#*chanting* skask skask skask skask-#vincent aurelius lin #adamandi #hello. let's talk about what's going on here! i've been tossing the idea about here wrt skin translucency ever since that post came out #(it's linked above fyi. but to quote it.) 'attempting to pursue this unachievable white ideal of the young academic; maybe leading to gory #representations of mimicry; replacement; taking on someone else's skin; altering the self'#this is primarily key in vincent and the skask; in the actual show iirc they used a jockey mask or smth? but i was thinking about the #delightful way skin is semi-transparent. and so a literal layer of skin alone would be unlikely to provide the whiteness pursued-#the under layer of the original tone would be there. so smth about the failure and unattainable.#additionally; at this point of the show the skin would have been likely yellowing or greying due to post-mortem development? so even more #Not white. from observations (as a kid;comparing skin tones?) white people have a pinker undertone (this might be. a generalisation but.)#here the lighting is yellowish to further push the difference + give the super harsh lighting that if you suspend disbelief has some hair #appear as blonde to further the ambrose-ness.#also the hair- messier on the non-ambrose side; a reference to the whole monologue about the haircuts they got #we bring to you also another episode of <i like drawing fabric folds> in the jacket symbolism! from bottom right to top left; it tracks #vincent throughout act two: the initial long jacket for standing out (nonchalance?) at ardess is removed; the yellow coat is put on- aided #here by ambrose's ghost which is represented by the hand! (it is very very slightly transparent- you can see the jacket pattern through it)#(if you look close) and then the satchel goes over it; this mimics the clothes in <oh ms reporter>#and then the Actual Ambrose jacket goes above along with the skask; following the outfit from the pyre scene at the end.#the spark/star thing is partially foreshadowing for the upcoming stabby eye trauma thing (@quincy) and partially just so i could highlight #the eye of the mask/ the place where vincent's eye probably is Behind the mask. because i liked the idea of merging faces; intersection.#back to the translucency of skin - you can kind of make out where the rest of his face is from the darker bit? aka it's not the same colour #as the skask. smth smth limited effectiveness...#tldr? face skin. jacket skin. altering appearance over time; unfeasibleness #when i was doing this i suddenly remembered covering my skin in talcum powder as a kid... hm. i'd forgotten about that.#anyways! when i posted my first ever adamandi thing i had the thought of 'this musical makes me want to paint' and surreally enough #that has proved to be so so true. and ngl i am really enjoying it? love it when the motivation to create is there haha #i will add as a disclaimer that i'm literally chinese and if the colours look off.. i did not mean to make a caricature. please be nice #that said because stage lighting tends to shift colours about a Lot i essentially used my own skin as a reference under yellow light?#so hopefully that checks out. <disappears>

i always think it's a little funny when sewing tutorials offer printable patterns but all the pieces are rectangles with simple relations to each other. love the thought here, i've been a beginner myself, but if a ruler renders the pattern redundant maybe don't waste the paper?

One day fursuit makers are going to be cancelled because faux fur and foam produce a lot of microplastics and are overall bad for the environment and then there’s gonna be someone who makes a suit out of real fur (probably rabbit) and everyone’s gonna be so creeped out that people just kind of forget about the topic and agree there’s worse evils to worry about. One day guys

Just woke up from a really bizarre dream and ignoring most of it i really want that gun i had in it like it was this soild steel pump action shotgun that for some reason spent most of its time in a vacuum sealed plastic bag but could still hit with excellent accuracy it was so damn shiny too originally it was a funky looking revolver but that was too hard to reload for some reason

#there was also some weird fabric looking monster that was the embodiment of fear and trauma #like it was a mouth with purple lips and pale pasty skin and dull white square teeth #and behind the mouth was like a really long curtain like fabric it was purple and red and it was reflective with weird white dots sparking #off of it #it wasnt my fear though it was my friends and like it taken the form of some childhood friend that had gone missing #and i we had to shoot it until became the weird mouth #and the final conclusion was that we weren't strong enough to finish it off but it also wasn't strong enough to finish us off #so it just smiled and left saying it'd be back

sooo. im thinking a bit about what cosplay im gonna make next, and i think ive narrowed it down to a couple options, but i want you to have all the options!

other options on the list include: Sailor Neptune (school uniform) - Sailor Moon (i think ive got a group for this!), Janet - The Good Place, Loki - Avengers Academy (the one i started last year), or Female Stede - Our Flag Means Death. a lot of these projects i have some level of plan for & wanna do some day, i just have stronger opinions on Kyoko/Toph. but if any of those sound more interesting to you! i am down. i wouldnt list options i didnt want

Kyoko is a costume that i have been planning for SO long, and finally feel like my skills are somewhere where ill be able to do her justice. i have a lot of the materials for this costume, including the wig, and even have a pattern plan for the main part of the garment. HOWEVER. my main material is velvet. and none of my other materials are any nicer to work with. i want to make the boots from scratch, i want to learn new wig making techniques, i want to make the spear to its full potential. this is going to be a big, complicated, time consuming project, and ill probably put it down at least once for my own mental wellness. its a dream costume of mine and i want to do it justice. its going to be a challenge, super technical and precise, but i think itll be worth it. its also going to be less comfortable, corset & velvet are not... the best con combo (also its a shorter skirt than i usually like, so ill be emotionally uncomfortable)

(also the more i think about it the more im... eh about the colour of my main velvet so um. might end up rebuying that)

Toph on the other hand, i have none of the materials for. i do have a source idea for the cream fabrics but nothing else at all. my design plan is sorta NATLA inspired- still the animated Toph costume, just drawing on the fabric and textures the netflix show used (especially with the Kyoshi warriors), which means some Sourcing will have to be done to find fabrics with the right weight & drape for my plans. this style of looser patterning is also new to me, not to mention pants.... though i think Toph would be a good project to avenge myself there honestly.

in general, this is gonna be a much easier make, and a nice comfy costume for cons, but at the same time, its a lot of expense out the gate, fabric shopping i dont neeeeed to do, and definitely still has some areas that test my skills (wig in Particular). i havent put as much time and energy into thinking about this build, but it has been on my list for some time and i wont regret making it.

(pictures of the others i mentioned. obviously no picture for my stede design but i was thinking of drawing inspo from the historical dresses in the show- some of marys, and evelyns, and the crowd scenes- and obviously stede himself, and then also reference real history. i dont own anything suitable for this time period so the first project would be stays i suspect!)

#i feel like ive missed out tons about each of these projects so if you wanna know more things please ask questions!#im excited to start on either of them; i think theyll be fun @ cons so!!! i just cant decide which #sorry i feel like i keep proposing projects and not following through but i have been thinkin about this for. a bit #this wont be my next make its just. next cosplay. maybe a slower project? not for a specific con?#the problem is. ive been trying to let my brain takes me where it wants to recently. but i also have so many projects i HAVE supplies for #that i should make. that ill like when ive made them. that simply arent sparking that interest right now #and its hard because i feel guilty over the size of my fabric stash. but if i tried to force myself to make some of the plans #i simply. wouldnt be making.#anyway i am going to try and find joy in some planned projects too. maybe work on a couple different things at once to keep my brain happy?#so i can switch around when i hit problems #^^ none of that specifically applies to these two. just in general. im often finding myself not interested in things i can actually make #sewing #polls #cosplay #seriously please if u wanna know more. ask!!!!!!!

Idk what I want to work on next besides probably another giant octopus and a Bucky Bear for my MTH auction fill, so I'm taking suggestions! What do you think I should make next?

#the person behind the yarn #as usual I make no promises or guarantees about what I will make #I never know what spark of imagination will ignite #and suddenly pivot my focus to be lasered in on making a giant octopus for like an entire day #could not have predicted that one lol #also I found someone else's large octopus plushie and their pattern looks significantly easier to design #way more complex to sew!#but simpler to design #I usually fall on the 'I'd rather it be easy to design and complex to sew instead of easy to sew and complex to design' side of the scale #so idk why the octopus was such an exception for me?#but it really is! it's surprisingly extremely easy to sew #I mean. like. a lotta curves to sew #but if you pull a bit on the fabric as you sew the tentacles you just get tentacles that are twisting a little #which is fine because they are tentacles. if anything it's a bonus and makes them look better

Hmm I am having Thoughts about BJD heads again. This one is really pretty, has elf ears already, and is pretty much the same scale as the Dream Valley Vanora head. It looks a little more realistic in terms of proportions than the Dream Valley head, so I wonder if I got it for Vanora, if it would look like it goes together with the Muhyul head for Faolan than I feel like they do now.

And if not, well I have the Tianba eyes I got from the VIP bag from NYC dollcon i need a doll for (though i was thinking i'd see if i could get a 1/4 scale girl they'd fit...)

But we still don't know if we're moving or not >< I guess I could have it shipped to my parents' just in case
