizard-kings” are both, as far as I can tell, entirely and explicitly true, means the message here is still “only monotheistic gods really count as gods, polytheistic ones don’t count because Reasons”.
Please, for the love of little green apples, all RPG studios doing worldbuilding for games, could you please include someone who isn’t a current/former/cultural Christian in the process? Someone who’s done a little reading on comparative religion? Someone who sat through a few years of Greek school as a child and internalized the theoi just as surely as Jesus? Something? Please?
Not sure how the “vallaslin are slave markings” thing was supposed to work—were the Evanuris the only slave owners in their society? Was there originally more of a variety of patterns that then got whittled down as the meaning of having vallaslin changed over time? And was the nice white writer from Canada really the best choice to be digging into the validity and function of cultural signifiers with their origins in slavery?
Yay, Deep Roads! And explosions!
Talking to Sera again, she’s a lot less terrible, it’s nice.
And further fun with eluvians will have to wait for tomorrow.
