Dean stared blankly at Michael for what seemed like eons before he scrunched his nose and narrowed his eyes, shaking his head.

"I don't... I don't understand what the fuck you mean. Treat me like I'm an idiot- and no, I am fucking not an idiot before you ask, and explain to me what you mean in HUMAN words for me, will you? Fuckin prick." The hunter muttered his last sentence under his breath as he rolled his eyes, raising a brow at Michael.

OPEN STARTER—

Raguel knocked back a shot and sighed, feeling the whiskey burn as it slid down his throat.  This made 1209 shots and he was finally starting to feel a little tipsy.  But this was normal for a Saturday night.  Gabby was watching Konny for him while he was trying to beat last weeks record...because his partner bet everyone in the department 25000 bucks that 'Ragsy can always beat his own record'.  That was 2 months ago and right now he was mentally cursing Avery for talking him into going with it.  He doubted Avery even had 25 grand.

  He looked around the crowded bar, inhaling the scent of liquor, body odor, overkill cologne, and tobacco smoke.  The 'Devil's-Tonic Bar' was a little hole-in-the-wall in Hell's Kitchen, with a cozy atmosphere for locals and tourists.  It had a small stage with a piano and mic, to but  the main attractions of the place were a huge mountain-goat's head mounted on the wall behind the bar and the fact that the proprietor, Toby, let his patrons illegally smoke inside the building.  Although Raguel was a cop, he had no intention of charging anyone....

  Uggh, his thoughts were starting to get jumbled.  He downed another shot, then shook his head a little as he held the glass out for a refill. 1210.   Toby gave him an amused look.  Raguel decided he should demand half Avery's winnings.  But he wouldn't.  He loved the asshole like a brother...

  Brother.   That wasn't 100% true.  He actually hated 3 out of his 4 real brothers and he wasn't all that close to his vessel's 2 brothers.   Sister might be a better if Avery weren't so damn touchy about being a guy with a girl's name.   Raguel got along great with Gabby.  She was spunky, fun, sweet, almost innocent, loved his son as much as he did, and treated him like her brother even though she knew he wasn't.   He smiled at the thought before downing his next shot.  1211.

Castiel adored when Dean was protective over him he saw Dean grab his blade and head his way as Cas was in pain, from an Archangel blade which had gone into his shoulder from a fight with Michael. Castiel was coughing up blood in pain and badly hurt he just now wanted some help.

Alright, my muse decided to get away with a new idea, that i am refusing to write at the moment because i have a bunch of works that i have to finish but i will write the general idea in here.

I read a Brookyn 99 fic once of a different fandom, as well as watched the series and somehow I thoguht what if it was with the supernatural characters? But not in a way that it would normally be done, no, I dont want Dean nor Cas as Jake and Amy, no, I want them to be like Hitchcock and Scully, with some differences, let me explain

So first we would have our main characters, right? So I am thinking something like

Sam as Boyle

Jo as Rosa

Charlie as Gina

Dean and Cas as Hitchcock and Scully

Ruffus as Jeffords

Bobby as Holt (Crowley is Bobby´s husband)

And our main characters: Adam as Jake and Michael as Amy

And of course the story would focus on the main pair of Michael and Adam, but with nods to Destiel in the background, how you might ask?

Well, for starters, for those who havent seen B99, the pilot presents the squad with Terry giving Holt a quick verison of everyone. So in my version Rufus would be introducing the squad to Bobby and when it is time for Dean and Cas, he would be like

Rufus: Oh yes, that is Destiel

Bobby: Destiel?

Rufus: Yeah, Dean and Castiel, they do everything together and honestly it is more trouble that it is worth separating them

Bobby: They are holding hands while writing reports

Rufus: Yes, they tend to do that all the time

Bobby: That cant be efficient

Rufus: Honestly cap, we are not even sure if Castiel is actually hired here, he kinda of just showed up one day and started to trail after Dean, and Dean let him

Bobby: So they are together?

Rufus: We are inclined to believe so

Bobby: Arent Sam and Adam Dean´s siblings?

Rufus: Yes and they are just as confused as the rest of us

And then the whole subplot would be everyone else trying to find out whether a) Cas is actually supposed to be in the bullpen and b) if Dean and Cas are married or in a relationship

Picking a random GURPS book to round out the week and landed on the sourcebook for Humanx (1987). I have a lot of fondness for this cover, by Michael Whelan, even while having no real notion of Alan Dean Foster���s Humanx Commonwealth. Turns out it is a pretty good distillation of the core concept.

The books are about, well, the Humanx Commonwealth, which is an intergalactic political body created through the partnership of humans the the mantis-like Thranx. It seems a rather optimistic sort of arrangement, with both species advancing farther symbiotically than the might have otherwise on their own. There are other sorts of aliens as well, including the lizardy, militaristic AAnn, whose empire is the Commonwealth’s primary antagonists. There’s high technology and ships and psionics (I believe this is the first attempt by the system to tackle mental powers, even), lots of setting information (there are apparently a large number of stories to draw on!) and a starter adventure.

I really like it! I find a lot of RPG sci-fi seems pessimistic in character, so this is pretty refreshing, more in line with Star Trek or even Iain Banks’ Culture. Yet another instance of GURPS inspiring me to track down some novels.

You know, there's plenty to complain about wasted potential in characters, wasted story lines and the like but my biggest, hugest gripe with this show (beyond the homophobia but that's a different topic) is how much they wasted every archangel that wasn't Lucifer. And even Lucifer got absolutely butchered in season 15!

We met Raphael for so little that I can even think about what could have been done differently with him. Probably seeing more of the civil war in heaven would have helped both Raphael to feel more like an actual character instead of a figure stick placed to be Castiel's antagonist and Cas himself to not look like the asshole the writers tried to make him look like in s6

Gabriel was an amazing character that, like mostly everyone that wasn't Sam and Dean, deserved way more screen time that he got. But even with what we had, bringing him back in s13 to do absolutely nothing more than make Lucifer cry once and then killing him again was an absolute disservice to the archangel that died in the apocalypse facing his brother for the right reasons. He could have stuck around and if they really didn't want to have the power of an archangel on the side of the good guys then keep him depowered and let him process his trauma instead of healing in like 2 seconds

Michael... where do I even begin with Michael? The most powerful archangel, our Dean parallel in the celestial family, the obedient soldier that was still the nicest he could be to his vessels and I don't think he even had half an hour total of screen time. And let's be clear, I am not counting Apocalypse Michael here, this is about our world Michael, OG Michael. For starters we should have seen way more of him than we did. From season 11 onwards there were so many occasions in which the boys could have at least tried to talk to him AND THEY COULD DO IT but they never even tried. I do however love what they did with him and Adam when they finally left the cage, although I would have been the first one cheering them on if they went for revenge I think what they did makes clear just how different and not actually evil was Michael. I hate that even in the season where we know they are out there we barely see him, I would have loved to see more of his conflict about what his father did, seeing him grieve Adam (friendly or romantic, whatever is good for me at this point) and... well, here comes the biggest bad thing they did to him, I would have loved to see him stand up to his father, Michael deserved to do that, he was one of the angels who got most deeply screwed over by Chuck and he deserved to punch him in the face

And while in that topic... Lucifer. Lucifer was the archangel with the best arc, he was a great villain and the fact that the Mark was what made him like is in the first place made him actually sympathetic, when he told Michael he didn't want to fight him, the whole thing with Chuck I'm season 11 and then he realizing he had been played by his father in season 12 and wanting to prove he could do better was great. I loved what looked like a redemption arc for him because besides Michael, he also got incredibly screwed by their father. I hated that he turned on Jack like he did, I wish that whatever confrontation needed to happen at the end of season 13 would have been more out of being scared of AU!Michael and wanting to protect Jack even if he had to do it forcefully. The fact that Nick was somehow alive after his death was strange as fuck and I wish they had explained how exactly after he looked dead in S5 but regardless, the fact that he wanted Lucifer back I think says something about how he interacts with his vessels (when said vessel doesn't drag him back to his cage, I guess, sorry Sam, I love you). But biggest sin against him was how he went right back to Chuck like a dumbass in s15. S12 Lucifer, my beloved, he would never. He deserved to punch Chuck as much as Michael, I wish they had teamed up and punched Chuck together. Bet two archangels fighting god would have charged up Jack faster and would not have been as ridiculous as two humans being beaten up by god and being just mildly hurt at the end, they could still stand...

Anyway, the archangels deserved better, thanks for coming to my tedtalk

hi shal !!! so I was thinking about ouroboros (daily occurrence) and realized that the snake/chicken symbolism for jack destroying his soul could also double as symbolism for his choice to kill Michael. for starters, Cas says the story is meant to be a cautionary tale about greed, before leading into their conversation about dealing with loss; Jack pointedly says he hates to think about losing Sam and Dean, and that having to cope with their eventual loss sounds awful to him. and then it segues into him making the extremely impulsive and dangerous decision to destroy his soul and save them, despite being constantly told of the consequences and risks posed by his soul depleting.

within the episode, the chicken/snake symbolism is framed as — “Is Jack the chicken hard boiling her own egg to save the other ones, or is he the snake eating an egg out of his own nature and hunger and choking on it?” — but I think it can also be interpreted as “Is Jack killing Michael because he wants to save his family, or is he killing Michael because it’s a natural compulsion to kill,” (especially considering that Jack hates Michael with a soul-burning passion).

Conversations about Loss

I love that conversation between Cas and Jack. When Jack spirals, the 🎶musical track even goes off-key,🎶and it's very unsettling indeed. Jack is tortured by the thought of losing his family. ->"What's the point of being a cosmic being if everyone I care about is just gonna leave?"

Aside// Another interesting facet of that conversation is that, although Cas is gently preparing Jack for the inevitability of loss, he won't even allow himself to go there about Dean, not really. -> "So when Dean wakes up -- and he will wake up -- we just have to remember to appreciate the time that we all have together now."

Nature vs Nurture

To your larger point, I think what you're asking is if I think the chicken/egg/snake analogy can be applied to a cosmic thread of Nature Vs Nurture, right?

I think yes.

This is a thread that was introduced with Jack in his very first episodes, with Donatello (13x02):

DONATELLO: Ah. The nature versus nurture conundrum. DONATELLO pats DEAN and SAM’s shoulders.] Oh. Speaking not as a prophet but as a scientist, I don’t think teaching him is in the cards. It’s like asking a lion not to be a lion.

AU ZACHARIAH: Jack is the key to the other side. It's just-- humans, have such a primitive response to fear. Maybe he takes after his lesser side--

The hard thing, the ugly thing

I'll add to this later, but I'm specifically thinking about how Cas moves to "do the ugly brutal things, so Sam and Dean don't have to." He consistently positions himself as the one who is more willing to do the necessary evils that even they cannot stomach.

Jack is a step above that, but he too moves to shield. He leans into doing the hard thing, but at the expense of his own self and family life. It's a metaphor for war, and how that sunders you from a life of love and comfort.

We get this echoed at lower levels, too, how Sam and Dean do the "hard thing, the ugly thing," so human civilians don't have to. (I believe it's a quote from Atomic Monsters in season 15, but I don't have that on hand).

They're each on their own level of war within the cosmic hierarchy. (Ordinary life -> Hunting life -> Men of Letters life -> angelic war -> archangels & gods)

The nature of the Ouroboros

I think all of these conversations can be applied to the nurture versus nature dilemma, as well as the chicken/egg/snake one.

Jack is characterized by a dualistic nature: he's both predator and prey, angel and human, heavenly and primitive, lion-coded and nurturing. I think he absolutely struggles with simultaneous bloodlust and the need to protect.

The war within leads to this tendency to self-annihilate, I think. He's not just the chicken or just the snake; he's like the ouroboros itself, eating its own tail in perpetuity as a doomed immortal, dying and coming back to life, like a zombie.

I'm reminded, too, that Jack's quintessential fetal episode (12x19) is filled with circle motifs, like Cas using his hand to complete Dean's circle. But Jack is intrinsically a complete circle without any aid from others; he's Heaven and Earth.

I'll ponder on it over the next few days and get back to you, but above are the motifs that come to mind when trying to stitch these two concepts together!

Is the story of the chicken and the snake really about greed, or is it more to do with the specific type of hunger? That is, it could be about the hunger needed to stay alive and keep your loved ones alive, and so it leads to a kind of warped altruism.

Greed is defined as the immoderate love or desire for riches and earthly possessions. A person can also be greedy for fame, attention, power, or anything else that feeds one's selfishness. As a deadly sin, greed is believed to spur other sins and further immoral behavior.

We recall the words Cas has about famine from 5x14:

SAM: I thought famine meant starvation, like as in, you know, food. CASTIEL: Yes. Absolutely. But not just food. I mean, everyone seems to be starving for something--Sex, attention, drugs, love... DEAN: Well, that explains the puppy-lovers that Cupid shot up. CASTIEL: Right. The cherub made them crave love, and then Famine came, and made them rabid for it.

I'm not sure which muses of mine you would like but I can list which of yours I would be interested in playing against. Hopefully this helps a little! We can always talk about pairing certain muses up or plotting. C: I also have my favorite tropes listed under my FAQ, so if you see anything you like, we can always use that trope as a base for the pairing we decide on and build from there.

I do have one of your open starters for Tony saved in my drafts, so I do plan on writing up a reply to that at some point, too. I just haven't figured out which muse I want to throw at him yet. 🤔 I'm debating on using Loki, Billy, Charlie, Adrian, or Rina; Charlie would be interesting since she hacks into things (but she's lesbian, so that would be a platonic ship either way).
