if captain kirk irresponsible? why huge baby cow eyes???
if captain kirk bad captain? why-
you thought i was gonna talk about his voluptuous titties fat ass sparkling personality and unflinching moral character ? no.
if you say kirk is a bad captain i will kill you. I will shoot you into space like they did to bill shatty when he wouldn’t shut tf up about going to space
except unlike bill shatty ill send you up naked and defenceless into the vast chasm of space your lungs will explode and your eyes will fall out or some shit (i saw that in a doctor who episode)
kirk drift is getting out of hand and my response to this is ending all kirk drifters and repopulating the earth with kirklophiles such as myself and my dad paul.

sexy himbo jock interpretations of James Tiberius Kirk are silly and do a disservice to the character for a lot of reasons, not least of which is that it fundamentally ignores all the times in canon when Kirk is faced with a scientific discovery or oddity and you can see the effort it takes for him not to clap and skip with excitement. like in ‘the devil in the dark’ when Spock posits that they might be dealing with a silicon based life form and McCoy’s like “but that’s impossible!” and Kirk literally crosses the room to flirt talk excitedly with Spock about the prospect and how it could work! and what it would mean!
What I’m saying is, Kirk’s gotta be smart and a huge dork because how else could he pull a bad autistic bitch like Spock?

ngl, I honestly find it kind of hilarious to envision Bones as happily and healthily poly, and Kirk and Spock as (at heart) the most obnoxiously monogamous people on the face of the galaxy who are just repressed in very different ways and unhinged:
Bones realizing he's not the absolute central core of his beloved's emotional life: cool, the absolute central core of my emotional life is Medicine, but there's room in my heart for lots of other things and people too. Natira and I are both like this and we have a clearly worded understanding, it's awesome, we're planning a fourth honeymoon and I already got the detour authorized by Starfleet ahead of time, my friends don't really get it but signed off anyway
Kirk or Spock thinking they're not the absolute central core of one another's emotional life: I know Jim has been brainwashed by the neural neutralizer but wHY IS HE KISSING THAT WOMAN / this is gonna be painful on multiple levels but I will do and say literally anything to break Spock free from this smug spore cultist and get him to come home to me I mean the Enterprise / after steeping in envy for days my program has concluded Edith Keeler must die. uh. sorry I guess. unrelatedly I think you should take shore leave on Vulcan with me / I hate all AI computers but especially the one that Spock thought was kind of cool for a little while, I've gotta extra logic this one to death / oh looks like Rayna's circuits fried ... unfortunate ... better also wipe her from Jim's memory just to be sure / I need you I need you I need you

being both a star trek fan and an ace attorney fan is funny cause the star trek fandom has this concept called kirk drift right which is basically used to describe the cultural misremembering of jim kirk as this kind of chauvinistic play boy asshole whereas his actual portrayal in tos is someone who’s very much kind, gentle and sociable.
and then when I look at the ace attorney fandom, jim’s canon portrayal feels very similar to how certain parts of fanon portray phoenix. but canonically phoenix is like. a bitch.

It's really odd that I seem to find two different takes over how TOS Kirk was when young. In various novels from the 80s he portrayed at a goody two shoes who studies all the time and obeys every rule.
In 'modern' novels, even Shatner's own Star Trek Academy, Kirk is a too smart for his own good bad boy. (not quite AOS level but still)
The autobiography of James T Kirk does break that in that it's a more recent book and Kirk is obedient and smart.
I'm wondering if part of the reason is people think it's better storytelling or that it makes Kirk more interesting that way (maybe Kirk drift though I will argue a lot of how Kirk is known in pop culture didn't come out of a vacuum, feminist my ass). I personally do see TOS Kirk as a goody two shoes even if it is kind of boring.
And (oddly) I am enjoying Shatner novel (no, I know he didn't write it) but I feel it fits more as a AOS Kirk and Spock if Nero never happened. ( I mean they met as a strip club.)

I love him, in all his iterations. Our sad little stack of book on legs - it is a tragedy what popular consciousness has done to his reputation.

I rewatched Mako Mori and Raleigh Becket's first fight scene (the determining compatibility one...) for Fic Writing Research and now I need to know: does anyone have fic recs for drift compatible!Kirk and Spock?
I'll seek them out myself, but if anyone has any locked and loaded I would LOVE to know what your favorites are
And if they don't exist I guess I know what I'm doing after Fake Married lol

lowkey, i think this is the best shit i've ever written!!!!
Spock allows himself to smile, to withdraw from pointing out the complicated intricacies of their heartbeats. Instead, he agrees with Jim, concedes to the romanticism of it all and leaves logic in the same place where his shirt is folded. He will take it up once more later, but for now, there is no real use for it when the only thing he knows he needs at this time is the man beneath him.
theres just something about it!!!!!!!! that makes me go!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!

Reblogging this calls for a link to Erin Horakova's essay on how Kirk in TOS is also sensitive, gentle, thoughtful, and anti-sexist--a man who calls the words "let me help" more powerful than "I love you."
I love Spock I love him soooo much they were like let’s make a character that’s nerdy and a pacifist and a vegetarian and he’s also a mommas boy and a sensitive musician. But he should also be. A straight up Bitch

from The Trellisane Confrontation by David Dvorkin
Spock speaks to the hopeful romantic inside McCoy that his cynicism makes him afraid to believe, hm.
