You're so mature and seems to be really calm and centered, so I want to ask, how to deal with criticism / hate towards your favorite shows / actors in fandom spaces? I'm all new to BL fandom so it has been hard to navigate. I feel the urge to defend them but at the same time I understand that everyone's preferences are different and some criticisms are valid. Even how they feel about it is valid too and if I come in and be like "actually 🤓", it would be weird. I know ideally, we should let each others be but I still feel sad a bit. Like the other day, I watched the Suntiny trailer and although it's not my type and I probably won't watch it, it still looks interesting and new to the genre. I came to the tag on Tumblr and the first thing I saw is someone said they regretted having eyes? Idk, I would appreciate some advices on how to deal with this on my own (because it's probably a me problem). Thank you 🥺

I had this mutual I ended up kind of stuck with who was just so relentlessly negative.

Like, she'd create side blogs to pick fights (I'm fairly sure with HERSELF to make herself feel important) and be like "Everyone defend me, they said my favorite actor's hair looked bad in this picture!"

And just, like, that was a 45 year old woman. Acting like a 6 year old.

You're not getting any awards for defending anything. No one gives you a sticker, nothing is monetized, nothing seriously matters. Tumblr is beyond the age where actors might have profiles even.

So because of that experience with that person, I took a relentlessly positive approach. I like what I like. If I don't like something, I don't reblog it. If I see a take that is a "Hell no", I don't engage with it. If I get an ask about headcanons I don't agree with, I'll politely disagree if I feel like it, but always let people think of things the way they want to.

If someone spreads hate in a tag, I block them. Tags are fun spaces for people to enjoy stuff, don't fill it with garbage. If I don't like something or have a take I think fans of that thing wouldn't like, I either don't post at all or don't tag the fandom.

Your best friend is the block button, your 2nd best friend is the "Delete" button on asks if they're spreading negativity (like shitting on actors or shows or whatnot).

The key to having the best experience on tumblr imaginable is to be the kind of blog you'd want to follow. Blog for yourself, and do it so that YOU have fun and YOU are enjoying things. If people don't agree with how you're doing you, they can block you just as easily as you can block them.

It isn't worth getting the heartrate up, just have fun with it, and you'll naturally find yourself attracting like-minded people. Nerd calls to nerd. Seriously, just be the blog you'd love to follow, and everything is good!

People respond HARD to just having fun, having interesting chats, enjoying things and yet also respectfully setting aside things or takes you don't agree with. Tumblr genuinely does respond the strongest to just being nice and having fun.
