new mix! i filmed this one on my rooftop and a few friends came over to dance in the background. this is, btw, my favorite mix i've ever made. like, feeling very "...my masterpiece..." about it. it's a sunset mood and i insisted on filming it during sunset, so there was only one chance to get it right. i think i did :)

Big Sonic Heaven

I made this mix CD 20 years ago in 2005. I'm from Detroit and when I was in high school (1998-2002), I used to listen to the Big Sonic Heaven radio program on 96.3FM hosted by Darren Revell on Sunday nights at like midnight and do my homework. It was a very formative experience for my taste in music that continues to this day.

It's also worth noting that I had posted this playlist on ArtOfTheMix and was contacted by a woman named Nina Shimizu who lives in Canada. She wanted me to make a copy of it for her and she would send me a mix. Well, I made it and sent it off, and she sent me a mix of Japanese shoegazer, which I cherished (and still cherish to this day). Recently, say in 2024, I searched for her on Instagram and probably found her. It was an Asian woman about my age living in Canada who mentioned being interested in dream pop and that kind of music. I messaged her and she said that it was probably her indeed, although she didn't remember. And she didn't seem very interested in continuing to chat, so I said thanks. Anyway, here's one of my oldest mixes that I still have. Many of the songs I discovered on the program; a few are personal contributions inspired by the sound.
