"The mixture, which was at first of a reddish hue... changed to a dark purple, which faded again more slowly to a watery green." —The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Was anyone going to tell me, a person who didn't attend English-speaking high school and didn't have to read "Strange case of dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde", that what was going on WASN'T two ppl living in one head????
I was getting around reading the book bc it a classic, but I was procrastinating bc I THOUGHT I knew the plot. But recently I was made aware by the Internet that apparently Jekyll and Hyde are "the same person" as in IT'S THE SAME DUDE CHANGING HOW HIS FLESH LOOKS SO HE CAN INDULGE IN SOCIALLY-FROWNED-UP-ON ACTIVITIES
I thought I couldn't get this book spoiled to me any more, but here I am. Absolutely mind-blown that this ISN'T a split personality situation. Pop culture has lied to me (and I'm not surprised)

I think we need one of those popular read-along blogs to tackle The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the same way that's been done for Dracula and Moby-Dick. The number of folks around here who appear to be under the impression that reading a queer subtext into Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a subversion rather than being straightforwardly material to the plot is frankly embarrassing, and I'm assuming this is because nobody's actually read the damn thing.

anyway if dracula daily made you realize how great the book dracula is, please read jekyll and hyde, it's also extremely good. and the audiobook narrated by richard armitage is EXCELLENT.

henry jekyll being depicted as a "shy" "goody two shoes" "wants to save the world of all evil" kind of scientist in most adaptations (even my favourites i cannot escape)
what he really was like: wild when he was younger (utterson's words) flighty, insane, unsuccessful in his many experiments (lanyons words) and absolutely selfish and repressed (the last chapter speaks for itself)
and the book is so rich and full of wonderful humour like stevenson is so clever this should definitely be more explored and despite getting disappointed so many times i yearn for a faithful adaptation

A gothic literature hyperfixation has possessed me so I made this
(This took way longer to make than it reasonably should have)
