hello! Im visiting Copenhagen in January and was wondering if you have any recommendations of things to do or like cafes/stores/etc to visit?
Hi nonnie! So sorry for the delayed answer, I was down with the flu/plague/?? most of december so I've only just gotten back to my inbox.
I've tried to make a compilation of the recommendations for places to see, eat, and shop that aren't just the usual touristy stuff. I hope you enjoy your trip and the weather won't be too Copenhagen-in-January!
Where to eat (especially bakeries)
Sct. Peders Bageri – The oldest bakery in Denmark! They have a wonderful selection of traditional Danish baked goods but their seasonal varieties are also incredible.
BUKA – They have a few bakeries in town now and some of the best croissants and pastries.
Cakery Copenhagen – The best eclairs in town, hands down. Always a bunch of fun seasonal varieties and mini versions.
Bertels Salon – They do cheesecakes. And they’re amazing. They have 10+ fresh varieties every day (!) and turned me into a cheesecake lover.
La Glace – They do traditional Danish layer cakes and fancy patisseries as well as hot chocolate ad libitum. Very atmospheric and historic. A bit more expensive all in all but not insanely so.
Torvehallerne – Two large greenhouses full of delicious food and other food/drink related stores. Coffee Collective for coffee, Rørt for Danish smørrebrød, Granny’s House for pastries and Ma Poule for their famous duck sandwich.
Broens Gadekøkken – A small street food market right by the bridge across from Nyhavn. Depending on when you’re here, there’s also an ice skating rink set up during winter.
Mahalle - Lebanese fusion kitchen at affordable prices. You might want to book a table just in case.
Jagger - Burgers! Not the most hyggelige surroundings (a bit too industrial chic) but you can't argue with the food. Highly recommend the milkshakes!
What to see
Glyptoteket – Absolutely gorgeous museum. Free entrance on the last Wednesday of the month.
Thorvaldsens Museum – Also stunning, focused on statues. Free entrance all Wednesdays.
Nationalmuseet – Bog bodies! Their seasonal exhibitions are usually very good.
David’s samling – Smaller museum with free entrance. Classical European and Islamic art.
Kronborg – AKA Hamlet’s castle. Technically outside Copenhagen but you can easily take the train the whole way. I highly recommend doing one of the daily guided tours (no additional cost to the entrance fee).
Rundetårn – A fun look into the old astrology tower with a lovely view of the city. The majority of the inside is one big ramp with some narrow stairs at the end so keep that in mind if you have trouble walking.
Assistentens Kirkegård digital guided tour – If the weather is with you, you can go for a digitally guided tour in the old graveyard, located in a park in the middle of the city. Here’s a link for the app.
Other nice parks in case it's not raining the whole time (Danes love going for a walk, what can I say) include the Botanical Garden, Frederiksberg Have (where you can peek into the elephant enclosure in the zoo) and Kongens Have.
To shop
Vintage shopping: There’s a bunch of good quality vintage stores on Studiestræde and Larsbjørnsensstræde. Also worth a mention is Audrey Vintage on Hyskenstræde, run by a woman who handpicks all the items from all around Europe.
Strøget is the place for high street shopping but I definitely recommend having a look around the inner city’s side streets and down Frederiksborggade (check out the home goods store Maduro here) over the lakes to Nørrebro where you’ll also find some more offbeat stores and great bars and restaurants.
The largest bookstore is Arnold Busck on Købmagergade for books in both Danish and English. Fiolstræde close by has the independent book café Brøg that I highly recommend both for books and for a quick cake + coffee. On Fiolstræde you’ll also find some used bookstores with a variety of options and other smaller shops and cafés.

Copenhagen, a 3.5-hour drive from Herning, known as the city of bikes. Strolling down Nyhavn, where Freddie would spoil you, showering you with love and small gifts. Enjoying the sunshine and taking a kanalrundfart (boat sail in the canals). You'd stay at either Nyhavn 71, a luxurious yet cosy hotel right on the harbour of Nyhavn, or Copenhagen Island. Perhaps even D’Angleterre if it's a special anniversary (located at the centre of Kongens Nytorv / King’s New Harbour).
Indulging in wine, champagne, and Danish beer (Carlsberg) on sunny days, but also embracing rainy days. Freddie would give you his coat when you're freezing, always eager to protect you. Walking down Strøget, and occasionally exploring the side streets for a cosier, less touristy experience. Navigating the bustling bike lanes, with Freddie trying to shield you from the traffic.
Relishing in coffee shops, shopping at Illum and Magasin, and leisurely strolls through Tivoli. Capturing silly photos together, sharing loads of kisses, and holding hands. Passing by the Queen's castle and the Marble Church, taking photos by the water's edge. Biking around the city, Freddie sharing his cherished childhood stories of growing up in Denmark.
Watching sunsets by the water, enjoying evening walks, and listening to live music by the harbour. Sharing desserts and giggling at Freddie's cheesy jokes and compliments. The romantic and intense moments culminating in intimate closeness.
Throughout it all, Freddie exudes love and care, creating an atmosphere where love seems to fill the air.

Hi!
I will be traveling to Stockholm and Copenhagen in a few weeks and I remember you once gave another anon some recommendations, but I can’t find the post. And I was wondering if you could recommend me some places to visit or thing to do there.
Thank you so much!
Hi! I can try and find it tomorrow and reblog it for you too.
A huge recommendation is that August is our Pride Month. Most events and stuff are around August 12th-20th but worth checking out if you’re here for that week - and the parade on the Saturday.
If you’re here later in august, the Danish women’s league begins on the 25th and there’s a few clubs around Copenhagen. Feel free to ask if you want more info on that :)
Other than that here’s a few
Inner CPH:
Glyptoteket (Free on Tuesdays)
Statens Museum for Kunst (our national gallery)
Canal tour
Free walking tours
Nyhavn
Amalienborg
Kongens have + Rosenborg slot
Søerne
Christiansborg tower (you can book a free ticket online or just show up. Such nice views of the city)
Tivoli gardens, even just to walk around in. On Fridays they have “free” concerts there if you purchase the entrance. (This park inspired Walt Disney to create Disneyland)
Take a ferry bus!
If the weather is nice (probs not) you can swim in the canals too - I recommend Islands Brygge for this
If you want to look at football shirts (also woso) Unisport on Strøget is the best. (they even have Melly and Frido pictures there)
General Copenhagen:
Bakken (World’s oldest amusement park with a free entrance) + Dyrehaven
Frederiksborg Castle
Helsingør + Kronborg (the ship museum there is also very nice)
Roskilde
Amager beach
Take a daytrip to Helsingborg (by Helsingør the ferry is 90kr return) or Malmö
As tempting as it is, I wouldn’t recommended biking around unless you’re super confident on a bike it’s brutal but if you do 100% wear a helmet!

Arriving in Copenhagen for the first time in more than 11 years was such a magical feeling. It was emotional and felt like coming home. When I landed in the airport (Lufthavn!!!) even though it looked soooo different (great updates!!!) it just felt familiar. I was able to navigate the metro with the ease of someone who once lived there and I headed to my hotel. I definitely took the public transit for granted when I was there and now after living in Chicago I can’t believe how amazing it was. So clean and quick. There were literally trains like every 2 minutes. And the metro in Copenhagen are conductor-less. I always thought it was a wild thing to be controlled by a humanless vehicle.
Finally I arrived at my hotel which was truly the CUTEST. I did my research on where to stay (aka looked up some website online) but could not have picked a better place or location. It was right by rådhuspladsen (city hall) and strøget!!!!
Once I put my stuff in my room, I did a quick change and headed out to see my favorite city!!! I literally was walking around with the brightest smile on my face and headed straight to my favorite cafe, Paludan which is this precious cafe/library. I ordered the breakfast platter and was literally blown away by how delicious it was.
After some refueling, I had the pleasure of leisurely strolling and trying to get reacquainted with the city. It was so nice to just have no agenda and take it all in.
I suddenly found myself at the Ruundetarn (The Round Tower) , I place where I had gone many times in 2012 and immediately knew I had to go up. It was so awesome to see the view and I was blessed with a stunning blue sky.
I came down and did more of my favorite activity (shopping and strolling the stroget) and just felt like I was living a dream. I was so energized by the city and excitement, that I wasn't until later when my Oura ring finally reconnected again, I realized that I was running on 2 hours of sleep.
