What would you rather do?
Replay the entirety of Other M?
Or
Replay a single level of Megaman X7?
I can replay the tutorial of X7 which is the least offensive level of the bunch (maybe Splash Warfly could also be feasible) and suffer for only a few minutes, unlike the 10 or so hours of my life I wasted injecting into my eyes and ears the most boring, cringeworthy, and at times offensive story-pretending-to-be-a-movie I've had the displeasure of experiencing in a videogame :P

Mega Man X7 Ending
Ladies and gentlemen: it’s July 17th.
Today officially marks Mega Man X7′s 20th anniversary, as the game originally came out in Japan exactly 20 years ago today!
And what better way to celebrate than to finally put an end to this trainwreck of a game!
The first of the final stages, Palace Road, is one of the slowest, most awkward autoscrollers you’ll ever play!
Not only is it slow due to X7′s natural sluggishness, but the camera also does a miserable job at showing you incoming obstacles, enemies and bottomless pits, meaning that you pretty much have to avoid dashing otherwise you ight just find yourself falling off a cliff and even then you will ram into enemies coming from offscreen more times than you can count. So we’re off to a great start already!
And then we have the final stage: The Crimson Palace
I dunno if you have noticed but this video is almost an hour long
About 90% of that time is spent in the Crimson Palace
It’s not that the level design is particularily awful, Sure it’s bad but nothing too out of the ordinary for this game
It’s just that it keeps going on
And on
And on
And OOOOOOOOOON
This level has the same issue as Gate’s second stage in X6 in that it keeps going even after the first boss battle
The fight against Red is one of the worst, if not THE worst boss fight in Mega Man history
You have to keep track of him as he teleports around this arena made up of platforms over a bottomless pit, as the camera makes no attempt at focusing on him, while you have to deal with X7′s controls and hit detection/boxes, making jumping precisely on those platforms a goddamn chore AND you also have to avoid his fake clones.
This fight is absolutely shit (and it’s shit that drags too, he’s got a lot of health) because you’re not actually fighting Red, you’re effectively fighting the camera and the controls.
The only boss fights that come close are those from Legends 1, and even then I’m generally more forgiving to those because
1) It’s an early PS1 game and issues with the camera and controls in 3D games were standard back then
2) Mega Man Juno may be a piece of shit but he’s not a piece of shit that you have to fight over a fucking bottomless pit!
And then the level keeps going through another series of boring and awkward platforming sections
Then we reach the boss rush
Credit where it’s due: the room is very creepy and atmospheric and the fact that the teleporters look like graves is really apt for this context
But fucking hell man!
I spent 20 minutes on this boss rush alone!
20 MINUTES!
All because X7′s bosses are just so fucking tanky and their weaknesses are mostly worthless against them!
This is the absolute worst boss rush I have ever seen
20 minutes!
I could probably beat Eggmanland in less time! And that’s a whole stinking level!!!
And then we get to Sigma and every time he says “That’s right, folks!” and “Fellas” I’m expecting the Loony Toones logo to pop up around him
His first phase is nothing fancy
His second phase is another travesty due to, again, forcing you to platform in 3D over a bottomless pit with these controls
Luckily even if you get a game over here you just restart the second phase
I used to rage hard here but then I discovered on the Internet that he’s really weak to the charged version of Splash Warfly’s weapon. Whatever, so long as it gets the job done
The final cutscene changes depending on the character that dealt the final blow to Sigma
In X’s ending we can see that he hasn’t learned a goddamn thing and he’s still bitching about Axl using violence to deal with Mavericks, he even sounds arrogant when he says that “You can’t train someone to become a hunter like me”. Wonderful
Axl’s ending is a continuation of X’s in a way:
youtube
Zero’s ending on the other end is just a shallow tie-in with the Zero series (which was a thing by this point)
youtube
Was he just...napping while standing up...? Do robots need to sleep? I mean in X4′s intro he’s also sleeping and dreaming but he’s in a capsule so I assumed he was also charging up his batteries or maybe undergoing light maintenance or something. Then again in the Zero series we do see that Reploids have normal beds in their rooms so.... meh who gives a shit, certainly not the developers at this point
Happy Birthday Mega Man X7!!!

X Legacy Collection 2 Maverick Stages Tier List
Reasoning below the cut!
BEST:
-Pitch Black (Dark Mantis): Honestly my favorite of the Maverick stages in XLC2. It's just a cool stage with a cool vibe. I'd say the only downside is that the last stretch of the stage can be kind of annoying if you don't start up the generator (which requires bringing Axl along after clearing Dynasty).
GREAT:
-Primrose (Gravity Antonion): I know a lot of people will probably argue with me on this because of the spike block room. The spike block room is indeed what keeps this stage from being in Best tier, though it's easy to avoid having to do it as long as you visit the stage third (Vile will replace the spike blocks if you do). Otherwise, it's a surprisingly fun stage, and I love Gravity Antonion himself.
-Izzy Glow/Shining Firefly: Cool design, great music, and the only real problem I had was the midboss and boss both being kind of annoying. That's all that brings it down, really - the rest is fantastic!
ALMOST GREAT (all of these have caveats):
-Dark Dizzy/Dark Necrobat: The thing that bumps this down is the Gaea Armor part. It almost made me ragequit when I was trying to get it. Other than that, it's a fantastic stage, and especially fun with the Falcon Armor!
-Splash Warfly: I mean, it's an X7 stage. Take from that what you will. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to though.
-Vanishing Gungaroo: I really think the only problems with this stage are the fact that the ride armor is kind of clunky and the boss is a pain to fight. Other than that, it's actually surprisingly decent for an X7 stage.
-Booster Forest (Bamboo Pandamonium): A lot of fun if you're playing through it normally, especially since the ride armor feels great here. The only problem is that it has BY FAR THE WORST collectibles in the entire game. The amount of time I spent trying to get that last rare metal almost makes me question why I rank X8 as my favorite.
-Shield Sheldon: I love the concept here, and it's fun for what it is, but it's WAY too short unless you take the alternate route, and... alternate routes in X6 hahhahaahaaa no.
GOOD:
-Commander Yammark: Probably the only one of the main eight stages in X6 that doesn't have any particularly glaring problems. It's inoffensive, good first stage material. I do hate how finicky the subtank here is though.
-Mattrex/Burn Dinorex: This was probably because I was playing on Rookie Hunter mode, but I didn't have a problem with the lava floods. I enjoyed the rest of the stage more than I expected, too.
-Rainy Turtloid: I didn't expect to like this stage, given the acid rain. However, it's actually perfectly serviceable as long as you just ignore the spike tunnels. (Not as big a problem for a Rookie Hunter like myself, but they're still annoying.)
-Grizzly Slash/Crescent Grizzly: The only problem I have with this stage is the last segment with the trains you have to escape from. Other than that, it's actually pretty fun.
MEH:
-Infinity Mijinion: Stage itself is just kinda... there? Has one of the best stage themes in the series, but it's just dodging Illumina for the most part. Boss is really irritating.
-Axle The Red/Spike Rosered: I barely even remember this stage lmao
-Soldier Stonekong: Inoffensive, but not all that fun, either. Maybe it deserves to be a rank higher just for being an X7 stage that doesn't completely suck.
-Metal Valley (Earthrock Trilobyte): It's mostly just boring tedium. I do like the part where he throws a variant of his Overdrive at you before the actual boss fight though.
-Duff McWhalen/Tidal Whale: Long, boring, slow, and you have to go through it twice for the Falcon Armor part. The boss fight is also kind of frustrating. Only thing salvaging this is the music, and it's not even an original track. (I do think it fits better here though.)
-Central White (Avalanche Yeti): It's way too long and not all that interesting. Also, the one time I went in with Axl and Pallette, I regretted all of my life choices. DO NOT GO INTO THIS STAGE WITH AXL AND PALLETTE. THE SECOND MIDBOSS WILL MAKE YOU HATE YOURSELF.
-The Skiver/Spiral Pegasus: I hate time bombs. Relatively okayish otherwise, but not especially good, either.
BAD:
-Blaze Heatnix: It could have gone lower, but the Nightmare Snakes are mostly just annoying filler. They're much easier to deal with if you have Zero, or if you're using Ray Arrow or Metal Anchor with the Ultimate Buster chip on X. Amazing stage theme that does not fit with how slow and frustrating the stage is.
-Ride Boarski: Typical irritating ride chaser stage. I do find it kind of hilarious that this one encourages you to go slowly, but... yeah. Bad. Not good. Awful. Miserable.
-Tornado Tonion: Those. Freaking. Jumps. I hate invisible platforms.
-Wind Crowrang: The airplane part at the start is an enormous pain, and I suspect it would have been even worse if I wasn't playing with Rookie Hunter mode enabled. It's okay after you get past the planes, but the planes bring it down to this tier.
-Troia Base (Optic Sunflower): The challenges are annoying, and there's one jump where you basically have to bring Axl along or it's ridiculously difficult to get across. Also, the fact that you have to go through it twice with different results in order to get both rare metals. I'll give it one point for the Cut Man fight though.
WORST:
-Dynasty (Gigabolt Man-o-war): Pretty much speaks for itself. Terrible controls, terrible stage design. The only good thing about this stage is that it goes by relatively quickly if you know what you're doing, and thank God it doesn't have any collectibles.
-Blizzard Wolfang: Ice physics on narrow platforms with bottomless pits that drop frozen rocks into them. That one climbing section with the ice blocks that freeze on top of you. I rest my case.
-Ground Scaravich: I had enough RNG in X5, I don't need it here. Also, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY NIGHTMARE VIRUSES??? Plus, whose brilliant idea was it to make a DUNG BEETLE MAVERICK???
-Squid Adler/Volt Kraken: Do I even need to explain?
-Metal Shark Player: This stage has given me an eternal deep loathing for trash compactors.
-Snipe Anteator: Video games don't usually make me motion sick. This stage managed to make me motion sick. Automatic bottom tier.
-Flame Hyenard: There isn't a single part of this stage that is even remotely fun or even tolerable. It's just pure pain the whole way through. I want it to BURN TO THE GROUND!!!
-Inferno (Burn Rooster): Hate. Hate. Hate. All of my hate. Autoscrollers. Platforms. Spikes. HATE. HATE. HATE.

Putting my response under a cut as well, for the same reasons:
This makes Flame Hyenard saying this hit completely different now:
What if the reason why his pre-battle lines are the same for all three characters you play as while everybody else has variants is because this is all Hyenard can say? If all he can do is be horribly aware of how much pain he's in? Based on the symptoms and what you wrote, he's reached the point of the infection where the maverick virus is causing him to lose control of his mental faculties. Hence why he blames each member of the three Hunters for hurting him - including Axl, someone he was once friends with. And when you combine that with how hyenas can get rabies in real life, being modeled after an animal might be working against him in this situation.
But it gets worse.
Tornado Tonion's pre-fight dialogue with X suggests that it's only a matter of time before ALL the members of Red Alert who were infected with the maverick virus end up in a similar state:
It's a good thing the Hunters got to everyone when they did. Only three of the members of Red Alert are modeled after creatures that can't get rabies, or at least can't get it the same way mammals can (Wind Crowrang is a bird, Splash Warfly is a fish, and Tornado is an onion. An entire plant). Assuming that what a reploid's design is based on affects how the virus works in their body (although, based on your post, it seems to be indiscriminate), things could have gotten way worse. And then there's Red. He was the only member of Red Alert who wasn't infected with the Maverick Virus (besides Axl, who left them before things went down), and was forced to work under Sigma in the hopes that would lead to the others being returned to their normal states. This means he would've had to watch his friends slowly lose their minds. Imagine how he would've felt if Splash's infection had made it so that he couldn't stand looking at water anymore. If Soldier Stonekong started attacking people unprovoked. If Snipe Anteater had lost his calm demeanor.
I wonder what kind of person Hyenard was before his infection. We as the player never find out, since he's long gone by the time we get to him. And we don't see what he was like in Red's flashback sequences. But from a narrative standpoint, Red must've known exactly who he was. And he must've liked him, since he considered him a friend. One worth ditching his morals for when he followed along with Sigma's plan.
Watching him slip away must've hurt.
I feel like it’s just me thing, I want to make this headcanon about the Maverick virus for a bit.
ALSO CW BELLOW A TALK ABOUT RABIES STROLL AWAY IF UR NOT INTO THIS.
I kinda notice that the Maverick Virus is kinda like a dangerous infectious version of Rabies, but for machines instead of mammals.
Like before the mother elf was a thing, the maverick Virus was said to be incurable and you what else is a commonly incurable transferable disease?
Rabies (I know there’s other diseases but this one kinda struck me a bit if you think about the symptoms of the Maverick virus and Rabies especially with dogs)
A virus that can make someone go rabid and killing them. But it can also include these symptoms. To humans (Now with dogs…Use google amigos cause ummm you get what I’m referring to)

Now knowing that Machines are different meaning that the virus just makes them more insane and aggressive. Also another factor about Rabies is that it greatly affects animals that are mammals. It doesn’t turn extremely violent right away. There are even cases that people didn’t showed signs of rabies in months and Weeks before the symptoms starts to show and things go to Shiet in days.
Now unlike regular rabies in organics, Reploids don’t fucking die days later after they show signs of the virus. They are trapped in an endless hell of anxiety, anger, pain and violence with no hope for a proper cure. The only thing that can save them is just the sweet release of death.
And don’t get me started with the Sigma virus that’s just a whole other beast to talk about.
So I cooked up the idea of the difference between Regular Mavericks and Viral Mavericks
Viral Mavericks are basically rabid reploids who basically went feral and extremely violent for no reason, unable to be reasoned with no matter how hard you try to pacify them. One day they get sick and boom their processors goes completely fried (Slowly mind you), they cannot do anything as they slowly deteriorate into violent animals, also being in agony, death is basically a mercy for them.
Normal Mavericks on the other hand, are just Reploids who just does crime, criminals doing crime stuff it’s pretty basic ya know. These also the whole society that is paranoid of robots so it’s a very fucked up (and common) way to identify ur criminals by calling them a literal disease.
LITERALLY THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT ITS SPREAD FROM BE INFECTED IS WITH VACCINES-
Like I can talk about it more about it but in conclusion
The Mavericks Virus is literally just a self evolving version of Rabies.

I'd like general headcanons for Splash Warfly.
*Splash Warfly does not like being around others
*he has attacked others for no reason, other than the fact they looked at him funny
*Doesn’t exactly like being told what to do, either.
*he loves destruction, and to cause it
*Whenever he’s bored, he’ll go find something that he can either fight or wreck

Cossacks and Mavericks as Snapcube: The Piss Rock
*Zera aims her huntress weapon in shotgun form at Lisanna*
Zera: Get the hell out or I’m going to shoot Lisanna in the fricking face!
Pharaoh Man: No don’t!
Zera: I swear to God, I’ll do it, you bitches! Get out!
Boomer Kwuanger: *holds hands in forward position* Now there’s no need-
Zera, interrupting: I will pop her.
*The Cossacks and Mavericks grow tense and apprehensive*
Lisanna: Don’t give her my life for a rock!
*Sting Chameleon smirks as he pulls out a yellow chaos Emerald*
Sting Chameleon: Will you pop this Piss rock?
Zera, gasping in shock: Put the piss stone down! You don’t know what piss rock does to your… boing.
*distraction buys Wind Crowrang and Skull Man a chance to get to Lisanna*
Sting Chameleon, high-key lying: I like what it does to my… *mumbles* Zera!
Storm Eagle: *facepalms*
*Flame Mammoth, Drill Man, Splash Warfly, and Infinity Mijinion bust out laughing*

My sis thinks that unlike Blaze Heatnix and Infinity Milijion. Splash Warfly would actually mature and become a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. (He’d still wouldn’t suffer fools gladly but he’d warm up to Axl more.)

Mega Man X7 Part 2
Warning: Viewer’s auditory discretion is advised
So X7′s level design is bad, but mostly due to the controls and camera.
On their own most levels are bland, uninteresting and forgettable. Like there’s nothing I can comment on with Soldier Stonekong and Tornado Tonion’s stages other than the former’s has this nasty issue where oftentimes the midair dash just refuses to work over certain cliffs for some baffling reason, forcing me to hover with Axl to be sure.
Splash Warfly is long as shit and you can really start to spot how much the camera angle sucks here: it barely allows you to view what’s in front of you! That first miniboss is so awkward because it constantly goes off screen while the camera is stuck right on your ass!
There are occasions where you are allowed to move the camera, like with boss fights such as Tornado Tonion, but in this case the camera will ALSO keep track of the boss despite you wishes, and you can ONLY move it left or right, not up and down meaning you’ll be stuck with that shitty angle no matter what.
Flame Hyenard’s second half is a great example of this: you can’t see more than 3 feet in front of you in a level that constantly bombards you with enemies flying from offscreen, that can knock you in the insta kill lava that is still insta kill even if you have I frames because now is a good time to call back to Mega Man 1 I guess? Add the clunky controls and this just gets worse
And yeah Flame Hyenard.
If you know what you’re doing you can handle him easily enough, plus every time you hit him with his weakness he stops talking for a bit.
But if you DON’T have his weakness or just don’t know that the real one is on top of that giant robot goat thing and waste your time with his copies?
The memes are no exaggeration
youtube
As for each character’s gameplay style:
Axl has the barest essentials of the X gameplay formula, plus a hover but minus a charge shot.
The lack of a charge shot is the reason why I recommend you turn on rapid fire in the options because otherwise this game will quickly transform into DMC2′s cousin, forcing you to button mash non-stop throughout the levels. But with the rapid fire you can just hold down a button and things will die quickly with minimal effort. It ain’t fun but you’ll have to make do
Axl’s main selling point is supposed to be his ability to turn into certain enemies:
1) You have to kill an enemy with his Copy Shot which takes an eternity and a half to do the job, you CAN soften up enemies with normal attacks but sicne they have no visible healthbar you’ll have to count your shots so that you don’t accidentally kill them
2) There are only like 5 enemies in the whole game that can be copied
3) Their movesets are extremely limited and clunky, really only needed for 1 or 2 optional items
4) You can’t turn back until your weapon energy depletes on its own (or at least I’ve never found a way to do it)
So yeah I think I’ll be using it a grand total of once
The funny thing is that this ability was likely inspired by Mega Man’s original conceptual idea of being able to copy Robot Masters instead of stealing their weapons, and idea that will once again be proposed in some form in Mega Man ZX to better results
And as for Zero...
talk about a fate worse than death
His combos are slow, clunky, have no elegance, do less damage than previously, it’s pretty much impossible to avoid getting hit as you’re comboing.
Zero is absolute shit, aside from his double jump and SOME of his special moves being useful against some bosses (as you see here), but other than that no: he barely feels playtested, I swear he’s near unplayable in 3D
As for X...well you have to unlock him first! Yep! In a MEGA MAN X game!
And there’s a reason for that (though not a good one as you’ll see).
You unlock him by either completing the 8 stages or by saving about 70 Reploids, which results in its own series of problems as you’ll see

I did not see this coming, but I am not complaining. I fully support this. Let's get into it:
First of all, I am so happy that you're cool with me and Sneaky hijacking your post (lol). I didn't think you would mind, but I was also curious about how you would react outside of that.
Marty being isekai'd to save the lives of everyone she cares about has so much potential. Most people would probably take the easy route and try to prevent the Elf Wars by focusing on keeping Zero from being sealed up, but not Marty. She's going to do this right. She's snatching everyone up and improving their lives, not just making sure they survive.
The Hunters would totally be after the pirates after Marty commits two kidnappings (technically it's only one, but they don't know that). Maybe Colonel would lead the efforts to get them back, since Repliforce doesn't exist yet? He'd probably be concerned about their wellbeing. Hence the alliance - while he respects X and Zero's decision to stay onboard the ship, he'd absolutely want to make it obvious that they can come back whenever they want (they never do). He could also take out Sigma when the pirates are too busy living their best lives. I think he and most of Repliforce (including Iris and General) would be survive the events of X4 (they could even team up with the pirates to clear their names, since Repliforce was also labelled maverick for some debatable reasons.
The X-Hunters would be absolutely SCREWED. Since the pirates wouldn't really get involved in X1, the X-Hunters would be more concerned about resurrecting Sigma for reasons other than revenge. They never get the chance. They make the mistake of talking about their plans near the pirates, and Marty is just like "Yeah, no. Not on my watch." She knows what bringing Sigma back to life led to. The man needs to stay dead. So the X-Hunters get pulverized. Them's the breaks.
Doppler or Gate would probably be the ones to end up bringing Sigma back, though (let the crazy scientists be crazy scientists of their own volition, Capcom. Sigma can't run everything all the time), much to Marty's dismay. But then she figures that if X and Zero could take him out in the original timeline, then things would go much smoother now. X5 would be much less traumatic (nobody dies except Sigma! Hooray!)
I like the idea of the crew becoming a mix of random people who just need a second chance! I think X would have something to do with that. He'd definitely come to extend a hand to anyone willing to take it, now that he's in an environment that allows him to do so.
Also, I agree with X having a bunch of hobbies that he can work on when he isn't a diplomat. Maybe he'd have pet sea snails? Have a bunch of plants? Take up scrapbooking? Let X be domestic, gosh darn it!
Zero would be the best bodyguard. Nobody is getting hurt on his watch. He would probably break up any fights that took place (not that there would be many - nobody would want to run the risk of ticking him off, after all).
Axl would absolutely do random, little things that would cause Saturday-morning cartoon levels of silliness ("Hey rookie, wanna test out the new cannons?"). Nobody gets hurt, but everyone does learn a lesson and ends up having a good laugh.
Vile would probably be alive either the events of X3, assuming he still needs to be rebuilt. Maybe he has something to do with Red Alert being able to track the pirates down after they recruit Axl (imagine Red Alert with a boat??? Like, they get Splash Warfly's battleship and start going after them, but the problem is that Warlfy is the only one who knows anything about boats. At least one person falls overboard at some point), and he continues to be a menace afterwards. So Zero, Marty, and the rest of the crew would eventually come to the conclusion that they need to take this guy down. Doing so leads to them finding out about Lumine, who could be the antagonist of the whole thing, maybe (he keeps actively trying to discourage Marty from altering the timeline, but he never shows his face until X8 because he is a coward)? After finding out that this little lavender-haired loser has been behind the problems that they have, Marty, Zero, and Axl all look at him and think: "Yeah. We can take him." Cut to him being kicked on the ground. He doesn't get to insert the mystery gem into Axl's head. They make sure he's too dead to pull a fast one like that. Marty brings moondust home for X.
And once the alternate version of Command Mission takes place and all of The Horrors have successfully been stopped, Marty and X get married and live the rest of the rest of their days out at sea with their found family in peace, potentially featuring the Guardians as their children.
MartyX but Marty is trying to undoom X from his tragic narrative.
To embrace the wonders of freedom without the burdens of destiny. Break free from the shackles of fate and cast away your thorned crown!
I want Marty to take X away and let him enjoy life!! Be a pirate!! Let’s go to the sea together!
Well technically they have the fight but he can be a diplomat and see the world in a different angle! Se different points of views human and reploids views! The law isn’t the only answer!
I love the idea of the chosen one character to break free from their destiny and choose their own path! Especially the rebel character being the one to show them that there’s another way!!!
