Lawton claims that "the use of ad blockers" violates the platform's terms of service, adding that "advertising supports a diverse ecosystem of creators around the world and allows billions of people to access their favorite content on YouTube."

In case you didn't know, Peacock is a streaming service of the US television network NBC, similar to Netflix.

I have the book, but I haven't read it yet. Due to that I currently reading Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky. I admit that I didn't expected that the adapation of Karen M McManus' adaptation of her debut novel "One of Us is Lying" will be aired on Netflix. It is originally aired on Peacock, but I don't know why reason (or reason) why it will be released on Netflix. Maybe Peacok and Netflix had/have a/an (agreement/contract) to release the series for international audience that Peacock is not yet available in other countries.

The show is renewed for second season.

Netflix tests pre-roll video ‘previews’ that are personalized to your interests

Netflix regularly experiments with new ways to introduce viewers to its own original programming, including through recommendations, trailers, and other featured selections on its homepage. The latest experiment, underway now, is the use of pre-roll advertisements that play before the show you’re about to watch. These are being used to promote Netflix series or movies that are live or coming soon, which Netflix thinks you might like.

The video previews are 30-seconds in length, and can be skipped by fast-forwarding (though there’s not an obvious “skip preview” button available). According to testers, the ads have been spotted on the web and select TV platforms, like Roku and game consoles.

The ads’ existence was first detailed by Cord Cutters News, following multiple reports on Reddit.

Netflix confirmed to TechCrunch that this is an A/B test of personalized video recommendations, one of hundreds of tests it conducts throughout the year.

Sling TV rolls out a better DVR with an option to protect recordings, record from Fox

Live TV streaming service Sling TV is today rolling out an improved DVR feature, while also making the option to record TV shows available on more devices and channels. The DVR is one of the key selling points for Sling TV, given the increased competition in the live TV space from newcomers like YouTube TV, Hulu (which recently added live TV), and AT&T’s DirecTV Now.

According to Sling, it responded to customer feedback requests by launching a handful of the most asked for DVR features, including the ability to protect recordings from deletion. While that has long since been a feature found on traditional hardware-based DVRs, cloud DVRs provided by streaming services have not offered the same option.

For example, Sony’s PlayStation Vue service only saves shows for up to 28 days after they air, so there’s no way to permanently keep a favorite movie or show around.

Pandora’s on-demand music service finally arrives

Pandora’s long-awaited alternative to Spotify has arrived today. The company this morning announced the debut of a new paid tier to its streaming service called Pandora Premium, which offers a combination of radio-like listening as well as the option to search and play any track and create your own playlists. Priced competitively with the other on-demand music services on the market, the new service is $9.99 per month.

The launch follows the arrival of other expanded offerings from Pandora last year, as the music streaming market shifted to favor on-demand services that expose you to new music through personalized recommendations – like Apple Music and Spotify both do. Music discovery was an area where Pandora had earlier succeeded, as its radio service would play other, similar songs based off the artist or track you initially played.

Hulu’s new live TV service scores A&E’s channels, but not Viacom

Hulu’s forthcoming live TV streaming service is starting to shape up. Today, the company announced it scored a deal with A&E Networks, which will bring six more channels to the core package, including A&E, History, Lifetime, LMN, FYI, and Viceland. The deal follows others Hulu has made with CBS, 21st Century Fox, and Disney which, combined, add 40 networks to its service, including broadcast networks CBS, ABC, and Fox.
